Starting point is 00:00:00 This episode was recorded on Camaragal land. Hey guys, and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. I'm Brittany. My name happens to be Maddie J. And this is our radio show. This is where we package up the best of the pickup. We put it here in one tight little ball for you so you don't have to go back and listen to it and find it on the radio. And Brittany, actually this week, I forgot to tell you about something that was quite big it was significant this week how did you forget to tell me i live i don't know i just feel like there's so much going on at the moment everything just becomes a bit of a jumbled mess
Starting point is 00:00:36 and it happened last night okay and it's now been three years since laura and myself have been married we had our anniversary i actually knew this as well and i also forgot that i forgot i think you laughed at the fact that like laura told you it was the anniversary and you were like what are you going to go like to Sean's, which is a restaurant down the road from us? And you did? And we did. It's just, it's kind of lame because it's literally like whenever we have a birth date or an anniversary, we go to the same restaurant.
Starting point is 00:01:08 But you know why? It's not just that you love it. It's very convenient. It's very close to you guys. It's down the road. And what I love, Brittany, is not a lot of choice when it comes to meals. And at Sean's, you have to have an entree main dessert. And there's only three options for each.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Yeah, it's very limited. I think I like more options. Some people, I have been there at the table and people have walked in and the wait staff go, hey, just so you know, the menu is just, it's there on the wall. They write it in each day depending on what food they have available. And a lot of people have been like, not for me, and they walk straight out. Because people want more choice.
Starting point is 00:01:45 But I just think, aren't you happy to be spoon-fed knowing that every option will be incredible? But what if you don't like it? What if it's like some kind of butter sauce on a steak? I hate butter. You have two other options. For an example. You have two other options.
Starting point is 00:02:00 I have never once been disappointed. There's always something there that I'll have, Laura and I will share. Last time I think it was a birth date, but the same wait staff are also there. So they're like, oh, my gosh, you guys are back. What is it now? Oh, anniversary. Okay, great. So this is the wedding anniversary.
Starting point is 00:02:15 This was the wedding anniversary, correct. How many anniversaries do you celebrate? because do you celebrate the Bachelor? It gets a bit confusing because it's like we have when we filmed the finale of The Bachelor, then we have when that finale went to air, which was a little bit later. That's too much. Then we have then the wedding date.
Starting point is 00:02:35 There's just a lot of dates flying around and do you know what we have to do? We have to prioritize the dates. The wedding anniversary is kind of like the main one that we want to celebrate. The other ones are like an Instagram post and that's about all the attention that we give it but even the wedding anniversary this year it was a couple days before and i was like oh shit do you want to book should we book dinner we did you got to make the effort it's a slippery slope and all of a sudden you're not doing anything it is slippery it is a metal slide that is covered in detergent that's how slippery it is britney yeah straight into a
Starting point is 00:03:08 mediocrity that's where you slide we were like oh we've got poppy do we want to bring poppy to the restaurant it's a really small restaurant but we did lunch we well we ended up bringing her she's pretty good at night time she has like we had a six o'clock booking has to be the early dinner booking and so we're out of there by 8 30. So you know what this means? What? This is your three year anniversary this means three years ago I didn't know that my life was about to change this was the last week that I was single. You had casual sex with your? We banged next week. Oh my Yeah, it's my anniversary next week. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:03:45 How will you celebrate? Not by banging. No, no. Well, that's, I mean, you know what? I'll tell you next week. I'll tell you how we celebrate. A little like, maybe like a nice FaceTime. Yeah, a little FaceTime.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Yeah. Something, something. Yeah. Oh, that's where I was going, but I didn't want to. Hey, this week, something I find really interesting, but it's very polarizing. Cloning your pet. Like some people are all for cloning and some people think it's weird.
Starting point is 00:04:11 and it's science-y and you shouldn't mess with it. Blah, blah, blah. Gives me the ick. But if I cloned my dog and brought it to you, Matt, you wouldn't even know she was cloned because she's a clone. If I just didn't tell you she passed away. I would be able to tell. Smell out that science.
Starting point is 00:04:23 I bet you. If we have the budget, Producer Grace, can we bring in a range of pets and I have to try and suss out the ones that are real and the ones that are cloned? We do not have the budget. Okay. We don't know that many cloned pets either. Just an idea.
Starting point is 00:04:36 If anyone is listening, they have a cloned pet, please let us know. I want to talk about Marley's Dance Recital. So cute. It's been something we've been working towards for a long, long time, half the year almost, but it's finally happened. It took place at an RSL down the road in front of 500 screaming parents. I'll tell you how it went. Oh, huge.
Starting point is 00:04:58 Let's get into it. Matt, I know you have been keeping a very close eye on Taylor Swift and her bridal party. Can I just admit for a second that I had been a Taylor Swift hater for a number of years. And only recently, the last 12 months, I am converted. It was my daughter, Marlee May. She's obsessed and every day she'd drop off and pick up.
Starting point is 00:05:23 We would listen to her songs and I was like, do you know what? She's pretty good. She's very good. And I want to apologise to Taylor for not endorsing her music to the level that I am now. So when you say you're now a fan, is that because you're actually enjoying her music or are you a fan of her and like what she's created and her business savviness? We even have a little kid's book, which is The Life of Taylor Swift, How She Started.
Starting point is 00:05:47 And I think it's amazing what she's done. I think her live concerts are phenomenal. Just everything about her is just epic. It is. I also like her relationship now with the footballer. The footballer? Do you know his name? Travis Kelce?
Starting point is 00:06:00 Yeah, the footballer. Come on. Well, she stopped the press and broke the internet a couple of months ago when she got engaged. But now everyone is speculating that she has just chosen her bridesmaids. Now the reason that they're speculating. Yeah, what do we got? How do they know this?
Starting point is 00:06:13 Well, Taylor is, I don't know how much you know, but she's known for Easter egging. Like she drops all these hints in all her music, in all her PR, in everything that she does. So now everyone reads so much into her life that she can't fart without people thinking it's an Easter egg. Like what does it mean? Exactly.
Starting point is 00:06:29 Do we know Grace, producer Grace, sorry, can I put you on the spot? Do we know her wedding date? Has that been set? No, we don't know any of those details yet. But we do know a maybe venue. Do we? Yeah. Did you not know that?
Starting point is 00:06:41 Wow. Get up to speed, Grace. They actually asked somebody, apparently, allegedly, rumor, somebody was already booked at the place, the venue on the date that they wanted, and they tried to get them to swap it. I'm sorry, if Taylor Swift wants my venue, she can have it. I mean, you'd be like, sure, give us an invite.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Or a million bucks. And you can have my date. And a million bucks. And an invite? Sure. With a million bucks. Sure. So this is where the Easter eggs have come from.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Sure. All she's done is every weekend for the last three weekends, she has gone to dinner with a friend. But the friends are all people that are pretty like close to her and could be. So people are thinking that she's taking them to dinner and asking them to be her bridesmaids. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Well, I think that Sabrina Carpenter will definitely be one of her bridesmaids. I don't. No. Why? Because she's too new. I think Taylor will go for, like, those real long-term friendships. Sabrina only came in a couple of years, in the last, like, two years.
Starting point is 00:07:35 She supported her on her tour. They're tight. Nah. And they just had dinner together. Sorry. Sorry, I'm getting very worked up. Grace, what do you think? Nah.
Starting point is 00:07:43 I think she's too new. She's too new. Yeah. Then there was Gigi Hadid. So she's one of the Hadid sisters, Bella and Gigi. They're supermodels. Very tight. She was in Bad Blood.
Starting point is 00:07:53 In 2014, yes. In the film clip. So 2014, that's more of a long-term friendship. So I think that she'll make the cut. Then the next weekend she was seen with one of her close friends, Ashley Avignon. I don't know who that is. So she's not famous, which is why I think that it will be her as well.
Starting point is 00:08:09 So she's just a normal person. I think she's an interior designer or an architect and just someone that she's been friends with for a long time. Who do you reckon is going to be the maid of honour? Do you know what? I think Selena Gomez will be in there, but I don't know if Matt does not care. I'm really getting into this. No, I love it.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Okay, so at Selena's wedding recently to Benny Blanco, Taylor was an integral part of it but I don't think she was in the bridal party so she did a speech she got ready with her she was really in it but I don't think she was a bridal party so I'm wondering if that will be reciprocated
Starting point is 00:08:39 and Selena will be there and sing and perform do you think she'll be in charge of the whatsapp chat being like hey guys transfer me the 300 bucks for the gift I think Selena is a billionaire and Taylor as a billionaire will be paying for it how does that work
Starting point is 00:08:53 like does Taylor just pay for it all Taylor pays for everything you think so a hundred percent I'm not sure if she's like, hey, we opted for the bottomless brunch. That was $150 each. No, I think she's worth like $2 billion. I think she's covering the fettuccine carbonara.
Starting point is 00:09:06 I reckon she's fair. But I think that Taylor might be one of the only celebrities that is somehow going to pull off a wedding that no paparazzi get into that is not leaked. I think if anyone can do it, it's Taylor Swift. Impossible. Because it even got leaked. Selena's even got leaked.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Absolutely impossible. No, because you remember how sometimes she used to leave in a suitcase? Do you know her story about the suitcases? She travelled around in suitcases so no one would know when she was, like, leaving hotels and stuff. She's, like, six foot tall. How did she do that? Her security would come out with a suitcase
Starting point is 00:09:41 and no one would ever see Taylor and everyone is convinced that Taylor was being transported around in a suitcase. Wow, what a life she lives. In a suitcase. Yeah. Brittany, one of my children, they now have a taste for the main stage all thanks to this song. Oh, what a banger.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Yeah. And what do you mean by this? Are they the next, like, DJ Fisher or what's happening? No, I wish Marley produced this song. This was the song that she did her dance recital to, which was just last week. Her very first dance recital. Her very first.
Starting point is 00:10:17 Did you ever do dance growing up? Yeah, I was great. What did you do? What was your? I did it all. I did tap and ballet and jazz. That's why you were so good on Dancing with the Stars. Oh, thank you.
Starting point is 00:10:27 But I only did it when I was like five. Oh, come on. But do you know what I loved the most? What's that? Jazz. I was trying to decide. You thought about that one. I was really taking this in.
Starting point is 00:10:36 Don't rush into this one. I couldn't move my feet quick enough for tap. Well, I never did dance. The dance world is very new to me. And it was only because Marley's just been obsessed with doing little concerts at home and she always wants to do these dance. She's actually like really, really good. I know.
Starting point is 00:10:52 You're her dad. I know I'm one of those parents who's going to be biased towards their own child, but she actually has really good rhythm, which is weird for me to say as someone who has no rhythm at all. I don't know where she gets it from. Not me. Definitely not. We did see you on Dancing with the Stars.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Yeah, it wasn't great, was it? It wasn't the worst. Laura was actually, Laura is the better dancer. Laura was good. In the family. but Marley was like I really want to do it dad so I signed her up I didn't really know what I was getting her into I actually just thought it was like a Thursday afternoon class and what is it well they they've been working towards all year this big dance recital and it's a big deal it's
Starting point is 00:11:30 a full production dude we were at like a proper theater were you yeah and I was thinking to myself come on the kids five she doesn't need this we could just be in like the school hall right and also it was really really stressful myself and another dad we were the only two dads who were like managing this but some days on a thursday you got to bring the uniform that they're going to do the performance in other days bring their they're like jazz shoes and it was changing every week we had to be on our toes constantly because if you got it wrong we got reprimanded by the teacher like it was it's very serious man it's very very and like obviously laura's just given birth to a child so she was completely checked out of the admin of the dance so I was
Starting point is 00:12:15 in charge and then as well I guess leading up to the big concert which was on the weekend I got really nervous I was thinking oh my god my little girl it's because you don't want it when so many people and there's a stage as a production you don't want them to mess up or feel embarrassed for whatever reason like you just want them to nail it yeah and I thought that we were going to go to this concert and I would watch Miley on stage and then I would leave. But then I realized that I had to sit through 22 different performances. Well, I mean, that song sounds quite erratic. What was the dance? Like it sounds like Brazilian booty shaking. It was really, really good. And I can't tell you how amazing Miley was. But before I tell you about her performance, I lost it at the MC.
Starting point is 00:13:01 I yelled out. From the audience. Because he said, he goes, welcome to this theatre. It's going to be amazing. And he goes, I just want to give a big shout out to all the mums out there who got up early this morning to do a slick high ponytail. And I said, what about the dance? That's fair.
Starting point is 00:13:20 Right? I mean, I got up very early and I think I did a very good job. Did you have to do the slick high pony? Yeah. Marley was like, you're starting to draw blood now. You've been brushing my hair so much. And I was like, quiet, use half a tin of hairspray. But she looked amazing.
Starting point is 00:13:35 I want to say sorry to the MC for yelling out at him. Do they still wear red lipstick as kids? I said yes to lipstick and I said no to mascara. My line was the mascara. Why was that the line? Well, I just don't think the teacher was like, it's good for stage. You know, the bit of mascara is going to make the eyes pop with the lights. And I was like.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Just doesn't need it. Yeah, but she's five. I don't think any parent is going to be going, that was a good routine. Eyes weren't popping though, were they? Well, Grace and I grew up in the dance world and we wore a lot of makeup from a young age. Fishnets, buns. Is the mascara, should I be allowing it?
Starting point is 00:14:07 I think it's fine for stage. But I'm a dancer, so. I'm like, it's fine. She dances. I dance. But I was in tears. I was so proud. She absolutely nailed every single step
Starting point is 00:14:23 and then meeting her afterwards, annoyingly, I didn't know we'd do this. I don't know if you guys, as dancers growing up, did you ever get given flowers by your parents after a performance? Don't think I even got on Dancing with the Stars. Okay. Well, all these parents were there with bouquets of flowers. I sent you flowers on Dancing with the Stars.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Yeah, I think because you're a dancer. You get it. You get it. You get it. But she said, this was the best day of my life. Aww. Right? That's so sweet.
Starting point is 00:14:48 So I'm now officially a dance dad. I love that. But I want to see a video. Do we have anything? Well, I'll have to buy. So you're not that good. You cannot film anything because of safety reasons for the kids, but the DVD is going to be available 99.995.
Starting point is 00:15:04 I'm like, oh, my gosh, so expensive. So you didn't buy it. I didn't buy it. But just to reminisce once again, to bring us out, put your hands together for the conga. Brittany, this is breaking news right now. This is so important for not only us but all the parents that are listening right now.
Starting point is 00:15:29 6-7 is a term, a word that we announced just last week. It was word of the year announced by dictionary.com and also for those of you who are wondering. It means so-so, so-so. Do you know what? We actually didn't know what it means. We actually have Niamh here. Niamh's a 15-year-old work experience girl.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Niamh, what does 6-7 mean? Well, I actually don't know. Okay, wait, wait, wait. Be honest. Do you actually know that you've been told not to tell us? What, by other 15-year-olds? Yeah. Is there a rule that you can't tell adults what it means?
Starting point is 00:16:02 No. Okay. I don't believe her. So then do you use it? Do you use 6-7? Well, everyone says it and everyone laughs, but I don't think anyone knows what it actually means. So can you use an example?
Starting point is 00:16:13 I don't believe her. I reckon she's hiding it from us. Me, tell us. But this is even weirder, right? If the people using it don't know. They know, Britt. They just say this. I don't think they know.
Starting point is 00:16:23 When you interrogate someone, of course they're going to say, I don't have the information. Press harder. Keep going, Brit. Okay. So how would you use it? What's an example? If I came up to you and I was like, yo, Niamh, what up?
Starting point is 00:16:34 Would you be like six, seven? Niamh is rolling her eyes right now. No, you like pretend like you start counting to six and then when you say seven, everyone like laughs. Okay. Okay. I still don't get it. I get it.
Starting point is 00:16:47 I know I get it. I get it. Niamh, I understand. I'm picking up what you're putting down. Okay. Okay, thank you, Niamh. Thank you so much for jumping on the mic just now. Or should we say Niamh 6'7"?
Starting point is 00:16:56 Okay, so where are you going? So we've established that no one knows what it actually means. So no one knows what it means. Or do they? But apparently, okay, there is a study that has been done and they found that Gen Alpha, they are fed up with older generations hijacking their slang in a desperate bid to sound cool. That's why Niamh's not telling us any information
Starting point is 00:17:19 because she's like, oh, God, these guys are going to be cool. Because then she'll take it back to school. I know. And she'll get cancelled for bringing the oldies in. They were like, Niamh, before you go, just remember, don't tell them anything, especially not about 6'7". But apparently, apparently one Canadian study led by a 14-year-old, I mean, sounds trustworthy,
Starting point is 00:17:38 has found that teens understood 95% of their slang. Oh, thank God. While advanced AI grasped to barely understand half of that. Sorry, I don't get it. And maybe this is what makes me uncool. But if you don't understand what you're saying, don't say it. Only 95% of this 14-year-old study can say that they actually even know what they're talking about.
Starting point is 00:17:59 It reminds me when I was younger. I actually, I don't want to sound arrogant here, but I started a word which had like a different meaning. Oh, my God. When I was about 16. What was it? When something was really good, it was cheddar. Like cheddar cheese?
Starting point is 00:18:14 Yeah. You're embarrassing me. So I was like, you know, if someone had a great night out, I was like, man, last night was so cheddar. That didn't take off, did it? It did. Everyone was using it. And because of me, I started it.
Starting point is 00:18:26 It was my word. I'm so embarrassed. It was cheddar because how good is cheddar cheese, right? Yeah, but why didn't you just say cheese? It was cheese. Because cheddar sounds mmm. I would have said like it was halloumi because halloumi is the elite cheese for sure or feta.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Okay. Okay. All right, we're getting off course. So, okay, what we're saying is now the dictionary made it word of the year a week ago and now it's already been canned. Yeah, yeah. So just a word of warning to any parents out there, if you feel inclined to use six, seven in a sentence, stop.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Just don't. Because it's no longer a good word. Maddie J, I am crazy dog obsessed. You know that. Like my dog Delilah is my entire world. How many dogs have you had in your lifetime? I've never not had a dog. So our families have dogs since we were born.
Starting point is 00:19:12 Can you run me through very, very quickly just the history of dogs for Brittany. What did it start with? We had Diesel. Yeah. Diesel was a Weimaraner. A what? A Weimaraner.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Yeah. What's that? They're great dogs. A Weimaraner. Yeah. Am I saying it right? Yeah. I just said yes because I can't be bothered.
Starting point is 00:19:29 I'm like, yeah, that's sure that's it. Weimaraner. They're quite a big dog. Very lean, very shiny coat. Beautiful, beautiful nature. So, yeah, we had Diesel. Then we had Gizmo. Gizmo was a little shih tzu.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Who named Gizmo? I think it was me. Okay. gizmo was around for a while um and then we had honey honey was around for a while then we had daisy and ivy they were little they were little dogs daisy and ivy are um schnauzers and like bitsers from rescue dogs then we had nala and nala is a bitzer good i thought i had a lot of dogs no then i had mia border collie it keeps going yeah it's more this is like the noah's ark of dogs yeah when i say i had dogs i was yeah you've got a problem yeah i used to read
Starting point is 00:20:14 dog books as a hobby when I was a kid. Like I had a dog book and it had every breed of dog and it had like how big they grow, what they need. It was like Pokemon for you. You're like, I got to catch them all. Yeah, I loved it. Which is why I find this topic so interesting. I want to get your take on it. There's this rise in celebrities, Tom Brady being the most recent, he's the big NFL player in America, that are cloning their dogs. So cloning is one of those things that I didn't know people were actually doing it. You know, you just hear about it. What was Dolly the Sheep? Dolly the Sheep, 1996.
Starting point is 00:20:45 Dolly was. That was 1996. Yeah. I think she survived for about five minutes or something. How did that? It wasn't good for Dolly. Dolly the Sheep lived for six and a half years. Six and a half good years?
Starting point is 00:20:56 I'm not sure. Typical sheep lives for about 10 to 12 years. That's not bad. That's not bad. And I'm assuming they've come a long way. It's like TVs back in the 90s were pretty bad. And now, I'm assuming cloning is pretty good. Well, yeah, apparently.
Starting point is 00:21:09 So I didn't know so many people, like so many celebrities, already had cloned dogs. So Tom Brady's dog, Junie, is a clone of his past family dog that died in 2023. Paris Hilton, she cloned her dog in 2023. Barbara Streisand has cloned her dog twice. So she really doesn't want to let that go. That dog has lived like many lifetimes.
Starting point is 00:21:28 I just find it really weird. I think the beautiful thing about owning a pet is, you know, you have the personality. It changes. It varies. To me, it feels a bit strange to try and replicate it exactly. It would be strange if Buster left and you're like, eh, it's fine.
Starting point is 00:21:46 I'll bring him back. Yeah, I'll bring him back. I'm sort of, I sort of like it because the interesting thing is it's not just the way they look. It actually, a lot of their personality traits come through as well. I just think because my dog Delilah is almost perfect, I'd just put in more training. So if I could bring her back, but I'd just train her differently
Starting point is 00:22:04 because she definitely skipped some classes. Can I clone her but also just slightly improve her just a little bit? Yeah, but it's $50,000 apparently. I think, look, I think morally it is wrong. Why? I don't agree. Well, apparently 59% of people also agree with me. But why is it morally wrong?
Starting point is 00:22:20 Why is it different to like IVF or something, making a baby in a little saucepan? No, I think. Not a saucepan, a petri dish. Well said. I just think when it comes to pets, I just think we should enjoy what limited time we have with those pets. And when they're gone, we can say farewell.
Starting point is 00:22:37 No, I want mine to live forever. Okay, do you think we should clone humans? There you go. Boom, that's a real question. Oh, that's a harder question. Probably not because that would have too much of an impact on the economy really. Like you can't just have, you can't just be triple E.
Starting point is 00:22:55 Well, that means no one ever dies because when they die, they're just replaced but people are still being born. We're getting deep. Sorry, you asked the question. We're getting deep. Would you clone humans? No, absolutely not. cloning, I think ban it. Ban
Starting point is 00:23:08 it along with AI. Let's go back to the 90s. Minus Dolly. It's Thursday, so it is Ask Uncut Day, where you guys write in or you call up with the biggest problems that you've got, and we're going to do our best to solve them. I love helping the good people
Starting point is 00:23:24 of this country. Yeah, not all heroes wear capes, but Matt does. But today we've got Kelly on the line that's having a bit of a family issue. Hey, Kelly. Hi, guys. How you going? Can I say Merry Christmas yet. Yeah, why not? We're in the festive spirit and so are you apparently, Kelly,
Starting point is 00:23:40 but you have an issue. What's going on? Yes, so this year is the very first year that my boyfriend and I are going to be together on Christmas Day. Congratulations! Yeah, so we're really excited. I'm a big Christmas nerd, so looking forward to it. But the only thing is
Starting point is 00:23:56 that both of our families really really want us at their Christmas on Christmas Day and we just can't decide who to go with. That's it, basically. I'm just after your advice. That's a tricky one. Britt, what have you done in the past? It's a common problem, I would say, because everyone experiences, right? Two people come together. They have two families that I'm assuming don't always live together. I mean, for me, it's tricky. My husband lives on the other
Starting point is 00:24:21 side of the world, so we always just have to pick one country. I think it depends for you, Kelly, what's the location of both families? So we're based in Melbourne. His family are up in Ballina in New South Wales, so kind of near Byron Bay. And then I'm a Kiwi
Starting point is 00:24:39 and I'm from Hamilton. So travel involved both. I'm so sorry. Hamilton's great. Is it? Well, yes. You have the V8 supercars. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:24:52 But they do say Hamilton's like puberty. You all have to go through it at some point. Look, you're hard because you're in another country. Actually, I think this is easy. You're going to have to just say that you're going to take it turns year by year and alternate and maybe you have to flip a coin
Starting point is 00:25:08 for the first year, like who starts. Or maybe it comes down to finances or I don't know. Has he been to Hamilton before, your partner? So, yes, he has. And we last saw my parents. They came over here in September. So, we have actually seen them quite recently. whereas his parents, we actually went up and saw them
Starting point is 00:25:29 but we still haven't seen them since May. So maybe it's time to start with his family and then do yours next year. Are you thinking this is a long-term relationship? Oh, yeah. Okay. Well, look, my decision is based on the fact that I've been to Hamilton before and I mean, Kelly,
Starting point is 00:25:48 no disrespect at all. It was just a little, how do I say, shit. in the most polite way possible. So I think if you're comparing the two, I think you've got to go balance. It's Byron Bay. Come on. But Matt, you don't pick this kind of stuff based on the town. It's family and it's love and it's the attention to those
Starting point is 00:26:12 that you care about. I just think sometimes you've got to be selfish and that's okay around Christmas time. You want to do what's going to make you and your partner happy and I just think Byron Bay, baby. Imagine that, being on the beach and being one of the best beaches in the world. Do you care about
Starting point is 00:26:27 missing out on your family? Like, is it okay? Are you happy to go to Byron? Oh my gosh, yeah. Well, then there's your answer. There we go. I mean, look, I'll be sad to obviously
Starting point is 00:26:37 let my mum down, but I think it is, look, I guess that's the only way to do it, right? Like, they both want us. They're both Christmassy mums, but it's just going to have to fall, maybe flip a coin.
Starting point is 00:26:47 And let's not forget that next year, it's going to flip. It has to flip. You can't just commit to Byron. And you get to have It's a magical festival time in Hamilton. Can I say, I just want to, if anyone is from New Zealand
Starting point is 00:27:00 and in particular Hamilton, I want to say sorry for my comments on this segment. Yeah, you've been really harsh on Hamilton. I have. I have. Fair, but I apologise. At least it has a year to redeem itself now. So hopefully by this time next year, it'll be a lot better.
Starting point is 00:27:14 Thanks for calling, Kelly. Have a good Chrissy. Thank you. Hey, Matt. She took that well. Well, you were pretty abusive. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:22 Honestly, when I went to Hamilton, I went to get some money out from the ATM and people were like, don't do that. Well, it's not like Venezuela. Well, it's worse. And it is Friday. It is the end of the week and we want to send you off into the weekend armed with some fun facts that you can take to the pub, to the party, to the family barbecue.
Starting point is 00:27:44 Matt, you always need some. You're always popping next door. Do you know who loves these fun facts? I go home and I tell them to my mum. She loves them. I cannot get enough of them. She is like the fun fact queen. We should call her up one time for this segment.
Starting point is 00:27:57 Sometimes I think that I let the bar drop a little bit and they're not that fun, but these are pretty fun. Do you know what? I honestly, I've never not had the time of my life for Fun Fact Friday. You guys are doing an exceptional job. Okay, I'm going to start with do you know that the Spice Girls weren't always called the Spice Girls? What were they called before they became the Spice Girls?
Starting point is 00:28:20 I have absolutely no idea. Can you give me some type of clue? Can I have help? It's something that you can do to somebody else. It's something when you pick up an object, you are. The borrowers. That's a good guess. I think my hint was worse.
Starting point is 00:28:35 Touch. They were called touch, which doesn't have the same like zing, does it? Yeah, right. Okay. Like touch. Spice Girls is just maybe because we just know them as the Spice Girls, but touch is a bit meh. Yeah, they actually said when we first started as touch,
Starting point is 00:28:49 we were really bland. But then they added some spice. Mate, I could be wrong here. And Producer Grace, please jump in if I'm spitting lies to the listeners here of the show. But apparently the names, the Baby Spice, Scary Spice, that was given to them by... I told you that.
Starting point is 00:29:06 Sorry. I'm regurgitating the facts back to the fact teller. I'm so sorry. Well, no, here's a fun fact on that fun fact. Go on. Is that next week on the show we have a Spice Girl and that's why I was telling it. We have Mel C.
Starting point is 00:29:18 That's right. Sorry, guys. I thought I had something good for a second. Hey, here's a really good one. This is the funnest fact I've ever had. Did you know that woodpeckers, the bird, its tongue actually wraps around their brain to cushion the brain from concussion because they peck so hard.
Starting point is 00:29:35 I did. I knew that. Did you know that? Yeah, David Attenborough told me that. Okay. Okay, well, we'll move on. But a fun fact nonetheless. Okay, here's this.
Starting point is 00:29:45 If you've ever been convicted of theft, you might be able to use this one in court. Koalas have fingerprints that are nearly indistinguishable from humans. They are almost the same. So you might get away with saying it wasn't me, it was a koala. Imagine if you had like a thieving koala in your neighbourhood or one that was, you know, heaven forbid, like grievous bodily harm. I had a koala break into my house one day.
Starting point is 00:30:12 Well, exactly. And they're like, we'll never know who he is. And the koalas in the tree are being like, they'll never suspect me. Okay, here's one. The Guinness Book of World Records. Why was that created? Oh, I used to, I was obsessed. I still remember like the 2006 Guinness Book of Records.
Starting point is 00:30:30 Got it for Christmas. Love that gift. Do you know where it came from? Was it Ireland? Sorry, not literally where, but how it came to be. Was it like a travelling show maybe? No, that's a good guess though. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:30:44 So it started because there were so many bar arguments over like – well, it actually started with birds. Which bird is faster in Europe? Like which bird can travel the fastest? And so people used to get into big arguments in bars. So to settle it, they started doing like let's race the bird, let's see. Then they wrote the record down and then the person that came up with it was the head of the Guinness Brewing Company.
Starting point is 00:31:06 Wow. Isn't that amazing? I had no idea. I know. How much does it cost? Can we find out how much it costs to, like, have a record watched over by Guinness to make it official? What does that cost?
Starting point is 00:31:18 I don't know. You know what record I would love to break? What? The fastest 100 metres across a Lego. No, a woman just did that. Yeah, and it was really slow. I would pay you if you can break that. I will give you how much?
Starting point is 00:31:30 $50? Grace, how much does it cost to get a Guinness World Record officiated? It's free to submit a standard application. What? Yeah. So there you go. If you can break the Lego, 50 bones to you. Well, 50 bones is like, come on, come on.
Starting point is 00:31:46 Wait, I'm not. I've seen how much you earn, Britt. You have not. 50 bucks is like the equivalent of 10 cents for the normal people. All right. Well, if Grace can add $10, we'll make it 60 bucks. I don't get out of bed for less than 100, guys. Matt, you should be breaking records for the record.
Starting point is 00:32:02 World record or not. Hey, can you give me one quick one to end on? Okay. One more. I'd want one more. Yep. Do you know what the divider at the grocery store is called? You know that separates, like, the food?
Starting point is 00:32:11 The chalk? I don't know. It's called a spratchet. What? That is a lie. You're honest, see? A spratchet? A spratchet.
Starting point is 00:32:19 Yeah, so next time you can say, could you pass me a spratchet? Who's doing what now? Thank you. Thank you. That was End It On A High. I think you guys can take those into the weekend. You're very welcome. Spratchet.
Starting point is 00:32:39 Thank you for watching.
