Starting point is 00:00:00 Life Uncut podcast acknowledges the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders, past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today. This episode is recorded on Gadigal land of the Aurora Nation. Hi guys and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. It is our radio show and I'm Laura. I didn't know you had a voice. I also will remember to put this one up because I forgot to put last week's radio show up, guys.
Starting point is 00:00:33 Did you? Yeah. Did it ever go up? No, it's not out. Still waiting. But I'm going to take some bits out of it and put it into this one so you don't miss a thing. Actually, a lot of people messaged wanting the show. Of course they did.
Starting point is 00:00:44 So give the people what they want. You didn't say your name and neither did I. Who are we? Because Laura started telling a story about what she forgot. Well, no one forgets who you are. Can I say? You're Midge. I'm Midge, yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:54 I will introduce myself. Hi, I'm Britt. look it was a big week the logies were last weekend in case anyone didn't know i'm sure you're sick of seeing it it was all over social it was sarcasm it was a rhetorical question a bit of a rhetorical joke it's the song that doesn't end and it was uh everyone's sick of seeing it on social media but it was a you know a moment for all three of us all three of us did make fashion criticals list where they review our outfits, but it didn't quite all go to plan.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Fashion critical, if you don't know who they are. They're like this cult online Facebook group, and they give reviews on fabulous and not fabulous outfits. And, well, Mitch is not as happy with his review as we are. Let me just say, no, because I got a lot of life for saying very nice things. I was wearing a powder blue suit encrusted with pearls and diamantes. That was beautiful.
Starting point is 00:01:45 And it was a bold choice. It was by Reina. It was gorgeous, custom made for me. but this review was brutal. Oh, they took you down. Really bad. So you'll hear that on the show. How are you feeling?
Starting point is 00:01:55 Because you sound depressed. No, I actually feel great because I've got a lot of boys in the DMs. I'm happy. You're like, I'm winning. You also know that if you make it on Fashion Critical's list, even though it's bad, it's still good. Totally. All press is good press, baby.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Mitch, I love that you sort of slipped past that. We haven't spoken about it, but we may as well breadcrumb it. Mitch had a super uber famous person slide into his DMs. No, no, no. Yes, you did. Are you ready to share that yet, Mitch? They purchased that blue tick, I think. Not yet, no.
Starting point is 00:02:20 The DMs are on fire. Actually, update on my relationship on the show this week. I ran into my ex for the first time since the breakup. It's never good, is it? Oh, my God. It was bad. I flashed him in the eyes with my phone torch. I thought you were going to say you flashed him.
Starting point is 00:02:33 No, no, he would have loved that. You know, the first run-in with an ex after a breakup is horrific, and this was, I think, the worst I've ever heard. Well, I'm having my own run-ins. Not me, it's Delilah. Delilah has another dilemma. My dog, we all know. She's the light of my life, but she's been, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:02:49 I guess left out of something, would you say? She's having some problems at preschool. Yeah, but she's been forgotten. She has some political problems at the dog park, yeah. Yeah, politics at the dog park. I tell a story about how I'm very close to divorce with Matt, although it's not even true. He's not going to divorce me.
Starting point is 00:03:04 Although it's not true. I told a story, it wasn't true. No, the story's true. He's not going to divorce me. Sometimes I think maybe he should. He's way too patient with me. You might be on your last legs, Laura. No, because even when I do terrible things, he's just like, cute, Laura.
Starting point is 00:03:18 I'll put up with it. Also pays the bills. We're talking about it. So he's like, maybe he's just so patient because he knows that's how you can pay the mortgage. Yeah, he's like, thanks, babe. I'll put up with you. Only for now. Then I'll take you for half.
Starting point is 00:03:29 All that coming up on the show. Guys, I have a bone to pick. Who with who? There's always a bone. I have a beautiful husband who I love and adore, but he started doing something very annoying. and we are six years into this relationship. I like sleeping in the same bed as him, but I don't know if I can continue to do it.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Is he dropping bombs? Oh, no, here he does that. I sleep naked. I need you to paint the picture for me and show pictures if you've got them. He used to sleep naked, but he stopped doing that because our four-year-old daughter gets in bed all the time, so that would just be weird.
Starting point is 00:04:00 So now he sleeps in underwear. Is he Dutch ovening you? Yeah, but no, that's not the problem. I can handle the Dutch ovens. What I can't handle is something he started doing every single night for the past week. What? My husband has turned into a snorer.
Starting point is 00:04:14 How did he just turn into a snorer? Oh, yeah. It just happened overnight. I recorded this, and this is only the tail end of it because he'll do, oh, just play this. It's awful. It's like a trombone. It's like he's playing one of those little kids, like,
Starting point is 00:04:35 when you're at a party, those little blower things. It's like someone playing the trombone, but that's also falling asleep at the same time. Sounds like a tram running into a pedestrian. And I'm devastated that this is all I managed to capture because this is what it really sounds like because it gears up. It starts off there. It starts off as a, and then it goes.
Starting point is 00:04:56 Oh, no, he could have severe sleep apnea. You need to, this could be a. Is he a? Oh, God. Is he a back sleeper? He sleeps on his stomach. He sleeps on his back. He sleeps on his side.
Starting point is 00:05:06 It makes no difference. I wake him up all throughout the night and I'm like, honey, roll over. Honey, roll over. But now we've started arguing in the night time because he'll be snoring and I'll say, baby, you're snoring. Can you roll over? And he'll go, I'm not snoring. I'm not snoring.
Starting point is 00:05:18 They're like, well, you are. I'm not waking up at 3 in the morning to tell you to roll over because you're not snoring. You need to give the man a break. No, okay, I have evidence now and I want to prove to him that he has turned into a snorer and he needs to do something about it. We have him here. Matt's just called.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Hi, Matt. Welcome to the show. How dare you. Oh, don't you start. Don't you start. Can we just play that again? Yeah, of course. This is 4am last night, everyone.
Starting point is 00:05:46 Sounds like it's coming out of both ends, to be perfectly honest. I think it is, which is quite talented, really. Matt, what's your take on this? Well, firstly, that's not me. That's just ametry. I want evidence that that's actually me. I feel like she's taken that from somewhere else. But the reason why I think it's not me is because there have been occasions,
Starting point is 00:06:05 okay occasions where i'm not even asleep i've literally gone and laura's woken up and hit me and said you're snoring it's like it's like you go hey matt you're on my side of the bed no i'm not i'm literally i'm literally five millimeters from my end of the bed or you say you stole all the blanket it's i've had enough you really think i've thrown some accusations out i just want to point out you you do this even when you're in light sleep so i could have woken you up from snoring and you'll roll over on your side and within 30 seconds you're snoring you're not even asleep and you're snoring you do it all the time how has this just happened you never snored two weeks ago it's only just it's like a new thing it's a new hobby and it needs to stop these hobby i think
Starting point is 00:06:52 i don't think he's talking with his mates at the pub going boys i need to spice up my life I'm going to snore in the bedroom. Go get me another beer and I'm going to start snoring to spice up things. Hey, you guys want to meet on the weekend at the park and snore? Yeah, you're going to hold hands and snore, boys. It's not a hobby. Well, I don't know what's the solution here, Matt. Well, I want to know what the solution is.
Starting point is 00:07:10 What do you want from this, Laura? As the court of the pickup, you've confronted Matt on air. What do you want from this? Yeah, what do you need to take? Firstly, I want him to take accountability. I want him to acknowledge that that's him and it's horrible. Matt, we have the audio. I have seen the footage.
Starting point is 00:07:23 It is you. Where do you stand with that? now being faced with the fact that I, completely out of this, I'm not involved, but I have seen the footage and it is you. You look great while you sleep, by the way. What do you say? He did say there's too much blanket. I mean, is this, we've had a good run.
Starting point is 00:07:41 We've been together for a while now. Married for almost a year, together for seven. Is this, Laura, is this, are we, I guess there's no coming back. Are we done? You're cool, Laura. I think we could stay together, but if you continue snoring, you might have to sleep in the kids' bedroom. Okay, fair.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Fair, good. Okay, great. If you're going to break up, I'll take it. Or maybe you could get one of those nose snoring plugs. Just put a peg on. Just trial it. We can get some little different apparatuses. You can try them first before we take drastic measures like divorce.
Starting point is 00:08:12 Look, I'll be honest. I'd rather there's a divorce. Okay. Hey, you heard me first. Take that headline, Robert. That's the key to a healthy relationship. That's really escalated. You've got to know when to call it.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Everybody, I am back on the market. Thank you, Matt. You need to go to a sleep specialist ASAP. Just confirming, are we getting a divorce or not? No, I really love you. You'd have to do worse than that. You're Australia's sweetheart. We love you guys.
Starting point is 00:08:35 You couple. Thanks, Maddie J. I love you, honey. Just let it go. He's a gorgeous man. Just drop it. This is the hill I will die on. If that's the only fault the guy's got, I think you've got to let it slide, Laura.
Starting point is 00:08:46 It's not that bad. But you can't sleep. Then maybe you need to go into the other room. Maybe I need earplugs. I think the problem is you, Laura. Taylor Swift, you're the problem, it's you. Okay, as you guys know, it was the Logies on Sunday. It was.
Starting point is 00:08:59 We all got primmed up and looking proper. We were wearing our absolute best. And it's one of those things, right? It's like the night of nights. And one of the goals when you go to the Logies is to try and get onto the best dress list. Like everyone's trying to get a good photo. If you're not on the best dress list, you just don't want to be on the worst dress. It's either like you're in that purgatory dress or best.
Starting point is 00:09:21 That's it. To be fair, I've only ever been to Logie's once before and I think I got onto the worst dress list. I wore a midriff. There's rules. There's Logie's rules around the things that you can and can't wear. But you were best dressed at the list this year. All right.
Starting point is 00:09:33 So there is a thing called Fashion Critical. If you haven't heard of it, it's got a cult following across Facebook. Fashion Critical is this anonymous persona who critiques, I say celebrities in inverted commas, but they critique many people's different fashion, questionable fashion choices. and you do not want to be on Fashion Critical's bad side, put it that way. I have been waiting for their list to come out from the Logies because I was like, where am I going to sit?
Starting point is 00:10:00 And for me, I think I looked probably as good as I did at my wedding at the Logies and it's the only time. That's a big call, Laura. Because I usually wear sweatpants. I am such a loser and I was like, please, I'm never, ever, ever going to look this good again. Don't say bad things about me. Laura, you look beautiful and let's just point people
Starting point is 00:10:17 to the pick-up socials if you want to see how we all looked because the photos are up there. So let's go. Give us the fashion reviews of our Logies looks. So Fashion Critical had this to say, Laura Byrne, absolutely flawless doll. In my top five, it's safe but gorgeous. Laura's like, that's the end of the break?
Starting point is 00:10:35 I just wanted to deliver. Needed to read that out. Okay, Brittany, you got this. Didn't get a look at the front. It's just a photo of your back. Didn't get a look at the front, but this is a stunning back and frock of Brittany Hockley. Again, we see the hair up to show off the neckline of the dress.
Starting point is 00:10:49 I love the earrings and her makeup looks glowy AF. Okay, like great, but also you could have just Googled the front as well. It was a great front. But this is, I mean, these are some rave and great reviews. Yeah, they're great. And then Mitch Turi. It is such an honour to make Fashion Critical's list and you made it. My first time, my first time ever.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Are you excited? I think, I don't know. I was wearing a very bold suit. It was covered in pearls and diamonds. Okay, it was beautifully embroidered. This is what she had to say. Diamantes, not diamonds. This is white fashion critical.
Starting point is 00:11:16 One time in a high school exam, the entire room of year eight students commenced hurling tiny spitballs of paper at one another and somehow the teacher on duty didn't notice. I feel like this suit is that teacher. Oh, so many little spitballs, so little time. What does that even mean? To be fair, up close, the pearls were quite lovely. I have issues with the proportions of the jacket and the pant length
Starting point is 00:11:41 and the shoes look like commercial kitchenware. You all know I love that men are having fun with fashion these days on the red carpet, and long may it continue. Oh, Meech. Do you know the funniest part of that? The funniest part is she said, you know, the kitchen shoes, the shoes were so bad. Meech messaged me a photo of his shoes before in his outfit,
Starting point is 00:12:01 and he goes, what do you think? I said, I don't think you should wear them. He goes, I'm wearing them. I'm doing it. They're hot. And that's what she wrote off. The best part of this, Meech, is I'm sorry. I shouldn't say the best part.
Starting point is 00:12:10 It gets better. Sorry. I thought I looked fantastic. You do. You were a goddess. But you need, that was the post from Fashion Criticals. Wait, can I just say, it was ill-fitting because I was wearing Skims shapewear and I didn't anticipate them to be silky so my pants were slipping down my hips
Starting point is 00:12:24 because I was like a baby seal and I couldn't keep pulling them up. It's true. This is so, it's so mean. You need to listen. It gets better. And when I say better, it's just we're laughing at you, not at you. No, so the comments that came off the back of this post, I want to read you some and I've sent you some actually, Mitch,
Starting point is 00:12:43 if you want to join in, so it doesn't look like we're bullying you. But there's this one lady that wrote, there's a mother of the groom out there somewhere wondering what happened to her outfit. Okay. Someone has just written, I have no idea who he is, but he really tried his best. Someone else says, designed by Millers by the looks of it.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Put Nana's wedding gear back. It's beyond awful, but I like the don't care attitude. Dude, you had planned this outfit for so long. You cared so much. I put so much time into it. You know what they say, all press is good press. That's right. Yeah, I'll take it.
Starting point is 00:13:21 I'll take it. A thousand tiny bruises every time he tried to relax back onto the chair. Okay, that's enough. I get the point. Not a fashionista. You. Case closed. No.
Starting point is 00:13:30 Can I say one more? Yes. It looks like the beanbag popped open and static took control. All right. You know when the beanbags get stuck. I know what they meant. Mitch, we loved you. You looked fantastic.
Starting point is 00:13:45 I'm going to a break. I control the buttons. We're going to a break. Okay. Thanks a lot. You're the belle of the ball and you're bloody the beauty. And then I am. Top five.
Starting point is 00:13:53 I was top five. Popped beanbag. You're the beanbag. Mitch, you went and saw the Barbie film, didn't you? I did. I saw Barbie on opening weekend and loved it. All right. Well, hand on heart.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Laura and I haven't actually seen it yet. The reason I'm going to ask you this is when you walked out, How did you feel? Really empowered, overly feminist vibes. What was your takeaway from it? Because there's a woman that went to see it with her boyfriend and literally walked out and broke up with him. Jeez, I can see how that could happen.
Starting point is 00:14:19 It was staunchly feminist, but in a good way, in a way that made me happy. Well, there's this thread going viral on Reddit, you know, am I the a-hole, where people write in anonymously and they give their question, am I the a-hole? This woman said, am I the a-hole? Three days ago, my boyfriend and I went to go see the Barbie movie. We were so excited about it.
Starting point is 00:14:36 He loves Ryan Gosling. I love Greta Gerwig. But we walked out and he had different views on how it should have gone, how feminist it was. He's made a lot of comments in the past that were questionable about women and LGBTQ community. So they went out of the movie, sat in the car, and she wanted to talk about, you know, the overarching feminist theme
Starting point is 00:14:59 and what it means for women. And he disagreed with her and she's like, you know what? I can't do it anymore. It's over. And then in there, because of Barbie, she broke up with him. Wait, I mean, it sounds very extreme, but did she sit in the car and then she was like, oh, my goodness, I am dating a misogynist who hates women.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Like, to what extent was this? Well, she said, quote, I was tired of having to always deal with his attitude and disrespect and was also on this girl power high. So I told him it was over. So obviously she's like, she's taking this girl power from Barbie. It has a deeper meaning, right? Obviously he's making some very misogynistic comments and they have big disagreements that are probably a lot more serious
Starting point is 00:15:37 than the Barbie movie. But over-archingly, they saw Barbie and broke up. Who would have thought that Barbie would have become such a feminist icon? Like who would have thought that she would be the one that's making women go, I need better for myself than a tiny little waist and high heels. It makes you think, though, like the silly reasons you've broken
Starting point is 00:15:53 up with people before. Like at surface level, she broke up with him over a movie and I was thinking, do you know what, there was this one person I was dating many moons ago, many moons ago, and I broke up with him because he farted too much, too often, and the fart, it wasn't a normal fart. These were like he had been eating pal dog food nonstop, no measure. You would not be able to be married to my husband.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Oh, no. This would knock you over. It would knock you on your butt. And on top of that, he had a single bed. I was like, I can't do it. You're farting and we're sharing a single bed. You dated a man and you slept in a single bed. What did you do, head to toe like you're on school camp?
Starting point is 00:16:28 Yeah, head to toe. No, we spooned, but you couldn't move all night. And then the farts got contained. The farts were contained too. His ass was in your face. Because they had top and tail. Two adults cannot spoon in a single bed. I know.
Starting point is 00:16:41 It's literally called a single bed. That's why we broke up. I once broke up with a guy, speaking of things that happen in bed. I was asleep this one night and I woke up and I thought that I had like a hot sweat. I thought that I'd gotten really clammy during the night time. Like a flush. Just like a flush. I mean, I was only in my 20s, but I was like, oh, maybe like I had a fever.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then I realised, actually, I was a bit damp, but it was the doona that was wet. Oh, no. And I was like, what is that? And he was asleep snoring next to me and then I smelt it and he had weed and it had soaked into the doona and I was wrapped in his weed blanket.
Starting point is 00:17:19 So you broke up with him because he weed in the bed? I woke him up and I was like, well, he was drunk and I was like, we need to go and have a shower. And then we got in the shower and he cried and I was like, I can't do this. Wait, you know what the worst part is? I can't do this. It's too harsh.
Starting point is 00:17:31 I haven't broken up with someone over that, but I'm realising I am the man because I have wet the bed and as an adult. Have you? Were you drunk? No. Just lazy. Just didn't want to go to it. Stop it.
Starting point is 00:17:40 No, I have with my long-term partner. We're not together anymore. Is that why? I wet the bed. No, Midge. You can't. No. I wet the bed as an adult and then I cried after.
Starting point is 00:17:48 I was very upset. Oh my God. It was you. Hang on. Were you two seen each other? This makes so much sense. Before I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Sleep apnea doesn't make you piss yourself.
Starting point is 00:17:57 It makes it hard to breathe. It does. And you snore. You can't piss yourself. That's not a symptom. That's even funnier. Sleep apnea makes your body in duress. And my bladder.
Starting point is 00:18:08 It was fight or flight. I had to fight. My bladder. My bladder. My bladder expressed itself. It's not my sleep. It expressed. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:17 You didn't express yourself. You just pissed the bed. Oh, my God. All right. I want to know what is the most ridiculous reason that you have broken up with someone? There's got to be better ones than this. I'm sure. We've got some callers come in.
Starting point is 00:18:31 We have Liz from Melbourne. Hi, Liz. Hey, Liz. Hello. Liz, did you break up with your partner or did he break up with you? I was on the opposite end, so he ended it with me. I'm seeing this guy all seemingly going really well. It had been a few months.
Starting point is 00:18:48 And then he ended it because he thought my shoulders were too broad. Okay, no, hang on. This hits home a little bit because I'm quite broad. Britt, I know I've heard you talk about this. You know what? You're not supposed to agree with me. You're supposed to say Britt, you're tiny. Britt, you're a tiny little ballet dancer.
Starting point is 00:19:07 Britt, you are. You're petite. No, I'm listening to the podcast and this has come up. And so it hits home for me too. Yeah, I'm quite broad and it's like I'm self-conscious and if anyone ever commented on my show, I'd break up with them too. So he literally said you're too broad for me.
Starting point is 00:19:21 Well, yeah. Well, you're like you can't handle me. Yeah, too much. Too much. Too much of a good thing. Is Brit the face of the broad shoulder community? I need to unpack that further. I do.
Starting point is 00:19:31 I have a Facebook group. I'm the vice president. Okay. Love it. Shay, what happened? Why did you break up? Hi. So, his feet.
Starting point is 00:19:42 His feet. His feet. Oh, his feet. His feet. His feet. What was wrong with his feet? So, well, I mean, this was a while ago. I think I was in grade 10.
Starting point is 00:19:52 So, I was going down to the beach and he was taking his shoes off and they were just really tiny, short, stubby, fat toes. Oh, okay. Don't toe shame. Not on this show. I'm feeling really attached. The last caller was broad-shouldered. Look at my toes.
Starting point is 00:20:05 I also have short, fat, stubby toes. You have the ugliest toes I've ever seen, Britt. The rest of you is glorious. Hold on. I haven't seen them. Your toes are awful. Excuse me. The ugliest you've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:20:15 They're not that ugly. They're just short. It's a condition. It's not a condition. I just have short toes. Have you seen a toe specialist? Oh, sorry. just because Laura Byrne has a wicker feet page.
Starting point is 00:20:27 Britt is so gloriously beautiful, but it stops at her ankles. Yeah, from shoulders down to above the heel. Britt's gorgeous. So basically I've got a great torso, is what you're saying. Nothing above, nothing below. No. Oh, thank you, Shay. All right, Emma, finally, why did you break up?
Starting point is 00:20:46 So it was really petty, but to be honest, I'm really glad I did it. My ex-boyfriend loved taking baths. And this was a daily thing. He would spend almost an hour in there. He's doing some self-care. He just refused to take showers and he was just in there for too long. I had dinner. I had laundry to do and he wasn't helping with anything.
Starting point is 00:21:10 He'd just sit in his bath. He was just bathing. He was bathing. So he never showered? No. He religiously took baths. I feel like that is something because even when I bath, I shower after it because the bath, you're just fermenting in your own grot.
Starting point is 00:21:24 Your dirt comes off and then you just roll around in it like a little pig in mud. Are you also sure you weren't dating a toddler? A man baby? Yeah, I should really go back and ask him. God, what I'm getting from this is that people are just petty, broad shoulders, toes, and a man that likes to clean himself. And then people complain how hard it is to meet someone. Come on.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Oh man, I know. Now as you know, I'm the youngest person in the history of the world to ever be on radio. Oh, you are truly a genius. You did just win the Guinness World Records. I did. I'm a Gen Z-er. I'm on the cusp. I can be Gen Z-er, I can be millennial, but I identify with Gen Z-er,
Starting point is 00:21:57 and especially at the moment with this new trend that is all over TikTok. And I think you two are going to actually be for this. It's not in the planking trend again, is it? Not planking, not the ice bucket challenge. What are the little kids doing now, Mitch? It is the lazy girl job. It is trending. So let me play you the biggest video.
Starting point is 00:22:17 This is the most viral TikTok that explains what a lazy girl job is. It's called lazy girl jobs, not because we're being lazy. It's an anti-hustle dig. Back in the day, you would, like, be the first one into the office and the last one to leave. This is basically saying true work-life balance, like all the stuff that I talk about here, working smarter, not harder, saying yes to that learning opportunity because we know it's not just a learning opportunity that would give us a raise. It usually doesn't happen like that, right?
Starting point is 00:22:42 They're just getting a discount on labor. Everything that I'm talking about here is considered lazy if you compare it to the toxic corporate workplace expectations. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So now women across the globe are quitting their jobs and getting menial, stress-free office jobs, which all that they really need to do is copy and paste, send some emails, they get an hour-long lunch break and they work a nine-to-five and they check out. Okay, sorry. This is a quote here.
Starting point is 00:23:07 I've got this piece of paper. I love me a lazy girl job. but all I have to do is copy and paste the same emails and documents, take two to four phone calls a day, take a break whenever I want, listen to my podcast, all while getting a nice paycheck. I'm sorry, I'm not about this. She's a twat. What is wrong with people?
Starting point is 00:23:25 No, that's taking, I don't know if I can say P-I-S-S. You said worse. You've spelled it now. Can kids spell? Kids can spell. Well, these kids can't. I bet you this lazy girl can't spell. She can't do anything.
Starting point is 00:23:38 She copy and pastes four emails. I just think that this is the problem. If you are actually happy in your life to go through this with no ambition, no drive, not wanting to actually do the best that you can do, do it. But that's on you. I could think of nothing worse than being an underachiever and taking advantage of people that are paying me and giving me a job. Sorry, it's cancelled the lazy girl for me.
Starting point is 00:24:01 Okay, Britt, I agree with a lot of this. I really do because I think that there's nothing less attractive than someone who just has zero ambition or desire to do anything. Like, I mean, how boring would it get if you spent all day copying and pasting a couple of emails and listening to podcasts? Sounds great for a week. Two years of doing that, you're not going to be very inspired by your work. But I do think that when we were younger, like when we were in our,
Starting point is 00:24:24 getting our first jobs in our early 20s and whatnot, the expectation to hustle so hard was almost too much. Like, I used to drive two hours, two hours to work, two hours home from work, to make less than $30,000 a year and still live with my mother. It's not about hustling. It's just about work ethic. Imagine, Laura, you're a business owner.
Starting point is 00:24:45 Imagine if you found out that all your employees were in a group text laughing, taking the piss, that they listen to podcasts, take breaks whenever they want on your money. I hate to break it to you. They do. They do because people do that because we do it. Everyone does it. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:24:59 I used to work 90 hours a week. I would never put myself in this category. Did you go home and bow down to your supervisor and go, I love you, amen, I'll kiss your shoes? But, you know, I worked in a hospital and then went to two other jobs when I wasn't there and that's not because – it's because it's work ethic. I want to get ahead in life and that's what you have to do. I also think, though, that there's a big responsibility that lies
Starting point is 00:25:18 on the employer and it lies on the culture of the company because if you do have people who are truly lazy, who are taking the piss, as you said, Britt, in your office environment, if everybody else loves their job and is working because they feel inspired and you've got a great team around you, those people stand out like a sore thumb. So I almost don't blame the people who are kind of the lazy girls and they're rorting the system.
Starting point is 00:25:42 It also comes down to the culture of what the company is that you work at. I'm also all for it because at the end of the day, you're only going to be abused by someone else. You shouldn't just be allowed to be abused by those that are above you. Take advantage of them back. That's empowering. Oh, I'm not all for it. You're switching the power back into your own hands
Starting point is 00:25:56 because she's not going to continue like this for her life. This could be for a three-month period while you recover from something. This could be for six months while you save up. You don't have to hustle your whole life. I think it's an empowering choice that someone can make. But it's not about hustling, and God knows where you got abuse from. This has nothing to do with abuse. They're literally just saying we want to do as little as possible in our life.
Starting point is 00:26:15 I think the hustle culture is overrated. It's not for everyone, and that's fine. You can have your 9 to 5, your Monday to Friday, but still do a good job. Put the effort in. You don't have to sit there and literally take advantage of everyone else and be like, I'm going to do nothing. They're bragging about the fact that they do nothing for a good paycheck. I'm not about it.
Starting point is 00:26:33 And I agree. The big thing is that this is the environment on TikTok, on social media, where people see these aspirational lifestyles and they think, how can I achieve that with doing the least amount possible? And I do think that that's where the comparison culture of social media comes into play. And also it sets a super unrealistic expectation.
Starting point is 00:26:51 Most people can't just have cushy jobs and get paid to do nothing. People build houses. People have got to go to work. They've got to be plumbers. They've got to do many different things. People work for it. Not just sit and push a couple of emails. I know, but on the flip side of that, imagine being these people watching influencers get paid $100,000 for one Instagram post.
Starting point is 00:27:06 Why should then other people and other women be allowed to go and do a 9-to-5 and have to hustle and work under someone and work hard and respect the job? They can go start their own business if they want, Mitch, not take advantage of someone else's money. I know, and they can. And then go see how hard you actually have to work. But get a lazy girl job and do it on the side. This is why I'm Gen Z. I fully identify. You guys are boomers, I've understood, and I'm a Gen Z and I connect now.
Starting point is 00:27:27 I think what we're hearing is you're lazy. It all makes sense. Yeah, I own a couple of businesses and you would be fine. That's fine. I have another radio show to do after this. All right. Let's start. We're done.
Starting point is 00:27:36 That's us. That is all a lazy girl would say. We're done. It's always so nice to end a show on an argument. It feels invigorating, doesn't it? Laura and I, let's continue. We've got a lot to talk about. She's like, nah, I think that's a wrap.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Yeah, I've got a break. Hold on. I'm putting my AirPods in. I've got a podcast to listen to. There are wild scenes happening at the dog park, ladies and gentlemen. My dog Delilah and I, it's become a thing. It's called Delilah's Dilemma. Every week we have a dilemma.
Starting point is 00:28:03 And this is probably the worst, I mean, the worst thing that's happened to us together since her conception two years ago. Your dog has more dilemmas than my children. I know. It's a vibe. Many more. It's a vibe. Your dog's a menace to be with.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Anytime you go to Brit's house, you've got to hide your shoes because it gets eaten. Please, all she does is cuddle you and lick you to death. She's the sweetest, most beautiful girl. Anyway, get this. At the local dog park, there's always the same people and the same dogs in the area. Everyone knows each other, okay? So at my dog park, I just found out through the grapevine
Starting point is 00:28:34 that there was a birthday party, a dog's birthday party. What the owner did was send out invitations to all the dogs and the dog's owners because the dogs can't read, sent them out to the dogs and the dog's owners that they were having a birthday party for this dog. And then they hired a venue out for the dogs. They hired a minivan. No.
Starting point is 00:28:55 The minivan went around and picked up all the dogs from their houses. Not the owners. This is dogs only. They went to the venue that had loads of toys, dog cakes, everything, and they had a whole dog party with all the dogs because they all know each other. Then they dropped them all home with goodie bags, and it was a whole big thing. The only two dogs that weren't invited was Delilah and her best friend. There's so many things that's wrong with this one.
Starting point is 00:29:19 I'm very sorry that Delilah was left out. That's a horrible thing. She's feeling really left out, and so am I. We're the only two people and they're the same dog. So Delilah's an Australian Shepherd and the other dog that didn't get invited was also an Australian Shepherd. Wait, is that some sort of breed sort of discrimination? It's, yeah, shepherd discrimination, I think.
Starting point is 00:29:40 No, I think it is because Australian Shepherds, as beautiful as they might be, are such a handful. They wanted to have dogs that are unsupervised. Also, the party is weird AF. Let's just get that out of the way first. Yeah, I'm glad you said that. I actually think it's funny. the fact I great do you know what I love that people love their animals so much that they're
Starting point is 00:29:58 throwing parties would I throw I mean I forgot Delilah's birthday it was it was actually not that long ago a couple of weeks ago I forgot it but I love that people are doing it but it's like I imagine I don't have kids I imagine it's when there's a birthday party at school and all the kids get invited except that one or two kids yeah but it's a bit different with the dogs but I think she knows she's been acting differently at the park her tail's been down she's moping around the trees and she's sort of looking on at the other dogs from she knows wait did you take did Did you take her to the dog park on the day of the party? Because there were no dogs there.
Starting point is 00:30:27 And then she would have known. She's like, hold on a second. There's something happening that I wasn't invited to. There was a WhatsApp group between the dogs and they put Delilah out. Well, that's what I want to know. How did you even find out about this? Do you have like a dog park WhatsApp group? Or is that how it works?
Starting point is 00:30:38 Yeah, there is. But the other dog. No, there isn't. The other dog that didn't get invited. The other dog didn't get invited. They told me. Wait, how did they? The dog told you.
Starting point is 00:30:48 The dog told you? She was like, whoop, whoop. And I was like, no way, Fido. You're insane. No, the other dog's parent told me. They're like, hey, I don't know if you've heard yet, but our dog's the only one who's not invited to the party. So this mum's bitching.
Starting point is 00:31:00 No, she was just telling me the gods. We're all still friends. We pretend like, I don't know if she knows that I know that she knows that I know. What do you do now when you grow up? But I think I've figured it out. It has to be because Delilah is just too good looking. Her friend is really good looking too.
Starting point is 00:31:17 So I reckon they just didn't want the good looking dog. What do you reckon it is, Laura? Do you think it's because Delilah is too good looking? an answer, honestly, or is it because she's a menace of a dog? Delilah is very good looking. She is a beautiful dog that always needs to be supervised. So, ladies, I
Starting point is 00:31:33 had a run in with my ex-boyfriend for the first time since we broke up this weekend. Sorry, I imagine this is going to be theatrical, so I put in the shock straight away. How long has it been since you guys broke up? It's been what now? It's been three months since the breakup, but it was dragged on or in no contact because TikTok told
Starting point is 00:31:49 me to yep and all my therapy podcast said no contact yeah um so we're in no contact haven't spoken in about six weeks but i haven't seen him in about in about eight nine weeks and so where did you see him we were together for five years okay so i'll set the scene um i was at it was actually a very exciting event i was at the premiere of rupaul's drag race down under season three which is on stan oh which you absolutely love and are desperate to be a guest judge on Yeah, I'm obsessed with Drag Race. You do your little Friday night viewings? So much.
Starting point is 00:32:19 I do. I watch the episodes every Friday. They drop Friday on Stan. And this was the premiere. It was the first episode. And I have a friend on this season. One of my friends is a drag queen. She was the first eliminated.
Starting point is 00:32:28 It was very tragic. But we were there to support. Let's not talk about that. So I'm going, I've got a friend there. I love Drag Race on Stan. So I'm going to go and have a night out. It was a gay bar on Oxford Street. And I go, I'm going to get the train in.
Starting point is 00:32:40 I have a little drink. Drink yourself. Yeah, I have a train. So I get on the train. I'm a little late. I haven't been on a train in a while and I forget you've got to tap on and then tap off. He doesn't know all the buttons work.
Starting point is 00:32:49 I was stressed out and the conductor came up and I still thought there was a steam operator at the train. So I'm like, where does the coal go in these things? But it's been a while. So I get off the train and I have to change and I'm running up to Oxford Street because I'm running late. Like I'm a good 15 minutes late and I don't want to miss the premiere. So my phone, I just put it in my pocket after tapping on
Starting point is 00:33:07 and I clearly haven't locked it. I haven't locked my iPhone. It's still unlocked. And you know on the new iPhone software how you can have multiple different wallpapers. Oh, how when it's kind of like lock screen and you can flick through them. Yes. I have like 15 wallpapers on mine.
Starting point is 00:33:20 Yeah, you can have like one of your dog. You can have one of your family. Yeah. And I clearly, obviously, am now single. So my wallpaper is not me and my ex-boyfriend anymore. It is just a beautiful escape of the city. It's a nice photo. It's an old photo of you, wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:33:34 Maybe. It was an inspiration photo. You had an inspo photo of you like five years ago. Yeah, it was. My wallpaper is a photo of me. But that's not important detail. I'm rushing up Oxford Street trying to get there in time I'm stressed, I rush up the stairs
Starting point is 00:33:46 I'm sweating, I see my friends My friend Emily's performing on stage The drag queen, and I go, oh my god I'm going to get my phone out and film my good friend Emily I pull my phone out And because it was unlocked It had pressed a whole bunch of buttons, so my torch was on And it's a dark club
Starting point is 00:34:02 Right? Yeah, so you're flashing a torch around Pull my phone out, the flash is on This is so awkward, my friend goes, your flash is on And I go, oh shit, so I pick up my phone and I notice that my wallpaper has been changed to a photo of me and my ex-boyfriend, Hayden, in my pocket in the stress. I go, oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:34:18 I turn to my right and my other friend goes, Hayden's entering the building. Hayden's just arrived. Yeah. So I look to my right. My ex, who I haven't seen in weeks, turns up, looks me in the eyes, beelines over for me. But you – wait, no. My torch is on.
Starting point is 00:34:34 No, so you've got a spotlight for him. You are literally like a lighthouse with a beacon. You're like, Hayden is here. Come. This way, here I am. And he's on your screensaver. It's a distress signal and we've broken up. I broke up with him and then here's him looking at my phone going,
Starting point is 00:34:48 is this a sign? Is this a sign that he wants to be back with me? Did he see? I don't know. I hugged him and said, hey, how are you? And he said, I'm all right. Oh, stop it. So I don't know if he's seen it or not.
Starting point is 00:34:59 I feel viscerally uncomfortable. How embarrassing if he saw that and thinks you have him as your screen saver. Show me your phone right now. Show me what's on the phone right now. Pick it up. I changed it. Oh, my God, it's you again, cute. Just a generic photo of me.
Starting point is 00:35:13 So did anything happen off the back of that? No, but he's blinded now because the torch was shining in his retina and it gave up. You've probably given me signals. Like you break up with him and then you beacon him over in the middle of a club with his photo on the phone. With also like a hug and a kiss. Okay, did you go on to his social medias afterwards?
Starting point is 00:35:29 Has he blocked you? Like where are you guys at in the world of the social media landscape? Oh, I blocked him, so I can't see anything that he posts. Yeah, I blocked first. Yeah, but he messages me and he goes, Brittany, can you go on his Instagram quickly and tell me what's happening? And I'm like, I will do that if you want me to, but I don't think this is healthy behaviour.
Starting point is 00:35:46 It was in the early days. Anyway, it was absolutely mortifying. Mortifying. But Drag Race was great. I love the premiere, guys. So wonderful. Watch it. New episodes every Friday.
Starting point is 00:35:54 Mitch, do we need to sit on this for a while and unpack the trauma or do you want to move on to Drag Race? Yeah, were you okay? Because it's always awful seeing an ex in real life. Yeah, actually, first time it's ever happened in my whole life. It's because you've got one ex. That's a very good point. Good play.
