Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome back to Daily Wisdom. There are seasons where nothing has visibly changed and yet something inside you no longer feels the same. It is a strange place to be because nothing is clear enough to explain. You may not have a decision yet. You may not have a plan. You may not even know what you want with certainty.
Starting point is 00:00:28 You only know that something no longer fits as naturally as it once did. This week, we are exploring what it means to trust what is not fully clear yet. Yesterday, we spoke about self-trust, not as the absence of doubt, but as the ability to keep listening while life gives us only part of the path.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Today, I would like to stay with one of the most delicate places where that trust is tested. The moment when you feel between two lives. An old version of yourself may still be visible. It still has habits, responsibilities, relationships, explanations. It may even still function quite well. But another part of you has begun to sense that this version cannot carry everything you are becoming. This does not always arrive dramatically. Sometimes it begins as a small loss of warmth. A dream that used to excite you
Starting point is 00:01:35 now feels distant. A role that once gave structure begins to feel narrow. A rhythm that once felt natural starts to feel heavy. Even the way you describe yourself may begin to sound slightly borrowed, as if the words still make sense to others, but no longer. fully land inside you. And because the change is not yet visible, you may doubt it. You may wonder if you're being ungrateful, restless, impatient, unrealistic. You may tell yourself that nothing is really wrong. And perhaps nothing is wrong in the obvious sense.
Starting point is 00:02:20 But sometimes the soul does not wait for a crisis before asking for more room. Sometimes it simply becomes tired of living too far from what is true. Being between two lives is difficult because it does not give us the comfort of a finished story. The old life is no longer fully alive, but the new one has not yet taken shape. The old language no longer holds everything, but the new language has not yet arrived. We feel the movement. But we cannot yet name the destination. The mind struggles with this.
Starting point is 00:03:02 It wants proof. It wants a clear reason, a clean transition, a plan that can be defended. It wants to know whether the feeling is trustworthy before allowing it to matter. But life often changes before we can explain why. There are transitions that begin beneath our understanding. A person does not always know at first why they feel less at home in a place that once comforted them.
Starting point is 00:03:35 They do not always know why certain ambitions lose their shine, why certain conversations feel more difficult, why certain hopes return again and again after being dismissed. At first, we may only feel the friction. Something in us has outwe. grown a form, but has not yet found the courage or clarity to leave it. This is not necessarily a call to rush. It is important to say that. Not every discomfort means we must destroy what exists. Not every restlessness is wisdom. Sometimes we need patience. Sometimes we need rest. Sometimes we need
Starting point is 00:04:21 to repair our relationship with the life we already have. But there is a particular kind of discomfort that deepens when we keep forcing ourselves back into a shape that has become too small. It is not the discomfort of ordinary effort. It is the discomfort of self-betrayal. A seed cannot become a tree by remaining loyal to the, shell. At some point, what protected it has to open. That opening may look like breaking, but it is also the beginning of another form of life. I think many of us suffer in transition
Starting point is 00:05:08 because we confuse the breaking with failure. We feel less certain, less efficient, less recognizable to ourselves. We may lose interest in things that used to make. We may lose interest in things that used to motivate us. We may feel drawn towards something we cannot yet justify. We may become quieter, more sensitive, less able to keep performing the old version of ourselves with ease. And instead of seeing this as a passage, we call it confusion. But confusion is not always the opposite of clarity. Sometimes confusion. is what happens when an old clarity has expired, and a deeper clarity has not yet arrived.
Starting point is 00:05:59 This is a tender place to be. You're no longer fully who you were, and not yet fully who you are becoming. The danger in this place is to demand certainty too soon. We want the new life to present itself with a name, a timeline, a guarantee. We want to know that the next shape will be better before we release the old one. But transformation rarely offers that kind of contract.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Sometimes we are asked to listen before we are able to explain. Sometimes the first honest step is not a decision, but an admission, something in me is changing. That admission can bring relief. It does not force us to act immediately. It simply stops us from pretending that nothing is happening. You can say quietly, I am not ready to leap, but I am ready to listen. I do not know the whole path, but I can admit that the old one no longer feels the same.
Starting point is 00:07:13 I cannot explain the new life yet, but I can stop denying that something in me is moving. There is dignity in that kind of honesty. A transition does not become real only when other people can see it. Some of the most important changes begin invisibly. Before a person leaves, begins, speaks, creates, or chooses differently. There is often a hidden season where the inner life reorganizes itself. Values shift. Desires become clearer. False obligations lose some of their power.
Starting point is 00:07:54 A quieter truth begins to gather strength. From the outside, it may look like nothing is happening. But inside, a shape is loosening. Another is gathering. We rarely honor this stage because our culture prefers visible progress. We like decisions, announcements, transformations that can be named. but between two lives there may be no announcement yet, only a slow honesty, a repeated feeling,
Starting point is 00:08:27 a small refusal to keep calling something alive when it no longer is. This is where self-trust returns. You do not have to despise an old life in order to outgrow it. You do not have to turn the past into a mistake to admit that it is no longer enough. A version of yourself can have been necessary, sincere, even beautiful, and still be complete. A season can be honored and still be over. This may be one of the gentlest ways to move through transition, not by attacking the old self
Starting point is 00:09:08 and not by forcing the new one to arrive fully formed, but by bowing to what has carried us this far and listening for what can carry us now. If you are between two lives, perhaps you do not need to rush toward a conclusion today. You may only need to stop treating the passage as a problem. Let it be a passage. Let there be some uncertainty without making it a verdict against you.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Let the old shape loosen. Let the new one arrive at its own rhythm. Stay close to what feels honest, even if it is not yet clear. That may be today's wisdom. You are not lost because you are between two lives. You may be in the quiet passage where one shape releases you
