Life Uncut - The Trolls Were Right! Britt Doesn't Know Her Husband & The Bachelor Producer Who Wrote a Tell-All About Sleeping With Pilot Pete

Episode Date: July 14, 2026

Hey Lifers! Surprise! Britt is BACK! Keeshia is filling in for Laura this week while she enjoys the school holidays, and the girls waste no time getting into it: the bonus episodes with Ben that had h...alf of you sliding into Britt's DMs to check if she was okay! We have an honest chat about why some things are easier to talk about from a scar than a wound. Then - the trolls were right. After nearly 4 months straight with Ben (the longest stretch they've EVER spent together), Britt discovered something about her husband on the island of Capri that she genuinely cannot believe she didn't know. What did you find out embarrassingly late in your relationship?  Also, Britt left the country for four months and came back to find Keeshia beating butter with a scarf on her head. We get into cottage core, going crunchy, the microplastics rabbit hole, and the new counter-trend of "wellness anarchism" - because apparently cigarettes are back (they never left Europe). Then it's time for the deep dive: The Love Producer. Julie, Pilot Pete's lead producer on the US Bachelor, has released a tell-all memoir about their secret romance. Britt, who has lived the Bachelor experience from the inside, has THOUGHTS. We break down what a lead producer actually does, the two camps of the internet's reaction, Pilot Pete's response, and whether this was a love story or a gross misuse of power. Britt also opens up about her own finale and whether Nick's producers knew he was picking no one, and how she'd feel if that story ever got the Love Producer treatment. Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut, I'm Brittany. And I'm Keisha, filling in for Laura because she's taking this week to enjoy the school holidays but we're back from holidays and I have the nicest surprise for all of y'all. For all of y'all. Britt is here in person, we can touch toes. Are you from the deep south? Oh y'all. No, I'm not from the deep south.
Starting point is 00:00:30 I actually didn't leave Sydney for the entirety of our break and I was just watching your holiday with tears streaming down my face. As the temperature dropped into the single digits, I was like, fuck, you're pretty ugly. Look, I felt that. I felt the burning eyes of people through the screen and every time I posted gallivanting around some island, I did feel like a shit person.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Not enough to not post. Not enough because the engagement's great. No, but we took the month off. We always take a holiday here, but we did it differently this year where I took a week earlier and Keisha were filling in and then Laura took an extra week at the end and I've come back and Keisha's still here. Keisha didn't actually leave.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Yeah, we had six episodes drop over our break. I'm putting that into quotation marks. I said to Keisha, why haven't you gone away? She's like, bitch, I'm still working. I was like, Ness and I have actually just been editing like normal for the first week. No, but I mean, not only are we back, I was always going to be back on the episode this week, but I'm actually back in the country.
Starting point is 00:01:30 I'm back in the studio, back in Sydney. Which was a surprise to absolutely everyone. I got a text from Britt and there's a second part of this. Not only are we really good friends and we work together, but also I had Delilah with me, your dog. And so I just got this message from Britt and she was like, surprise, I'm coming back in two days. I'm coming to take my dog.
Starting point is 00:01:49 I get one word response and she said, no. Yeah. No, you're not coming to get your dog. I think it's because I expected to have a little bit more of a, a little bit more notice, a little bit more time to emotionally prepare myself, not to prepare Delilah. Delilah is fine. She's very resilient. She'll come and go with just about anybody.
Starting point is 00:02:07 You say that like I've pimped her out since she was a puppy. Oh, she's very resilient. She's had a tough life. Delilah has not had a tough life. That dog is eating salmon. She's getting spas. She's going for walks. She swims in Bondi every day.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Yeah. The dog has a great life. she has four different orthopedic beds in a two-bedroom apartment every room that that dog walks into her back is looked after she has a silk eye mask she's the dog's doing just fine but very resilient yes yes but i wasn't this time this time around i feel like i just needed a little bit more of a buffer between like okay brit's gonna be coming back and that means that delilah is going home and as it turns out i think my dog bonnie also needed a bit more of a buffer because the day after you picked Delilah up,
Starting point is 00:02:51 I've actually never felt more upset. Bonnie went into the front room, the front bedroom. She didn't even wag her tail a single time. I reckon she was in there for six hours. She's never done that. I've never seen her so heartbroken she was missing her bestie. It's because they are best friends. You know why?
Starting point is 00:03:06 It's because Delilah has lived a life without Bonnie, but Bonnie has not lived a life without Delilah. That was deep. It's like A, D, B, C, before Christ, after Christ. Before Delilah, after Delilah. but it was yeah it look it wasn't planned I wasn't supposed to be back yet but I guess it wasn't not planned it was always sort of open in the air when I was going to come back but with Ben's football going on and he was going away and he had different training things to do I thought I may as well come
Starting point is 00:03:34 back I would rather be here with people than just chilling on my own and so I think I booked it with like 12 hours notice I was like so yeah I love that you're like that I can't operate any other way I hate plans like with my friends what we say to each other one particular friend is whenever we try to make plans with each other we just write back pbe which means play by ear but to the point that I'll message him sometimes I'll be like hey do you want to go to dinner tonight we'll be like pbe like play by ear it's 5 30 I'm like no it's like it's an hour so do you because he also hates making plans I get playing by ear in like a month or something but like when it's an hour away I'm Like, I just want to eat.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Are we going or not? But I don't operate well on plans. I operate better when I have to make a decision on the spot and then just commit to it. Well, it's lovely to have you back. I'm actually stoked that you're back. I missed you. I actually missed everyone too.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Also, I felt so – when Ben and I did our episodes, so we did some bonus episodes over the holiday period. If you guys haven't listened, go and have a listen. But Ben and I recorded them and then I forgot about them and I didn't listen back. and then I got so many messages off the back of it saying you sound so sad are you okay like what's going on just checking in on you and I said to Ben was I that depresso I was like what did we talk about and I realized we're talking a lot about fertility and being lonely and things like
Starting point is 00:04:58 that and I think I must have sounded really low because a lot of you guys were writing to me to checking, which I really appreciate. And we are fine. I remember the day we recorded, particularly about the fertility episode. I had just had another negative pregnancy test that morning. So I remember just feeling a bit flat going into it, which, you know, obviously I carried that into the episode without meaning to. So anyway. And sometimes I think often when you're in these types of environments and I guess for me it was mostly when I was in my radio days you do have to like turn up and do your job and you sometimes more than others you have to kind of fake the energy and often if you fake it at the start the ball gets rolling and then you're actually okay
Starting point is 00:05:44 and you feel fine and it's a little bit of like a reprieve for an hour if you've had some shit go on in your actual life but every now and then and I think it's easier to do that when you're around other people who also have to do that so like if one of us was to know that you'd had a bad morning the other one can kind of like double boost the energy but if you're recording with ben who is not a podcaster or not like and also if anyone that knows ben knows he's probably got about one speed and it's not high energy he's very literal why is this a problem he's very literal and he's quite calm okay and like you guys know if you've listened to him he's very relaxed and quite calm he's not the person that's like oh pump it up pump the gym like he's not gonna he's not gonna be like
Starting point is 00:06:26 come on baby like yeah he's very chill I thought you were about to say to me like Keisha it's what you did with the audio because I did actually have to AI that audio and not AI anything that they said I actually didn't do the episode it's just AI for me Britt and I had we had a disagreement about particular microphones and how they need to be used and the fact that mic bumps are not nice to listen to and so I had to run that audio through it actually could be a little bit of that you know because that would have flattened the sound of the audio I was depressed okay it was a bad day we can blame the AI but I was it was me it was a flat day okay all right but everything's okay yeah I feel I do feel bad and we'll talk about it another time I'm sure but I
Starting point is 00:07:11 also think I scooted through the fertility chat on that episode you remind me Keish because you edited it we didn't give a lot did we we just sort of said like we can't fall pregnant it's like it is what it is. And, and I also feel bad for scooting through that, but it was interesting having that chat with Ben compared to having that chat with you girls and friends. Do you know what I mean? I think when you're going through something with a partner and you're going through it live and you're experiencing it, you're both experiencing it. So it's hitting us both at the same time. Whereas I think when I'm talking to you or Laura about it, or, you know, talking about on the podcast, it's different because I'm telling you my version of what I'm going through and
Starting point is 00:07:51 you're not experiencing it. So you're able to have a different conversation and, and have a different understanding. And I think when you're going through it with a partner, it's real, like it's, it's happening now. Like we are experiencing it now. We've been experiencing it for years and I guess it takes a bit of a toll. And I just think the conversation hits different and Ben processes things differently, you know? And so he's processing things at the moment as we're going through it as well. Is this something you want to elaborate on or do you maybe want to touch on it like at a later date? Yeah, I think at a later date we will, but I mean, it's, I'm not keeping secrets. It's, it's not like there's anything big. It's just that we can't fall
Starting point is 00:08:29 pregnant and there are different aspects attached to that for sure. And we've been doing different things and different testing and whatever else. And it's nothing new, but it is new at the same time. Do you know what I mean? Like we've been trying for quite a long time. Like you're finding up more information yeah and like we've just been doing a deeper dive into things and just had some uh yeah some some moments that we will elaborate on but I think when you're going through it it's like oh it's like it's all I think about anyway and you're like the last thing I want to do is talk about it constantly when you're yeah especially when it's like so fresh and you are still constantly adding to that information sharing it publicly can sometimes make you feel
Starting point is 00:09:06 as though you're not in control of it and you're also maybe you haven't processed your own emotions around it yet. And so sometimes things are much easier to talk about from a scar rather than a wound. And often that's not just because it's like, you've kind of resolved your feelings a little bit more. It's also because you can be a little bit more clear with what's actually happening. Otherwise you kind of talk around and around in circles and like, it's just confusing for everybody. And you know what else? It's actually something we're speaking about on the episode today. We're doing a bit of a deep dive into something that's happening in reality TV world over in America but an aspect of that is who owns the story and it's the same thing when
Starting point is 00:09:44 you're in a relationship as much as a story is mine it's Ben's as well and as much as we're very open I will only ever share what I'm allowed to share that Ben's comfortable with if he feels like something should be private I would never go and talk about something on the podcast and so at I would, and I've done it wrong in a bar. Do we need to unpack that? Keisha did. Do we need to unpack that? Keisha, you did have a little bit of an overshare moment.
Starting point is 00:10:14 It was a little whoopsies. Yeah, you overshared something and Toblerone was a bit unimpressed. But we band-aided that. Yeah. Better deemed it. Sometimes you do have to ask for forgiveness, not permission. You asked me the wrong job. I got that one wrong but you know what this was actually the longest time Ben and I have
Starting point is 00:10:38 ever spent together and I know that blows a lot of people's minds because we're married we've been together for nearly four years and I think this was about three months really like three months every day together which was the longest we've ever spent together what I am gonna say is before I left if you guys follow me on social media I think we spoke about on the podcast briefly I put a reel up I just got angry one day like somebody wrote to me and was like you don't even know your husband like you don't know who you're married to and I was like I fucking know my husband like I think I would know who I married you don't need to spend every day together to understand someone like we connect on another level we know everything about each other
Starting point is 00:11:20 turns out the trolls were right they often are the trolls were right I had this moment something happened and I thought how do I not know this and when I say the trolls were right like don't come waving your flags at me like you I'm saying that loosely it's a joke but we were we're sitting on the beach I don't remember where we were. One of the islands, which sounds really weird. One of the islands. I was depressed.
Starting point is 00:11:53 It was very hard. Yeah, we islanded. And I realized I did not know my husband. It was when I was sipping a pina colada on the island of Capri when I realized. 28 degrees. Who is this man? I must go for a swim and rid myself of the knowledge. No.
Starting point is 00:12:11 So we were sitting on an island. I think I was having a cocktail. and ben ben like jumped up out of nowhere and like frantically started swinging his arms around and like running away and i was like you know when something happens really quickly i was like babe what's wrong what are you doing and he was like very ott flapping his arms around running around like something was trying like it was like there was a crocodile trying to eat him this is a man who is literally trained to be under pressure he's a goalkeeper and I was like baby what's happening and he's like oh there's a bee and I start laughing I'm like
Starting point is 00:12:46 a bit dramatic I'm like why are you being so dramatic and he's like I'm allergic and I thought sorry what I'm like we have been together four years and you are my husband we are traveling around outside and you didn't think to ever tell me that you are allergic to I was like what kind of allergy are you going to die like do you have an epi pen like how do you think surely when you meet someone you're like hey this is what I do this is my job this is what I like and dislike this is what's going to kill me anaphylactic to be this is what's gonna happen this is how you use an epi pen just so you know and it's in my backpack no he's actually not anaphylactic he's not gonna die but he's like highly allergic to a bee and just never told me and I was like who are you
Starting point is 00:13:38 I do feel like that's particularly strange. Right? You know, it's not one of those things, you know, when you've known someone for so long and then you find out that they have some type of food aversion or something. I'm actually on your side for this. I feel like that is particularly strange. However, the bees are dying at an alarming rate. So maybe there haven't been enough bees wherever you've been traveling to and has it been an issue?
Starting point is 00:13:57 Ben's not helping that situation. The bees are dying faster now, I can tell you. No, but I just thought it was interesting. And it made me wonder, and I wonder if this is like a call out to the lifers, like what did you find out late in your relationship that you probably should have known? Maybe not even shouldn't have known, but something, you know, did you find out your husband or wife had a sibling or were they married before and you never knew? Like, I feel like there are some things in a relationship you just tell your partner
Starting point is 00:14:22 and an allergy is one of them. I would like for them to be particularly obscure because like finding out that they had a second family, finding out that they were cheating. I mean, we've all been there, right? No, yes, we've all had double life relationship. But it made me think, I was like, Ben, you need to take allergies more seriously. Do you guys remember at my wedding, Mitch Turi, our good friend who's was our radio co-host, he's been on the pod many times. Mitch Turi was our, not only a guest, but he was coming as our MC of the wedding. And as you guys know, Ben did nothing
Starting point is 00:14:53 for our wedding planning. The only thing he had to do was like go through our list and write down people's allergies. That's all he had to do for the food menu. Luckily, I have to do his job for him and I double checked it, right? And I was like, did you write down all the allergies once he'd sent it off? He's like, yes, Brittany. And I was like, are you sure? He's like, yes, you gave me one job. I can do it. And I said, so you put Mitch's allergy down? Because Mitch is allergic to like kingfish, Mitch is allergic to mango, avocado. I've always questioned that. You know, when people like say that they have an allergy to something and you're like, do you get a little puffy or do you stop breathing like there is a scale of allergy and I want to take the
Starting point is 00:15:30 serious ones seriously Mitch is the type of person love you Mitch you are the type of person to add a little mayo add a little sprinkle of theatrics to a situation he was born into drama school Mitch like he came out of the womb in theater school but I do think he is actually allergic I have seen his throat swell up a bit like when we're at work so it's right okay yeah he does have reactions having said that sorry mitch sorry for gaslighting well it's been many years now since you know when you've got an allergy you stay away from stuff but you can outgrow an allergy so i wonder if he's probably outgrown it anyway let's not deep dive mitch true's allergies off the back of that i said so you put down mitch's allergies and he was like no i said what i was like why not
Starting point is 00:16:14 like we're going to a place we're serving seafood and he's allergic and he's like no i mitch is just joking he's not really allergic i'm like see mitch this is your own fault okay no one believes you It's like the boy who cried wolf. I was like, Ben, what part of Mitch filling out the allergy form with his allergies did you think was a joke? It wasn't a stand-up skit. It was like fill out your allergies and he wrote his allergies. But if there was someone who would make that into a stand-up skit,
Starting point is 00:16:38 it's Mitch. But if I didn't double-check Ben's allergy list that he'd already sent off to the caterer, Mitch might not be here. I wonder what things I could pretend I'm allergic to so that I get a better quality of life. I'm allergic to Economy Club. Yeah. i'm actually i'm actually allergic to working for more than two hours straight
Starting point is 00:16:57 well funny you say that because you've gone full trad wife i don't know what happened to i left three months ago and keisha was quote unquote normal and i came back was she and i came in and she had a scarf on her head and she had a flowy dress and she was like i was like keisha where are you and she's like i'm out the back beating the butter and she and i was like sorry i have a kitchen aid that does it for me anyway she's you've got i don't know the last time you cooked something that wasn't handmade you're beating butter you're making bread from scratch you're cooking the dog's food from scratch i am a sheep for every trend and there are two that i have lent even further into you know what happened i took a little nibble of something in
Starting point is 00:17:37 the algorithm and then the algorithm was like oh she likes this and then i took a little bit more of a nibble and now the algorithm has completely taken over and it's like she's full-blown crunchy have you heard this term crunchy it's my favorite chocolate but i've never heard of the term okay i think it's a 2026 thing i'm not sure if i'm a bit late to the party i typically am with trends but there's two there's one called cottagecore and there's one called crunchy and it's about people who like cottagecore i'm cottagecore returning to like herbs in the garden no notifications wooden spoons no notifications that's why you don't message me back all the time i'm like yo constantly on do not disturb now it's fantastic my phone is always on silent
Starting point is 00:18:14 but crunchy is kind of a bit more of a like a left step to that a little bit more in woo-woo territory but I've actually ventured down that way where it's about eco-friendly but natural holistic things and don't worry I haven't gone too far because my partner's a doctor so far you can go I still take medication every day as well but I'm quite enjoying it the one place it's starting to kind of give me a bit of stress and I'm wondering what's gonna you know be worse for me the stress that it's causing is like cleaning products and products in the household i was just about to say this firstly it's not that it's like quote unquote woo woo and i don't even think we're supposed to use that term but it's not woo woo anymore because we have
Starting point is 00:18:56 so much more evidence that we never used to have so when people used to anyone that was like living a super clean and like anti-toxic kind of microplastics anyone that was living that life like 10 or 15 years ago people were sort of paying them out a bit people were like whatever like you know there's no proof there is proof now and I have changed the way I use cleaning products so especially I don't know why my algorithm my algorithm doesn't serve me any trad wife cooking stuff because it knows I've never cooked in my life it's like it's just wasted on this bitch I cook nothing you're lucky if I put milk in my cereal in the morning but it does feed me a lot of cleaning products and I have changed my dishwashing tablets specifically and also
Starting point is 00:19:41 my laundry tablets. So have I. To the sheets? Do you use the natural sheets? No but I've got like also I'm so confused because so many of these things like they don't have to disclose what's actually in them in the products list and that kind of thing and so I think that I'm going down this like anti-government route where I'm like why are they not legislating that it has like all of our clothing they have to list what the ingredients of the clothing are. Why is it not on all of our products? Don't become completely anti-government. No and I'm not completely anti I'm obviously not anti-establishment. I feel as though I am split in two because I am very much down this kind of rabbit hole. My algorithm is taking me down where I'm getting scared of all
Starting point is 00:20:22 of these plastics and chemicals and all this stuff that is inevitably going to kill me but then also there's this new trend it's called wellness anarchism it's because everyone has gotten so sick of this like optimization clean girl kind of vibe and they're calling people sig fluences it's a trend so people smoking cigarettes again did you see like Kylie Jenner's been doing photo shoots with cigarettes I've seen that cigarettes are back can I tell you cigarettes never left Europe well let me tell you they they never left they've always been there and I actually have so many friends that say when they go to Europe they start smoking really yeah because literally one friend is weak I was like why do you do that and she was like because it's sexy there she was like
Starting point is 00:21:05 all the sexy beautiful people are doing it it's it never really I don't feel like the health crisis I don't feel like the whole lung cancer thing hit Europe I don't know how bypass the continent yeah I don't think they have pictures on their cigarette packets like we do and also they're a lot cheaper there but I feel as though I'm kind of split in two because all of my algorithm is telling me about all these chemicals and stuff that are killing me but I take amphetamines every day medication that I take is known to not probably be the best for my brain but I'm still going to take it so I feel as though I'm like half cottagecore girl half what's this trend called messy girl or wellness anarchism so what you're saying this is my new identity what you're saying
Starting point is 00:21:49 Because you have a veggie garden out in the back, but you're just growing weed. You're like, I've got one foot in each. The topic that we're deep diving on today is something that Britt and I have been utterly engrossed and obsessed with. As soon as I saw it happen, I sent it to you and I was like, we simply must talk about this. And I'm really quite shocked because I don't know whether it's kind of reached Australian media. And I understand why, but I find the psychology around this, workplace relationships and when they are and aren't inappropriate, so, so fascinating. And I cannot wait to get your take on this because you've lived an adjacent experience.
Starting point is 00:22:32 The characters you need to know about, there is a guy who is the US Bachelor. His name was Pilot Pete. He actually was on a previous season of The Bachelor. He was on Hannah Brown's season and he was like one of the runner ups. He got dumped and like, sort of like Matty J, right? like you get dumped everyone feels sorry for you and then they get made to be the next bachelor so it's exactly what happened to maddie joe and he was quite a young bachelor for the american one yeah i think he was about 28 when he was on the bachelor yeah so we're flashing back a couple of
Starting point is 00:23:01 years so his season of the bachelor filmed in 2019 and it aired at the very start of 2020 okay so the second character in this saga her name is julia laplaca she was a producer of the u.s Bachelor at the time, she was actually Pilot Pete's lead producer. She was 35 at the time, she is now 41. And there have been rumours for a very long time about whether something happened between these two while they were filming and while they were airing Pilot Pete's season. She has now come out with a brand new memoir. It is called The Love Producer and it is a somewhat tell all of what actually took place between her and pilot pete on her quest for love now i do want to preface this by saying we have not read the book and we don't plan on it but there's been a
Starting point is 00:23:50 lot of podcasts discussing this she's gone on podcasts discussing this we've done a lot of research so we know basically the guts of it but we haven't ourselves read the book and for anyone who didn't see this season of the u.s bachelor i actually did watch it at the time that it came out But, yeah, I'd be surprised if a lot of people in Australia were watching The U.S. Bachelors. They might know about this one anyway, though, because it was one of the most dramatic and drama-filled seasons that has ever aired.
Starting point is 00:24:14 So Pilot Pete, he ended up proposing to a girl called Hannah Ann. They actually filmed the finale of that episode in The Australian Outback. There wasn't a second contestant by that time because the second contestant, her name was Madison. She had already left the show. She did a runner. She didn't really agree with the fact that they have the fantasy suites
Starting point is 00:24:33 in the American version where they can choose to sleep together. And she basically was like, I'm saving myself for marriage. I don't want to be with you if you are going to go and sleep with the other contestants. Which is also fair. Totally fair. She chose to leave. But then after Pilot Pete had proposed to Hannah, they broke up.
Starting point is 00:24:49 He went back to the girl who came second. They did the tell-all episode where they all sit down with Chris Harrison, the host, and they all discuss what was going on. It's very dramatic, that episode. they then said to everyone hey we're going to give it a go they were together for two days they then broke up and he ended up dating a girl called kelly who actually came fifth yeah and they were in an on and off again relationship for a couple of years and then to top it off pilot pete was really piloting around the place pilot pete he went back and was seen very briefly dating
Starting point is 00:25:22 hannah brown who was the original bachelorette that dumped him so it's like pilot pete's got his wires crossed he doesn't know what's going on he couldn't figure out who he wanted to be he was a bit of a lover boy but a lover boy for absolutely everyone and as it turns out one of those people was also the person who was employed to be his lead producer yeah so this is where it's getting tricky and it's getting divisive Julie who was his producer who was six years older than him has come out saying that she loved him and they had a romance now she has said that they didn't have the romance whilst they were filming but the romance was ongoing whilst the season was airing because there usually is you know a couple of month delay between when
Starting point is 00:26:04 you film something reality tv and when it airs and so they had been sleeping together but they were not in a relationship the first time that they were actually intimate like physically was the night that they were airing the women's tell-all she speaks about it being in his parents house there was like another producer there they were basically there to kind of comfort Pete because they knew that it was going to be a really I guess the public backlash would be bad because of how messy the whole situation was she really lent into the comfort totally and she wrote about the fact that you know he came to her door and then that's when things ended up happening they hooked up later she found out that he'd also been hooking up with Hannah Brown and this other girl
Starting point is 00:26:45 Kelly in between and she was quite devastated she wrote this letter to him all these years later saying that she loved him and that the feelings were real and that there was just never the right timing between them. My take on this when I heard her talking about it is that she felt more than he felt. Like she even calls him a soulmate at one point. And I want to set the tone of what these producers actually do and what the relationship is like in the day-to-day because this is very important for why I believe and many other people believe that this is a very problematic relationship. Julie's role as the head producer for The Bachelor. So when you're a contestant, so like I was, for example, you start with 30 women. You are given minders and
Starting point is 00:27:29 a minder is somebody that lives in the house with you. They're always available for you. If you need something, they watch over you. They're the ones that are making sure you're not doing anything wrong. They're the ones that are reporting you. They're the ones you go to when you want to have advice. They monitor your phone calls when you get one. It's like you're in prison. You phone back like once every two weeks you get a phone call to your family for like 15 minutes it's timed to the minute and they are in the room with you and you're on loudspeaker so they know everything about you but when you're a contestant it's maybe like two to three minders for the whole house so you start with three minders for 30 women and obviously women are culled very quickly when you get to the
Starting point is 00:28:09 end like Laura and myself basically you have one-on-one with this minder for maybe a week where this is different if you're the lead bachelor or bachelorette you get one producer minder the whole time and they are with you for three months from the minute you wake up until the minute you go to bed their job is to guide you in your decision making and how you're feeling and they're there to listen to you and advise you if you have problems and their job isn't to tell you what they think you should do or who you think you should go with. Like they are under instructions that they're not allowed to do that. They're not allowed to influence and say like, oh my God, I definitely think you should pick this person. And where I think this is interesting
Starting point is 00:28:54 is it definitely sounds like there were lines crossed in this relationship because he has come out, Pilot Pete, and said she was influencing his decision-making at the end with the women that he was going to pick. Julie has come out herself and said, whilst we weren't romantically together in that season, I knew when I met him that there was something there. There were sparks there. Like I felt something and I just didn't know what it was. The problem is now, if she felt that for three months and she knew she had feelings for him
Starting point is 00:29:26 and she knew she wanted something from him after, she 100% would have been leading him down different tracks, making different decisions that may or may not have resulted in the end of his Bachelor season, which made him one of the most hated people. Like people really disliked him. And he has said that it was because there were moments that she would say to him,
Starting point is 00:29:48 if you pick her, the country's going to hate you. There really are these two big camps and I'm going to play snippets right now. So Julie herself went on an ex-Bachelorettes podcast. Her name is Caitlin Bristow, and she has a podcast called Off the Vine. So have a listen to this. I think I was really in denial at that time, but then it was coming from all these angles, including like our family.
Starting point is 00:30:12 And then I'm like, oh, am I actually like denying something that actually might be quite real? Yeah. Or am I just getting entangled in like what seemingly the world, you know, and I started to write the ending and and wow this actually is like a beautiful rom-com this is my moment you know um but then there was like there was also sadness when it wasn't that and there was a lot of hurt and so like then on my journey I started to realize oh yeah there there were real feelings and um and part of my job for so many years was getting everyone else to be vulnerable and share
Starting point is 00:30:51 their heart and share their truth and I'm like why do I shield my heart yeah why do I hold in my feelings I've never be one to go and be like tell a guy how I feel so that's one camp and you don't really hear much from the host in that clip but basically she seems like she didn't have a problem with it she seemed quite for it and she was just there to have a conversation she didn't really challenge her on it uh there were a few questions that were I would say a two out of ten in toughness but generally speaking it was like yeah girl like you know it was very much an open conversation quite supportive and to play devil's advocate yes they are both adults yes he also had power in the situation being that he was the bachelor yes he did hook up with a lot of people
Starting point is 00:31:34 in a short amount of time which she was quite upset by I can understand all of those things and I'm not saying that pilot Pete was perfect pilot Pete was far from perfect yeah pilot Pete dipped his finger in a couple too many pies it seems but I think that overarchingly to me I can hear it in that where she's like is this my time is this my love story I'm like it this was your job your job was to help someone find their love story you weren't just like a person who coincidentally ended up being friends with this man yeah I have strong opinions and I've thought about it a lot but I want to play you the other camps podcast first so this is Nick Viles podcast Now, Nick was also on The Bachelor many, many years ago.
Starting point is 00:32:16 So he has lived this experience also from the male's perspective. And this isn't a like, whoa, the men. What's somebody to think of the men? It's not thinking of the men, but it's important to discuss it. So have a listen to this. And we have edited this down for timing because the podcast is about an hour and a half. We did listen and watch the whole thing. But this snippet has been edited.
Starting point is 00:32:35 This person is their fucking shadow. This person is their lifeline. This person is their therapist. this person is with the lead for at least six months pre-production during production post production while they're producing the show this person literally has their passport their id their phone this is the person who like is letting their family know when they land in a different country to make sure they're okay like this person literally is their whole universe they're the one doing every single interview with the lead. To keep them opened up to relationships and keep
Starting point is 00:33:15 exploring their thoughts and feelings. That specific relationship, it's always intense. Sometimes the leads don't even talk to their producer anymore because again, intense. It's always intense. What it's never should be is romantic. What you don't get to do is seduce these people and then be exploited for it also we know that peter begged not to come out with the book that's asked her point blank please don't do this please don't exploit my story and she did it fucking anyways and you know what's even darker and more cynical about this you know why you haven't heard from any bachelor producers about why because i've talked to many over the weekend and they were all mortified and disgusted by this book existing
Starting point is 00:33:57 you know why because they all signed an nda and they are not allowed to speak on some of their like you know dark behavior as producers and the shit they have to do to produce the bachelor it would be career suicide they would be sued the fuck out of she didn't write about the fact that she had harassment training at work and then decided to groom fucking peter into like feelings you know what i'm saying she didn't talk about the fact that her job is literally to coerce peter and get him to say and do things they would probably never otherwise do in that world it's literally her you know who peter goes to when he wants to talk to his therapist he gets to he has to go to fucking julia and get permission to do that like again like she is literally his whole
Starting point is 00:34:36 world in that period of time grooming for me is a strong word i'm not convinced it was grooming so i differ from how nick feels in that but overall i feel very similarly to nick but i want to break down a few things because i do think it's a nuanced conversation devil's advocate here in julia's view of this world and how it's gone down it does sound like she was hoping this would be a fairy tale it sounds like she really did have feelings for him i can 100 understand why as i said before it's all day every day for three months and often alone like you you get given accommodation they get a mansion i don't know what americans get and she always has to be there So I have no doubt that you form a bond that is very strong and very trusting.
Starting point is 00:35:26 And even if you didn't want to be close to that person, you don't have a choice because they are the person that you have to go to. They hold so much power over you because if you want anything, if you want more groceries, you have to ask them. If you need to speak to a therapist, you ask them. I cannot stress enough, they are your point of contact. And when you have been on a date all day, so you might have gone on an eight hour date You go home. The only person you have to unpack with is that person. So I have no doubt that they
Starting point is 00:35:56 formed some kind of a bond and it's not unusual for people in a workplace to form relationships. So if we are like devil's advocate, they spent three months together. They didn't hook up. She developed feelings. Months later, they hooked up. Technically, is there anything wrong with that? Probably not. I think where the issue comes into this is that it seems like she was manipulating the story as it was happening to come out with a positive ending for her like it sounds like she was like oh I actually think he's more connected to this woman I need to get him to end up with the other woman because then it won't work out and then maybe I'll get my fairy tale and some other things that kind of allude to this as well we have this information because of other interviews
Starting point is 00:36:42 that she's done and components that have been published about the book is that she was the lead producer for Hannah Brown, the girl who before who Peter, Pilot Pete was actually rejected by. Apparently they had a really complicated relationship and, and Hannah has alluded to the fact it was because there was a lot of jealousy. Julie has also said that she was offered to be the bachelorette and she would have loved to have been the bachelorette. They wanted to like a Cinderella story. You know, she'd been producing the story and then all of a sudden she was the leading gal. And it becomes very obvious that Julie actually had intentions of making herself the star of this show. A response from Pilot Pete to a clip of Nick Vile's podcast on Instagram,
Starting point is 00:37:22 it was pinned to the top. I actually couldn't find it when I looked today. So I'm glad I screenshot it a couple of days ago. I'm not sure if it's just that it's disappeared or that it's been deleted, but he had said this, I've moved on from this period of my life and I'm ultimately responsible for my choices. What I'll say is this, I asked Julie on multiple occasions to please keep intimate details private. This wasn't about a TV show anymore. Curious though, if she mentions in her book about my last one-on-one with Hannah Ann and how in the middle of our dinner conversation during the one-on-one producer interviews,
Starting point is 00:37:53 Julie tells me you will look like the biggest idiot in the world to America if you give her your rose. I find it wrong to mess with a person's headspace like that and then go on to write a book about them. The fact that Chris endorsed this makes me sick. I find this so strange. that she's been touted. I mean, Chris Harrison wrote the forward for this book. He's the host of The Bachelor and he's like, she finally found her voice. And you know, this is more than just a
Starting point is 00:38:21 gossipy unpacking of what goes on behind the scenes. This is her finding her true love in herself. Like to me, the whole thing is kind of warped that they're not like, no, this is someone who's exploiting somebody. I think that her abusing her position of power over him is really predatory and the fact that she has reframed this to being about her finding herself and finding her voice and finding her love story the book basically like the blurb for it goes along the lines of like she produced love stories for other people but she forgot about her own and like she put her own needs aside to make sure that other people could experience the romance that she dreamt of And in these interviews that I unfortunately had the duty of listening to, I genuinely started thinking, oh, you're borderline delusional about the responsibility that you held in that position.
Starting point is 00:39:15 And it's a weak argument, but I think in this particular instance is very fitting if you were to switch the genders of this. You know, I often don't like it when we talk about things in pop culture and we're like, well, if a man did it. but in this particular instance, I think it's one of the very valid questions. If there was a man who was put in charge of looking after the emotional wellbeing of a contestant, yes, we know that producers are also there to make good TV. Yes, that would be exacerbated being in America where the stakes are higher and they have to produce very theatrical TV. But her job was also to look after Pete. Her job was also to be an emotional comfort for him, to get to know him so that they could both produce the best version of him and his bachelor experience
Starting point is 00:39:59 that would lead to him finding a relationship. Her manipulating that into actually this was about me trying to find my love story and we were these people like we were star-crossed lovers who could never properly be together. I don't think it's your fault that you've you know found feelings for someone. I've hooked up with people that I've worked with before but they were never people in positions of power and I certainly didn't have power over them. You know, it was an even playing field. And I know that a lot of people, they actually meet their partners at work. Some people even meet their partners and they are in positions of power and you have to unpack the different dynamics that can contribute to what might be an imbalance in that relationship. This relationship
Starting point is 00:40:40 to me of her being his lead producer, his confidant, and her potentially manipulating the ending of his seizing to suit her own needs and her own emotions is so wild to me that she's flipped the narrative that she's the victim of these circumstances. I think it very much could have been real and I think it was real for her. That's the problem, right? But her job was to extract information and a lot of producers have come out and said they use tactics like they'll cry themselves and they'll open up. Sometimes they'll tell a fabricated story of something horrible if they think it's going
Starting point is 00:41:15 to connect with the person and they're going to open up more. Did you have this happen? Like can you remember conversations with producers that now in hindsight you're like maybe that story wasn't even real. I remember thinking all the time like you have a funny relationship with them because you genuinely like some of them, but you also know what their job is. So they can be really good people.
Starting point is 00:41:36 There are some that if I ran into now we would be absolutely like fine and friendly with and there are some where I would be like fuck you. like I never trusted you from the moment I met you because at the end of the day you are formulating real relationships with them and your conversations I don't know 50 60 70 80 percent of the time could be real but you have to understand that they are there to produce a tv show that is going to bring the drama and there are like there were producers on our show that were really hot like there were hot producers there was a guy that he'll if he ever hears this he'll love it a lot of the girls were frogging over him they were like if it doesn't work out with Nick like
Starting point is 00:42:14 he's so hot and he was never inappropriate but I can see how it happens and the Americans have said that there's loads of hookups outside of the show from people you met in the show because at the end of the day it's just a workplace and I think of people like Julia Roberts for example Margot Robbie all of these people hooked up with their directors and producers and they married them that's fine because there wasn't really a power imbalance and their job that producer's job in a Hollywood film or a TV series isn't to manipulate that person to get a storyline. The difference with this is it's a reality show and that is their job.
Starting point is 00:42:54 It's not a normal producer-actor relationship. The job is to manipulate and it does sound like that is allegedly. We don't know. But from what Pilot Pete has come out and said, he's like, yeah, at the end she was telling me that I shouldn't be doing this or I should be doing this or manipulating his choice by saying, America's going to hate you and that is a tactic they use because I've had it said to me Laura had it said to her like if you don't open up and say you love them Australia's going to hate you if
Starting point is 00:43:23 you don't cry at this Australia's going to hate you because they're going to think you're cold and there's multiple parts to that one is true they are there to try to help you but they also are there to produce that moment and you get so it sends you crazy like I cannot stress this enough the only person there that you can trust is your producer and the only person you know you can't trust is your producer so it fucks with your mind so much and I can't imagine what it's like to be somebody that is the lead that is being manipulated in that way fast forward a little bit the other thing that like pisses me off in this or is hard to understand is and Nick said it in the clip that we just put on she had said that she wrote to him and said I'm gonna put this book out he begged her
Starting point is 00:44:05 not to and this is like another conversation and we've had it before but the conversation is who owns a story so nick the podcaster was sort of tearing shreds off julie saying he said he didn't want her to tell the story she shouldn't have done it but it is still her story and if she still wanted to write a book about something who gets to say what can and can't go into that like i feel like morally and a conversation with a friend or someone you respect you ask them and if you genuinely care and they say no, you don't put it in. Maybe I feel so strongly about this because I have lived the experience in a way and I know how it works. So from the outside, maybe the average person that doesn't really understand the dynamics of when you're in a reality show like
Starting point is 00:44:49 that, you're like, is it that big of a deal? It actually is because this person is the only person that you can go to when you need anything, when you are crying, when you are distraught, when you're making the biggest decision of your life and they are under strict instructions that they cannot misuse that to manipulate the outcome and that's exactly what she's done and the fact that she is a female shouldn't matter she was still older than him she was the one in the position of power and she changed the outcome because of feelings that she had is really cooked to me can i ask about your experience like the one other thing that i got dumped is that how that ended yeah do you reckon all the producers knew though do you reckon that they knew
Starting point is 00:45:32 that that's what was about I mean to a certain extent they would have had to have known something because you have to prep cameras and sound and all do you know what I mean it's probably the one thing that I will always wonder and just in case you are new here and you don't know I was like the first person on The Bachelor Australia to end up at the end and then my bachelor picked no one right and it was this big uproar everyone said they didn't know so great time yeah so it's one of those things that I will never truly know and it used to bother me a lot I couldn't care less now because obviously things worked out I'm happily married and you know I don't think about that time and unless we're talking about it like this and I'm fine with it
Starting point is 00:46:17 I have no scars. Everything is fine. It's great. Was it the most embarrassing moment of my life? I feel fine about it. No scars, no wounds, whatever. But so the way my season was in that moment, I'm led to believe that no one knew. I'm led to believe that Nick made that decision 10 minutes before he was walking down to give
Starting point is 00:46:39 me his answer. That is the story that I was told, that he was undecided. And by all accounts, we were together only the night before on a date. And we were on an extended date. They turned the cameras off and they're like, guys, we're going home. And Nick's like, I'm not leaving. But obviously in his mind, he was maybe still grappling with a decision. So he was like, it's the finale.
Starting point is 00:47:00 I'm making my decision tomorrow. And he's like, you guys can go. We're going to hang out still. And like, we never hooked up, never slept together. You can't do that on The Australian Bachelor. But it just means we hung out for hours longer off camera. And that is never allowed. But I guess it's because it was the final night.
Starting point is 00:47:15 and one of the biggest decisions of his life, they let it slide. So they let us just hang out for a couple more hours, just the two of us. And I think this is why I believe that he made a decision late because he sort of led me to believe in that moment that he was going to choose me. And I don't know if he did the same thing to the other girl, Sophie. All of the production team told me that it was, they had no idea, like zero idea.
Starting point is 00:47:42 the reason I believe that is because like you just said Keisha there were no cameras ready it was chaos like absolute chaos and I could see them looking at each other being like what are we gonna do and I said take me to the other girl like I want to see her and they said no we're not ready for that we don't have cameras like we don't have a crew and I was like I don't care this isn't for tv get an iphone but I was like this this moment now is not for tv I was like this is because this is fucking insane and they were so frantic that I believe it do I believe his producer knew yes so the story is that no one knew and he made the decision as he was walking down but I think that his main producers knew and I don't think they passed it on I think they just
Starting point is 00:48:26 wanted to let how would you feel now all these years later if his main producer let's say it was a girl and it came out that actually they'd had romantic feelings for each other they'd hooked up after like you would just feel so betrayed in terms of the time and value that you'd invested in you know the love story of the bachelor and oh it'd be ropeable yeah it would be wrong on so many levels can you imagine if she then created that going I've got my happy ever after I love myself. Like it was my time to find love. You would just be so filthy about the misuse of her job. All it takes is, and I've often wondered this, I never thought Nick's producer liked me. So he had a guy producer. They're always there. So when you're on your date, his producer's there,
Starting point is 00:49:12 like, you know them, but you don't have that connection with them, right? Like you're not close with them. I never thought he liked me. I think it was the kookaburra love. He just couldn't get on board i don't know what it was i feel like i read people well and i just had this i was like oh this guy fucking hates me i don't know why but all it takes and i'm not saying this is what happened this is i'm just snowballing all it takes is at the end for nick to be one-on-one with his producer being like what am i gonna do like fuck like do you think brit's it and it just takes that person that you've spent a quarter of a year with to be like i don't really see it or like here are all these other things about this person that you don't know here's their instagram
Starting point is 00:49:53 account here's what they're like in the house these are what the other producers have been saying like they just have such an opportunity to sway things if they want to yeah even with just one sentence like it doesn't even have to because at that point you are so desperate for help and you're desperate for guidance that you haven't got because you're not even allowed to turn a tv on in that time like i mean i think nick broke a lot of rules i actually think he had a phone and shit but overall i feel for pilot pete i do think it was a gross misuse of her power and i hate that the host of the bachelor got on board it would be the equivalent of osha jumping on board and supporting that kind of a power abuse here in australia and it's interesting that julie the
Starting point is 00:50:34 author of this book and the producer is so far removed from the reality even though she was on reality tv producing she can't see what has happened like she's really convinced she calls it like a cross between eat pray love and like some other rom-com it's eat pray love it actually is pray with an e yes well we always wrap up with our suck now suite a highlight and low light of the week brit what's your suck my suck is i've left ben obviously so i'm back now for a couple of months and I think probably until like who knows we don't need plans I hate a pad I'm pbe-ing I'm gonna play that shit by you no I'll probably be back until like September I think so back for a solid amount of time but obviously that means I'm not with Ben again for a solid
Starting point is 00:51:22 amount of time so who knows what allergy he's gonna have when I get back I don't know I don't know I might take some EpiPens back uh that's my suck my sweet is I'm back with you guys I'm obviously back with Delilah, Delilah was like the biggest sweet of my life. And I cannot thank you enough for looking after her. I get so many people, there's also two camps of this, but I get so many people that are like, oh, it's so good that Delilah can be with Keisha and Bonnie and the family and like so nice. Then I get the other camp that's like, how could you leave your dog? Like I've left her on the side of the street, but Delilah is very loved and very well looked after and I it is interesting I don't want to leave Delilah I don't enjoy leaving Delilah but
Starting point is 00:52:07 I said to somebody else the other day they wrote on one of your photos Keish and they're like I don't know how you can leave her like why do you leave her and I just said because my husband needs me too like I'm not like I'm sick of you dog I also think and I know that this might sound biased because it will sound as though I'm like fully defending you but if you were leaving her in a kennel or something like that where you're like not as sure i can understand that it's easier for you to make that decision where you're like yes but i know that this you know i know that she's having the time of her life like it's like being on a holiday for three and a half months oh i said to ben if there was nowhere to leave delilah that was safe like you or my parents because there's
Starting point is 00:52:46 i don't know or maybe claire who works for us as well i just i just employ all the people that can look after my dog but I wouldn't go totally I would never leave that dog yeah somewhere that I thought she wasn't looked after yeah so I don't like the fact that people can maybe paint this narrative that you have abandoned her and you've just left her and you're like whatever I don't care I'm going to live my best life in Sardinia fuck you Brittany it's actually you know it's just not the truth it's not the reality of it and so I feel bad when I see comments like that on your Instagram or every now and then they'll come through to mine and I'm like it's just that's It's just not how it is.
Starting point is 00:53:21 No, I don't think Delilah even wanted to come home. I'm not convinced. I think she's like, fuck, mum's back. It's like they're on, you know, when you're in, well, not us, but Americans, like school camp, like summer camp. That's what Delilah, it's like she's on summer camp when she's with you. And I think people also don't realise that Keisha came, the day I picked Delilah up as a puppy, Keisha came.
Starting point is 00:53:39 Like from the day I picked Delilah up, Keisha was there. So she doesn't even care that I'm gone. She does care. No, but I want that. I don't want her to know I'm gone and I don't want it. She does not care. Okay, she doesn't care. She doesn't fucking like you.
Starting point is 00:53:56 No, no, that's not the case. But, yeah, like I said, I just don't like it when that narrative is painted because I think it makes you – it's a misrepresentation of who you are and how much you care about her. Oh, it's been great to have no responsibility. I'm not going to lie. My step count is through the freaking roof. And mine's none.
Starting point is 00:54:11 My suck for this week, this is layered, and I'll try to get through it quickly, but my nephew – it's not supposed to be nuanced sorry sorry I was talking about this with Ness and with Lockie before when we were kind of setting up the studio so my nephew and my sister-in-law came to visit just one of my nephews I've got two and I've also got a niece and the middle nephew came to visit and we had this two days where we did everything we did every mode of transport we caught ferries trains buses trams we drove like we went and did heaps of stuff we went to the lego store we went to Luna Park like I really just tried to show this kid a good time and he is such a good kid
Starting point is 00:54:51 he's like genuinely such a sweetheart he's so thoughtful and like he's been raised really really well I know what you're gonna say my energy levels when they left they left at like one o'clock on Sunday and then I had to go to a baby shower after and I had this immediate thought of like oh my god I need a Dexie like which is my ADHD medication and an IV drip I had that realization where because I've been starting to really think like if kids when the when is feeling much sooner and like we're having those conversations you know with my partner and I but now is it feeling much further away well it's not necessarily that it's feeling much further away I think that I just had that realization I take the piss out of ADHD all the time and I talk about it
Starting point is 00:55:29 a lot and I talk about it very like I I'm not offended by a lot of the stuff that people say about it but the other day it was kind of one of the very first times that I've actually realized oh i live with a disorder and i'm dependent on something like i'm dependent on medication for my social experiences and my energy and i felt really bad about that i really hated that it was a real suck that i was like that feels super shit but that's not i'm not convinced i'm linked to your disorder though like i just spent three days with baby maya like my niece i felt the same kids are exhausted like every mother right now you are doing god's work like it is really hard so I absolutely feel and I'm not meaning to say this in the way where I'm like wow I didn't
Starting point is 00:56:13 realize how hard it was it was more so that I had the realization that I am not in a great like maybe I'm not as equipped to do it as what I thought I was like yeah I'm feeling like I'm really ready for this you know we've done the puppy thing like you know and not that it's comparable but it's like sometimes a first step in that kind of conversation and I yeah I just had that moment of realization where I was like wow I've actually become quite dependent on medication to feel as though I'm going to be okay in social situations so I'm just working through that it's a little bit of a suck for the week but I think a lot of mums are dependent on medication you're not alone play on play on is what I'm saying um my sweet for the week there's quite a
Starting point is 00:56:51 few one is that you're back I love it when you're back I just you're one of those people that I just find so easy to be around for such extended periods of time you don't drain me in the slightest let's make that the social ground pretty great to be around uh and also that my nephew kind of came to visit and that you know I got to have that one-on-one time or like with my sister-in-law as well so two-on-one time but I haven't spent time with them individually like when I go up and visit it's as like a whole family so it was really nice to kind of get to know his little personality more and just spend that extended time so yeah that's him and Dexie as well I said it in front of them.

Starting point is 00:57:54 Or if you think that we're being way too over the top and there were two consenting adults that wanted to sleep together and that should be okay. Also, please, we're going to go put that poll up. I do want to know what did you find out really late that you should have known for your partner? Yeah. That's a big one.
Starting point is 00:58:10 But like the quirky weird stuff. And maybe we'll do that next week. And you know the drill. Tell your mum, tell your dad, tell your dog, tell your friends and share the love because we love love. Thank you.
