Life Uncut - WE ARE BACK BABY!!!!

Episode Date: January 27, 2026

Hey Lifers! We’re properly back after a few weeks off and we missed you all so much! We also have a brand spanking new TV show that we are hosting to tell you about! Our holidays were very differ...ent. Britt has been slothing her way into Italian life and objectively not looking her best. Laura has become particularly acquainted with the young pharmacist and is repetitively speaking about how they are not having a 4th child.None of us took part in the ‘flashback to 2016’ trend because some of us allegedly look like entirely different human beings and those memories deserve to stay in the past! We all interpreted the memo to create 2026 ins and outs differently. Laura is the only one who understood the assignment but we’ve found an unlikely soberish candidate for 2026.  You’ve likely heard of ‘admin night’ but would you try any of these? Batch meal prep party Photo cleanup and memory swap — sort phone photos together and share stories behind old pictures Clothes edit and swap — declutter wardrobes and do a clothes swap with friends Inbox detox session — delete, unsubscribe, and organise your email Password reset party — spend an evening updating passwords and enabling security Swipe party - where you all swipe the apps together   You can watch us on Youtube Find us on Instagram Join us on tiktok Or join the Facebook Discussion Group Hosted by Britt Hockley & Laura Byrne Produced by Keeshia Pettit Video Produced by Vanessa Beckford Tell your mum, tell your dad, tell your dog, tell your friend and share the love because WE LOVE LOVE! Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi guys and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. I'm Laura. I'm Brittany and we're back baby. We are back. Mate wasn't that a holiday and a half? I think we're the last podcast in all of Australia to come back from a relaxing break. That is actually so inaccurate but we we did yes we did prioritize our health and our wellness and our our mental health and it was the only break we had of the year so yes we did have a month off did you prioritize your wellness and your mental health that sounds very 2026 well done i'm proud of you i didn't do you know what i've actually never been sicker i wanted to prioritize my health it's been a rough start but we won't get into that yet we're back we have had a wonderful break i think all three of us had very different breaks
Starting point is 00:00:53 am I right? Well this is kind of a little bit of a taste test okay this episode because it's our very first long distance record of what will be one in our new studio to one of many long distance records that we're going to be doing now that you're in Italy and we took an hour and a half to figure out the setup today so like it's going to be great we're going to get there and things are going to be far more streamlined in a couple of months fingers crossed. I will say I feel a lot more professional like we've been doing distance isn't a new thing right we've been doing the podcast via distance sporadically over the last six years but this is the first time that I have like set up my own little studio and I feel very professional it feels profesh and how did your
Starting point is 00:01:30 headphones go over it plugged into the wrong hole straight into the wrong hole so I was like guys I can't hear you I can't hear you it wasn't even plugged in and I'm like FaceTime flip the screen around so I can see what you can see and I was like yep settings right all right check your roadcaster and then you just happen to flick the camera back and I could see the back of the machine. And I was like, yeah, there's no cord plugged in. Can I tell you the funniest part about that? The headphones were plugged into the road in the right spot. I was so confident. I was like, oh, that's not right. I'll get ahead of the game. And I took them out and put them into the wrong hole. And I was so confident. I was like, do you reckon this is the first time that someone
Starting point is 00:02:06 said I've accidentally put it into the wrong hole and it being about headphones? On this actual podcast? Yeah, it's truly for that. But you know what though, we have had very different holidays And one thing, which looking at you now, Britt, versus the version of you that was on our FaceTime prep call last night, I am in disbelief. Like, I cannot stress this enough. So when Britt said she's had, you know, not been well, you've been doing the skin cancer treatment, which for anyone who's listened to the podcast in the past, Britt's been doing this like on-off treatment, which literally just burns off multiple layers. I'm surprised you've got face left after how many times you've given it a nudge. Honestly, this is the fourth time I have done it. I've done different versions of it.
Starting point is 00:02:42 Like you can do a different cream with a different activator light, all this kind of stuff. But if you've been following my socials or the pod for a while, you know that I've got this thing called a pre-skin cancer. It's called solar keratosis. It's not overly uncommon. I do not have skin cancer now. I want everyone to know that.
Starting point is 00:02:58 I don't want that to get out. But if what I have is left, it can develop into a skin cancer. So you have to like nip it now. You have to get rid of it now. And what you do is you have to get this topical chemotherapy, which is so hectic. and so you do it you put it on your face every day for twice a day for six days and then you stop but it continues to develop over like a two-week process and Laura and I have not really
Starting point is 00:03:21 we sort of went on holidays and texted but we haven't facetimed so Laura hadn't seen my face we've been in touch the whole time and also I've been seeing you on social media but I didn't it's a lie when you called me on facetime last night I was like oh my god we're well rested looking good yesterday when we facetimed was the peak day right and my face I cannot tell you it's the whole thing is the most like intense rich blotchy scabby woundy red pussy I can't even explain it like my face has just been eaten off say it slower it's it was it was not hot it was like the it was not hot but right now the reason that I'm if you zoomed in you'll probably see it I have put makeup on and i have a heavy duty double wear estee lauder not sponsored but like this thing
Starting point is 00:04:07 is like cement on my face so i've done my best to cover it well i know that it's not sponsored by estee lauder double wear but i do want to say this that foundation is working overtime and it is good give it a vibe give it a second props it deserves it i'm glad to see that you're here i loved your ask uncut that you did with ben during the break i like love that you were over there that this is finally happening this big move we've been talking about for so long but also on top of that you're back in two weeks time actually it's just been announced today because we're recording this a little bit in advance but we are doing a tv show over the next couple of months it's coinciding with married at first sight maths and it's called after the dinner party so you guys
Starting point is 00:04:45 know that we always talk about different maths things on this podcast anyway and maths after the dinner party is like an unpacked show based on everything that happens like all of the drama that's what it's about it's not just all the drama but it's gonna have like after the dinner party we'll be interviewing the people on there, the couples and what goes down and they'll be able to give like their side of the story. Cause I always say there's 25 sides to a story. So we're going to be getting all the sides on the show. Maths is such a conversation starter in our social circles and in our generation. And it's cool that they were like, Hey, you guys unpack this. How do you feel about coming on stand and unpacking it there? And we're like, say less,
Starting point is 00:05:23 say less. We will say more, but you can say less. And like you said, Britt, it's a conversation starter. People see different behaviors play out on screen that they then recognize that and what it was that's happened in their own relationship and then they find a label for it. Do you know what I mean? Or you see behaviours or you see conversations that go down and it's like being inside other people's therapy sessions, right? It's why it is one of Australia's biggest TV shows.
Starting point is 00:05:44 It's why we all end up talking about it. It's why it absolutely runs the news cycle when maths plays out and it will not only be running the news cycle now, it will be running our lives because we will be watching every episode. We will be unpacking every episode and we also get behind-the-scenes footage which is not shown on the show. we get like BTS stuff that's exclusive to after the dinner party which we'll be able to share with you guys as well it's gonna be fucking great I can't wait this is not promo-y I actually am
Starting point is 00:06:09 curious how do we watch it it's on stan on stan okay and when does it air we will promote it we'll promote it you guys will know you'll fucking know when it's ready you gotta know you gotta know that was not me being like we need to get the plug in I actually genuinely don't know the answer and the answer to that is we don't know yet either but we will tell you when we know we do know I think that this coming season is going to be the biggest one yet that's the way that they have described it like maths and Stan have said it's the biggest season yet and I reckon men women grandmas grandpas everyone's going to be on it right Ellie Johnson strap yourself in all right well when we do know and we can talk about it more freely when we know the exact dates
Starting point is 00:06:46 and everything that's playing out you guys will hear it first that's for sure but Brit what are the updates in terms of like how has Italy been what's been happening I know your life now is basically there and you were coming back for a short period of time but what's it been like since you've been there well I'm back today when this episode comes out I'm back in Australia but it's been amazing and I've been trying to think of the words to describe it it has been so amazing to be with Ben but like it wasn't a brilliant start I got off the plane and had like not only the worst jet lag but I had the worst migraine I'd had in so long so I get off the plane poor ben i come in hot with a migraine i have to go to bed for a day and a half then i've got probably
Starting point is 00:07:27 the worst period i've ever had and then we finally had sex we finally had sex when i came out i came out like a swamp donkey as you would like to call me laura like emerged from my dark den probably looking worse for wear we finally had sex then i got the worst uti it was just like it was every then i burnt my face off ben's like you are a swamp donkey he's like what's happening you married me and now it's too late. It was wild. It was a really wild start. But besides that, like all jokes aside, it has been amazing to be here and try and settle in. It's been five weeks, which is really great. On the flip side, I'm pretty bored. I'm not going to lie. No one listening to this has sympathy. It's pissing blood, Laura. Have a little bit of
Starting point is 00:08:12 sympathy. That's true. That's true. Only because it's winter. If it was summer, I'd be thriving, but it's it's really cold here Ben works every day doesn't get time off I have no friends here my Italian is like flushed down the toilet my Italian's so bad so I just feel like I'm on my own all day and you can't be out you can't like normally I'd go adventuring all day and do all this stuff but it's just so cold so I end up just going home and being a swamp donkey I mean you've only had five weeks so I don't want to like overshoot it in terms of what your expectations are or what they were do you think it'll match what you hoped I know obviously the time with Ben will be but because your version of Italy was when you were there you know 10 or 15 years ago
Starting point is 00:08:49 and that time in your life you were like carefree and traveling and now you're over there working and stable and staying in the one spot with a UTI with the UTIs are out of control it will be better for sure in summer but moving overseas like I've done it a few times it's really hard and it gets harder the older you get because when you're younger and you're backpacking and it's so much easier to meet people like it's so much easier to go to a bar when you're in the backpackers like everyone's solo traveling but when you're at the ripe old age of 30 something that I am it's harder because there's no one to you don't just go to a backpackers you don't go to a bar on your own like I just don't do that stuff so it's a little bit harder I am gonna love it but I always knew for me
Starting point is 00:09:34 know my life I know my days I know my routine at home like I know my gym I know my soul like I have my places that I love all the food that I love to eat everything and I miss that from here like I miss Delilah the walking to my swim spot with her the going to the gym getting the sauna it sounds so silly I've got all my friends that I can just meet up with for coffees and it's it's a really big adjustment for sure and it will be and I think in all honesty I'll be really lonely because a lot of the time I'll be on my own but I think the good thing is I'm gonna balance it really well If I was coming here for a year nonstop, I'd find it really hard. But, like, I'm going to be back and forth to Australia all the time.
Starting point is 00:10:13 So I think once I find my feet and my groove and get a routine and stuff, I think I'll be sweet. And once my UTI is under control, I'll be good. How long did it last for? It's been a while since I've had a UTI, one of those little pests. It was because I'm not a – you know how some people get frequent UTIs? That's not me. I don't get them frequently.
Starting point is 00:10:30 But it went from zero to 100. I went to bed just feeling the tiniest bit not right, woke up, and I was, like, a bit uncomfortable, still didn't even think it was UTI. Within, like, an hour and a half, it was blood. Like, I was weeing blood and I couldn't walk. Yeah. I was, like, if I don't get medication in, like, two hours, I was going to be at the hospital.
Starting point is 00:10:49 But I couldn't even go and get the medication. So Ben's football doctor had to write UTIs. Ben had to go to his football doctor and get them to write a UTI script, like the big football doctor. It's so funny. So he had to write a UTI script. then they sent the script to Becky who's Ben's sister and then she had to shop around pharmacies for the right product and bring it to me because everything was closed so there was like one
Starting point is 00:11:15 pharmacy open so like I'm just sitting at home bleeding out I thought my life was over and all of Ben's family and friends like going all over the town to try and find me a UTI medication it wasn't my finest moment to come for the rescue no but to be fair I think that there's been some research done when you say like some people get them all the time I actually think it's linked to not just you but it's also linked to the person that you're having sex with do you know i mean like there's some partner combinations where you get more utis i'm not saying it's ben sorry ben but like i was like ben probably not like that i have been through periods like i've dated some guys where like every other fucking month i ended up getting a uti but then like have never had one
Starting point is 00:11:51 with matt for example i do think that there's like look this is not a medical podcast do not take any of my advice this is also i may have read it on a no no it's actually science backed So, like, obviously you have microflora inside of your... It was literally like my vagina was like, no, he's so bad for you. Yes. He'll die. Some people, you just, like, it just doesn't, it's not symbiotic. Sometimes you just, your microflora doesn't get on with their microflora.
Starting point is 00:12:17 And the vagina is particularly, and I'm putting this in quotation marks of what I learned at university, a hostile environment. It's hard for shit to live in there. Yeah, that's why it bleaches your underwear. No? Okay, cool. Just me? Fun. No.
Starting point is 00:12:30 also a very real thing we need to talk about that more right another day we also have a new employee and his name's Lockie and he's the only man that now works for us and he's sitting in the corner just like what the fuck have I stumbled in on who is it who are these people is it too late to leave I want to set the record straight here Ben is not a hostile environment my vagina is not a hostile environment it was very welcoming that day god damn it okay he was very welcome it was very open but and I do want to say Ben and I are not allergic to each other I've had like two UTIs with him ever but they have been pretty pretty bloody extreme yeah but it's the worst yeah that was how I kick-started Italy so we've had better starts well I I mean look in terms of my updates
Starting point is 00:13:12 for my holidays I've discovered some mums are gonna hear this and tell me to shut up and that's okay fair I understand that but other people will absolutely relate to this I have discovered over the last five weeks that parenting your own children for 24 hours a day without any reprieve is really hard. It's really, really hard. And if you are a stay at home mom, your job is the hardest job in the entire fucking world is what it is because I have just done, we've done five weeks. Kids have been on holidays for a little bit longer than what they normally work. They had an extra week off. We've been down the coast. We've not had one day of a babysitter, one day of like help at all. Ellie was also staying at my sister-in-law's house. So she was staying with
Starting point is 00:13:48 Kate's kids and with Kate. So it was just Matt and I and three children. And look, it's the first time that I've ever had to parent 24 seven, three children. I've done two before. Three is a wild bit of gear. Okay. It really is. And so coming into work today and today being the very first day that I'm without Poppy, I have had to transition her onto the bottle so that Matt can give her a bottle while I'm away. My boobs are about to explode. It's an experience. 2026 is full of new and wonderful worlds, but you're not the only one who ended up at the chemist Brit for very different reasons so Matt and I decided that okay yes we have a newborn baby she sleeps really well and the kids have been great while we've been away and we were like we are gonna
Starting point is 00:14:33 make 2026 the year that we spend more time together and we have more sex well done to us right that's what that's our ins we're gonna get into our ins and our outs but this is our ins okay I was like I'm gonna fuck my husband more I promise okay I feel like you're about to say 2026 is the year of anal absolutely not I will never no I tried that in my 20s and it's not for me okay not for me talking of beauty also after birthing three children it's not what it used to be down there okay it's not for me I'm just surprised that you feel like you have to have more I feel like if any of my friends that have three children you probably have the best sex life of anyone I know no but the reason for this is because I actually feel as though if you don't
Starting point is 00:15:16 use it you lose it like I'm worried that if we don't have and don't continue that we will get like six months down the track and have a six month old baby and just we'll just not be having sex anymore because it'll be too hard and obviously during pregnancy there was a real lull and so I don't know I mean apart from getting strep throat which was also a while bit of gear during the holidays. I felt really good. I had like this real moment where I think it was like two, maybe a week and a half after New Year's, just before I got strep throat. And I was like walking down the street and I was like, I don't think I've ever felt better. Like I feel I've just gotten back into exercise. Poppy's sleeping really, really well. I was like, in terms of like this last year
Starting point is 00:15:57 of pregnancy and then the postpartum period, I was like, right now we're in a good run. So we're going to run it while we can. Anyway, it's been a good time for Matt. He had a great time. I also had a great time. However, the problem is because we've gone a really long time without doing anything. Also, Lockie, I'm so sorry. You're in my periphery. Okay. This is such like a baptism of fire for Lockie. He's like, what the hell have I done? And this is the total overshare. And this might be one of those moments where Matt says like, actually, you didn't need to provide that many details on the podcast but I'm gonna say it anyway and then ask for forgiveness so we hadn't been having much of anything to be honest and then obviously this holiday we were like okay cool
Starting point is 00:16:41 let's you know we're on holidays summer vibes so we did I overestimated the length of time of which the sex would last okay I thought it would be like normal I thought it'd be like normal I thought we would just get in there and we'd do our normal routine for seven minutes I thought three and a half minutes was an acceptable amount of time just like the 360 roll where you like start on your back, go to your side, go to your tummy, go to the other side. No, he even warned me. He was like, babe, it's been a while for me. He's like, this is not going to last long. And I was like, you'll be fine. We're fine. Everything's fine. Anyway, I was so close to having my moment, right? And Matt said, he's like, ah, I can't, no. And I was like, no, no, no, you don't, you're not going
Starting point is 00:17:15 anywhere. And so then we had this standoff mid sex, which resulted in me having to go to the chemist the next day with a baby strapped to me to buy the morning after pill. Oh my God, Laura. imagine I walked in there with Poppy strapped to me and I went to the pharmacist and I was like hi and you know how like even though there is no shame in it okay there is no shame there's a fuckload it's like why do we feel shame yeah there's no shame don't you shame me why are you I'm not shaming you I've been in this situation and they attempt to not have any shame there is implicit shame in the situation and you and you do it with a quiet voice and you walk up and you go hi sorry um I just need to get the morning after pill and they're like what and you're like
Starting point is 00:17:58 the morning after pill and they're like oh the morning after pill and you're like yes because I'm a dirty whore and you're like I'm so sorry with a baby strapped to the front of you were they not like um they're like you're a little bit late 11 months ago maybe yeah how long ago did you have so that happened and then as I'm standing there talking to the pharmacist and you know because it's a new world to me they've got all different pills now it's not just the one it's like if you've had sex within 24 hours 72 hours 48 hours there's all different types of pills that they can give you depending on the duration of which it's been since you've had sex they don't all work for the specific time frames so i'm having the conversation with the pharmacist
Starting point is 00:18:38 and we get three quarters of the way through it and then she leans over and she goes i love the podcast no fuck no no no it's never nice to be a fan in that circumstance no it actually was made me feel I felt safe I felt in good hands I was like you know me you know we've done this dance for six years then well that's the thing she's listened to for six years so she knows just sex life anyway she knows how you want to do it she probably asked you how how it was did she ask how long that lasted I'm actually offended that she didn't ask look I've been in a weirdly similar situation to this but on a much smaller pond scale back when I was doing radio I had a breakfast show in bendigo and bendigo small town the outer suburbs bit larger but small town
Starting point is 00:19:23 most people in the town know who the people on the radio are you know there's only four of us so i was in the situation that i needed to get it and so after work it was like nine o'clock you know breakfast show ended and i drove to the pharmacy which is three minutes away and i went in i had the conversation you know this is what i need and they make you i don't know if they still do this this was obviously quite a while ago but they made you go through like paperwork of you know your name date of birth health conditions blah blah and as I was sitting there talking with the pharmacist the radio was playing through the pharmacy on the speakers you're talking my fucking voice she's got the name because that's radio you don't necessarily know what they look
Starting point is 00:20:03 like but she pointed to the speaker and was like oh and pointed to me and pointed to the speaker and pointed back and I was like this is not the moment that I wish to have this interaction of like oh I listened to you no do you know what I think it's fine we're all friends here radio is a little more family friendly than our podcast and I just there was something about it that just made me feel so exposed do they have the conversation with you about contraception because I remember being in the situation being like I know that you are not trying to make me feel shame and I don't know if it's the conditioning i did grow up in the church so the whole sex before marriage thing was instilled in me as being a sin yeah we're all going to hell and having conversations as a grown
Starting point is 00:20:47 adult who is well aware of how you make children being told about my options of contraception and how i can avoid this in the future and it shouldn't be used as a fail safe because it's not always effective yeah imagine having that when you've got a baby strapped to your chest it's like it's like how did you not know that this is what happens anyway i'd love for the story to end there but it doesn't um it happened a second time I mean fool me once fool me twice that's on you I know the second time I sent Matt though so I I refused the second time it happened I was like no this one's on you buddy you're going so um I sent him in and he got into the chemist and this time it was a Matt described a very young boy who was working who he does not believe could be old
Starting point is 00:21:27 enough to be a pharmacist anyway there's also only one chemist in Ulladulla so it's not like you can go around to like multiple chemists and shop around the next one's in Milton so it was like the same chemist I was not going to go there a week later and ask for the same thing anyway Matt goes in he asked this pharmacist and the pharmacist says oh I can't serve it to you I can only serve it to the woman I can only serve it to the person who needs to be taking it so anyway Matt like kind of sweet talks him and eventually the guy was like okay just call your wife I need to have her confirm her identity so Matt calls me and he's like oh Laura I've got the pharmacist for you And I was like, oh, because my husband is irresponsible.
Starting point is 00:22:03 I need to have the morning article twice in two weeks. I was on loudspeaker to the whole of the camera. So with that out of the way, Matt has booked himself in for a vasectomy. So he. Has he? Yes. I don't know exactly when it's happening, but soon we'll be shooting blanks all over the place. That's what it took for him to book the appointment.
Starting point is 00:22:23 The shame of a phone call with a very young pharmacist. I don't think it was the shame. I think it was the sheer fear of the actual outcome of the very probable outcome of what would happen because we are two relatively fertile people and if I got pregnant again I would have a fourth so like that's on him fool fool him if he wants to go for gold life uncut can't handle the fourth we just can't we're not equipped we don't know we just don't have it we've got lucky now yeah he's our fourth kid he's you've got the son you always wanted he wanted a boy and he's here he just arrived in his 20s I think wait how old are you
Starting point is 00:23:00 24 and so tall and handsome just how I want them I mean sorry he if anyone wants to know he looks like Freddie Mercury he looks exactly like we need to put a photo up and welcome into the community but he looks like look f-dog that is literally the highlights of my holiday no there was many other highlights I don't know whether that was a low light or a highlight or just a light it was just a light it was a light it was something I wrote in the notes on my phone to tell on this podcast so it was worthy of the line it was written on I did have a moment where I was like I am the problem here and I don't want anyone to think that Matt's the irresponsible one because he really isn't I was having a great time and didn't want it to end okay I am the problem and
Starting point is 00:23:36 I know that and maybe there's some sick part of me that like could just be like maybe we'll go for one more but it's not true it's cooked I'm cooked I reckon there's part of you that does that's like a little bit of a psychopath that wants it I was like one of those housewife Mormons in a past life. I was with like 17 kids. Anyway, that was weird. I don't believe you. I want to hear it repeated. We're not having a fourth. Stop.
Starting point is 00:24:03 Let's just stop here. Laura, actions speak louder than words. Just because you say you're not, if it keeps coming in you, that's screaming something else. It's screaming let's have a fourth. It's screaming. Let's fucking do it. No, I know we're joking, but I will be honest with you. There was a lot of vasectomy chat
Starting point is 00:24:18 last year and I know some of it was like a little bit controversial. Actually, Matt was a bit that was probably the only time matt's been upset or offended about something that i have said on the podcast and it was the conversation we had around vasectomies because he was like that was framed in a way that's not how i feel he's like i don't want to not take responsibility for the contraception he's like i genuinely don't know if i feel totally done yet and we haven't had poppy she's not in the world now that we have her and she is in the world and we have three kids i can reassure and like reconfirm he's done he's very done he does not want any more kids so he's gonna
Starting point is 00:24:52 get that vasectomy and that will be the end of it but I'll tell you how it goes just ask them to bring it forward ask them to bring the appointment forward say it's an emergency imagine if it's an emergency vasectomy it's like an emergency c-section but it's an emergency I'm surprised the pharmacist isn't requesting it hey I would love to know this if anyone who listens to this has either had a vasectomy or your partner got a vasectomy did they bank some sperm first or did they just go get the vasectomy and they know that they're totally done because that's one thing matt was like maybe i'll bank some sperm and just keep it on ice and i was like but yeah but then you've got to pay for that like i have so much sperm on ice like ben's you have to
Starting point is 00:25:34 pay storage fees yeah if you want ben's baby i would love to see what it looks like i might never get the chance so i could see what yours and ben's look like now that's fucking weird it's funny the things that embarrass me now have changed so much to what would have embarrassed me like five or ten years ago oh no nothing embarrasses me anymore I think a lot of women hit it when they are menopausal but I've hit it early was it the smurf vagina chat that got you there not even that nothing that didn't embarrass me I reckon I could run down the street naked right now and I wouldn't be embarrassed I could do this podcast topless wouldn't be embarrassed no but this is the thing right I feel the same nothing embarrasses me but this one little moment
Starting point is 00:26:10 did and I don't know why I was just mortified so when I was flying over to Italy from Sydney so we're going back five weeks literally the day I was flying out now if you remember maybe you heard it maybe didn't but one of the last stories I told on the podcast was that for three years I discovered I'd been giving my frequent flyer points away to my ex I had been like using his frequent flyer number without knowing the whole time like every flight I've gotten to see my current husband his points have gone to my ex this is probably one of my favorite stories that you ever told Brie because it's usually me that's chaotic and doesn't like I'm the disorganized one that was the last story I told some outlets picked it up it was on the internet like we didn't
Starting point is 00:26:47 actually make yeah but that's not I don't care like we didn't make it in socials but some people did it was just it's just funny whatever but I knew it had gotten around and so I'm in the lineup to check in and the lady that's going to welcome me to the desk at Emirates looks up at me and I saw her look at me for a second then she looked back down got on with it then I ended up going to her she's like next please and so I walk over and she's like passport and I give her my passport and she looks at the passport she goes oh I knew I recognized you and I was like oh yeah yeah if I knew I'm on the radio and podcast and she's like I just knew it and then she looked up at me she went frequent flyer number please and I went oh fucking hell I've had better days and she just
Starting point is 00:27:34 looked at me blankly and she goes can I just no sorry ma'am can I have your frequent flyer number and I was like I know right what an idiot she's like ma'am I don't know what you're talking about she's like can you just I just need your frequent flyer number to check you in and I was like oh I was like sorry I thought you knew me and I just told a story about my frequent flyer and I thought you heard it she's like and I'm just like fumbling she's like I have no idea what you're talking about I was like I don't even know who you are what are you talking about and I started being like oh it's just that i i have a podcast i thought you're really famous i thought you knew everything about my life god the more you like the more you try to give context there the worse
Starting point is 00:28:12 it looks if you're like well there was this story where like you know i accidentally i know like how much context do you give to try and make it better it's like fucking dig upwards and shut up i was mortified but then she goes well hang on i need to know now what did happen so here i am at the checkout desk rehashing the whole frequent flies yeah i did i was like well strap in told her the whole story. I like that you gave her her own podcast episode without her ever having to listen to a show ever. And then I said, live, uncut, five stars, subscribe, Brittany, 10 for Temps and All. We're on YouTube. We wanted to make this episode more of a catch-up episode because it's obviously been five weeks since we've been on the show. We've actually had like a proper conversation
Starting point is 00:28:48 with each other and it kind of feels a bit late in 2026 now. Like I feel like we're already midway through the year and all of the new year's content has kind of surpassed. However, it is our first episode back and we haven't had a chance to kind of debrief on what this year looks like how it's different because from a podcast perspective it is a little bit different to last year as well and also like what is it that we want out of 2026 I have loved the trend that's been happening across social media recently which is like the flashback to 2016 one thing I did notice though is that no one in this room shared their 2016 flashback and I feel as though there must be a reason for this not because we are above Instagram trends because I think 2016 was absolute horseshit
Starting point is 00:29:29 for all of us and that's why we didn't want anyone to know about it. 2016 was the best year of my life. Why didn't you share? Because I re-shared something that a friend of mine posted of us in Paris. 2016 for me was the year that my life blew up and I had like a quarter-life crisis but it ended up great and I traveled a lot and then I got all these messages from people being like wow you look like a completely different person. It was really hurtful. I was like okay I didn't know that I had PCOS. I didn't know that I was a little bit of a party alcoholic. I wasn't actually. And I also didn't know that lip filler is really good. So fuck you. Yeah. I didn't have a top lip. Okay. That's what 2016 was.
Starting point is 00:30:06 I felt a little bit the same Keisha. I went back to my 2016 cause I was, I was like, maybe I'll do this trend, but I don't do it. I'm not a trend person. And when I do finally jump on trend, it was usually from five years ago and I'm too late. Well, it's usually five weeks too late, which is currently where we are at right now. So welcome everyone. I just genuinely didn't really have that many photos. I was in the first year of my three year like round the world trip. So I was in South America and it was just like before a time if Instagram was a bigger thing then for me, I would have had so many memories, but we didn't like I was with my sister. I didn't really have that many memories to find. And when I did find
Starting point is 00:30:42 them, I was like, that is not for the internet. And this cannot be immortalized for the rest of eternity on the internet. That's a private moment. So I just didn't get amongst it. I do look back on photos though. It's the ageing thing for me. I look at photos from 10 years ago and I didn't think that I had changed that much and then when I see them I'm like, oh, oh. I don't think that you look any different to when I started this podcast. Like Britt and I have gone through some real changes.
Starting point is 00:31:06 Hang on. Why don't you say that to me, Keisha? Fuck you. Sometimes Britt and I will just screenshot things that pop up in our memories and send it to each other and be like, wow, look at this. No. Do you know what we do? We check in first.
Starting point is 00:31:22 We're like, how's your mental health today? And we're like. Britt sent me one a couple of weeks ago. She literally said, how's your mental health today? And I was like, yeah, fine. Why? And she was like, I have a photo to send you. And it was from a trip that we went to in the Northern Territory.
Starting point is 00:31:35 I look like I've been stung by a thousand bees. I'm not exaggerating. Brittany was like, I actually didn't. I wouldn't recognize that this was you in the photo had I not have taken it. But I was the same. It looked like we both fell into a beehive. I don't know what happened. It was very hot.
Starting point is 00:31:50 We were allergic. No, we were all there together. It was very hot. It was very sweaty. But you look normal. No, I don't. Why do we look different? Okay, my 2016 though, this is not in the ins and outs,
Starting point is 00:32:03 but just a very brief recap. 2016 was a bonfire of a year. The only good thing, it's the year that I adopted Buster. It was the year that Ness and I moved in together into a house in Rushcutter's Bay. So I have like our moving in photos and everything else. Ness is our video editor for anyone who's new to the podcast and also it was the year that I went through the most catastrophic breakup and then dated a string of terrible men and I didn't
Starting point is 00:32:28 realize in how quick succession the dating was either I thought I had these really big relationships that lasted much longer but looking back I was like oh that one was two months and then a week later I was in another relationship and then I dated some guy who was actually fucking married and then there was all it was chaos and then I met Matt in February of the following year. So 2016 was my intense, absolute fuckery of relationship year. And then within two months of it ending, I met Matt and it's been nine years of us being together, which I only just realized the other day we've been together for nine years. Crazy. It's so funny that you said, oh, it's only just now when I went back to 2016, did I realize that like I monkey branched
Starting point is 00:33:06 and had all these relationships. We've done this for six years. How are you only just real? I know that that's who you were in 2016. No, I know I monkey branched. I only realized that some of these very intense relationships that felt really full-on actually was such a short duration of my life really in the scheme of things but at the time they felt very full-on and impactful especially the one that was towards the end when I then found out that he was still with his partner who he'd said he wasn't is now married and has kids with her so like there was a lot was going on in my life okay I have a lot of regrets anyway guys we did write down our 2026 ins and outs things that we want that are different for this year things that we think uh should put in the bin from last
Starting point is 00:33:44 year or beyond brit do you want to kick it off or do you want me to kick it off or quiche who wants to get this i always don't know if yeah i don't know if i ever do it right so you start all right okay my outs for 2026 are buying things off facebook meta ads i know i have unsubscribed from it but i didn't quite fulfill that in 2025 and i am not doing it anymore after the two things i bought in the black friday sale that i've never used okay that's a good one the timu app i don't know if anyone's ever downloaded it it's fucked take it off your phone it screams at you all the time it's like you get a free thing want this for free discount code discount code free 10 free things in your car it's free everything's free i'm free i didn't know you were like a timu app
Starting point is 00:34:23 kind of person i've never bought anything from timu did a meta ad make you download the app yes okay yes i downloaded timu i thought i was gonna buy some organizers 2026 i was like i'll get some plastic organizers but i have you know i feel as though i have been mentally abused by timu for the past month and i am unsubscribing timu do you know what happens on timu timu's the app like i've only bought one thing on there but i know that this is what they do they're the app that you don't actually know what you're buying so like i remember i bought delilah a jumper on there and i was like oh bargain looks great they had pictures of dogs and all this stuff and i got it and it was for like a figurine so it was like five centimeters big and i was like it's a tiny
Starting point is 00:35:01 little jumper for ants but like they don't tell you that it's probably a jumper for a dog ornament no my thing so much it's not so much the listings itself it's like I'm a real gamified person like if there's a game involved I'll stick around longer I think it does something to my dopamine so I had to spin a wheel and then I got a free thing and then I got a hundred percent off and then I ended up downloading the app and then it was like spin the wheel again and I was like fuck I'll spin the wheel again I could be a gambler I'm not but like in another life I probably was and then did it say give us all your bank details and you were like fuck okay I'll do that I have so many free things stacked in Timu, but I can't bring myself to go through with the purchase
Starting point is 00:35:35 because I feel abused. So we're done. Timu, we're breaking up. This is going to be an odd one for me because I do love myself a rosé. I had a moment over the holidays where I have decided that 2026 is not, and this, I didn't over drink that it didn't come off the back of a hangover or anything like that. I just had this real moment where I was like, I'm a mom to three kids and I want to prioritize my health and I want to prioritize not being fucking tired all the time. And so So my afternoon, one glass of wine is out the door and I haven't drunk this year at all. Wow. That's big for you.
Starting point is 00:36:09 I don't want to jump in and insert myself, but I feel like I've actually had the opposite revelation for 2026. And I text you guys, I can't actually remember which day it was that I text you guys, but for anyone who's listened to the podcast for quite a while, I'm not a non-drinker, but I'm about as close to a non-drinker as you can get. I'm like not a totally sober girly, but back in the day when I used to party a bit, I probably overshot it. And in the last couple of years, I have really turned my back on alcohol.
Starting point is 00:36:36 I realized that the anxiety it was causing was not good. And, and I was all about optimizing my life. And I've actually come to realize that it's fucking boring and I'm going back to drinking. Oh, she's back on the booze. I'm back baby. New Year's Eve. I had a fucking hoot and a half. i've actually just come to realize that sometimes things are a little bit more fun when you're a
Starting point is 00:37:00 bit buzzed keisha messages me after new year's and i was like oh you know i had like one glass of wine on new year's and keisha was like i'm fucking drinking in 2026 what has happened it was actually keisha i know you said you didn't remember when you messaged us it was new year's day you were like i'm back on the booze guys i was like it's you're like it's so much better all right let me rattle off the rest of these outs okay voice notes that are longer than one minute. If you send me one, I'm not listening to it. Keisha, that's to you. Group chats. You can play it on 1.5 speed. So therefore I have like one minute 20. Oh wait, I do have that in here. Okay. Group chats that require daily emotional labor. I won't be answering them anymore. If you
Starting point is 00:37:35 need me every day. You don't answer a normal message, let alone a group message. You don't answer anything. No phones, messages, Facebook messages, Instagram messages. Don't get me wrong. This does not, this does not mean for work. Cause that's not emotional labor. I mean, why did you look at us like that? Cause you're the only ones in the room. I mean, group chats that are friend group chats that require consistency every single day. If it's once every three days, once a week, I mean, if it's every day, ah, can't, there's no time. Okay. Yelling. I'm going to try and stop yelling because I feel like I have turned into a yelling mom. It's not intentional. It's just nothing gets done unless I yell. The kids ignore me unless I
Starting point is 00:38:09 yell. And I'm sick of yelling because I'm not yelling at anyone but myself. Cause even when I yell, they don't listen to me. So I've decided yelling is not for me. I'm going to try a different tactic. Maybe I'm going to be a soft parent. I don't know. Gentle parent. What about singing on the podcast? Can that stop too? No, no, that's in. That's an in. I can't wait to cut this in December. And I'll be yelling. Going to bed early, but staying awake in bed, punishing myself with thoughts. I don't even scroll on Instagram. I'm just thinking about all the shit I have to do the next day. And then two hours passes. I could have just slept and thought about it early in the morning. So I'm going to try and have a bit more control over that. I don't know, maybe some white
Starting point is 00:38:46 noise maybe I'll try meditation I don't know but we've got to get it under control because it's not helpful I think it's called anxiety Laura's trying meditation I have two more that's never gonna happen I love the intention I have two more one is extremely niche and it's because yesterday I realized it's something that happens every day and it makes me really irritated and I was like this is a weird thing to get hung up on and I think it'll make my life more harmonious with my husband I have favorite cutlery does anyone else yes okay I have a favorite spin yeah and anytime the spoon's in the dishwasher and someone else has used my favorite spoon I get really irrationally angry about it because they've got a whole drawer worth of spoons that they could use
Starting point is 00:39:23 but they all choose to use my spoon okay I relate to this so strongly with everything bowls plates some just feel right and others don't but I don't know what it is it the hand I think I feel like it might be the curvature of the actual spoon I can't work it out this is not sponsored there is a spoon and a bowl that I have from number 22 nothing can ever happen to those things because if I lose them I will no longer enjoy eating from a bowl I don't know if this has become really niche and inane but I've decided that I need to stop like because we have nothing to argue about like Matt and I don't argue we really don't and so then when we do argue it's about absolute fucking nothingness it really is and I've just decided that like I'm not going to spend 2026
Starting point is 00:40:05 even having petty arguments about anything if something is insignificant I'm going to let it go and then the other one is something that I'm currently doing and I don't know how to get out this I hate it and I don't want to pump I don't want to go into breastfeeding pumping like it's just not for me I know I hate it but hand expressing I need to figure out the breastfeeding bottle situation at the moment and that for me is like a very big task that is taking up a lot of my mental space because transitioning a baby to the bottle but also wanting to sometimes breastfeed them is really fucking hard so I don't know what my ins or outs with that is but I think it's standing in a bathroom hand expressing into a sink okay maybe that's my out okay well I can't
Starting point is 00:40:42 relate to that but I can relate to the other ones they're good outs let me kick start with my app I always don't yeah I don't I don't really read the room for these ones because I think I wrote the wrong thing my first out was marrying your cousin don't there have to be things that are outs for you Brit when did you marry your cousin well no I don't want this to be out for me I want this to be out for everyone I just read an article I don't think it's ever been in no it is I yeah no there's the nhs in the uk and australia's reporting on it has just listened to this this is fucking out it has to be the top out they've just released a report saying it's not that bad quote not that bad to marry your first cousin and in fact it can be beneficial for things and it's
Starting point is 00:41:25 not for the families because yeah they're like it's not as bad as we think and i'm like sorry it has to be the top out. Marrying your cousin is out. There's a lot of things that we want to normalize on this podcast and we are all for like not shaming, but I think that this is one thing that you feel quite passionately about shaming people for. I'm really sorry to all of our listeners who are married to their cousins. Do you know when I found out that this is way more common is when, remember when we did the Ask Uncut with the girl who had an affair, not an affair, she had a one night stand. She cheated on her husband with her first cousin at a wedding. remember yeah yeah yeah got pregnant we were like your cousin and we got over a hundred messages
Starting point is 00:42:05 being like this is actually way more common than what i think you guys realize it's not as taboo when we say it's a thing we're not saying it's a kink like there are just people who accidentally fell in love with their cousins also arranged marriages apparently it's more common to be quite closely genetically connected all right once again uh or maybe not getting canceled in 2026 is also on my... I wrote rage baiting. That wasn't me rage baiting. I was writing what I don't want in at all in 2026. People online rage baiting. I'm done with it. It's over. We know why you're doing it. We don't care anymore. So no more rage baiting. Maybe you're not going to react to rage baiting. Maybe it can be like you're giving it your time and energy. Rage baiting feeds the
Starting point is 00:42:41 algorithm. It is all for growing your own social platform. Anyone whose tactics on social media is to rage bait or is to make controversial, angry content, they're only doing it because it grows they're following keep your eyes peeled yeah and so i don't want to click on rage bait headlines for news articles and things like that like i just think we can see it now we know what it is let's see it for what it is yeah doom scrolling um and i had the same thing as you laura like i cannot scroll past midnight anymore i have to be going to bed before midnight midnight dude i'm thinking like 7 30 midnight no i don't sleep before midnight ever i could not tell you the last time and that has to stop it's out in is it's cool to go to bed and get sleep so that's my
Starting point is 00:43:25 in I didn't do it right I never do it right my outs are all things that like I'm sick of that I think need to be cancelled but they're not out of my life so my outs were also like AI Instagram influencers AI models anything AI I've had enough of so that's like my other out so Laura I definitely didn't read the room and do this properly I just did what I don't want to see in 2026 where you did what you want to change in your life you interpret it however you wish brit it's your yeah thank you keisha keisha what's her out thank you i like them though brit i mean i'm here for them as well i'm really sorry i misunderstood the assignment and i didn't realize i was supposed to write an actual list because i kind of more set an intention for my year so i guess i've got one
Starting point is 00:44:02 big overarching in do we want to do ins now did anyone do this assignment right am i the only did i not explain myself properly i wrote out it's just on a broader level not so personal okay very quickly I'll rattle my ins then and then we can go in order all right ins not drinking very obvious UK traders that's my ins I fucking love it sorry I know we'll talk about it another day Brittany's banned me booking dinner at 5 30 p.m love it that is my absolute in listening to all podcasts on 1.5 speed great in buying the same outfits in multiple colors because I know it looks good I do that and not having any shame about the fact that I wear the same thing every day I don't care someone messaged me on Instagram and said do you know what I love about you Laura
Starting point is 00:44:42 I love that you always repeat the same outfits and I was like that could be taken as offensive but thank you Donna thank you and okay also in cancelling plans and not feeling guilty about it and taking photos of things so that I can remember that they exist because we all know that I struggle with like your children like my third I have a photo I know I know that I remember I remember she's in the car she puts Poppy on the roof of the car. Better take a picture so I don't forget that one. We can't joke about this.
Starting point is 00:45:15 No, I mean things like if I've used the hair straightener, taking a photo that I've turned it off because I'm so sick of having these moments where I get out of the house, I'm halfway down the fucking street and then I'm like, did I use the steamer today? Like my brain just can't handle it. I can't handle the anxiety. I know I don't have OCD but I do have some tendencies
Starting point is 00:45:32 that are not very helpful to me where I am in another place. I cannot go and tend to the thing that my brain thinks needs to be tended to and I cannot stop thinking about it. So we could be recording a podcast, you could be talking about getting a UTI and the whole time my brain's like, did you leave the hair straightener on? Is the hair straightener on? Could you text someone to go and check the house
Starting point is 00:45:50 that the hair straightener's on? And I'm not doing that anymore. Keisha and I know that. We see the blank look on your face sometimes. I'm like, she's not listening to a word I'm saying. Sorry for you. It's like that type of intrusion is actually, I'm not to take away from the laugh.
Starting point is 00:46:02 It's really awful. I also think it amps up once you've had kids and also when you have a newborn, there's this intrusive thought pattern that happens and it's actually probably worth chatting it about i might bring it up next week because it's been so overwhelming for me this time like i'll walk past the stairwell and my brain will be like imagine what happened if you just dropped her down the stairs and then they play that on loop or i'm like cooking and i'm like imagine if you accidentally dropped your baby in the pan like it's it's absolutely fucking wild how your brain does this and i know it's a
Starting point is 00:46:30 protection mechanism but there's more to it and i would love to chat about it next week if you guys can do you guys remember cat you guys did an episode with cat on postpartum depression last year really really good episode for anyone who might experience that or knows and loves someone who does and she said the exact same thing how she would be cutting a carrot and she would be like what would happen if I just accidentally stabbed my baby it was this fear around these completely illogical things of like safety of things that like just wouldn't happen but it takes over it is really really a crazy thing I know it must be hormone driven there has to be more to it it's something that I'm prone to anyway and have done since I was a little kid but now it's like
Starting point is 00:47:10 on steroids with a baby in the mix and two other kids in the mix as well anyway that's we're taking the mood down what are your ins Brit my ins well I had going to bed before midnight this is a big one breakfast for dinner I think that we should bring that back in bowl of special k egg on toast in our household yeah breakfast for dinner yeah it's a vibe experiences over gifts so I think that this is a big one and I want I'm saying this about receiving and giving so like if it was a birthday or whatever for me personally I don't want or need anything anymore and I want to have more experiences in life and I think maybe we touched on it in an episode last year briefly I remember we were speaking about it personally Keisha but just these ideas of like you really
Starting point is 00:47:52 get in your routine and stuck in a rut and you don't really create new experiences much like I'm very lucky now obviously I'm having the time of my life I mean Italy with Ben the whole thing is new but when you're in your day-to-day life and things like that it's easy to go to the same places every day do the same thing see the same people and I just think I don't need anything anymore so and I want to give people experiences too so I want to focus on like instead of giving gifts and things like that giving something that someone's going to remember you know whether that's like a concert ticket or like a boat trip or whatever it is like just something fun a dinner even a dinner at a new restaurant you know they haven't gone to so that's a big one
Starting point is 00:48:29 swapping netflix or streaming for reading now not completely unless you're watching after the dinner party on stan and that's fine no i i just get sucked into like i will watch i have just done it over here eight seasons of something i get stuck in it and then that is all i will do and i have to just finish it and so all i do for hours is binge watch stuff that's got to stop so like i'm still going to watch stuff but i just need to know when to turn off and actually feed my brain with something that is going to do more for me. So that's a big one, reading some more books and listening to my body. I have a really, really bad habit and I've had it my whole life. I don't think it's a habit. I actually don't know the word for it, but I always used to get a lot
Starting point is 00:49:10 of intense guilt if I didn't exercise. So even if I didn't feel well, even if it was just a walk, like I made myself do it, or if I was so exhausted, I was so sore. And it comes back to issues from like my teen years and stuff. I know that, but I just had to do it every single day. And this year, this first four weeks of this year I've never been lazier I've done next to no exercise because my body's said like I don't want it they says I just want you to relax sleep I just go for walks I haven't like trained gone to the gym done anything and I actually feel better for it I know when I get home I'll get back into my routine but I just have never listened to what my body's trying to tell me and I think my body was just being like hey just chill sit down relax you don't have to
Starting point is 00:49:50 feel guilty for not going to the gym or so it's just more about listening to what being a bit more in tune with how I feel inside I don't know if that's a bit corny but I think I don't know I just think rest is a big thing for everyone I mean it's it's very I do think that that's something that a lot of people are talking about in terms of you know like the hustle culture's dead and wanting to like but it's also like a luxury as well at the same time to be able to go I'm gonna just listen to my body and if my aura ring says I'm on seven percent today I'm gonna fucking lull in bed if I had kids sure it's not as easy to be like brushing your hands of it and going to kick your feet up you know but for my situation I can so that's a big one and that was the last
Starting point is 00:50:28 thing on my ins okay I have an intention that is an overwhelming in slash intention for the year and this is kind of off the back of I didn't actually share this publicly on the podcast and I'll explain why for the past six months my partner has actually been living away so I referenced a couple of times when Britt and I spoke that he had been away for work and I know that this might sound a little bit silly but I've moved out of being around the corner from you guys and I was in a house by myself with a puppy and I just didn't want to broadcast that I know that 99.99% of people are not strange but there was just an element of it that made me feel like it was best to keep that private for now because there was just an element of my safety you know
Starting point is 00:51:08 like so that has been going on for the past six months so for the past six months it has been me and the puppy in the house he's come back to visit when he can and they've been pretty good with his Rostar but I really have felt as though I have been a little bit in the trenches of walking the dog twice a day working full-time maintaining a whole house living by myself like it has felt quite monotonous repetitive just a single mom with a very very active dog and I've also finished painting the entire house over the summer so I'm really glad I've ticked that off I've been doing my DIY and I've realized that my overall 26 sorry 2026 in is to be more whimsy it's to romanticize my life and I bought a mini projector I saw this thing on Instagram it probably was on TikTok first
Starting point is 00:52:00 but you can there's all these YouTubes of like fantasy scenarios where it looks like you're in a castle and it's raining and I bought this projector to stream that onto my wardrobe so I can sit in my room and have a fantasy around me. Anyway, it lasted for all of 30 seconds and the projector. You bought it on Teemu through the Teemu app, didn't you? No, I bought it from fucking Amazon. Bloody Jeff. We had a discussion about this recently though. Keisha was like, I want to make my life more whimsy. She's like, I read something, it was an article about like, you know, wanting to put the 10% in that creates joy. Like instead of just having a dinner, make it a themed night or if you're going to have you know I don't know a girls catch-up make
Starting point is 00:52:37 everyone dress in a certain color so that there is like an intentional aspect of effort that's put in that just sparks joy with everyone do you know what's one that we're working on we've got to do a 10-minute presentation of a niche topic that we're super into at the moment so all of us are going to go through who are these people a group of my friends great gorgeous and like whenever it's like Halloween or anything here Keisha's always the one that's like let's dress up let's do it. Like you are the go the extra 10% person. Right. And I am only there if I don't have to put in the 10%. Like if you make me put in the 10%, I'm not coming. I honestly think my 2026 is going to get me to 2027 with no friends. I think that's true, Laura. That's true. You've definitely
Starting point is 00:53:21 isolated yourself, but Keisha, like a PowerPoint presentation doesn't fall into my whimsical category. Like that's not in the whimsy category. Secondly, like a PowerPoint presentation is work. work for fun I kind of love it I pay off is there the payoff does feel like it's there it's not just for things that you do I'm also making myself more whimsical I have a really nice beautiful new teacup that I'm really enjoying having my morning coffee from I also bought colorful sundresses like I've really I'm just trying to really up the romance of my life you remember when you were a younger and you used to be in the car and you'd be in the back and you'd be looking out the window and every single time surely everyone did this you would all pretend
Starting point is 00:54:03 that you were in a film clip and it was deep and it was emotional and you were like the main character of this film clip looking out the window imagining what it would look like I'm not sure anyone did this I don't know if they did this no no I did it I did it Lockie's nodding thank you Britt okay this is one of those moments when I was like hey do you guys like count the corners of the walls and you were like no one does that Laura and I was like don't you don't count lines in rooms and you were like no that's how I feel about this I was you know my version of this no my version of this was I had like a little musical box and you could open it and put your little good like yeah I remember sacred possession and I used to I used to practice acting I used to
Starting point is 00:54:45 practice this one scene over and over again where like there was something that I'd been looking for my whole life in there and I was so nervous to open it but I couldn't wait to open it and I just used to film like myself opening this box and discovering what was inside I was such a loser child that's what I did you live your dreams Brit I just don't have time I don't have time to make my life more romantic and I don't say that to be like woe is me I say that because like genuinely I don't even have time to file my feet guys like it's not happening I haven't had a pedicure in about seven years well fucking find the time I'll give you time off work file your feet I'll give you the time to do it when your heels are catching in the bed sheets you know that
Starting point is 00:55:22 something's gone terribly wrong. That's where I'm at in life. Like I'm not buying a fucking headdress or putting a projector up. I don't have time. I did say something though, over the last couple of weeks, it was kind of like popping up across socials. It's this idea of, have you heard of an admin party? Okay. So for people who don't have time, hear me out. It's this idea of getting your friends together because maybe you're time poor and you don't get the time to spend with your friends anyway. Maybe you like me have a thousand unread emails. Maybe it's 200,000, no judgment from me and it's having an admin party with your friends where you have everyone together and you it's not you're not socializing you're not hanging out having wines you are just
Starting point is 00:55:57 getting through the task list with the people that you like spending time with and it's kind of like I guess a co it's like a co-working space but just for your own personal admin pay your electricity bill oh I also but I paid your electricity bill I need to send you that it's gas gas yeah I pay my own electricity. Thanks. I'll send you the receipts. Anyway, it's working through the admin, the list of never ending admin, but doing it at the same time that you're socializing. So you feel like you're also seeing people at the same time. I do need to clarify though, are you supposed to make a list of the admin tasks that you want to complete beforehand? Or do you just rock up raw and go, okay, what am I supposed to be doing? I think it's up to you. Maybe writing the list
Starting point is 00:56:39 of admin tasks is part of the admin that you do when you sit down. But you had an interesting theory around this Keish because like I saw this and I have a really quite sweet memory from when I was this is probably going back 2015-2016 and I had a mountain of tax like I got myself actually it's probably a bit earlier than that but it's not important I got myself into a lot of tax trouble right I'd started businesses I didn't know how like I mean they teach you everything in school they don't teach you how to do your tax especially if you're a 20 year old entrepreneur who's fucking got no clue right. Is this like that time that I didn't realize I was supposed to be charging GST. Yes. And then I had to pay it. So I hadn't been charging it. I basically
Starting point is 00:57:14 didn't do my tax for five years when I first started Tony May. And then when I finally sat down and did it, I had like a $30,000 tax bill, which I didn't have any money to my name. So it was like truly stressful. And at that time I didn't have enough money to pay an accountant to help. So I was like working my way through five years of tax admin, which had taken me so long to do. And I remember my girlfriends calling me and they were like, do you want to come out for dinner and and I was like I can't I was as in tears and I was like I've got to work through this fucking tax shit anyway an hour later I got the knock at the door and I was like who is that and um the taxman I know they're coming to take they're coming to take my collect because I own
Starting point is 00:57:53 nothing else no it's the police and it was um it was Kaya and Steph two of my really good girlfriends and they were there calculator they were there with the thing of hurricanes like a bag of hurricanes dinner and also a tub of messina and they came over to help me with all of my admin stuff so they came over and they sat through and they sorted receipts with me and we spent that night working through my tax together and this idea of an admin party just really reminded me of that and how like sometimes when you're in the fucking personal trenches and you're doing this shit in silo it's really nice to have people around you who like they're all doing it and they're all going through similar things yeah there's a there's a thing that's spoken about a
Starting point is 00:58:29 lot in ADHD management it's one of those things that when I first heard about it I kind of was like, oh yeah, duh. But I almost don't know if it's specific to people with ADHD. I feel like it might not, but I feel like it just might be extra beneficial for people with ADHD. It's this thing called body doubling. So essentially it's just doing something when there's someone else in the room with you. I've got an actual definition here. ADHD body doubling is a practice where a person with ADHD does potentially frustrating or boring tasks in the presence of someone else. This other person is the body double for the person with ADHD. I think it's about accountability the fact that like you can't wander off and go and do six different tasks
Starting point is 00:59:07 that are only a quarter complete if there's someone else in the room they're not expected to talk to you it's not like they're monitoring you or managing you it's just having that physical presence where you're like they'll know if I get up they will know I'm crazy if I walk out the back door and jump on the trampoline now the problem is when two people with ADHD get in the same room and try and do it for each other because then the tasks just bounce I also don't think that this is just something that relates to be with ADHD I think it's a reason why there's only certain personality types that work so well from home versus people that need to go into the office like working from home is not a situation that is productive for every type of person some people
Starting point is 00:59:41 need co-working spaces and stimulation and they need the brainstorm and other people need to put headphones on and not be disturbed like I really do just think it kind of relates to yes ADHD would have their own version of it but I think it's a personality type like I really do think that some people just are more proactive when they sit across from someone and work in a I guess in unity with them yeah I completely agree and like if you are actually thinking of doing an admin night which to me does sound kind of boring and doesn't align with my whimsical status of here you are doing excel spreadsheets but here are some other notes that you might be able to prep that would up the productivity and also you get to hang out with your friends batch meal prepping
Starting point is 01:00:19 parties so like you're not for me that's not for me and you're all meal prep together 2026 sounds fucked guys let's go back I'll bring my dino nuggets maybe you could all put in one person does the groceries and then you all meal prep together of the same shit I don't know I'm not making the rules another one photo cleanup and memory swap so you all get your phones you sort through the photos and delete the ones that you have like you know 16 versions of but then you can also share the stories between the old pictures together I do like that one but I also don't think you need to be together for that you can just do shared albums yeah I do like the idea of having dedicated time for me that's every single time I'm on a plane I sit on a plane I just go through
Starting point is 01:00:59 deleting my old photo albums this next one Brit I think that I kind of already have a version of this with you except for the second part clothes edit and swap so you declutter your wardrobes and you take all your clothes around with your friends and you just do a big swap but in this scenario I just go to your house and take all of your clothes we're yet to swap but I'm down for a swap I am down for a swap I reckon a really good admin party for 2026 if you guys cannot be bothered to go out you're not feeling it is like a dating swiping party all your single friends go to each other's house you get takeaway dinner you sit on whatever dating apps you've got and you swipe together and you compare people and you talk about it and you're like what about this guy what about this
Starting point is 01:01:43 one whatever I think that that is like a really good admin get together don't people just do that out at dinner anyway like I always anytime I'm out I always take my single it's not a game for them I get that but it is for me I take my single friends it's really not swipe away so nice to see those apps again I miss them from time to time I feel like it would be a problem if you're with your friends and you all start swiping on the same people like totally that's gonna happen you're gonna have mutuals that's competition and it's healthy a little bit of competition is healthy there are two other nights that you could do with your friends inbox detox session Laura you are so in need of that it's where you delete unsubscribe and organize your emails and the last one is a
Starting point is 01:02:18 password reset party we need to do that because you motherfuckers have been using my password for everything I learned last time that's true I sent Laura a news we subscribed to something else and she goes hey can you send me the details this is last night and I just sent her the password that's like for her banking she's like how did you know that I was like I use it for everything I let Keisha log into my can for one time and she's used it the password for every single thing for i thought it was a work password now i gotta go sort my life out anyway guys look we um like i said this is very much a catch-up episode for us and next week we are back in normal swing of programming and also we've got a little bit of a new episode well it is a new episode for us because
Starting point is 01:02:58 we're not doing the pickup this year we're adding a new episode into the mix which is called the off cuts now the off cuts is all of the fun stuff that's happening in the news that we haven't had a chance to talk about things that didn't make the main episode spicy little numbers stuff that we've gone down a rabbit hole on that we have found so interesting or so niche that we want to share with you guys it'll be a really fun weekend episode so if you're going on a road trip or you're spending time in the car on a saturday it'll be dropping every saturday in place of the pickup episode and also as you know every ep is on youtube now we've been doing long form for ages i know other podcasts are coming on steam but we've been here and we're doing it
Starting point is 01:03:35 we're ahead of that trend yeah i know for australia for once ness has been here for a year doing these podcast episodes as youtube so join us on youtube if you want to see everything in long form we have our new spiffy studios and yeah brit you'll be back here soon and it'll be like you never left i'm back now today i'm back in real life i'm back in the studio so i'll see you guys soon but also dropping in two days time it will be our first interview of the year brit i know that Like, I know I was trying to keep my excitement levels to an, to a level that didn't fangirl. I don't know if I achieved that. I tried really hard.
Starting point is 01:04:13 It was such an exciting moment. This person is like my, you know how they say, if you could have a dream dinner guest who would be dead or alive, blah, blah, blah. This person is in the top three, potentially the top two of any person I would ever love to have dinner with. It's Elizabeth Gilbert. It's the second time that we've had Elizabeth on the podcast, but Laura, you were on maternity leave for this one so I got to take your place and I fucking love Elizabeth Gilbert so much I
Starting point is 01:04:38 find her so interesting and the way she speaks it just feels as though she is like entering my heart and she is amazing and she was also one of my favorite interviews of 2025 so like if you haven't listened to the first episode go and listen to that I mean she if you don't know who Elizabeth Gilbert is she wrote Eat Pray Love she's like a modern day philosopher in her takes on how we show up in the world she's also has very interesting views on feminism on being childless by choice she's spoken about addiction we covered so many topics on our last discussion with her and we couldn't wait to have her back on the pod yeah and this particular episode is about sex and love addiction which we don't hear about many times from women you know I think we hear about
Starting point is 01:05:15 sex addiction particularly when it comes from men and often in the pop culture world it can be from quite problematic men and so we unpacked a lot of that with her we also spoke about her partner Raya who passed away from terminal cancer and her battle with addiction towards the end of her life it reared its head in quite an ugly way and I know you guys touched on that in the last time that you spoke with her but this is kind of the the next part of that story and it was one of my favorite episodes that I've ever had the pleasure of being able to be a part of and yeah that's coming out in two days for you guys well we will also link the old episode as in the last interview we did with her in the show notes you're going to listen to that in the meantime and that is it
