Nats on the way in just a moment.
After this episode, you should line up Get a Grip to play next.
Angela Scanlan and Vicki Patterson have had some brilliant chats lately.
You know the kind you're having in the group WhatsApp with your mates?
Yeah, them.
From the good and the bad bits of loneliness to performative holidays,
they're having proper, honest conversations.
Get a Grip is a perfect poolside listen.
Download now so this summer, wherever you go, take your favourite podcasts with you.
Morning, everybody. So, so lovely here in the 40th birthday pod. I'm in tears, crying, listening to the end. It's so lovely. And it just made me really giggle that your dad was upset, that you've interrupted the golf every year for the last 40 years because that's exactly what my sister's done with my dad. And he was playing golf on the day that she was born. She was born six weeks early, so no one was expecting it.
my granddad, after dropping me off at my other granddad's house, had to drive to the golf course somewhere else in Essex and run, like, just somehow run across the golf course.
I must have got a buggy because he was old.
Just go and get him here.
He said, oh, she's going to have to wait because I've won and I need to get my price.
I'm like, oh, gosh.
So, yeah, it's just, it's just funny that there's another dad that's like, let just give me the golf, please.
Just give me the golf.
Oh, bless her.
You've made a lot of people cry.
I know.
The last pod.
Well, I was getting those of messages about it, but I hadn't even heard it.
Yes.
I didn't have time to listen to it on my birthday.
No.
But it was beautiful.
Thank you.
Yeah, when I listened to it, the kids were so cute, weren't they?
Yeah, really cute.
Can you believe it's my week anniversary of being 40?
Joking.
So now you're 40 years old plus seven days.
That's crazy, isn't it?
How it works?
The time thing.
You don't do the actual math?
Math.
In days.
What do you mean?
Oh, in hours.
Oh, the full day, yeah, no, I can't do that on the spot.
And I know you're pleased that it's over, but it's actually still not over,
which is a shocker for you, like.
No, we've got a lot going on.
We have a little chat about that with your mum.
I know, gosh, more celebrations, no.
It's been wonderful.
I mean, we've celebrated.
Yeah, we've had holiday.
We celebrate, on Sunday we were with family friends, celebrating.
And just, I was actually just going to say about Sunday.
is it just us that can't seem to manage or get together
that we had such a nice day with some family
and that we said if the children were there
they would have outnumbered us
Yes
That's why you can't, it's impossible
And it's taken us how long to do that
To get together
When did we go out earlier and in the year
But that wasn't, that was just the girls
I'm talking about that all of us
No yeah I know we haven't
I feel like you were trying to talk about that
at Dominic's wedding.
Oh, probably.
Yeah, probably.
I think that's when it was.
Yeah.
And that was in 2020.
They've changed it so many times.
It's like, it's lovely.
The Ferraros and the weights, our family friends.
Yeah, it's lovely.
And I feel like we've got a little WhatsApp group set up now.
That's good.
And I feel like that will now prompt us to do a few things.
Well, it actually came from when we had Dad 60th.
Yes.
They wanted us to go back there.
And we didn't end up going for,
various different reasons.
So we managed, and it was a year later,
basically bang on the day.
But I feel like you do, life goes by so quickly.
With us, we're very lucky because we talk all the time and it's just a given for us.
But the extended then friends, you have to make an effort.
And someone's always going to have plans to find the day.
To get this date in, hence why it was a Sunday.
Because ideally we didn't want a Sunday.
But sometimes you've just got to do it.
It was the only thing we could do.
And also it's then getting child care.
Everyone's got to get child care.
Of course.
And they're all related.
So they're trying to manage it between their moms and in-laws.
Yeah.
So yeah, but it was really lovely.
It was really nice.
So I do need to get the next one in.
Well, the pizza's good.
Oh, excellent.
You did a great job.
Yeah, they made so much effort.
It was really cute.
Great cocktails.
Oh, I heard.
Excellent pinocalada.
Oh, brilliant.
That's really nice.
We gave our orders and they come up trumps.
Excellent.
Oh, lovely.
And then I'm,
out on Thursday.
Yep.
With work a lot, celebrating some of my old work a lot for drinks.
Lovely.
So, yeah, it's fun times.
Yeah, then I go away again, which is very exciting.
And I feel like we actually be able to chill a bit.
Relax, yeah, rejuvenate.
Recoop.
That's the one, yeah.
Have it recoup today, though.
You've had a bit of a shocker with the old windscreen.
Well, I don't know if it's happened today.
Oh.
I didn't hear it.
I don't think, I literally...
No, maybe it's happened while the car's been parked.
Really?
Oh, yeah.
I've got a chip on my, I call it a wind.
Chip on your shoulder.
Chip off the elbow.
My wind screen.
No, but I, I've not noticed it last time I felt it ping.
And I heard it and this time.
Pardon me.
She didn't say that bit, did she?
And not today.
No, I know.
Yeah, well, it must have been that.
No, there was another time.
Oh, I'm sorry.
And I picked the kids up earlier and I didn't notice it.
I reckon it's happened.
You might, you could have had like a skip blurry come down.
You might have not heard it.
Gutted.
What a shit.
It's just an app like you said, another thing to do.
Yeah, it is aggravation.
I'll tell you what, July is a joke.
In fact, it starts with your mum's birthday.
Oh, which is a present buying constant father's day.
Yeah, and your dad's been his brother's birthday today.
July is more so than June.
Because mum's at the beginning and then you get a little braver.
Then it's Evies and it's James' years and then it's just constant, constant.
constant.
All of Mark's family is at the end of June, July.
It's like everything together.
I text you did and said,
please don't have a baby in June or July if you have another one.
Yeah, it's true.
Please.
Well, it's like the family friends we were talking about,
one of them not, they have it all around New Year's Eve.
Yeah, beginning the chat.
But it's like all of them, chaos.
So you've got all Christmas, that.
It all just seems to happen at once, didn't it?
Yeah, see, mine's nice, May.
No one else in May.
really. Jack?
Jack. Yeah, just me and Jack.
Lovely.
It's quite a lot for me.
But in a way, for me,
even though I always feel a bit under pressure this time of year,
my birthday, Ruby's and Alf is.
But then once it's done, I feel like,
now come a little break.
I know what you mean. I do know what you mean.
I just don't think it's ever going to.
It's only going to get worse.
There's just more, adding.
Nah, we love it, don't we?
Hi, Life with Nat and Co.
I just wanted to send a message
and Sam, having a challenging time at the minute,
and listening to your pod and your conversations
and listening to Roro,
talking about her toenail, had me
laughing. And I always laugh when I listen.
So thank you for bringing me joy and laughter.
And that was from Lisa.
So I'm pleased we can help
and I hope it's not too challenging whatever you're going through.
Oh, do it happen to me yesterday.
So I picked the kids up from their summer camp
and Ruby cried because she didn't win a medal
because they do like some medals after she started crying.
So that was good.
Then she cried because she didn't have any water
in a water bottle.
So I said,
we've got to go to Tesco to get some dinner.
I buy you some water in there.
She just cried.
Got into Tesco,
just cried because it was cold.
The fridges were cold.
She just need to go to bed.
Yeah, exactly.
So she's crying.
Then Alfie was trying to help.
Then he wasn't listening.
They were just being nuts.
And I had a trolley.
I didn't have a trolley out of basket.
It was heavy.
They're trying to lean on me.
Sounds like hell.
Yeah.
Anyway, I'm by, I was trying to look for a lip seal.
Ovs.
They don't sell them in there.
Couldn't find one.
No, yes, they do.
I kid you not.
At the end, down the bottom by the pharmacy bit.
Nowhere to be seen.
Really? Maybe you're a fucking animal.
I'm desperate.
I've got loads.
You should have said, I've put you on.
I've got one.
So I was looking, and this lady turned around and she went,
she went, you're doing a really good job.
Did you need to cry?
No, I didn't.
Basically saying your kids are fucked.
So good luck to you.
I just looked at so I said, I'm not.
I said, but thank you so much.
She went, no, you are.
She went, I've got a free year.
I should, but you're doing a great job in the first.
I feel like you need to hear that.
What lovely things to say.
Nice to put yourself out.
You did it the other day.
We went to Brookfield and you saw that lady, didn't you?
We've a nice cohort on and you do what I'd do.
You were like, excuse me, I just want to say that.
That looks really lovely on you.
I said, that's M&S, isn't it?
She was like, yeah, I'm going to go and have a little look.
It's good.
It's good.
How about my good deed for the day today?
Oh, Maria, you would have died.
Oh, no.
I'm so hot.
I could do with you.
it now, to be fair. Maybe she'll come and fan
me all over. We got on the tube
and there was a lovely couple
with their two-month-old baby
who was not in the bassinet being held which also
gave me a bit of, because two months you're not, you haven't
had all your jabs on the tube. What's the difference
to be in the prams? Well no, sorry, no, just in general.
You know like walking around with a baby
scares me.
We're not having the jabs yet.
You don't not go out. You don't forget the jabs.
Don't take a puppy out before jobs?
Yeah, you shouldn't.
You don't go out for two months.
No, but you shouldn't go to, but it's like if you go to, when I went with James,
it to A&E, we had to go and sit in a separate bit.
You should be careful of really, yeah.
You know, like the tube, it's hot, it's germs.
I mean, you say all that, some people don't have immunisation.
Thank you.
Yeah, no, anyway.
It's irrelevant.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, fine.
So, I feel like I'm being a bit out of order, but we did.
just, I was just sort of looking at that, thinking, is this normal?
The dad was sat down holding the baby who had a little dress on.
The dad had the baby.
And the mum is fanning this baby.
But when I say fanning, like every, really erratic,
up the skirt, back of the head.
I mean, it was hot, but you know, they were on there.
She must have been sweating.
And then Natalie gave her electric fan.
I can't watch it anymore.
But she's like,
but honestly the whole journey up and down, up and down,
up her back, up her.
I was like, is that a bit excessive?
I mean, the baby loved it.
She was like, nearly falling asleep.
But you gave her a fan.
Oh, right.
No, no, no.
I was going to give it to him.
And then I said to Elle, what's the pram look like?
I said, what's going on here?
And she went, no, it's a nice pram.
And he's got a rough shirt.
I went, no, I'll have the phone back then.
No.
They were getting on when we got.
I'm hilarious.
You're hilarious.
I know, some people just...
It was just...
It was probably one of their first out in.
Yeah, exactly.
Exactly.
They were just very keen, which is cute.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I just thought...
If Maria was sat here, she would be like, what are they doing?
Too much of a baby in a dress as well.
Oh, no.
People do it, though, didn't know?
I just put a little vest on.
Yeah, I'm funny with things like that.
No, I know.
People do it, but I'm just with the baby, I never...
Like, James was just in baby clothes for really long time.
I remember Joni it was like this baking hot
and she just lived in a little vest.
Or like the little rompers.
Yeah.
But yeah, in a dress.
With a vest underneath, actually.
Was there?
But like, you could see the vest.
I didn't, yeah.
Maybe to soak up the sweat.
They probably should wear a vest.
They should.
I need a vest on, soak up the sweat at the moment.
It is the hottest thing in this place.
Yeah. I know.
I had Alfie last night.
He was coughing.
Well, yesterday I woke up.
My eyes were streaming.
My eyes, yeah.
I mean, you can see them today.
Myma was stuck together yesterday.
What was happened yesterday?
But even this morning, mine weren't right.
I know, but this is what happens.
Yesterday, I was all, I've genuinely, I thought, have I done something?
It was all puffy and swollen all up here.
It was horrible.
But yeah, he was coughing.
Lovely shower.
I'd done all his hair lovely with the hot brush.
Oh, my goodness.
Oh, mangled.
The sweat.
He lost, somehow his tooth fell out.
Tangled.
Mangled.
Mangled.
to be had all that drama.
Two fell out, but there was lots of blood, which was strange.
I'm not sure if it was quite ready, but I don't know.
Ruby knocked it out over there.
Whilst wandering around Tesco.
But he sweats so much the kid.
I can't tell you his hair this morning.
Matted?
It matted and the curliest thing.
Like, what is the point?
What are you meant to do?
And then he had me up about three, four times last night.
How about putting it in the top, not like you do sometimes.
Yeah, it's true.
Because I do the same.
It's exactly what I should do.
I do the same with Joanie.
I can do all her hair.
And if I don't platter it, she wakes up and it's matted.
But also, who wants to sleep with their hair down?
Joanie.
Yeah, kids do the weird.
All in her face.
Well, today she had all her hair down.
I don't understand it.
No, it's different when you're out.
But to go, my hair, the minute I get home, it goes in the highest bun on my head.
Yeah.
Can't wait.
Yeah.
I'm having all my extensions out tomorrow.
Really looking forward to it, babe.
I can't do it anymore.
I need a rest.
You can't do it anymore.
I just need to see it anymore.
I just need to see it anymore.
I just need to see it anymore.
I just need to see if I can style my own hair without them
and I think I'll be able to with the Dyson.
I'm going away again, aren't I?
I just don't want them in.
I need a nice, even colour, a little toner.
How long have they been in for?
I don't know.
Six months maybe.
Not too bad.
I mean, I lost a year of mine.
It's mad.
No, but I need to, it's aggravating me.
What are you going to do?
Just a little trim.
I need a nice all over colour.
I don't know.
Not a little bit darker than I am now to make it a bit glossy.
Healthier.
Just a bit healthy.
A little bit darker.
And just have a little rest from it so I can put my hair masks in that when I'm away, et cetera.
Nice.
I'm looking forward to it.
I'll probably be crying tomorrow night.
I feel like I'm bald, won't I?
Well, it just...
It does.
Yeah, it does.
But I think after a day I'll be fine.
But nice little trim.
Hair extensions, I went to the hospital all the other day just for an appointment on my foot.
And they said I've got to have an MRI.
Oh, I beg your pardon.
Wow.
She loves it, didn't she?
Sorry.
Me?
Love just going to Harlow, didn't you?
That went hollow, is it?
No.
It wasn't actually.
I mean, no, I didn't really want to.
But the pain that I was in before holiday, it's essential.
So I went to see the consultant.
He said I needed an MRI, which I thought was a bit dramatic.
What is that?
The one in the machine?
Yeah, I've never had one, don't know.
But he basically said, we don't just want to look at the bone,
which would be an x-ray.
They want to look a bit deeper.
It could be, yeah, anyway, it's fine.
So I'm filling out the form.
It was like, do you have a wig or hair extension?
So I ticked hair extensions.
The fucking rigmarole?
because they've got metal in them.
I had to go down to the MRI bit,
that had to put a magnet to see if...
I said, what would happen?
They said, well, you just feel like your head pulling a bit,
but they were okay.
She was like, can you take them out?
I know, but it's weird, but it's the same is when I have my op,
and they were like, you have to take your hair extensions out.
I said, well, that's not going to happen, is it?
But obviously, the difference is your...
No, but it's the same is you've got to take your nails off.
If I fall and nearly broke my neck and end up in hospital,
they're not going to go, oh, hold on,
got to take your hair extension.
No, but in case...
I know, but it does blow my brains of it.
I had to sit and they were putting this magnet
and then another woman come on with a magnet.
I was like, what is going on?
But anyway, we're all good.
You're all good.
I'm not magnetic.
That's good.
I'm sorry, I was trying to find
because you mentioned your nails.
We had a message
from a lady.
Today.
I'm getting a new set.
I'm not knocked one off today.
You did?
It wasn't good.
Mine looked good.
Yours didn't.
Two off.
You came.
Without one.
Yeah, that's a shock.
No, someone mentioned your toenow.
Yes.
And saying, because you're allergic on your hands,
it takes a lot longer, but possibly the toe could be that reason.
Lovely.
Stunning.
My toenails are going to fall off, basically.
There's a thing.
Aren't they changing the law?
There's a new law about gel.
Oh, I saw that about gel.
We should have picked that up.
It's very relevant for us.
Oh, very uncomfortable.
Well, what is it then?
It's like some, I don't know, like a law, like a new ingredient.
I don't know, they're banning some ink.
Oh, okay.
Hopefully that will help me.
There you go.
I don't think it is the nails.
No.
My skin's great at the moment.
Fair enough.
Hi, ladies.
Stacey from Ken.
Really going to keep this quickly, but another topic that I think we need to discuss.
I've just been to a local, like, thing, like in our town.
They do like music six weeks in the summer, every Friday night.
Anyway, it's people at school that want to do reunions.
But it's always the ones that are really happily smuggly married that they want to do the reunions.
So it's like, oh, guys, let's get together.
Because my husband is like a pilot and three houses.
Gosh, I've never seen you for so long.
But you bump into them at these random nights.
out on your local town.
Anyway, that's what I think we should do.
That's also probably gone,
oh no, almost at the minute.
Anyway, Stacey and Stacey will be a great topic.
I think Stacey's a little bit
inebriated when sending that.
I love it.
I just feel like it'd be a good topic.
I mean, I'm not having a go, trust me.
I couldn't think of anything
worse than a reunion.
Reunion, no, not for me.
I wouldn't, I mean, I don't think I would go.
I wouldn't say I'd think of anything worse.
Who's organising that?
Well, you're saying that.
Your dad went to one and he's made a great friend out of it,
hasn't he?
Yeah.
He went.
Maybe it's something you do in older.
Maybe.
Who's got time to do it?
I can't even see my mates, do you know what I'm saying?
I mean, it would be interesting, but would it?
Is there anyone I really want to see?
And then it's all.
that small chat.
So what are you up to now?
I don't know.
I couldn't think of anything worse.
No, no.
I don't think it would be for me.
And I do think she's right.
I think the people's taste that organise them are super happy
and they want to brag about their lives.
But they're nice for people that are maybe lonely and would like to reconnect.
You know, yeah, reconnect with maybe there could be an old friend.
I mean, I'm in a group thing on Facebook.
I don't know how I've got onto it.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
The soul.
Yeah.
So I think there is maybe social media,
maybe I don't know how much that happens now
because of social media,
you can just be in groups,
can't you,
and connect and talk.
But then the other day I saw our old PE teacher
on LinkedIn.
He's retiring.
So I put a comment saying,
oh, you're a legend,
good luck with it all.
And he replied saying,
love teaching all the Cassidys or something.
Except for earlier.
No, that's nice.
Oh, but that's nice.
It's great.
I thought you said he'd,
He died.
That was when we were on a holiday after you said he died.
No, you were definitely pissed.
Oh, fine.
Fair enough.
We didn't drink much on holiday.
We weren't terrible.
Earlier, we're out of control.
We were on holiday.
We had a lovely time.
It's only because we were in charge of the bottles.
If we were in a hotel, we would never have known.
No, that's true.
Yeah, that is true.
And also, there's a lot of us.
I know, it's true.
You know, four people, that's a bottle of wine gone.
Yeah.
Agreed. It was excellent though, wasn't it?
It was so lovely.
It was really good.
I think we should really talk about, I think, to make, not just talk about our holiday,
is the pros and cons to villas.
You know, like if people are out there thinking, what should I do next summer?
Me and your mum have sort of gone into it.
Bastards.
Sorry, my.
I was so against the villa, wasn't I?
I was like, we've got to do a hotel because who wants to be cooking and cleaning and this and that.
But I feel like we were a good.
He's pros and cons.
I think the fact that there were so many of us
we all really chipped in and did one night.
Don was cooking me and that did a lunch.
Maria, you did a lot of the kids bit.
Like everyone did their bit.
But for me it was that getting up in the morning,
not having to, before you've even had a sip of coffee,
you're having to get ready, pack bags, pack all the stuff in a bag,
sun cream.
You know, everything is just...
I love a villa.
Mum would be like, well, I'm ready.
I'm happy to go and sit by the pool.
So all the kids were going, mum, why we're then...
still maybe doing breakfast for the babies or, or say babies, they're not babies.
But for me, every time I go away, it's the kitchen for me.
I'm obsessed with it.
Yeah, the kitchen was great though.
So cute, isn't it?
I was the same in Greece.
I was just in the kitchen.
But you sort of don't mind doing it because, but then we are different.
We enjoy cooking.
We enjoy, and especially when you're buying the produce that you're buying, which is unbelievable.
But also, like you say, because you're in a villa, you're in the pool a lot late.
Like when we went to Dubai, the sun went down quite early.
And you're conscious you've got to go and get the kids feds.
You've got to, when you're there, you can be out as early and late.
So you don't mind having an hour or so.
Like, to be fair, sometimes it was so hot, one day means.
And it was actually nice.
Me and Dom spent a little couple of hours in the kitchen together.
Yeah.
Having a chat.
He was watching the golf.
Don was moving the whole telly into the kitchen for Dad to watch the golf while he was cooking.
Is that normal?
And Dad, to be fair, like.
No, Dad did.
Yeah.
But we all did.
Yeah.
I think everyone chipped in.
Yeah, I just think.
And there's always someone that even when you're around the pool,
there's always someone that's getting up,
you're like, I'll go and get another bottle of wine.
Do you what I mean?
It's like aggravating.
When you're just trying to quickly go for a sly way,
and everyone's like, you definitely won't go for a sly way.
No.
But even going, getting out of the pool and just, you know,
everyone, you know, you pick up a couple of glasses when you're going back in,
that sort of thing.
But as usual, your mum didn't seem a lot.
A lot of tidying.
A lot.
But it was, um, it's a couple.
Just a lovely experience.
For me, it's the mornings of not having to get all ready.
And the kids getting up.
They're not going, Mommy, I want to, you know,
you imagine Alfie wants to go, but you're sorting out Ruby.
And they can just go downstairs, get on with it.
Yeah.
And then the evening's having to not get ready to go out.
Unbelievable.
Yeah, that's for me.
It's a game changer.
But do you know what?
I thought when we go away as family, like the four of us,
well, who am I getting ready for?
No, you're not
I don't have to...
No, I know, but I don't need...
I can put my hair back and put a dressing in the...
Yeah, yeah, yeah, but you can do that with your hair.
I wouldn't go out.
If my hair was wet from the pool, I'd have to do it.
Yeah, same.
You know, I can't...
Yeah, I can't wear it.
Especially extensions.
We can't have to wash it.
But to get out the pool with soaking wet hair,
have a shower, leave it wet,
come down in a little dress or a pyjama.
It was unbelievable.
But it's even just...
I know there's a getting ready element,
but it's even just the whole year not having to go out and sit with other people.
And the kids are happier because they're happy to play.
And their imaginative play, wasn't it amazing on holiday?
They were all playing together with different things.
They were so good.
I was doing jokes with them.
They loved it.
Every night, Alfie loved with Joni, we played O'No, but he's playing properly now.
Well, we were playing game.
They stayed up with us, didn't they?
I've really missed everybody this week.
I get a little bit, I'm a bit strange like that.
You know, we're like, oh, back to normal.
No, like the separation.
I don't like it.
I love seeing the children all the time.
Yeah, it was lovely.
And I miss Dominic as well.
Miss the golden boy, don't I?
Of course.
Some quality of time is there.
No, it was a lovely holiday.
The children were very, very good.
They were.
The pool was beautiful, wasn't it?
Lovely.
Obviously, we lucked out a bit with the pool.
It was huge.
It was big.
So when everyone's in it, you don't feel like you're on top of each other.
The only thing that was a nightmare was the infinity side.
I know.
And all of that, all the floats or all the toys kept going off the edge.
If you book a villa with an infinity pool, it's not what it's cracked up to be.
No, don't bother.
If you've got children with little fishes and stacking cups and blocks that are all just falling over the edge.
The poor boys every day, it was like, could you go and collect all the toys up again?
Although we gained a few lilloes at people.
They must have got over and people thought, fuck that.
Leave them.
Or wondering where they've gone.
Probably didn't even realize.
Yeah, probably didn't even look.
Stupid assholes.
The evenings did feel like.
they went quick.
They do because we've...
Because we were getting out late.
Well, yeah, and you feed the children,
and then by the time we ate it was late,
and then, yeah, the evening just goes.
We didn't do bad.
He was having two o'clockers most nights.
I know, but you do because by the time,
sometimes we're eating at nine, half nine.
I don't know, I'll do it on a regular basis here.
Not two's, but it's always midnight
if me and Mark one an hour.
Yeah, apparently again, there's a lot of you.
It's hard, isn't it?
Well, it's really lovely.
I really hope we do it again.
I think as just one family,
unless you've got like three, four children.
Yeah, see I always see the villa thing as like two families.
If there's more than one family, I definitely think the villa thing.
Kids can be up playing, you can have a conversation.
Even for me, it was lovely to be able to go, right, it's 8 o'clock.
Yeah, James was having some late nights, 8, 9 o'clock go to bed, I can relax then.
But that's why I know, like you say, I am one family,
but that's mostly the reason that we do it, because the children can then get in bed
and you have a nice lounge, you can sit downstairs, you can relax.
Yeah, because especially for you, otherwise you don't ever, you don't get any time.
And again, having Eliza who sleeps in, again, imagine that.
I don't know, I probably would now because she's older.
But I would find it a bit weird all going down to a pool in a hotel and leaving her up there.
I'd probably be like, come on, we've got to go now.
Yeah.
Whereas she can have a kip and you're down by the pool and you're making stuff.
Yeah.
I feel like even in hotels though, like obviously you've got all the entertainment.
but by that time sometimes the kids are a bit tired
at least in a villa they can just go and play with their dolls
I don't like it.
I don't like entertainment.
Yeah, you don't like entertainment.
Yeah, I've got no interest.
Yeah, it doesn't.
Again, if James was at an age where he wants to sit and watch it, then of course.
But I mean, I think, again, different.
Your children are older now.
So if you were in a hotel and they might make some little friends
or they would maybe play, whereas for me with James,
All he wants to is just walk around, so I'm not sitting down.
No, no, no, absolutely.
Yeah, it's not enjoyable, is it just running around after him?
Yeah, it's just different.
Sorry, today we went to the Covent Garden Transport Museum, which was lovely.
It was really nice.
It was first time on a train, wasn't it?
Oh, he loved it.
But, you know where you have, like, bars where you're not allowed into the old carriages and stuff?
I don't know how he got in there.
We've been about, I was standing with him, and I think this woman said,
do you want to look at this?
And I went like that, and he slid under it.
he will get through any gap possible.
He was running, you were running after him today, right?
Yeah.
He's funny, isn't he?
He was like, don't worry about the pram, leave it.
He can walk round.
No, but he enjoyed it and it's good to let him wander around.
But what a lovely museum.
It's a lovely one.
Is it?
It's only small, but it's nice.
All the old trains, the horse and cart.
Yeah, yeah.
It was really nice.
It's a nice one.
And if you pay, again, summer holidays coming up for people,
and it isn't an advert, obviously.
But it's one of those.
you pay today, but that ticket you've got on your phone and it's the whole year.
Oh, that's nice.
So again, it's 23 quid, something like that, but you have it for the whole year.
The children are free?
I was going to say, is it just...
So just the adults.
So again, if you go, if you go a couple of times a year, it's worth it.
Children, all children are free.
Oh, nice.
It was cute.
And also then you're in Common Gardens.
So then we went out, you got all the people doing all the entertainment.
It was a little London day with the cute.
It was really nice, actually.
We had a bit of lunch.
Obviously, weather was lovely, so we could.
Where do you have lunch?
In the little...
V-Y-T-A?
All cream.
What, in the square?
In the square.
You had all the jugglers out.
It was like being on me holidays.
It's lovely, isn't it?
Yeah, that's what I did in, um, when did we go out?
What was this thing?
When was that earlier on in the year?
Oh, yes.
It was a beautiful day, but it was a Monday.
You know, we took us see Gypsy Kings.
Obviously, Monday's just a bit.
Yeah.
But we went Covent Garden.
We sat up, you know, the Punch and Jude up there.
That's what me on.
It was buzzing.
Fine.
It's a bit of atmosphere, do you know what I mean?
Yeah.
Yeah, it is nice.
Just a lot of people in the summer holidays, isn't it?
Yeah, was it?
Well, to be honest, we did well.
I think Covent Gardens, to be honest, it's always because it's such a touristy play, no,
but just summer holiday, like for me, who goes to things.
Everywhere's ram.
And then you get to summer holidays and you're like, oh, great.
And all the kids are all.
All Ruby's birthday, we even just several pop to the park.
Oh, my God.
Oh, no, it was so busy.
No, I don't like that.
No.
It's terrible really, isn't it?
I do like things a bit quiet.
Yeah, I'm the same.
So I'm not really doing much in the old holidays.
Like going to the zoo?
Absolutely not.
I know, but also people have to do it within the holiday.
Of course, yeah.
Well, no, their kids are off.
It's not there for.
I'm just saying for my selfish reasons.
And anyone else that has a child not at school
will be that's at home with them.
They'll understand that.
Yeah, absolutely.
But can I just say, I can't believe how organised people are.
Yeah, always.
I have to be.
I mean, I've looked at the Roldale Museum, which is just past Watford.
Where's that?
I've had a little look, and I thought that would be a lovely day for me and Joan,
or, you know, just having a look.
I'd like to do a few things with Joni.
I'd love that.
Yeah.
I'd like to do that.
Fully booked.
Fully booked.
What, is it just a pop-up thing then?
No.
It's a museum.
Oh, but we can go another time then.
No, I know.
I'm just saying, I can't believe.
Yeah, but it does go.
They're days off, don't they?
Or they've booked time off, and they know what they do.
No, it makes me feel terrible that I'm a bit unorganised.
It's only because your work is different.
More flexible.
Yeah.
So you might not book something because a job might come up.
Yeah, I know.
Same is Christmas.
Whereas other people are working full-time or four days a week.
So they know they've got that a week.
Yeah, already I've got a day in the diary, November the 5th.
I've got an event that I need to go to, so I'm not around for a bonfire night.
Talking of bonfire night, I've bought your present.
What day?
Does that land on?
I'm not even bothering
because Ruby fucking cries every year
I think this shit
she might be alright
I'm not going to open them
for the sake of our listeners
and not visual watches
I've bought some elegant autumn
two pack the Lord T-Tails
from B&M's
4 quids
the leaves are falling
there we go
thank you
what's happening out there
it's all kicking on
hold on each
summer
there we go
I went into BNM
and I couldn't believe
I mean, I don't know, you're saying that
I guarantee you in about three weeks we'll start
seeing Christmas stuff. No, but I can believe
it. What are we now? July is fucking
these aren't very good, they don't drive
very well, do they? I bought them as a joke, a £2
each, I thought you could, they'll be nice.
What, we haven't got one each? Yes.
Where's Maria's pack? No, that's one
each. You've got one each?
Well, I don't want that one, I want that one.
I love the least. Fine, leave it out. Leave it out.
You can have them, my love.
I'm all right.
Oh, I like the one, actually.
Anyway, I just had to buy...
No, you're nice.
We can't start talking about the burn mumps yet, surely.
Oh, the burmumps.
I'm not excited.
Yeah.
No, I'm not.
Do you know what?
Last night I was sitting there.
I'm changing my tune.
Changing my tune.
I'm enjoying summer this year.
I mean, I feel like...
Hold on.
There's a hundred conversations.
Go on.
Sorry, just quickly.
Last night I was sitting there, and I looked at the window,
and I think it was about quarter past nine.
It's pitch black.
Quarter past nine.
Peach black.
Right, what's your point?
It's July.
What's you mean?
It's summer.
Longest days.
I know.
I know.
I'm just saying it's weird, isn't it?
Yeah.
Already now, it's getting dark.
Mm-hmm.
I'm dreading that.
Clock change.
Although I did say...
Love it.
I do...
I'm looking for a little cozy night
him strictly on the red wine.
The strictly is going to be...
Have you seen Pete who's doing strictly so far?
Let's have a little chat about that.
Go on.
So, who we got.
Lacey. Lacey, Lacey. Lacey. We've got Jamie Winston.
Oh, no.
Jamie, Jamie up the road.
Lovely.
Oh, I think it's going to be a bit of a character on there.
Yeah, she is a character.
I'm going to commit to it this year.
Yeah, I think it'd be good.
Danny Dyer's back.
I was like.
Danny Dyer's back because obviously she had an injury and I'm pleased they've done that for her.
That's really nice.
Who else we got?
I don't know.
You fucking bought that.
Someone from House of Dragons, some actresses or something.
Oh, and the very famous hairdresser to the Kardashian.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yes. I did see that.
Oh, what's his name?
Is he a celebrity or a hairdresser?
He's a hairdresser, but he's...
Celebrity hairdresser.
Is he a character?
It looks a bit of a character.
Yeah, he was married, I think.
I don't know if he's got children and then he come out.
Okay.
Let's get he went through that sort of journey.
Okay, fine.
What's his name?
Lovely guy.
Yeah, great guy.
I think he's going to be a great one.
So, mate.
Lovely guy.
Great guy.
Fantastic guy.
What about talking of mates?
Ricky Jervais calling me his chum.
Oh, no.
Well, it wasn't, Ricky.
It was a son newspaper.
which is a load of bollocks.
But anyway, we'll go for it.
I've watched all the series.
He's tagging you in a lot of shit, though.
He don't leave off.
Collab, collab, collab, every day, Rick.
Do us a favour.
I'm busy, Matt.
I'm busy here.
No, he does.
He's very good at his press, you see.
Very good.
Even when you think about someone like that,
how big they are,
and the amount he's collaborating,
do you want to, you know,
getting the series out there, very good.
Why is he so obsessed with it?
Because he's very, very good at his PR.
He knows what he needs to do.
But yeah, I've watched it all.
Is it good?
I've got one more to watch.
It's fantastic.
Is it?
Yeah.
And I'm really chuffed and proud of my bit.
Oh.
I want to show you it.
But I'm not allowed at the moment.
Embargoed, I'll show you later.
I'll watch.
It's next week, and it's out?
Yeah, I'll watch it when I'm back.
But it's excellent.
It's just, yeah, what you would expect, but animated form.
That's brilliant.
Excellent.
Football starts soon.
That's going to take over every bit of watching.
Not here.
Not really for me.
No.
I love it, but it does.
It takes over.
I can't after the World Cup.
It's fucking dummy in that.
No, but it's different Premier League.
No, no, but it's just a delicate.
I mean, yeah, the late nights have absolutely ruined me.
What I was going to say about summer is great.
People are still moaning that we're going to a heat wave,
just get over it in summer.
I think this whole heat wave.
We're sort of in it, I'm just hot.
It's just permanently hot.
Do you think?
in Italy they go, oh, we're having a heat.
It's just hot.
So I don't want to hear that anymore.
We have to stop moaning about it.
Agreed.
This is just who we are.
We've all wanted it.
We've wanted it forever.
However, the grass is fucking hot.
The grass is finished.
Oh, I was listening to LBC the other day
and they were doing the whole hose pipe thing.
And the bloke come on.
And, I mean, brave of him, because it is illegal.
He was like, well, I'll tell you what I've done.
I've just filled up my hot tub.
And she was like, well, I'm with the hose?
He said, yep, I've done it.
Do you think the people who have put the hose pipe ban in place?
Do you think the director of Thames Water hasn't got a swimming pool?
He said, and I'm going to keep using my hose pipe and continue.
No, but the swimming pools already fill up.
No, I know.
No, but you know.
Yeah, no, fine.
Someone I saw on my Facebook has put up a thing of the paddling pool saying,
I've kept this clean for two weeks.
I'm so proud of myself.
And I'm like, have you?
Or are you?
I can.
I don't care.
But she's trying to justify it.
Justify it.
It is mad though, in it?
Because the grass is, I mean, my grass has finished anyway.
It's a real shame.
I was going to have it all really late.
I was going to have it all done.
And there would have been a hose pipe bag.
Well, that's sort of what we've done.
So it's a real shame because our brand new, beautiful, green grass is fucked.
Is it?
I'm not.
It's not funny.
Is it really?
And all our plants, everything that we, I mean, we can use the watering can.
We're just have, we're, we're, we're, we're,
going around with the watering can.
You have to.
We haven't got loads of grass though, have we?
The grass.
Sorry.
The plants.
And the plants, yeah.
Why don't you just pay the fine and use the hose?
No, you laugh.
Why can't you?
You're not allowed to use the hose pipe.
Why not?
No, listen.
But you can put the hose pipe in the watering can.
Now, I understand.
No, you can't.
You can't use the hose pipe.
So how am I filling up the water in the kitchen?
But what is the?
Or from the water but.
The tap outside.
We've got some water butts that are fucking dry of the bone.
It hasn't rained for 38 days.
But hang on.
The tap outside.
Yes, darling.
I can't use the tap.
Right, without the hose on it.
Oh, no.
Yes, you can.
So you must be able to.
The fuck it, what do you mean?
It's because when you're using a hose, you are losing lots, you're wasting water.
Because it's dripping or the hose goes like that.
So it's about consolidating
into one area.
So basically I've just ordered a watering can the size of milk.
So you could fill 10 huge buckets of water.
No, no.
You can't, no.
Because you can't fill up a paddling pool.
But this is what I'm saying.
And what I don't understand, what they should say is...
34 tomorrow.
They should stop.
The band should be on having a bath.
Any adult?
Anyone over the age of...
Because a shower uses more water.
That's what we're talking about.
It's like the hose.
If I fill up a shallow bath,
I know the volume of water I've used.
If you're standing in the shower,
I mean, Eliza's probably caused a hose back.
Yeah, with a 40-minute shower.
And washing up.
I leave your tap on.
Sorry, I do, I do.
Yeah.
I don't, when I'm brushing my teeth.
Sometimes. I do.
Oh, no, you shouldn't do that.
That's bad.
Why?
Always turn the tap.
off.
Mark has a go at me for that.
When I brush my teeth and I leave the tap on.
Do you leave it on?
No, I forget something.
He's like, you've got to turn that off.
No, I do always turn it off.
That could not be the most wasteful thing.
You're not using it for two minutes
when you're brushing your teeth.
Yeah, that's poor that.
All right, I'll stop doing that.
Cat would be fuming.
She told me off once when I stayed at her house.
But we can't all be perfect, can we?
No, but the tap, that is wild.
Not all like you, Catherine.
No, that is wild, though.
The brushing of the teeth, just up.
Yeah, but sometimes I'm cleaning
the sink whilst I'm doing it. That's true. I do that as well. You like to talk shit.
How about when I'm in the shower and I take the plug out and I'm giving it a little rub round?
Because there's a bit of dirt on there and that. I'll just get, you know.
What you should do is run a bath and then all use the bath water water water.
Get in the bath. Lots of people do that. I know. We used to do it. Yeah.
It is quite sad though because like you, you're growing all your vegetables.
Yeah, but I'm watering those with my watering can. Oh yeah.
Yeah, true. I don't get any, this, none of this is making sense. You're allowed to use a
Watering can.
But you're still using the same amount of water.
But you're not, because you're not losing it.
Can I ask you what the farmers are doing?
Their produce.
They're worried.
They're obviously allowed, aren't they?
I don't know.
They've got to be.
Otherwise, it will be fooked.
You do know, though, when you do, I have to repeat.
I know I keep repeating myself.
Oh, here she goes.
When you ask a question on chat GPT.
What's that noise?
What's that?
It's a bird?
Oh, very loud.
A bird.
A bird.
Bird.
When you ask a question.
Yes, I do know.
A bottle of water.
I know.
This bottle of water.
Why?
Because of the data centres.
They're so hot.
Oh, there we go.
Yes.
So I mean, it's fucked for the environment.
So what we've said is...
But we've had hose pipe bands before.
No, I know that.
But because it's been so severe, I think the data places should be open three days a week.
Not five.
They're everywhere.
Why are they everywhere?
Well, that's what's biting me, haven't they?
They're fruit flies, aren't they?
Are they?
They buy it everywhere.
But this is what I mean.
All this AI stuff now that everyone's using.
Yeah.
It's massive.
And we can't water our gardens.
But we have had hose pipe plants.
Dying.
Fucking living things.
Dying.
And things I've spent a lot of money on.
I'll be gutted if they go.
Honestly, I will not be happy.
Yeah, mine's.
It's really bad.
And also, it takes a really long time.
No, I know.
To do it.
It takes a long time with the hose.
So to do it with a watering can,
I haven't got time
That's crazy
That must be taking it out
I'll be going out later
And it's
I will
See I've just left mine
I've done nothing
My grass
Even if I've seen anything like it
Straw
Oh it's so bad
It's so bad
But once
Mine's getting there
It'll be lovely for the Burma
So you can put a scarecrow out
Oh,
You can put some on chileaves
Yes
Perfect
Well we'll all be fucking
Doing one at this rate
No
I'm like
A bloke
It's that chest
infection that I had from holiday.
She said she had a chest infection once on holiday.
She must have said it 15,000 times people.
Did have a really chesty cough.
It's because you don't stop vaping?
No.
That was water, aircon.
It's a lot going on.
It was a lot.
The aircon was fisty, isn't it?
Mine weren't in my room?
In the rain bit?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, no.
It was lovely, though.
Coming inside and it's freezing.
So nice.
But it's just then when you went out late at night and you're like,
It's still so hot.
Yeah, you forget when you're inside.
Because we, again, that's mad.
We stayed inside a lot of an evening.
Yeah, that is weird.
Thank God I did because I would have been hospitalized with the bites.
I couldn't have gone out.
I mean, even I got bitten and that's not a regular occurrence.
But I quite enjoy being inside.
Again, when you're on holiday, you like have to be outside.
But it was so nice in there.
We were quite happy.
Very happy.
Sat at that table.
I'd like to wish David a happy birthday today.
Well, it was a week.
We lost.
Well, I know, but I'd like to just say.
Happy birthday, Dad.
Happy birthday.
Birthday.
He went golf today so we couldn't see him.
Well, mom's calling me.
There we go.
She won't.
Maybe.
Oh, no.
I'll say I posted the stuff.
Oh, I haven't posted cards.
Oh, man.
That was my idea today.
I did well, didn't I?
Yeah.
I said, let's go from Broxhorn.
Because they live out of the way.
That's the problem.
Now I'm going to have to go out of my way.
Am I really going to do that tonight?
Yeah, it's your dad's first day.
You don't mind.
It's shocking.
Really shocking.
Did we discuss the cost of things when we were on holiday?
Done it.
Wow.
We're not going to talk about much.
No, we did.
We got one euro 30 for a bottle of rose, eh?
Maybe two euros.
No, no.
Dom got one for one 30 and it was really nice.
What's everyone's thoughts of we in the pool?
That's what I'd like to know.
Yeah, it's not my thing.
My Nova.
Not me too
Neither
Liar
That is such a lie
But what I don't get is
When you're drinking
You're just constantly wee
So you can't keep getting in and out
It's not going to happen
I don't
We all day
Yeah I mean I have to say
You are talking to someone
Who we've been to London all day
No I know
But when you're in the water
You just can't
I could have a wee
Sorry guys
I could go for a wee
And get in the shower
And still wee
Mad
Oh so she whee's in the shower as well
We're finding out.
She's slagging me off for not washing my feet in there.
She's pissing all over us.
No, not intentionally, but sometimes it's just a little bit comes out.
Yeah, I don't think.
I think that's a childbirth thing.
When you're in...
When you're in a villa and it's your own gubbings, it don't matter.
Your own gubbings.
No, I'm sorry.
Disagreing.
Mark had a nap in the pool.
Oh yeah, that's weird.
Mark had a full on laying on the side, arms out, head like that.
And we were going, we're going to go in now
So we're going to have to wake him up
Because otherwise he might drown.
Perfect.
Enjoyed himself.
But I had a full on nap.
But do you remember when you was younger
and people you say if you were in the pool
It would have all purple round you?
Is that just an absolute myth?
I think that was from,
I actually think that was from our sports centre
as someone made it up about that.
Oh really?
But also it's so as a child,
it's like saying don't like
because your hair will go,
your nose will grow.
Do you know what I mean?
Or if you eat your crush,
your hair will go curly.
It's to stop you from doing it.
I can't believe we're having that conversation
at 40 years of age
and a week
plus one

Natalie will be 50 before I'm 40.
That's not true.
Are you taking the piss?
I've got seven years, and said I'm 50.
All right, trust.
That's it, yeah.
We'll all be in the 40s together.
That's nice.
That is nice.
For a little while.
About a year.

a message saying,
Making a chili,
suck the tomato puree tube for the first time ever.
Oh my Christ, Mick.
What have I been missing all these years?
That's brilliant.
A chilly in this weather.
That's crazy.
I mean, when was it though?

Coming from you who said you were having a curry yesterday.
You were making a curry.
That's not true.
Yes, you did?
No, that was not yesterday.
Oh, the day before.
No, it wasn't.
It was Friday night.
It's Friday night.
Yeah, no.
No, it's fine, chilly, I get it.
I thought of another one the other day.
having to have a spoonful of sweet corn
cold.
And beans and bait beans?
And bait beans. I put my finger right around the rim of the tin.
Lick.
No, thank you.
I'm surprised you haven't cut your finger.
And sometimes I lick the...
Well, that's very dangerous.
Danger!
James loves eating sweet corn.
If he sees the sweet corn out, he loves eating it.
And it just reminds me of you because you love it like that.
So cute.
I've got a message.
Yeah, cool.
Go for it.
Hi, Nat and fam.
Long-time listener here just thought I'd pop on a quick message first time to cover a few things.
Oh, I like this message.
Spotted you and Mark at Wimbledon on Sunday looking fab.
Was you there?
No.
Awkward.
At least I hope it was you.
Embarrassing if not.
Fet's brilliant.
Absolutely brilliant.
It's like concrete console over again.
I thought Mark was wandering around with Wimbledon.
Continue.
Maybe Morgana was there.
Who knows?
Just watched England lose to Argentina
Oh honey, honey jean.
Just watched England lose to Argentina, gutted.
I went to uni and got a degree
and feel like it was a total waste of time.
Can elaborate further if you wish.
Lastly, fuck off if you think I'm washing my feet
every time I shower, only on special occasions.
Love the pod, love you all,
but have to say, Maria, you are my fav.
Just love your banter.
Lucy, fellow 13th of me.
My baby.
That's lovely.
Thanks,
thank you.
Thank you.

I said to her today, I said, you've got quite a lot of hair.
You need to go and get it fredded.
No, I've got.
She went, that's what I'll do my thing.
I said, no, I think you need to have a shave.
No, but I think it's a microblading thing that I've got.
Yeah.
And I think it's made it grow back.
You do it?
Yeah, I've got a thing.
Oh, no.
It does grow back.
Just go and get it all fredded.

It's that now.
What do you think?
I love it so much.
What?
What?
Watching.
Has it been good?
I haven't watched it.
I need to get into it again.

She's in B&M the other day.
There's CBD oil, though there's not.
Apparently, I don't know.
It's wild.
Oh, there's going to be, isn't there?
Goodness for me.
What do you mean there's going to be?
Isn't it?
Well, I do.
I'm starting to think it's all very fishy.
Starting to think.
Well, no, I was thinking that,
but now it feels very like a set up
just to get some dalladal.
But the documentary is excellent.
It is very good.
It is great in it, actually.
I love her.
So, our live podcast,
Nat's Nise's brunch is Saturday the 3rd of October
at Hartford,
House Hotel. Now, for the first 48 hours from today, there will be a link on Patreon. So get in there.
For any of our new members of the family, you can get in first. After that, the link will be live.
I will post it up. And you can also go to Hartford House Hotel. So please get in there.
There aren't many tickets. There are about 60 available only. So if you want to come, get in quick.
And if it goes, we'll see how it goes. But it's going to be a lovely time.
Excited. We're getting down in the basement.
Yeah, looking forward to it.
It's a bottomless brunch.
Yep.
So, yeah, all the details will be online anyway,
but have a little look.
It's Saturday, October the 3rd,
Hartford House.
It's going to be a good few hours of fun.
Us girls, we're going to have a chat.
We'll be in the room with you.
We're going to do a little bit of podding.
We're going to record a few bits,
and then we're there to chat to you for the afternoon.
So it's going to be a great afternoon.
Have a little boogie.
We've got an excellent DJ lined up.
Cracking old Natty C.
Oh, wow, that's it's a great DJ.
And we've got some other little surprise.
A couple of little surprises as well along the way.
Yeah, no, we can't wait.
Nice, it's organised and we've actually done it.
Instead of saying, oh, we, but we'd like to do that,
and it never comes to fruition, so I'm pleased we've done it.
And also, if you, I mean, we're thinking 60 tickets isn't much.
So if you don't get one and you're keen for it, let us know,
because then that will help us to know what to do next.
Can we go bigger?
We want to try and keep them as intimate as possible, don't we?
Yeah, we do.
We can actually spend some quality time with you all.
But, yeah.
No, it'd be fun.
Really is.
So, 077-8-28-20, 1919.
Let us know your thoughts on the brunch.
Let us know your thoughts about the Burmonds.
Let us know your thoughts on summer and how are you getting on.
Yeah, how you're coping.
Have you booked anything fun in the Hartfordshire area for your kids?
Because I'd quite like to know.
Because I can't find anything.
It's hard, isn't it?
Very, very hard.
I mean, the kids did come home with like a little magazine thing from school.
Oh, yeah.
Which I probably should have looked at.
Probably.
Probably wise.
I know, but I'm working.
I'll try and take the odd day here and there.
It'll be fine.
They're all right.
They're having two holidays, thanks.
Yes.
Lucky, lucky kids.
Isn't it?
Very, very lucky.
Yeah, good luck.
On that note, I'll see you soon.
I'm going to go and jump in an ice cold shower.
Yeah, it's absolutely roasting, and it?
I'll get the hose out if you want, hose you down.
Woo!
Loads of love.
Have a good one.
See you later.
