Life Uncut podcast acknowledges the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia
and their connections to land, sea and community.
We pay our respect to their elders, past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
This episode is recorded on Gadigal land of the Aurora Nation.
Hi guys, and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut.
I'm Laura.
I'm Brittany and this is our radio show where we package up the best of the week
and we bring it to you in one little cute little tidy radio podcast gift.
Oh, you know who's missing today?
Mitch Durie.
Oh, R.I.P. Mitch.
Should we give him a moment of silence?
We miss him.
Yeah, he's also, he's still alive, but he's got COVID.
He hasn't passed away.
He's got COVID.
He's at home.
He's very crook.
To be fair, he does look like death warmed up.
So, I mean, the poor guy.
But look, COVID took us down.
It was Keisha.
Then it was me.
Then it was Mitch.
and we really shouldn't have had that threesome on the live tour,
but we did it.
And, Brit, I'm so sorry that you got left out.
You didn't invite me to the threesome?
No.
Do you know what?
We just knew that you would be busy and we thought we could just.
Busy with what?
What would I be doing?
I'm the least busy out of every person.
You were too busy FaceTiming Ben and we didn't want to disrupt you,
so we just, you know, got it on ourselves.
No, believe it or not, Ben doesn't love when I have threesomes,
especially with, like, work colleagues.
Yeah, with your employee and your gay co-host.
Do you know what I thought was funny, though?
So we FaceTimed Mitch yesterday and he does look like the most unwell I've ever seen him.
But what I was impressed was that his hair was like still immaculate.
It was still, it was still quiffed, quaffed.
What's that?
It's a quiff.
Quiff.
Yeah.
Like a vaginal quiff.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like my vaginal quiffs.
Thanks.
Thanks so much for that, Britt.
Let's just scrap that.
His hair was amazing and immaculate.
It had a lot of volume.
He still had managed to do his hair even though he was on death's door.
And I love that about me.
Yeah.
So look, he was missing from the radio show this week.
so you will miss his beautiful, soothing voice.
How did I actually not get it?
Because the four of us were together every second of the day.
I don't know, but I really think that we should take your blood
and test it now.
I feel like maybe you have the antibodies that we all need inside you.
Yeah, I'm like Superwoman.
But that's because I've had it.
I think that's because I've had it twice.
Too many times.
Yeah, maybe even three times.
All right, well, look, this radio show this week
was a truly family-orientated affair.
Matt and Ash Wicks, who, I mean, you guys might know,
you might not know.
Matt's my husband.
Matt, I know you know who Matt is, but Ash is Matt's co-host on his podcast that he does,
which is Two Doting Dads.
And they came in to talk about Movember because currently Matt has the thickest, dirtiest
mustache on his face at the moment, like a big brown slug, but it is all for a very good
cause.
So they were talking about Movember and the reasons why they're getting behind it.
It's also an interesting chat because on a technicality, Matt cheats because he has to
get a run up to his mustache, like a warm up.
He has to start growing it a week.
It starts in October, Matt's moustache, and he has to grow it into November.
No, his moustache started in like February.
January.
He works all year for this moment, like in time.
Every November it comes out and he's all about it.
But also I think it's really nice because Ash, if you guys do know him,
he is always the jokey-jokey, everything's fine, very sarcastic person,
like in their little co-hosting dynamic.
But something that a lot of people wouldn't know is that Ash has dealt
a lot with depression and his own mental health battles so that's why getting behind Movember's
been so important for him did you read um I don't know if you saw but there's like a
tiktok doctor that's going viral for talking about um how much bacteria is carried in a mustache and
so like when you make out with someone with a big mo it has the ability to be extremely dangerous
firstly it's not extremely dangerous this is what they said this is what the tiktok doctor said it's
So stupid.
But a sharp moustache.
You know how sometimes you make out with people?
Like, you know when you're younger and you make out for hours?
It's prickly.
Hash rash.
Producer Tony over there is like, yeah, I know.
The hash rash.
And it, like, literally you get, like, actually, I think I got it.
I did.
I got it when I met Ben.
We just hashed all the time.
And I got, like, really dry, scaly skin around my mouth.
Anyway, this TikTok doctor has said that if it's a scratchy little moustache
and sharp, it can actually, like, open tiny little wounds on your skin
and then the moustache carries bacteria from wherever it's been
on its adventures of the day and then the bacteria goes into your cut
and you can get a mouth infection.
That is the fucking dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Also, it sounds like-
It's true.
It's tick-tock-tock-tock.
Nah, free microneedling.
Sounds good.
It gets rid of all the fine lines around your mouth.
Okay, to be fair, this is weird daddy issues.
I think Matt is so sexy with a moustache but it weeds me out
because growing up my dad had a really thick moustache.
I love moustaches too.
Do you?
Okay, right.
Yeah, don't make me say his name.
I'm thinking my ex.
The man who shall never be named and his thick, dirty mustache.
He was only known for his visage.
Yes.
But then I think every so often I look at Matt and then I'm like,
fuck, my dad had one of those.
Why do I find this arousing?
Yeah, but your dad also has hair.
Matt has hair.
Your dad has skin.
Actually, my dad does not have hair.
He is very bald.
He is extremely bald.
You know what I mean.
Okay, let's move on.
You're attracted to your dad.
Got it.
Okay.
So we do cover a lot of-
Tammy Byrne.
We do also cover a lot of-
Family affair.
No, we talk about, Laura and I, we actually get pretty heated in this.
We have a discussion.
Sometimes we don't agree.
It doesn't happen often.
Very rare.
We're having a discussion today about birth tourism.
It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Brilliant.
Do it.
Okay, that's all we need to say.
Listen to the episode.
All right, let's get into the show.
There is a new show that is coming to Down Under.
Now, it is one that I am very excited about.
It's one that I feel personally attached to.
It's one that you, Brittany Hockley, should feel personally attached to as well.
What are we talking about here?
Oh, it is not just The Bachelor, but it is The Golden Bachelor.
Now, if you haven't heard of The Golden Bachelor,
it's currently a series that's running in the States at the moment.
They have a beautiful man named Jerry.
He's 72 years old.
He's very sexy, which kind of sounds weird to say,
but he really, really is.
Here's a little listen to what The Golden Bachelor is like.
He doesn't have grey hair.
He has wisdom highlights.
Florida wants to retire and move to him.
He's Gary.
And I'm your first golden bachelor.
Wow.
Wow.
I actually am so here for this show.
I think it's the most beautiful thing that has come onto TV
in a very long time.
I love it so much.
I can't even describe to you how much I love it.
I have tingles.
They've started to cast in Australia.
So I saw this posted on Instagram the other day, Warner Brothers.
They're seeking single seniors at the moment.
So they're not just, I think at the moment they're just casting
for the main character, like the main male bachelor,
over 60 years old, someone in Australia, you know,
who's single and looking for love.
It just has to be that little bit older.
Do you know who would be perfect?
Your mother-in-law, Matt's mum, Ellie.
I mean, as a contestant, I don't think she can be the man.
No, but she could be the golden bachelorette
or she could be a contestant on the golden bachelorette.
She is, oh, my God, Ellie is perfect.
A, she's single.
B, she is so funny and she's so outgoing and she's so hot.
But I almost think she's too good to start dating now.
Like, no man deserves her.
Do you think she would do it if we asked her?
All right, let's go on.
No, she's not dated in a really long time, so I don't know.
I don't know what she would...
No, I don't think so.
Okay, I'm going to ask her.
All right.
All right, let's call her.
You can call her up.
You've got a number.
Okay.
What have you got cooking now?
Do you just know that every time we call you that something ridiculous is going to happen?
There's always something up.
Okay, now...
She just straight away goes, what have you got?
What are you doing?
Because I would never answer the phone as it's Britt and Laura from The Pickup.
Nana.
Ellie, dearest Johnson, I know.
The answer is no.
No, no, it doesn't mean.
I don't like it.
She's not coming to babysit.
What are you asking?
Okay.
I know that you have been single for a while.
And I know that you are happy in being single.
But.
Correct.
You know that The Bachelor worked very, very well for Matt and I.
Must be nice.
It turned out great.
You know, you've got grandchildren out of it.
We've got this happy household.
And I would love for you to have that happiness as well.
They're currently casting for the new cast of The Golden Bachelor.
And Britt and I both think that you might be perfect.
It's essentially The Bachelor for 60 plus.
And we think you're just like such a catch.
Do you think that that's something that you'd do?
Do you really want to see 60-year-old people getting intimate?
We don't want to see the sexy time, but we want to see the dates
and the passions and the love.
Yeah, we want to see that.
Do you know what?
60-year-olds, 70-year-olds, you guys need love too.
I want to watch it.
I want to see the happy ever afters.
When you say 70-year-old, in my head I think,
what do I want with a 70-year-old?
Oh, I'm 71.
Ellie, he actually could be 60.
Criteria is 60 plus.
I know, I'm not into a toy boy.
No, but you guys, you haven't seen Ellie.
Ellie, like, you say you're 71, you look like you're 50.
Look, this isn't real, is it?
You're not really trying to convince me to do this.
No, we actually are, yes.
I just think if it all ends flat, you could end up being, you know,
like a Nana Influencer online as well,
because you'll end up racking up all the followers.
A Nana Influencer.
A Nana Influencer.
Girls, girls, can I just tell you that at this time of my life,
I am having a ball.
Oh, sorry, I don't need two more.
I couldn't think of anything worse.
Do you know what it reminds me of?
Do you remember Sex and the City when Samantha dated this rich,
quite a handsome older guy?
Yes.
And they were going into the bedroom and she thought,
look, in the dark, it doesn't matter.
but he put the light on
and as he walked to the bathroom
Samantha saw his wizened little bottom
and she raced out of there
I can't do this
I'm on your side here
not all of us had success stories
we didn't all have the happy ending on The Bachelor
some of us got dumped
and now I have thought about it more
I reconsider
I can't put Ellie in that position
no do you know what Ellie
I love how independent you are
and how much you prioritise
all the other love that you have in your life
I don't need any more, and I know that sounds corny.
However, if you want to send some photos through, I'll have a look.
Okay, we'll get you on Tinder then.
But also, I'm very happy to know that you're not going to be bringing boyfriends home to the house.
All right, well, I've got a new idea.
We love you, Ellie.
Thanks, Ellie.
Love you too, girls.
If our casting are listening, I think Laura and I could be the new casting loungers for The Golden Bachelor.
One of our favourite segments, Ask Uncut.
We do it on our podcast, Life Uncut, every single week.
It's where you guys write in or call in with your deepest, darkest,
burning questions, and we do our best to answer them.
And we have Denny that has called in today.
Hi, Denny.
Denny.
Hello.
Hi.
We hear you have the ick.
What is going down?
Oh, so I met this really, really lovely guy, and we went on a date.
There's a few things that he's been doing that have just kind of freaked
me out a little bit but he's perfect in every other way are we talking like socks and sandals
or what are we talking so he kind of regresses in age a little bit and gets very giggly
I was not expecting you to say that Denny that laugh honestly as soon as it gets to
cutesy things he giggles um but it's mainly when things start getting a bit more heated he growls
I'm sorry, what?
He does what?
He, like, purrs and growls.
I need a demonstration of what you're talking about.
What do you mean by he growls?
He just kind of looks at me and goes, growl.
I have the ick for you, Denny.
That's yuck.
Do the growls, hang on, Denny.
I love this so much.
Do the growls, like, change in intensity or the way?
Does the purr turn to a growl?
What are some of the other options?
He does the brrrr.
Oh, Demi.
And then does the sexy biting the air.
I feel like this is a joke.
It sounds like this is something he would do to be satirical.
Or is this actually something he's doing because he thinks that this is flirting?
Dead serious.
And it's a complete switch in everything.
He's not like that in his personality.
and then as soon as it gets to that kind of point of the night.
Do you feel like it's something that you can either accept
and push past or do you feel like you need to have the conversation?
Like is there something that you can't possibly ever continue
in the relationship with?
I can't get into that zone when he does that.
I can't.
How do you deal with that?
All I'm thinking here is, Britt, put yourself into that situation.
Imagine if that was you.
Look at me.
I've recoiled in my seat.
Dani, you can't see me, but I'm in like a tiny little ball
and I feel viscerally ill.
She's in the fetal position.
But honestly, like imagine being in that moment where you're like,
you know, you're lovingly looking at your partner
and then they growl at you and how repulsed you would instantly feel.
Okay, my question is how long have you been dating for
and do you feel confident enough that you could have a conversation
with him and tell him that it's not getting you going?
We've seen each other quite a few times
and every time I've kind of avoided that part of the evening.
Okay, I've got to stop you here, Dani.
If you are only just early dating and you are already avoiding any intimacy
or private time or alone time because you're like,
oh, left my nan in the car, better go, right,
when it comes to the crunch time, then you've got to break up.
Like you cannot be in a relationship with someone with the ick
because I think once the ick has come, you can't really move past it.
I agree.
I so agree.
But also I do think, Dani,
it's almost worth at least saying something to him first.
I don't think you have to throw everything away
without just trying to broach the topic
that maybe the growling should be not growling.
Just make sure you approach it perfectly.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
Good luck.
Good luck, Jenny.
We hope that everything turns out all right.
I mean, dating's hard these days.
Pray for me.
now i don't know if you have seen this but this is an article that tickled my fancy it's going
viral online at the moment and it is causing a lot of controversy but i can't understand why
so there is an aussie self-proclaimed wellness influencer her name is shannon mckayla and she has
posted a how-to guide about moving countries and giving birth in another country so that you
can get dual citizenship for your child.
Now, before I get your opinion, Laura,
just have a listen to what she has to say.
We flew from Australia to Costa Rica to give birth
and get our child an extra passport.
There are around 30 countries currently across the globe
that offer birthright citizenship,
which means that when you give birth in these countries,
your child becomes a citizen there
and you as the parents are granted permanent residency
with a pathway to citizenship.
The most common way to get permanent residency status
in another country is typically through investment programs,
which can cost upwards of $100,000 per applicant.
Or you can choose to give birth there and immigrate
for just a fraction of the cost.
Oh, come on.
Now she's being semi-slammed online by people.
People are calling it like new age colonialism, an anchor quote.
This is essentially anchor baby instructions for rich people.
What is this immigration influencer?
Like this is so silly.
What is the problem, Laura?
Tell me the problem.
No, I don't have an overarchingly do whatever you want to,
but being an influencer and trying to do a how-to for people
to have babies in other countries so that you can get a passport.
Brilliant.
No, I feel like it seems really negligible.
What?
Negligible?
Yeah, in terms of like why, like I mean.
You mean negligent?
Negligent.
Sorry, not negligible.
Oh, my God.
Okay.
I'm so angry.
It's negligent.
No, negligent in that, okay, for one,
are people now going to have babies with the intention
that it's going to get them some sort of dual citizenship
or are you doing this as it's opportunistic?
Do you know what I mean?
Are you only doing it because you're already pregnant
that you're then going to fly overseas?
What's the problem with getting your baby a dual citizenship though?
I mean, I think it seems privileged.
I think it's fine.
Oh, my God.
I do not see a problem with it.
And the reason I say that is, A, it's probably something I would do.
Of course it's privileged, Laura.
It would not be something you would do.
Yes, it is.
You're going to fly to Costa Rica and have a baby over there.
No, I'm not saying I'm going to do that.
if I if Ben lived somewhere that I and I had the opportunity to either have a baby there and it
gets dual citizenship or have a baby here my partner Ben I would have it where the baby is
going to have more opportunity the baby's going to have more opportunity with dual citizenship
now the reason I don't think this is a problem is you say it's so privileged of course it is but
that's not what the debate is the debate isn't around privilege or not and I don't think we
throw privilege into every conversation we ever have in society yeah cool she's privileged but
she's also contributing to their economy.
She works over there.
She lives and works, but she chose that place
so that she could have dual citizenship for her baby.
So I think it's fine.
She's contributing to society.
What's the problem?
Yeah, but she might be contributing, but that's not what she's selling.
She's selling online for people to fly into other countries,
have babies there, and she's giving them the how-to guide on how to do it,
which I think is abusing the system, and it is privilege,
and it's not putting what's best for the kid
or for a mother's own health and well-being during a pregnancy journey.
It's just putting down the citizenship is the most important thing out of it
and I think that that's crazy.
How is it not looking after – how is it not putting the kids' health first?
Because, I mean, if you've had a child, you know that you go through
this like structured system in terms of like healthcare within Australia, right?
You have like all of these allocated appointments.
You are within the safety net of either being under the midwifery program
or you're within like a birthing program.
And so you have these regular checks with regular doctors
so that you have the continuity of care.
If you're going to fly to Costa Rica in your third trimester
to have a baby, try and tell me that that's not going to put
that baby at any risk at all.
I think it is crazy and I think it is selfish
and I think it's really dangerous to talk this on social media
as though it's a plan.
Yeah, I disagree.
I 100% disagree because I think people are misunderstanding
what she's doing.
She's not flying in a day before birthing the child
and flying home.
That's not what this is.
All she's trying to do is bring awareness to the fact.
And if these countries didn't want you to be able
to have this dual citizenship, they wouldn't have it as a law.
It would not be an option.
But it is an option.
Why is it an option?
Because it's okay.
Why?
Because more people are going to come over
and probably contribute to their economy,
which most likely is semi-struggling.
Okay.
Well, it does say here that it's considered a tax haven
to do these things.
So I do think it's financially beneficial
and maybe there's some other incentives there.
Rather than what might be best.
Good, good on her.
She's helping people save money and get their kid dual
sistership.
Oh, gosh.
I feel like we shouldn't be taking advice from influencers.
You are one.
You might remember earlier in the week we were talking
about revenge, the ultimate revenge.
There's this story that actually just had me floored.
So this guy over in America, to get back at his ex,
bought a car for $600, like a super cheapo budget car,
parked it illegally in an airport car park
because he actually worked at the airport.
So this is doubly sneaky.
And then for three years, he let it rack up parking fines
to the value of $100,000.
Britt, I can't tell you how much I love this story.
I mean, firstly, I don't understand how she never found out,
like how it took so long.
It feels like the most long-term petty grudge
to continue to have against your ex.
But it's also what on earth did she do to you that you want
to cost her $100,000?
People don't have $100,000 lying around.
This isn't like, ha-ha, I throw poo on your car because you dumped me
or you cheated on me.
$100,000 literally will change your life.
Yes, but maybe she, okay, hear it out.
Maybe he's not the bad guy.
Maybe she really did do something.
Oh, please.
Maybe she did do something that made this worthwhile because this is
such a long-term grudge that if you're going to continue it
for three years, you have been scorned.
scorned well we asked you guys because laura apparently gets very excited by people's revenge
i think it's great i think it's hilarious we asked you to write into the pickup with your
revenge stories because from our friends at chemist warehouse we have a 500 chemist warehouse
voucher to give to you to to what we decide is the best number one revenge that you have done
so we've got a couple of absolute bangers in here i don't know if we can call them bangers
look but there's some questionable some questionable actions that you guys have
done katrina's on the phone katrina how you going good okay what did you do to get revenge well my
boyfriend loved his playstation games so i got each of them and rubbed them on the concrete so
then they'd be all scratched when you go back to play them do you know what i want to say this
that's childish but so a playstation game so it's okay but they're also playstation games are super
expensive are they not a hundred thousand dollars expensive but they're super expensive yeah also
the disappointment. That's right. Thanks for that, Katrina.
Emanuela. Emanuela, let us
know, what did you do? What was the pettiest grudge that
you've ever played out on someone?
Oh, so I used to work security
at a pub and there was
VIP car parks only for
VIP people. So this one
chick, she came in and she parked there
and I asked her, is she going into the pub for the
VIP? She said yes. So I let her
park there. She went into the pub
and then exited out of the other entrance
and like sneaked around the corner to go to
the shops. So I got the cheers
so I reversed my car closer to hers.
My boyfriend at the time had come past to say hi
so I got his car and parked it on the other side of her
so she couldn't get into her car.
I mean, I'm going to call it a bit excessive, Emanuela.
It's so petty.
I'm very petty.
It probably puts you guys out longer than anyone else
because then you were like,
well, now I've got to commit till she gets back.
The boyfriend's got to park there.
You've got to park there.
What did she do when she came back?
My boyfriend's like, just grow up.
And I'm like, no.
I asked her and she lied to me
But this is what she gets
Oh my god that is petty
Claire bring it home
What's the pettiest thing you've done
Hey Claire what is the pettiest thing you have done
So mine was really bad
It was to my brother but he kind of deserved it
He's like the messiest guy
And he's so hairy
That in the shower he used to leave his hair
Like on the soap like just in everything
And it was absolutely disgusting
So one day I just had enough
I was sick of it.
So in his soap container, I put in some of my, like,
Nair hair removal cream.
Oh.
And luckily he didn't put it on his head,
which is still, like, his, like, all over his body.
But he literally went, like, no hair on his legs,
like, anywhere on his arms.
And it was the best revenge ever.
And ever since, the bathroom has been so nice and clean.
Claire, what if he put that on his head as, like, shampoo, though,
and went bald?
Fine.
He had, like, a different shampoo.
I was, like, pretty safe that I thought he would just use it on his body.
Thank God.
Claire, do you know what you can buy with your $500 Chemist Warehouse voucher
that you have just won is some new hair removal nares.
Sounds like you need it.
Oh, my God, you're evil.
I can't believe you, but you enjoy.
Thank you so much.
You're so welcome.
I love these petty revenges.
You know, no long-term harm is caused,
and I think that every so often you need to feel like you've gotten one back on people.
No long-term harm?
What about $100,000 fine?
Okay, that one went a little bit far.
All right, Britt, you might have seen some luscious mustaches
walking around at the moment,
and that is because we're in the month of Movember.
And for anyone who doesn't know, Movember is our time to unite,
to take on mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer
and testicular cancer and raise awareness for that.
Now, we have two exceptionally luscious mustaches
here in the studio today.
And believe it or not, it is not mine.
And look, I mean, I do all right on a day as well,
but we have my husband, Matty J,
who has been sporting one for the last few days.
And we also have Ash Wicks,
and they are from the podcast Two Doting Dads,
and they are the ambassadors for Movember this year.
Hi, guys. Welcome to the studio.
Hey, thanks for having us.
Okay, I need you to be really honest, both of you.
These moustaches look like they've been grown a lot longer than a week.
Do you get a head start on Movember?
Mine's permanent.
So, and look, for me, I was like, I'm not going to start again.
I mean, a big reason behind that is because it's, I mean,
I sort of feel pretty protected behind my moustache
and I wasn't willing to give up on it, even for a moment.
Which is part of the reason why I wanted to get a head start.
And I have copped a lot of slack for this,
that people were saying that you have to clean shave by November 1
and then start growing.
And I'm like, shut up.
Do you know what, though?
This is what people don't know about you, Matt.
You've got really weak facial hair.
And so you need like...
Just like your personality.
He needs like a month lead up.
That's so me.
Spoken like a true co-host.
You need like a month lead up to get that sort of like fullness to your upper lip.
I have had a lot of compliments, though.
People have literally stopped in their tracks and looked at me and gone, wow, that is impressive.
What a slug.
Which is, it's really great to hear.
I think whether if you're clean shave or you're sporting a moustache,
what's important is that you've got the moustache
because then we start talking about it, right?
How funny that there's actually, it's so competitive though,
like you're raising money for charity and awareness,
but people are still like, you had a two-day head start.
But the statistics are alarming.
Around 10.8 million globally are facing life with prostate cancer diagnosis.
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer around young men.
One man dies by suicide every minute of the day,
which is crazy statistics, very concerning.
What made you guys want to jump on board such an important course?
For me, since having kids, my mental health has been a priority.
I mean, I was suffering very early on and thankfully found my voice
and was encouraged to talk and glad I did
because it probably saved my life in the end.
Ash, do you mean that you were struggling early on
with adapting to a new lifestyle being a dad?
Yeah, yeah.
I mean I always say like I can't remember what my life was like before kids but since having kids
early on really struggled and now I've got two happy and healthy kids and the relationship
between them is so much better that my wife encouraged me to go and you know open my mouth
and hopefully just me being able to tell people that I can get one person to do the same and
potentially save their lives if possible. Was it challenging for you and I don't mean in terms of
mental health but I mean in terms of speaking about it because I mean traditionally that's
what we see right that men we know that there is a huge issue with mental health but it is the fact
that men have not been conditioned to talk about their feelings to talk about what they're
experiencing and I know that we can wear I mean we can't but you guys can wear a mustache that
really kind of brings these conversations to the forefront but as ambassadors you have to have them
is that not something that's a bit scary to do yeah early on like the conversation I always
thought like oh what's more important is like my wife's health my kids health but um you know
putting myself first was hard but the encouragement from my wife and family and knowing that I wasn't
getting any better and everyone else was um yeah I just went and spoke to a GP and felt really
empowered actually. In this relationship I've definitely got it a lot easier than Ash I'm just
like I'm growing the moustache poorly but I'm still trying but I'm really just heroing Ash and
being like, look at, look at Ash's situation. He's such a poster child for doing the right thing.
Yeah. But I think you undervalue how important it is having friends in our lives who allow for
these conversations to be had and, you know, to recognize in someone when they're going through
a hard time and having the space to allow people to talk through what it is that they're experiencing.
And I think that that goes for everybody, that we can create more space for these really
difficult conversations. Yeah. I think even just the act of talking, like we were talking yesterday,
Matt about you know if someone was to open up to me they might not want the solution they just want
me to listen and that's really important and I don't know a lot of my friends have come to me
and even just with something really minor just to just to chat about it might actually be really
relieving for them but um I don't have the answer but just just just someone to listen is really
important if people want to get involved in Movember what is the like how do they get involved
and I don't just mean growing a mustache so that there's um visibility but like how can people
actually be helpful to this? Well, I think it can be a case of just prioritising their own mental
health. And if they're not feeling quite right, then reaching out to someone, whether it be a
friend or, you know, could be a GP and just discussing the situation. Or it could be,
you know, looking at your close circle of friends and those mates. If someone seems a little bit off
speaking to them and like Ash said, not trying to find the solutions, but just being a set of ears
that they can just hear as they open up, I think is really important. And I think what you said,
Ash is so true. The more
you talk about it, the easier it becomes
and the more you rip that bandaid off, you're like, oh,
there's not as much stigma attached to this as I
actually thought there were. So you guys, I mean,
we applaud you. You're doing amazing things.
