Life Uncut podcast acknowledges the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia
and their connections to land, sea and community.
We pay our respect to their elders, past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
This episode is recorded on Gadigal land of the Aurora Nation.
Hi guys, and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut.
I'm Laura.
I'm Brittany.
I'm Mitch.
I'm also engaged.
That is how we're going to start every single episode
for the rest of the year, at least until Brittany gets married
and then it will be like, I am a wife.
No.
Brittany Seegers.
That's another year.
Yeah, so it's two more years of me talking about this.
No, for another week or two maybe, but like it's still fresh
because I've sat on this for a week.
I haven't told anyone.
I haven't been able to talk about it until now.
Okay, so you guys would have heard on Thursday's episode,
Britt Surprising Me on Ask Uncut, but what you haven't heard yet
and what is in this show today is Britt Surprising Mitch.
and it took you a while to realise what was going on.
Can I just say, this whole thing has taken me a while
to even clock on to what day we're doing what
because obviously you've got the two shows.
You've got the pick-up and then you've got the Life Uncut, the podcast.
So we announced it on the pick-up and then the podcast
but then I was told separately, the Laura being told.
Yeah, it was the whole thing.
Logistically, this was the hardest thing I've ever done.
Does anyone even know?
Is it real?
Am I engaged?
I've seen the ring.
It's very real.
Look at it.
I'm blinded.
I can't see.
Can I say though, so yeah, we'll play the moment that you surprised me.
It was very cute.
but in the like we get a run sheet of what we're talking about on the show every day for the pickup
so i get in and on the sheet it goes brit tattoo story and i had to fake feel it for you yeah that
was the fake content we were talking about because we were actually talking about the engagement so
i sit down prepare the show i'm like oh cool yeah brit's new tattoo let's talk about that and you
didn't even question it did you not did you what did you think i just had a back piece like what
did you think happened i just thought you got like an infinity sign or like something real basic palm
palm tree palm tree hamilton island or a kangaroo yeah a kangaroo what about those people who get
tattoos like for their engagement ring they don't wear an engagement they just get it tattooed onto
their finger like a little ring apparently that ben has told me that that's a bit of a football
thing as well because you can't wear it when you're at when you're doing a sport so then you
get it tattooed to yourself i like it i'm kind of there for it brit would you ever get have you seen
um on your ring finger obviously the left ring finger you get your partner's initial like under
the nail like in red ink or white ink so it's very subtle ben got my initial on he already got
that tattooed luckily it's also his initial so sorry if there's ever a divorce okay laura thanks
let me just sit in my romance for a minute i just realized as you were saying it i was like what he
got a b but it's ben well yes we talked about that at the time he got the b and he's like i'm getting
this for you and i said let's be real it makes sense if we break up anyway but now it makes more
sense it makes more sense well look i mean this i feel like for the next couple of days at least
obviously you guys know that on tuesday we're going to do like a big unpack of brit's engagement
and everything else and this being our radio show it's just the best bits what happened on radio
this week so obviously brit is surprising mitch that was a huge thing you'll hear that um we also
had something that was very sentimental to me and i just want to say a very big thank you to you guys
um around everyone who has contacted me after the episode that we did talking about neil my stepdad
who's um currently going through palliative care for prostate cancer i don't even know how to
describe it because you can't really be currently going through palliative care he's in palliative
care. And we, as you guys know, on the pod, we spoke about it and we've really been trying to
drive this message home around speaking to your loved ones, speaking to your dads, to your uncles,
to anyone who you're very, very close with in that age group around getting their PSA checked
and getting their prostate checked because it could absolutely save their lives. So many of
you have contacted us through the radio show and through Life Uncut as well. And we had Maddie on
the show this week just to to talk about the experience she had with her dad how she had
the conversation with him and i yeah it meant so much to me it was really really really nice
also beautiful it's also sorry mitch it's also just nice to know that you know sometimes we
talk about picking things up with your feet and sometimes we talk about things that are actually
going to save your life so it's a whole spectrum here and you definitely made a difference to a
lot of people it's the highs and the lows we do it all on that are we keeping the picking the feet
up stuff yeah okay we've also picked up some things with our feet on this show look it's a real
it's a real doozy many emotions oh so yeah i got yelled out by a tradie i think that's in the show
as well you got into a fight i got into a fight with the tradie i was on the job site and i
squared up oh laura hasn't heard this because she had gastro oh you were yeah it's a great show
let's get into it okay so i think i've cost a tradie out there and if you're listening to this
and this was you give us a call here at the pickup we will uh compensate you for every dollar that
No, we're not.
We don't have enough money.
I think I need to, mate, because I was out on a hot girl walk.
You know I walk every day.
Yeah.
And this was last week.
And a torrential downpour of rain came out of nowhere.
And it was one of those rainstorms that it's blue skies and then within 20 seconds, grey,
the wind changes, torrential rain.
I think I saw you put a wet t-shirt competition photo up.
Was that the same storm?
Yeah, I put it on my Insta story because I got drenched in a second.
I was in a white t-shirt.
You could see my little pepperoni nipples coming out of the shirt.
But it was one of those flash flood events that the rain is so heavy that the gutters aren't prepared to take all the water.
So they start rushing up onto the driveways.
The road is pouring with water.
These pellets, you could hear the pellets of rain.
They were like drops of paint.
They were thick rain clouds.
I'm like, oh, my God.
This is horrific.
I had my AirPods in and I was walking down this residential street and it was so bad.
I kind of had to like stop and go, what am I going to do?
I'm getting drenched.
I walk past his house.
It's on the corner.
And there are all these tradies.
and they're working on the front of the house
and they're all standing in the driveway.
Driveway garage door is open.
So they're in the garage, sheltered from the rain.
Okay.
And they're looking out.
And you know when you see someone on the street,
no one else is out because no one's dumb enough to be getting this wet.
They kind of look at me and he's like, like, God, terrible day to walk.
And I'm like, I know, I'm an idiot.
Like, what do I do?
Yeah.
Like just banter.
Banter.
Friendly stranger banter.
Yeah, this tradie.
He had high V's on.
He was bone dry.
And he kind of looked at me and was like signaled at the garage.
I could barely hear him.
He's like, oh, you need to come under something like this.
You need to come over here.
I was pulling his hands like, look at this garage.
You need to be like this.
And I'm like, what a legend.
He's saying, come inside to his house.
I can stay dry because it was that bad.
And you, being Mitch True, love to go into a strange man's house.
Totally.
I'm like, sign me right up.
So what I do is I go, this is lovely.
It is so bad.
So I just walk onto the driveway, take my first step in, and he screams,
yells at me, goes, what are you doing?
I step in the driveway of freshly wet concrete they've just laid.
Oh, I was hoping you weren't going to say that.
Fresh brand new driveway.
So like just laid the, but wouldn't the.
Moments before, moments before.
And he goes, what the hell are you doing?
And I'm like, you said to come in.
He's like, no, I said you need shelter.
You need something like this.
I wasn't saying come in.
He's like, mate, we just laid this.
And I was like, I'm so sorry.
And you know me, I've got my orthopedic shoes because I roll inwards.
I've got pronation.
So I've got these big hoka black orthopedic shoes.
So it looks like Neil Armstrong walking on the moon.
So then did you do a runner?
No, I couldn't.
I felt so bad.
I like take my foot off I walk backwards but my left foot then steps in it again it kind of pivots
so it squishes it and he's like mate I'm so sorry and he's like you know it's raining we're gonna
have to relay it anyway just go I'm like can I get your details can I pay for it he's like we're
gonna have to just go go as if we all saw that time you accidentally bought a stranger lunch
and then you asked them to transfer it back I get you everyone this is a really special one for me
so if you're listening to the show a couple of weeks ago um I shared that my stepdad Neil is
currently going through palliative care. And that's because he was diagnosed with prostate
cancer. It has been, it's been eight years now since he was diagnosed and it's been such a
journey. And we're at the tail end of that. This is a discussion we had on the show a couple of
weeks back. By the time we found out about it as a family, it was already stage four prostate cancer
and he's young, he's 65. The reason why I wanted to talk about this is because if us speaking about
it and saying like speak to your dads about getting his prostate checked speak to your husband about
it if that saves one family from going through what our family is going through then this
conversation is worthwhile and it was so nice of you to share that Laura because I imagine it's not
easy but it's such an important message at the same time well I mean for us like I didn't just
want to share this to update you on what's happening in our household like in our family
tragedies um but the reason why I wanted to talk about this is because very often we don't speak
about um we don't speak about hard topics with our dads especially especially when it comes to
things about prostate cancer like I would I would put money on it that very few people sitting in
their cars or wherever you're listening to this right now have ever called up their dad and said
hey dad when did you last have your PSA tested when did you last have your prostate checked
because it's kind of awkward it's weird and that has been the most important thing to me is getting
this message out that let's stop making it awkward. Let's try and have these conversations
with our dads because it could absolutely save their life. And it would mean that, you know,
if it stops one family from being in the situation that we currently are with my stepdad, then it
will have made all of the difference. And it was really vulnerable to have that conversation on air
a couple of weeks back, but we have received such an outpouring from you guys, from so many
listeners who said that they went home that evening, they called their dads or they sent
them a text um and i'm so grateful to everybody who has done that and i hope that we can keep
spreading the word i did that i text my dad i text mark cheery i'm like dad have you done it
and he was great he's like no it's a blood test now and i'm like i don't think it is and he went
called his doctor and he had another checkup like all because of the conversation yeah my dad was
the same big tones was like yes possum every two years i've done it and i was like wow what a
relief a good dad you know but also we had the full spectrum we had some people messaging saying
that asked their dads their dads had never been to go and get a test done we had some people who
whose dads were a bit like oh yeah weird conversation but you know thanks sweetheart
thanks darlin for thinking of me like i just went a couple of weeks ago um but one of those um one
of those people one of those listeners who did have that conversation with their dad was maddie
and she gave us a call maddie welcome to the pickup hey mads hey guys how are you going we're
good so you had this conversation with your dad after hearing laws talking about her experience
yeah yeah so i heard law talking about it and i was like oh i better give dad a call after work
so he gave me a buzz and was just like hey heard this really sad story on the radio but like just
making sure you've had it checked and hey i don't know he's a typical man in his 60s and he was like
oh i don't want to talk about that like you know keep your nose out of it kind of thing and i was
like come on and my mom good old mom piped up and she was like well actually i'm pretty sure
you got that blood test form from the doctor like two months ago
and I'm pretty sure it's still sitting on the kitchen counter.
Yeah, classic dad move.
And I was like, well, that's like it's such a typical dad thing.
And I was like, well, come on then, dad.
And I actually had like my own blood test.
I didn't get my iron checked, nothing too exciting.
And I was like, come on, tomorrow morning I'm going to pick you up.
We'll go get our blood test done together and then we can go get Greggie
because they had to do like a fasting one.
Oh, a daddy-daughter date for blood tests.
Yeah, so it was actually really nice.
I mean, the blood test, but it's a blood test.
But, yeah, it was good and it forced him to do it.
He got his results.
They were all good, which is obviously great news.
But it's like, what good is it sitting on the kitchen counter?
I know.
And, Maddie, when you wrote that in, like, I'm so grateful for you sharing that
because I would dare say that there's so many men out there who have received
their reminder and, like, you know, oh, it's just, it's not going to be me,
so it's not that important.
And then they put it, you know, on the back burner and then weeks turn
into months, months turn into years.
and that very much is the situation with my stepdad and I love that now it's something that
you're able to talk about with your dad and it doesn't have to be a big deal it's just a blood
test yeah but you know there's another I feel like there's another message in this and I don't even
know if you realized you just said it but you said hey have you had it done he was like oh not sure
don't want to talk about it and then your mom still wasn't even positive that that's what the
blood test was she's like oh I think you have a referral for that like the fact that it is just
not front and center on anyone's minds is something we also need to realize like we need to be so
proactive with our own health let alone like you shouldn't have to look after someone else but the
fact that your mum was like oh that's right like i think that was something to do with prostate
cancer yeah it's also men not up to the women in your life to remind you to get your blood test
done you know you've got to be an advocate for your own health go get the test i know but you
know what statistically it's just not the case we know that most men avoid going to the doctors and
And so, and I really, I cannot overstress this enough.
If you have a dad who you love, if you've got a husband
and they're in that age range, like please go home
and have the conversation with them because, yeah,
like I would hate for there to be another family
in the situation that we're in.
And statistically there will be and there are currently.
So please speak to your dads, speak to your husbands,
speak to your uncles.
Let's make this a normal conversation.
Well said.
We love you all.
Speak up to Neil too.
listen there's a lady out there in in australia that has deeply offended me and she doesn't even
know she's done it so if you're listening to this you bumped into me at the beautician this week
i'm coming for you because shocking i was gonna say does it count if someone offends you but
doesn't know well that's maybe that's the conundrum maybe you can help me here because i went to um
get a facial at the beautician i go to all the time at tw skin love them when i pay but they're
amazing i love what a modern man you are how you are always like out of the three of us brick goes
the most you go the second most and i wish i went at least once in a while mitch is also a gay man
so he takes a lot of pride in his i have to actually don't even want to what are you getting
done i get a lot done i get um i get microdermabrasion i get full facials i got high
laser i had a laser done like i love it i get it all done so i was practically glowing i walked
in i had an hour session amazing can't fault them and i'm sitting out um in the reception area at
the checkout desk and my phone won't pay past with Apple Pay.
Like there was a technical error.
And the beautician, I don't have the money in my account.
And the beautician goes, oh, this happens from time to time.
I'm going to go out the back and get the other dongle.
We'll reboot it.
Just like take a seat, chill out.
So I'm taking a seat at the entry to the beautician and another lady walks in and she sits down
next to me.
And you know, when you're at the beautician and you get so excited that you're getting
a treatment done, it's very rare that working people can go in and get a facial.
so we're both sitting there and she's like oh my god like you know i'm so excited with this i
haven't had one in ages you're the complete opposite to me i don't i don't talk to people
in waiting rooms you're sitting there making having small talk oh i love it chitty chatty
oh i bring it she started talking to me so i was like i'll talk back to her i'm not gonna be rude
i'm waiting to pay i'm almost done glowing i look like a light bulb and then she's like um have you
been here before i'm like yeah i've been here a couple times she's like you were gonna love it
and like honey looking at you you look like you need this you look exhausted you were gonna come
out feeling incredible and you'd already had it and i just like i just got the whole face was
like bright because every time you leave a beautician your face is always bright red you
look like you've been slapped like that's what i thought i thought i was glowing and i didn't have
the heart to tell her and i went oh yeah busy week and then the lady goes fix the dongle i pay pass
and i just leave so this lady is just sitting there going what she's gone he should go back
in and have it done again because that clearly didn't work so bad beforehand it reminds me of
like when I used to go through because I do a lot of skincare like Laura said and so after I've had
mine done and I also feel glowy and beautiful and if I've had my lashes done maybe I'm like
I'm going sans makeup not a skerrick of makeup because I'm owning this I'm I look amazing and
then without doubt every time someone will say to me oh you look sick you look unwell you have
you been okay are you okay every time I don't wear makeup someone's like are you all right and I'm
like yes I'm living my dream right now but every single time I don't wear makeup and I think I'm
killing it someone brings me down a notch i hate people it's so i just don't comment on people's
looks no if it's good unless it's a compliment if we're talking about beautician things for me
it's not so much like the other people who go to beauticians i think beauticians themselves give
people insecurities you'll be laying there you would have had something else done like maybe
you've just gotten a laser done and then they'll look at you and they'll go oh you know next time
you come in we're gonna do something about your crow's feet yes and then you go home and you're
Like, I didn't even know I had crow feet.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
No, Google, what is crow feet?
Every time you leave the beautician, you have a new insecurity,
and then that just, like, forges you through to the next time
you go to the beautician.
Kills you.
Speaking of, I was getting laser hair removal.
On the downstairs.
Yeah, the region.
Legs on the downstairs.
Were you?
Yeah, just the downstairs.
Then when I rolled over to do the back of my legs,
she goes, oh, are we doing the...
And I was like, what can you see that made you say that right now?
Oh, yeah, you did say the Hollywood, the hole of the...
Oh, oh, oh, oh.
The backside.
What do you call that?
Bath plug.
Everyone's got hair down there, Britt.
Don't worry about it.
Yeah, but I was like, wait a –
if I wasn't insecure about that moment right then, I am now.
But that means – well, you've got a taut butt.
You're doing Pilates.
That means that there would have been visible hair poking out.
At least she didn't ask you if you wanted a labiectomy.
Okay, let's just – that's enough.
Has it happened to you?
No, of course not.
Okay, sorry, but the way you said that –
I made it sound like you –
when Laura went in to get a crow's feet done,
they're like, labiectomy.
after two kids i wouldn't be surprised or i got a haircut yeah like have you
considered a labiectomy oh that's so funny hey
today very excited because i got engaged and by i i'm talking about britney britney seagrass
you can call me very soon the biggest most beautiful day of my life happened and my
beautiful partner ben got on one day and asked me to marry him and i've had to keep it to myself
because I wanted to tell you guys, Laura and Mitch,
I see you more than anyone and I wanted to share the biggest day
of my life with you in person.
Okay, the most humiliating part of this is that it happened
on the weekend.
Britt wanted to tell us on Monday on the show.
Yeah.
But I got gastro and I had to take Monday and Tuesday off.
Because I remember that in the pick-up group chat,
Britt was so pissed.
Laura's like, I'm sick.
I've got gastro.
I'm not coming in.
And Britt's like, how bad is it?
Could you come just for the show?
No, I was like, what's the frequency of poops?
I was like, I can't hold it together, guys.
No, Britt.
You were actually, considering that you had literally the biggest news that you've ever
had in our entire, our six year friendship, you took it very well that I wasn't coming
to work that day.
Get better soon, hon.
You rest up.
I've got this.
You do, you do.
But you know what?
Honestly, the way in which you surprised me, we do the podcast together, Life Uncut Podcast.
Every Monday, every Wednesday, we record the pod.
And on Wednesday morning, Britt, we were doing our normal Ask Uncut episode where we answer
listener questions.
and I can't believe that you managed to get to the end of the recording
and then you snuck it in there.
I pulled one over you, the ultimate pullover, Laura.
Have a listen.
Then in 2022, I met this amazing guy, but he lived overseas.
My friends were really concerned because long distance is never easy
and I've always had commitment issues.
But this time it felt different and I thought he was worth it.
Flash forward to now and I've never been happier.
And last week on a beautiful island, he asked me to be his wife.
You crying?
I just want to know what's a cute way to tell my friends that I'm getting married.
Spoiler, it's me.
How did you leave it to the third question?
Because you've got diarrhea.
I was going to tell you on Monday.
It took me, okay, I like looked up because I was kind of like half listening to the question
but also, I was reading, no, I was reading the next question which I had to voice and
I looked up and Britt was crying and I was like, this is it.
And then it clicked.
She looked up, she goes, why are you crying?
It took five seconds for the penny to drop and then I started crying and then by the
end of it, I was leaking from every orifice.
I was crying, I was weeing, I was, it was just, it was all happening.
Well, then you got me as well.
Yeah, because part of me felt bad for not just like getting on the phone
and telling you guys straight away, but that's not how we roll here.
I wanted to do it in person and obviously I wanted to capture it.
When you've got a radio show and that is your living,
the number on the sacred seriously, how do we record this?
But here's the moment I got you, Mitch,
which took a lot longer than I had hoped it would.
Well, I think for context, we were recording something,
but you said we need to pre-record this for the radio show
and we'll air it later on.
I'm like, okay, this will go to air.
But this was all fake.
This was never going to make it to air.
Yeah, it was fake.
I have had the best weekend of my life.
Like, I think I told you guys about Hamilton Island,
how I gatecrashed that person's wedding photo shoot.
Yeah, you did it on Monday.
You told us that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I told you all about that.
And what I didn't tell you is so many people sent me photos in about,
like, with me in the background.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And are you recording?
Yeah.
Are you recording?
What?
Are you missing something?
Are you recording this, Mitch?
Yeah.
I think you've stopped.
she's got a ring on she's engaged freddie huckley is officially off the market
you took so long to get that mitch i'm so offended okay but the thing about this
i mean we genuinely for the two of you we could not be more happy but mitch and i both had the
inkling like we both knew in our own ways that it was coming we just didn't know it was coming
last weekend and the fact that you managed to keep it to yourself for so many days like you got us so
well even though we knew we couldn't be more shocked that's because i'm a trained actor but
yes please go the thing is i knew i had the date you are not i had the date so i was talking to
ben i knew the date i knew it was the six of the six so then when it didn't happen i messaged ben
and was like i emoji what what's going on and he's like oh we had a run in we didn't we didn't get
time the trip was amazing and i was like wow we have been texting each other and we were like oh
my god he didn't do it it didn't happen it didn't happen so the fact that you managed to keep it in
yeah I mean Brit it doesn't matter how you told us we could not be more happy for you and for like
yeah we know how much you have been I don't want to say like looking for love it's such a dumb
thing to say but like as much as you've always been like the hopeless romantic you've very much
for quite a few years spoken about how it hasn't always gone your way and like this is your fairy
tale, and it's truly, Ben is
an amazing guy, and we're
so, so happy for you both. And I think, you know,
it happened when it was meant to happen.
We're celebrating
Brittany Hockley, our very own, is
engaged, baby. It's no longer
the pick-up, it's the Brittany Hockley's Getting Married
show. That's what this is.
Brittany Hockley's our fiancé!
Oh my god, I actually... What?
Never say that, and wrap, throw your...
I get you got a ring on it, but you're throwing your hands up.
That was the whitest thing you've ever done, Brittany.
Laura, I am white and I am a fiancé.
I'm just spitting facts.
Britt got engaged.
Yeah, we don't have the story.
So you surprised Laura and I.
We played that out before.
We need to hear the story.
Your beautiful fiancé, Ben, is here in studio with us.
Welcome, Benny.
Hello, guys.
Guys, I feel like we've, I don't want to say we've known.
We haven't known about when it was happening.
I knew.
I had a date.
No, but we have known it has going to be happening.
So, Britt, I don't know if you're aware of this,
But maybe two and a half months ago, Ben slid into my DMs and was like, hey, I'm going to propose to Brit and I want to talk about rings.
And being the fact that I moonlight as a jewelry designer, that's my that's my real job.
That's my other real job.
You moonlight as a radio host.
Your real job is jewelry.
So I was in the DMs with Ben trying to sort out, you know, like we're trying to give some advice around like what type of stone might work in terms of like the cut.
But also at the time, this is something you definitely don't know,
you were in the African jungle doing I'm a Celebrity,
Get Me Out of Here.
And so I had access to your Instagram because I was taking care
of it at the time.
I was worried about that actually.
Well, it's a very good thing that you had a lot of engagement rings
saved in your saved items in Instagram.
So I went back through and I screenshot every one.
And there is a theme.
She's like, you had a PowerPoint presentation of engagement.
No, I saw it too.
It was Australian Shepherd Dogs and it was engagement rings.
It was like stream of stream and stream of just engagement rings.
Like scroll and scroll and scroll.
But honestly, they were all a very similar shape.
They're all a very similar style.
And so I just sent them all to Ben.
So thank you, Britt, for doing all the due diligence
of being very thorough in exactly what you wanted.
Yeah, so Britt, isn't it?
I mean, look, you could have sent the same kind of rings,
the same shapes, but I think you saved like different shapes
and all that kind of stuff.
So I was like, she's not doing it the easy one.
You know, she's not doing it easy for me.
like it's different cuts and all that kind of stuff you had like an oval then you had like
i don't know but you know what the common theme was is that they were all massive the stone
no i did have to be fair yes i had some squares i had ovals i had different shapes yeah very
confusing for someone who doesn't know a lot about rings but that's why i reached out to you laura
because i knew you could help i knew it was it was gold you preferred um obviously i was speaking
to your to your sister sherry yeah and obviously she would help but i knew she had access to
instagram you kind of hinted stuff to me without being you know too aggressive on it i sent you
direct photos yeah i mean it happened on the weekend you guys were away in hamilton island
did you have any idea did you did you have any inkling into the lead-up of the day that it was
going to happen i genuinely didn't and now here's an exclusive the night before i said to ben i was
like something's not right and we're at dinner and I said something doesn't feel right I was like are
you okay and he was like yeah why and I was like you just I feel like you've been different and he
was then I could see him in hindsight he clocked it and he was like no just you know football season
I was very nervous I was very nervous the night before I was I was okay on the day because I
I didn't tell you what we were going to do because I thought you know if I tell you early your brain
starts ticking and working and all that kind of stuff so I thought I'll tell her last minute so
she's unprepared so we'll just go for it so i was okay on the day but the night before i couldn't
sleep we're at dinner and we're not having an argument we're having a discussion let's say
you were having an argument the night before it was it was a discussion because you felt he was
wait what about well just because i felt he was no and not not really anything probably about ping
pong ben where did you hide the ring in your luggage flying over because did you wrap it in
undies or something no i've got i had it in the box obviously your typical box but i put it in
my hand luggage to make sure it's on me at all times you know luggage gets lost and all that
kind of stuff I don't want it sailing off to you know all over the globe so I had it on me
at all times but then um you know she goes through my stuff all the time so I was like
I have a question for you how did you know that Brit was the one oh this is a great question
when did you know I don't know when but I'm I'm a person that really much really like really goes
of feelings uh like you got feeling and i just i knew the feeling was right i knew that's the
one i want to spend the rest of my time with i think we're both at an age where we're done with
all the games we're settling our relationship whatever it is the long distance and we're
trying to make it work as good as as best as we can but also i think it would give both of us a
lot of security if we knew where our future was going and i thought that was a big sign it's just
who doesn't want to spend the rest of their life with a person that makes you want to be better
who makes you laugh who's always there for you supports you in your career you know if anything
happens in my life good or bad I just want to you know run to her and tell her and and you know
share my day with her it's one of those feelings you have when you're just you're just truly happy
because of the person that she is seeing you together is beautiful you guys are such a gorgeous
couple physically and then together like you complement each other so well we're so happy for
you and also i was skeptical in the start because i do remember that and i was when you guys first
yeah i mean you just saw a beautiful man walk in and you were like yeah he'll do
i have seen brit have her heart broken throughout our friendship and that was an awful thing you
no one wants to see their friend be hurt and i genuinely want to say like ben thank you so much
for making her the happiest that she's ever been and i can't wait for you guys to get married
yay i'm so happy for you guys really i am i am the happiest i've ever been on on record all right
well they're gonna smooch so let's let's end the show and i'm gonna cry
okay there is an article that stopped me in my tracks and made me think immediately of laura
there's an american tiktoker that is going bonkers at the moment because she came to australia she
had a little visit and she has said she has crowned australia as having the strongest
feet. Oh, okay.
I get this now. In all the
world. That's so Laura. I have been wondering
where this was going. But
no, I agree. I have great
my feet are very dexterous for feet.
Yeah, and mate, you don't like waste a
chance to tell us. Every time
any story about feet comes up, you're like
have I told you that I've got monkey feet? I've de-evolved.
I'm a monkey. She goes, hey guys, do you guys know
I'm on WikiFeet? Yes, we are. I am.
Actually, I have a
WikiFeet page and like
Which is, they've been very generously rated because I have quite unattractive feet.
But on the WikiFeet page, I'm like a 4.9.
I have checked it recently.
So what's the article?
Is it muscle strength in feet?
So basically she's come here and she's just, she shook it at how strong Australian feet are.
And when I say strong, I mean like literally how thick our skin is.
So she's like, it's crazy.
Australians can walk around, bull ant nest, no worries.
Glass, doesn't matter.
Hot sand.
Hot sand, hot stones, rocks.
Because we grew up in Australia with, I mean, I hate to say it,
but we grow up with no shoes on.
We walk around to the beach all the time and we're always on rock ledges.
And I think evolution, we've got calluses, we've got thick skin,
and we're laughing.
And she cannot believe how strong Australian's feet are.
And Laura is, for as long as I've known her,
if I drop something on the ground, literally, I'll spill my water bottle.
She's like, don't get it, Brit, I'll get it.
She puts her big claws out and she picks it up with her feet.
No, mine is different.
When we talk about, like, strong feet, I have two feelings about this.
I'm very invested in the feet content. As a mom, I think you get really good at multitasking. So
if I spend all day bending down to pick up the shit that my kids drop on the floor, I would spend
all day on like my hands and knees. Instead, I just use my feet. Oh, you drop that? Cool. Pick
it up with my feet. But there's a different thing happening here. There's like there's people who
are dexterous and pick things up with their feet. And then there's people who have like a soft
underbelly of their feet. And I remember when I was dating this French guy when this is years ago,
long before being married obviously um and we'd gone we met on tinder we went down to bondi and
we were walking across the rock platform in bondi and like i i was just cruising i was walking
across the rock platform and he was like oh i have never i have never gotten the ick faster i was so
turned off this beautiful french man because of his his delicate soft feet i was like i'm done
i'm done well my fiancee is swiss and he has beautifully delicate feet yes he has he's european
and he's got beautiful feet to the point that the other and i realized why right so the other day
he was like hey babe i'm just gonna go and get a pedicure do you want to come get your nails done
oh i haven't had one of those in a while and had his like feet massaged and calloused off and i
was like this is why you've got such beautiful feet so i thought hang on let's put this to the
test i have a european in the room so i brought ben in today and then we have laura who claims
that she has the strongest feet in Australia.
I can climb up walls with them.
No, they're not that bad.
You could.
Don't test it.
No, they're just very, they look kind of like chicken feet these days.
They're so callous.
Well, we're going to do it after the break.
We're going to put this to the test.
Australian feet versus European feet.
Who has the strongest foot?
Who can pick up the most?
Who can do the most with their feet?
Wait, wait, wait.
Isn't it about like how thick the skin is, not how strong the actual.
What are we picking up?
What are we picking up?
I've segwayed.
I've got a few things for you guys to pick up.
I'm going to put it to the test.
I'm making my own worldwide competition.
Europe versus Australia.
I feel quietly confident but also grossed out a little bit.
What are we calling this?
Can we call it?
I've got a name.
The Great Foot Off.
No, I think what about The Greatest Feet.
Did you get it?
Featuring.
F-E-A-T.
Featuring Ben and Laura.
Featuring Ben and Laura who are a little toey.
I think you nailed it.
And they're quite.
Okay, we can stop now.
They're sold.
Because it's the nails.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Anyway.
This will heal the world.
All right.
Let's go to a break.
Well, we're having The Great Foot Off here at The Pick Up.
What we're going to do is put to the test who has the greatest, strongest, thickest
feet, Australia or Europe.
I mean, it really is the competition that everyone's been wanting, isn't it?
Everyone's been hanging on the edge of their seat for this one.
Australia has been voted to have the strongest feet in the world.
That's why we're doing this.
It is.
And I have my European fiancé, Ben.
Welcome to the picker.
Hello, Ben.
Welcome back.
How are you doing?
Welcome back.
You're literally our fourth co-host now.
You've been here so much.
I hope they're paying you already.
Not yet.
We'll talk about this after.
Sure.
Grace the producer's like, we're not paying you.
I pay him personally.
In euros.
So funnily enough, Laura has always told me how strong her feet are.
No, okay, I would like to clarify this because I'm starting to sound like a crazy person.
I don't talk about having, shut up, I don't talk about having strong feet.
I just say that I'm very good at picking things up off the ground with my feet.
And I like to say that that is just a part of being a multitasking mum.
But funnily enough.
Or a monkey at Taronga Zoo.
Monkey mum feet, it's the same thing.
Funnily enough, Ben has also said to me that he has super strong feet as well.
So what a perfect foot off to have Europe versus Australia to put this to bed.
Okay, what we're going to do is I've got a few different items.
Our producer Grace is going to enter the room in a moment
and she has also collected some items that you guys are going to try
and pick up and do different things with.
I would just like to point out, though, that there's a very big difference
between my like weak – I'm like I have the weakest calf muscles
and the weakest quads and you're putting me up against a professional athlete.
Glory, you're quick to backtrack.
She's like, monkey foot, monkey foot, monkey foot.
Oh, but my calves are sore.
In case I lose, this is why.
This is not an even playing field.
You've picked a normal mum and a professional competitive athlete
to go head to head.
I feel like we're the opposite.
I've got the strong legs, but I'm not sure about my toe movement.
How are your toes?
How dexterous are you?
Not great.
They're very beat up from wearing boots and stuff.
Because Ben's a professional soccer player.
They don't spread.
They're just kind of there.
So how's the grabbing nature of them?
The grabbing's not bad, but it's just a very limited movement.
All right, that's enough talky-talky.
Let's do some footy-footy.
Let's have a little foot off.
We're bringing in the first item, Producer Grace.
What is it?
All right.
Our first item, pretty easy.
It's just a standard, how many mils?
500 milliliter water bottle.
Great.
You're going to pick it up and also try to take the lid off.
Pick it up and take the lid off.
That's a bit ridiculous.
Laura's first.
Oh, she's knocked it out.
Oh, she's straight up.
Look at that.
Oh, she's done it.
Wow, that was in two seconds.
Laura picked it up.
Okay, Ben.
Ben's turn.
On the ground.
That was impressive, Laura.
Thank you.
Thank you so much, guys.
So Laura had a technique where she pushed it to the ground.
Oh, Ben's got a different technique.
He's trying to grasp it.
It's taking a bit long.
He's not succeeding.
He's already lost out in terms of time.
In three, two, one.
Nope.
Ben can't do it.
Wow.
I feel like we need a timer running here.
No, I'm timing it.
You did two seconds.
Ben did a European 12.
All right, next item, please.
Let's bring it in.
I feel bad for Ben.
Should we give him something easy like a pen?
Yeah.
Okay.
He can try a pen.
Laura, I trust you.
I don't even get the pen.
Ben, can you do a pen?
Okay.
Oh, we've got the pen.
Oh, he's done it.
He's done it.
So he can do a pen.
All right.
What's the next item, Producer Grace?
The next item's a little bit heavier.
It is the 2022 Australian Commercial Radio Awards Best Music Host.
Who's accurate is that?
Oh, that's my radio award.
Mitch literally said, is there a way we can slip in my award?
I did.
with Laura's toes.
Now, this is a couple of kilos.
This is two kilos.
She's gone straight.
Oh, bit of a slip.
It's heavy.
Get it up, girl.
It's so heavy.
My leg muscles are weak.
Oh, my God.
She's done it.
She's done it.
That's a four kilo walk.
That's really heavy.
This is heavy.
Okay, Ben.
Let's go.
That was my thigh muscles that let me down.
That's come off my desk, too.
All right, Ben's going for it.
I do want to keep that.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.
He's dropped Mitch's award.
It's okay.
What just happened?
Did it break?
He's coming up.
He's gone for the hook.
All right, he's done it, but put it down, please.
Well done.
That's my most prized possession.
We need a tiebreaker.
We need something to test it.
This is the tiebreaker here, a banana.
Benny's going to try it.
I'm going to give it to Ben first because I have no faith in him,
and then it's going to go to Laura.
Can Ben peel an Australian banana?
Let's see.
For the win, worth 1,000 toe points.
You've got to pick it up into the air.
Right up.
Oh, wow, he's in a very compromising position.
Oh, my God.
Oh!
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
What a technique.
She's peeled a banana.
No, let's give it to Laura.
No, no.
It's already peeled.
Now, can Laura get the banana into her mouth and take a bite?
Yes.
That is going to prove once and for all.
Okay.
Bananas on the ground.
She's got to eat it.
Guys, I don't want to eat this after it's been.
It's fine.
I'm not playing.
Oh, my God.
Get the banana.
I will take the rest of the peel off.
The banana is in her.
It's in her toes.
Her toe is peeling the banana.
She's got a claw.
That is unbelievable.
It's incredible.
Her hand, it looks like a lobster.
Oh, my God, it's in her mouth.
She's done it.
She's done it.
She's bloody well done it.
Laura Byrne and Ben Segrist, the toe champions.
Who am I saying?
I don't know if I'm impressed or that's actually disgusting.
That is Mitch's lunch.
Well, that was actually my post-show snack.
Guys, I just would like it to be known across Australia
that there's not many things I can't pick up with my toes.
And so I think I deserve the bragging rights
that I've been bragging about for the last couple of years.
The show The Pick Up finally found its namesake.
It's Laura's feet.
Guys, please just go, just join my WikiFeet page.
Like, I think it's the time.
Should I start an only feats page?
That's sad.
I need a bit of extra money.
You have a lot more to plug into life.
My God.
