Starting point is 00:00:00 This episode was recorded on Camaragal land. Hi guys, and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. I'm Brittany. And I'm Laura, and I'm getting shamed for how much I've eaten because it doesn't fit. That is, you are full of it. We are not shaming you for what you ate. We're shaming you because you go, I don't know why I've got such bad indigestion when I just watched you annihilate a block of chocolate, the biggest sandwich I've ever seen, and a coffee. Not shamed as in like, Laura, you ate too much. But I am constantly complaining about being pregnant. And then I constantly complain about having indigestion. And I also know that you
Starting point is 00:00:33 should just have small frequent meals. But I like to have the world's biggest sandwich and then down half a block of chocolate and a coffee. I mean, the way you eat now has changed. Like you annihilate, you inhale your food. I've never seen someone eat so quickly since you when you're pregnant. And I'm also addicted, addicted to sandwiches. I hate to say it. You're not supposed to eat ham when you're pregnant. You eat like a kilo. Shh, don't tell everyone. You said it. I don't need the motherhood judgment. No. So ham's like one of the things that they say are be careful of deli meats because they can have, you know, you can get sick from deli meats. But if you get fresh, good deli meats, I think you're all right. Don't go get it from the service station. But I've
Starting point is 00:01:11 been, I've been smashing ham sandwiches. Like it is my absolute job. So is it like you're not supposed to consume ham at any time of the pregnancy or just the start or? There's lots of rules around the things that you should and shouldn't eat or should give a wide berth to. Like you shouldn't eat oysters, you shouldn't eat alfalfa sprouts. And like the cheeses and stuff. And soft cheeses and stuff like that. And I think like I'm pretty good with most stuff, but ham's been hard, okay, guys?
Starting point is 00:01:36 Ham's been hard. What's the alfalfa sprouts? I don't know. It's like sprouts and I think it's because they're very water dense and they can also make you sick. Whatever. Sorry. No one cares if you're not pregnant.
Starting point is 00:01:46 But the food list is long. Okay. Well, this is our radio show. So this is the best of the week of the pick up. We pick out some of our highlights and we bundle up and give it to you here. Well, speaking of food, guys, I did talk about food again on the radio show this week. I got a packet of chips, which, I mean, is not that surprising now.
Starting point is 00:02:04 It's got to make it sound like I don't stop eating at the moment, doesn't it? It's just because people are tuning out. They're like, what is this show? So, guys, breaking news, I got some chips. No, I got a packet of chips and I found something in my chips that no one should find in their chips. And we asked the question, what did you find in your food? And let me tell you, I thought that getting, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:23 what could only be described as potentially a chicken schnitzel or a hash brown floating around my bag of chips was weird enough. Some of the things that were sent to us were absolutely diabolically disgusting, revolting. Yeah, it makes you never want to eat again. Yeah, so that's all coming up. Obviously you will. Enjoy.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Get some ham. The other thing you guys might have seen that tickled us in ways we probably shouldn't have, the hurdler. The hurdler that has been going viral for having a bit of a wardrobe mishap mid-run. I don't want to give too much away, but use your imagination. And still managing to finish the race in first place. Someone might have thought he was doing the pole vaulting, but no, he was a hurdler. Someone might have thought he was a photographer with a tripod, but nope, he was an athlete.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Anyway, guys, it's all coming up. Let's get into it. Every week before we start this show, it might come as a surprise to some of you, but we do sit down and talk about what we're going to talk about on it. Yeah, we prep. We prep. We throw around some headlines, we throw around some big news, things that we want to unpack and get to the bottom of.
Starting point is 00:03:21 And there was this one article that got put into the group chat by our wonderful producer, Grace, and this is the headline. Runner wins 400-metre hurdle race despite having his penis constantly fall out of his shorts. And I just thought, firstly, yes, we're going to unpack it, literally. He unpacked it. But is this where we're at? Is this it?
Starting point is 00:03:41 Is this the height of content or the bottom of content? I don't know. And we shouldn't be laughing at it. because it was a very unfortunate incident. But we're not laughing at it. Let me set this up for you guys. If you haven't seen this in news, it is taking over. Chris Robinson, so he won the 400-metre hurdle race
Starting point is 00:03:58 and he had probably the worst wardrobe malfunction that one can have. Even though his manhood fell out, he still did a time of 48.05 seconds and that time was only one-tenth, get this, one-tenth of a second slower than his personal best. It actually goes to show you, that goes to show you, remember when Kathy Freeman wore that speed suit and she debuted a speed suit and everyone was saying it doesn't make a difference. She said the importance of it like shaving seconds off. This goes to show you when this flopped out, it took a tenth of a second off. So that kind of thing is really important.
Starting point is 00:04:34 No, do you know what I think? I read that and I was like, that is an athlete. That is a man with the most, name me one other person that has the willpower or the mental stamina to go, do you know what i know this is happening right now but i'm gonna run for my life like if i'm sorry that for me i would stop i would at least slow down make an adjustment but not him he's not distracted one of my favorite parts though was the commentary around what was happening have a listen to this congratulations to chris robinson for battling a a problem that does emerge occasionally various parts of their equipment failure can make it very very awkward but very nearly a personal best with those adjustments going on constant uh manhandling going on with the left hand but uh boy
Starting point is 00:05:17 he uh just say it in front why is the commentator so breathy through the whole thing because i think he's constantly mad imagine what's going on to commentate that live knowing you've got to be so careful with like how you say it i think he was trying not to laugh it got me thinking talking about athletes. This might surprise you, but I was once an athlete. No, I know you are. I know you are. And I'm not going to impede on your story. When Britt first told me that she was like a world champion bodybuilder, I was like, you're lying. Okay. I wasn't a world champion and I wasn't a bodybuilder. I was like, where, what? No, when I was younger, I was an Australian champion bodyboarder, like the lay down version of surfing. Anyway. So I was in these big
Starting point is 00:06:02 competition ones and when there are surfing comms like there's always so many people on the beach everyone lines the beach girls unless it's like really cold water always surfing like a rash shirt top and swimmer bottoms like that's what you do this was in the day not that it's changed but like you would wear really quite small brazilian bottoms because they were tighter and usually stayed on anyway this big wave came and i tried to duck dive underneath it and when i went under it And the wave hit directly on my butt. So my butt's in the air going under. The lip of the wave hits my butt.
Starting point is 00:06:35 I go under the wave and it just rips my pants off. Dax you. Not down, gone. I am now nude with a beach. From the waist down. I'm nude with a beach full of people watching me. And I come up and I can't get back on my board. Because imagine if I start paddling back out like right up the butthole.
Starting point is 00:06:51 So I'm like trying to keep my bottom half under the water. I'm yelling out into the beach until I could communicate with someone. Some stranger, to this day I don't know, a random girl, had to take her pants off under her skirt on the beach, throw them to me out in the water, and I had to put someone else's swimming bottoms on. Britt, all I have to say to this is that if this was Chris Robinson, he would have stood up.
Starting point is 00:07:13 He would have kept going. Nothing would have stopped him because he's a real athlete. I'm sorry. You know how to duck dive? Imagine me duck diving, mooning the whole beach with my butthole straight out. More than that, I'm just imagining you getting up and surfing away because you're like, I'm not going to miss out on this, pantless from like the waist down.
Starting point is 00:07:33 I don't know, you want to know? Yes, I did win. Now, we've asked the question, guys. Give us a call. What did you find in your food? Because on the weekend, it was my daughter's sixth birthday party, right? Lots of preparation. We did it at our house, which is a terrible idea.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Don't hold birthday parties at your house. Lots of cleanup, lots of prep. Little question. Yep. Is fairy bread, does it still make an appearance at kids' birthday parties? Oh, yeah. It still is. Mate, I made half a loaf.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Wonder white, butter and sprinkles. And let me tell you, that was the only food that was on the table that got completely devoured. Of course it was. Pure sugar. Shit, that can't be shocking. No one ate the carrot sticks and hummus. There was a big fruit platter. No, but have you actually tried it as an adult?
Starting point is 00:08:19 It's terrible. It's really crunchy. Yeah, I don't like butter either. so I've had to forego the fairy bread as an adult. Shame. It's more so that sprinkles are overrated. They taste awful. Slightly sugary, not sugary enough and they're really hard
Starting point is 00:08:32 so all these little kids are just walking around just getting turnt on fairy bread. Anyway, it was the whole thing. I should have stuck to the fairy bread because I did get a couple of packets of chips. I'm a bit of a lazy mum when it comes to a birthday party. We didn't do a cake. We just had cupcakes that I was still bought.
Starting point is 00:08:46 You know, I put some candles in them. I got a few bags of chippies. I put them on the table in bowls. Kids will have a great time. You're not tradwifing. No, yeah, that's not my thing. Anyway, I opened up one of the bags of chips and it looked okay on top but then I looked a bit closer.
Starting point is 00:09:02 I was like, what is that? And I shook the bag a bit and there was this, I still don't know entirely what it was. It was about 15 centimetres long. Half a ruler. That doesn't even fit in a chip bag, does it? Yeah, about that big. Just fit it in like sideways.
Starting point is 00:09:19 It took up the entire like side length of the bag. Like it looked like a full hash brown, like a McDonald's hash brown that had been severely overcooked. But then on closer inspection, I took a moment and I was like, is that a chicken schnitzel? Is there a legit chicken schnitzel in my chip bag? Anyway, pulled it out. I'm pretty sure it was just layers upon layers of compacted chips
Starting point is 00:09:40 that had been deep fried and deep fried and deep fried. How does it get to that point? God knows. We thought it was the golden hash brown that we found. Like we'd run a prize. But that's, I was actually going to ask that. Did you look up to see if there is a competition running for, like, whoever, whatever bag finds it?
Starting point is 00:09:57 Because that's a thing. No, but have a listen to this. I can't tell if this is an entire potato, a hash brown, or a lot of chips that have gotten stuck on the conveyor belt together. Can I have a bite? Would you? You're disgusting. It's probably, like, the best bit of all the chips.
Starting point is 00:10:15 You know how, like, when they're crunchy, it's really... That's pretty good. That's so right. It's a delicacy. We got the special golden hash brown in the packet of chips. It's a delicacy, is that what you said? Matt, yeah, it's a delicacy. Matt took one for the team, my husband.
Starting point is 00:10:26 He ate, he took a big bite out of it. I think he just did it for content. No, he told me off camera that it was actually revolting. He was like, I'm worried that I ate that. Maybe it'll make me sick. At least it was something edible that was in there because there could be some weird and wonderful things that get stuck in those food bags.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Well, there have been. There have been some weird and wonderful things. We put the call out to you guys. What did you find in your food? And let me tell you, everything from band-aids to nails to, it's been disgusting. We've got Jess on the line. Jess, what did you find in your food? I was at
Starting point is 00:10:55 a cafe and my omelette came out and there was a humongous giant dragonfly just cooked smack bang in the middle of my omelette. Oh my god, they folded it in. Yeah, well, you know when your omelette comes out and it's like half folded
Starting point is 00:11:11 over, presented nicely. That just goes beyond negligence. Imagine being that person that's in there cooking and they're like, nah. Either they see it and they can't be bothered to pick it out or they're like, didn't even look. They just flipped. No, I reckon the chef knows how to do the flip right.
Starting point is 00:11:27 I reckon he just turned his head as he flipped it as it flew in, like bad timing. I hope so. What did you do, Jess? Did you send it back? Well, I did. They weren't really concerned. They offered to make me a new one and I declined.
Starting point is 00:11:40 That was it. Wow. All right. Great service. Let's not name the cafe. All right, Corinne. We've got Corinne on the line. What did you find in your food?
Starting point is 00:11:49 A family member came across a mouse frozen to the bottom of, like, frozen pizza, but it was, like, not between the plastic. Yeah, a mouse. A little mouse already sealed in a plastic part, so, like, not between the box and the plastic. So, yeah. I would never be able to eat a pizza again. I reckon what's happened is when it was being transferred,
Starting point is 00:12:09 the mouse has, like, been through, like, a hole in the box, and then it's just kind of, like, cozied in there. No, because you wouldn't die in there. He'd live forever. He just ate a whole pizza. But then it ended up back in the freezer. And so the poor mouse got snap frozen. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:12:22 Well, the nutrients are still in there then. Snap frozen like a carrot. All right. I think it's on the production line. Like the mouse happened to be on the production line. Squish, bang, in the freezer. Oh, it was. Oh.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Oh, Corinne, thank you for that. Look, there's been some real doozies. Okay, guys, just look at what you eat before you actually eat it. Be safe out there. A lot of fingernails came in. That was a real problem. No, I can't. A lot of fakies in the food.
Starting point is 00:12:44 I nearly put a fake nail once into the nut arena. You know, the nut box at like the supermarkets. The nut arena. Okay, you're talking about like at Woolworths where you can go and serve yourself the nut arena. I call it the nut arena. Yeah, it's an arena. That is like a great arena. You're going to end up in the nut arena if you're not careful.
Starting point is 00:13:02 We have a bit of a different guest on the show today. One I'm quite excited to speak about. I saw her story online and just couldn't imagine what it would be like. We're speaking to Lyndall Bubke, who is a donor-conceived woman from Brisbane, and she recently found out that she has 77 half-siblings that were also conceived by the same donor sperm. So we have Lyndall on the phone. Lyndall, welcome to the show.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Hi, Bo. Thanks for having me. How did you discover that you had 77 half-siblings? Oh, it's been a bit of a process. I did an ancestry DNA test. My husband's family are really into genealogy, and I'm like, oh, that'll be fun. What's the worst that could happen? Imagine, that'll be fun.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Did you know at that point that you had been conceived through donor sperm? Did you know that that was the case or was it all a bit of a Pandora's box? It was a bit of a Pandora's box. I'm of an age, I'm 33 and most, I was conceived in the early 90s and at the time the going rhetoric that the clinics were really impressing upon parents was go home and pretend it didn't happen. It's unkind to tell them you shouldn't tell them. they'll never be able to find their donor you know and yes that's all true but only because
Starting point is 00:14:15 they destroyed the records so it's um in a bit of a journey but these days you know people are told at the time as well there was nothing like ancestry.com so they probably weren't thinking in the future that people would be able to do their own genealogy test like that seems so sci-fi for back then i know who would have ever guessed and then so okay let's just set the scene tapping away you find out you've got 77 staff siblings how do you then connect with them because i know quite a lot of you have reached out and been in contact yeah there's like a group chat we have at the moment about 15 of us in it called cheaper by the dozen we get in touch mostly via dna testing the clinic has put a couple of us in touch with each other
Starting point is 00:14:55 but the clinic doesn't have records for all or most of us the 77 as you said is a minimum it doesn't include all of the treating doctors at Queensland Fertility Group that destroyed their records mine included so if it hadn't been the fact that I did a DNA test I wouldn't have ever been able to connect with my siblings. Imagine when you find out that there's you know potentially upwards of 100 siblings you would think okay. I estimate 250 to 350 conservatively based on how many times my donor donated. Which is wild and your brain must go to the fact of saying, okay, well, there's a high likelihood of all these people growing up in the same area. Did you just think that maybe you'd come across them in the past? Or what if you were dating them
Starting point is 00:15:36 as a teenager? Or what if your husband was related to you in some way? Did those thoughts cross your mind? Bang on the money with my biggest fears there. Thankfully, my husband had already done a DNA test. So when I got my results back, it was the first thing I was checking. Even before I looked at the 11 DNA matches, my parents had got in between the test results hitting, they told me what to expect um so the first thing I'm checking is is my husband a relative thank god he wasn't but you know I know that two of my siblings have found out they were at a party together as teenagers it's all really close to home um the chances of me knowing someone who's a sibling before I find they're a sibling is pretty high you know one of my one of my brothers is my cousin's
Starting point is 00:16:17 friend we're born 10 days apart we're probably conceived on the same day and that's quite close You could be from the same pot of sperm. Same clinic. Yeah, I think we are actually. Wow. Wow. That is crazy. How, look, I mean, and this might be a little bit personal,
Starting point is 00:16:33 but when your parents did tell you, because obviously, you know, them intervening, trying to probably get a front foot on that situation, how did you respond to that? Oh, look, it's hard. You know, I think they did the best they could with the information they had. We all agree now. My parents have been really supportive throughout this process because this isn't what they signed up for.
Starting point is 00:16:53 But now that they know this, they would have told me earlier. I always tell people who are going through donor conception, it's so important to tell your kids, have it just be part of the narrative so it's not a big shock when they find out. Well, you are also campaigning for improved regulations in the fertility clinics and creations of databases. Tell us exactly what you're hoping to achieve. Like what regulations do you think we need to have to better control this?
Starting point is 00:17:18 Yeah, so at the moment we have state-based approaches. not every state has regulation like until October in Queensland last year there was literally nothing governing it and that's why so many terrible things happened so if one state is letting the team down then the clinics can get away with and they do get away with sending the sperm interstate to their related clinics or just selling it to other clinics and using it in the different jurisdiction and that gets around the family limits and that's how you create these you know pods of hundreds sometimes thousands of siblings in Australia. It's just insane and also I mean there's been a few documentaries and stuff that have come out where it's really highlighted
Starting point is 00:17:57 this issue overseas but I don't think anyone's aware that it's something that's happened here in Australia on home soil as well. That's it and if we're using sperm that's imported from the states there's no checks and balances on how many times they've used it. Well you're gonna have a fun Christmas Lyndall with 300 people I don't know what you hope I don't know if you hope to find them all or if you're happy to just like sort of live with the 77 that you yeah you would you know it just feels funny thinking there are these people out there who share half of my DNA but I'll never know it's just a sadness we all have to wear oh well we hope you find them it's it's a remarkable story but we are rooting for you thanks both thanks Lyndall so Laura on the weekend
Starting point is 00:18:40 I tried to do what I think was a really good deed well for myself and for my sister but what I did was. I went through all my cupboards and cleaned everything out. You know when you have this like, I just had too much stuff that I've accumulated for years. I could open my wardrobe and stuff from 15 years ago would tumble out and almost suffocate me. I have seen your wardrobe Brit. And one thing like, yes, you have a lot of clothes. But the thing is, is you also don't throw anything away. So you keep all of your clothes like you have multiple wardrobes. But I think because most of it's stuff that you'll keep on rotation, right? Yes, I do. I'm a real sucker for I'm like a hoarder for clothes like some of my favorite pieces of clothing are from
Starting point is 00:19:17 15 years ago so I don't necessarily just keep them I just love them I don't fit anything from 15 years ago we're we're different we um yeah and I I kind of have a rule now because my wardrobe once upon a time was very similar but I have a rule that if I haven't worn it in a year it goes I give it away to someone or I give it to the salvos but I can't I can't keep that many clothes in my house every like I don't know six to eight months I do a clean out and I send everything to the salvos or I give it to my sister or a friend to go through if it's like good quality stuff. So I went through, I'd been going through it for probably the last four months and slowly putting things into bags because I knew my sister was going to move back from overseas. I always let
Starting point is 00:19:52 her go through and pick stuff and then I take it to a charity store. And so I'd been accumulating these bags and one was just bin, like stuff that was just so far gone. Moths have eaten it or whatever. Like I'm talking the dregs of my wardrobe. Yeah. You're like, I would be embarrassed to give this to someone yeah then I had the stuff that my sister could go through that was like quality and I would fit out then I had the bag that was just going straight to the charity bin anyway so I handed off to my sister and she went back to the Gold Coast because she doesn't live near me and I don't hear from her about it and I was like really excited because I was giving her the quality stuff anyway so I bring it up and I said to her hey did you go through the bag
Starting point is 00:20:30 and she's like yeah I did I was like okay did you keep anything like did you like it or like you're welcome she's like no I think you would be nice she's like no Brittany it was disgusting and I threw it out I was like well I was like you didn't keep one thing nothing she's like no nothing why would I and I was so confused I was like they're some of my best pieces she was like what turns out I gave her a bag of like the oldest undies that you've ever seen like undies that I've worn that have holes in them that have like these are undies that have been through it I gave her stuff with moth holes in it. I gave her the bag that was supposed to go straight to the bin. Not even a bag that could go to a charity. Not nothing. This is like you'd burn this bag.
Starting point is 00:21:12 And that's what she thought I gifted her. It's the bag of clothes where, you know, they've lived a life. They have lived a century of life. They've seen some stuff. And like, I was mortified. So what happened to the bag that she was meant to get? Did you accidentally take that one to the Salvos or bin it? It's gone to Vinny's. It's gone to Vinny's. That's so annoying. Yeah. But that's great. There's really great stuff at Vinny's. But I was mortified to think that i gave my sister a bag of like dirty undies i don't want to say it on radio but i was like old used undies because i i keep undies for like i know you do too laura oh yeah 20 years i i keep underwear until it no longer has an elastic which has come in really handy because
Starting point is 00:21:45 now my butt's about twice the size it used to be and all those undies hit me again do you like how i'm trying to whisper it like australia can't hear it if i whisper it i was like i gave her a bag of dirty undies like you're still saying it i feel like this is a lesson for everyone though if you're going to do a clean-out, you've got to label stuff. It's the same like if you're moving house. Because I once, maybe about eight months ago, actually maybe longer, no one cares, I had two bags. Time is irrelevant.
Starting point is 00:22:08 I had one bag to go to the dry cleaners and one bag to go to the salvos. Both bags have been kicking around the back of my car, the boot, the garage. They've just been moved from different areas because I kept on thinking I'll take it eventually. Anyway, I mentioned to Matt, I was like, oh, there's a bag in the back of my car that needs to go to the salvos. Didn't tell him that there was one that was supposed to go to the dry cleaners. and everything ended up at the Salvos.
Starting point is 00:22:30 So that was really disappointing for me. Less alert, everyone. There's some great stuff out there. There's also some things that the owner didn't want to part with as well. So off you go, guys. Check it out. So we're going to be talking about Kissing Your Mates. Now, bear with me.
Starting point is 00:22:43 The new Jurassic Park rebirth film has just come out. So Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson are the lead actors and actresses and they are doing the rounds at the moment for the premiere. You went last night, didn't you, Britt? Yeah, I did go last night, actually. How was it? Were they there? Well, I don't want to give any spoilers because the film's not out yet,
Starting point is 00:23:00 but it was really scary. My anxiety was high, but I get really scared in films. And so like the anticipation of a dinosaur always going to jump out, it didn't do me wonders. How many Jurassic parks are there now? Three? Four? Don't quote me on that.
Starting point is 00:23:16 They really give a lot of time in between, don't they? Yeah, like 15 years. No, seven years maybe. There's eight Jurassic park movies. Britt's a real fan. Thanks, Greg. I have not seen all eight. No, I've seen about three of them.
Starting point is 00:23:29 But I did want to see this one because I have a crush on Jonathan Bailey. He's my hall pass. Gay or not, he's my hall pass. But also I just thought it would be really good with the CGI technology that they have right now. I just thought it was going to be a really good film. Anyway, that's not what we're talking about. At all of their premieres, Scarlett and Jonathan have been kissing
Starting point is 00:23:48 on the lips, like smacking it on on the red carpet. It's the way they greet each other, isn't it? Well, they sort of like go into an embrace, right? She holds his face and he wraps his arms around her and they smooch. Now, not a make out with tongue, but like it's just a big smooch on the lips. And it's for some reason causing a bit of controversy. Some people are saying it's inappropriate because she's married and should you be able to make out with your friends?
Starting point is 00:24:12 This is what Jonathan has to say. Well, another red carpet, another kiss from Scarlett. You might just be the luckiest guy on this red carpet tonight. Well, of course. Yes, absolutely. I mean, I believe in being able to show the love in all different ways. and if you can't kiss your friends, life's too short not to. Life is too short not to kiss your friends.
Starting point is 00:24:30 The question is, though, is, like, where's the limit? Like, should we be kissing on the lips? Probably tongue. I reckon tongue is the limit. Because they're only doing it because he's gay and I would dare say, and she's heterosexual, so there's, like, no threat there. Imagine if we came to work every day, Brit,
Starting point is 00:24:46 and we just kissed on the lips to say hello. I'd rather not imagine that. Imagine. I definitely don't want you to. Imagine. Or you come to work and you kiss your heterosexual, I don't know, I'm trying to, one of the boys who works in audio because you guys are friends.
Starting point is 00:24:58 It's weird. It's all weird. Why are we kissing our friends on the lips? Look, it's strange. I think in a way there's nothing wrong with it. Cute, wholesome, whatever. Your bestie is one of his gays. So, like, it's trying to say that he wouldn't have any interest.
Starting point is 00:25:12 I understand that angle but I don't understand the necessity. Like, you could also greet them and just say hello on the cheek. And I just think I'd have to ask my husband, Ben, but I don't think he would be thrilled if I was, like, making out with my friends just because they're gay. Like, I don't think it would matter to him. He would be like, well, I don't see why you've got to make out with them, gay or straight.
Starting point is 00:25:31 My question is. I would assume that would be his response. Yeah, and I, look, I mean, whatever. They're obviously doing it because it's getting great publicity and it's good for their publicity tour. Let's be real. That's the only reason why they're doing it. But does Scarlett kiss any of her girlfriends on the lips?
Starting point is 00:25:44 I'd love to know because if there's footage of her rocking up to every other premiere that she's done kissing her girlfriends on the lips and it's not because I think there's anything going on. I absolutely don't. I just think it's very PR-able, that's all. They're both hot as, they're having a cute smooch and it's making people feel uncomfortable. I didn't sign any non-disclosures.
Starting point is 00:26:03 The film comes out in a week but I'm about to say one tiny little spoiler. It's not a spoiler. Turn it off if you don't want to hear it. I'm not going to give too much away. Some people get eaten by dinosaurs. I do wonder if they're leaning into their storyline because there's definitely something going on between them in the story. So I'm just wondering if it's like a play on that for publicity purposes.
Starting point is 00:26:25 Well, we see this all the time, right? This is that kind of like the celebrity 101 is like if there's on-screen chemistry, pretending or playing out or leaning into that off-screen chemistry really helps people get invested in the characters and the storyline. So it was Sydney Sweeney and Glenn Powell in Anyone But You and they really lent into them having, like, potentially an off-screen romance, which at the time was a bit spicy
Starting point is 00:26:50 because she was engaged and he had a girlfriend. I reckon they weren't even leaning in. I reckon they did have a romance. You reckon they did, yeah. And then they had to say that they faked it. And then they said, we're just leaning in. Anyway. I wonder if these two are going to come out and he's like,
Starting point is 00:27:02 actually, I really do find Scarlett quite attractive and now we're together. There you go. Wouldn't that be a real curveball? No, she's happily married. That's true. now brit there is something i have to talk to you about i watched possibly my favorite documentary that i've seen in a long time last night on netflix does concern me that this is your favorite
Starting point is 00:27:22 documentary shocking yes surprising yes stinky could not turn it off it is called the poop cruise and now it's on netflix it's um been made by i think the overarching series is called train wreck Like, this is absolutely not sponsored. I just cannot get over what happened in that documentary. So for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, The Poop Cruise is all about a carnival cruise called The Triumph. Now, it was quite a few, I mean, how many years ago was it, Producer Grace? It was 2013 it happened.
Starting point is 00:27:50 So 2013. Imagine this. A cruise ship goes out into the middle of the ocean. There's a fire on board, right? And so all of the passengers start hearing this code alpha repeated over and over and over. And the reason why this is important is because none of the passengers know what code alpha means.
Starting point is 00:28:08 Of course not. And so apparently cruise ships have all these different codes for different situations so that crew know what's happening but the passengers aren't alarmed. Yeah, of course. Like there's something to look at but we don't want you to get scared. Yeah, so now we all know that code alpha actually means that there's a fire on board and that fire ripped
Starting point is 00:28:24 through the engine rooms. They managed to put it out but in doing so it took out all the electricity. Now there was no lights, there was no refrigeration, There was nothing on this boat. How far out to sea are they, like days? Like literally the middle of the ocean. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:28:38 But the thing that was the most problematic is that all of the toilets also work off the electricity from the boat. So there was no flushing toilets. Oh, no. Which meant that they had to come up with a solution. Have a listen to this. It was immediately crisis mode. The toilets weren't working.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Well, we can do a number one in the shower and then... I'm telling you, it got bad fast. I would never expect having to poop in a red bag. Oh, no. Oh, no. Mm-mm. No. Suddenly, everyone's out for themselves.
Starting point is 00:29:11 You could hear the panic. We were starting to smell urine. Oh, my God. It was terrifying. Guys, imagine being on a cruise ship, which I love cruising. Imagine getting stuck in the middle of the ocean in the dark and being given a red bag to do a poo in. That's okay if it's like, hey, if you guys got to poo for the rest of the day,
Starting point is 00:29:32 but how long are they stuck out there for? So it ended up being about three and a half or four days that they were actually stuck out there until what happened is these tugboats came and they collected them and the tugboats pulled them into the nearest port. The problem is is that when the tugboats started pulling the ship, the ship leant sideways and all of the contents of the toilets and everything else that had been building up just sloshed over the walls
Starting point is 00:29:55 and onto the roof and it was raining down the walls I feel physically unwell. And it was all over the floor. So they were just waiting. Why are you so into this? It was a fascinating documentary. But also, I really liked this idea. And I know that some of the codes are secret.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Don't go and look them all up. We did it for you. And I just want to share a few funny ones. Don't look them up. But I'm going to tell you anyway. Also, cruisers have these different codes. Some of them are very serious. And some of them are really funny.
Starting point is 00:30:19 There's also a bit of a secret hidden language on cruise ships. So have you guys heard of like the pineapple thing? So the pineapple thing is if you're a patron on a cruise ship and you're either wearing a pineapple paraphernalia or you stick a sticker of a pineapple on your door, it means that you're a swinger. And so apparently like a lot of people go on these cruise ships so that they can swap partners.
Starting point is 00:30:41 I know the pineapple. I have heard of the pineapple. I know friends that have used the pineapple, in fact. Really? Yeah. How did it go down for them? Well. What do you do?
Starting point is 00:30:50 Do you just knock on the door because they've got a pineapple out the front and you just know that it's kind of like free entry? No, it's a free entry. You can't just come in and out when you want. Come and pee in my shower. I also want to know if this is like specific cruise ships that this happens on or is it just like you can go on the Disney cruise and like mum and dad might have a pineapple on the door?
Starting point is 00:31:08 Well, I think it overflows into like the supermarkets. Remember we used to talk about the supermarket dating where they have like bananas or pineapple or different codes in your shopping trolley that signal to other people if you're like available or looking for stuff. Well, if you're ever on a cruise and you hear code Winnie, Here's one to look out for. Code Winnie means that a passenger has just done a poo in the pool
Starting point is 00:31:28 but they don't want anyone to know about it because they can't pump a pool on a cruise ship. Where does the water go? I think you're doing a disservice to the cruise ships here by outing their secret. Well, hopefully you're on a cruise that doesn't have any of these problems. That would be a real worry, wouldn't it? No, people would poo in pools all the time.
Starting point is 00:31:44 These pools are full of kids. Like there are turds floating in pools. Okay, another one was Code Road Cone and that means that there's a passenger using walkers who is moving extremely slowly. Why would you ever need to give a call out? Why do you need to announce that? Okay, another one, Code Oscar, Man Overboard.
Starting point is 00:32:00 You probably should know that one. That's not good. That's really serious. Guys, cruise ships, they're a world to their own and no one ever wants to get stuck on the poop cruise. But if you do want something to watch this evening, fantastic doco. Okay, well, I don't know if I'm going to add it to my list tonight.
Starting point is 00:32:13 I am. I do genuinely love cruising. It has not changed anything for me. I would love to go back and do another. I think we went on a P&O cruise last year. Loved it. If you got stuck on a poop cruise, you would feel differently. But thank you, Laura, for bringing that high recommendation.
Starting point is 00:32:29 Now, you guys might be familiar with the Reddit thread, Am I the A-hole? Yes, I am. I love that. We get a lot of content from that. We do get a lot of content from that thread. Are you laying down now, Britt? Correct, I am.
Starting point is 00:32:41 If this was a visual medium, Brittany's actually just laid down in her chair and shits how she's doing the rest of the show today. I've got a neck pain. It's a Friday. You've given up. I'm going home. Okay, well, hear this story out. Am I the A-hole?
Starting point is 00:32:51 I want everyone's opinions on this. So this woman has been married to her husband for over 20 years and she's been dealing with the same issue from him, which I'm not really convinced it's an issue, firstly. And secondly, I don't know whether her retaliation to this issue is justified. Well, I do love to be judge and juror, so hit me. Okay, so for 20 years, this woman has been asking her husband
Starting point is 00:33:12 if he can switch the shower valve rod. You know, so like, you know, imagine you get into a bath shower. So you're standing in the bath. You can either have different settings on your shower head, so either the water comes out of the shower head or you turn the valve and the water comes out of your bath, right? Yeah, just like that button, standard shower. Yes, and so it can switch between, right?
Starting point is 00:33:31 Anyways, she's been asking her husband for years if when he finishes his shower, can he please switch it to the bath mode so that way when she gets in the shower and turns it on, she doesn't get sprayed by cold water. This has been going on back and forth. Apparently, he will do it for a couple of weeks, then he'll forget.
Starting point is 00:33:47 She hates getting blasted in the face by cold water. She gets upset by it. It's been a real point of contention in their relationship, which makes me think that they need better things to argue about. I know exactly what she's referring to. It is really annoying when you think it's on one setting and it's not and it blasts you with cold water. When you get startled, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Startled? Well, you know when you get in and you're like, didn't expect to get sprayed in the face by cold water in the middle of winter. Okay, well, can I bring you my verdict? Wait, no. I've already decided. There's more. You haven't even heard her retaliation.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Oh, okay. So after 20 years of putting up with this, week in, week out, her husband saying sorry, I'll try harder, I'll be better, I'll remember. Yeah. This day, she gets in the shower. She gets sprayed in the face by cold water. She's freezing. She gets out.
Starting point is 00:34:32 She gets a cup. She fills it with cold water. Now, her husband is also naked in the kitchen for some reason. It didn't go into details as to why. Why is he naked? But he was naked. And she walked straight up to him and she threw a cup of freezing cold water in his face and she said to him...
Starting point is 00:34:46 What does the nakedness have to do with throwing the face? I thought she was going to throw it somewhere else. Because I think if you're naked, it makes it worse if you get a cup of water thrown at you because it goes down your whole body. Why are you shaking your head at me, Grace? I think it would be better to be thrown water. Thanks, Grace.
Starting point is 00:34:59 I'm so glad. If you're nude. Yeah, because then no clothes get wet. Fair, yeah. I think you'd just be colder. Imagine being naked and someone throwing cold water on your entire body in the morning. Anyway, whatever, we're bogged down.
Starting point is 00:35:09 Okay, so she's gotten on to Am I the A-hole And her question is, did she overreact or should she just every morning that her husband now forgets, spray him like you do to a dog when they do the wrong thing with a little spray bottle? Let me just go to the jury. Okay, I have my verdict. Yes, she's the a-hole. I reckon she's the a-hole too.
Starting point is 00:35:27 A hundred percent. If you're saying it's up to you to switch the shower back when you're done, then it's equally up to you to make sure the shower's on your setting. If it's that much of an issue that you're asking your partner to remember to switch it back, it's an equal issue for you to remember to do it. Like, I think for you to put that on him, you're just angry that you forgot. You're angry that you forgot to do it. Like, that's so silly to me. She's blaming him for something that she could easily fix. Yeah, but then if you've forgotten something, you need someone to blame. It's hard to blame
Starting point is 00:35:58 yourself. I'm joking. Obviously, I do think she's the a-hole in this situation, even though I do like to blame my husband for things that he probably didn't do. But I think that the reaction that she's received online is absolutely not what she expected. I think she was expecting people to be like, yes. Get it, Queen. You poor thing. You've been putting up with this for 20 years. You've been startled with cold water for 20 years.
Starting point is 00:36:16 And the entire internet was like, your poor husband. He's divorcing her for sure. Do you reckon? 100%. Imagine what she's reacting over when she finds out he's cheating on her. Over the weekend, last weekend it was, my oldest daughter, Marley May, it was her six-year birthday party. Six years?
Starting point is 00:36:36 Is that not what it is? It's her sixth birthday. She's six. It's her sixth year. She's six. On the planet. Yeah, she was six. We had a birthday party for her and we had a piñata.
Starting point is 00:36:48 I think that piñatas are just like the most staple kids' birthday party. If you need something to do that's going to tie them over for ten minutes and you also want to get all the lollies out of your own house, you stuff a piñata, you hang it up and you let the kids whack it for a while. I'm a piñata super fan. I'm not going to lie. You're a piñata super fan. Every year?
Starting point is 00:37:04 I pinata once a year I pinata hard people don't know this about me I am a secret pinata just by yourself I pinata it is my family's Christmas tradition since literally
Starting point is 00:37:17 there's not a year we don't have a photo since we were like three years old like our whole family all my cousins and aunties and everyone pinatas every single Christmas so I posted it on Instagram
Starting point is 00:37:27 right there was a couple of photos from the birthday party that I put up and I posted one of my stories on Instagram I never realized that piñatas were controversial now.
Starting point is 00:37:35 They're not. I didn't know this. Well, apparently they are. And the reason why I say this is because – Shut up. Not you. I mean – Sorry.
Starting point is 00:37:41 People, like, just have some fun. Let's go home. No, there was quite a few people in my DMs who, firstly, the question was raised around the violence of piñatas. There was also questions about – You're trying to get a lolly. You're getting a lolly. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:37:58 I can't even – I've got to go home. I can't even listen to this. Okay, let me explain to you. And when it was raised, firstly, I did read one of these comments that was sent to me and I was a bit like, oh, I see your point, but I think it's a stretch. So we always talk to our kids about not being violent, right? About like never hit things, don't hit people, don't throw your toys, like behave in a way that's showing kindness, I guess.
Starting point is 00:38:22 And that's the thing that you always try and uphold with your children. And then at birthday parties or once a year, apparently, if you're Brittany Hockley, you get your kids' favourite thing. Like, what's their most favourite thing in the entire world? A unicorn. Let's stuff it. Let's fist it with lollies and then give it a noose and hang it up by the neck and get all the kids in the line
Starting point is 00:38:42 to smack it with a pole. Now, this person was... This is so dumb. I can't believe we're having this conversation. I know, I know, and I agree with you. I was like, guys, I think that we've gone too far. The PC police need to calm down. However, someone then sent to me that there are a type
Starting point is 00:38:58 of piñata called a no-hit piñata. So it's a piñata that's been specifically designed for parents who want to have no violence. It's not violence. Wait for it. And it comes with all these strings in the belly. And so it's kind of like a lucky dip. So it's got all these different strings that hang down from it. And the little kids go and they pull a string and then, oh, that one didn't do anything.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Now they pull a string. That one didn't do anything. And if you get the right string, you go, and then the belly of the unicorn opens up and all the lollies rain down on the kids standing underneath. fun that's does it no no kid wants to pull a string guys this is i'm all for being progressive but this is ridiculous like just okay hear me out you don't have to have a unicorn why don't you get a criminal a piñata in the shape of a house and call it renovation teach your kids young we're knocking the house down we're going to rebuild it's the episode of the block it's not violence
Starting point is 00:39:55 you're literally trying to have fun to it's like it's like playing baseball you're swinging a bat What, are we going to not play baseball? Like, what's the problem here? Stop taking away all the fun from the kids. Okay, well, you heard it here first. Brittany's against it. I'm not giving up my piñata. I'm not.
Starting point is 00:40:08 I can see that. And no one's ever going to ask you to. I will never, ever give you a no-hit piñata. Do you know how extreme? I can't even believe they exist. Look, and I'm on your side with this. I got the messages and I was like, surely. Now, you'll be shocked at how extreme we are with our piñata.
Starting point is 00:40:23 Sorry. No. Brittany's got a piñata tattoo. No. Wait till you hear this. We've always had multiple piñatas. we make them and we make them at different levels my um grandpa used to make them so hard that the adults would have like baseball bats that couldn't crack them because he thought it was hilarious to
Starting point is 00:40:41 make it out of like proper cement and stuff so we would have like easy piñatas for the little kids would have different levels to ensure that everyone at our christmas party got a piñata we built pulley systems they're on pulley systems over the poles and stuff like we take piñataring so seriously. I didn't realise that this was... Yeah. So I'm pro piñata. I didn't know that I was going up
Starting point is 00:41:00 against someone who was a fully invested piñata person, but here we are. He's supposed to be one of my best friends, Laura. Anyway, guys, that's it from us.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Go and enjoy your piñatas on the weekend.
