Life Uncut podcast acknowledges the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia
and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders, past and
present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
This episode is recorded on Gadigal land of the Aurora Nation.
Hi guys and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. I'm Laura.
I'm Brittany.
I'm Mitch.
And this is our radio show.
It's the pick-up where we do the pick-up every day of the week
and then we package up all the best bits.
Thanks, Laura.
This is the pick-up where we pick up.
Well said, Laura.
Do you know, there will be people who listen to our podcast
who get to this episode and they're like, what is this?
And I always worry about that person.
Like if this is the first episode that you've ever clicked on
in my punk art and you're like, this isn't what I thought.
I wanted a dating relationships podcast.
There's some dude here and then they're talking about the pick-up.
It's confusing.
As far as dudes go, you're lucky to have me.
Imagine if they put you with someone on the pick-up
because we were paired unconsensually.
They kind of threw us all together and it's worked.
It was consensual.
We actually chose you.
Yeah.
In the early days.
In the early days.
No, we chose you in the early days as well.
Did you not choose us?
He didn't have a choice.
In the early days, we were forced together.
No, that's called a chemistry test and then we chose you.
No, I know how.
But I was already on radio.
You weren't.
How did you choose me?
Well, that's what we're going with.
Sounds better on paper.
Hey, speaking of the pick up, I got picked up this week.
Oh, yeah.
How did that go?
It was unusual.
And I know everyone's laughing.
Ha, ha, ha, you got picked up.
I did, in a really weird way, have an attempted pick up.
In an Uber?
What are you talking about?
No, like someone hitting on you.
You know what, when you're at a bar.
That doesn't surprise me, though.
Like, I mean, not that you, look.
What are you trying to say?
You're very hot and I would try and pick you up.
Like, you getting hit on is not a surprise to me.
I would expect that you get hit on.
Okay, it was the way I got hit on.
Britt's like, I know, me too.
No, but like I waved this rock, my new ring around.
So like I think that people would see that.
But it was the way I got hit on that was unusual.
And you guys, Mitch and Laura and me, had very different opinions
on if it was nice or not.
All right.
Well, this week I had actually an awful moment.
I wasn't picked up.
Well, I feel like maybe I was.
I told this story.
You'll hear it.
Someone paid it forward.
They did a random act of kindness for me and my boyfriend.
They paid for our juice.
But what happened after, you girls forced me to do something
that I've never done in my life and I have never felt a weight
off my chest like I have now.
How good do you feel now?
So much better.
A little broke but I feel better.
Do you feel like a better person in your heart?
Yeah, 100%.
You look like a better person because you used to look
like a bit of a tight ass.
You do need to work on being a better person.
I'm not the best people there is.
I mean, we're mean to him but we love him.
I'm in the room, you know.
What's your name again?
Mitchell.
No, I love it.
I'm Keisha Patel.
And Laura's shitting the toilet.
Yeah, that's a really well-rounded show.
You guys would know if you listened to the pod a couple of episodes ago,
the story I was telling about how Matt did poo in the toilet
at a friend's house who was being renovated.
The toilet had no water in it and then he had to email the builder.
It was a whole thing.
There's more to the story, would you believe it?
Yeah, and I share the poo update.
There's been a plot twist of all plot twists.
Wow, flush.
Sorry, that didn't make sense.
What?
Mitch, you were on your phone and he looks up and goes, flush.
He was on his phone.
I wasn't on my phone.
You were on your phone then you looked up to contribute.
I was texting Matt.
Shut up.
You were not.
I was texting Matt.
Anyway, look, guys.
This is why you need to be a better person, Mitch.
Why did I go flush?
I could have done.
I could have just laughed, but I said flush.
We know we're here.
Let's just get into the show.
Britt, we're dying to hear about this romance that you started on the weekend.
Well, look, I didn't want to flex, guys, but here we are.
I'm so glad you're making me say it.
I went to a very fancy, classy bar and I got hit on.
And I feel like I wanted to talk about it because, A,
it doesn't happen often anymore.
Britt, I don't believe that it doesn't happen.
And I mean this.
Have you seen the size of this ring?
Yeah, that's true, actually.
It's kind of like a shield, like a man's shield.
Well, no, I don't get hit on anymore and it felt nice.
But I thought it was an unusual way to hit on someone
and I had this moment where I was like, wow, chivalry isn't dead.
so my friend and I were sitting at this high table and the we were we had an amaretto sour
and the barman comes over with a big bottle of champagne that he was popping at the table gave
put two glasses down and I said oh sorry that's not for us we didn't order that and he said oh
I know you didn't order but it has been sent to your table for you and I was like what we started
to look around we're like what do you mean who sent it and he's like well he would rather you
not know oh it was it was like a mysterious bottle of champagne sent over and i was like ha ha ha no
like who sent it because obviously you only send a drink if you're supposed to be over at the other
end of being like like you know it's me yeah he said no no he did he doesn't want you to know
for wall street style when they're just sitting there waving making eyes yeah smoking a big cigar
and so we were sort of looking around i'm like okay cute then another drink comes once that's
done oh and i was like okay this is ridiculous you've got to tell us who it is and he's like no
he he was adamant he doesn't want you to know and i in my head i was like okay something awkward's
gonna happen eventually he's gonna walk over to us or at the end of the night like otherwise what's
the point are these all bottles of champagne i'm hoping they're closed drinks because all my thought
goes to is is don't take an open drink from anyone it was all from the bottle of champagne and it was
it wasn't the barman wasn't bringing over a drink he was pouring it at the table and he's he even
said to us is this okay are you happy to receive it and i was like yeah we're happy to receive it
How drunk are you, Brit?
So anyway, we were a few deep and it kept coming the whole night.
We left that night without knowing who the masked bottle man was.
I never knew who was sending the drinks all night.
So there was actually –
I don't know if you can count that as being hit on then.
He didn't really do any of the hitting.
Well, no, that's a very valid point.
He didn't do anything.
It's valid, Laura, yes.
Could have come from anyone.
That's not a hit on.
There were a few – no, because it was a man and there were a few –
I think what might have happened is I think some younger,
hotter chicks walked in and took his attention.
and I think he diverted his attention.
But I had this part of me that was like,
well, that's actually really nice
because you sent us drinks all night,
but it wasn't for any reason
other than you wanted to make someone's night.
You didn't come and be sleazy.
You didn't hit on us.
It was like, obviously you've got money to burn
and you wanted to, I don't know, pay it forward.
I don't know what that is.
But I thought it was really sweet
because there was no pressure on us.
We just got drinks for nothing.
I don't think it's particularly chivalrous
to be sending someone drinks,
not make yourself known
and then just kind of sit there in the corner watching them.
Like, that wouldn't be my – if I was going to say what chivalry is,
I don't know if that's how I would kind of classify it.
But it is because chivalry is just doing something nice for someone.
Yeah, I'm with Brit.
No, because he's only doing it because you're hot.
No, he's not.
No, he's not because he didn't come.
Because you're hot.
No, because he didn't come and find me.
He didn't want anything from it.
That is chivalry.
Maybe he wanted to see you very drunk and then he would have tried.
There was someone a little bit older at the bar,
and I think it was him, right, because I was trying to look around.
He was by himself and I think he just had money.
He was a bit older.
I think he was like, I've got nothing else to do.
I'll just make some people's nights.
Do you know what I started doing though?
I started talking really animatedly so I could wave my ring around.
I was like, oh, yes.
Whilst drinking the champagne.
I was.
I was like throwing that around.
You know who loves champagne?
My fiancé.
Yeah.
He'd love this experience.
Anyway, I loved it.
I still got it.
That's what I think.
I think Chivalry is alive and well.
Case in point.
Thanks, Mitch.
Laura's over there on TikTok.
Is this video that's got her attention?
It was on Instagram.
Come on.
I'm not on TikTok.
I'm a millennial.
That speaks to who you two are.
I'm on TikTok.
You two are reading the newspaper on Instagram.
Mitch, don't you start.
This is for you because you are the one who constantly on this show
brings up that we are old and you are Gen Z and you are cool
and you are hip and you are in the know.
Also, don't throw us under the bus.
Most people consume their news on Instagram, Mitch.
Do they?
No, most millennials do.
Most Gen Z, like myself and my community, consume it through TikTok.
But there's a 10-year age gap between us.
Which you love to point out almost every show.
And it's not true.
How old are you?
28.
Yeah, I'm 38.
Nine years.
Ten years.
Nine years for me.
Mate, I'm taking every year when I can get it.
All right, well, you guys might know Tanya Hennessy.
So she's, I mean, she's been a radio presenter.
She's very, very big on Instagram.
She's a bit of a comedian, but she has had a viral video recently
pointing out something that us millennials are very familiar with
and I don't even think you would ever have to have experienced this, Mitch.
have a listen to this it's really crazy gen z you'll never get this for millennials this is a
deep cut why did we call our parents on the phone at their workplace like we would literally just
interrupt their work day to ask them really dumb questions sometimes you'd have to talk to a
receptionist before you got to your actual parent and then you get on the phone to your parent and
go oh can sarah come over i remember this as a kid my mom was a school teacher didn't have a
mobile phone and I would have to I'd have to call up I'd get through to the receptionist she would
go down to the classroom get my mum my mum would have to come up to where the phone was you'd wait
on the phone for seven minutes for your mum to come and then you'd be like hey mum whatever the
question was it was absolutely stupid but I lived this this was part of my life I remember I always
used to call my dad as a real estate agent and Mrs James would be the woman that answered she
was a secretary she's about 100 and rest in peace and uh she would go and find my dad and my dad
be with a client and take Asia and he'd come and I'd be like, hey dad, I'm just looking
for an extra 30 cents so I can get $2 so I can go and get $2 worth of hot chips. Do you
know where there's any money around the house? And he'd be like, princess, you can't call
me at work for this kind of stuff. But I can. I was like, but I need the hot chip. Could
be an emergency. If I want to call my dad, guys, what, what, there's a thing that's been
invented called mobile phones. And I can also just text my dad. I can just go, hey dad,
you know what? I could also DM him on Instagram. Yeah, but you've never lived this pain. I
know that you have a mobile phone, Mitch. I'm well aware you're always on it. We didn't
have one growing up. Like when I was at school, it wasn't until I was 16 that I got a mobile
phone. So all through primary school, this was my life.
I couldn't use the phone and the internet simultaneously. It was one or the other. If
you were on the internet, downloading a song illegally on LimeWire, you had to get...
Okay, I had LimeWire.
Because it was dial-up.
This is hard. I know dial-up, the sound.
You only know that from these segments where we've paid it out.
No, I've heard of it. Listen, sure, all right. I don't know why I'm so defensive.
You know what?
You want to start a generational war.
We can exist in peace.
I can tell you how to look younger and you can tell me,
I don't know, how the good old days were.
I look younger than you, Midge.
You can talk about when the world was flat.
No, I feel like millennials, I feel like we're under attack.
Like we are the ones who are made out to be losers,
we're made out to be old, that we don't get Instagram.
Laura, you've got the classic millennial pause on your Insta stories.
Whenever before you speak, you'll go, hey, guys.
I'm like, she got the hiccups or something.
What's going on with Laura?
I just want to wear my ankle socks in peace.
That's what I want.
Oh, Brit and the ankles.
Brit was wearing boots the other day.
I thought she was going into the wall.
I don't know if I'm doing it right, but.
Show me.
Oh, no, they're good socks.
Okay, they're inside out.
They're inside out.
That's not a generational thing.
That's just stupidity.
I feel like I have a generational gap with my fiancé, Ben, actually.
That's another story.
Wait, no.
What's the age gap between you and your fiancé, Brit?
Well, five years.
He's younger.
Yeah, he's younger.
Thank you.
He's younger.
But he all the time is schooling me on stuff.
Like sometimes I'll get dressed.
And he'll be like, babe, you can't wear those socks with that.
And I'm like, what?
And he makes me change.
And sometimes he makes me tie my laces differently.
And, like, he's really into fashion.
And I don't get a lot of that stuff.
I don't know if that's – is tying your shoelaces a certain way generational?
Have I lost – I've lost it.
It depends on the shoe type.
Yeah.
He also lives in Scotland, so maybe it's a weird European thing.
You know, I don't know.
So, Mitch and Laura, I feel like there are certain people in life that, like,
can only have one name and you know who they are.
I'm with you, Britt.
You see a photo of them, like, you know, Madonna.
Madonna.
Beyonce.
Beyonce.
Sorry, what was your first example?
Mitch.
I was going to say, for example, Mitch, you couldn't use your name.
You couldn't just say Mitch.
You're not there yet.
Oh, thank God we got the clarity.
Anyone else in the car thought she was angling down a Mitch Turi route?
Britney, but you'd be like Britney Spears.
Like there are people that can just have a name
and one of them is global superstar Rihanna.
Yes.
Like absolutely huge.
So recently the funniest thing went down online.
She was at a Manchester City football game, like a soccer game,
and one of the football players there, Jack Grealish, who's huge.
He's one of the best.
You guys wouldn't know that, but he is.
So she's a dig.
I actually love Grealish.
No, because I –
He's my favourite.
If you don't know – if you don't follow in soccer,
you're not going to know who they are, right?
The problem is I don't know who anyone is ever.
Yes.
Do you know Rihanna?
No.
So she's –
She's a set of back.
Couldn't pick her in a line-up.
Rihanna's with some of the biggest players
and she's just hanging out with them.
And then this kid comes up and asks for a photo.
And Rihanna, for a second, I'm assuming, thinks it's probably her,
but he hands Rihanna the phone.
He's got no idea who Rihanna is and he asks Rihanna
to take the photo of him with the football players.
And of course she does.
It's so cute.
But then the internet's gone wild being like half of them is like,
how didn't you know that that was Rihanna?
The other half is blaming Rihanna being like, you know what, fair.
She hasn't released an album in 10 years.
She's been out of, yeah, she has, hasn't she?
She's kind of been out of the, like I guess in the scene.
No.
Or a little bit.
People know Rihanna's got the Fenty beauty.
Yeah, but this kid's like 10 years old.
Yeah, if you're young, you don't know.
because she became a mum and then opened businesses
and she didn't drop music anymore.
Okay, I can relate to this
because I feel like out of the three of us,
I'm the one that never knows who anyone is.
You say a name, I don't know who you're talking about.
This happened to me, it must have been,
I reckon it was probably around 2015.
Like it was a long time ago now,
but I was in my shop at the time
and I was working in my store
and this woman came in and she was buying something.
Is it Tony May?
Yeah, Tony May, jewellery store.
So she came in, she was buying something
and she was from America.
She had a really thick accent and she was like,
do you know what, just wait, I'm going to get my husband
and her husband came in and I was just making chit-chat
to this lovely couple and I was like, oh, what are you here for?
And he was like, oh, I'm here, I'm playing, I'm performing.
And I was like, what do you play?
And he was like, I play the guitar.
And I was like, good for you.
I'd say it was Sting or something.
Well, no, this went on for a little while and he goes,
I said, oh, like, who do you, what do you, what are you playing?
and he goes oh have you have you ever heard of the band Motley Crue and I instantly assumed when he
said Motley Crue I was like oh like a covers band and I was like god it must be really hard to it
must be really hard to make money as a musician you know like that's it's really challenging
his wife kind of laughed a little bit and then this went on for a while anyway bought some jewelry
off they went and at that same time about 15 people came running out to me and they're like
oh my god do you know who that was like yeah he's he's here doing a covers band for Motley Crue
It was Alice Cooper.
You know, you know.
Michael, you don't know who Alice Cooper is?
I don't know who that is.
I, Laura, would not know who that was if he was standing.
No, I know who it is now.
But if he was in my store, I would not know who it is.
Wait, was Alice Cooper the wife?
Alice Cooper.
Okay.
Do you remember like scary movie where they're like, who the F is Alice?
He's like the biggest like shock rock star.
He's like has a career that spans 60 years.
I cannot believe you don't know who he is.
Because he usually wears makeup as well.
This is true.
He does normally wear makeup.
Yeah.
If he walked in now, I would be like, you're familiar, but I wouldn't know.
Laura told us a story about how she had a, who she thinks is an A-list celebrity in her
store, her jewellery store, Tony May.
He was a pretty big celebrity.
Alice Cooper.
I feel like everyone from the older generation who's listening now is going to be like, yeah,
Alice Cooper.
Mitch thought it was a woman.
Mitch was like, is that the wife?
Laura said the wife was there and it was Alice Cooper.
I'm like, Alice and Cooper?
What are you talking about?
Okay, maybe you'll know this one.
This has happened to me a surprising amount of times.
I was walking down a main street and I saw a woman walking towards me
who looked really familiar and I was like,
I'm pretty sure I went to school with her.
Give us the budget version.
And I was like, hey, babe, how are you going?
Nice to see you.
And she looked at me like, who the hell are you?
And it was Natalie Imbruglia.
Oh, I know her.
And I was like, thank God, Mitch, you finally know.
Okay, I'm sorry that it's not like Jojo Siwa or someone.
Oh, shut up.
Oh, what an awkward situation.
Were you torn with what to do next?
Hilarious.
No, but I was all out of faith.
Then this is how I feel.
Well done.
Were you on the floor?
We're getting some calls in here.
We're getting some calls through.
Jessica's called.
Hey, Jessica, did you run into a celebrity and not know who they were?
I was at Byron Bay and I was playing, you know, grip ball?
You like throw the tennis ball with that Velcro.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And hold it.
No, but I can picture it.
It's the funnest game of our childhood.
Yeah.
So good.
Anyway, I was playing with my best friend and we're laughing and having fun.
We're on the beach and this like random guy comes up to us
and starts chatting with us.
And he's like, hey, girls, like, cool game and everything.
And we're like, yeah.
Like, we were running our own business and he kept walking
and these younger girls came up, like, drooling at the mouth.
And we were like, hi.
And they were like, do you know who you were just speaking to?
And we were like, no.
And they were like, oh, that was Matt Damon.
No way.
Matt Damon.
I would have been like, Matt, heads up, let's play grip ball.
Okay, I don't know that.
He would have ran away.
It's not a reference.
I think she's just asking him to play grip ball.
They were playing grip ball.
Sorry, I thought that maybe that was from a movie
that he was in.
Please never say that.
Hey, Matt Damon, want to build a zoo?
No.
Hey, Matt Damon, space.
Hey, Matt Damon, the torture poets are departmental.
Last call, Claire.
Hey, honey, what happened to you?
When did you run into a celebrity that you didn't realise was a star?
Hi, Claire.
Hi.
It was several years ago now,
back when I was a little bit more irresponsible.
But I was drunk as a skunk and I ran into Shannon Knoll
and I was convinced that it wasn't him
and I tried to convince him that he wasn't it either.
You didn't believe him?
Was he like, I'm pretty sure I know who I am?
Yeah, very much so.
Laura, you're looking perfect.
I look complete.
Okay, tell me you know who Shannon Noel is.
Laura.
Don't say you know who Alice Cooper is, Laura,
and you don't know who Shannon Noel is.
She's Australian.
Yes!
Idol.
We're on the same page, right?
He's the guy who came second to Guy Sebastian, right?
Yes, of course.
And he's saying, okay, I do know.
See, Laura, that's how you tell a good story
with a punchline that isn't Alice Cooper.
Yeah.
Well, I'm so sorry, Mitch.
Okay, I was telling a story.
If you'd known who Alice Cooper is,
you would have thought it was a good story.
She's like the oldest person in the world.
I've been telling a story going,
I read into Buzz Aldrin.
Everyone's like, who?
Oh, God.
That's a kitsch.
Sorry.
I can't deal.
Maybe we just have different people.
To be honest, I'm not into Alice Cooper.
I don't know anything about him.
But I know him.
You don't know who Alice Cooper is?
Who's Shannon Knowles?
All right.
Poor Shannon.
What's he doing with himself these days?
Well, hopefully not hearing that.
Clearly at pubs, running around, talking to people.
So excited.
Our guest in the studio today has a brand new album out tomorrow.
She's a bonafide Aussie icon.
She's got a logie.
She's got arias.
She's got everything.
And now she's here on the pick-up.
It's Amy Shah.
Hello.
Hello.
Hey, guys.
Nice to see you, girls.
Amy, I just got feels deep inside listening to that song.
Like, Say Hi and Mess Her Up are absolute anthems for me.
Like, are they probably the song that people talk about the most,
you, out of all the albums that you've done?
Yeah, a lot of people, a lot of chicks really love Mess Her Up.
Mess Her Up.
Oh, I'm screaming in a car, like.
At shows, when you start that song, it's like, it's, I feel like Harry Styles.
The squeals are, like, out of control.
It's actually really overwhelming right now because I've got a tour coming up
and I think about this new album, which is, I mean, obviously fire.
And then I've got the other, obviously fire.
We can say that.
Do you want us to say that?
No, it's fine.
The album is fire.
What was the inspiration behind this album?
Well, albums for me, like I'm always kind of,
and I know this sounds really dicky, but I don't mean it to sound this way,
but I'm usually a bit ahead because, like, they take so long to make.
So when I was making Cry Forever, it got signed off
and then there's months and months and months like and if I stop writing then what am I doing
so I I keep writing and then by the time an album comes around it's like I've got all these songs
to choose from like which is the strongest demo and then I'll take them into the studio and see
what happens so um with this one though I spend a lot of time seeing the whole album as like a body
of work like the lot especially the first album I was just throwing shit at the wall going I don't
know what I'm doing I don't know who I am I like here's a bunch of songs and let's hope for the
best whereas by album three i kind of i kind of sort of know what i'm doing i would like to think
and um yeah i could sort of look at all the songs about okay this makes sense and this makes for a
really awesome body of work start to finish so historically speaking are you particularly sad
on a sunday like where we were thinking where does the name come i mean aren't you i mean i
just like i it yeah it firstly thinking of titles for albums suck you ask any artist it sucks you
like everything cool is taken you want something strong and memorable and sundays did turn into a
day where i was like instead of sitting with my feelings and memories of the past i'm just going
to work on this album and and finish a bunch of songs and so it just turned out to be a bit of a
ritual and another thing that made sundays better for me was um just pasta and and wine so that's
why the cover is the cover um i wonder i'm like wow amy's italian roots are really coming out
Yeah, I know.
I wish.
When you're writing music though, you say you look at it like a body of work,
but are you writing songs that are purely from your own experience
or do you go, okay, I'm, you know, happy, I'm in a great place in life right now,
but I know that someone's going to really relate to a breakup song
or I've been broken up with before so you pull on like a past memory
or a past circumstance?
I like never plan what I write.
I just always sit with and try and think of some cool guitar riff or whatever
and then I've had such a colourful life.
Like there's so many things to choose from.
yeah so I usually just let my subconscious go nuts and um family hasn't always been the greatest
and friends have fallen apart and I feel like I've kind of that's that's uh my skill set is like
I'm you know I'm not I'm not so young so it's always exciting for me to to just start a song
from scratch and be like what's still obviously bothering me half the time I still learn what's
still like it's really yeah it really is so um so yeah there's no method to it i everything's
obviously very autobiographical it's always about me i can't read a book i've seen artists like i
read this book and i this character really connect i don't know i just don't work like that you have
now officially completed the blink trifecta like you have collaborated with all three members of
blink 182 did you grow up with an inspiration from blink 182 like what is where did that come
from of trying to bring them all into each album I mean they're my all-time favorite band and I
think because they were like you know when you graduate from like Spice Girls and Hanson and
you're like oh wow there's this cool other side to music in this alternative world that you learn
about and Blink was that for me and and they weren't just a one-off like they had song after
song and hit after hit and tom you know tom's voice wasn't perfect you know it was really weird
and it was it stood out and he was unapologetically himself so i learned a lot from that band to just
like just go for it just like believe in yourself and tell stories and and that if it's okay if you
don't sound like mariah carey or beyonce um so yeah that means a lot yeah yeah well that's on
the album track 10 my only friend so if you want to give that a listen album out tomorrow amy shark
is here it's time for this everyone we've got a bunch of headlines here in studio written about
our guest today amy shark welcome to the show amy oh thanks for having me um some are real some are
fake some we've written we've made up um our team behind the scenes have written these yeah some are
real a very very extensive team we do have one producer um so first one off the bat amy shark
Bears All, the real reason behind her marine-based surname
and you'll never believe the incident that inspired it.
It sounds like it could be real.
What?
Is it?
It's real.
Yeah.
What's the incident behind Shark?
I don't know, but people do write whatever the hell they want.
So, yeah.
So, is your surname really Shark or not?
It's not.
No, it's not.
I'm just trying to get her to explain it.
Yeah.
look it's um no i just watched jaws really really when i was really young and it really affected me
but it's unusual to be so traumatized by something you're like how will i get over this i'll put it
in my name the start of that movie the screams yeah it's scary yeah i mean the best thing about
i don't want to go on about this movie but it's so brilliant because you don't really see the shark
until like i don't know like probably 40 minutes into the movie like it's so crazy how they build
this tension and suspense.
Do you think about sharks every time you go
swimming now? You get in the water and you're like
We all do that, right? Even I think of sharks.
I do. Even in the pool.
At night. I'm like, did
someone put one in here?
That's a you thing.
Alright, next one.
Amy Shark reveals the sad reason she
is no longer wearing her wedding ring
after keeping marriage to husband Shane Billings
very private. Yeah, it's
over, guys. No!
Imagine. Imagine.
Exclusive things for that.
Yeah, right here.
That's what you'll use.
That's the headline that's going to come now too.
No, yeah, that's true.
That's true.
It actually just got stolen from a hotel.
So from like the safe?
No, so I remember where I was at and I'm trying not to out this hotel
because, you know, they've been good to me since.
You hope so.
But I had a very big show that I was playing and I remember it
Because I remember having a shower and I put it in the little dish thing
because I can't wear it when I play guitar because it was decent rock
so it spun around a bit.
So I put it in this dish thing and then I was leaving to go overseas
the next day and it was nowhere.
But my necklace was still there.
So I was kind of like, maybe Shane picked it up.
Maybe I'll look for it in a second.
It was gone.
Yeah, it was gone.
I mean, look, it was Shane's idea when I first got signed.
He's like, you know, you should take your wedding ring off.
You know, it'll help.
So he's okay.
He knows it's okay.
All right, last headline.
Amy Shark, real or fake?
Amy Shark on the best investment she's ever made
and all it took was one night in Vegas and a briefcase of cash.
No, that's fake.
That's fake.
Shane.
I was hoping there was a story there.
Same.
All right, well, at least you can turn it into some good old-fashioned music.
Amy's brand new album, Sunday Sadness, officially out tomorrow.
Give it a stream.
We love you, Amy.
Thanks, Amy.
This has been so fun.
Thank you for saying that.
Come any time.
Really.
Because not everyone does.
We'll see you all soon.
See you, Amy.
Bye.
Bye.
Bye, guys.
How has everyone's week been?
Mish and Laura, you had a great week?
I had a good week.
Mine was good.
You had all right?
Yeah.
I had the most awkward end to the week today.
Before my coffee this morning, and it's kind of rattled me,
I bought my coffee.
I was with my partner, Stephen, and we actually were getting juices.
It wasn't even a coffee.
It was like two $8 juices.
Is that information absolutely critical?
Yeah, it is.
Thank you.
Yeah, it is.
$8.
Well, because it's expensive.
$16 for two juices.
And we're getting a juice.
We went for a walk this morning and I go to Stephen, I'll pay.
He goes, no, let me pay.
I'm like, no, let me pay.
You know, like new relationship.
We're like, I'll still pay.
You pay.
Because a couple of years in, you're like, you pay.
You're 100%.
But now we're kind of like, let me pay for you.
It's kind of an act of love.
So we're both kind of, you know, fighting over our phones.
And then out of nowhere, no, I'll pay.
This man behind us pulls out his Apple Pay and pays for our two juices.
Oh.
That's really sweet.
Why did that rattle you?
Well, I just went, thank you.
It just was so awkward.
Why is that awkward?
He's not hitting on you, Mitch.
No, I know he's not hitting on me.
Well, he actually said it was beautiful to see a young couple.
He did say that.
But then I went, oh, I just didn't know what to do.
I went, oh, thank you, mate.
He went, no worries.
I went, I did not know what to do with myself.
What you do is pay it forward.
This is a thing.
Like when someone does something nice for you and buys you a coffee
or whatever it is, you pay it forward and you have to buy the next nut.
No, I hate that stuff.
I hate that stuff.
The reason why Mitch is confused is because you might remember the time
where Mitch accidentally paid for someone's, like we were all out together
and Mitch accidentally paid for someone's meal and then asked for a refund.
Yeah.
The meal was like one sandwich.
So, Mitch, I am telling you I'm actually disappointed
at your attitude towards this because I'm a big pay-it-forward person
and the fact that you also asked for a refund
when you accidentally paid for someone.
No, what happened was I thought to myself,
because Stephen was like,
you need to now pay for the lady behind us.
Yeah, that's exactly what you do.
Yeah, yeah, it's a chain, some dumb Ellen thing.
So I turn around and she had a grocery full of what?
A trolley.
You didn't know how to pay for hers,
but the next person that comes through
with slightly less things in their trolley.
I've got places to be.
I'm not standing there until there's a $16...
No, no, it's not pay-it-forward like a chain event
where it has to be the person behind you.
It's just like the next time that you feel like there's an opportunity.
Okay, stop.
This is what we're going to do.
We're going to go to a break now.
You are going to go downstairs.
There's a cafe downstairs.
And you are going to pay it forward now.
Live on air, I want you to go down.
We don't have the...
Yes, we do.
We're going downstairs and getting a coffee.
Mitch will pay for it.
Whoever's downstairs and actually, you know what?
I'm doubling down.
You're going to buy them a coffee and a croissant.
Yes, you are.
You can't make me do that.
Can you buy me one as well?
No, stop.
Please.
Wait, wait, wait.
You have to tell them you're paying it forward.
Can we do this?
So I'm going to go down.
We've got a couple songs.
Yeah.
And what?
It's going to be so awkward.
Hey.
No, it's not.
Surprise.
Hey, you say, hey, I'm paying it forward.
I've got this.
I'm going to pay for your treat.
You know, you just say this one's on me and then smile at them and hold eye contact.
So we're what?
We're throwing the whole show out the window.
Yeah.
We're doing it live on air because you've got to learn to pay it forward.
I press the buttons here.
You don't even know how it works.
I feel like you better be back before three songs are up.
No, I know how to press a button.
You only press go and stop.
You're not wrong.
We have sent Mitch on a little mission, a pay it forward mission.
Mitch has never heard of the idea of pay it forward and somebody –
Well, I think he has.
I think he's just a bit of a tie to us.
Sorry, Mitch.
Probably.
I'm here on the line.
I can hear everything you're saying.
Can I just point out that my phone call works?
No, what we've done live on air is send Mitch downstairs to a cafe
and we're going to make him buy someone a coffee and a croissant
and say that he's just being kind and paying it forward.
So, Mitch, where are you?
What do you see?
Hi, girls.
I'm just actually at the reception.
I'm not at the cafe yet.
I'm just – I'm walking up to it.
So I'll be there in a sec.
The reason why we're doing this is because Mitch was just saying
that somebody very kindly, generously, with all their heart today,
shouted Mitch two juices at the cafe.
Guys, shut up.
There's an old woman.
Stop.
There's an old woman.
And he continued to talk about how weird that was.
I'm in the cafe.
Okay, Mitch.
How are you?
Hi.
Okay, I'm behind the old man.
Okay.
He's ordering a skim latte.
I'm behind him.
I'm really close.
Okay, you can throw in a treat.
Get his coffee and throw in a treat.
Okay.
Oh, my God.
He's just getting two coffees.
Sorry.
Get him a croissant as well.
So awkward.
I'm breathing down his neck.
That's okay.
You don't have to surprise him.
Just tell him.
Tap him on the shoulder and tell him this one's on you.
Excuse me, sir.
I'd like to pay for this for you.
I'd just like to pay it forward.
I believe in good karma and I'd like to pay for your coffee for you.
Well, I'm wanting a coffee.
Oh, what did you have?
About a three-course meal and...
Oh, shit, he ordered a toasty as well.
Can I do a refund, please, Matt?
You're paying for it all.
Midge.
Get the toasty, Midge.
We're on the pick-up.
We're in a radio station upstairs.
I've just paid for your coffee.
Oh, aren't you marvellous?
Have a good day.
Yeah, thank you very much.
These are my co-hosts.
Yeah, you've made my day.
Oh, you're so welcome.
What's your name?
I've done it.
What's your name?
What's your name?
Michael.
You're on the pick up with Brittany and Laura.
Michael, has anyone ever paid it forward for you before?
No, no, but it's a pleasant delight that that's occurred
and I'd encourage others to do it.
Oh, thank you.
That's amazing.
That's exactly what we wanted from this situation.
Wait, Michael, can I ask, what did you actually order?
It could have been $100.
Look, it's probably about $300, but it's all right.
It's all right for you.
And just a ham and cheese toast.
It's all right.
You won't be bankrupt over it.
Oh, good, good.
Well, have a great day, Michael.
I think now you have to do it to someone else.
That's how this works.
No worries.
It's not the idea.
Thank you, Michael.
Have a good day.
Thank you.
Mitch, if you wouldn't mind bringing us up some coffees on your way up too,
that'd be great.
I'm bankrupt.
Screw you guys.
I'm going home.
That's the sweetest thing ever.
Oh, poor Michael.
All right.
That was beautiful.
Get back up.
All right, I'm coming back here.
Does anyone want anything?
Yeah, coffees.
Coffees for everyone and also croissant as well.
Take your mind back, Britt and Laura, to last week when, Laura,
you told us a story.
You went to visit a friend's house that was under construction.
They very kindly let you look through the home.
Your husband, Matty J, who we love, did a poo in the toilet.
You realised that the plumbing was disconnected,
so it was a dry turd in a non-functioning toilet.
But I'm wondering why we're talking about it again.
Well, you would have thought that we talked about it enough,
but apparently not.
So that night I made Matt call our friends.
I also then, our friends were like, okay, well, he needs to email the builder because
they were like horrified that maybe the builder would think that they'd done the poo in the
toilet.
And so I was sitting across from him.
Matt was writing an email to the builder to apologize for doing a stinking turd and not
being able to flush it.
Now, the very next day after telling it on radio and all of us having a little laugh
and being like, ha ha ha, my silly husband, Matt called me and he had this to tell me.
Okay.
Okay, so, um, you know how you wanted me to message them to let them know that I did the
poo in the toilet?
Don't you f***ing dare tell me that you did a story saying I did the s***.
I did not do that.
I messaged them and I said that I'm sorry my wife unfortunately used the bathroom.
You did not.
Yeah, I did.
But the good news is that they say it's fine.
It's not a problem.
They can turn the water back on and they'll flush it.
You're so mean.
That's pretty funny.
I am so off it.
I am so unbelievably off it.
Oh, come on.
Give it a break.
That's funny.
You are known for your shocking bowel movements.
You talk about them.
I know I am and I know I do,
but I will not be accused of being the one to have done that absolute horror.
Well, I wanted you to confront him live on air,
so joining us now, Australian sweetheart, ex-bachelor,
Maddie J joins us.
Welcome to the show, Matt.
Good prank, Maddie.
Good prank.
I hate you.
Thank you.
Thank you, guys.
Some of my best work, I must say.
Well played, pal.
Well played.
Just to clarify, was it actually a prank and you didn't blame it on Laura
or did you blame it on Laura and then realise you're in trouble
so said it was a prank?
Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
I said it was Laura and I'm copying any repercussions on the chin.
Is this worth it?
I'm definitely not going to, like, go back now on my claims
to old Keith the Builder.
What did the Builder say?
I am so embarrassed.
No, Laura, what was the response, Matt?
Were you like, it's Laura from The Pickup?
Well, everyone knows that you have to supervise children,
especially when you're giving them punishment.
And I'm no different.
And whilst I was writing that email, Laura got distracted.
She looked elsewhere.
So then I thought to myself, stuff it.
I'm not going to accept fault here.
And I said, dear Keith, it's Matt Johnson here.
You may know me from The Bachelor.
Recently, my wife, Laura, who you may know from a radio show called The Pickup,
We're at the renovations.
Must say, the house is looking fantastic.
Impressive work.
There just happens to be a small chance that Laura and myself
had a lovely lunch of Mexican burritos, extra spicy,
followed by a coffee.
There's a very small chance my wife then went to the downstairs toilet
to relieve herself of an enormous poo.
Unfortunately, after the poo was taken,
we realized that the plumbing was turned off.
Look, Keith, I'd like to apologize on behalf of my wife
She's not normally like this.
Keep up the great work.
Much love, Maddie J.
That is incredible.
Well, you do know how to construct an email.
I'll give you that.
What did he write back?
Did you hear anything?
He said, really appreciate the update.
I'll let the guys know.
We would have gotten away with this.
We didn't have to tell anyone.
No one would have known.
Some poor apprentice would have gotten fired.
It wouldn't have been on us.
It was fine.
You're the one.
Your honesty has gotten you into trouble, so this is on you.
Yeah.
Part of me, like, is, like, dirty about it,
but the other part of me thinks, like, well done.
Because I would have done the same.
Definitely are dirty.
I can't wait until we're invited on the block.
Thanks, Maddie.
