Hi, this is Sally Gander from Brentwood in Essex.
Standing here in the kitchen, making my lunch, listening to the latest scrape in the barrel,
and you're talking about the word elixir.
My Alexa keeps going off saying,
I do not know what you were asking me, or I do not understand.
So it went off about four times whilst you and Mark were trying to figure out exactly how to say the word.
But it made me laugh.
Anyway, have a good day and join the pod today.
Cheers, Sally.
What a great name.
What, Alexa?
No, Sally Gander.
Alexa.
What do you think of the name, Sally Gander?
That's going to piss everyone off, isn't it?
No, Sally, I'll like that, though, because now Sally's Alexa's going to be talking about her name.
It's a nice little thing to do, isn't it?
Personal touch.
Miss Gander.
I say Havaganda quite a lot.
Yeah.
Have a Gander.
Who was last sat in this seat?
Aunt's Lenny.
Right, okay.
because the microphone's pointing at my...
What's that called?
Neck.
No?
No, there's another name for that bit.
Adam's Apple.
Yeah, another one.
Declos.
Declos.
No.
Colon?
Sorry?
That's not, is it?
I said that before.
No, that's somewhere else.
I mean, I do talk out of it.
You do?
Collar bone.
Collar.
That's what I was thinking.
of.
It's funny, isn't it?
Because you just said that about that sort of naming body parts and things.
Yeah.
But no one really knows about the fruit thing, do they?
It's been the fruit thing.
That you don't really know many fruits.
I mean, over the years you've learnt now.
Yeah, it's a bit old now, isn't it?
But it's not because no one's heard it.
When you and Danny Dyer were standing on Albert Square.
And I don't even know what fruit you were looking at now.
Like carrot or something
No, it wasn't a carrot
What was it?
I don't know.
We didn't know what it was.
Was it a Swede?
I think it was a Swede.
Which is ironic
because he used to use the word
Swede a lot.
A lot. You like saying it's getting on my Swede.
No, what was it?
We were looking at something.
Was it a Kiwi?
It might have been a key.
It was something like that.
It was a fruit, everybody,
that is so ridiculously recognisable.
And on my life,
Danny and Mark did not know what it was.
And they did not know.
And we had a proper conversation about it.
Unbelievable.
If you hadn't have been there, one of us would have Googled it, probably.
Not these days.
But you're getting better.
Yeah, thank you.
You're getting better.
We should do a Patreon special actually, just a fruit quiz for you.
That would be really good.
And we could do, yeah.
Yeah.
Just 10 minutes.
Be interesting.
Well, you need some, like, how's that going to work on a podcast?
What do you mean?
Well, you need, like, visuals to do, like, audio description.
Yeah, I'll, I'll.
describe them.
Okay.
Long orange thing.
Carrot.
You with a tan?
Long purple thing.
Obesium.
Fully bent.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Classic emoji that's been used over the years.
It's funny, isn't it, how the obergene's been tarnished.
I wouldn't say it's been tarnished.
It's been misused.
It's abused.
Abused emoji.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Couple that with the, what was the other one?
What are the three dogs?
I mean, many a time the pair do, they do come together.
She's terrible.
So if we go about a minute and this.
Three dots?
No, you know what I want.
The splash.
Do you think who made the emojis up thought that the obegene and splash would be used in a sexual manner?
I don't know.
I mean, there'll be plenty of people listening to this that have no idea what we're talking about.
Have you?
I think there should be, there should be, please, goodness,
there should be a decent proportion that have got no idea what we're talking about.
Good for you.
Unfortunately, I don't think that's the case, but yeah, fair enough.
What's your most used emoji?
Well, I can tell you that.
What is it?
Well, it's going to be the diagonal smiley face, I think.
That was on Big Fat Quiz of a year, I believe.
Diagonal smiley face?
Yeah, I will show you.
You know the one
Here we go
Oh
That's that crying laughter face
That's yours
Yeah
What's yours
Mine's the straight one
Yeah
Do you know
Funny enough
Straight laughing face
Do you know what
I used to use that
All the time
The eye rolls up there for me
I don't know
I used the
I used the GIF
Morgana
Eye roll
Yes
You do
I mean what a gift
I mean it really is
that design
for the people in your family to use.
I know.
I mean, it's quite lucky.
It's like a personalised GIF, isn't it?
Yeah, I feel very honoured.
It is brilliant.
Have you spoken to her recently?
I haven't.
No.
But you've been in a bit of a comedy mode lately, haven't you?
Sort of, you know, with your pals,
with your big Netflix release.
Number one.
Might not be today when this podcast comes out,
but currently number one on Netflix, worldwide.
What are you talking about?
about.
Ali Katz,
lovely Ricky's
new show,
new cartoon that's out.
Mm-hmm.
It's funny you mentioned that,
actually.
We had a message
from lovely Pat
which will lead me
on to a bit of a
conversation about Ricky.
Oh, morning, Nat.
Hi, I'm just on my early morning
walk with the dog.
It's Pat from Harlow.
Sorry, I've got some cars
going past me.
A little bit noisy.
I'm just listening
to your last episode
or a couple of minutes in
listening to you and Mark
chatting about the mozzy bites.
And I know you're never going to stop yourself getting bitten
and you've tried everything the world and his wife has suggested.
But there was a segment on this morning one day last week,
probably while you was away,
discussing about how to treat the bites and to stop you scratching them.
I mean, because I get bitten quite bad.
And it was quite a bit of an eye-opener,
some new things that I hadn't tried before.
So hopefully that'll help you.
I'm sorry, I can't tell you what day it was on,
but it was really, it was only off for about 10 minutes.
So it was really worth seeing if you can dig it out.
Anyway, Nat, love the pod. Keep doing what you're doing. And I'm a veteran right from the very beginning. Thank you. Bye.
Now, you see, Pat, thank you for that. That's lovely. But we've got a little issue.
This morning's on every single day for about two and a half hours. I can't sit going through.
How many hours? 12, 15, 20 hours to try and find this 10 minute little bit on my.
mosquito bites. So it's lovely of you to tell me, but I wish you would have known what day it was on.
Have you not got a mate you could tell you, like, from the, you're on the program.
Hey?
You've been on the program. You've got to ask.
Anyway, the reason Pat's message made me think about Alicats and Ricky Jervais is that
Ricky Javis was on this morning, wasn't he? And I showed you it.
This is why you should be in radio. I mean, what a syncinged, clever little link you just did there.
from one thing to the other.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
So how my brain works.
I mean, don't just throw this together, do you?
No.
Yes, that funnily enough, yes, you were.
Sorry, he was on this morning.
It was.
Now, if I remember rightly, the day after you discovered,
sorry, no, on the day of you discovering that,
you, I think you were watching it on your phone in the kitchen?
I was, yeah.
We had some friends over.
Yeah.
went for dinner.
Before they got their cab home,
seemed to be on our telly again.
It did.
We seemed to watch it again.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Do I get the slightest impression
that you're a little bit excited about, too?
Very, very excited about that.
It's very exciting.
It was exciting because he'd never, ever, ever bring me up,
but lovely Josie Gibson did.
Yes.
I actually thought the whole interview was extremely hilarious
because you know that he's,
very uncomfortable being on a show like that.
Whether you like it or not, he is not sat there.
I think I'll tell you about that.
I mean, he'll send you a message right,
and he'll send you a message right now if he listens to this.
No, but he's not sat there thinking, oh, I'm on this morning, this is brilliant.
He actually said at the end, I actually, I know my face doesn't say it, I actually quite
enjoyed being here.
Yeah.
I believe it.
Yeah, well, me too.
You wouldn't say it if he didn't mean it.
But he did say that I was very funny.
He's not going to slate you, is he?
I know.
He wants you to collaborate with his post.
No, he was put on the spot.
Put on the spot.
I mean, people like you.
He's not going to say, oh, I hated her.
He texts me.
I'm winding you up quite the way.
He texted me.
He said, thanks for doing an amazing job.
Yeah.
Because I messaged him because one of our lovely listeners sent me a message saying,
I've watched Alley Cats.
I loved it.
I laughed.
I cried.
And I forwarded it onto him and said, I've had loads of these today.
Thank you for letting me be a small part of it.
And he said, no problem.
Thanks for doing an amazing job.
Has he offered you a part in the next series?
No.
Okay.
You never know.
You need to get back on Chatterbix, by the way.
Yes, I know.
I miss that.
I love to listening to that when you were on it.
You bloody miss it.
Not as much as me.
We'll have a word of them.
I miss the boys, don't I?
Well, you should be honest.
Yeah, you've got a theme tune and everything.
It's going to happen.
Just because you've got your own podcast now.
No, I've read a little chat with them both.
It's all good.
Are you going to be doing that?
Yes, hopefully.
Okay.
Yeah, fingers crossed.
Brilliant.
I hope so.
You could do a really good Patreon, couldn't you?
Your Patreon thing with like David and Joe could join you.
You could do...
I did ask Ricky to come on the pod.
So I'll tell you about that.
Did it?
What did he say?
I'll tell you.
Okay.
Exclusive.
I sent me a really long message.
I said, hi, Ricky, I hope you're well.
I have a podcast like every other moron.
And I wondered if you would come on it.
You can talk about it.
about whatever you want. But I thought it would be nice to say how excited I was to be asked to do
Ali cats and chat about that. My podcast is about the very mundane things and I don't have guests
really, it's just family members but do special episodes and with you it would be in the world.
So I'd ask you stupid things like do you wash your feet in the shower or just let the water run
onto them. I hate lateness so I'd ask if you were a late or early person. Do you ever scan and shop
and put shopping into a bag before paying.
I have a bra that's about 15 years old,
which I wear continuously,
and I don't care because it's comfortable.
What's your most comfortable piece of clothing,
and how old?
Just the silly chat, really.
It'll be over Zoom or whatever suits you,
and could be any time you like.
I know you're getting undated with this shit,
but if you don't ask, Natalie.
Quite a long one.
Did he block you at that point, or did he respond?
He said, hello?
I can't do anything at the moment, but I'm sure I'll be able to do it one day.
Also, I'm mad busy at the moment.
So let me tell you when things quieten down a bit.
Thanks for the offer too, with a phone's up.
I mean, you really sold it to him.
I mean, if he's not going to respond to that.
I think he'd like those questions.
He likes some mundane stuff in life.
Okay.
He does.
Mm-hmm.
So anyway, I think he'll come on one day.
Got no doubt about it.
I think it's pretty tolerant, to me this.
He is tolerant.
He's probably thinking, fucking hell.
I mean...
Why on earth did I get her in that program?
Mm.
Didn't realize she stork me.
Hmm.
You've got a...
You know, in there, you've got a photo with a squiggle on
that's meant to be his signature.
Sophie, um...
Did you not take that with you?
You should have taken that with you
when he did the Ali Katz and said,
is that actually your signature?
I think it is.
I think it is.
Sophie got me that for my birthday.
Autograph of him.
There you go.
Little did I know I'd be working with him.
So, all very nice, isn't it?
Well, I think it's amazing that you managed to, what's the word again?
Manifest.
Manifest that?
Yes.
Which I believe you did.
I did, you.
I think that's a very, very good example of manifestation.
Thank you.
And it is genuinely very impressive.
What a lovely thing to have done.
hopefully you'll
you know
you might get to do another series
be in it again
he might do something else
might need some useless bastard
for an hour
I'm there
I think I mean
in all seriousness
it was really good
thank you
it was
I think there's room for Samantha
to come back
well unfortunately
the other one
I think's gonna happen
no
no spoilers
please people haven't watched it
I think people will work it out.
I think there's fun to be had with the deaf and blind girlfriend of Puk.
Yeah.
It's quite a funny relationship, that.
Very good.
Hmm.
Oh, it's good though.
It's really good.
It didn't get great reviews.
Well, it's doing alright, though.
No, I love the fact that it got shit reviews.
All publicity is good publicity.
He could not give a shit, could he?
And why would he?
That's success.
I'd love to write a comedy.
I know.
What about Joni at breakfast when we went away?
Which made me think about doing a sketch show.
Oh, hang on a minute. I've forgotten already.
No, you haven't.
Oh, this is so good.
That's fantastic, isn't it?
You be the waitress, I'll do Joni.
Hello there, are you ready to order?
Yes, please.
What would you like?
Can I have the sausage sandwich, please?
Yeah, no problem.
But I don't like butter.
That's fine.
So I don't want butter in my sandwich.
Is it possible to change the bread to white bread, not the rye granary bread?
Yes, that's fine.
Okay.
And would it be possible to take out the sausages and replace the sausages with bacon?
That's fine.
So you'd like a bacon sandwich.
Yes.
What was funny is when we had the whole concept of ordering anything.
No, no, no.
I had the co-concept.
You had the clever comedy sandwich.
Of that being a sketch?
Absolutely.
Where every, you know, you flitter between different characters
and this one character is someone who goes to restaurants or goes to breakfast and orders.
Hello there.
Hi, I'd love the spaghetti bolognese.
If you don't mind, I would prefer not to have the mince meat or the sauce.
And I don't particularly like spaghetti.
So if you don't mind, if I could have some penny with some tuna.
That'll be great.
So you're changing it all the time.
Yeah, yeah.
You could change the spaghetti for layers of pasta, couldn't you?
Yeah.
And then you could put the mincemeat in between the layers.
With a creamy sauce.
Creamy sauce on the top, Bechamel sauce sort of thing.
Instead of the spaghetti.
Yeah, that sort of thing.
Very good.
You could really be quite creative of it as well, actually.
You could.
It's a little bit like the...
No, it's not actually.
I've got for a massive tangent there, which I'll save you for trouble.
No, please, please do.
It's good.
It's good.
The Master Chef take off, you know, when they do the voiceover?
Oh, yes, brilliant.
And then it's like a shot of a plate, and it's like ketchup, squirted on it.
Yeah, baked beans.
But you could almost illustrate it a little bit, like that, maybe.
Yeah, it's good.
I don't know.
I just sort of saw that and then really.
Yeah, very good.
But no, it was very amusing.
She did it very genuinely and very funny.
She's a funny little thing.
But I'm sure that she ordered a traditional, I can't speak,
a traditional breakfast of, you know, a full English
and tried to make it a bacon sandwich.
It was a spicy sausage sandwich.
Right.
Was there something else in the...
It's not really easy for me to say with a list.
You're so right.
It was a spicy sausage sandwich.
Didn't you take the spice off the sausage first?
That's what I said.
Then did...
Oh, sorry.
You're funnier.
Not surprisingly.
Didn't we have a lovely time away, though?
Yeah, it's good, actually.
I've got the results, actually, the...
Oh, I'm crazy golf.
Yeah.
That's fantastic.
What I've done here is I've stapled them together.
Yeah.
Along with...
for George in Rye.
Thank you, Card.
Very nice.
Welcome back.
It's a pleasure to have you with us again.
We were last fair 10 years ago when you were pregnant with Joni.
Wishing you have a wonderful stay.
All the best for George in Rye.
It's nice though, isn't it?
Very nice.
Did you notice that the top right corner number was your number at EastEnders?
I did.
I didn't notice that was my number.
I knew every time I opened the room that we were number 38 because that was our room number.
Yes, I hadn't thought of that, but I thought of it, seeing it written down there.
Brilliant.
I was thinking about the fact.
It's the same age as me.
Everyone had a number in EastEnders.
We all had numbers, guys.
And I was number 38,
which got taken over quite quickly, I believe.
Yeah, I can't be who took it.
I don't know.
Might have been Ronnie.
Ronnie Uncona?
I think it might have been.
Happy days.
Could be wrong there.
I have to look up.
But no, we did all right on the crazy...
And Joan is getting very good.
Very good.
We had a massive big drama, didn't we?
on the first round.
Oh, yeah.
It was unbelievable the way it turned.
Incredible.
I mean, if James is listening,
which I'm sure he doesn't,
our brother-in-law,
it was like, honestly, like the Ryder Cup.
The first nine,
Jackie,
Mark's mum, our mum,
the first nine,
she was on fire,
wasn't she?
She was doing twos and threes,
like no tomorrow.
Nine holes in?
Yeah.
Well, actually, it's the 10th hole.
On the 10th hole.
whole.
My mum had 26.
Unbelievable.
You had 32.
I had 28.
Joni had 33.
So in order, it was my mum,
followed by me,
followed by you,
followed by Joni.
Yeah.
And I announced the scores
halfway through.
And my mum...
Fell apart.
She did.
Too much pressure.
And at the same time,
Joni took off.
This is what I mean,
mental mind games with the golf.
You actually got it, didn't you,
after playing that?
You actually said to me,
I kind of get it now,
why golf's exciting.
I did.
That's why it's exciting
because it can take a turn at any point.
Well, it did take a turn
because the person who was in the lead
ended up losing.
Yeah.
Came fourth on that round.
The person who was third
held their third position, no names.
The person who was second, me, held their position,
and the person who was last...
Little Joan.
Came in first.
And we didn't muck about?
So they both swapped positions over those last nine holes.
This is what happens.
It's incredible.
It's great, isn't it?
So she won.
That was that.
Next round...
I have to say, guys,
It is a summer holidays
At least we're getting one out
Just remember that
But at least we're knocking one out
Pardon
People will be interested in this
Yeah yeah thrilled
So second round
Which we played that night
For the record
I won
And then around the next day
Yeah
This was Hastings
Crazy Golf by the way
Best Crazy Golf ever
Just to say
Massive shout out to them
the home of the World Crazy Golf Championships, Hastings Seafront.
Absolutely immaculate, of course.
And then Joanie and I were one point apart the next day.
Oh, it's amazing.
That was good, Dad.
It was good, and I like to do all three.
I'm pleased we've got all three in,
because there you see.
It's nice to get them in.
What's your favourite?
What course out of the three?
Oh, the first one.
Me too?
I like the pirate one, yeah.
No, not pirate.
Not the pirate.
Adventure.
Is it adventure?
Yeah.
Meant to be the hardest course.
Is it?
Yeah.
That's my favourite.
That's my favourite too.
Yeah, that was good.
I've got fond memories of my dad going on that and getting squirted at.
The little figures squirt you, don't they?
I can imagine him tripping over a lot as well?
He did trip over quite a few things.
Yeah.
To be fair.
He likes to trip up, didn't he a little bit.
But when I see the little bunkers and holes and things,
I bet he stumbled over a few of those, knowing your dad.
He did.
What did you think of the ambience?
the second day we were there.
Ambience.
Yeah.
With the tractors cruising up and down the seafront.
I have to say, I wouldn't call it ambiance.
No.
Now I'm all for the farmers.
Yeah.
Having a go.
Okay.
Going up and having a little few petitions, a little march.
Yeah.
I think they really deserve to do that because I think they're very important to us and we need them.
However, the noise of these phones.
fucking tractors trying to play crazy golf going up and down.
Oh my God.
I cannot explain to you.
And it was beeping,
but the beeping and the horns were to baby shark.
Very good at that.
Thank you.
That was really good impression.
Thank you.
But really loud like that screeching up and down, up and down.
I don't see how that's helping farmers.
Oh, honestly.
Not in the middle of Hastings.
It went on and on and on
to the point where it was really starting to get annoying.
It was bad.
It was funny the first time.
It was.
It was putting me off my shots, actually.
It was, it was putting me off,
which is why I think I've failed,
obviously.
Yeah.
You just manifested it the day before when they weren't there.
It was just something you imagined, was it?
Well, I think I could have done better.
It was lovely, though.
What, a lovely break away in where I,
Joanie loves the 2P machines, doesn't she?
She does.
She gets quite into it.
Bit of a worry about.
The pushers.
Pardon?
The pushing machines.
Oh, that's what you meant, yeah.
You know, the...
Yes, two-pence machines.
Yeah, there's a name for them.
What's he used to call them?
A shove to shove...
Shove Aepney?
No.
That's a game, isn't it?
Yeah.
It's pushers.
Interesting, though.
Very sneaky.
Oh, yeah, they are sneaky.
Very sneaky.
She didn't.
too bad, though. She did all right. But if you, if you look at them really carefully, those,
firstly, you've got the shelf, the metal shelf that pushes forward. If you look really carefully,
there's a little sliver of like a silicon rubber down the bottom. So it bends back when it hits
a 2P. It can flick the 2P up so it rides up over another 2P. It's not a solid thing,
which is clever, because they use mirrors so it looks like it's. And the other clever thing,
which I have to admit
I'd not actually
paid attention to before.
But obviously...
I know what you're going to say
because you said it to be
three times on the day.
As for two peas move forward.
There were sides.
And they disappear off into the corner
so that's your profit.
Yeah.
But obviously otherwise
the two peas going in
eventually would come out.
Yeah, not all of them do.
They side love.
They go off into the pot.
Very sneaky.
Like road works.
Very sneaky.
So that's the profit mod.
But I enjoyed the penny machines.
Oh, that I love...
In the rhyme you do.
I love all the old penny machines.
They're great.
That was good.
Because you used to have some of those in Covent Garden
I'm not sure if they're still there, they may be.
Where about?
There was a, in the old market, in the...
How about the old?
You know, a bit in the middle.
We talked about like in 1910, 905.
When I was younger.
Oh, right.
There used to be like a fortune teller one
and a little scary one.
Oh, right.
Yeah.
Don't put that.
But yeah, I really like those
and that reminds me of that steam affair we went to
that I really enjoyed
because that had those machines in it.
one-penny machines.
But I also like it.
I do like a slot machine.
I have to say.
Like a one-arm bandit kind of,
hmm.
They were better when you used to pull the lever,
no.
Got two of those,
mom's got two of them.
She's got a pink one,
really pull the lever on,
and like a silver one
in the garage.
Quite nice to have one of those.
Yeah, along with the seven-pin board machines
and,
no,
but the one-on-banded things
really fun.
They are nice, aren't they?
Nice thing to have.
They are nice.
Yeah, my dad used to restore them.
We've got a poker machine as well.
Have you?
How does that work?
It's more like a fruit machine, so it's a light-up one.
I believe it was illegal or something.
There was some issue with it,
some reason it was a percentage payout or some legislation thing.
Anyway, it doesn't know that it matter,
but he didn't make any money out of it.
It was in the garage,
but it was like a poker machine.
Oh, very good.
Yeah, good fun now, aren't they?
They are good fun, but gamble responsibility, folks, so quickly.
With your pennies.
But if you're doing a pound a go.
I mean, you and I sat in that part of the casino was a joke.
We didn't have a clue.
I told earlier about it.
You should have phoned me.
I mean, not a clue.
I grew up for 20 years getting taken around shops with a dad repairing those things.
Yeah, that's crazy that you don't know.
not a clue how they work.
I have no idea.
Which I think is a really good thing.
I know, but they are fun.
Well, yeah.
It's just, yeah, hey-ho.
It was funny.
You're sitting there with your little pot of, yeah,
that's a tenor gone.
It's like brilliant.
Doesn't take long, does it?
God.
But what do you think?
So we were in an arcade.
Yeah.
And Joni really enjoyed it.
Yes.
I think we were getting like a five as worth of two peas.
Oh, not even that.
I think it was three pounds worth.
So it's not mad.
We haven't gone mad.
No, no.
And that actually genuinely lasted quite a long time.
Yes.
Those two peas.
Yeah.
That was like an hour.
Yeah.
Playing the machines at least.
And each gove is like, you know,
my mum was putting down a two P.
Oh, no, it was good.
Really cute.
So nothing wrong without I get it.
But it does a little bit of you not think,
I mean, I understand.
We all know what we're doing there.
But I just feel that there's this, you could very easily get carried away.
The thing about the tickets, you know, you sort of playing.
The first time we ever went in there, I remember us being in there
and getting loads of tickets playing a game, thinking we've done,
blime it, we've done really well.
I know, you get about 1,900 tickets and you can buy a pen.
I know.
And I just think that's really dodgy.
It is what it is.
It's out of order.
It's just a bit of fun, isn't it?
It is a bit of fun and it is fun.
I think as long as you go into those places and think, right, that's what I have.
Yes.
And I'm happy to lose that tonight for a night out.
I'm happy to lose that amount.
And I'm not going to be annoyed about it.
Then it's fine.
Be that a pound, £3, £10, £100, £100, £1.
Because I'm going in there and I'm having an evening.
Well, you're never going to go in there and come out on top.
I mean, we're not talking about Monte Carlo or Las Vegas, are we?
But the best thing you could ever come out with is like a hair dryer.
There was a steamer, iron.
I saw a steamer in there.
I think that was about 7,000 tickets.
It was like a team you.
7,000 tickets.
You've probably got to spend something like 500 quid to get that.
No.
You have.
Probably 50 quid, 100.
You're never ever going to come out on top, are you?
You're never ever going to go and spend a pound.
I've got, blind me, I've got the steam iron.
It's not going to happen.
You say that.
No chance.
You've got the one with the keys with the boys.
No. You've got more chance of actually.
going like to a casino
and winning on
roulette or something. Yeah, it's true.
You're never going to go in one of those arcades
and come out and think, oh, that's great. I don't know what I'm right.
It's quite funny in there as well, isn't it?
Just a funny
funny, funny atmosphere.
Is it? Just, um,
I don't know, I just find it.
I don't know. Funny.
No, no, please. I don't know.
No, I can't really explain it.
Funny atmosphere.
I don't upset anyone. It's just a bit rough around
edges, I'd say.
I don't have no idea what you're talking about.
Whenever you go into those sort of arcades during the day with kids.
You have a massive mix of people.
Prams.
It's like anything.
You have a mix of people.
Fair enough.
I've got to tell you a story because I popped into M&S to get my euros.
Mm-hmm.
Have you got some euros lately from anywhere?
I've never done it.
I'll just get them out when I'm over there.
I just go to the cash point and get them out.
I felt like I was being questioned.
Like I was a criminal.
Oh, you would have been.
I got my passport out and said, but I wanted or whatever.
And brilliant, lovely lady.
Yeah.
She said, okay, right, now I'm going to ask you a couple of questions.
I felt like I was on the bill.
And I said, okay, and she said, may I ask where you got these funds from?
I started acting all guilty.
I said, for my, my personal account, my money, my salary,
I started stuttering and everything.
I'd be feeling really nervous.
And she said, okay.
And may I ask what you will be using them for?
I said, well, I'm going on a holiday.
Recreational things.
Not recreational, sort of taxis and, you know, excursions,
excursions, things like that.
She was like, okay.
But it really made me nervous.
Yeah.
A bit like when you walk through duty-free,
with like declare or nothing to declare,
and you walk through and you sort of pick everyone's looking at you,
and you sort of.
And you think, yes, I've got the fags through for Brian.
Yeah.
The legal amount.
That is true.
That's what I mean.
Yeah.
You've always got that sort of...
We forgot Brian's fags last holiday.
We didn't.
It's more money buying and there than it was.
Oh, really?
Yeah, there's no saving where we were.
Oh, fair enough.
I don't like to forget him, you know.
No, but there was a saving when we were coming back from Dubai, blimey.
But no, not when we were coming back from where we were last.
Fair enough.
Not only did we go away for a couple of days,
which was lovely.
It felt like a week's break, wasn't it?
Really nice to go away.
Yeah, we had a little mini break before that, though.
Mine, we've been very, very fortunate.
I've spoken about all this last week with Linda, so I won't bore it.
Talk about the tent.
Oh, the tent was fun.
That was good, wasn't it?
Yes.
It's a lovely bell tent, which we got an absolute bargaining.
I think we've spoken about all this before,
but the thing is, guys, right?
It's lovely having Mark
because I'm telling you now
I would never put that tent up on my own
You could put that tent up on your own
and take it down
You could
Absolutely not
You could
I'm not saying I couldn't
I could not be bothered
I have absolutely zero interest in doing so
But you doing it
It's brilliant
It's such a nice
We've got double blow-up beds in there
Three double blow-up beds
Soft sheets
We bring all the do-vents
out from inside.
We locked the door at night.
We've got fairy lights in there
and it actually feels like you're away.
It's really cool.
It is good.
And it was really,
well,
it literally was really cool.
It was lovely in there.
It was so nice in there of an evening.
It's a coldest evening I've had for a long time.
Yeah.
It's nice.
Lovely thing to do.
Actually needed to be under my covers
to keep warm at one point.
I woke up in the middle of the night
and I thought, wow,
it's cold outside.
Yeah, it was really nice.
It's made a nice change
to the weather with Adelaide.
Lovely.
My God, now I can't believe it.
I'm in Palmer and I'm having my first ever
Maxibon Mini Classic.
And I'm very excited and I'll let you know if it's nice.
Oh my God.
I'm eating it now and it's lovely.
It's reminding me.
Love a chalk ice.
That is exactly what it reminds me of.
Oh, it's really nice.
Got nuts in it as well.
Absolutely.
Why do they do these in the UK?
That make you jealous?
That's like she'd have a nice time
That was Jess
Yeah
With her first Maxibon
Yeah
I haven't had one for a long time
Yet I have been abroad
That's the thing that's a little bit odd there
We had a lovely message here
And I'm so sorry
I haven't got the name
But it says
I've listened since the beginning
And the whole time
I've been like
What the fuck is a Maxibon
Never Googling it
Because well I've always forgotten
Went on holiday last week
And I bloody found them
yummy would have again.
Oh, well, there you go.
So that's nice, isn't it?
Then my favourite Maxibon message this time round
was from our daughter,
who went to Italy with Elia.
Hello, it's your daughter here.
Look what I've found in Italy
with pictures of Maxibonds.
Wow.
But she sent it to the Life with Nat number,
07-8-201919.
Nice.
Which I thought was a bit of effort
had gone in there.
Oh, sounds it, yeah.
I mean, it's nice of her to, well, I suppose she couldn't have brought it back because she'd have one and worked.
It's not going to work, darling, is it?
No.
We had a message here from Lottie, just so you know.
Hey, Mark, what is a cornetto go?
Appears to be a Maxibon equivalent.
What's your thoughts from this pick, and have you tried one?
Right.
Found in the Netherlands.
Speak soon.
Lottie.
Cornetto go.
Cornetto go.
Oh, that looks good.
Now that, no, that's not like a Maxibon.
That, obviously, is a copy of the Oreo ice cream.
Ah.
But that is exceptional.
Because the Oreo ice cream and that Cornetto go is like the biscuit part of the Maxi Bon.
Right.
Which is lovely to say.
And can I say something, I thought this the other day and I've missed a boat.
Dawn.
And actually, I've not, I didn't have an ice cream.
we went to Hastings.
No, you didn't.
I haven't had one ice cream.
No, you didn't.
In fact, I've not had an ice cream.
How long?
I did have an ice cream.
Without it.
You had one.
We had three of us had it.
Oh, we shared one over dinner.
It was something really unusual.
I had olive oil on it.
It was delicious.
It was really nice.
What was the ice cream?
No, I forgot what it was.
Oh, dear.
Was it chocolate?
No.
It wasn't because you are...
No, it was olive ice cream.
It was olives, with olive oil on?
Yes, olive ice cream.
Oh.
It was really good.
See, that's my sort of thing
because it's savoury.
Do you know what I mean?
That really was lovely.
But, yeah, so we did have a little bit of ice cream,
but no, I didn't have an ice cream out of there.
But, no, what I was going to say was,
I haven't really been there, but I think it was Liddle, did them.
They did a cookie, it was cookies and cream.
Yeah, she said, yeah.
And there was, like, massive cookies.
with a massive slab of ice cream between the cookies.
Yeah, you like those, didn't you?
What is, the bit about it is anyone can get two cookies and a slap.
No, we can do that.
You can make it.
But what's great about that...
We haven't done the bourbon thing yet, which is meant to be good.
What's great about it, though, is the ice cream ever so slightly moistened for cookie.
Yeah, and that for me is disgusting.
Oh, that's the best.
It's so good.
For me, that's the worst bit.
It's so good.
So sweet.
It's so good.
I grew up dunking bourbons in my dad's team.
No, I like that.
But not in an ice cream, thank you.
Oh, it's lovely.
I want a crisp.
I want something crisp.
Something that I can crunch.
No.
That's right.
I don't like ice cream anyway, so it's irrelevant.
Well, I'm giving it up anyway, so they could reinstate the maxibon, and I don't know if I'd eat one.
Hi, Nat.
Just listening to your pod where you and Mark were talking about packing,
and he was talking about having an extra set of cables, etc., ready to go, so you
didn't have to maybe forget the one you have plugged in from the night before.
I have a carry-on size luggage that I have already pre-packed.
It has all my cables, it has my extra set of straighteners,
because my hair's absolutely horrible if I don't straighten it.
Clean set of underwear, socks, bra,
a pair of yoga pants and a T-shirt,
and all, you know, travel size, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel,
all that kind of stuff.
wet wipes just in case.
And I have that all packed and ready to go.
The reason being is because I have two children, two daughters that live in different states.
And I always had that panic about if they pulled to say that they needed me,
I want to be able to just grab and run and get on a flight or on the road,
you know, pending whichever I can do.
And so I literally always have this.
packed and ready to go.
And it doesn't work out to be too expensive.
You know, I have yoga pants that I would not normally,
I mean, I wouldn't miss it out of my clothing pile.
It doesn't hurt to, you know, have an extra set of underwear packed away.
And my straighteners are my old set.
So I bought a new set, put the old set in.
So, you know, stuff that's pretty cheap to buy.
I don't wear makeup, so that that's quite easy.
But also, my husband,
has in his vehicle an extra set of underwear for us each and a toothbrush. So if we go somewhere
for the day and we don't make it home, whether there's been an accident road to close, we have
to turn around, or we just decide we're going to stay out for the night, then we do have
an extra set of clean underwear and a toothbrush to use. So he's very smart there. We're not
smart enough that I don't have been in my car though. Anywho, just so I'd let you know, love
the pod. Love listening to you and
my chat. Sounds like I'm actually sat with you
and I'm actually sorry
that this one off for a little bit longer. Maybe speed it up.
I was going to say, that was quite a long message.
I know, but I really like the sound of her voice.
And she also said this.
Came back to say goodbye. How rude of me.
It's Rhonda. Used to be Bambri, now in Maine, USA.
Bye.
That lovely.
Wow.
Old Rhonda.
Maine. How cool is that?
So cool.
I've just got an image now of her
and a husband in a fresh pair of underwear
with a toothbrush in their mouth.
Like, you know, just cropping their teeth.
Like, Colgate Act.
This really made me laugh.
Yeah, what I thought of, a lot of pairings of those things.
It's very good, that.
Very, very organised.
I don't have anything in the car that's worth anything.
A kitchen roll.
An apple core, maybe, underneath her.
A couple of old mascara dried up that Eliza's left in there.
Your car is absolutely disgusting.
Yeah, it's not great.
No, no, I have to say I do, I get it valet now quite a lot.
Do you know, I found in mine the other day,
a McDonald's chip
Now
When was the last time
You had one of those in there
Well
This is what I was going to say to you
I think it was about three years ago
No I don't think it was that long time ago
But the chip
Look perfectly preserved
It was funny that isn't it
They did that didn't they
Yeah
I think they last for years
They put them in a museum
Didn't they?
They did
They put them under glass
And it was 20 years or something
It was like a perfect
fucking McDonald's meal
Really
Wasn't what's in them
It was funny
Love a McDonald's, though.
Oh, no.
Nothing better than eating a McDonald's in the car.
I did that before coming to see you at not going out.
That was my last McDonald's.
Before coming to see me?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
And I had a McDonald's, and I sat in the car park, and I ate my McDonald's,
and then I walked to meet you.
We had a McDonald's after Strictly, didn't we?
We did.
At about 4 o'clock in the morning or something.
It wasn't 4 o'clock in the morning.
Whenever it was.
We went to, oh, yeah.
We did, do.
But no, Maine USA.
From Banbury.
Near Oxford, that is, isn't it?
Yeah, yeah.
Near Bista.
Not a bad part of the world.
I was thinking, you know, you forgot,
you had a special guest you meant to phone up on this episode.
We've not done it.
Who was it?
Greg James.
He said, he sent the message under the video,
and he said, get me on next time, and I'll talk to you about this.
We'll do that soon.
Unfortunately, I do know that he's been through.
some trauma lately.
Ah.
Because his wonderful dog passed away.
Oh.
And I know that he and Bella are out of it for a little while, which is fair enough.
Okay.
So I'm sure we can do that.
And I do send all my love and wishes to them.
Yeah, Barney.
Barney's passed.
Oh.
How do you know that?
Because it's on Instagram and I follow Greg, like a hawk.
What should do?
Anyway, on that note.
Yeah.
We better go.
Yeah, lovely.
Lovely to speak to everybody.
I hope you're all super well.
Hope you're enjoying your summer, as I always say.
