Many times the problems that we have in business and in our relationships are a reflection of the things that we have stuck in what I refer to as our emotional hard drive, Rudy.
And what's our emotional hard drive? It's the crap that we've had happen to us when we're kids.
These are the things that form us. So I know because my wife has told me that she's been cheating on me with a 15-year-old who was an employee of mine. My entire structure of my family has
disowned me. So I know I have patterns that keep me or can keep me from having more success.
My name is Rudy Moore, host of Living the Red Life podcast. I'm here to change the way you
see your life in your earpiece every single week. If you're ready to start living the red life,
ditch the blue pill, take the red pill, join me in Wonderland and change your life. Hello and welcome to another episode of Living
the Red Life. We have a fun episode planned today, a very interesting one and a very interesting
business model. So Gary, welcome to the show. How are you doing, buddy? Rudy, thanks for having me,
man. Looking forward to it. I think you got the the red life i think i got a little too much pink or purple over here but i got the purple life today so so look i want to dive in you you
know we became friends a few years ago we had lots of mutual friends and then one day you dm me like
hey do you want to come on my jet i'm like yeah sure why not right right yeah it's a great way to
to connect with other people so you know we're flying on your jet. You've got
a fascinating business model around your jet that we'll dive into in a minute. And obviously,
you've been an entrepreneur and been very successful for many years and, you know,
fortunate enough to be mentored by a billionaire, too, which I'm sure was part of your journey to
success and what you're doing now. But if anyone doesn't know who you are, do you want to just give
a quick kind of recap on who you are, how you got here, what you do?
Yeah, I appreciate that, Rudy. It's Gary Cox. I got an E at the end of my name, last name,
C-O-X-E. I'm author of several books. One is Don't Let Others Rent Space in Your Head. I think we
all need that. I started my entrepreneurial journey when I was about 11. My first business was 11.
My second at 15.
Shortly after that, making $100,000 a year.
Not to depress you, but things changed really, really bad after that.
I got married.
My wife and I, we had a baby.
Then later on, she tells me it wasn't mine.
My father was murdered.
Grandfather and stepfather died of cancer.
My uncle, like 10 miles from here was killed in a
plane crash all by the time i was 21 i was unfortunately born and raised in a cult i left
that about 15 or so years ago and when you leave that you're all your so-called friends and family
are programmed to shun you for life so that just changed everything put me 350 000 in debt
and i've learned the strategies to reprogram myself and other people. I've been
blessed to be on Dr. Phil's show for about three years, his show, The Doctors, where I show people
and I'm known for, and I don't say this arrogantly, Rudy, but I'm known for showing people how to
do in one hour what therapists or business consultants don't often get to do in a year,
because I know what it takes to really rewire the mind and show people how to play games with
their mind instead of their mind playing games with them. I love that. And we'll come back
to that a little later on. What about the cool business? I teased it. I teased the jet. Give a
minute of this business model because I do enjoy this every time we talk about it.
Cool. I'm an avid, obsessed aviation fan. I fly jets, helicopters, gliders. I'm an instructor and all that stuff. I just love this stuff. And I'm also originally from Jamaica, believe it or not. And I love the islands and I love helping people. So I'd always fly or I'd bring my own clients and we'd go to Sandals Resort.
Sandals has been my sponsor for like 20 years.
And what we do is we take everybody from Central Florida.
I take them in the jet and they have an entire day to pick my brain about, you know, the things that my billionaire mentor shared with me, the things I've learned along the way.
And we do everything for them.
I mean, we do everything from a dignitary police VIP escort. We have it so connected. You don't even go through the customs
building when we leave the country. So it's a really cool experience. And it's not about the
sizzle and the jet and so forth, Rudy, as you know, most people have never flown in a private jet or
get to do it regularly. And what happens is it's amazing to watch the light bulbs go on with
everybody when they come on this, because they realize, wait a minute, this is how I could live regularly.
But now I've got to figure out how do I move the pieces differently?
That's all it amounts to.
It amounts to doing things smarter, not harder.
And you think about the success that you're at now.
If you look back to it, could you have done it quicker?
Well, knowing what you know now, yes, you can. So there's always a smarter way to figure out what it is I got to do now to
get to the next level. And that's what so much of this is about. Yeah, a few things I love there.
First thing, I always say, you know, some of the best businesses and ventures are things where you
have a passion, you're like, how do I make money from this passion? Right? So that's why I mean, every, every time I start that jet, you know, I'm thinking, okay, how can I do this
more? How can I do this more? So and just like with you, you've got your passions, and it fuels
you. Yeah, yeah. And number two, I think something I teach a lot to in a different way is like,
you're always I always say you're always limited by your understanding of reality right and
that's true you're saying in a different way is like when they step on a jet it's like oh wow i
could actually ride on you know i it's like the four minute mile it's like hey i got on my first
jet and i bring it in right could i ride in a hundred percent and then when we're there with
them we give them the strategies to figure that out. And they start thinking more and right so if you want to you know
say riding on a private jet you you've got to like go you know for me a few years ago i was
traveling all over speaking and i was in economy or regular right and then i go okay i'm never
going to do this again made a commitment to only first and you know now i fly first and obviously
occasionally some stuff um and and i think at
some point in my career i'll buy a jet and then go the jet route right and i have lots of things
with jets um and everything is limited by your perception of reality right like you have no true
you probably make more money from having the jet than without it right and and a hundred percent
yeah and some of my other friends have jets and they they
sublease it and they get the tax write-offs and it's like hey actually it's more possible than
you ever thought possible when you understand it a little more and that's sometimes the sad
part of life is you've got to learn those things and have the right mentors oh true
so so next question talk about before life now right like i know that you know a big part of your
um life was being mentored by a billionaire that's pretty cool right pretty cool experience so how
did that come about what what are some of the biggest things you've learned from that
well i i think what happens you know there's so much junk out there in social media that people regurgitate and
regurgitate stuff that they regurgitated from somebody else. So one big one is, you know,
billionaires or not billionaires, but successful people don't watch TV. He has the news on all of
the time, everywhere he goes, he makes sure the news is on.
So he wants to know what's going on in the world.
He doesn't look at things and go, oh, that's so negative and terrible. He's strong enough to filter that stuff out.
And another thing that's so empowering to me that I've noticed, he has everybody do
everything for him other than what he is a master at.
So the problem with entrepreneurs, unfortunately, when we get started, is we often have a lot more time than money, as you well know, Rudy.
So what happens is because we have more time, what do we do?
We do everything ourselves.
Then we get into this mentality because we get to the ability of knowing how to do so many things that if you want it done right, do it yourself.
The worst thought process you can have as an entrepreneur.
So you have to learn to let go.
And then every time you get to the next level in your business,
your main focus should be when I get income in from this next level, what's my next move?
What's the next hat that I'm going to take off so I can do more of what I do the best?
And when you do that,
you make more. I remember years ago, I literally used a credit card to cash advance to hire an assistant because my assistant, having an assistant was so valuable to me because she's going to take
50% off the crap off my plate. So I can go focus on what I call IPA, income producing activity,
not the alcohol, the action. I like that.
These are things that are so important and it has to, you just can't get stuck in the
hamster wheel over and over.
You have to have a purpose.
What's the next move I'm going to make when this happens?
The next move is what's the next hat that I'm going to take off?
And your job should only be wearing two to maybe four hats. So right
now you might be wearing 20. Your next move is how do I take two off? How do I take two more off?
What do I need to do to take two off? Not to mention you'll make more, but man, you're going
to be just so much happier because it's going to improve your lifestyle. Yes. And, and, um, I did
become time obsessed. Like I, you know know the last two or three years i've had
free assistance right which might sound crazy but it's like oh that's smart yeah i just go how do i
how do i just optimize everything and i mean one tip for that is like you have to reinvent i've
learned to reinvent myself every six or twelve months so it's like you know i i hire the assistants i have the c-suite the team
but then six months later i i always re-challenge myself so i go okay now six months later how do i
now get rid of another layer of stuff right and then that's the top layer that can be filled with
even higher roi stuff six months out and it's kind of weird because once you've done that, like three or four times, what used to be your top layer, like your highest ROI at the bottom, you're delegating. And that's
how you're not crazy. Ultra millionaire or billionaire, right? It's just repeating the
cycle so many times. So I love that you saw that. And the new thing's fascinating to me because
I think when you get to that, and I've noticed this with like richard branson right who i get to hang out with a bit he's so fascinated with the world's at and part
of it for richard is because he he cares and he's got charity and the fixed world problems but a lot
of billionaires they're playing such a big chess game that the world is their chessboard right yeah
so i'm sure that you know that's why he's obsessed with the news is because
like what is his chessboard right so if there's a problem at the other side of the world it could
affect his companies you know right very true so so what about for you you know talk a little about
what are some of the other things you've done over you know i know you've been an entrepreneur
for many years um obviously now you're doing this but what have you done over, you know, I know you've been an entrepreneur for many years.
Obviously, now you're doing this, but what have you done over the course of your career? And what
have you learned personally? Well, I have got over 3000 speaking engagements under my belt. So
I actually do a program when I'm brought in to do keynotes where I reprogram somebody live on stage to show people
how quick we can rewire the way that we think without hypnosis. So I've enjoyed doing that.
And one thing I've learned is out of the 3000 or more speaking engagements, you know, people bring
me in to learn for me, but don't think for a moment that I'm not going to pick their brain
when I get to them because
I'm going to learn from them. You know, the thing is, is, you know, not some time ago, I had a,
I do a fair amount of work with billion dollar companies and they'll pay me like $25,000 an hour.
And people will ask me, what would a billion dollar company pay you to teach them? Here's
the answer to that. The answer is something
that they don't know, or they don't have somebody in their company effective at this time. That's it.
So the bottom line is, is you might have something right now that a billion dollar company would be
willing to pay you a large amount of money for not because they're stupid. I mean, don't ever
think because somebody or a company is making a billion dollars, they have all the answers. That's often why they're successful.
They're always seeking out consultants, coaches, advisors. And one thing I think I've learned more
than anything on all this, Rudy, is I still have advisors and consultants. In fact, I'm so blessed
that the advisor that I have is and was the advisor for my billionaire mentor before he passed.
So I get to reach out to him and say, hey, how would this be done when so-and-so did this?
How would this be done?
So always be in the mode of learning, learning, learning.
If I showed you the books, I've got one, two, three, four.
I do two to four books a month consistently. You're going to be valid based
on your knowledge and what you know and how you're able to implement that.
Love that. And talk a little about the rewiring the brain side, right? So someone's listening to
this because I also think that's very fascinating. Like I've always contemplated the more I can
rewire my brain to be more successful than I kind of am, the faster I'll get.
It's this weird philosophy I have.
And I'll just teach it in affirmations and the secret, some concept to that, right?
And I've gone down that fully.
This is kind of how I envision it.
So talk a little about that. Well, you know, a lot of times people think about
business success is a strategy in, you know, maybe asking more for the price or doing a better job
closing. But so much of a company's success is the top. All right. So whoever the top is,
what is your childhood like? In fact, you can look at a relationship, a husband and wife type of relationship
and the problems they have.
Many times the problems that we have in business
and in our relationships are a reflection
of the things that we have stuck
in what I refer to as our emotional hard drive, Rudy.
And what's our emotional hard drive?
It's the crap that we've had happen to us when we're kids.
These are the things that form us.
So I know because my wife has told me that she's been cheating on me with a 15-year-old who was an employee of mine.
My entire structure of my family has disowned me.
So I know I have patterns that keep me or can keep me from having more success.
So I'm consciously aware of what they are, and I'm always working on breaking them
and restructuring them.
And the thing is, if you're not aware of it
or don't care to be,
you can't change what you don't acknowledge.
So you've got to at least be at the point
where you're open-minded enough
to have enough humility to say,
okay, I got screwed up as a kid when this happened.
Great, let's not blame anybody on it right now,
but let's figure out what are the psychological patterns
that I'm still staying with that's keeping me from that next level. And it may
have nothing to do with closing the sale or increasing your price or hiring five more
assistants or 20 more salespeople. So, so vital to, to, to figure out. And that's, that's what
I love to do. And, and in that, and in an analysis or an assessment with somebody, I can figure a lot of those things out.
And I'm blessed to be able to figure them out on myself to figure out, okay, here's what I have to
change and what I have to do on a regular basis. So childhood has a lot to do with it.
Yeah, great. And let's talk a little now about, you know, that's great on the mindset side,
about the business a little more. I would love to,
you know, hear about your business ventures over the years, what you've learned, what's gone well,
what's not gone so well, and then maybe finish with like the finances on the jet side.
Yeah, no, I appreciate that.
A lot of fun.
I think one of the things that I've learned and it is kind of cliche, but people
have to really understand what never giving up really means.
Um, you know, and another thing too, is the reason people don't get to that next level
is they're not understanding what it means to make a quantum leap.
I'm getting ready to work on a presentation for 1,000 people.
And here's the question I was going to ask everybody in the audience.
And I'm going to tell the audience, I'm going to say, I'm going to ask you a question, but do not raise your hand right now because I know you're going to raise your hand.
But don't raise your hand.
Here's the question.
And for those of you listening, I want you to answer it rhetorically.
No, I don't even want you to answer it at all.
Just listen to it.
The question is, how many of you would like to make a quantum leap in your business? Everybody's going to say, well, I would, I don't even want you to answer it at all. Just listen to it. The question is, how many of you would like to make a quantum leap in your business?
Everybody's going to say, well, I would, I would.
But do we really know what a quantum leap is?
So now let me give you a definition of a quantum leap.
And then let's ask the question again.
So the question is, would you be willing or do you want to make a quantum leap in your
business?
What's a quantum leap?
A quantum leap is the ability to move when you're what?
Not ready.
That's the key.
So now if I asked you, are you willing to make a quantum leap in your business?
If you raise your hand, that means you're willing to make moves when you're not ready.
And the reason it's hard to make moves when we're not ready, because we're consumed by
limited thoughts.
We're consumed by fear.
We're consumed by doubt.
We're consumed like, what if this doesn't work? And when we learn how to create a pattern of moving when we're not ready, I know
for a fact I'm at where I'm at, wherever the heck that is. I know that there are specific moves I
made that I knew that I wasn't ready. And because of that, I figured it out, right? So sometimes
you got to learn to move when you're not ready, commit and figure it out
later.
Well, I think that's where a lot of times you have those biggest breakthroughs, right?
Like I, you know, I spoke to Grant was on, you know, this podcast a year ago.
And we're talking about for us both, our biggest breakthroughs in life have been when we physically
move location, you know like
i moved from america from england to america and then i've done several of those yeah and then i
moved from tampa to miami now more recently in the last half a year and every time my life's
changed for the better right and that's an example and then there's other examples where
you know i've pivoted my business and ironically, both big pivots in my business because of a big problem.
Right. Right. Right. But both times created a big breakthrough and change in a positive way for my life. Yeah. And, and, and obviously because of, you know, the level of you've been able to
work towards and attain, you now have created a pattern in doing that. And that's the key.
It's learned to create this pattern and, you know, it's, it's uncomfortable. Sometimes there's no
question about it. I mean, I don't care how successful person is when they make a move,
when they're not ready, there's going to be the questioning of things. And you've just got to learn to just stifle that crap. Because what happens is successful people will focus on the
outcome, right? More so than the limited stuff. We all have limited stuff coming in our heads.
But when you can suppress the outcome, whether it's real or not, but whether you can suppress
the outcome of the negative crap, that's when you win the game. And that enables you to move forward to get the results. Well, I mean, when you reach a certain level of success,
that's like never ending, like every pretty much every day, right? Like they're getting
called out in the media, and they're probably having contract disputes, and someone's not happy.
Even for me, we have about 100 staff, have about five companies and there's pretty much something
going wrong at every day at some point in some capacity right in one of those businesses oh i
shouldn't say going wrong just suboptimal that's frustrating you right like this is this staff
members not working this department's failing this kpi has been missed so yeah so you just learned
that that's like life of business right um but, what you said is important is the how you handle it part that separates the winners from the losers. That's what I've learned.
No question about that. I know things that some of my mentors, if they happen to the regular business owner, they'd quit or commit suicide. I am not exaggeratingating and i'm sure you know stories like that yourself same like you know when i that's why i love hanging out with some billionaires i
know because you know and there's one i won't mention but like when i one time spoke to him
and we were doing something together and then he banished for an hour came back and said sorry and
said he had to take the call and again it's confidential so i can't say what it was but this call would yeah this call was like about a problem that costs more money than 99
percent of us right in our life in our life exactly it's just like and then but he was back
an hour later and we went off and did stuff together right and i'm like uh in my head i'm
like how the hell did this guy like just go for an hour learn about this 200
million dollar problem right yep decision and then come back and we go off and have fun in the
afternoon it's just just crazy but seeing seeing that helps people like me and you right like
helps us level up right and that's the great thing of mentorship. Sure does. Reframes it for you. So look, just last couple of minutes, tell us about this fun business model now that you're
up to, right? That I think is just so fascinating. Yeah, on the Jet Mastermind, we do two business
models. One, if you're a coach and you have seven clients that you want to charge, we have a specific
fee to spend the day with me. And then
we supply the jet and we go to Sandals. It's the food, the lunch and so forth. So if, if a person
charges, you know, they want to charge $10,000, they can charge 10,000 ahead and make money on
that. And if you don't have enough experience, I'll show you how you can make an additional
five or six figures at the end of that event as well. So it's really cool. We supply video so you and your clients
can use that to elevate your branding,
which of course you know is so important,
but it's really a done for you.
And it gives them the opportunity
to hang with the JV, the joint venture coach,
whoever that is who brings their seven clients
and hang with me.
And I get to meet some incredible people.
And there are some people that, for example, maybe you're not that big yet and you know another coach, maybe the two of you could
come together. And every so often for those who do this, we actually throw in a $3,000
all-inclusive vacation package as a promotion to Sandals Resorts because Sandals has sponsored us
for over 20 years. And that's why we bring people to Sandals. So there's so much that we can show people how to do.
It's just, it's an incredible program.
It's a one full solid day that people never forget.
Just as much as I remember just about every little thing
that we did in the jet.
I remember it was rainy that day
and I know you remembered it and it was years ago.
We have people that literally post this
and they did this
with me like five years ago so the ripple effect for business huge huge everybody love that how
that's the last question how much do you think so the jet is often seen as an expense you turned it
into a profit how much do you think the jets made you oh i have it's it's it's definitely seven
figures i have no idea but it's it's a million
oh yeah oh for sure i've been doing this for decades like decades so so that's a great example
right like that's creativeness at its finest is how do you take something be creative and make
money from it i do love that and you know what's interesting real quickly i remember when i was
doing this because i've done i've shared the stage with Zig Ziglar and Steve Covey and all those, you know, Harvey McKay, all those people.
I remember the number one promoter in the world for speakers, the number one promoter.
He was a friend of mine, and I told him about this.
And this was 30 years ago.
So I'm the first guy who literally started doing this jet thing.
30 years ago, I got my type rating in the jet.
And the guy said, Gary, this is ridiculous.
No one is going to pay you to come with you on a jet and go to Sandals Resorts.
It's just not going to happen.
So I have a belief, and I'll wrap up with this belief.
The belief is this, and it's changed my life, and I've used it every single day.
When your feelings are not in harmony with your goals, ignore your feelings.
When your negative feelings are not in harmony with your goals. Ignore your feelings. When your negative feelings are not in harmony with your goals, ignore them.
When you have an emotion, positive or negative, you're going to do one of two things.
You're going to ignore it or reward it.
I chose to ignore those feelings and not listen to him.
And like within 30 days after that, I had the first one sold out.
And that was decades ago.
Good.
I love it.
We'll wrap that. where do people find you on
on instagram or wherever if they want to learn more yeah all my social media just hit the word
jet if you're interested in doing that or you can go to my website garycox.com that's g-a-r-y-c-o-x-e
