Life Uncut - Victoria's Secret - The Mother's Day Shoot That Went Too Far

Episode Date: April 28, 2026

Hey Lifers! Britt is living it up in Italy. It’s only been a week but she’s already tried to replace us. She’s gone on a blind-ish friend date and it didn’t exactly go perfectl...y.  Meanwhile Laura’s oldest daughter Marlie-Mae has a new arch nemesis from the community garden. What did your kid have to learn the hard way? We need to talk about Victoria's Secret and whether children should ever be involved in the marketing of ‘sexy’ brands. Their Mother's Day campaign features model Elsa Hosk alongside her four year old daughter. Elsa is in revealing lingerie. Her daughter is in… a trench coat, a robe and her mum’s high heeled shoes. Victoria's Secret has since removed the carousel from their page, but the images are still on Elsa’s instagram. We walk through exactly what's in each photo, why we all felt uncomfortable when we saw it, and the much bigger question of whether this was an oversight or something far more deliberate; especially given Victoria's Secret's deeply tainted history with Jeffrey Epstein.   ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 — Britt is in Italy and went on a blind friend date 03:20 — The seagull attack 10:16 — Marlie-Mae’s community garden nightmare 14:30 — Victoria's Secret's Mother's Day campaign  27:09 — Les Wexner and the Jeffrey Epstein connection explained 33:22 — Was this an intentional decision or a genuine oversight? 35:00 — Should the model have said no? Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi guys and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. I'm Brittany. I'm Laura. And guess what? I don't want to brag, Laura, but you may have been replaced. By who? That's me coming hot. I'm like, hey, sorry, I've kicked you out and replaced you. Sorry, Britt, But I'd like to just remind you that you're the one who's not in the room right now. I'm here with the team and you're on a screen. So I don't want to scare you off, but like you're easier to turn off right now. I don't want to scare you off, but you've got the chop. I can just pull the internet plug and you're gone, Skis.
Starting point is 00:00:42 No, I'm not actually going to replace you. No one could replace you. But I did the impossible and I made a new friend. Oh, yay! It was really cute. as an adult are worth celebrating that's for sure it is it's new friends as an adult we all know it's hard look we're not besties but i did go on a friend date i got set up on like i guess it was a blind date without it being a blind date hear me out i am very alone here like very alone i've
Starting point is 00:01:11 told you guys before that all of ben's friends i mean all ben's teammates all of their partners like they've got big families or they don't speak english or they don't live here and they travel And anyway, I assumed that you would like the WAG community, that you come into the WAG community and like there's just WAG meetups and WAG lunches and WAG you beef. And I thought there was WAGs everywhere and it was not like that. But Ben set me up with one of his teammates who has a girlfriend who speaks like three languages. Her English is amazing. She's young. They don't have kids.
Starting point is 00:01:47 And so it was like, why don't you guys hang out? And so we did. we went for like and it was a full-on date I was like oh my god I wonder if I look do I look good is she gonna like me like I was really nervous because it was my one chance to make a friend I was like don't fuck this shit up so Britt was this a blind date or was it that type of thing like you know when you're internet dating and so you add them on Instagram first and you like suss them out so it was like a slow burn so I had met her once before the last time I was here at Christmas I met her to the point of I think we're in a supermarket like we ran into them in the
Starting point is 00:02:19 supermarket they said hello that's it introduced us and then I met her very briefly at a football match where we just basically said hello and like how are you whatever it's like five or ten minutes chat we had added each other on Instagram but we didn't interact like we didn't know each other we just you know it's not we weren't sending each other fire flames and eggplant emojis and memes so there's this place in Genoa that's like I guess the like a famous touristy spot but it happens to be right near where we live and so it's beautiful and if you follow me on Instagram you'll know it because I go there every day it's like part of what I do I go for my walk I end up there I usually take a photo put on Instagram but it's like just on the water and there are boats
Starting point is 00:03:01 there's a swim spot there's a little beach and there's all these cafes and it's really really beautiful and so we were like oh my god we might not even get a table like what are we gonna do so we ended up we got a table and we're sitting down and we ordered cocktails and it was really really beautiful but it's because it's so touristy there are people everywhere and we're ordering we got some little food bits there having a drink and it was going well for a first date right I was like she might call me back she might text me who knows and then out of nowhere I feel something first on my arm and I was like oh is it raining and then I feel something on my leg and then I see something in my hair and I'm like what the hell I got a shit on by a seagull
Starting point is 00:03:47 not a normal seagull this was a seagull that's like on steroids and it wasn't a normal poo this was imagine a seagull had gone and had a all you can eat buffet on a three-day-old curry this is what this this is what this seagull laxatives no Keisha I'm not making it up if it was anyone other than this random girl on a first date I would have turned it into content like I would have taken photos of it and filmed it but I was like I can't be an influencer when on a first date with someone you're like damn it this is the most interesting thing that's happened to me all week so I'm so sorry I know I have shit in my hair and I should be wiping it off but I've got to get a snap first just one second I really just take a photo of me can you take another higher
Starting point is 00:04:32 angle higher angle you don't understand that's what I wanted to do so bad every part of me was like, man, this is so funny. Like the amount of poo, it was proper diarrhea. Like this seagull was unwell. And so I looked up, it was, I was like, somebody help the seagulls. Someone give us some gastrostop. It was an absolute menace. But the seagulls here also, they're not like seagulls from home. They are literally seagulls on steroids. They're like an albatross. They are. Shout out by an albatross. It's like a flamingo. It's like a flamingo. Anyway, it was perched above my it was like I happened to have sat under a lamppost where it decided to make its home and so the whole date I was on edge and they do say that when you get pooed on it's good luck right
Starting point is 00:05:18 so there were no other tables to move to I had to stay under the seagull poop table and I just had this feeling about 10 minutes later I was like I think something's about to happen and I looked up and it was like time slowed down it was like slow motion I saw the poo coming from the seagull it would have been straight on my head I launched out of the way knocked some stuff off the table and then it just exploded all over my chair where I was sitting two seconds before wow Brit you always do have this like sixth sense if anyone's gonna be able to envisage a shit falling from the sky it's you have you ever I know no this is probably not a story that you expected to sit in but I'm we're here now not all birds are built the same like it's very different to be shit on by
Starting point is 00:06:02 a sparrow versus shit on by a pelican okay and I know this because I have been shit on by a pelican and let me tell you it's like somebody throws a bucket over you I've also been shit on by a cockatoo and you know no one has sympathy for it everyone's always like it's good luck there's nothing good or lucky about being shit on by a pelican I just wanted to put that out there no thank you because you've made me feel less alone and what i'm getting at here is people don't have enough sympathy for people when they've been shit on by a big bird because when you say you've been pooed on by a bird people think it's that cute little plop like and it's like oh my god so inconvenient i'll just wipe it off good luck trevi fountain like whatever that's not what
Starting point is 00:06:43 this is this is like this deserves a whole other level of sympathy and i'm sorry that you got shit on by a pelican because that's probably what no one's ever said to you laura thank you i was at the entrance and it's where you can go and feed the pelicans. So not only did I get shit on, I had a dead fish in my hand, which I was feeding to a pelican and another pelican flew over the top of me and shit on me at the same time. That is wild that you would feed a pelican. Yeah. And beaks are huge. No, you toss the fish at them and then they eat it. But I was tossing dead fish at a pelican while simultaneously getting shit on by dead fish. And I cried afterwards. So look, I get it. Well, look, while you're out making friends, I have been trying to
Starting point is 00:07:20 stop my children from killing themselves. And I do feel like it's like, what the fuck? Sorry. I didn't see that coming. Well, yeah. I do think that as a parent, your main job is to constantly every day, try and stop your kids from finding new creative ways of endangering their lives. On one hand, we just had baby gates installed in our house so that Poppy can't end up falling down the stairs. So that was like a tick, but something happened with Marley and it's not a ha ha story but it is a cautionary tale everyone so on Thursday we had a we had a shoot for Tony May I was at work and after work Matt picked up the girls from school and Marley is going through that phase of like I feel like it's a phase of childhood that as a
Starting point is 00:08:03 girl you all go through it's the making potions phase it's the making perfumes phase it's the making soup phase like she's always in the garden with a bucket of water smashing shit up and putting it into a bucket and then trying to make me eat it right that's just like part of my life at the moment make you eat it yeah she's like hey mom I made you chicken soup and it's like fucking dead flowers in a bowl with dirt and she says that'll be seven dollars not only does she make me eat it she tries to charge me for it the kid's an entrepreneur she's got a business mindset she got a taste for it when she was busking oh yeah she's an entrepreneur she'll do whatever she can to try and make a dollar that girl and let me tell you she does not have any skills when
Starting point is 00:08:40 it comes to cooking. So Matt picked up the girls from school. I get a call and I answer the phone and Marley is screaming, like screaming down the phone. And it was a blood curdling, like God awful. I don't know what's happened. Screaming. And Matt was like, you need to get to the park right now. And I was like, fuck, I thought she must've fallen off the monkey bars. She must've broken her arm like it sounded as though i yeah i was like broken bone for sure has to be and then he was like you need to come get marley she might need to go to the hospital and anyway marley found the community garden marley decided to make soup and in that soup were a whole lot of chili peppers and so she wanted to get creative and she thought that the little chili flakes
Starting point is 00:09:30 looked like little bits of floating things like as in the seeds look like little floating things in the soup so she'd ripped up all these chilies she'd mushed up this soup of chilies and then she'd rubbed her fingers in her eyes i thought you were gonna say she ate it and i was like was she the seagull above britney the poor kid i'm telling you she'd broken up all these little like mini super hot chilies and then she had rubbed her eyes with it and her eyes were on fire and because she didn't know what was happening she kept rubbing her eyes with her hands so it took Matt she was like on the other side of the park apparently she came running over couldn't see though she was like trying to run to Matt couldn't open her eyes Matt had her over a bubbler for 20
Starting point is 00:10:11 minutes so by the time I got there she was screaming and shaking freezing cold she was wet through a school uniform and she was still trying to rub her eyes so poor Matt's like stop touching this poor little kid because you know what she went hard like she went to the epicenter of the chili like she didn't just touch the outside the seeds are the hottest part of the chili oh yeah she really did a number on herself and I got her in the car so like Matt had no car he had Lola he had the dog like it was all happening in his life we threw her in the car she's completely saturated through from the bubble of the poor little thing she couldn't open her eyes I had to make her sit on her hands because she couldn't understand it's like when they're in that reptilian
Starting point is 00:10:52 brain and they're so like dysregulated they can't take any information so any every time I was like Please stop rubbing your fingers into your eyes. She's like, I can't stop. We drove the whole way home, eyes shut. I got her home. I'd called Ellie. Ellie had run a bath. I got her in the bath.
Starting point is 00:11:08 And then I spent 40 minutes trying to wash her eyes and wash this chili off her hands. We didn't end up in hospital, but my God, that kid learned a lesson that day. I was like, Marley, didn't you realize that they were chilies? And she's like, yeah, I didn't realize that they would hurt so bad. Oh, bless her. You hear me out. Hear me out. you know when you eat something really hot and they say don't drink water drink milk do you think
Starting point is 00:11:33 that flows into like the eyeballs like if you have chili in your eyes do you think it helps by putting milk in your eye no i did look it up and it said i said minimum 25 minutes of constantly flushing with water and then other sources say once you've done that then you can use milk on cotton pad but also i think with this your eyes you could get infections by putting milk into your eyes. I just don't know. It's like the old wives tale. I remember once when I was a kid and I smashed my thumb in the car door, right? Like I totally shut the car door. It's actually alarming how many times I managed to close my thumb in a car door as a kid. Wasn't the brightest, nor did I pay that much attention. We found out about that last week.
Starting point is 00:12:11 If anyone missed it and wants to hear my school reports from last week, I was a horrible child. But I remember slamming my finger in the car door. And the old wives tale was that if you had like swelling or a bruise, you stuck your finger in butter. Can you imagine how painful it is after you slammed your finger in a car door, someone trying to stick your thumb in a block of hard butter? I was like, that doesn't sound right. I have never, ever heard that wives tale. Also Lerpax is expensive. I think that the story in this is probably don't listen to any wives tales. We didn't go down the milk route by any means, did the whole water flushing. But the thing that was like the hardest part of it is like as this was going on and it was like an hour from when
Starting point is 00:12:54 she rubbed the chili in her eyes until she started to feel better she kept on saying like mommy am I gonna die am I gonna die she was so frightened she was so frightened and I was also like you're not but should I take her to hospital I was like am I is she gonna be able to see again am I irresponsible I was like I don't know I don't I mean are you going to I'm not sure because I'm sure that fucking hurts is she completely off chilies because you know as a parent I know that even as an auntie I do this well this is the thing is that if I have something that I don't want the kids to like get their hands in or if I don't want to share I'm like no you won't like it because it's spicy oh no she's yeah yeah she's so beyond that now even if I mention chili she starts crying
Starting point is 00:13:37 I had pasta last night for dinner and I put chili on my own dish and she was like why why the chilies I've got a different angle I want to take here. Why are there chilies growing in a children's park? Who's growing that? No, stop blaming the community garden. It's a really beautiful community garden that everyone can go to and take whatever they want. There's like rosemary in there.
Starting point is 00:14:00 There's chilies. There's like a couple of random pumpkins that people usually steal before they're even ripe. I feel like you've now got the power of like if she's misbehaving, you just go to the pantry and pull out the herbs and spices. how long do I have to have those like irrational threats where you're like if you don't brush your teeth your teeth are all gonna fall out they're gonna get stolen by gremlins and you're gonna die of cavities I'm gonna be like zonk here it is salt bay chili into the bath water
Starting point is 00:14:28 now as you guys probably know Mother's Day is just around the corner I swear this is not an ad you can use life uncut 20 to 20% off today what I was trying to say is is like obviously it's around the corner, you would have seen that all of the brands are currently doing their Mother's Day campaigns. It's that time of year again. Mother's Day is an incredibly commercially viable time of year for so many brands. And they lean into it because the connection of motherhood and motherhood stories is something that I guess, you know, it's the one time of year as a mom, you really have a moment to be like, I fucking survived. Appreciate me. And we see the dollar signs.
Starting point is 00:15:08 And as a company, we're like vulnerability, dollar signs. I make so many jokes, But to be honest, even as Tony May is the brand, like Mother's Day and like we do our campaign around it, it is one of the big commercial pushes of the year. And as much as it is incredibly sentimental, it also has a commercial side to it. Now, the reason why we're talking about this is because a brand has come under fire just by life on cut at this point in time. But I do actually think and we all think that this is a conversation that will be under a bit more scrutiny in coming days. Now, hear us out. Victoria's Secret in no way are they shy of having some controversial campaigns but they recently brought out their Mother's Day and Motherhood campaign and now there's a series of different
Starting point is 00:15:51 Victoria's Secret angels which star in this campaign and they also had their children in it one of these isolated shoots has really sparked a bit of conversation between us and Keisha you yourself you screenshot these photos thinking this is gonna get taken down yeah so when I saw it over the weekend it's funny because we have a whatsapp group we've spoken about this before that anytime we see something on like instagram or an article or whatever it is that we think could end up being content we put it into a specific whatsapp group and I sent the link to the group and I just had this second thought where I was like I bet by the time that we actually go to look at this which is only in like a day and a half I bet that this is going to be taken down because I was already
Starting point is 00:16:34 starting to see some comments pop up and so I screenshot the photos and lo and behold you know the next morning when we wanted to talk about what we were going to talk about on this episode, I was like, hey guys, lucky that we screenshot those things because it has been removed. Yeah. And it's really, look, I mean, I'll kind of set this up for you. So you understand if you want to go and see it, it actually still is visible on the model's profile herself. So it's the Victoria's Secret Mother's Day campaign and it features Victoria's Secret Angel. Her name is Elsa Hosk. Now her Instagram handle is Hoskelsa and she has 8.5 million followers. in this shoot she is six months pregnant she is wearing very feminine baby doll style g-string
Starting point is 00:17:14 lingerie victoria's secret lingerie and she also has her four-year-old daughter tuliki in the photos as well a lot of the comments are this is iconic this is so beautiful however there are also a lot of comments on this post and there's over a thousand comments in of itself which are this is incredibly weird this is very overt sexualization of a child why is there a child in these photos where you were wearing sexy lingerie and now Victoria's Secret has uncollaborated from this one like they've taken those photos down the carousel that they posted however Elsa still has the carousel on her page and there is also a video which is like the campaign video alongside it that is still visible on Victoria's Secret's page at the moment I want to talk you through
Starting point is 00:17:55 what's in these pictures so the very first picture is Elsa wearing a very skimpy little bra with like a lace overlay that's opened from the sternum and a tiny little g-string now her daughter is hiding her face in the lace overhang and she's wearing a full like I guess like from neck to ankle clothing she's fully covered in that one the next one is Elsa wearing a extremely sexy lingerie pink lingerie like baby doll with a little bow on the side. She's pulling her pants down a little bit and the little girl is kissing her mom wearing a trench coat. Now the next photo is a similar one from that campaign where she's got like the pink lace cutout and the little girl is just laying on her mom. I actually don't think that that one is very problematic, but in context of
Starting point is 00:18:39 the rest, it's kind of just like adds to the storytelling. There is a picture of Elsa on her own holding her baby bump in the lingerie. Also no issues with that. The next one, however, is one that I feel incredibly uncomfortable by. And it's when I see more of the context that comes from the actual video, which is also linked on the Victoria's Secret page. It's a picture of the little girl wearing a pink bathrobe. Now she's between her mother's legs and her mom's wearing high heel shoes. Her legs are really high cut. So you can't see the lingerie, but it kind of gives the illusion of like going up and she's like down on all fours and she's wearing this little bath robe, but the bathrobe is split open. So you can see all the way up the top of this little girl's
Starting point is 00:19:19 legs as well. That one I felt visibly uncomfortable with when I saw that one. The next one is a picture of her mom of Elsa in like a black lingerie set. And the little girl is holding onto her mom's G-string and pulling the G-string out to the side, laughing, looking up at her mom while her mom looks off the camera. The next one is Elsa wearing a black bra and black leggings down on her hands so she's like kind of like on her knees and she's cut off at the head so it's just her body and it's the little girl wearing again that pink bathrobe but she's putting on her mum's black high heels the very last one that I really want to talk about is Elsa laying down on her back in a g-string that you actually can't see you can see both of her butt cheeks she's
Starting point is 00:20:03 wearing that little tiny cut out and then she's got like the baby doll lace over the top and she's doing like an airplane with her daughter so her daughter is laying on her legs they're like having what would be a very sweet intimate moment between a mother and daughter but it's the fact that Elsa is in incredibly exposing lingerie and also in an incredibly exposing position whilst having her daughter there there's other photos as well but that kind of gives context as to why when we saw this we all had a moment of disbelief that this was the campaign that they went ahead with for their Mother's Day shoot. And just to set the scene here, the little girl, like the three or four year old daughter, she is almost always covered up. It's not that the daughter has been
Starting point is 00:20:45 sexualized. She's wearing in a lot of the photos, like it's almost like an adult version of a trench coat. So it's, it's swarming her. It's supposed to be maybe looking like she's put her mom's clothes on, but it's not that it's showing a lot of skin or it's sexual for her. But when you zoom out and put it in the context of she's holding onto her mom's leg or pulling her mom's underwear a little bit like there's one where she's pulling the string on a mum that's where it crosses a bit of a line because on first glance I'm not gonna lie when I first saw it if I was just scrolling past my immediate thought wasn't oh that's really wrong my immediate thought was like oh Mother's Day campaign I couldn't care less right because I'm not interested in that but
Starting point is 00:21:24 I was like I didn't get this overt sexual thought until Keisha sent it and then I re-looked at it through a different lens and I thought you know what this is actually really bad it's interesting you say that because when I saw the trench coat that was actually the first image that I saw and I saw the child in the trench coat the trench coat for me was a really really weird take because and I don't know if this is like I don't know maybe I've got a dark brain but to me the whole idea of like a lingerie brand and a trench coat there's the association of what's underneath yeah you wear you know the trench coat over the sexy lingerie and you turn up at the door and then or or like a flasher kind of vibe. And so even small things like that, very deliberate choices to put
Starting point is 00:22:06 a child, a four-year-old child who is posing next to a woman in very sexy, lacy lingerie in a trench coat to me seems really off. And I wasn't the only one. The comments on the post that ended up being taken down, some comments were kind of weird, not going to lie. During the Epstein Files era is crazy. And so no one is questioning the child being in a Victoria's Secret ad because that's definitely not okay. There were like a very large amount of comments of a similar type. It is of course okay for women and mothers to be multi-dimensional and to wear lingerie and to feel sexy and to celebrate motherhood. All of those things can and are true. But Victoria's Secret we know is a brand that has been in its essence since the very beginning
Starting point is 00:22:50 designed for the male gaze. It is a brand that has very heavily lent into a hyper-sexualized version of women. And I know they've been trying to change that over the past. They've kind of gone through this like almost like this quite unusual, I guess, rebranding that they've tried to do. A lot of people have called them out for it, for it being inauthentic, for them slipping back into their old ways. And this to me is a very clear and I guess very intentional decision that seems like the old Victoria's Secret. It's a brand that's been created that's hyper-sexualized and at the end of the day the intention is to sell lingerie but to who to men to women certainly not to children but there is a child in the ad anyway and it just the whole thing feels so fucking
Starting point is 00:23:34 disgusting to be honest and you also have to think about victoria's secrets page has nearly 80 million followers alone that's the page alone before they've collabed with the models who have between like 7 and 12 million followers of their own who do you think those followers are like we don't know but have a think of what percentage of 80 million people on a sexy lingerie page are going to be men or women i would be fascinated to find the split but i can guarantee you the majority of those would be men and i wish we had the visibility to see how many of pictures were saved you know how you can see like saved and sent and things like that it's disturbing to think about the picture on its own is one problem but that picture on its own on the page that it's
Starting point is 00:24:19 on collaborated with the idea of like the fantasy bra. Like you've got to think of what the lingerie is even called. Their most famous bra is the fantasy bra. This page is full of men. And I know we say not all men, but at the end of the day, you put a kid next to a model that is so hot. Like this model is so sexy. She's so beautiful. Then you put her in lingerie and then you've added those little tidbits, like the trench coat, like the high heels, like the pulling down of the underwear? And what do you think is going to happen? I guess the big question for me is whether or not this was an intentional act or whether it was an oversight. Like, did they intentionally include a child in something that's hypersexualized or was it that they were creating a photo shoot
Starting point is 00:25:00 and they didn't really think through the ramifications of what this would and could be perceived as? The reason why I ask that is because it wasn't just created by Victoria's Secret. There is a secondary agency. It's called Spread the Jelly, which is a terrible name, but it actually is a motherhood agency. It's an agency that's run by women. They're creative directors. They are the creative visionaries, I guess, around the campaigns. I've looked into it and what they do is they center these stories
Starting point is 00:25:26 around motherhood and around mothers. And by all accounts, a lot of the work that they do is quite brilliant. This, however, feels very different. And that's why I'm questioning, like, was it an oversight? Are they kind of thinking, oh, God, yeah, maybe we missed the mark on this one, as brands can do and will make mistakes from time to time. they've listed out everyone who was involved in this like spread the jelly campaign and they've listed out every single person from like the makeup artist the photographer the stylist the
Starting point is 00:25:51 hair everyone now that they're all women the entire crew is women but the very last person is the executive creative director and his name is adam selman now adam selman works for victoria secret and even though he's the last person that's listed on that entire campaign and collective shoot he is arguably the most important as the executive creative director the buck stops with him. He is the person that has the most oversight over how that shoot comes together. He's the visionary that decides whether or not a shoot is actually upholding the brand's identity. So he's kind of the one that at the end of the day would look at something in totality and go, this is right for Victoria's Secret. And so I kind of felt weird when I looked through this list and I was
Starting point is 00:26:31 like, why did they put the guy who is the most important person at the end? Are they trying to be like but no this was created by all these women so it's above board it really to me just spoke as though I don't know I was left with this feeling of like was it an oversight was it intentional and if it's intentional why are we still in 2026 sexualizing children in our content I think saying that it was an accident or an oversight is giving so much allowance like this brand is so tainted with its past I mean a little bit of a recap and the reason that that comment about Epstein was made is because, and here are a couple of dot points that I want to read out because I want to make sure I get the facts right. Victoria's Secret was owned by a guy called Les
Starting point is 00:27:12 Wexner. He was the founder of L Brands, which was a huge company. It was incredibly successful and very profitable. Wexner hired Jeffrey Epstein as his personal financial manager in 1987 and he gave him power of attorney over the entire estate. Epstein regularly attended Victoria's Secret fashion shows. He hosted the models at his New York home. He used his connection to Wexner to pose as a recruiter for Victoria's Secret, which was a role that he used to lure in young women. A female executive reported to Wexner in 1993 that Epstein was using the Victoria's Secret name as a cover. Wexner said he would put a stop to it. He didn't sever ties with Epstein until 2007, which was 14 years later. And a little bit further into this, Wexner's name appeared more than a
Starting point is 00:27:58 thousand times in the Epstein files. In February of this year, it was revealed that the FBI had once listed Wexner as a potential co-conspirator to Epstein. That guy also doesn't own the company anymore. It was sold a couple of years ago. The CEO of Victoria's Secret is now a woman. Well, I think the important part of that, Keish, is that he left the company in 2020. That's only six years ago. If your brand as a company has been marred so badly by having someone who is the head of it who has been embroiled in something so horrific as a brand that's trying to rebrand yourself and I don't know why we're surprised because we talk about Victoria's Secret and have done so many times on this podcast if you're a brand that's deeply entrenched in trying to
Starting point is 00:28:38 rebrand yourself you would have enough forethought to think this is not appropriate 100% I feel like any assistant could see that this was not appropriate for Victoria's Secret like your brand is already so tainted with this horrendous past you think that it's just okay and oh it's just a bit of an oversight that we have a child pulling on a g-string in a trench coat and high heels like what the fuck are you guys thinking I actually disagree Keish in terms of I do think that this was an oversight in a way and I agree with what you're saying absolutely everything that you just said I mean you can't disagree with it's all factual the reason I say I think there's a level of ignorance in a way here is because I find it hard to say it's intentional
Starting point is 00:29:21 and use the word intentional when you have these mothers that are collaborating on this campaign with their child. I think if you said, hey, we're going to do this campaign, we're going to make it look really sexy and we're going to think like a lot of pedos are going to save it. The mums aren't saying, fuck yeah, let's do it. The spread the jelly that's run by women and supposed to be empowering women aren't going to be like, yeah, that's a great idea. I truly think there was a level of deep ignorance in what this campaign is. And I think they got it wrong because they've tried to angle it as wholesome and family oriented. And this was them in a way trying to steer away from the sexiness. One of the other models, Adriana Lima, she modeled with her
Starting point is 00:30:03 daughters who are teenagers and they took the pajama angle. So they're like on the couch in pajamas. It's absolutely fine. There's another model, Jasmine Tooks, who has her little baby in the pictures as well. And I know this because I've followed her for a little while. She has made a choice of not showing her child's face online. Like, you know, a lot of people put their kids up, but they always just try and have their face away or just their back or whatever. So she seemingly has always made this choice of not showing the face. It's then unusual for me to see screenshots from her campaign video where her baby is naked. Like there is a photo where she's holding him up in the air but I thought what a weird choice to say hey I'm gonna keep the face private but I'll
Starting point is 00:30:45 put a nude grab on the internet to 80 million people like that just doesn't seem conducive to me but I truly think from their perspective as a mother as three mothers they were sold and thought that this would be like okay this isn't going to be sexy it's supposed to be just like these beautiful moments with your child I don't think that that was intentional on their behalf now that's not me saying it's okay because it's still not and you would think in 2026 with the history that victoria's secrets has had that the models would be big enough and this mother's campaign spread the jelly would be big enough to be like do you know what it would be fucking wild with what is happening in the world right now and with victoria's secrets history to put kids in a
Starting point is 00:31:27 campaign like it should have never been on the mood board like it should have never been on the promotional board, but it was, but I don't think that the parents and the models and the mums were intentional with putting this on there to be sexy. I don't think that the lack of intention takes away from it being problematic in any respect. But the reason why I think it's so easily looked over is like, we actually have been really, we've talked about this a little bit around how we're going to share this because we don't want to contribute to sharing photos that we think are inappropriate. But at the same time, it's very tricky to have this conversation and describe these images and also like have you as a listener being that podcast is an audio medium go
Starting point is 00:32:05 oh yeah we agree because how can you if you haven't seen the photos but it was interesting to me to see how many people have liked or commented positively on these pictures and didn't see anything wrong with it because they're not looking for the things that necessarily people who have been conditioned to understand what sexualizing a child looks like online would see and there are people who are commenting on there being like I just see a beautiful campaign with a mother and daughter and I'm like yes that is one way of looking at it but I think it goes back to what we said earlier around the context of who is the viewer and knowing that Victoria's Secret is a highly sexualized brand who has loads of male audience members and loads of male followers
Starting point is 00:32:45 it totally changes the context of it and I mean to be fair even if it didn't have loads of male followers I think having a mum in a lacy g-string in a g-string that's being created purely for sexual fantasy. It's not creative for comfort. There's nothing about this lingerie that you would look at and go, I wear that on the weekend because I feel good around my house. Like you're wearing that because it's sexy. You feel sexy in it and you're probably doing it for someone else, not for yourself. Having a child in any part of that screams who the fuck thought this was a good idea. Ultimately, I guess the thing that was a surprise to me is how many people are defending it in the comments how many people are like if you are the one who sees this as sexual you're
Starting point is 00:33:28 the one that has a problem and I think in this instance if you see this as sexual you're not the person that has a problem if you don't see this as something that's sexual and inappropriate for a child then you certainly are not aware about the dangers online and how and where the responsibility lies for keeping those kids safe the other thing that I think is I guess an interesting question to ask and what you said Britt around you don't think Elsa Hosk went into this being like oh this is going to be a problematic campaign evidently she doesn't see it as being a problem she clearly doesn't think it's sexualization of her child because she wouldn't have posted if she did at least with let's give her that benefit of the doubt however where do
Starting point is 00:34:08 you think the responsibility lies is it totally on the brand to be the one to uphold the safety or is it her responsibility equally as the mother of that child to see I guess the dangers or the issues of which she is putting herself into by creating this type of content and I never want to be the person who kind of I guess has a pile on when it comes to the mum or motherhood like it is so hard as a mum to get things right all the time and I certainly think that we are so quick to blame mothers when there is a mistake but I do think that in this instance it was a surprising oversight for me that as a mom she didn't look at those photos and go okay maybe that's not a great way for my child to be represented online and maybe that photo shoot didn't turn out the
Starting point is 00:34:55 way that I intended it to so I'm not going to post it I think the darker question is did she have those questions and was the price tag worth it like she's obviously getting paid yeah did she have those I don't think that there is a I don't know if I've got really conservative values when it comes to things like this but my line on when sexualizing children comes into play is go as conservative as you want or you can I just don't imagine a mum could look at those images and not even have the thought of like hmm is my child potentially sexualized a little bit in this or is this going to be interpreted in a way that I wouldn't interpret it naturally and I wonder if she had those questions and she went yeah but I'm getting paid x amount of money
Starting point is 00:35:35 for it and so it's worth it for me like that is genuinely my question and I know I might sound like I'm being really judgmental, but that is actually how I feel. I do have judgment on her for allowing those images to go into publication. I just think the whole thing is really gross. I think what you've said about context of this brand is actually the most important part to me. You know, we spoke about whether we would feel this way if Nala Bras did this campaign with children, if Bonds did a campaign for Mother's Day that involved children, if bras and things, I would feel fine with that. You know, I know that it's a commercial thing and also children need underwear women need underwear like that's fine it's the sexualization of this and when i
Starting point is 00:36:13 actually kind of thought of an australian example i was like how would i feel if honeybird debt did a mother's day campaign that involved children and i feel the same as what i feel about victoria secret and it's specifically because of the way that these brands have established themselves and the identity of these brands and like that these brands have made their entire identity about sex which is fine it's completely fine in every other aspect just don't involve children Keisha, I disagree with that, what you said as well. Sorry. I disagree with it.
Starting point is 00:36:41 How do you disagree with that? With what part? No, I disagree with the fact that the only difference for me with putting a kid in an underwear ad, if it was Bonds or if it was Nala or whatever it is to Victoria's Secrets is that Victoria's Secrets has an absolute juggernaut of a platform and obviously does have the sexiness attached to it. But at the end of the day, and I know this is going to sound deep, at the end of the day a pedophile doesn't really care he will take a child if it's in a lingerie ad no matter what
Starting point is 00:37:11 the ad is if the photo is out there the photo is out there like the problem is not just that it is on a sexy platform I don't think you should have kids in any underwear adverts anywhere it's just that we have platformed it to 80 90 100 million people in Victoria's Secrets and I know you said you feel differently if it was in a bonds underwear ad at the end of the day it's still underwear a pedophile doesn't care I see your point I do I just feel slightly like the intention of the brand is different but I you do make a really good point about the fact that like pedophiles don't care that's why it's just even wilder to me that Victoria's Secret with the tainted past that they have that with this connection to Epstein and the fact that it has been the main thing that
Starting point is 00:37:51 the entire world spoke about this year that someone who works in marketing for a company like that would not have seen this coming that's why I'm like I'm not giving them the allowance of like whoopsies we didn't realize like how how do you have that job if you don't foresee this being a thing there was a an influencer that i follow his name is barrett pal like p-a-double-l uh he has over a million followers on instagram he's on threads on tiktok he's everywhere but he is a survivor himself he was i think when it started he was maybe 17 he was like one of the og abercrombie and fitch models and he was quite involved with bringing them down because if you don't know who they are the owners of Abercrombie and Finch were also done for trafficking and sex crimes basically
Starting point is 00:38:36 against a lot of their young models yeah against a lot of him speaking out was the reason it got investigated yeah so he spoke out he actually didn't speak out you know he started to put a few little suspect comments on different things like just throwing comments out there right not on his own page but like on other posts and things like that and then a reporter I think for the BBC don't quote me but a journalist who was investigating anyway saw one of these like suspect comments and was like oh I'm going to investigate that got in contact with him and that's how it sort of unraveled so it's not that he put his hand up and was like I'm going to speak out finally but that is absolutely what he does now his whole page he dedicates everything to
Starting point is 00:39:13 advocacy for victims and for survivors and to make change and against misogyny he's really great person so like if you guys want to go follow him I think he's fantastic but he posted on threads He said, is this weird to anyone else? In 2026, Victoria's Secrets putting children in capital letters in their ads with their mums is just weird. With everything going on right now, this just feels like they are laughing in our faces. And I think if there's one thing that we can do, if you are on the fence about something like this and you are unsure which way to go, something you can do is listen to a survivor and listen to somebody that has literally lived this exact same thing. He's talking about his experiences and he is saying, how are we doing
Starting point is 00:39:56 this? Like I have been through this. Why are we not learning from what is happening in the world right now? And we've, we've barely touched on it. We're probably not going to unpack it in this episode. We all know what is happening with the Epstein files in, if you don't go and have a look at that. But when that has consumed the last few years of conversation on these people that are in power and these big companies and what they are doing to minors and then still making the active choice to include your kids in a lingerie campaign just seems insane. I think the full circle of this is like going back to this concept around Mother's Day is an incredibly commercially viable time of year right it really is and I know that that's how we started and it was started by making jokes but
Starting point is 00:40:39 the thing is you can talk about motherhood and you can talk about being a mum in a campaign for any brand that is fine like that is okay it's the inclusion of having children you don't need to have children in the campaign to establish that it's got something to do with motherhood and I would dare ask the question like it's very evident for us or it's so obvious to anyone like if you were to be selling vibrators and to have a child in that campaign you would be like that's fucking weird there would be no question but it's okay for mums to want to buy a vibrator I mean like if anything, moms need them more than anyone. Okay. We need to relax too. So I think that there's like a very viable campaign and conversation that could happen from a vibrator
Starting point is 00:41:22 brand, which is like, Hey moms, go treat yourself or treat the mom in your life because it's mother's day and she deserves it. But we all can rationalize that it would be totally inappropriate to have a child in that. When you think about lingerie, yes, lingerie is meant to make you feel good. Yes. It's very sexual and absolutely women are meant to be multidimensional and we are allowed to be sexual. It's just like, it seems like such a, such a really inappropriate step for a brand that knows that they're selling sex to some degree to go, you know how we're going to connect our Mother's Day campaign this year? By putting the kid in the ad. That'll really connect us to being this wholesome motherhood storytelling moment. It just simply isn't. It is time for our suck and
Starting point is 00:42:07 our sweet of the week, our highs and our lows. I was going to say, what is your high? But you made a new friend i have friends my suck is and i know this is breaking the rules because i've already said it but it's the suckiest thing of the week i got shat on by the bird so we don't need to go into that but nothing else bad happened to me this week so i'm really flying you just wait for all the good luck that's coming your way so that's going to be the sweet of your week you're like win a house win the lottery like money's gonna start falling out of the sky with all that manifestation you've been doing all right i can send some sarcasm in there yes i'm waiting for my good luck and I'll manifest at the same time so imagine once I've crossed manifestation with
Starting point is 00:42:45 being shut on and my good luck I'm gonna be unstoppable nothing's gonna stop me my sweet of the week is probably baby Maya my niece Sherry's daughter has started to ask for me and now I know it sounds like a small thing but she'll like Sheridan will record her saying like honey bit bit bit bit like because she wants to call me on the phone and so now that I guess obviously you know what it's like Laura I don't really but now that we've taken that next step and she can put two and two together and I guess there's a feeling of like she misses me almost she knows who I am enough to want to engage do you know what I mean I don't know there's something about it because she's the cutest thing ever she's always excited when we chat and like she'll say hello and she
Starting point is 00:43:28 doesn't really speak much to be honest but now that she has asked for me and gave me all the feels I was like she wants me I'm wanted I've got two friends baby Maya and this new random girl she doesn't speak a lot but she is also just one she's 18 months yeah no that is that is the friggin cutest thing ever actually my sweet for the week is I have a couple but I'm gonna try and make them brief my sweet which is coupled with my suck is that Poppy's teething so we've had like every night this week she's been up crying but the sweetest like she cut her first tooth and I only noticed because she was like gnawing on my finger and I was like wow what was that and she has this like tiny razor sharp little pincers teeth that's come through and it's like just on
Starting point is 00:44:08 one side so cute my little baby is growing up cherish every moment it goes so fast and then my okay my actual sweet for the week is that i have these amazing neighbors right you guys met them at my birthday party they are the fucking best didn't she die your neighbor yeah she died she wasn't amazing the other ones are amazing though the american couple okay amazing can guarantee they were such a vibe at your party. They were so much fun. They're so, so fun. And like Hannah, who is, I hope she listens to this, but Hannah, who is the mom, she is like the holiday making queen. When Christmas comes around, she's like, come over. It's Christmas trivia. I think I even vibed the Christmas trivia at the time. She's like Halloween. Every holiday occasion is
Starting point is 00:44:51 they go so big, so big. Do you think it's because they're American? Yeah. And they're like a very festive bunch aren't they they get very few holidays it's nothing like I've ever seen before and I'm so here for it I'm here for the enthusiasm but the other night she was like hey come over on Saturday night we're doing a 90s themed camping night and I was like what is that and she's like just for the kids in the backyard and I was like okay so we rocked up they pitched a tent we cooked sausages over a fire in the backyard it was a full themed 90s camping night for the kids and for us as adults the kids all had flashlights they were running around the backyard it was so fun and I had this moment where Keisha I was like this is what making your life more whimsy is this is a
Starting point is 00:45:36 whimsy moment I love Hannah I need to be better friends with Hannah can you set me up on a blind date with Hannah so I can get shit on by a seagull please it was the whimsiest thing of my life and you know it was it could have just been a Saturday night barbecue but instead it was a 90s themed camping night and the kids had the time of their lives and so did i sorry i actually i said to you at the start of the year that maybe we can add little themes to things like if you're catching up with your friends make it like you all wear pink or something and you were like that's the stupidest thing i've ever heard i also said i also said it was the 10 that would mean i wouldn't go but what i realized is i'm really down for themes if other people plan them i will be there i will
Starting point is 00:46:17 enjoy it with full enthusiasm but not in theme laura you don't scream whimsical to me don't take that the wrong way but you don't give whimsical but I love that you're involved in it and Keisha's whimsical was different I saw her post something on socials last week that was like whimsical and she just added colored laces to her shoes I got messages from people being like yeah if you're eight years old like I was like cut off Keisha Matt did screenshot it and he sent it to me and he said who's gonna tell Keisha it looks terrible he actually messaged me what did he say looks like you tied your shoes up with a pair of lace undies and I wrote back and said you sound like Karen and he said they look great he fucking lied to me he did he lied to you on this podcast
Starting point is 00:47:03 fucking hell did look like they'd been tied up with a pair of lace undies from Victoria's Secret just put a five-year-old next to Keisha's sexualizing her feet certainly fans oh yeah we'd do that that's my job I'm the only one of the three of us who sexualize their feet anyway guys that is it from us if you have anything for Ask Uncut or you have any questions for us slide it into the DMs at Life Uncut Podcast.
