Starting point is 00:00:00 We just compared fantasy football players to blockbuster movies and you guys loved it. Today we're doing TV characters and one of them you'll have to stick around to hear me out on. Welcome to the lineup fantasy football show. I'm Mitch Anderson. I'm Justin Mello. And Mello, today we're comparing the NFL's biggest stars to television's most iconic characters and then giving you our verdict on if that character is a buy or a sell. We will as always have time stamps and chapters as well in case of spoilers if you have not seen any of the shows mentioned. but Mello, let's jump into your first TV character comp for fantasy football.
Starting point is 00:00:32 This is why we do this, Mitch. Just stupid stuff like this. I live for. I live for this. I'm going to start by talking about a guy we've actually talked about quite a bit on this show. And that's Travis Hunter of the Jacksonville Jaguars. I'm going to be comparing him to Obrun Martel of Game of Thrones. One of my favorite shows ever until they butchered the ending. And spoiler alert here, I don't have a great ending here either.
Starting point is 00:00:56 But to compare both these guys, they were both one of the most exciting new additions to the big show in years. And just as the Jaguars were enamored with Hunter's ability to play both sides of the ball, King's Landing was shocked by Oberyn's willingness to go both ways as well. They both also had some of the most unique physical skill sets were considered to be one of those dangerous weapons of their time. And just as Tyrion Lancer chose Oberyn to be his champion, Liam Cohen and James Gladstone sought out Travis Hunter to be this franchise's savior. Going into his rookie season, it seemed like there was no mountain that Travis Hunter couldn't conquer. Well, except for maybe the mountain.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Just when it seemed like Obermarthel would defeat Gregor Cleggain, fate had a shocking twist, and Oberyn's time on the show was cut short. I'm not saying that Travis Hunter will have a short NFL career, maybe just as shortston as a fantasy-relevant player. The Jacksonville receiver room is crowded, and injury concerns might make the Jags willing to stick Hunter at his more natural position of cornerback full-time. while using them sparingly on offense. I fear a year from now,
Starting point is 00:02:00 Hunter drafters and dynasty leagues will be equatable to Oberyns sand snakes, bitter and looking for revenge against those who betrayed them. In this case, the Jaguars coaching staff. Oberyn and Hunter are undoubtedly fan favorites, but maybe not the mainstays we thought they'd be originally.
Starting point is 00:02:17 I love this. We continue to plant our flag deeper and deeper into the ground on the Travis Hunter thing. I'm with you. He's still a sell for me, even with all the things going on right now. I think it's one of those things where the excitement is bigger than what you're actually going to get from a production side. Yeah, I am so excited to eat those words when he goes out and has like seven for 112 week one. But until then, I'm staying on the on the cell side. Let's jump into our second one.
Starting point is 00:02:43 I'm going to talk about why Josh Allen is Walter White from Breaking Bad. Both Walter and Josh Allen started their careers very forgettably, many people giving up on them ever being a success despite showing promise years before, Allen at Wyoming, Walt at Grey Matter, but both Walter and Josh Allen's decision-making became the key force in correctly focusing their traits in a way that maximize their success, of course in Walt's chemistry and Josh Allen's cannon arm. You cannot give them all the credit, though, as the timing of Josh Allen and Walt's ascension correlated directly
Starting point is 00:03:16 with the introduction of partners that on the surface seemed to have behavioral issues, but truly just needed a leader to untap their potential in Stefan Diggs and Jesse Pinker. and that mellow is where we really start cooking. Love them or hate them, Josh and Walter couldn't seem to escape the round bald guy that followed them around for years as their careers took off, Hank Schrader and Brian Dayball, two shadows to our protagonists. Of course, with every great story though, each of them had a villain, a terrifying, psychotically focused antagonist who seemed to know their every move in Gus Fring and Tom Brady. Walter White used Hector Salamanca, aka Tio or Uncle, for those who don't know Spanish, to defeat Gus Fring, as well as
Starting point is 00:03:58 Josh Allen using father time to defeat Tom Brady, or at least get him the hell out of the division. And with their greatest adversaries out of the way, Walter and Josh Allen saw their greatest success. A drug empire, an MVP, more money than either could ever need. You remember that line when Hank asks Walt, what he got in there, Cinderbox? And he says half a million cash. Well, for Josh Allen, he'd just say half of a quarter salary. Neither one of them, though, has been able to get what they truly set out for from the start. Walt just wanted more time with his family. Josh Allen just wanted a Super Bowl,
Starting point is 00:04:30 and neither one has been successful. But as far as fantasy football is concerned, I think we're sitting in the golden era of Josh Allen for a while longer, the same way that I think Walter White was in the golden era of TV characters. Mello, a guy opens his door and blows a 40-point lead heading into a Monday night football game and you think that of Josh? No, he is the one who knocks. somebody cooked here and that somebody is you. Also, I appreciate the little Spanish lesson in there,
Starting point is 00:04:58 a little duelingo. Yeah, for those who don't know Tio. Yeah. As a breaking bad stand and as somebody who has been very vocal about how overpower Joshan is in fantasy and in dynasty and how he's far and away the 1.1 in Superflex leagues, this was a beautiful comparison. That's well done. Thank you. I'm going to be talking about AJ Brown and comparing him to 11 from Stranger Things, which just wrapped up. I'm super glad AJ Brown actually wears 11, so I can just refer to both of them as such for the entirety of this segment. So early on, not much was known about 11, but it soon became very clear how special and gifted 11 was, particularly after getting discovered by a close ally by the name of Mike, Vrable in the case of H.A. Brown and Wheeler in the case of L.
Starting point is 00:05:46 AJ Brown, of course, went on to play for the Eagles. He was a major part of saving the day and leading his team to victory in the season. finale, aka the Super Bowl, similar to how Elle would time and time again save the day in the various season finale of Stranger Things. Sadly, the most recent season finale was a bit different as neither of our 11s were present at the end. They both had heated fights with their respective number ones, Jalen Hertz for the Eagles and Henry Creel of Stranger Things, which led to irresolvable conflict and ultimately the end of an era. It's a sad ending, but in the case of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers leave us with a glimpse of hope as they paint a picture of the possibility
Starting point is 00:06:24 that Eleven returns and is better than ever. The optimist within me wants to believe so, and so I do. I believe that AJ Brown, aka 11, reunites with his Mike, Vrable, and there is a happy ending after all. Fans are still debating the future, but I believe Mike and Eleven find tremendous success together in their new home, whether it be New England or near three waterfalls. I must have missed the episode where Mike hooks up with the reporter at the school newspaper and sheets on his wife. Delete it. I feel like a pre-ed.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Yeah, deleted seed. My favorite part about doing these is we do these big, massive write-ups, and I'll look at, like, the comparison you did, like, A.J. Brown to 11, but I don't read any of the info. So that was so perfect. I love the comp. I felt like Stephen King at his prime, just, like, loaded up on drugs. I mean, I was sober, but, you know, how Stephen King must have felt loaded up on drugs writing it. That's how I felt writing that. The minute you start comparing fantasy football characters to, like, they're fancy football
Starting point is 00:07:23 characters, fancy football players to TV characters, you do feel like you're on drugs. Yeah, pretty much. I still feel like I am just talking about this, but I love. Literally, it's like a fever dream. If you're enjoying the video, please drop a like and hit that subscribe button. Starting point is 00:07:44 And that is Tyler Algear, who is Ken. Randall Roy from Succession. Just two guys who started their careers thinking they were going to have it all. Tyler Algier quickly becoming Atlanta's lead back in 2022. And Kendall Roy is the president of Waystar Royko in North America in season one of Succession. The thing that they have in common from the jump, really, is that they keep thinking they're going to get the job, but what they don't know is that they never will. Management clearly doesn't trust them to be the guy and in the words of Logan Roy, you are not serious people.
Starting point is 00:08:14 But the jokes on everyone when Tyler Algier moves to Arizona and Kendall Roy is finally in line to become the CEO of Waystar after his father's death. But as you can expect for both of our heroes here, they fall just short in the 11th hour. When Tyler Alger and Kendall Roy both realize they've fallen for it again, they scream, I am the eldest boy, clearly forgetting about Connor and James Connor, who's just sitting there in the running back room with him. So for me, I am selling Tyler Alger because I am not going to wait for him to get an opportunity. that the coaching staff after coaching staff has continued to tell us he will not get. You mentioned earlier, we see what the other person's talking about, but like, I don't read your notes.
Starting point is 00:08:53 And just seeing Tyler Al Jir, Ken Roy actually made me laugh out loud for like 30 seconds straight. And then he going through it now exceeded my expectations. He truly is Kendall Roy. And he's never getting his chance. Yeah, he's, he's Kendall Roy. He will never be more than just like a spot star RB2 or flex at best. It's just brutal. It's brutal.
Starting point is 00:09:16 All right. Give me your last guy. All right. I'm going to give you someone that it has been anything but brutal throughout his career because it is Patrick Mahomes I'm going to be talking about with debatably the greatest television show character ever, ever, or at least the most notable one, being Tony Soprano of the Sopranos. Tony Soprano ran New Jersey the way Patrick Mahomes has run the NFL. They both feel like the bad guys, but you are lying if you say you don't enjoy watching. them. Ooh. Sure, they both had some dysfunctional or controversial family members cause issues in the
Starting point is 00:09:48 past, but they can handle it, and they always seem to come out on top. Unfortunately, it hasn't always been easy, though. Just like Tony required therapy to fix his panic attacks, Mahomes is now going through his own physical therapy to repair his torn ACL. And just like Polly briefly got locked up and adversely affected Tony's operations, Rishi Rice very recently did the same for Patrick Mahomes. And just like Tony lost Carmelo in season four, Mahomes. Holmes and the Chiefs finally lost the division last season. So what lies ahead for the boss? Well, if you've ever seen The Sopranos, you know the ending is ambiguous.
Starting point is 00:10:23 I won't comment on my thoughts about Tony's fate, but you won't find me betting against Patrick Mahomes when everyone else starts doubting him. I obviously can't put words in Mahomes' mouth because he has no idea whatsoever who the hell I am, but I imagine his response to the naysayers and doubters would be similar to a very popular Tony Soprano quote, so I will finish with that. all due respect, you got no fucking idea what it's like to be number one. I have to imagine if you put those words in Patrick Mahomes' mouth, it would just be the same thing, but it sounded like Kermit.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Yeah, it's like Kermit the Frog impersonating Tony Soprano. Yeah, exactly. I actually had Tony Soprano was on my short list of guys that I wanted to figure out a comp for and I couldn't figure one out. And bravo, because Patrick Mahomes is the perfect Tony Soprano comp. I just wish he had more sex with people that weren't his wife than it would actually have been like the perfect. Yeah, they would have been flawless.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Maybe it is Mike Rable. On to our final guy, Joe Burrow is Carmi from the bear. Each of them is one of the most talented in the world at their craft. Before coming to this new team, they achieve greatness at the highest level. Joe Burrow winning the national championship at LSU, Carmi working for a three Michelin Star restaurant. The thing that makes both of them so great is also their greatest downfall, and that's the tunnel vision of being fully and totally locked in on that craft.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Both Carmi and Joe are haunted. by their past, the death of Carmis' brother Mikey and the death of Joe's Super Bowl 56 hopes. They each have some very talented pieces around them that they themselves have helped to develop in T. Higgins and Jamar Chase, or for Karmie, it's Marcus and Sydney. But they also have a group of people who want to help, but normally just end up complicating things in the FAC family and the entire Bengals defense. As for ownership, both have made the mistake of simply spending too much money listening to what Joe wants or what Karmie wants and now are up against the clock trying to either
Starting point is 00:12:10 save the restaurant or save this team before the Super Bowl window ends. They've both had moments where they've tried to make everybody believe that they're hanging it up and retiring, but just the way I feel about the bear is the way I feel about Joe Burrow, and I don't buy it. We're going to have a whole lot more years of Joe Burrow, and I buy that he is going to be a phenomenal fantasy football asset for years to come, and I think Carmi will eventually turn the bear into a Michelin Star restaurant. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:12:37 I'm going to deduct one point for not actually picking the Chicago bear. But besides that, pretty flawless there. And I'm with you on Joe Burrow. I think people get hung up on the injuries. And we forget how good he is when he is healthy, when he's playing, the type of situation he's in. So I like Joe Burrow in the long run as well. If you want somebody diabolically locked in Chicago, I'll change it to Ben Johnson, but that wasn't the exercise. No.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Honestly, Joe Burrow works perfectly fine here. I love it. Well, guys, let us know what you think about all six of our fantasy football, the TV character comps. and let us know down below if you have any of your own. A very quick episode, but the good thing is, we've got another brand new episode dropping in two days, so make sure to tune in for that. And Mello, do we miss anything on this one?
Starting point is 00:13:21 Nothing for me. All right, we'll catch you guys next episode.
