Starting point is 00:00:00 TD Direct Investing offers live support. So whether you're a newbie or a seasoned pro, you can make your investing steps count. And if you're like me and think a TFSA stands for Total Fund Savings Adventure, maybe reach out to TD Direct Investing. Oh hello Em, how are you? I'm alright thanks, how are you? I'm good, thank you for squeezing me in because I know you're off soon aren't you?
Starting point is 00:00:39 You're off on your little weekend away I hear. Yeah just popping down to the coast. How lovely. Just a two-nighter hear. Yeah, just popping down to the coast. How lovely. Just a two-nighter thing, but yeah, it'll be nice. Two nights, though, I always feel is good. Gives you a full, full day in the middle. That's it. It does. And if you have that one night away,
Starting point is 00:00:58 you're never fully relaxed, are you? Because you get down to wherever you go in, you know, you check in or you do whatever, you get to your Airbnb or wherever you are. And then I don't know, you just the next day you wake up and you're going home again, aren't you? Yeah, I'm never truly relaxed anyway. But hopefully that means, yeah, tomorrow will just be a full nothing, like nothing planned.
Starting point is 00:01:22 I've been looking through and trying to figure out some options if we want to do something but otherwise we're just gonna have a wander and yeah it'll be nice. Oh lovely just stop off in whatever you want, have a coffee, have a glass of wine. Yeah that place looks nice, should we sit there for an hour? That would be really nice that's it, that's the plan, that's the hope. You lucky devil. Ugh, I need just some time like this. I've just never stopped. I mean, preaching to the choir, you've been... No, I know. I know. Incredibly busy.
Starting point is 00:01:55 It's been busy and I feel rather exhausted after last week. Live. Live. The live is over. Yeah. Let's be honest with the listener. I haven't actually done the live yet have I? This is an early record. What if I completely mess it up? Iconic. It'll be iconic either way. And we're on here now and I don't mention that I've mucked it up. That'd be terrible wouldn't it? Ah no it's fun, it's fun. Oh Christ. You won't muck it up. I am
Starting point is 00:02:34 poo in my pants really. Is that the script? Is that what you're doing in the show? Oh no no no I'm not fortunately doing that. Close to it, shall we say. Evacuating. Well, I'm having the baby, aren't I? Wow. Well, you're fit to pop. The suit they've given you. Did you see the Instagram video?
Starting point is 00:02:56 No. Oh, Emma, please. Here we go, I'm gonna send this to you. It's fantastic. It's someone doing a really funny take of Sonja and her bump. And they've said Sonja and that ridiculously fake baby bump on his tenders.
Starting point is 00:03:14 But please watch the acting. It's brilliant. You can't. How could you? How could you? I tell you Jack. Jack. Jack.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Jack. Jack. He's Please go Debbie! I mean it's lucky I can laugh at myself, isn't it? Really. You go Debbie! You go Debbie! I'm gonna tell Jack! And then just the biggest part. I love it. I'm gonna tell Jack with the huge bum and the flowery dress. But what? I just love people who do that.
Starting point is 00:03:47 They've spent time. Yeah. They've committed to being Sonia with a big bump. I love it. Incredible. Yeah, there was a great, you got the doof doofs the other day and it was like, the real, just the full sort of downtown banana mouth kind of open. Yes. You know what I'm looking forward to actually? Once I leave there.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Being able to smile. Yeah, and I think some of my frown lines are going to go. I don't think I'll need Botox or anything. I think, give me like a month and people will say, wow, you look incredible. Just not having to do that. Screaming, crying and gurning every hour, God sends. Yeah. Professional gurna. Have you seen them? They're amazing, aren't they? What? Professional gurna?
Starting point is 00:04:36 The professional gurnas. I've got no idea what you're on about. They are professional. They're competitions. Oh, yes. Amazing, like old men. And they look like they look like little cauliflowers. Incredibly sort of rubber faces. Yeah. Oh wow. Yeah, I've just hit professional gurney on Google and God it's creepy. It's actually really weird. Les Dawson used to do it but not obviously over the top in that manner but he used to like a bit
Starting point is 00:05:08 of a go on you know bless him. Reminds me of one of my favorite Tumblr accounts from years ago was folded Ross Kemp have you ever seen that? Lots of people have told me about that Greg James is obsessed with that. Oh it's incredible oh if you, yeah, give Ross Kemp folded a search. I will absolutely have a look at that. Obviously we had Ross back to work with us and it was so lovely to have him around and see him. I feel like Grant's the only person who could have attended a wedding in a leather jacket, didn't change his outfit, which I quite liked, iconic. Just iconic, just all of the stuff. Amazing. But if anyone does want to hear about me really going into the live episode, please listen to
Starting point is 00:05:57 Off the Telly this week because obviously that's the telepod I do with Jo and I'm going to really take a deep dive into what went into it and how we all felt and that sort of thing so please head over there for that. I just popped into Tesco's actually and the Vionette is £1.75 on offer which I thought I must tell you. Not too bad. I'm on the kombucha again, look. I'm loving it. Oooh. I'm a the kombucha again. Look, I'm loving it. Oh
Starting point is 00:06:27 I'm a bit obsessed with it. I Quite like it. It's caffeinated though because it's tea based. I am I'm a caffeine wimp. I don't I Don't do the cat. I'm on a I've made myself a decaf Yes coffee here, but I didn't know it had caffeine in it. It's tea base. So it's sort of fermented Oh fermented with tea and then but with tea in it usually I didn't know that but it's something It's still good for you. It's still supposed to be like some good good stuff in there isn't there live cultures for your belly or whatever I don't know But I'm quite enjoying that rather than a Rio light. It's got to be better. Yeah Yeah, you know or a diet coke or whatever. You know what I mean? Yeah. I'm just trying to feel a bit better. It's still very gloomy outside. It's still very cold. So gloomy. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:07:18 And I know it's boring. I was going to say to you, how you feeling? I know you're going to the coast, but wrap up. I know it's going to be grim. It's going to be miserable. Yeah. And then it's sunny just in time for us to head back. Oh, well. Oh, do you know what? You'll have a good time. Doesn't matter, does it? It's a company you're keeping and that little respite for your brain. That's what's that's why you're going. You'll bring it will be sunny in your head when you're not working your nuts off.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Yeah, for a minute. For a minute. It was really funny actually. I heard Parents in Hell and it was Rob when I had a really good weekend. I wasn't working at the weekend. He said, well, I had a gig on Friday night and then I had a gig on Sunday night. But apart from that, I wasn't working at the weekend. And I do think, Sunday night but apart from that I wasn't working at the weekend and I do think, I think with this podcasting like especially, I kind of say to people no no I'm not working and I go oh no I'm doing two pods today. You do have to remember that this is work, much as I love it, it's your brain's still
Starting point is 00:08:21 working, you're still thinking about what you're doing and worrying about if it's good enough or if it's terrible or whatever. So it's still not quite the break, is it? No, it is still sat at your computer doing work. It's a legit work. I've got something to tell you. Lovely Cara, who we had on for the seed sowing, sew along. Oh yes. Do you remember we spoke about doing that? I'm going to speak to Cara in the next couple of days and I'm going to get a date in for us to go to the garden centre together and have a chat and
Starting point is 00:08:58 then we can tell the listeners what we're buying and then we can do a bit of a sew along and see how we all get on with stuff. I need this because I bought the flat and all that. I've got this little grey patio that I'm desperate to fill with plants and stuff. I've bought a book about what to plant for vegetables and things like that. I quite like a productive sum of it to be useful to be veg and... Yeah, well that's my aim this year. You know I do the tomatoes and chillies, we know that. But I was saying to Mark, we eat a lot of courgettes, we have a lot of aubergines, and
Starting point is 00:09:37 we eat lots and lots of French beans. The kids eat a lot of... So I'm thinking even if I were to branch out to those three things, I'd be saving myself a fortune and they'd just taste better. And cucumbers I'd like to do. Cucumbers, if you can get them to go then apparently you can get loads of those. Honestly, don't stop eating quick cucumbers my kids. I'd save a fortune. Yeah, and they're really fun. They're really just, it'd be great. And herbs as well, just herbs. I've always got a little herb trough, shall we say. And I chuck some rosemary in, a bit
Starting point is 00:10:09 of basil, lemon thyme, usually a few chives sometimes, which I like to chop on a bit of scrambled egg or whatever you. So yeah, herbs are great. Herbs are great. But I think the idea of being able to pick a courgette from the garden and chuck it in my pasta, that's pretty special. And they've got the courgette flowers. So courgettes grow with a flower. I've never had one, but they look amazing. I always hear every year that you'll see... Oh, wild days.
Starting point is 00:10:38 I'll see recipes and stuff on TikTok and things. Like, yeah. You fill them with cheese, usually an Italian cheese like a ricotta. Sometimes I think people fill them with mascarpone, possibly or feta and then you deep fry them. You deep fry the flowers. They are one of my favorite things to eat if they're done properly. So that's yeah, that is my aim. But yeah, Cara isn't massive, I don't think from what we spoke about on the part of when I've spoke to her obviously in life. I don't think she does loads and loads of veg, but I've got the books downstairs, I've got how to grow
Starting point is 00:11:17 veg in containers. So I'm going to have a little look at all of that. And then we're going to go out with Cara and I just want to bring some more colour to the garden and maybe do some flowers which I can cut for vases rather than buy fresh flowers in the shops. So yeah I thought that would be really good to get in pretty soon really I know it's still miserable but look spring's on its way so we gotta gotta get going. We've got to get the seedlings going, yeah, because it's, you know, they want a few weeks before it gets sunny. So this is it. This is it now.
Starting point is 00:11:50 They're saying get planting. So yeah, keen on that. I am a bit busy, as usual, but I reckon we can definitely squeeze in a couple of days in the next fortnight to get Cara over. So I'm going to chat to her. I'm going to get that in. I think that would be lovely. And actually follow up on something that I say on this pod and actually do something
Starting point is 00:12:12 that has been an idea and bring it to life. Because I do feel a lot of it's just empty talking and people might be getting a little bit annoyed at the whole thing really. Oh, let's do a games night. Oh, we could do this. Oh, we do a live show. Oh, we could do this. Oh, we do a live show. Oh, we do a so long and nothing happens.
Starting point is 00:12:29 So this will be the first thing that we do. With the Fizz loyalty program, you get rewarded just for having a mobile plan. You know, for texting and stuff. And if you're not getting rewards like extra data and dollars off with your mobile plan, you're not with Fizz. Switch today. Conditions apply. Details at Fizz.ca.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Do you like my jumper? Really lovely. I love that you're wearing a hat as well indoors. What's the... Well, I got up this morning and had a shower. Didn't have time to style my hair and I needed to do a little photo for this Bassets campaign I'm working on, hence the purple jumper you see. Ah! And then I realised I really like purple, purple suits me. Yeah!
Starting point is 00:13:14 Lovely! And I've got a lilac polo neck that I've bought which I use for this campaign as well, it's all about vitamins and just February being a bit gloomy and making it more fun, turned February into funuary which has been quite a cute little thing to do. Nice. But I've realised that I really like purple. Anyway going back to the hat, I knew I had to get on this jump on the swings and do kind of a fun thing and I didn't have time to do my hair so I always shove a hat on. I do love a hat. I'd live in a hat if I could. I would.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Yeah yeah it's a good shirt. Yeah I'm jealous actually. I'm a bit shivery this hat. I'd live in a hat if I could. I would. Yeah, yeah, it's a good shirt. Yeah, I'm jealous actually. I'm a bit shivery this side. I should have put a jumper on. But yeah, purple, yeah, love it. Big fan of purple. I made the mistake of trying to fight the weather. And I went to work last week and I've chucked on a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt and I was so cold I put a coat on I was so cold that now
Starting point is 00:14:12 every single day I have to wear a quite a thick jumper and I feel better because when I get cold I don't know if you do but if I'm cold I get extremely angry hmm yeah I get migraines kicking big time, in fact my ears get cold. I can get impatient. You just don't want to be out there long. I get really grumpy. Just like, just get on with it! Yeah, I'll see what you mean. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:36 The hangry, what is the hangry for cold? Coldry. Cold-ry? No. Um, kangry. Kangry? Don't know. Congry. Kangry? Kangry? Don't know. Kongry? Kongry? Kangry? Kongry? Not sure. But anyway, I like being warm.
Starting point is 00:14:52 I enjoy being warm. And you're trying to balance it out by being warmer this week to even out the extra coldness last week? Yeah. In fact I'm sweating now. Baking. In the woolly hat jumper. That'll show them. That'll do it. In fact, I'm sweating now, baking in the woolly hat jumper. That'll show them. That'll do it.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Yeah, that evens it. There you go. There you go. We need some spring. Bring on the spring. It won't be long now. I'm absolutely sure of it. It's all good.
Starting point is 00:15:19 It is long, though. It just takes a long, old time. You know, last time we had a chat, Em, and you had a top on that the shoulders kept falling down? Oh yeah. We had a fantastic message here from Hannah from Wychford. And she said, Hi Nat, just listening to the pod with Emma. And I think that Emma needs a shoulder pad. Ah. the pod with Emma and I think that Emma needs a shoulder pad. Not like 80s dynasty style
Starting point is 00:15:48 but lots of ladies struggle with having rounded shoulders so lots of modern shoulder pads available. Trini Waddell swears by them and has lots of advice on her page. Hope this helps love the pod. Do they stick on or would I still have a like a trouble with them sliding off as well? I think they would probably have kind of self-adhesive stuff that would stick to the clothes you're wearing or possibly to your skin but I think a shoulder pad is the way forward. I think it's a great message from Hannah. I'll look into it. I'm giving it a giggle now. I think you should have a go and have a little look at Trinny's page and look at Trinny Woodle's shoulder pad-age advice. I like wearing a shoulder pad. I like a 1980s dynasty style shoulder pad. Fantastic. Let me have a look at these voice notes
Starting point is 00:16:37 and see who's messaged us because otherwise we never get around to answering anyone. Let's see. I can only apologize profusely for the amount of deleted messages. I always record them, they're really shit and I don't end up sending them. never get round to answering anyone. Let's see. actors and actresses doing different things and it's been more like accepted now you know it's more normal people don't really see you coming to it anymore you know like you doing great fish bake-off yeah well there's Natalie doing great fish bake-off now it's not Sonja. I just want to say that when I'm watching these centres now I really struggle to watch you and Sonja because I think oh that's Natalie I feel like I know you, like you are a friend. So I'm really struggling to watch you now as Sonja. So my question is, when you're watching
Starting point is 00:17:28 these centres with your daughter, do you watch it and see Phil Mitchell or do you watch it and see Stephen McFadden? And like when you worked with June Brown, did you see Doc when you were watching it or did you see June? And also like when you're in these centres, if you're in the Vic, when you're
Starting point is 00:17:45 watching it, do you see the illusion that we all see? It's like, you know, it's a real pub sort of thing, looks real. Or when someone walks through that front door, do you think, oh god, I just had to walk through that door, then drive to the inside set and carry on? Do you know what I mean? Just curious, absolutely loved the pod. You keep me company on my way to and fro work. I'm going now, but we're not a talk of shit. Bye! Thanks, Harry.
Starting point is 00:18:15 That's lovely listener, Harry. I thought they were brilliant, brilliant questions from Harry. It worries me slightly, because when I thought about this, am I not a very good actor? Because he should see Sonya on screen. So when I watch EastEnders, I know everybody in it and I know every nook and cranny to the show.
Starting point is 00:18:36 But when I am sat in my lounge watching, I see Phil, I see Alfie Moon, I see Kat. I never ever think of them as my acquaintances or work colleagues or friends. So why does he see me as Natalie, as Sonia? It's a bit of a worry. Oh no, see I'm more on the Harry thing that I will. As soon as I know a bit of the behind, like anything behind the scenes of it, it does take me out of it all. If I'm know a bit of the behind, like anything behind the scenes of it, it does take me out of it all.
Starting point is 00:19:07 If I'm watching a scene of the calf, I never think about, oh, behind there there's a chair and a couple of lights and Mark's filming it, or I never ever think about any of that and I know it all inside out. Is it because I've grown up with it and I don't know any different? Probably, because it, yeah, that's, I mean that's great. It's really great that you can lean in and do that, but I get this situation where now when I listen to podcasts or TV and I hear ADR or like a bad edit, it takes, I know in each person's industry you'll notice certain things that take the
Starting point is 00:19:48 mystery out of things but yeah, no, it's great that you can lean in and enjoy it in its like actual pure what it's supposed to be form. I can really enjoy it, yeah. Now I'm thinking is there something wrong with me? No, no, no, no, I'm sure like because I'm such a fan I think of the show. I will not get so excited about watching Phil Mitchell. I Never think about Steve McFadden He's so different anyway to feel that I Don't know. I just wonder am I very close then to Sonya and have I not been acting as well as I should have been
Starting point is 00:20:25 then to Sonia and have I not been acting as well as I should have been? I don't know. No, I think it's a personality thing outside of us as viewers. I will get taken out of films really quickly just being like I'm easily distracted. I'm not very good at sort of staying in. Can you hear the building work going on upstairs? No. It's annoying. Talk literally, talking of being distracted. I'm so easily taken out of the TV, the film, whatever I'm watching. I'm not very good at staying in and staying concentrated. I mean, I'm on my phone all the time while I watch.
Starting point is 00:21:01 I'm listening to TV rather than watching it a lot of the time. That's my floor rather than anything the actors are doing. Fair enough. Fair enough. So it's other people, not me. But it's great that you can enjoy it as pure as the rest of us should be. I can, yeah I do. I can sit there and watch it as pure entertainment. It's good. I'm really looking forward to not being in it. So I can sit with Eliza and watch it. That will be really interesting for me
Starting point is 00:21:33 because I won't have any scripts and I won't know what's going on. Yeah. And that'll be great. Even when you're in it, you're only getting the script of the bit you're in, right? No, I get the whole script. Do you see everything? But I never ever have time to read it.
Starting point is 00:21:46 Oh, I just read my bits. Yeah. Yeah. Christmas Day, I always read it fully. Ah, so you know. It's a bit of a tradition. I sit down and think, right, what's happening? You know, it's a big one.
Starting point is 00:21:56 Christmas Day. So I always read it fully. But most of the time I just pull my bits out and learn my bits. There's no time. Yeah. Do you remember when we were doing the pod and we were talking about superstitions? Most of the time I just pull my bits out and learn my bits. There's no time. Yeah. Do you remember when we were doing the pod and we were talking about superstitions? Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:22:09 We've had a couple of really funny messages. Listen to this one. My mum was so superstitious, the list was endless. We couldn't use scissors on a Monday, wear green, pass knives, cross the stairs, walk under ladders, put your hands in the same water whilst washing dishes unless you spatter it. What? I could go on. Wow.
Starting point is 00:22:35 You poor thing, your life must have been a misery. Sorry, I haven't got your name on here as well, which is my own fault. But you'll know who you are. Bloody hell, that's a lot to deal with, isn't it? Yeah, because you'll just be doing something normal and they go, no, don't! How dare, you're wearing green and cutting on a Tuesday? No, Monday, was it?
Starting point is 00:22:54 Oh, I don't know. You can't use scissors on a Monday. I mean, what happens if you've got a project to do for school? No, fuck the homework. No scissors allowed. But mum, I'm doing an art project, a mosaic, no! No. Wow. Be hard. Guess what Eliza's done? Oh yeah? She's chosen her GCSE options. She was very grown up.
Starting point is 00:23:25 Okay, what's she going for? So she's going to do double science, not triple science. Which the school don't, they say to go for a triple science. I think with double you can only get a certain grade you can't get full top marks or whatever but what I said to Eliza I said are you going to be a scientist do you want to be involved with science in any way and she said no not really I said we'll do that then do your double science she's going for art, drama, DT. Oh yeah that's fun. Design technology. Yeah yeah, loved a bit of that. History. Mm-hmm great. And Spanish. Si.
Starting point is 00:24:14 F-f-f-f-f-f. Gracias. Lovely. What a nice mix. Well listen, I just want her to be happy at school. Yeah. It doesn't really matter what I think because I'm not going in every day doing it. I just want her to go to school and think, oh, I've got a, you know, like, at the moment she'll go, I hate today because I've got this, this, this, and this, and she's not interested in them.
Starting point is 00:24:38 So I'm hoping once the GCSE time comes around and you're in all the lessons that you want to do, it'll all become a little bit more enjoyable because you're not, you haven't got those, oh, geography, computer science, French, whatever they may be, you know, the lessons that she isn't interested in. That's what I'm hoping. Yeah, gives a, I mean, there is the pressure because it's still, you know, working towards grades and everything, but you... Yeah, you get to focus... It is, but shall we have a candid conversation?
Starting point is 00:25:10 Oh, yeah. Let's be honest. And I know... I'm sorry to say this, but... Who ever talks about GCSE grades? talks about GCSE grades? Not really. It's only when the results come out each year and the news goes, oh, it's easier than it used to be, oh, harder than it used to be. Oh, everyone's getting all the grades too easy. A couple of ways.
Starting point is 00:25:39 They've worked really hard. But when do you really ever go, oh? No, no No, I mean, I know that you need certain things to then move on don't you for your A levels or whatever So is that right? Yeah, I was at work. I was in Albert Square. I haven't got a clue Yeah, you want to be A's to C's for certain like Certain courses A levels and stuff you want want to be in the those brackets So A to C and then D to E and you know
Starting point is 00:26:08 opens up doors if you're in the higher chunk and then opens up even more doors if you're in the highest highest chunk but that's A levels out onwards for like university you want to hit you want to get to a certain number of points to be able to get into certain universities. I don't worry about that I don't want my kids to go into university. I want them to get to work, get money. So I don't worry about that. Yeah, I do actually. Unless they have a vocation, unless they say, I want to be a vet, I'm going to be a doctor, and they absolutely know what they are doing, and they go into university to do that, I genuinely would rather my kids go into a firm, start from the bottom. If that was in television, start as a runner. If that's in banking, start as a cashier.
Starting point is 00:26:54 Whatever it be, I think get into a place and get your experience, get working with people and get earning money. And if that means changing jobs, are you not sure? I think because I see a lot of people who go to university, who come out, they've had a great time, but they come out and they still don't really know what they wanna do. And when they go for the jobs, the first thing is experience which they haven't got.
Starting point is 00:27:22 And I think it's a real dangerous one. And I think it's, yeah dangerous one and I think it's yeah I listen everybody's different but if the kids know what they want to do and they're absolutely set on it brilliant I'll support them all the way they can go wherever they need to go but if they're not sure really what they want to do I'll be saying come on get down wherever hairdressers, McDonald's, wherever it is, let's start earning some money is what I would say.
Starting point is 00:27:49 Yeah, I used university as a figuring it out a bit more. I didn't end up doing what I started there. I changed course and stuff, but yeah, I can see why just getting on with it would negate that and be better. But also there's a bunch of sort of the work experience kind of bits within certain industries that say that you have to have a university course that you're doing. So it is a catch 22 all the way around. A lot in a hard place, isn't it? Yeah. So hopefully they'll sort of have a bit of an idea of what they want to do when
Starting point is 00:28:29 they get closer to it. But it does, it's really hard because the same with the GCSEs is it feels like it's such a big decision because you're rolling out, just rolling out anything geography, rolling out anything the third science of the triple, you know. Yeah. Just the two sciences instead of the three. But it doesn't matter because it can all sort of filter back through, but it feels, does end up feeling so big. It's such a big decision.
Starting point is 00:28:54 I think it's completely ridiculous that at the ages these children are at, they are making these decisions. When hormones are wild, you don't know who you are yet, you're trying to figure things out, you're trying to are wild, you don't know who you are, yeah, you're trying to figure things out, you're trying to be liked, you're trying... I just find it all mad. I think all of it needs to be flipped on its head. But as you said, if she'd have been forced to carry on with a bunch of stuff she didn't want to do anymore, then it's even worse. I mean, isn't it, American universities, you even going to university is quite general.
Starting point is 00:29:28 You end up picking your majors as you go along. So you pick courses from basically anything, any kind of all over the place. You have been building credits, but you can go, oh, I'm going to do something about, you know, this science and that thing and this sociology, women's studies and all this. It merges all together in whatever way you want, I think. That sounds good. I don't know. That's what I've learned from films about the USA. I think that's how it works. You can have a major and a minor and so long as you end up with just a generic degree of some kind, a bit of everything.
Starting point is 00:30:06 Right. Yeah, it just means that they come out of university without having that clearer path still. Yeah, it's an interesting one because again, I do what I do and I fell into it at such a young age and just continued to do it and enjoyed it and that's what I do what I do and I fell into it at such a young age and just continued to do it and enjoyed it and that's what I do. So I can only kind of guide them and I can't really go, oh well, I chose to do this and then I did these A levels and then I decided to go to uni, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:35 I haven't got any of that. So I just need to say, look, I want you to be happy and I don't want you to sort of do things that aren't gonna earn you money really because money makes the world go round whether we like it or not really. And I just feel like they all need to, the value of money and having your own money and feeling proud to have some money and saving and maybe getting things with it. You know, I just think that's sort of life skills really that I think you need
Starting point is 00:31:06 You know gonna get him to get Saturday jobs. Oh, definitely Hundred percent. Yeah, you can't Eliza would be having a Saturday job now if it was years ago You can be 14 now you can't you got a be 16. I had a paper rounds I had a paper round before I was 16 and then worked in a well summer field It was there back before you know when that still existed as a Saturdays and Sundays doing little tail shifts or I was on the reduction stickers I got to get on the reduction stickers. Oh brilliant.
Starting point is 00:31:36 That was a great job. Get the little yellow stickers on yeah and you know then you're earning like 30 quid a week which ends up being quite a lot of it. It's a lot. It's a lot of money. It's a 16 yarder. Yeah and you used to be able to sweep up make tea and stuff 14, 15 in a barbers or hairdressers you know you could do that but unfortunately she's got to be 16 but yeah she'd be out now at the weekends if she could. She absolutely would yeah. Hey ho. Yeah. Be me soon. You're gonna get your uh your Marks and Spcers job, aren't we? We're getting you. Still,
Starting point is 00:32:09 you've got to do a cover letter and a CV though. Have you got that sorted? No, but I was going to pop in to Brookfield soon and have a little chat with some of my mates who work on the tills, see what they can do to help me. You're going to be too busy. I know there's this fun dream of of oh I'll get discount and all that but Christ you've not got time to breathe let alone get down tills you know. You're right there is a lot going on and you know we had lovely Kirsty on last week the moon lady. I sort of followed this thing right and it was a new moon yesterday
Starting point is 00:32:46 Sorry really complicated for all the people listening if you're listening on the same day. It's still early late. Whatever Anyway, it was a new moon and it said Listening to Kirsty. I was reading up and it said everything that you've done to work hard and get to where you are now Today is the day where you've got to show what you've done, be brave and tell everyone what you've put into place, you go with it today. And I have to say, yesterday, I had the most unbelievable day.
Starting point is 00:33:17 I had phone calls from different people, I set up meetings with different people, I had a job offer, which I can can't do but it was pretty bloody special It was really odd like yesterday was a really special day and I think it is because I'm open to the moon Just saying you're open to the moon. We've all said it. We've all said it about you. You're very open to the moon I'm just open to the moon We've seen it. We've seen it. We know She's open to the moon. Look at her over there open to the moon. Just open to the moon. We've seen it. We've seen it. We know She's open to the moon. Look at her over there open to the moon. Oh
Starting point is 00:33:49 What's she doing? She's like, oh, she's open herself to the moon again Shut the curtains she's opening us. Ah, she's open to the moon. Oh The moon the moon's on Shut your eyes over ah Covering a kid's eyes. She's got the moon on again. She's mooning. Oh, she's mooning She's open to it. She's oh Yeah, good job office coming in They've seen your moon.
Starting point is 00:34:28 She's open. They've seen my bush. Yeah, well. And they're like, well we want to see the rest. Yeah, yeah. I'm quite on the, I'm a bit on the skeptical side of a lot of that. Um. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:44 I'd like to, I haven't done enough homework on it all I try to and after my horrible breakup a couple years ago. Yeah, I went into the little witchy shop and chatted to chat to someone there and I was like, oh, it's my it's gonna be my year as you know, it's all this stuff is coming up. It's gonna be my 33rd birthday. I'm gonna do all this fresh like, sell me a bunch of these sort of sage sticks Yeah, and I just forgot to get it done. I just I've still got it all just so I've just still got the stuff I'm not good sage is good to sage your house. Anyway, whenever good this month. That's what I meant today. Yeah Mrs. So with some black salt you supposed to put in the corners and stuff to help, I don't know, clear out some stuff.
Starting point is 00:35:27 Yeah so we've got a bunch of this stuff and I'm just not good at it. I wish I noticed it properly and could help. I know what you mean, it's just a lot. It's a lot of things to fit in. There you go. Here's a superstition for you. Don't do any washing on New Year's Day because you wash a family member away something my nan always said who's been dead over 30 years but there's no way I'd put my washing machine on that day is it just clothes washing or is it also washing up and I reckon? I reckon it's clothes, don't do any washing. Just clothes. I'm not bothering to do anything on New Year's Day. I'm not washing. I'm not doing any washing. No. Absolutely not. Just in case my washer family member down the drain with it. Shuffle
Starting point is 00:36:18 it all into the washing machine. Joni is that you? Like forget she's in the boat. Oh no! Pushed her away! Happy New Year! No yeah all right well yeah some of these have got like the weirdest, weirdest backstories. I know my lovely lady used to send me facts you know the facts and the kind of You know the facts and the kind of etymology and you know looking at the words and meanings of phrases and stuff. I don't know where she's gone and I can't find her on my business WhatsApp which is really annoying to message her. So this is a shout out. I can't even remember her name. Isn't it awful? Is it Laura? No, default to Laura. No everyone's called Laura. I thought it was like Georgie or George. Georgie Georgina. What's this? It wasn't Laura. It was something. Maybe it
Starting point is 00:37:18 was Georgina. Don't know. Anyway, I need to find her. I will have a look at this. It's amazing how many Georgis and Georginas I've got in here. Quite a lot. Anyway, we'll find her. But I really, really enjoyed getting your messages. And I would like to play one every week, a little fact. Could could you send me some more please? Or have you stopped listening? Have you switched off? What have I done wrong? You know, send us a message, please.
Starting point is 00:37:53 I would like that. An urgent appeal for a lost etymologist, please. This is an urgent appeal for a lost natoholic. Let's have a look at what this is. Hi Nat, Carly from South Africa again. I've just been listening to your latest Nat's niece's podcast and you were talking about friends and the lady had the question about binning a friend.
Starting point is 00:38:19 And I think with maturity, I have realized, I'm 43 now, that one needs to be mindful of friendships because research shows that we become like the people we spend time with. So every now and again I look around and look at the people I'm spending time with and am I spending time with people just because they coincidentally happen to be around
Starting point is 00:38:43 or am I choosing to spend time with people that build me up and don't bring me down? And obviously there are times where friends can be draining because we need to be there for them. But I really do feel that your general interactions with people that you consider your closest friends should build you up. I listened to a podcast,
Starting point is 00:39:06 I can't remember whose podcast it was, but they were interviewing Moe Gardert, and he was saying that actually, according to research, the human brain can only really handle five close friendships. So if you're wasting those friendships on people that not aren't worth it, but aren't right for you, He talks about a friendship audit and exactly what I was saying, looking at the friends, looking at the people that you hold closest to you and just making sure
Starting point is 00:39:35 that they're the right people. Not that any person is more valuable than another but certain people would be right for you or not. Hmm. Really interesting, actually. Yeah. Yeah. An audit is needed occasionally of just going, I do a lot for you and I get nothing back. Yeah. Or every time someone rings, they go,
Starting point is 00:39:57 oh, are you still alive? And you go, yeah, I don't want to explain anymore how busy I am or apologize that I haven't seen you. You know that one? Oh yeah, that's yeah. Yeah, luckily, luckily most of my friendships, so we're all sort of on the same page, we're all just incredibly busy, but yeah, and it just pick up friendships like no time's happened. It just carries on. There's no, and that's, that's what friends are for. That's what friends are about, they are. And I think the human brain not being able to handle more than five friendships sounds about right to
Starting point is 00:40:31 me because I can't handle more than that really. I've got lots of, just lots of... No, lots of people. ...like little ones that are popping and... Different to have lots of people. Yeah, yeah. But close, sort of, daily,, but close daily daily friends, it cycles about. I'm very bad at not keeping up. But, we'll get there.
Starting point is 00:40:57 Don't text me enough, do you? Me? To you? Oh, I'm sorry. No, I'm joking. Wouldn't it be awful if I was like that? Oh, God. So boring. Bore off. Still alive.
Starting point is 00:41:09 Yeah, no. Oh, I'd happily, I'd happily be better friends with you if you've got time for me. You're still alive? Oh, Nat, fine. I'll text you about your bush. Oh, don't. Brilliant. Right. There you go. Oh, well, it's been lovely having that chat. Oh, don't. Brilliant. Right, there you go.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Oh, well, it's been lovely having that chat. It hasn't it? Yeah, very nice. I hope you have a really lovely couple of days away as well. Yeah, I've got to pack and get stuff together and sort it out. Wrap up. Just really, really quickly because giving away what time we're doing this, trying to sort out a Valentine's card, just trying to make one, you know, a little DIY. Just make one. Oh, very friends. Make the present. Make the present.
Starting point is 00:41:51 Just trying to do that now. Like now, but also pack and also I haven't got a present. I picked up the girl as a card each that says you're my favorite person. Obviously bought them the same one because otherwise they'll be murders. And I got them a drinking cup with a heart on. Because we need more cups in the house. I thought we'd get some more bottles, water bottles. That's all the cupboards are filled with, but I thought I don't want to buy my cuddly toy because I've got enough of them in the house.
Starting point is 00:42:15 So I will, I'm going to throw a couple of water bottles away and to make room for the new ones. Yeah, yeah. Well, there we go. Baby James is here. I'm going to go for a cuddle. All right, yeah. Let's go. See, yeah. Well, there we go. Baby James is here. I'm going to go for a cuddle. All right. Yeah. Let's go. See you soon. Thanks everyone for listening. 0778 20 1919. Send us your messages. You'll hear from me on Thursday. Bye.
