Hello everybody. Welcome to Life with Nat. I hope you're all doing really, really well and having a lovely summer.
We are recording today from our villa in Crete, and we thought we'd do a little episode.
Today's our last day of the holiday
We have had such a relaxing nine days
I cannot tell you
Not been on my phone a lot
I'm sorry I've not replied to you much
But I'm sure you'll all understand
That it's nice to switch off sometimes
How are you sweetheart?
Very chilled out and relaxed
It has been such a nice holiday, isn't it?
It's been fantastic
Shame Joni's got an ear rake now
well something had to happen medically didn't it so I'm not surprised she has been in the pool for about 15 hours every day yes that's possibly got something to do of it after having a little google on the symptoms she's just got to make it through the next 24 hours
although it's quite funny because if she's doing something she wants to do yes she seems to be all right yes you're slightly more skeptical about the symptoms aren't you
than I am a little bit
but she has had some neurofen
so we'll see what happens when that wears off
but anyway apart from that
I think what's been brilliant
is just all being together
with nothing to do
and that's what's lovely about a holiday
isn't it?
Well we've had plenty to do
hang on just going to
I can hear some
prove my point
there's a bit of shouting going on
we can just hear it through the door
Sounds quite jolly
A bit of singing going on in there
Oh good
I think she's all right
And she's got her headphones on
I think so yeah
She makes me laugh with those on
Although I ran the marathon in those headphones
And they're torn now in the middle of the earphone
Oh right
Which is a shame
And where's the
Big child
Having a little sleep
A little sleep
May I add
That it is only quarter to ten
Oh yeah
And this is her longest laying of the holiday
She's been really good at getting up
She has
She's been in a lovely mood for most part
Yeah
She has
The girls have got on really well
They've done all right
There's been a few little tiffs
But nothing that you wouldn't expect
No
But I have said to them both
They need to
when they get home
spend a bit more time together
because they do actually get on
they do have a laugh
they like ganging up on you
don't they?
Yes, they do
I think I've been quite a good sport actually
I don't think there's been many occasions
where I've been relaxing here
on the, there's that nice bed thing
what's that called?
The cabana, isn't it?
The cabana.
It's like a plank of wood
with a mattress on it
suspended from some rope
Yeah.
And I can be laying there, as you can hear, the grasshoppers chirping away with their...
Well, they're not chirping away, are they?
I wouldn't say they're chirping.
Aren't they rubbing their legs together?
They are.
It's that time of the year for them where they get a bit excitable.
A bit like yourself.
And I could be sitting on that bed relaxing, reading my book.
And then you just hear the...
Daddy!
And getting called into the pool.
I'm straight in there.
I am
I'm not sure you've been straight in there
I think I've been very good
no I think we have
and we have both taken turns
and I've read a whole book
I've read my whole book
the flat share
I've only read half of mine
this month's book
I know you're quite a slow reader
aren't you
well it's a very complicated book
and what I find is I read a bit
and then I've been distracted
halfway through reading that sentence
what's your book about
because I haven't heard much about
it. It's all about the history of what we eat and where it all comes from. I learnt some
interesting things though. Well, suddenly Mark's read half a book and he is a professional on
weight loss and nutrition now. I wouldn't say I'm a professional but I've had an interesting
insight. I didn't know that cooking, the effect of cooking on the development of human beings.
years ago, people were cooking.
Yeah.
It's incredible.
Well, they had fire, didn't they?
It ties in extremely well, I think, with your programme that's been on while we've been away.
Well, I love cooking.
Cooking brings people together.
Well, it's an animal instinct, effectively, from what I've been reading.
Fantastic.
It's the reason our brains are so big.
Brilliant.
We got efficient harvesting energy from food, so we don't have to continually
graze.
It's absolutely fascinating.
I've enjoyed that book.
I'm disappointed, though, but I've only read half of it.
And I always find that when I go away, I mean, I've brought half a library with me.
Why did you bring so many reading materials?
Obviously, I was ambitious.
Well, I read my book.
We got right into it.
And I have brought another book with me, but I haven't really got into it.
But I'm going to continue to read when I get home.
I do enjoy it.
You got right back into them, aren't you?
Yeah.
Historical Beano annuals.
What year was the one you bought?
Shut up.
What was the bounty?
No.
I used to have, I used to have.
Bino and Dandy.
No, I used to have Mandis and Bunties.
And they were brilliant.
Perks of the family business.
I used to get every.
annual and every magazine. That's fantastic. I can still hear Joni singing away in there.
Yeah. Her ear's bad though. Her ear will be bad when we want to go for breakfast in a minute.
She's just not a fan of the bacon there, is she? She's very upset about the sausages.
Yeah. As a sausage connoisseur, of which she certainly is. Well, unfortunately, we can't get the 97%
poor Eminus sausages out here, so she'd have to wait until she gets home. No, we don't have any
franchises in Crete, did they?
Liddle?
Oh, um...
M&S have got European branches.
They have, yeah.
I don't...
I've not seen one here.
No, I haven't.
I've seen a Liddle.
Well, that could be your next calling.
What's that?
You could have an M&S franchise out here, couldn't you?
You could set one up?
Could do, yeah.
Perfect.
I'm not sure how that would go.
I'm not really business-minded, but...
What, it has...
I tell you what it has...
taught me though out here.
I'd like a gas hob.
Yeah.
All the mod cons.
No, but it's so lovely
because it's the great big one.
It's got five rings on it.
And we've got an induction hob,
haven't we?
And it is not the same cooking
without gas.
It's interesting because whilst you've been
enjoying cooking on an actual naked flame,
I've been reading about it.
And I think it's like an insight
into your sort of natural, deep-rooted genetics
that you like cooking on actual fire?
Maybe.
You're probably closer to your Neanderphal self than you realise.
Do you see what I mean, everybody?
150 pages of a book and this is the stuff I've got to listen to.
So what are the plans for today being the last day?
Well, it's not very sunny today
It will be later
I know, yeah
It's very humid
I don't feel like I've got much of a tan
Which is a shame
I feel like we sort of have to do a bit of everything
I feel like I need to get on that hammock
And read a page
Just so I can say I've been on the hammock again
I haven't yet sat on those deck chairs up there
You know up on the
That would be nice
Obviously
Very lucky
We've got a little pool and it's got a little slide.
The slide's been brilliant, actually.
Slides been excellent.
You've enjoyed a slide, haven't you?
I've had a go on it a few times.
You have?
Yeah.
I get a bit funny about the pool and everyone jumping on me and stuff
because I can't touch the bottom of the pool.
It's very deep, isn't it, the pool?
Yeah, it's very small pool.
It's probably...
You say it's small, babe.
The four of us are in there swimming with giant inflator balls.
It's not that small.
Well, once we've got four inflatables bobbing around, there's not a lot of room.
No.
Hence the bumper car game that we've designed and invented.
That's quite good, the bumper car game.
The challenges have been fun.
The challenges have been good to watch.
You've enjoyed those, haven't you?
You've not really participated in a challenge.
You've done one.
It's like hard work.
Killed me.
Absolutely killed me.
Quite a good exercise.
The challenges have consisted of, um,
inflatables, woggles, armbands, and Joni sort of doing laps of different things with going down the slide included.
It's been interesting.
A bit like that programme that used to be on, what was it called?
When you'd run over staff and run the risk?
No.
Dave Benson Phillips?
No.
Similar.
Was it?
Yes.
That was a classic.
That's brought back.
a few memories, I think, to a few listeners.
Classic Saturday morning, I think that was on.
You've done well, haven't you?
You've always held the mantle for, you've given up the time to sit on that deck chair
with your, by that time, your glass of Sangria.
Yeah.
And really paid attention to the challenge.
Oh, I've been a judge, haven't I?
You've been the judge.
The sun's nice over there at that time as well.
Yeah, it's funny.
You always choose that particular.
Deck chair as well.
Oh, it's lovely.
Whilst I'm getting battered by two children.
I don't know how you do it.
Drown.
Got bruises.
Hair pulled.
Can we talk about the food?
What food?
We've been enjoying every evening.
Oh, it's been lovely.
A little village that we're next to.
We're in.
It's called Kuta Lafari, if you'd like to look it up.
It's a lovely little village.
And there's probably...
Well, it's just all restaurants and little bars.
So nice.
Little souvenir shops, restaurants and bars.
But it's right out the way.
And just lovely little traditional Greek tavernas.
We've been eating lovely grilled meats, haven't we?
Mezes.
Masakas.
It's been really lovely food, actually.
I can't say I've had a bad meal, really.
It's interesting because the staple Greek diet is very similar.
Oh, my God.
It's a chapter three of my book.
Well, actually, the European diet is, Mediterranean diet, is much better for you.
Because you can see, they don't have a lot of processed stuff.
They really don't.
A lot of it is your meats, your salads.
I mean, there is a lot of pastry involved, I have to say.
I was going to say the spinach and feta cheese, pastries.
I'm going to miss it so much.
I'm going to have to go, I'm going to go home and find.
find a lovely Greek, there'll be a Greek shop somewhere
where you can buy those, like a Greek bakery.
Of course there will be.
I know, I just don't, but I am going to, or I'm going to make one, I'm going to make it.
Oh yeah.
I think I could make the spinach and feta.
Of course you, of your talents as we're seeing on the television at the moment.
Thank you.
More than capable.
Thank you very much.
Is there any more coffee in the pot?
It might be a tiny bit.
Let's go have a look in here.
We've got the oldest coffee machine, but it's so good.
The big filter jug and you fill up the...
Can you hear her?
I've got an earache.
I've got an earache.
I'll have a drop more, babe
We've got no more milk though
That's all right
I quite like it like that
Yeah no it's quite nice strong
In it
The Greek way
Yeah you've been getting quite into the
A sort of Greek way of life
There's been no plate smashing
I've noticed in any of these traditional restaurants
Which I find slightly strange
No because that's quite a
Is that not done?
these days. I suppose really, it's not very environmentally friendly.
No.
No, wherever I go on holiday, I'll get into it.
I thought you're going to say you get insects, insect bites.
Well, I do, yeah, I've been bitten alive.
You've had a few, haven't you?
Yeah.
It's not the bite that's the worry. It's the way I react to them.
Yes.
They're slightly dramatic.
They sort of flare up, don't they?
They do. As do you?
Yeah.
But that's all right.
Well, when we get home, it's meant to be baking hot.
I know that's something to look forward to.
We can get that paddling pool up in the garden.
I've got a bit of work to do when I get home.
But all fun things, I feel so lucky that I'm going home.
And it's not sort of back to the grind.
Do you know what I mean?
I'm going home to do things that I want to do,
which wouldn't have been the case a couple of years ago.
It would have been back to the grind, wouldn't it?
Well, it depends.
I loved it, but it's still back to the grind.
Yeah.
I mean, you'd have to maybe get in the car and drive somewhere
and spend an hour or two somewhere, doing some work.
Shut up.
No, but I mean the line learning and not knowing what you're doing each week.
He's just very different to me now, knowing for the next couple of weeks exactly what I'm doing.
What are you doing Tuesday?
Nothing.
We're doing Wednesday?
Magazine shoot.
We do a Thursday.
A shoot.
Another shoot.
Which one?
Can't say.
All right, you're very good.
You're across the diary.
Very impressive.
And then we've got Joni's birthday.
I know.
Another milestone.
Nine.
That'd be lovely.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to that.
She is a funny little thing.
She doesn't want to do much.
No.
She just wants to put the tee-p tent up in the garden and play games in it.
And do you know what?
force these children
she's not big on
parties and at the moment
she's not really big on people
big on the family
but I said
do you want any friends over
do you want to do anything
and she's like not really
just want to be with you guys
that's nice though
and that's pretty impressive
after having 10 days with us
solidly
well I'll tell you something
it won't last for long
so let's enjoy it while it lasts
what do you mean
or should be not wanting to
be with us soon.
Yeah.
I'm sure that won't be the case.
Eliza's enjoyed being with us.
She has, yeah.
And she's looking forward to the weekend being in the tent.
What's been really nice?
You know, I mean, it's, you know, each night, the last three or four days before going
out for dinner.
Yeah.
We've taken a wander up into the village and we've gone to that nice rooftop bar.
Oh, it's so nice.
Now, yes, I know we're taking a nine-year-old and a 14-year-old.
old to a cocktail bar. Fair enough.
There's loads of kids in there, come on.
Once we're upstairs on that roof, the Uno comes out.
Oh, it's brilliant.
Joni takes a lamp and the ashtray off the table.
We start playing, and we just sit there and play cards.
And what's nice is you look around at the other families,
and there's a lot of mobile phone activity.
There's a lot.
From both the parents and the children.
I mean, I have been quite shocked.
I have to say I've been quite shocked at the.
the level of mobile phone activity in the evenings around dinner tables.
They're actually not talking to each other.
No one's talking.
And their children, some of the children are Joan's age, if not younger,
and they're on the phone and they don't look up from the phone.
Me and Eliza have been watching it.
And it's nice because the kids just want to play a card game,
and that is genuine.
That's not instilled upon them as they want to do that.
But that has been instilled over, you have to do that.
Do you see what I mean?
It's because I'm a board game person and we're cards, we've always played cards, happy families.
We haven't played those cards I just found in that bowl, have we?
Oh my God.
Only you could have found a pack of Greek cards with the Karmusutra on them.
It's not the Karmusitra, from what I understand.
Well, I think it's specifically Greek illustrations, historical illustrations from over the years of different activities.
Right.
Well.
Now made into quite a classy looking pack of cards that are available in most of the gift shops around the village, I would imagine.
What is it with the gift shops?
What is it with the penises?
There's a lot of fertility, isn't it?
What do you mean?
Well, it's like, symbols of...
Very large penises as wine openers.
Yeah, there's quite a few of those.
Yeah.
Key ring holders.
Well, and the women ones.
The women ones are good.
Are we?
I think they're hilarious.
They're sort of...
pair of boobs which are rubber that you squeeze and they sort of grow up like a stress boy at ball
stress boy stress boy stress boy is stressed boy have you treated me to one of those my birthday's coming
up no what am i going to do about your birthday i've got to do all that when i get home a lot to do not to sort
out on the subjects of gifts yeah the girls did a nice thing didn't they oh they did such a lovely thing for me
So, as you all know, we went to the Oasis a couple of weeks ago
before coming on holiday
And there's a beautiful little art shop in the village
And there's a lady who just sits painting
Anyway, we went in to have a little look
And it's like the life that you want
You just sits in this shop painting all day
It's like perfect
Pod
Pod in Kootilafari
It is called Pod isn't it
I think it's pictures on demand
Very good
Possibly
I've read it somewhere
I thought, oh, that's quite clever.
Anyway, she's painting away, and we went in,
and she was doing a picture of Nolan Liam.
And we watched her paint this over a couple of days.
We kept going in to have a look, beautiful.
Anyway, the girls were sort of scheming,
and I did know what they were doing.
I did have an idea.
Did you?
Yes.
Oh, I've sported out now.
They kept popping in the bathroom and saying they were going out on their own.
But what was lovely is you gave them pocket money, didn't you, for the holiday?
yes
and they've spent their money on this painting
well Eliza has
she spent all of her money
Eliza yeah she's stumped up all of the money
but I gave her
Joni you know
put in a third
she dipped in to the purse
and pulled out a little bit of money
but they came home and I unwrapped it
and they'd bought me this picture
so now we've got a beautiful picture
Nolan Liam
and it's so nice because we've
watched it being painted.
It's from our holiday.
We saw Oasis before coming out,
so it means a lot.
I'm going to put it in the lounge, I think.
Yeah, it's nice.
It's really, really lovely.
I'll put a little picture up
and a name of the shop.
I'll pop it on Instagram for you all.
Lovely, lovely little shop.
She does a lot of commissions for the UK,
doesn't she?
Yeah, she said that, yeah.
She said all she's been doing is Oasis people.
Yeah.
She was.
She was saying,
Noel and Liam and Liam.
Didn't she?
She did.
I don't think she was well?
I think she was possibly from Crete, but...
Possibly, yeah.
But the grasshoppers have chirped up again.
This will be a little bit like, though,
when you talk about aeroplanes flying over
and you won't actually hear a thing.
Maybe.
It's funny how you get used to it,
because it's quite loud.
Yeah, they are loud.
I had to do a voice note to somebody earlier,
earlier in the week,
and all they talked about was the background noise.
on the voice note saying how it sounded like it had been put on
to sound like I was away
What about the grasshoppers that were making love on the chair
Yeah, what about them
Eliza was disgusted, wasn't she?
No, I think she was more bothered about the fact
It was a grasshopper
I don't think she cared too much about what was going on
She said, I can't believe they're doing that in front of us
As if they're sort of doing it on purpose
right
yeah
oh the sun's come out
the sun has come out
oh it's going to be roasting now
well I'm pleased we're going home
to nice weather
because I think it's been a bit miserable
whilst we've been away
so we've been very lucky
oh good timing
perfect timing yeah
I haven't checked the cameras actually
I should see what the weather's been like
I did check the cameras
to see what the grass was doing
it's got a bit long
well there's a paddling pool
going on it for a week soon
so I won't worry about it
but it needs a cut
you can cut it
but I am going to put it up
life's too short
I was messaging earlier
and I said oh no
we're going to put the pool up
on Thursday
because then it's
Joni's birthday
Saturday
and she was like
it's a bit of grass
it's crazy
she put the pool up
for the kids
and it's true
I agree
so that'll be nice
next week
something to look forward to
we'll have to
work out some sort of slide
maybe I could put
a scaffold plank in there
or something like that
Let Joni slide off into it
It's not going to be quite the same
It's not quite the same no
I don't think it's also going to be about 25 degrees in there
But
Never mind
Oh we went in the sea didn't we
We did go in the sea
We went on a boat trip didn't we
We did
That was an interesting one
It's an interesting day out
Went to an island didn't we
It was lovely
Just didn't expect it to be
so busy on the boat.
It was busy.
But it was quite a big boat.
I think what you were expecting was some sort of super yacht with a crew of about 20 people
and a laid table and, you know, sun loungers.
I didn't expect that for the money we paid.
I thought it was very good value, actually.
It was extremely good value.
But it was getting the tray of food carrying it up the stairs.
It was like being on the back of a piano ferry
in the middle of English Channel
bobbing around
Yeah, not for me really
Not for me
I enjoyed it
I thought it was really good fun
And I loved jumping off the back of the boat
And I enjoyed the island that we went to
Yeah, it was interesting
Was it called spin-a-longer?
Spin-a-longer, yeah
Amazing
The last, what was it?
Well it was
they put people who suffered of leprosy on it
and up until
1957 which is mad
yeah and it was before that it had been a fort really
it was fortified
no it was really interesting
really funny we had an amusing tour guides
oh he was great really good value nice guy
really good
come and take a picture if you like
come closer
come closer
my group come closer
here we have the laundry room of the lepers
if you would like to come into the church
and take a picture
come closer
he was good on he was that the impression
I thought it was quite good
yeah I mean I'm sure he wouldn't have an issue with that
he loved us because we were
listening to him
intently
and we weren't being rude
No.
Weren't talking when he was talking.
No.
He really liked us.
We kept a time.
Gave him a tip as well, didn't I?
Yeah.
He was excellent.
Liked him.
Yeah.
No, very good.
What have you got to do when you get home?
I've got a meeting on Monday.
Oh, early doors.
I've got Tuesday.
I'm off.
So that'll be preparing by the towns of things the paddling pool, cutting the grass.
Lovely.
Getting things in order.
Wednesday, I've got a meeting.
Oh, the slides come on.
Thursday, um, I can't, one of my, oh no, sorry, Tuesday, I'm at the proms.
I've got a busy, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday I'm working.
I'm going to get back straight into it.
Thursday, I'm off.
So Monday cut the grass.
Yes.
And put the pool up in it, and we put it up in the night, so it shows up overnight.
Yeah, okay.
And then, um, what are we doing?
And it's full on into birthday mode for,
absolutely the birthday girl yeah it'll be lovely
I feel I've got a busy couple of weeks
not too bad
you're all right
I've got quite a lot to do
in my mind
quite a lot of studying to do for my course
and I've also
got a bit of writing to do
quite a few bits and pieces to be getting on with
what are you writing
The live podcast show
Oh
When I say writing
It sort of writes itself
Because of the fantastic audience members
Well you're just going to rely on them
Yeah basically
So they're going to come in
And what are they going to do it
A sentence each
Provide it to you on a bit of paper
This is what I've got to work out
Yeah
But it'll be alright
It's quite a thing isn't he
I've never heard Michael McIntyre say
That he's relying on the audience to do his show
Well he's a stand-up comedian
So it's a bit different
That sounds good
So really you're just sort of presenting a show written by the audience
Sort of yeah
Is there going to be a texting element of your life show?
I hope so, yeah
Like I say, got to work it all out
Okay
Not promising anything yet
No double 7-8
201919
If you'd like to drop me a little message
message on things you'd like to see at the live show. Any ideas you've got to be welcome.
Help my creative juices flow. Not that you haven't thought about what you're going to do at
the live show. Of course. That's purely just additional material. Bonus. Bonus material to go with
the pages and pages that you were scribbling away at the other day. Absolutely. Yeah. On the
ideas.
We haven't set up on those deck chairs yet.
I think I'll get bitten up there at the moment
Yeah
It's a lot of greenery
A lot of foliage
It's still a bit shady
Prime time that for the mosquitoes
Oh
They love it, they do
We've gained another inflatable to take home
Haven't we?
Oh, we have
That's something it's interesting
What's that?
Well
Our little float that Joni like seemed to have
It seems to have deflated her little bodyboard thing.
That's a shame.
Oh no, I think that's because the clip was, you know, the valve was left open.
Oh, was it?
I looked at it last night.
Oh, fine.
But what I was going to ask you was, how many families fly away somewhere on holiday
and take some of their inflatable toys with them?
We've got a flamingo.
We've got the watermelon, which we got when we're a,
brought in Corfu last year.
That's correct.
But we flew home.
Yep.
And we've now flown it back out to the Greek islands.
We have yet.
I think there's quite a lot of people that would do that.
Okay.
And we are now taking home an additional seal.
We have Simi the seal.
So it's very hard to sit on.
You haven't mastered it yet, have you?
Doesn't work for me.
No, it doesn't.
The seal seems to.
sort of just like
what are you
sorry I'm coming around
because I wanted to sit on the comfy seat
oh
sorry
I've got that
I've now um
got the holiday bug by the way
what's that
well you know that I've never really enjoyed
going abroad been stressed by it and stuff
I feel like I've really overcome that this holiday
I'm good
I've really overcome it
I've really enjoyed it
and I now understand you know you work you work hard
and the holiday time being away as a family
switching off is so important
it is you do feel quite relaxed
very good for the brain recharge
and can I also say for people listening
who haven't been on holiday this year.
I hope you've all had lovely summer at home.
There's loads to do at home.
I love being at home.
When I'll get home, I won't feel bad about going home.
The kids like being at home.
It's nice to enjoy the garden.
Nice to do little day trips out.
I mean, we and Mark were only saying our kids are so lucky
because me and Mark never went abroad with our families, did we?
Not really, no.
Which mean not really?
Well, OK, no, we didn't.
I was just thinking about it.
I never went on a plane with my mum and dad.
No, I didn't.
Never went anywhere.
So they're very, very lucky.
I did do a French trip at school in Year 7.
I did a trip to Disneyland, Paris when I was doing my A-Levels.
I think I went to Belgium in Year 8.
I didn't go anywhere.
No.
Trying to think of the first time
I flew anywhere
I was
I was 16
and I went to Barbados
with Jack Rider
and his family
It was brilliant
That was your first flight
First flight
Quite a large one really
Slumming it to Barbados
Yeah
Yeah
I can't remember my first one
I think
possibly to a beefer
possibly
I can't actually remember though
really if I'm honest yeah
but that was one of the first ones
that's very I'd like you
yeah I don't know why I don't remember that
so the itinerie for today
what are we doing
I'm easy
okay so we've got a 14 year old
teenager who needs to get out of bed
we've then got to go for breakfast
tricky because
the three of us want to go
but Joni doesn't want to go for breakfast
That's when the earache will start up
Then she'll get the earache, yeah
She really because of the sausage quality
I know but she can have a bit of bacon
She can
She hasn't been overly
Adventurous is she
On the food front
Last night she had some white beans
Didn't she?
She did and she
Had some meatballs
She enjoyed those
She really enjoyed those
Tried a bit of tomatoes
Didn't like that
Did she?
She's standing now by the window with a pair of...
What is she doing?
What are you doing, babe?
I think she's trying to say that she's singing.
Oh.
Yeah, she has made a bit of a miraculous recovery on the earfront.
She did have neurophen, though.
Yes.
All I can see when I look at you.
It's in the background
Joni's singing of her headphones on.
Oh, she's gone.
What a shame.
Yeah, so we need to get everyone on track really, don't we?
We need to all want to do the same thing.
Go out for breakfast.
Then we need to...
What are we going to do for lunch?
What's been really nice on this holiday
because it isn't all-inclusive when we're in a villa?
The food aspect has been much more...
Yes.
Normal, should we say?
Yeah, I've not been having three or four cake type things for breakfast every day, which is only a good thing.
I have to say when you do the all-inclusive, it is very hard not to over it.
Well, we've only ever done one all-inclusive holiday.
That is true.
And that was last year.
And I think we learned a lesson.
I'm not saying I wouldn't do it again, but I would be really strict on what I ate.
Yeah.
But if we have a large breakfast that say half-11, we don't tend to have lunch, do we?
We just go and have dinner.
No.
And the girls will have a packet of crisp or something.
It's easy.
isn't it?
I'd really like one of those
spinach and feta parcels.
I'm not going to lie to you.
Oh.
I need one.
Go to the bakery.
Do you think I could...
Fly some home?
You were going to say that then,
weren't you?
Fly some home.
Do you think they would travel all right?
I don't know if you're allowed to do that.
Can you fly food stuff?
Not in my suitcase.
I mean, if at the airport they've got some,
can I just take them in a carry bag?
Oh.
I don't.
I honestly don't know.
I thought there was a rule about that
I could be
who knows
that'll be a million messages
we'll see
see when we get to the airport
but no I would like one of those today
okay
last you know the last hurrah
well you're talking about sitting on
the deck chair that you've not sat on
I'd quite like his spinach and feta pastry
yeah
whilst maybe being in the hammock
no because you'd have crumbs all over the pole then
oh
like my worst nightmare
Your worst nightmare is crumbs over a smoothball
Crumbs over anything other than a plate
Okay
Fair enough
What about the guy that we've booked our table with tonight
Oh he's hilarious
Real character, isn't he?
He looks like
Imagine Lionel Bart
I keep saying Lionel Bart
You mean Lionel Blair
Lionel Bart
Lionel Blair
Did the music for Oliver
Lionel Blair
is who I'm talking about
The guy just randomly burst into dance
He burst into dance
He was on extras
With Ricky Jervais
And he did
What did he do?
Help me!
Chirrads
What did you call it?
What was the show?
Oh my god
You lost me
Don't be ridiculous
Chirrard's?
Yes
On ITV
he presented it
charades
the other name for charades
there'll be people screaming now
oh I can't believe it
screaming out the name
I'll have to Google it
I can't have this
you can't Google it
that breaks a tradition
no I can't have it
right Joni
your ear hurts
your ear hurts
Joni you've been singing
for an hour
to be honest with you
my ears hurt
no I'm joking
Lionel Blair
yeah
give us a clue
thank God for that
I've no idea
give us a clue it was brilliant
I don't know
no that was the name of the programme
oh give us a clue
hello Joanie
but that's who this guy looks like
in the restaurant the owner
Joanie we're just talking about the
owner of the restaurant we're going to tonight
funny looking isn't he
You're saying Lionel Blair's funny looking
I don't say he's funny looking
No he's a real character
He likes Joni
He gave us a really nice table we have a night
And we're going back there
And Johnny has made a new friend on holiday
Haven't you darling
Yeah
Are you hoping to see your friend again tonight
Yeah
And what is your friend?
A cat
Lots and lots of cats
we've noticed in this village
and there's a lovely tabby cat
that Joni made friends with
in the restaurant, didn't you?
Oh, she's full of the joys.
Her ears hurting.
She doesn't want to talk.
Fair enough, darling.
Good singing, though, a minute ago.
You hear?
Yeah, we heard.
Is it?
It's quite loud.
I'm a head friend, John.
Are you looking forward to having some bacon at breakfast time?
I don't want to go out.
Pardon?
I think it'll be nice to go out for our last morning.
I want to get something from the shop.
And what do you want to get from the shop?
Bacon, flour, milk and eggs.
So Daddy can do bacon and pancakes.
Self-raising flour.
I don't think
were you self-raising flour
and pancakes, Joanie
Oh, what one do we use?
Plain flour
Yeah
We're not going to buy all the ingredients
though, Joanie
because it would be a waste
Wouldn't it?
Because we go tomorrow
Why don't we go to
the place we went to yesterday
We can ask for a plain pancake
And some bacon
All right
Well, this is what I was saying
This is one of the challenges
Because then what we'll have
Once we've overcome the breakfast brunch saga
There'll then be a little conflict of interest
I think in terms of what we're doing in the afternoon
But we'll see
I think we should just go with the flow
Like the slide
Yes
Joni's going on the slide
Joni's going to have a day off from the pool are you
A sensible I think
You can do some of your workbooks that money bought you
No
I want to do this
Brilliant
Watching TV
Brilliant
Have you had a lovely holiday though
Joni
Yeah
Well I've loved it
I've loved having
Us time
You not doing a hundred things at home
Yes
Not rushing around
No
Not worrying about work
Emails etc
A tiny bit
A tiny bit
You have as well to be fair
bit, everything that's been completely necessary, but it's been lovely.
We have been good.
We've managed, I mean, there's been things I've had to do whilst I've been
away, which has been unfortunate.
But I think we've done very well in terms of...
I've done really well.
Yeah.
It is good.
And that is important.
It's very, very easy, isn't it, these days to get tied up?
Because you're so contactable or it's possible for you to do stuff still remotely.
Yeah.
Very easy for people.
Yep.
so yeah we do feel like we've switched off right should we start our day then well we've got
the excitement of waking up eliza fantastic are you going to go are you going to do that or shall I
no I'll go okay good luck thank you you can take the backup of joanie with you to
no she'll be all right she'll be all right she'll wake up easy it's late now right I hope
you've enjoyed our lovely little conversation on our last day of holiday
We're very relaxed. I hope it's relaxed due. We're back to the grind, back to the studio, back home soon. And before we know, it'll be September. Kids will be back to school. And you'll be talking about Christmas. Woo-hoo! See you, everyone. Bye.
