Hello everyone, just a very quick message from producer Emma.
The episode, we had to use the backup sadly for this,
so the sound quality isn't as good as it usually is,
but we still have a lovely time so enjoy hello and welcome to life with nat joined by emma today for another
chilled out little bit of correspondence a little bit of a catch-up.
How are you, Emma?
I'm all right, all right. Yeah, lots going on as always, but...
I know, I've got bundles going on actually this week.
Stuff I've done really in the past and it all seems to have sort of come out at the same time.
I did a lovely episode of Off Menu, which came out, which seems to have gone down well.
Did you pop a Dom's or did you bread? What did you go with? I did a lovely episode of Off Menu, which came out, which seems to have gone down well.
Did you pop a Dom's or did you bread?
What did you go with?
I actually went for arancini balls, which I decided to call arangini balls.
And then we got into a thing about arangini balls.
Listen, I know how to say arancini.
Yeah.
Auntie Lynn is Italian.
Do you know what I mean?
Yeah.
But on the morning, I just said, I like an arangini ball.
And unfortunately, it backfired.
And we were talking, you know, a genie, just a wisp.
It hasn't really got a genitalia.
No genitalia, no.
So anyway, I was talking.
It was lovely.
I invited James Acaster to come to my cupboard and live in there so I could knock and get him out.
Me and Ed decided that we might as well be brother and sister
because we like all the same things, same restaurants everything so it was lovely it was a nice discovery oh
little teaser for the uh episode thought i'd touch on something that no one's really spoken
about of late oh yeah hence my t-shirt oasis is that a drink that's the little sort of fruity
berry drink isn't it it is uh it's also the name of a 90s band oh uh they've been in the
news a little bit lately are they hmm got any other hits do you know what would i know one with
a guitar sort of early 90s wonderwall oh wonderful is that like wonder bra rhymes with wonderful
wonderful anyway yeah i'm sure they're great.
Anyway, I didn't get a ticket.
Oh, mate.
There's loads of people who didn't get a ticket.
Yeah, I mean, it's a lot.
Infinite.
But let me tell you, it's very annoying when your whole childhood,
year eight at school, was carrying a CD player around,
listening to What's the Story, Morning Glory on a loop.
I have all of the B, Morning Glory on a loop.
I have all of the B-sides on a beautiful vinyl album
that Mark bought me for my birthday.
And this T-shirt was not purchased two weeks ago.
No.
Why is everyone an Oasis fan now?
Why does this happen?
Yeah.
It's tricky, isn't it?
I mean, I clearly know they're still popular because that's why
they put on the massive gigs but i think even they underestimated quite how i think so oh
near the time i'll i'll scrimp i'll find a ticket i'll do it i'll blow it fine i have got
liam gallagher's tambourine in the loft. Oh, then turn up beforehand and be like, well, he needs his tambourine back.
I'm here with the band.
That's what I thought.
I'd try.
There's not many people who have been on the sewing bee
and made a Liam Gallagher coat.
No, I can only think of one.
So I've had a lot of people on Instagram asking me,
did you get a ticket now?
You should be going because of the sewing bee, whatever.
So listen, if anybody is listening, who knows Noel or Liam or any part of the band,
anyone, I am a really true fan.
And if you could just get in touch with me, that would be really helpful.
Yeah.
Sort me out, please.
I've had some lovely correspondence darling oh yeah oh it's been
lovely popping off on the uh what's that it has been popping off have a little listen to this
this is really nice i'm just about to catch up with a couple of your episodes been a busy busy
week last week they're quite pleased to have two banked it does anyone else feel like sick about
going back to school this week it's really weird i just saw
it's a bit like the sunday night that's life music or whatever it was i can't remember the music you
said you felt sick for i feel a bit sick this week about going back to school and it's ridiculous
now because my daughters are 30 and 26 so clearly they're not going back to school i live near a
school maybe it's that i don't know but i just think maybe it's the thought of all the new little
people going into school
and some not having as easy time as the others and some loving it and some coming out in tears, which I often see.
But, you know, I just wondered if it was just me.
Why at the age of 55, 54, am I worrying about going back to school?
Good question, eh?
Well, I'll tell you something, Ali, what I think.
Obviously, this all happened last week.
I actually was doing a job, Em.
Can't talk about it yet.
It always falls on the worst day possible,
but it was a really nice thing to do.
And I missed the girls' first day back.
Mark was at home.
He sent me lovely pictures of them by the door
with their uniforms on.
Do you know what I mean?
Got to do it.
And a little bit of me, I just thought, do you know what?
I don't feel bad, actually, because we've got to go to work.
You can't not go to work because they're going back to school.
They go back to school after every holiday.
I think the reason Ali felt the way she did,
I think that it's a number of things, right?
I think it is the passing of time it's the
sea changing the summer being over that sort of light nights long days that sort of you know
that's coming to an end once school comes back I personally don't feel it's always about the
emotion of the kids going back to school I I think it's everything else around that.
Do you know what I mean?
Yeah, is it?
Has she even got kids or is she just saying that it's just in the air?
It's just that ether?
Yeah, she's got much older kids.
They're not at school anymore.
Yeah, so it's just that, it's that weird.
That sort of nostalgia, it's that feeling. It's that feeling of sort of, you know, moving into a new season.
And I don't think, I don't think we should
feel upset when the kids go back to school they've had six weeks right it's a long time
they're ready to go back why you'd be crying because they're like oh my god they go they're
they're gonna have six hours with their friends and they're gonna be using their brains
it's a good thing isn't it oh definitely but it it's a change of
pace for you at home again change of pace and it is the kids growing up which I talk about often
you know it's another year it's a new year it's another stage isn't it see what this one brings
but it's exciting we've got to grab this sort of stuff with both hands and you've got to turn it
on his head instead of feeling upset look back God, I was really grateful for a lovely summer.
I'm so excited for them.
Let's hope they have a really positive, lovely year with nice friends and they learn loads of stuff.
So again, I just think we've just got to be positive about it all.
Yeah, look on the bright, exciting side of it.
But yeah, I do get the anxiety in the air the air isn't there all the change and all the
it does feel weirdly like a new year I always feel like the school year is actually more important
more important than the actual new year yeah it was shit on the first of January apart from the
fact it was my lovely dad's birthday I really really couldn't care less about New Year. Never been a New Year's fan.
You're on Christmas though, aren't you?
Massive Christmas head.
So when it gets to January, I'm just depressed.
Yeah.
But yeah.
We had a lot of skirt problems last week.
Oh yeah.
Eliza's new skirt, you know, for school.
Oh, the length. length yeah it's too long
i'm gonna do this i said if you roll it up you look like a moron because it's pleated
ah it looks ridiculous it comes it sort of sticks out then like a ridiculous tutu like an old school
victorian bustle yeah like a bustle do you know I wore a bustle in my first professional acting job.
I did.
You won't believe it, but I worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company on a play called The Beggar's Opera by John Gay in the Barbican Theatre.
And I was eight.
I was eight.
I was a little urchin and I had Victorian clothes on
and I always wore a bustle and I felt really cool. Oh, a little urchin and I had Victorian clothes on and I always wore a bustle and I felt really cool.
Oh, a little urchin with a little bustle on.
Oh, I loved it.
I'll have to get you a picture.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I've got a picture with the mayor and the mayoress
on kind of a press night or something.
I'll find it.
I'll find it.
My dad's got it somewhere, bless him.
It'll be in a cupboard, in a drawer somewhere. I'll dig it out'll find it my dad's got it somewhere bless him it'll be in a cupboard in a drawer somewhere
I'll dig it out
aww
yeah
cute tie
little bustle
but yeah
uniform politics
is always
we always had to
make the tie
shorter than
they would allow
and then they
they told us off
so we made them
really long
to get around
the rules
if you're not
allowed them short
well then we're gonna have them I had none of this problem no never wore a school uniform
oh really both schools wow had over primary Islington yeah beautiful little primary school
and then Islington Green we never had a uniform and you know what looking back I honestly mean this I don't feel
that I ever worried about what I was going to wear for school
that's a bit of a tomboy anyway I'd like an arsenal puffer jacket on or
naff naff track suit and your bustle I'm a bustle at the back. But yeah, no, the kind of uniform thing.
But I think now,
in this day and age,
it would be an absolute nightmare
to not have a uniform
because they're all so...
Well, they all come out.
When they're not in uniform now,
these girls of kind of
secondary school ages,
they all look exactly the same.
Competitively kind of same brands. Yeah same brands yeah yeah yeah but it's not really
i don't think it's for competitive reasons it's one person chooses what to wear so for instance
the north face puffer coat right now going back go back four years north face puffer coats were
on television sets like mark's always had a north face do you know what I mean it's the crew coat utility suddenly I don't know who it was
but some 11 year old decided to put one on
every single child
had an all face puffer coat
and it's still going
but they've had it right off the face
that it's now cool for the kids
yeah it's weird like
was it like Carhartt
in America just suddenly became did it sort of
so massive even though it was like just some lumberjack kind of worker stuff we need ro-ro
really for the old um hypebeast monster what is it monster i can't remember but yeah it is really
odd and the other one was um nike pro leggings or shorts so they've all got the same leggings so you see i'm wondering
about with white air force trainers nike pro leggings and a north face coat and they all look
exactly the same and out of school uniform yeah it's very boring yeah but they'll find it well
you can see why schools do sort of say well at least a uniform takes that away because
you know there'll be loads of kids that wouldn't be able to afford any of that or yeah but yeah
then you get into the sort of knockoff that's why Burberry knockoffs ended up being huge because
people wanted that and they wanted to be part of the trend but they couldn't afford it so they just
got you see that a lot now see I've always interestingly with fashion and stuff I can go to I'll go to Tesco's and buy clothes I'll go to
Sainsbury's clothes for me I don't mind if I see something I like I could not care less I'll just
go and buy it doesn't matter I'm not a snob I'll go wherever Marks is being a favorite obviously
River Island you know high street stuff whatever Oasis merch
and
always
always
absolutely gutted
because I was a member of
Oasis fan club
so I used to get the magazines
and then I used
all the t-shirts
all the dog tags
and they all went
told you
mum and dad
they didn't
oh they didn't keep any of it
they didn't save anything I't keep any of it save anything
i did all everything anyway there you go really yeah so yeah so i'll go anywhere right and buy
clothes but in terms of i do like a handbag oh yeah but a really nice one and they are ridiculously
expensive but what i was going to say about the knockoff thing is now,
you really, some of these knockoffs, Em.
Yeah, really good.
But I still feel there's something about going into a posh shop.
Oh, yeah.
It's that pretty woman thing, isn't it?
You go in and usually my hair ain't all done and, you know,
I don't look a million dollars let's say but i wander in and it's really quite nice to go oh yeah can i have a little
look at that louis vuitton bow please and you get a little little glass of champagne sometimes
and it's sort of the experience it's a bit wanky to be honest but um i'm a sucker for it well
it does it for you i certainly don't
do it all the time yeah oh yeah once a week max i don't know i'm not really into any of it so i've
never got a designer handbag or any of you know i've not got any of that not none of the designer
shoes or anything no yeah i do like a bit of a sucker for a shoe or a bag another designer trainer
oh yeah no none of that either I just I think my bank balance dictates it more than the sort of
choice but well yeah but also it's it's it's sensible yeah I think it's a good thing but
if you're a bit of a sucker for it and you like a little bit of it then I'm fortunate you know
I could have probably had my bathroom done if I counted up the money I'd spent from, you know, now 20 years back.
I'd probably have money in account now to do up my bathroom that I want to do.
Yeah.
Which is ridiculous.
But who needs bathrooms when you've got lovely bags, eh?
Yeah, it's true.
Bath works, sort of.
Yeah.
I don't know.
It's all right.
Tin can in the garden sorted yeah it's just the refurbishing thing I mean sort of sort of niggling away at me now yeah you want
to do it's just my upstairs and stuff obviously I've got to sort out the lights as well in the
lounge which I've touched on but it's just the upstairs I've not really touched at all and I
would love you know my nice bathrooms and that I think
it's because Elle's Bells is um she's just doing all of her bathrooms up she's on nesting it looks
really lovely and it's all new stuff and you go oh I'd love to do that soon so yeah I just uh need
to stop by and design the trainers really and save some money that's it saved yourself so much money
without the Oasis tickets that's's true. That's true.
I'm just going to turn up.
It'll be all right.
Got his tambourine.
Got to come in.
Yeah.
I've got no proof of it.
It is just sort of a black tambourine that he used to, you know, it's not signs.
It's not anything.
But I was going to put it in a little box frame and get a picture of Wembley with it.
You know what I mean?
Do something.
Yeah, yeah.
That's nice.
So I'll do that.
I was going to also maybe get Sonia's trumpet and do the same with that.
Oh, lovely.
I've got the original in the loft.
A few photos from the years.
Yeah.
The old famous bridesmaid one, you know, with the peach dress.
Yeah.
Yeah, lovely.
I had a couple of people, just so you know, wish you a very happy birthday.
Oh, thank you.
Also, along with a picture of the Vionetta birthday cake that they said, obviously, was,
I need to get that.
Yeah, you know, I think you should.
£1.99 in Asda.
So that was not too bad.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I've sort of delayed any, I didn't really do anything proper for my birthday.
I'm still looking like I'm moving house eventually.
Yeah.
The flats, it's been a nightmare, slow and steady, but we're getting there.
Poised to be moving.
When that's on your head, you don't want to do much else, do you?
You're just ready to start packing and, you know, the excitement of all that.
I've sort of partway through packing, then you're on, yeah,
when you've got sort of halfway and it all stalls and you're like you lose all the momentum and excitement and
like now it's all just icky and like then but it still may then turn around in like a week or two
yeah yeah and then just suddenly all be go go go go yeah there is nothing more stressful
nothing more stressful than buying a house oh yeah, yeah. It's always at the top of the list.
I'll tell you a quick story.
When I moved, we were in Broxbourne and we bought this.
Mark was away.
I was at EastEnders in probably one of the most busiest periods and I had dad living with me and I single-handedly packed my house on my own after coming home from work of an evening single hand when I look back
I do not know how I did it how long did it take to unpack was it sort of manic put everything just
in crazy boxes yeah the unpacking
was fantastic no because everybody was here and everyone helped and oh good you know every box
was away after a day oh lush yeah yeah yeah yeah so that wasn't too bad but yeah no it is very very
stressful moving house but it'll be the best thing you've ever done once you're in there
and you're a homeowner with those keys fingers crossed yeah it's just it's all contracts annoying nonsense of course of course i've got a
message here from cat it says hi nat it's cat what a poet not really cat i don't think we can
call it poetry when you just have a three-letter word that rhymes with another one but hey ho
absolutely love the pod you have spoken about how you don't give a fuck about what people think of
you which i think is amazing i just wondered where that comes from have you always not cared
i just wondered if you had any tips for people that do struggle with this i'm so glad you and
your family got to go on holiday oh that's lovely thank you but I really thought that was a good question and genuinely I don't know where that comes from in me but I have never worried about other people
and what they think of me I wonder if it's from acting because you've always sort of being someone
else and you're on I would say no because I think some of the most insecure people
are actors and actresses, I would say.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I'm sure it ranges like all the way all the time.
But yeah, I was just wondering if it's because you get to play different things.
I really think it's in your makeup.
Yeah.
I think it's in the genetics of who you are.
I'm just not interested.
It's not my business what people think. I wish I was more like that I really do struggle with criticism and
it's a rejection sensitivity yeah it's very tricky well maybe it's because I have been very
fortunate as well I've been very fortunate throughout my life you have to think you know
getting a job at 10 yeah I've never had to sort of think about what I want to be or
what I want to do I sort of just carried on doing that and then you know I've never had to sort of
go for loads of job interviews or yeah I haven't really had a lot of rejection in my life yeah the
security of having that sorted for so long and sort of knowing where you are
and knowing what you're doing anyway,
not sort of having to put yourself out there
in the same way, at least.
Yeah, I think it's interesting though.
Really interesting.
It's really fascinating.
Like, you know, if you can bottle any of it,
I'm sure plenty of us will pay for a bit of the...
I'll tell you something though
I had a terrible night's sleep last night you're not very well are you no do you know something
now I'm doing this I feel like I'm coming alive sometimes you need to get on and do something
and it's brilliant this because it is at home and I'm still resting but just chatting to you and
you know even though it's a very very hard ar still resting, but just chatting to you. And, you know, even though it's a very, very hard, arduous job, of course.
Chatting to me, yeah.
No, I mean, it's hard.
Awful.
Not awful, just difficult.
As far as we've just joked about sort of taking things personally.
Crisis alert.
No, yeah, there we go.
But no, I felt a bit, it always happens to me, Emma.
I work like a dog and I go and there we go. But no, I felt a bit, it always happens to me, Emma.
I work like a dog and I go and go and go.
And my brain knows if I've got a couple of days where I'm not doing much,
brain and body, because I just always get a little bit poorly.
So I was just a bit sweaty, a bit achy, shivery.
But Mark was on a night shoot last night and the night before. And he got in, I think he got into bed about 1.30 in the morning.
And bless him, I woke up to take the kids to school this morning.
And I woke up at seven and I just, I said, I really don't feel great.
And bless him, he did all the school runs.
He got up and he's got another night shoot tonight, really, really late.
So a big thank you to Mark.
He's a bit of a hero today.
Oh, good old Mark. But I'm just going to today oh good old man but i'm just gonna have a
quiet one i'm just gonna have a potter around while the kids are at school yeah and uh sometimes
you're it is your body telling you to have a little slow down i get exactly the same thing
but yeah immune system everything just rallies through rallies through and then i'll start to
feel ill and then i'll check my calendar and go what am I gonna have to rearrange here and it will be the only few days
that I've got empty yeah and it will know before I do that there's space definitely it's like
teachers teachers always say to me that I meet they're ill and as soon as our holidays yeah as
soon as I want a holiday. As soon as you go,
oh, I just need a chilled day off.
And you're like,
I am sneezing and unwell.
Oh, like everything's falling apart now.
It happened to Mark.
He was really, really busy
and he had about three or four days off
and he wanted to do some nice stuff for himself
and he was laid up.
So yeah, our bodies are clever.
Brains and bodies are very, very clever.
Yeah.
I'm just going to have a little bit of a chilled one today.
I had a lovely message.
Listen to this.
Hi, Nat.
For the first time ever today, I use my shopping bag as a basket.
I had my two-year-old with me in a pushchair as she had fallen asleep,
so I put the shopping under the pushchair.
But when I went out of room, I started to use my bag.
Question for the poddies, do you think it's
okay to put your shopping under a push chair instead of a basket or is it the same as putting
it in the shopping bag? The staff were looking at me like a criminal at the self-checkout,
they kept on looking into the bag. Now this is extremely interesting, thank you for bringing this up right I am completely against putting
the shopping into a bag but when I think back to when I had a push chair I always put shopping
under the push chair ah always see I would say it's the same I would say it's again because
it's that stereotype of there's been so many sitcoms and stuff where it will be that
you know that's how people are stealing things putting it under the push chair and not just
walking out are you saying that i stole when the kids were small um i'm just letting you
say that yourself is that what you're saying no stealing went on no no stealing went on however when you're pushing a push chair and both your arms are on
that very difficult to have a basket when you've got a sleeping child yeah so I think putting it
underneath is acceptable it's also open it's visible mostly yeah it's not in a bag maybe I'm
just an absolute hypocrite yeah because i mean that it's sort of
still a little bit sort of hidden away and shielded when you've got other bits and pieces
in it but yeah like definitely the logistics of trying to carry multiple things or you know
move the child into the trolley a trolley it's an absolute nightmare if they're asleep and you
want to do your shopping in peace they've got to go in a push chair you're not going to start
waking up to sit in the front of it you just don't do that otherwise you're having to put the push chair in the trolley as well like
it's just chaos yeah it's ridiculous yeah that's the weird balance of like i don't see as much of
a leap cognitively between having it under the push chair versus in your own bag fine okay i've
since our conversation regarding the bag i have done it a couple of times now, by the way.
Oh, have you? You're a convert.
Yeah, I've done it a couple of times when I only need a few bits. I do understand it a little bit more now.
But I wouldn't do kind of two massive bags full on shark walking around with it.
I had a message from Ro in Worcester who said, I'm listening to the Off Menu podcast. I think we need a whole Life With Nat podcast based around weird food combinations after your bacon roll ketchup mayo
combo. Not that I won't try it as soon as I can. Thank you, Ro. I think that's a really good
episode that I'd like to get in. So can everybody please message me on 07788 201919.
A voice note is wonderful because I love to hear your voices.
If not on message, weird food combos.
Now, yeah, my weird food combo apparently is lashings of butter
on a very soft baker's roll with crispy bacon with mayonnaise and ketchup in it.
I don't think it's weird you've
got me until mayo i'm not a mayo girl but otherwise ideal everything else perfect
do you so i don't know is it well it's not mine so are we going to whisper fight about this or are we just going to agree to disagree
no we'll agree to disagree
more mayo for you
love mayo
absolutely love it
it's all yours
I'm not mad though
I'm not mad
you know some people
have tomato ketchup
with their roast dinner
ooh yeah
or they have mayonnaise
with roast potatoes
or whatever
now if I'm having
a breaded piece of chicken
with a salad and potatoes you can have mayonnaise with roast potatoes or whatever. Now, if I'm having a breaded piece of chicken with a salad and potatoes,
you can have mayonnaise.
You cannot have a sauce.
Well, no, that's wrong, isn't it?
I was going to say when you have gravy, you can't have a sauce,
but of course you can because you can have English mustard,
you can have horseradish, you can have applesauce, mint sauce.
So the roast dinner condiments are allowed in my house,
but I would not have a bottle of ketchup on my table on a Sunday.
No.
Not happening.
No, not ketchup.
But I have witnessed the mayo on the roast.
My sister's partner was Dutch and yeah,
they're big into mayo on everything.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm all for it it but not on a roast dinner thank you
i've had a really nice message here from liss hi nat loving your pod i've heard a couple of times
you need your lights in your living room i'd like to recommend my family-run business on instagram
at aw for home we have a showroom in Enfield. On a side note, loving your
pod with your brother, Tony. He happens to be a customer of ours. Such a lovely guy. Your niece,
Evie, played the harp at my wedding. And it wasn't until days after I realized you were there and my
sister-in-law's got a picture with you is that lovely wow yeah Evie May
Tony's daughter she plays the harp but she used to have one and do events and stuff absolutely
amazing but what a small world so I'm going to check you out I've given you a little business
shout out and I'm going to check out the lighting store and I'm probably going to get in touch with
you Liz so thank you family friends there you've been to her wedding didn't you she said fantastic
well no
I actually went to
with Evie
I thought we were dropping her off
with a harp
I can't quite remember
but I didn't go to the wedding
yeah you weren't
turning up like Oasis
going I've got the harp
I've got the tambourine
let me in
no
no I didn't do that
no
I've had people
send me some links
off of Next
for lights
lovely this you know.
Anything you think would work?
I haven't actually looked into it yet.
Let's have a look.
I'm just opening the link.
Oh, yeah, no, this is quite nice.
It's a five-shaded kind of chandelier option, which is in antique brass, which I need.
It's quite nice.
I'll send it to you, and you can have a little look at it.
Brass Burford
five light
dual mount
height adjustable
ceiling light.
The only thing is
I don't think it's big enough
but it is lovely
so thank you for that.
But yeah,
honestly,
any suggestions
just send them my way.
Yeah.
Any sort of
interior suggestions
I love that.
Lovely jubbly.
So you're looking
for something
like in brass,
something that's got a bit of timelessness,
kind of old school.
Not too modern.
Not too quirky.
Yeah, something that is going to last.
But I need something very, very large
for one end of the lounge
because it's a vaulted ceiling.
So we can go a little bit mad there.
And then at the other end,
it needs to be smaller, but then in keeping with each other. So this is go a little bit mad there. And then at the other end, it needs to be smaller,
but then in keeping with each other.
So this is why I'm having an issue.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Sort of similar,
like cousins of each other,
kind of same,
like similar vibe,
but not.
Similar vibe,
but not exactly the same.
Okay, cool.
What's up us?
07788 201919.
I've just had a message from my brother, David.
Oh yeah.
For the listeners, we've not met Dave yet.
No.
But you will do.
He's just a very busy man,
but he's just said,
hope Bristol was okay.
The tomatoes were amazing.
I could do with some more laughing fans.
Putting in orders.
So yeah, I think he'd like some.
I'm actually going to his house Saturday,
so I'll pick a few for him.
They are unbelievable, though, genuinely.
They're so sweet.
They're like sugar lumps.
I'm going to have to manufacture a reason to come up
and steal some tomatoes.
Well, we are.
You are coming up next week.
We've got to sort out the cameras.
Do you like chilies as well? Oh, I'm less good with spicy, but I'll give it a go. Well, we are. You are coming up next week. We've got to sort out the cameras. Do you like chilies as well?
Oh, I'm less good with spicy,
but I'll give it a go.
Oh, fine.
I'll take a couple.
I made the most amazing tomato
and chili chutney last week.
Oh, okay.
That's something I can get on board
with that kind of thing.
I mean, it's a labor of love.
It takes three or four hours to do,
and I only got a jar and a half out of it, but I telling you now it's unbelievable fine I'll have just one of the jars
then you can keep the other half I can put a small container for you a little teaspoon but that's the
way to do it isn't it preserving I did so much I love that I love all that I did um loads of kind
of pickles and stuff that was my during COVID when everyone else was doing banana bread
because I was already on the banana bread train.
Yeah, yes.
I was pickling everything.
What did you pickle?
You can kind of pickle all sorts.
Like I was doing pickled celery,
which is really good.
I was doing like pickled ginger and stuff.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Picks up the flavours,
whatever you put the flavours with.
I was doing... i'm not really a
celery fan i did a job every now and again i'll do a juice diet sometimes probably won't do it
again naturally because i did quite enjoy it anyway but one of the juices is celery and i'll
tell you no but it's the vehicle for other flavors basically in that situation i was doing i was
doing the you know cucumber and onion and stuff
as per, like, bit of red onion.
You ever had a pickled egg?
Yeah, I've got, yeah, occasionally got those on the,
I think I've got some in the kitchen at the moment.
Yeah, why not?
Have you really?
I've never had a pickled egg.
Yeah, they're fine.
What is it?
Just like a hard-boiled egg in vinegar?
Yeah.
Is that what we're going with?
And it changes the texture a bit, but, yeah, otherwise? Just like a hard-boiled egg in vinegar? Yeah. Is that what we're going with? And it changes the texture a bit, but yeah, otherwise it's just a hard-boiled egg.
Yeah, I love a pickled onion at Christmas.
They do taste different to pickled onions.
I can promise you that.
That's the thing.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, fair enough.
Yeah, I'd like to do a bit more pickling.
A little bit more.
I like, like you say, the preserves.
I like, I like the idea of it. I'd like to make some jams. I like, like you say, the preserves. I like, I like the idea of it.
I'd like to make some jams.
I like,
yeah.
It's just that you need
to actually have a few days
where you're doing
absolutely nothing at all.
And I don't think
I've got that now
until about,
well,
I don't know,
May 2025.
Yeah.
Figure out when you're,
when you're next feeling
a bit ill,
that's,
that'll be the one day
you've got off.
Unbelievable.
What's this? hang on a second i'm sunny david tree northamptonshire uh just wanted to say loving the podcast loving all your conversations you keep me laughing keep
me smiling and i just actually thought i wanted to ask a quick question where did you get your
theme tune from it's really
lovely really catchy and when it comes on I'm like doing a little jig in the kitchen
what you're doing I'm like I'm jigging I'm jigging I'm dancing to that podcast music and they're like
what's that I'm like never mind anyway take care have a great day bye I'm so pleased you love the
music I chose the music we went through loads at the beginning, didn't we?
Yeah.
And then suddenly this kind of big band sort of fun,
a little bit vintage tune came up, which is Life With Nat theme tune.
And, you know, honestly, it reminded me of me and my dad
listening to Frank Sinatra, big band stuff, Nelson Riddle.
And it just immediately, I thought, that's what I want. And that's where it came from. I thought, that's what I want. my dad listening to Frank Sinatra, Big Band Stuff, Nelson Riddle.
And it just immediately, I thought, that's what I want.
And that's where it came from.
I thought, that's what I want.
And I've had loads of people say that they have a little boogie to it.
And I'm just so pleased that people like it.
In fact, I had a lovely message only this morning.
Have a listen to this.
This is, I'm getting cool, Emma.
I'm getting really cool.
Hi Nat, it's Laura from Northamptonshire.
This is my first ever message to you.
I just wanted to let you know that I've been listening to Pod since the beginning and absolutely love it.
But my two boys now, Devon who's 10 and Shasta who's 8,
because I play it in the car sometimes,
they've just got really, really into it too.
And they absolutely love you.
And they sing along to the theme tune and they do impressions of you and they just love all the things that you talk about
and they think you're really funny and really cool so you've got two little fans here in
Northamptonshire aged eight and ten boys as well which is really cool love you bye thank you so so
much hello boys hello I hope you're being good for mummy don't drive her
mad now will you and I'd like to hear your impressions so could you um voice note them over
because you know you might have a little um male Morgana Robinson in the making there
I also want to know what they're singing along to the theme have they made up lyrics or were just doing the by Rose in the loft, and I... Just trying to get Oasis tickets. Just trying to get Oasis tickets,
and I got Liam's
tambourine in the loft.
It's interesting that
because Morgana
did the impression.
I love it.
I think it's brilliant.
And people say,
well, do you get upset
with it or whatever?
How can you get upset?
I think once you've
had an impressionist
do you,
so to speak,
it's pretty iconic, right? yeah but i find myself doing the impression
of the impression which is what i was doing now do you know yeah yeah selling it with the the face
and everything yeah it's um it's the of the caricature of the caricature of all the way
down yeah let's do it let's do this for the specifically for our video
just try to get oasis tickets and i oh yeah but how lovely is that it's lovely that the boys listen
and they enjoy it i like the um younger community having a listen when we don't swear that occasionally
i was just i was thinking the occasional but we do i mark it up and we um you know we do think about it yeah
oh i do there's no time we'll take out anything unnecessary absolutely but also it is my pod so
if i want to swear i will yeah you know what i mean no but yeah we're mindful of it and like
we really appreciate you know that we want it to be the thing is with the swearing thing i've had
a few messages right right, from people,
not many, but a few saying, I really love the pod, but I think the swearing ruins it. So I
won't be listening or whatever. And I can listen, I get it. And that's up to you. But I am going to
be my authentic self. And I come from a family, we swear, you know, my mum and dad swore, my mum
more than my dad, actually.
But I don't know.
It's just the way it has been.
Whether it's right, wrong or indifferent, that's the way it is.
I don't think I swear all the time on here.
And I don't think, you know, I'm like a trooper.
But if it comes out, it comes out.
And I'm not apologising for it.
There's like the occasional F word every like maybe five episodes.
And then I do mark it if it's going to be,
if there's going to be a swear in it.
But like.
It just is what it is.
It is what it is.
You know, we'll soon find out if.
Well, we will because the boys are going to send an impression
and it's going to be.
But yeah, I really, really like that.
It was really lovely.
Oh, so sweet.
Here's a lovely one just listening to the Poppy Cooks episode and now craving roasties I would love to suggest possible guests for an episode as there is often talk about weight and
self-image on the pod would you consider having someone like Laura Adlington or Alex Light on. They're both on Instagram when I look them up.
So yeah, you know, I think it is a common thing that will always come up
and I'm open to guests and that is a lovely, I'll have a look into it.
I will.
I'll see if I can message them and perhaps we can have a little chat about it all.
But yeah, image is always there, whether we like it or not.
It's ingrained in our beings.
So I'm always up for talking like it or not it's ingrained in our beings so I'm always up for
talking about it always and I just think I feel really relaxed about it all at the moment actually
I think do you know what yeah it's just nice to just be just not worry about stuff although
yesterday maybe that's why I've felt a bit ill um I went on my first sort of really long walk with my best mate, Sophie,
and we had a lovely walk down the river.
I finished this walk in about an hour and a half.
I felt like I'd done a marathon.
So unfair, honestly.
You know, it's just been holidays and busy and not doing much.
But, yeah, maybe that's why I feel a bit wiped out, maybe.
I don't know.
But, yeah yeah it'd be
nice to get a few more walks in one of you but yeah no i'll look at that thank you for those
names um you've jotted them down they're great yeah so was it laura is laura adlington and was
it lauren smith they mentioned i don't know where you've got lauren smith from oh because they did
a podcast together called uh go love yourself and it was really great they're both sorry what
was the other name alex light alex light i don't know that one but i know i know lauren smith is
brilliant like oh yeah so alex like body confidence amazing i'll look into looking to but
yeah uh laura adlington was on bake off and did a podcast called Go Love Yourself.
It's sadly ended now.
I think they did like four or five series,
but it was so lovely.
And she still does lots of amazing stuff online about as a plus size woman,
sort of doing lots of fashion and support. Oh, brilliant.
Again, sort of fights back against people being horrible online.
Oh, lovely.
Well, let's get in touch with her.
Oh, fantastic.
And do you know something
exciting if it hopefully it'll happen I always get a bit nervous when you've got guests booked
and you think oh what if something happens and they can't do it or whatever but to hell with it
I'm going to say it anyway um I've got the lovely Amy Hart coming on soon Amy, if you don't know her, was on Love Island and she does lots and lots of
other stuff now. And she's a bit of a fan of the pod. And I met her in the street, actually,
in Oxford Street, interestingly, with Kello. But yeah, I've messaged her and honestly,
she's such a lovely girl. And I really want to chat to her about all of her bits and pieces
in career. And I think she just also wants to I really want to chat to her about all of her bits and pieces in career.
And I think she just also wants to come on and join in the conversation about all of our topics,
Vionetta's queuing, shopping bags.
So I think it'll be a really good one.
So I'm really excited for that one, Em.
Yeah. Any questions and things you want to know from her?
Do get in touch.
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah. So if there are any questions for Amy, please let me know.
Amy Hart, you can message me on 07788 201919 and that'll
be great. And also, I'm not sure when it's going to be, but we are in contact. I am going to have
Kirsty Gallagher on, the wonderful moon lady. I've been reading a couple of her books of late
and they are fantastic. She was on this morning morning this weekend uh but she's gonna be great

and a little q a so you can uh send me some questions in for her as well because it'll be
lovely for you to to be able to get in touch with them through me the wonderful moon lady is that a
for sure job title well she's sort of known as the moon lady. She's doing a lot of festivals at the moment.
She does a lot of the summer stuff.
I met her at Carfest.
Oh, lovely.
I gave her a hug and I said, oh, brilliant.
See you soon.
So it's all good, really.
Oh, well, another lovely little chat.
