Starting point is 00:00:00 Life Uncut podcast acknowledges the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders, past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today. This episode is recorded on Gadigal land of the Aurora Nation. Hi guys, and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. I'm Laura. I'm Brittany.
Starting point is 00:00:27 I'm Mitch. And this is our radio show, The Pickup, and we had such a big show this week because we had superstar singer Meghan Trainor on the show. Yeah, she was so cute. She was, but also this is, so on the radio show, we're only able to share like a snippet of that interview. So we only were able to share 10 minutes, but this is the extended version of that interview.
Starting point is 00:00:46 So if you heard some of it live, these are all the bits that you missed out on hearing. I love her. When do you come across a superstar like that of her level? Like the hits that she's had, the streams that she's had, that talks about the stuff she talks about like so unfiltered yeah she's also the type of person i feel like a lot of celebrities feel intimidating in the way that they come across there's like a little bit of garden guardedness there when you're talking to them yeah whereas like she is so open
Starting point is 00:01:11 there is nothing that is off the table and even in the way that she shares like from everything from her relationships to like you know her sex life it's the type of stuff that we would talk about on the podcast. Or just even how she owns, like, work, quote unquote, that she's had done. Like, she's like, just got these new teeth, bought these teeth in Turkey, like that kind of stuff. I'm like, good on you for saying I wasn't born with these teeth.
Starting point is 00:01:32 Didn't come out of the womb with these. She's not trying to be anyone else other than who she is. But, like, in real life, like, I know we had the joke, like, oh, Mitch, you always talk about being friends with her. But genuinely in a room with her, like, she's so amazing. But she came into the radio station and she was so nice to me. But then she found management and was like, you're onto something with Mitch.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Like, to Kyle Sanderlands because she was on Australian Idol with him she's like mitch is good like you gotta look after him he's a good egg and obviously her word speaks volumes to those kinds of people so and she doesn't have to do that you know i might not have ever seen her again she's just i don't know there's a real nice real genuine energy about it yeah so weird that she did that no yeah like where did she get that information no idea one person there's also something incredible when someone is so successful how they can like bring people into their fold and how like she has such a power to raise people up especially doing that for you, Mitch. Like you said, it speaks volumes to the bosses and to the powers that be, but it's
Starting point is 00:02:24 not something that she has to do. On the show, you'll hear me asking the girls one of the biggest questions I've ever asked you. My sister, Becky, who you heard on the show a couple of weeks ago with her MS journey, she's pregnant, having a baby, baby shower. And it made me realize that, you know, I don't have a biological clock, but I'm almost 30. I've got to start thinking about those things. And I had a question for you too, and you'll hear it in the show. Yeah. And also we unpacked, I thought this was so interesting. So there's this trend that's happening on TikTok at the moment and I don't know whether it's deemed as a trend but it's something that I have seen increasingly and it is people who are outing their cheating partners
Starting point is 00:02:55 on TikTok they're getting loads of engagement for it but the question is is is that okay like can if you get cheated on can you expose the story around the cheating expose your ex-partner on TikTok for what they've done or should some things be private and it's coming from the girl who speaks about everything publicly on a podcast yeah but also coming from the three people that have also all been cheated on and had public platforms and also didn't do it, you know? Yeah. But we could have, but we all chose not to.
Starting point is 00:03:21 We've spoken about our stories around cheating 100%, but we've never, ever outed the person or outed the specific details around the cheating. In the way that the TikTok trend is kind of celebrating, right? Yeah, we don't add links, like swipe up to their profile, this is a cheater. We've never done that. We should because it's like they're cheaters.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Now, Mitch, you're usually the one on this show who brings the TikTok trends because you're on TikTok a lot. I'm Gen Z, I'm young, I'm you for you. You're on the cusp. Okay. We've spoken about that. I'm not on TikTok, but I do enjoy a little bit of like a lurk. Like I like sitting, I like being on there and seeing what people are doing,
Starting point is 00:03:53 but I don't post actively on there. No, Laura's one of those people that goes, did you see this trend? It's called the Harlem Shake because she's on Reels on Instagram and she gets it three years later. That's me. I don't even look on TikTok. Laura's like, do you want to do the ice bucket challenge this morning, guys? Is anyone planking still?
Starting point is 00:04:05 Because I'm all about it. Okay, no. Maybe this isn't a new thing, but it's something that I came across on the weekend and I was really shocked by how prolific it is Because, like, as I was flicking, it was like I was seeing more and more people who were doing this certain type of trend. Now, I'm not entirely sure if it's a trend,
Starting point is 00:04:21 but I wanted to get your take on this. So recently you guys might have seen there was a TikTok creator. Her name was Risa Tisa. Was that her real name? Risa Tisa. I think it's her TikTok name. She did a mini series and it was called Who the F Did I Marry? Oh, the whole world was across this.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Britt, you showed me this. This was massive. Yeah, this had like 37 million views across several videos. I think like 38 now. I'm sure it's going up. Anyways, have a listen. As we sit here, it's going up by millions. Have a listen to this.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Here is part one of who the f*** did I marry? So I met my ex-husband around March 4th of 2020. We met on Facebook dating site and we also matched on Hinge. By the way, you will notice in this story, I called it the United Nations of Red Flags. It is so many red flags that, I mean, you would have thought I was colorblind because I ignored all of them. Hey, guys, it's now hit 50 million, by the way, since we played that audio clip. Just giving you live updates.
Starting point is 00:05:24 That's how I roll here. Okay, so the reason why Tisa Risa went so viral. The reason why Tisa Risa. Sorry. I hate to say it. An hour ago it was Risa Tisa. Now it's Tisa Risa. Then Risa Tisa reason that Tisa Risa is.
Starting point is 00:05:37 The reason why it went viral is because she was outing her cheating husband. now this has set a precedent across TikTok where it seems like more people are using the platform to talk about and to share like quite controversial stories about how their partners have cheated on them they're gaining huge engagement for it and they're creating little mini series now my question to you guys is and we've all unfortunately all three of us have been in situations in past relationships where we've been cheated on do you think it is okay to use your social media platform to out your cheating partner it's a tough one I mean I never ever have and I obviously have I guess one of the biggest platforms not to sound like say that in a big
Starting point is 00:06:19 headed way but like we have our podcast Laura which has a lot of listeners millions and millions then we have a national radio show like I could annihilate someone and I had someone that had like a double life cheated on me for years and I never ever outed that person and I did start the podcast based off that actually my podcast success is based off the fact that he cheated on me but I never outed him by name any other details and I think that's for me I don't I don't see the point I think some things are better left for you to deal with and move on like some things are private but also like from that's the kind of person that I am right like even though they've done the wrong thing by me i don't get off on bringing someone else down and doing this huge pile on because
Starting point is 00:07:05 what's going to happen people are going to go and hate on that person like what's the point for me i find it better and more healing to forget about it move on myself and not drag it on for myself yeah i think though you've got to look long term because my issue with it is imagine you post these tiktoks right that you're watching laura and are getting millions of views and then a year passes you enter a new relationship you're dating someone that you really like and then they go oh i'm going to do a little little search on this person that i'm dating and then all of a sudden yeah they stalk you they scroll back and they see you outing a cheating ex talking bad about an ex to me if that was me and i was with someone new it made you red yeah because then you're like oh are they going to
Starting point is 00:07:39 do that to me when i cheat on them no that's not what i mean but no it's just more that vindictive yeah it doesn't it doesn't look but also i agree with you brick completely like i don't want to be that person but also there's a part of me that kind of goes well for so long if people have been cheated on and there's no retribution. Like you don't, no one wins in that situation. You get cheated on, you have to move forward and you have to just get over it. And I feel like some of these TikTok creators, they're kind of getting their own revenge in doing this. And also by getting their revenge, they're also getting huge platforms off the back of it. So it's kind of, I think it's an interesting tactic and it is kind of changing the way we talk about cheating a little bit.
Starting point is 00:08:15 But in terms of like, quote, get away with it, what I did was make sure that everyone that mattered in our lives knew like they knew the reason his people knew the reason his like work colleagues and his family and everyone knew what he did and everyone in my family knew but i don't need a hundred thousand strangers to know that that does nothing for me you know what i did i when i found out that i was being cheated on um i went through and found all their instagrams there's a bunch of them and i sent them all an individual voice note oh my god mitch and then blocked them every single one yeah because i'm a radio presenter i wanted them to know the voice because they might not know don't have the following of britney huckley so i might not
Starting point is 00:08:47 I know their voice from the pick up. So I genuinely send them all voice notes and then block them all. But that's the same thing, right? You're letting them know that you know and then you're cutting them from your life and moving on. It's not public. That's just what makes me feel good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Yeah. I don't know. I find it a really interesting space and I do think, you know, we live in a world now where people share everything online and we share so much of our personal lives and this is just a whole new added layer that people are exposing on their TikToks and it does beg the question, when do we keep anything for ourselves? It's for followers.
Starting point is 00:09:16 We don't. Yeah. Anyway, Reefer Teefer, if you want to follow them on socials. Tee-sa-ree-sa. Tee-sa-ree-sa. Mee-fa-bo-bee-fa. Hey, last week on the show, if you missed it, Laura, you were telling this. I mean, it's a very cringe story.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Do we need to bring it back up? Yeah, Britt and I were talking. We want to bring it back up. Yeah, 100%. It deserves some more airtime. If you missed it, this is what Laura had to say. No, no, we're going to play it. So yesterday we were on a photo shoot and I get to be the creative director of these
Starting point is 00:09:37 shoots and the model comes in and she's usually really animated, but she was a bit flat. And I was like, oh, you know, we all have these days. so we get in there and we've done a few different looks and a few different shots and i was like oh god she's just not we're not quite there she's not quite getting it so i was like okay you know what i'll do i'll call out different expressions for her to do yeah so i was like okay honey imagine that your gorgeous boyfriend is about to propose and you know but you're trying to keep the secret great and then she bursts out crying he had broken up with her the day before yeah i feel like i need to defend myself it well i didn't know i didn't intentionally set out to
Starting point is 00:10:14 make a model cry has she reached out to you since and said all good we're back together she's suing i wouldn't surprise no she's not i do think that they've gotten back together but i did royally put my foot in it well i had a friend like i saw a friend for lunch this weekend and they're like i heard you on the pickup the other day and it reminded me my mom owns a cafe they have this cafe family business right and it was like gets flat out on weekends so they had this big line of customers like lining up to go into the cafe um and you know how when you go to get food in today's day and age you line up there's kind of like to the side of the cash register there's all the uber eats bags oh yeah uber eats drivers can run up grab the food get back on their bike and
Starting point is 00:10:49 deliver it so they're serving in peak hour this man like cuts to the front of the line and goes right at the front and goes hi how are you and she goes yeah good thanks and gives the uber eats food to him to take back to his moped and he goes no i'm a customer i'd like to buy some food oh i feel like that happens all the time she just thought he was an uber eats driver based on his demeanor. Someone got in my car before thinking I was an Uber driver. They just opened the car and got in. But looking at you, I wouldn't get in a car, get in your lovely car
Starting point is 00:11:17 and be like, oh, this is an Uber. I think that person might have had a few wine. Do you know, my friend was actually telling me this last night. Literally just thought about it right now. I have a friend that owns a business and he's in a relationship with a woman also that
Starting point is 00:11:33 he employs. So she was already working there, then they got into a relationship, but they were like we just want to keep this private because you know you're my employee and I don't think it's right so let's just keep it very professional at work we can date on the outside um but because no one knows what happened is one of the other staff members was bitching to her about the boss and it's her partner and she couldn't say anything so she had to let it happen that she went and told him and now there's all these like reprimanding it's wild that happens to me when I get in ubers and like they don't have this radio station on
Starting point is 00:12:02 like oh I hate that radio station I go you've got no idea no one ever says they hate this radio Hey, do you know what my mum said once? I just remembered. Did you have memory pills or something this morning? I have. Things just hit me. My mum, one time, she always puts her foot in it, but she works in a retail store and this lady came in that only had one eye.
Starting point is 00:12:22 Well, I don't know how she lost it. She didn't ask, but my mum was talking to her about a sale that was on and the lady had said to her, oh, so how much does it come down to? And my mum was like, oh, I think it's only $15 off. And she's like, the lady's like, oh, that's not very much. Mom's like, well, it's better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick. That's what my mom said to the lady with one eye. Oh, and she had one eye.
Starting point is 00:12:41 She had one eye. She could have lost it with a blunt stick. Who knows? These sorts of things, though, like this whole concept of putting your foot in it. Everybody has had a situation where they've put their foot in it. We had so many people come through on the pickup, on our socials, writing in their stories, and we had calls in the day as well. I even had a friend who handed someone who was homeless some money only to find out that
Starting point is 00:12:59 they weren't homeless. She was like, here, get yourself some lunch. And the person was like, why? That kind of fashion is really in the grunge look. It's not funny. All right, Maddie, hello. When did you put your foot in it? Hello.
Starting point is 00:13:09 I put my foot in it at my sister's baby shower. Oh, what did you do? We were writing down name suggestions, like the ones from A to Z, and someone called out a name, and I went, oh, poor kid, and then the lady next to me said, that's my son's name. No. I need to know what was the name. His name was Wally.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Like, where's Wally? Wally. Where's Wally? Wally is a very cute little kid name, but I feel like a grown man being called Wally is a bit much. I'd probably say the same thing, you know, because in my head I'd be like, the likelihood of anyone in this room having a kid called Wally is very small. I'd take the gamble too.
Starting point is 00:13:48 I'd take the gamble. I'd be like, yeah, screw Wally. When the juices work around. Yeah, 100%. How do you get out of that? When you were like, when she said, that's my kid's name. Well, the worst part is, like, I knew her previously, so I know her kid's names and I still went ahead and sent them.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Oh, no. So she thinks you've just been a mole. Oh, yeah, I forgot. Like, it suits him so well. You're like, I forgot. It's still terrible. If you name one of your kids Wally, Laura, I'd be. Because you like those kind of old-timey names.
Starting point is 00:14:17 Well, I think Wally's cute. I don't mind. I don't hate Wally, but I would feel weird calling, like, a 40-year-old man Wally. You'd be calling him Walsh. Your surname is Johnson, so Wally Johnson just sounds like a penis that doesn't work. My last name's Byrne, so Wally Byrne sounds like something
Starting point is 00:14:29 you need a cream for. Wally Byrne Johnson? Wally Byrne Johnson? I want to come over and lolly burn Johnson I have what I think could be the biggest question I've ever asked you two
Starting point is 00:14:40 as my co-host and two of my best friends in the world you have been teasing this all day like all day you've been saying that you have the biggest thing
Starting point is 00:14:46 that you've ever had that you need to pose to us and now I'm worried I feel like I've already told you a hundred times we're not having a menage a trois I've asked and there was that one night
Starting point is 00:14:54 at that Christmas party that it almost happened we got close and kicked myself every time I went home early should have had that final margarita anyway
Starting point is 00:15:00 no I will ask you in a second it comes off the back of my beautiful sister becky who we had on the show last week she's got diagnosed with ms in the last 12 months she had her first miscarriage she's pregnant like she's had a rough truck she had a rough truck oh and she had her baby shower this weekend she's just the first kid in my family to have a kid of her own so it's a big monumental yeah so we're all there and now everyone brings their babies and i'm holding all the babies like i love babies so i'm holding them and the question everyone asks me is oh my god you were so good with kids do you reckon you're going to have your own and it's one of those questions that you think like oh yes i
Starting point is 00:15:32 want to have kids at some point but everyone asks me do you want to have your own do you want to have your own and i'm logistically it's a little bit harder for you mitch you don't have all the parts that's my question this is where my question comes from because i've got 50 of the parts i'm probably 65 i'm doing quite well um and i thought to myself wait i do want kids but i'd never actually done the mental gymnastics of working out how i'm going to do it as someone physical gymnastics either well i'm not going to be able to do the physical gymnastics because i'm gay I'm in a relationship with a man, and when it comes to the point in my life of wanting to have kids, I'm going to have to either adopt,
Starting point is 00:16:05 I'm going to have to do surrogacy, I'm going to have to do egg retrieval, get an egg donation. You could foster. There's so many kids in foster care at the moment who need homes. Oh, I've thought about it. I could foster. But I sat down after I had a cake, and I was Googling, and, you know, it costs.
Starting point is 00:16:19 This is the same. You know this, Britt. You've gone through IVF. But it costs, if I wanted to have a surrogate and get an egg retrieval and my sperm, it would cost upwards of $100,000 for one child for me to have. And I'm sitting here trying to save up for a house deposit and I've got to save up for an egg deposit. Well, not necessarily.
Starting point is 00:16:34 The main part of your cost would be surrogacy, which in Australia you can't pay for surrogacy. Like you can only pay for surrogacy in another country. You have to find somebody to carry your baby here as a gift. Yes. So remember that question I was going to ask? You can't ask that. You want us to carry your baby?
Starting point is 00:16:52 Or half each? You want to sleep with us? Oh, I was going to ask you. To save money? Yeah. You tired ass? I was going to, yeah, maybe. I just want to float the idea out of the two of you,
Starting point is 00:17:06 would either of you consider surrogacy or just throw me an egg? Surrogacy or an egg are two very different questions. Well, Laura, you're fertile as all hell, aren't you? You see, my kids are cute. Like you'd be, yeah, you'd be lucky to get one of those kids. Yeah, I would. Would I give you an egg or do surrogacy? Look, I'm going to put it on the table now.
Starting point is 00:17:24 People who do go through the surrogacy journey are so altruistic and kind and generous and pregnancy, I don't enjoy the pregnancy phase. So doing nine months of just out of the pure kindness of my heart, it's going to be a no for me for the surrogacy part. For the surrogacy part now. You'd give him an egg? Maybe, but my eggs might be a bit cooked by the time you want them. No, it's all right.
Starting point is 00:17:46 It'll be in the next five to eight years. Because you told me off air that it was a hard no. I'm 38. I'm 38 now. You don't want a 42-year-old egg. Is it the retrieval, the IVF, that you don't like? Because we could just have, we could, listen, I could cook a nice roast. Get a nice wine.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Get me a glass of rosé. I've got a real nice koala mattress. Start with a slow dance. Yeah, yeah, let me tell you, you won't. It's a Michael Bublé. Mitch, I already have eggs on ice. Just defrost one. No, you've got, do you have embryos or eggs?
Starting point is 00:18:11 Both. I've got them all. I've got the whole kit kaboodle. You want a baby? I've got a baby. You want an egg? I've got an egg. Wait, your eggs are on ice.
Starting point is 00:18:18 I have eggs. I have just my eggs on ice and I have baby embryos on ice. And I could inseminate it with my sperm. But that means it's our child. Can we call the kid the pick-up? No. Too far? Get some sort of sponsorship?
Starting point is 00:18:31 I could have twins pick it up. Huggies is going to sponsor this show. Like everyone, they're going to come for us with a baby pick-up. Are you being genuinely serious that you would potentially? Do you know that if we called a baby by both of our names, it would be bitch? What? Mitch and Brit.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Oh, yeah. Sorry, it was my bitch. It would be the little bitch baby. Britt, would you give an egg to Mitch if he needed one? But is this a hypothetical or are you genuinely asking? I seriously had the, it was like a moment of existential dread at this baby shower when I thought all these straight couples just wham, bam, thank you, ma'am, have a kid if they're lucky
Starting point is 00:19:03 and then I have to go through this rigmarole. So you're the first two I've ever asked, so it's all good if you say no. I probably, to be honest, like it's a big question. I probably would give you an egg. But it's something that you have to, it's not just me, right? Like I feel like it's a question that I would also have to ask my partner, Ben, because it's still a big decision. And then there's so many things you have to decide between you and me.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Am I not going to be involved at all and it's just going to be you two and it's like a set and forget? Are you going to tell the child? Like it's actually so much more complicated than, hey, just like defrost one of my eggs. We could actually reach out to Chemist Warehouse and see if they do it in one of the stores. With a syringe.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Yeah, with a turkey baster. We just make it a real sort of DIY job, make it a promotion. Would you ever think about the other way around? Would you ever think like maybe one of your sisters and have Steve, like, I mean, might not be Steven, but your partner, it could be your partner's sperm. So that way like you could do it that way. Yes.
Starting point is 00:19:54 Have you posed the question to your sisters? 100%. Yeah, my sisters have said they would. They don't want to carry it, but they'd offer an egg. But you would want to reproduce that hair, right? Your hairline. Like it would be a travesty for that not to be. I've spoken to Madame Tussauds and they're working on technology
Starting point is 00:20:07 to replicate this, to be a lace front style wig option. Hey, if you're tuning in and your name is also, But Alexa, you are a rare gem because a study today has come out to say that ever since Amazon released the Alexa in 2013, the name essentially died. There's this graph that's going viral. You can see from 1980 onwards, there's roughly 2,000, almost to the mid-2000s, 2001, it peaks at 6,000 people in America named Alexa. And then in 2013, when it dies, when the Amazon's released, the name, dead, no more Alexas. Plummet. I feel sorry for people who are named Alexa.
Starting point is 00:20:43 Imagine walking into a room or just being in an office doing some work and someone's like, hey, Alexa. And you're like, yep, not talking to me. You have to live with that for the rest of your life. And everyone hates Alexa too. Alexa doesn't. They don't hate it. Siri is better than Alexa in my opinion.
Starting point is 00:20:54 So like Siri would be kind of cool because it's Apple and it's chic. But Alexa is. But what about Suri Cruise, Tom Cruise's kid? That's just like Siri. Siri, Suri. I mean, it's still a bit different. It sounds like, hey, Siri. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:21:07 I don't have an Alexa in my life. Do you have an Alexa? I have an Alexa in my life. Like no, a person or a robot? Both. I was like, did you turn your lights on when you come home from work? No, I have both. I have both.
Starting point is 00:21:17 But it's funny how something can ruin something for you. Like I used to love the name. This is a little bit different, Mitch. Sorry, bear with me. But I used to love the name Lana. Yeah. Oh, no. And then Too Hot to Handle came out, which is like that show that just took off.
Starting point is 00:21:31 And the little robot that owns that whole show name is Lana, which is anal backwards. That's why the show did it. I honestly, I was just about to say, have a think about what that word is backwards. And I know Alana and she once said to me, a very easy way of remembering this is imagine spelling it backwards and then you'll get it. My name that I think has been ruined. And I would say that anyone who's named this name across the country would agree, Karen.
Starting point is 00:21:56 And I feel sorry for all the Karens out there who aren't in fact Karens. But now they are like the base, they're ground zero of an ongoing meme that they can never escape from. I went to school with a Stormy and in high school, she was so cool. Imagine having the name Stormy It's X-Men Ever since the Trump scandal with Stormy Daniels It's not great
Starting point is 00:22:15 So I really feel for Stormy That killed her name That's also Kylie Jenner's kid's name Stormy Which makes it cool again I don't think so Naomi backwards is I'm own That's ruined it for everyone now
Starting point is 00:22:30 I think this is very different to the Amazon situation You two are playing hangman over here Oh god here we go Ben backwards is Neb Then in French, that's poo-poo. I've got one. It's not a baby name. I moan, Laurie.
Starting point is 00:22:41 You're insane. I moan. Okay, that's all I can think of. I moan. I've got one, but it's not a baby name. Neither is Karen or I moan. It's a dog name, isn't it? No, but when COVID happened, like the whole pandemic,
Starting point is 00:22:55 shares in Corona, like because it's coronavirus, shares in Corona the beer like plummeted. I think they lost like half their stocks because COVID ruined Corona. Where is this going? We really got off track. Like now we're talking about beer. When names ruin things for people, but I've just gone a bit haywire. I would say that most people would sympathize with like their ex's name.
Starting point is 00:23:16 So like, you know, for me, any of my ex's names, those names have been ruined for me now. So every time I hear the name, I'm like, oh, reminds me of my ex-boyfriend. You're also talking to someone whose name is a condiment. Like my middle name is Mayo. Yeah, that's odd. You're Mayo Hockley. Yeah, Mayo is my name.
Starting point is 00:23:31 And it hasn't, to be fair, has not ruined my name. It's one of my favorite things. Ever since you became famous, Mayo shares plummeted. Yeah, and I was also – No one's buying Helton's. I'm not famous. Oh, well, you guys can make jokes, and all of a sudden I say something that's confusion city.
Starting point is 00:23:45 Well, I mean, make a funny one, Mitch. Yeah, be funnier. Oh, wait, Lauren's called us. Lauren, has this happened to you? Is there a name in your life that you're not on to anymore? Yeah, look, so I was with my ex-partner for over 10 years, and we were engaged to be married. So, of course, when you're engaged and you're going to be married,
Starting point is 00:24:00 you start thinking about babies and all these things, and we had a name chosen out. We both loved the name Charlie for a girl. Yep. Charlie's great. And then, yeah, it's a gorgeous name. Well, I used to think that until he left me for a Charlie. Oh.
Starting point is 00:24:16 If that wasn't so bad, it'd be funny. Put him in the bin. Oh, absolute dog of a thing. Yeah. I agree. And his name is Ruin too, whatever that was. That's my album. Lauren.
Starting point is 00:24:27 Absolutely. His name's Josh. Oh, yeah, we hate him. We're losers. Can't trust a Josh. And what's Josh backwards? Shod. Wow.
Starting point is 00:24:34 Wow. He's a real Asajj. It's not just any standard Friday, ladies and gentlemen. It is, of course, timeless release day. Meghan Trainor, we adore her, has a brand new album that is out now. I mean, that's Mother, but this is, oh, it's to the moon. It's on the new album. We love her, right, ladies?
Starting point is 00:24:54 We love her. It's so damn good. I'm so excited. I mean, I feel like we got a little bit of a special listen, didn't we? We got a special session. We got to listen to it before it was released. you've absolutely killed it what was your inspo Megan's here hello thank you I'm so glad you like that song um my inspo for that song is uh my my son Riley he's three years old now he loves
Starting point is 00:25:18 the moon and rocket ships and outer space and astronauts and I decorated his whole room and he has this rug that says to the moon on it and we always say I love you to the moon in the back and so in my list of titles i had to the moon and i was like dude we gotta write like a love song that's like my love's gonna take you to the moon like i already had that all laid out and then um all my songs all my hit songs recently are all like major chords and like happy so for to the moon we want it to be like moody and vibey and i was like she needs to be hot like the girl of your dreams like spooky and then when we get to the chorus i wanted to flip on their face and punch him in the gut and take him to the gym.
Starting point is 00:26:00 And I want to be like, my love, my love, you know, and we did it. I love how you describe this. You're like, it's a song for my children, but I want the beat to punch you in the gut. It's got to still be a bit of both. How do you feel? Yeah, my mom's like, this is like a sexy love song. Stop saying like you're going to fire your kid.
Starting point is 00:26:18 I was like, what? Riley's going to love it when he's 20. But also you becoming a mom, Have you found that the things that you're writing about, the way in which you're approaching your music, have you found that it's changed now that you're in a different phase of life? It's so much better.
Starting point is 00:26:33 Oh, my God. They make me work harder. They inspire me to push myself and be better overall as a human. Like, I don't know if you noticed, but I've, like, never looked better. I've never been more confident. We noticed. We all noticed.
Starting point is 00:26:48 You're hot. I did buy these teeth are bought. um and i love them they're great they're funny well spent yeah good my it's turkey they're turkey teeth megan if ever i've seen them they're gorgeous thank you so much um so that helps but yeah i my kids um inspired me to like get healthier and um learn how to work out correctly and like be better with my album artwork and every every detail of my life i just want to be better for them to show them like how much i love them and how like they could do anything if they believe enough and they work hard enough um yeah what was the question just about how your music's changed
Starting point is 00:27:28 I think it's amazing because so many people who are gonna have kids you worry about how it's gonna impact your your career so many women worry about how having children is gonna stop them from being able to achieve things so seeing you absolutely smash it being a mom of two kids is it's an inspiration not just for your children but for other women out there who are able to look on and realize you know what life still exists beyond having children oh yeah I always tell people I don't I don't I don't know if this is an experience for every mama out there but for me I hope to give hope because they literally they like ignited my life like they started a fire in me that I never had and I was like my life started when those kids came out like my husband
Starting point is 00:28:09 is everything he's my whole world he is great but when the kids came it was like life is on you know and i i told my husband i look at him all the time and i go when we're all cuddling i'm like oh i'm peaking you know like oh this is the happiest i'll ever be you know you guys are such a tight family unit i actually met daryl before i met you megan it was backstage at australian idol i was looking for a bathroom i need to go do a wee and i was walking through the halls and then i see daryl in the hallway playing with little riley and i and they just looked like a normal dad and son playing which they are of course but you know the famous and the blue tick and the money and everything makes you in the grammy that is in the house you think you know different family
Starting point is 00:28:49 he was just carrying it around yeah i thought where's the grammy but no it's actually really beautiful to see that family unit and be so public in the in the you know image of the world it's really great i love seeing it we're very normal we're very regular and um i think my family like keeps us all very humble my brothers are like what you think you're special you know like they they keep me humble and they i think we'll stay grounded something that i love is speaking of your brother but you've got your podcast working on it and it's pretty unfiltered like it's pretty hectic there's not a lot that that you don't talk about what's that decision like for you because I feel like a lot of people in the public eye a lot of people in Hollywood are really protective of
Starting point is 00:29:29 their image and don't want to give too much away and I feel like you're the opposite is there anything that you think about oh shouldn't have said that um there's like there's only one thing that i don't love that keeps getting sent around um i i am unfiltered i don't know how to lie i freak out and i'm like i gotta tell the truth like even about like my poop schedule and everything like anal fissures at all i i just feel better mitch talks about his anal fissures too i wrote a book about my pregnancy and i'm like here's the real deal you know like here's everything um just because when i hear people talk about their stuff and i can relate to it i'm like i'm not weird i'm not alone you know like i'm very normal and growing up learning that like i i
Starting point is 00:30:12 didn't realize everyone all pooped in public all the time i was like that's insane like i would love to do that make it laura laura on this show i'm not joking every single week we do a daily show she brings a story about pooing herself at a public toilet tell me now exactly the story you told on the pickup the other week about the public toilet incident because you'll relate i don't talk about necessarily proving myself but like i think when you have kids you spend a lot of like an unreasonable amount of time in public toilets right i've got a four-year-old a three-year-old so anytime we go anywhere they're like mom i need to go to the toilet so you know you would normally try and avoid them what did you just can't what did you use i got into a public toilet and then
Starting point is 00:30:48 i realized that there was no toilet paper there was nothing at all and there was no one coming to help me and then i rummaged through my bag why would anyone come to help you no normally you can ask the person who's in the stall next to you or you can get someone to like pass you some paper underneath the door yeah and that didn't happen but I rummaged around in my little handbag and I found that I had a pair of uh spare socks for my kids that were in my handbag and that worked a treat and it was very very soft and it was very effective the end so was it was this a pee or poo oh it was a number two a pee I would have just shook off so look when we talk about unfiltered things we are not against sharing what are your thoughts on that what are your thoughts
Starting point is 00:31:25 on that i just yeah we don't shame i'm proud of you you you solved that crime and you figured it out in that moment crime is the right word there i think but being being so open on my podcast it's great the one thing i'm like oh please stop writing articles about that is that i talked about um sexy time with my hubby and that i would like be uncomfortable afterwards and i would i said he's a big boy and i keep seeing megan like megan walked weird after because your husband's a big boy and i'm like please stop writing that article i think he would love that that's being sent around like i'm sure he doesn't have a problem with it like and he is big boy but it turns out that i actually had something going on with my hoo-ha called um that but also my vestibula was
Starting point is 00:32:17 because of all the hormones of pregnancy it was like not infected but like it's all wrong to where if it feels like glass yeah like it's all bright red and I have to like put on testosterone cream it's a whole nightmare I'm like nobody talks about it but every girl suffers from this and like back in the day doctors were like just drink up honey like deal with it and now they're like oh it's science and your chemicals are all messed up down there because of your hormones from pregnancy and I was like oh I have to tell someone you know because I know I thought I was just like super small and uncomfortable yeah but also I mean how do you deal with that because it's it's one thing when you think you want to share something because it is relatable and you
Starting point is 00:33:03 know other women are experiencing it and going through it and we have the same thing happen to us on our podcast life on cut we'll talk about things that we think are completely normal and fine and then a media outlet will pick up a sentence of it they'll run so many articles and then you're left feeling as though you're a bit shameful that you said it or you wish you'd said it in a different way is like how do you manage those situations when you see the headlines written and you're like fuck I just wish this would go away um uh one was really bad and I was pregnant and I for the first time ever I think the alcoholic like gene that runs my family I was like oh I get what they say when they're like I want to drink till I can't feel anymore
Starting point is 00:33:43 and i was like but i'm pregnant like i was really sad really depressed i was really hard but um other than that like i don't mind when people are running stories about like she's such a weirdo that she has two toilets next to each other i'm like oh you don't know what love is you know like i can brush off that stuff they're like he poops in there or she like always goes to the bathroom and her husband's there i'm like i'm sorry you've never had love so that sucks you know um the rest are good if they like yeah that's that's pretty much all I guess my the only criticism they could say that I'm too open and like whatever have at it yeah and I guess it makes you more it makes you stronger as well you get to a point where you're like you kind of you have to get a bit
Starting point is 00:34:25 tough about it I just don't read it that's how I deal with it I just don't open the articles yeah I have to try to read less I just did a tiktok about how like I had an anal fissure and I cured it myself with dragon fruit instead of Miralax every day. Like my doctors were like, you just have to be a Miralax person. And I was like, I don't want to drink this every day. Like there's got to be a good way. And I started eating dragon fruit and my stools got softer like with a fruit. And I was like, period.
Starting point is 00:34:54 I fixed it myself. And then I'm a doctor. Every time it was like, this is the most helpful thing I have had on my For You page in so long. And then one girl was like, that's a lot of info we didn't need. And I was like, you're welcome. Yeah, but wouldn't you be much rather this, like, version of a celebrity than, like, look at the J-Lo's. That's what's going on with J-Lo at the moment.
Starting point is 00:35:12 She's so tight and tight and everything, you know, and the Schiaparelli. And then you look at Meghan and it's like, oh, my God, you're so real and we can relate to these things. I think that would give that to your success. I never felt like a celebrity. You definitely are a celebrity. I hate to break it to you, but you're a celebrity. With great teeth.
Starting point is 00:35:27 Can you just put this to bed for us because this is something that we talk about all the time. Our lovely Mitch Turi here, he is always name-dropping you and he's saying how tight you are and you're best friends and you're hanging out all the time and, like, and if she was here, you know, she'd be over for dinner tonight. Like, he's always talking like that. I've not said that.
Starting point is 00:35:45 Can you? Don't be shy now, Mitch. Can you just tell us? We would. If we lived in the same city, we would hang out all the time. You besties. So it's real. I do.
Starting point is 00:35:57 I love him. And, like, we meet a lot of, we do a lot. I sit here for hours and I do so many interviews. and sometimes we're like god that guy had no idea what he was doing or um and it's rare when we remember someone and everyone on my team you know what i'm saying like a lot there's a lot of people but like it's rare when we all perk up and go mitch is coming you know like that was a genuine thing that i've noticed a lot of people say we feel the same way about him to be honest it's like i've died guys i'm still here it's like this is like an in memoriam at the oscars when
Starting point is 00:36:36 someone passes we do miss it we would say horrible things about your memorial we gotta say them to your face i want to be roasted speaking of um when you do interviews and sometimes you have those moments where you're like that person has no idea what they're talking about you recently did the podcast episode with bobby bobby isn't that's her name isn't it and she i mean i know i know that that is her um that's her shtick right is to pretend like she doesn't know what's going on and if anyone isn't familiar with this podcast it's kind of satirical where she interviews celebrities but pretty much just spends the entire time offending them um have you been in a situation or even in that where you are being interviewed by someone and you're like they literally know
Starting point is 00:37:15 nothing about me they don't listen to my music and this is just awkward for everyone I I was so nervous for that interview because I knew how like what it is and I knew I was like what if she's like that awkward in person but she came over and was like a delight and like hung out with my babies and is that because she has kids she's like so good with kids and i was like who's this bob you know and then um she like is quirky and cute when the cameras are off too but then we started the interview and i started panicking and i was like oh no and then i because she's like so good at talking and when the cameras are off and then we started the interview and she was like i don't know any of your music i was like i forgot like what her shtick is and i was like
Starting point is 00:38:01 how could you not know a single song no we're the same age like you know my song i was like and i was like i just spent all day watching every episode that you've ever made like to why don't you know my stuff and then she was like that's the show and i was like oh yeah oh yeah i forgot it that's so funny i find it so great i love it wait speaking of shows before we let you go you were here in australia um doing australian idol with our very own kyle sandilands on the same network as us um but we loved you you left and then i'm reading rumors i'm like oh trying to google to see if you'd come back but then there's like rumors like oh maybe you'll do american idol because katie perry's just announced she's leaving is that something you'd consider
Starting point is 00:38:39 doing or are you like going home i just performed on there and i it's my dying wish it is my it is I'm on my deathbed. What do I want to be a judge on American Idol? I like I just love that show so much. And I have done so many other shows like it, like Australian Idol. And I'm like, I know what I'm doing, coach. Put me in. And like I was there recently as a mentor and I was like, I'm on set, you know, like I it is just too cool for me. And I got really attached to the these adorable superstars that are so talented. and then i performed on the show and i was like i belong here and i know katie is like about to
Starting point is 00:39:22 leave the show and do probably just like a break and i will fill in you know what i'm saying and i will give her spot back we will send this straight to the execs just so you know we're on the campaign trail with you don't worry we vouch for you are you everywhere i go i look at the cameras on the interviews i go hi i would do anything for that job you know i'm being a trainer i want that job It would be so good. It would be amazing. We adore you. I want to drive home to work and drive home.
Starting point is 00:39:47 You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Yeah, live that nine-to-five life. Well, you are a bloody superstar. Timeless is out now. Latest album from Meghan Trainor. Obviously, you can get this on it, which we love. This is To The Moon, everyone.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Oh. Those are the streams. Meghan, we love you. Thanks for coming on the show. I love you. I'll remember you forever. I promise. We adore you.
Starting point is 00:40:07 We love you. Thanks, Megan. Bye. We'll be right back.
