We're going to have our score predictions for West Virginia at Pitt this weekend.
One of my favorite games in college football.
I miss when it was a regular thing.
Now it's a semi-regular thing.
We're going to talk about the key matchups,
and I'm excited to get the insight here from Mountaineer Paul.
Let me say hello first to Kenton Gibbs and Kenton.
Get ready for a lot of animated and angry fans this weekend
because nothing brings out the rage like hate week between West Virginia and Pitt.
I hate to say this, but I'm going to say it.
I'm deeply disappointed that this isn't a rivalry week rivalry.
I'm deeply disappointed.
I don't think either one of these teams have bigger rivals than this game.
Like, do Pitt and Penn State even play each other on a regular basis?
No, you know, if you had to say, Mountaineer Paul,
if you had to say who West Virginia's biggest rival is outside of Pitt,
who would you say?
Virginia Tech.
Okay.
And how often do y'all play Virginia Tech?
Sim irregular.
It should be one of those games that also should be regular.
Honestly, but then you can't schedule two power fives every year.
But you see what I'm saying here?
Yeah, yeah.
We're talking about...
We would choose Pitt.
Exactly.
If you could get both of these teams to agree, hey, rivalry week every year, I want to play this team.
And it's, I don't know why either team wouldn't want to do that.
So I'm excited for it because I love, love, love some good old fashion.
Hey, and that's what these two teams bring.
They bring that fiddle.
They bring that spit and pins and eight.
They're ready to do it, baby.
And this rivalry, Paul, this goes back to eight.
The first time they faced one another in football.
I didn't even know they played football in 1895.
These teams are going at it back then.
And you, and I have not had the privilege of attending one of these games in person.
I don't think Kenton has either.
You've never attended a backyard brawl.
Paul, Paul has been to the backyard brawl.
What's it like?
And have you ever gotten into a fist fight at a backyard brawl?
Not only have I been to a backyard brawl, but I got to attend during the Golden West Virginia years.
There's two that really you can speak up.
We can go back to Major Harris in the 80s.
We played the National Championship game against Notre Dame and all that.
Or you can go to when we probably should have played in the national championship game in the mid-2000s.
The Pat White, Pat McAfee era, Owen Schmidt, Steve Slate, Dwell Devine, those teams.
And I got to go to a backyard ball during those years.
And obviously, West Virginia was dominated the series during that point in time.
So it was a great time to go.
it is we don't like each other as a people you know it's really it borders on just too far sometimes
we need these two fan bases and that's why we love it right you know i've already been trashed
holstein this week on my ex account um really not you know really not a big fan of his and uh
we're going to talk a little bit more about him but yeah certainly just it's all in good fun
but what a rivalry it is and we're really really not a big fan of his and we're really
really, really, really happy it's back. Can't explain it, you know, just how much this
rivalry meets to both. Well, and Kenton, let's start on the pit side. And, you know, Eli Holstein,
he's, he's had a good first couple of games. I mean, so far, so good for the Alabama transfer,
who's pulled in ACC rookie of the week honors for each of weeks one and week two. In the ACC,
he's thrown for over 300 yards. You know, Pittsburgh had a, a big,
come from behind with. They were down 21 against Cincinnati. And Holstein started off rough in that
game, Kenton, to the point where, you know, I know that maybe there was a thought in Narduzi's mind,
you know, maybe some pressure. Should I bench the kid now? kept him in there, allowed him to take
his lumps. And Pittsburgh pulled off the big comeback win in that game. And obviously, you know,
Desmond Reed at running back and catching passes out of the backfield has been a big part of
that as well for the Pitt Panthers. But let's talk about Pitt's hot start because they've been
Early on, one of the more pleasant surprises in the ACC, but then I also wonder, when you take a quarterback with very little experience, you throw him into this game.
Is this the time you want a red shirt freshman starting for you?
Well, it's not about it.
Is this the time you want a red shirt freshman starting for you and not?
It's about, hey, we're here and the red shirt freshman is the start.
You know what I mean?
Like, objectively speaking, this is going to be a rocket survival.
This is going to be an insane environment.
But you don't think a ban on transfer has seen a record.
environments in the band you don't think he's seen a little bit of craziness a little bit of tomfoolery
and shenanigans i get it right this is a true hatfields and mccoy's situation right we don't
know why we hate each other we hated each other since the beginning of the time i get all right
but when i look at this moment for holstein i think his biggest thing should be don't let the moment
because you are right
in that this is the biggest moment where he'll
be the decision. It's different
holding the clipboard watching
what's that young man's name
the letter they say or no young man
do his thing, right? Jalen Milro.
It's different watching Mill Road Cook and letting
him be the decision maker. It's going to be different.
But with that in mind, it's all about
not getting outside yourself.
That's the biggest thing for Holstein.
Can he stay composed?
Can he play within who he
is? And that ultimately
may be the difference in this game,
because I'll tell you what,
if he goes out and struggles like he did
against Cincinnati,
I'm not sure you can spot this West Virginia team,
20 points and feel like you're going to come back,
because they got some backs that are big.
They got some heavy lean on you guys.
You give them a 21-point lead,
and you'll just look up.
Is the game over?
Is it end that quick?
So, you know, I think hosting,
stay within yourself,
finds your guys, trust your guys, and his guys's got to make plays when he gets involved.
And how about the quarterback matchup from your point of view, Mountaineer Paul,
is you have a more long-in-the-tooth, Garrett Green, going up against Eli Holstein.
You mentioned on your ex-account you've not been so kind to Holstein this week.
So how do you see the quarterback matchup looking?
All in good fun, all in good fun.
You know, Holstein's a young kid and certainly look bad at times in the Cincinnati game.
He was three of 15 or 14 at one point time.
Don't have it sitting right in front of me.
But if you look at his numbers up into the third quarter,
you could make an argument should have been minced.
He goes 10 for 11 at the fourth quarter of that game,
which says a lot about the kid, Moxie, right?
But in Cincinnati, you know, so that's in my head.
That's how I have to think about it.
And I think this West Virginia team is ready for this rivalry game.
Garrett Green is one of all.
He had a top 10 all-time rushing season last year.
You know, over 700 yards, 13 touchdowns on the ground.
He's truly a true dynamic Lamar Jackson-esque type runner of the football.
He can do it.
But what he's got better at is throwing the football.
And unfortunately, his first test this year was Penn State.
And that's not an easy test for anybody's first test of any game.
We're so glad we're getting out of these Power 5 scheduling two,
Power 5 teams, non-conference every year because it's been tough to get started for these West Virginia
teams.
But one thing he has is this offensive line that we're so proud of led to power for rushing last
year.
That all is back.
Every single bit of that.
Both running backs are back from the number one rushing attack in the country last year.
We feel really good about that.
Three rushers that rush were over 700 yards back in the backfield.
It's really tough to prepare for.
Three freshman wide receivers last year are all back.
again this year in the starting lineup.
This offense has taken a step.
We're going to figure out how much of a step it's taken this week.
Wow.
Well, we're going to dive more into it because I want to go over key matchups when we come back.
And by the way, for those wondering, if you check your fan dual odds,
as I know you will, and I will.
West Virginia, they are favored by two points, minus two on the road.
So it's close, close line.
There must be some money coming in on pit because I was looking at minus two and a half
earlier this week. It's now Mountaineers minus two, but we got a lot to break down, my friends.
And we are simulcast right now. We're with Mountaineer Paul on Locked on West Virginia,
Alex Dono and Kenton Gibbs on Locked on ACC. We're only getting started. You want to keep it locked.

Alex Dono from Locked on Cains, Kenton Gibbs from Lockedon Wolfpack.
We are locked on ACC.
Crossing over with Locked on West Virginia,
Mountaineer Paul is here with us.
So, you know, Paul, first things first,
what do you think is the most important matchup in this game
that could decide whether the Mountaineers come out of Pittsburgh with a win?
I think there's two.
The West Virginia Offensive Line versus the pit front seven is going to be one.
And then the second one is going to be the back end of West Virginia who has to run in six.
Count them six.
Scream to me that you have a problem with the back end.
You go out and get six transfers and bring them in to your back end.
And that's what they're trying to figure out right now is who are our best guys in the secondary.
They had two really won jobs in training camp.
unfortunately, they didn't play well against Penn State or against Albany.
The four-star Wisconsin quarterback transfer at Albany, Burkett, threw for over 300 yards against West Virginia last week.
And trust me, they were burning them deep.
They had the Oregon transfer wide receiver, Seven McGee, absolutely burning them last week.
So this is an Albany team that absolutely shredded this defensive backfield last week.
So I am worried about the defensive backfield, as most are.
Can't tell you how worried we are about it.
But I do think it's alignment and assignment and not the athletes on the field.
That's the good part because if it's the athletes on the field,
if you just don't have the guys, you can't really fix that.
But in this case, it's really alignment assignment.
So that's what we're hoping gets fixed or simplifying it.
We're hearing all that.
So we'll see how it looks.
I think they're going to clamp down.
And luckily, they're playing against a freshman.
They're going to muddy the picture.
I really do think they're going to muddy the picture, too.
So we're hoping that happens.
But I do think ball control will be the main thing here.
We're going to control the clock.
Yeah, I mean, for me, Kenton, from a pit point of view,
I think a lot of this is going to be on Eli Holstein.
Does he have the time and the poise to exploit that West Virginia back end?
And like you stated earlier, if he starts the game,
the game the way he started against Cincinnati,
there's probably not a comeback to be had in the same way.
So I think having a redshirt freshman playing in this game for the first time,
I think is huge.
What do you think are going to be key or some of the key matchups?
Let me tell you something, okay?
I watched West Virginia play in preparation for this
because I'm not going to lie to you and say I've been a mountaineer watching the last few years.
And I had to wipe my eyes a little bit because I said,
is that Lindell White and Reggie Bush in the backfield for West Virginia?
They've got a good combination of flash and dash in the guys that they got running the ball.
And you know who I'm talking about with C.J. Donaldson and Jaheen White.
But it comes in with two bad boys of their own to stop them.
Those two Mike linebacks that they have in Brandon, George, and Keith Thompson are absolutely phenomenal.
And I know some people would say, well, you need to.
to talk about Braille and Lovelace or Kyle Lewis.
And I think that they're important too.
But there's something about that Mike and running back matchup that you know.
Those are going to be the guys that are on the field all the time.
You and me, one-on-one, mono-a-motto in the hole or in coverage that is going to decide this
game to me.
To me, I don't just worry, hey, is West Virginia going to cover on the back end?
I am asking myself, if West Virginia's offensive line looks good, but they do not
do a great job of climbing to the second level, right?
If they cannot get hands on these backers,
what does that look like?
Because West Virginia's got two linebackers that themselves average,
I believe it's like 6-2-2-35 apiece.
So, you know, they got some fellas themselves that can lay a little lumber.
I'm very intrigued because I think that this is going to be a little bit of a
throwback to that old-fashioned football.
And I'd love to see the backyard brawl actually look like
when football used to be a brawl playing and play.
way up.
Paul,
Paul,
something I wanted
to pick your
brain on
from the
Mountaineer's
side of it is,
is this,
is this a must
win game
in a lot of
ways?
Because if I look at it
from the pit side,
I can't say
it's not because
this is such,
this is such a big rivalry.
I don't think anyone
on the pit side
is going to feel good
about losing a
backyard brawl.
But at the same time,
we're talking about
a pit team that was
three and nine last year.
They're already just one
win away from
equaling last year's
win total.
I feel like the
expectation
higher for West Virginia.
West Virginia's already lost the game.
They didn't look particularly good
against Penn State week one.
So do you feel like the mountaineers have more pressure
and that this is probably more of a must-win game for their side?
1,000 percent.
This is a team that won nine games last year,
and they lost the game on a hell Mary as time expired.
They should have won 10 games last year.
You can make a case for 11.
They lost in the fourth quarter against Ollie Gordon
in a game against Oklahoma State.
They were ahead by 7 in.
So, you know, this is a really good.
football team that returned 84% of a nine-win team that probably could have won 10 games at least.
High expectations really understatement.
You know, this is a team that a lot of people picked to win the Big 12 as a dark horse,
similar to the Texas Tech team last year.
And the way we looked in that first game against Penn State was truly heartbreaking for a lot of us.
But we all know that that's not the be-all end-all in a football season.
We haven't given up on this team.
and that offensive line that we expect to come back to life,
has come back to life.
They've got a guy that hasn't a lot of sacking years on the left side,
and Wyatt Milam.
We're really excited about him.
But Neil Brown's tenure is really, it's weird.
You know, he hasn't won a big game on the road in his tenure in six years.
You know, you can't say that I can't look back over the course of six years
and truly say he's won a big game.
Now, this does, in my opinion, count as a,
what Penn State was, and that's a big game, a top 25 win, right?
So this is going to be a game that if he loses is going to do a way more damage than if he wins.
It's in the position if you win you were supposed to.
If you lose, it's an upset, and it's going to do way more harm than good for him.
And this is a guy that is firmly off the hot seat, even though he was on the hot seat,
but he's not far from the hot seat because expectations are so high this year.
everybody's you know not everybody but a lot of people are picking this team as a dark horse and the
expectation was eight to ten wins for this team that's just what it was so that's what we got to get to
you know kenton was i selling uh the panther short on my expectation uh you know how how much
pressure do you think is on is on pit to win this game especially after the season that narduzi
and company had last year there's always pressure in the rivalry i don't care if you're terrible
and your rival is good.
It's always pressure in a rivalry.
There is not a time where you look at a situation like this and say,
oh, yeah, it's okay.
You can lose to this team and everything will be behind.
I've seen, Donald, you and I have seen robberies that are so lopsided.
There's no shot.
There's no shot.
And then those and those only, is there like an excuse, right?
Is there like, hey, it's okay.
Georgia Tech doesn't get mad at losing to Georgia these days.
You know, they're not like, oh, we need to follow.
But every robbery where you're perceived to be on the same level,
yeah, damn right there's pressure.
It's a one-game season.
Exactly.
It's a one-game season.
And I'll tell you what, because of Pitt and West Virginia,
and how close they are and how things are in that world,
we've already talked about the fact neither one of these teams have a rival that comes
even close to this.
It's going to be 365 days.
Hey, remember that time we kicked our ass?
Hey, remember that time we shut up?
man, yeah, back in Hinesfield.
I don't care what they call it now.
His mama named with Hinesfield.
I'm going to call him Hinesfield.
Back in Hinesfield, when we went the wheels on your boys?
Oh, man, that was a great time.
Great time.
Anywho, how's the wife and kids?
You know, that's just kind of how that thing works out.
So regardless of what pressure you believe there to be on our dudes, you're not right?
We know he's the last ever coach to be a coastal coach to win an ACC championship.
We get it.
We know that that's big time and all that.
Kenny Pickett ain't walking through that door.
Jordan Addison, they walking through that door.
This is a different team.
You have to keep this momentum rolling.
And this game is going to be a very important stop in that
because when you look going forward,
they have a lot of winnable games after this.
But think about the difference between how your fan base feels,
going into the North Carolina game in a couple weeks,
at 4 and 0 versus 3 in 1 with a loss to your most bitter of rivals.
It has been a great 362 days, by the way,
from West Virginia.
That's how you know
he's a doubt. Because I
said 365, he said, actually,
we're a little short. We're a little short.
We owe the way. He counts. He knows.
He knows. Well, by the way,
we're going to get our predictions when we come back.
I want to mention because when I
checked Fandual before the show,
it was West Virginia
minus two. I check Fandul
just now during the show because I
basically have notifications anytime
a line changes. Kenton knows this about.
me. He's a degenerate. It's now West Virginia minus one and a half. Do the sharps know something? Are the
sharps bullish on the pit panthers? We'll give you our predictions when we come back. You want to
keep it locked right here, my friends. We're nowhere near done yet on this crossover event,
locked on ACC, locked on West Virginia. You want to keep it locked. And I already know you're keeping it
locked to Fandual. If you're like me, you're checking the odds 24 hours a day. You want to place a

Backyard brawl since 1895.
They're going to do it again this coming Saturday.
West Virginia is going to go for two in a row in this series.
Kenton again, like I was about ready to pick the mountaineers,
and then I see apparently money is moving the line in Pittsburgh's direct.
I mean, how many times have we covered this this season on Locked on ACC
that whenever the Sharps go in on a game like they did with Georgia Tech against Florida State,
They know something.
Yeah, they did the same thing last week with NC State and Tennessee as well.
The Sharp start moving things and all of a sudden, you know, I started to get a little concerned.
And I'm not going to lie.
We're going to go three for three riding with the Sharps here.
There's something.
I'm Mountaineer, Paul, you're my guy.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this episode.
I was going to pick West Virginia coming in, but you fucked me out of it, Paul.
You thought me out of it.
What do you mean?
You got a big win on the road in six years.
What's going on?
What's going?
That with the combination of the sharks.
Originally, I had this thing being 2320 West Virginia,
but I think I'm going to flip it.
I think I'm going to flip it over to the Panthers side.
2320 pit panthers pull out a really close one.
I'm riding with the sharks.
I'm sorry, Paul.
I got to break your heart, brother.
I've got to do it.
Real quick, but before I give Paul the final word with his pick,
I'm going to partially agree with Kenton.
I am going to have, I am going to have Pitt edging.
out a win here. I'm going to go 33 to 30. I think this game's going to go over the 60. I think it's
going to be a little bit higher scoring. And so, and honestly, for anyone, like, obviously, if you're
going to bet West Virginia, you know, you would probably want to bet the spread because the money line
is not going to look as well. Let me actually bring up the odds here on Fanduil, so I know exactly
what I'm looking at. So yeah, so if you want to bet, if you wanted to bet money line West Virginia,
it's minus 126.
If you think West Virginia is going to win,
you probably go minus one and a half on the spread,
where if you're going to bet Pitt,
you would want to go money line because it's such a small number now,
so plus 105.
So I'm going to go with Pitt to edge it out,
but I'm going to give Mountaineer Paul the final word.
Who wins?
What's your final score?
Well, West Virginia is just better in a few key areas.
They've got a way, but in my opinion,
much better offensive line,
and I don't think that's up for debate.
West Virginia has probably got the best offensive line
in the Big 12.
be debated. Best running back tandem, possibly in the Big 12, definitely a better quarterback in
this game. And those combination of those three things, I think puts West Virginia over the top.
The back end worries me, but I think they're going to be able to outscore pit if it comes to
that. I like the 3330. I'm with Kenton. I want it to feel like an old school backyard brawl.
So I'm going to meet in the middle of you guys, 29 to 26.
West Virginia on a walkoff.
That would feel really good during backyard brawl week
and possibly because who knows how the schedule is going to line up.
Maybe we just keep it to perpetuity.
I don't know.
But for now, at least until we figure out the schedule,
West Virginia wins the backyard brawl
and keeps those bragging racks for just another year.
Well, y'all heard it here first.
The better is going with the over, but me and Paul,
give me that under, baby.
Give me that under.
Give me a slug fest out there in Pittsburgh.
Well, and you know what I just realized the over also went up.
So actually my score would be a half point under.
So I was looking at around 60.
Now it's over under 63 and a half.
So I guess we're all going under technically.
I guess we're all taking that under.
Well, and here's something that should make Paul feel pretty good.
The last time Kenton and I did a crossover for an out-of-conference game,
he and I were on with the Locked-on Bandy host,
and we predicted a Virginia Tech blowout.
and Vandy beat Virginia Tech.
So Paul,
Paul, if that trend continues,
West Virginia is going to be in good shape this weekend.
Yeah,
at least,
but the one major thing is the expectations for Vandy
versus the expectations for us.
Hopefully,
we can live up to some expectations here
because we need this win.
We really do.
One and two,
and not to keep the show going to any longer than it needs to,
but if you look at the schedule for West Virginia coming up,
they've got five or six ranks,
ranked teams on the schedule over the next seven games, I think.
You've got Arizona, Kansas State, Iowa State, coming up, Oklahoma State, Kansas State.
Like, it's truly a murderer's rope for us.
This can't be much more than a must win than I can even consider.
Well, and also, Mountaineer Paul, you know, obviously people are watching this on your channel,
but for those watching on Lockdown ACC, you're brand new to this network.
You've only been on lockdown for a couple weeks, so let people know what they can find on Lockdown, West Virginia.
Yeah, love to cover the Mountaineers.
Love to cover the Big 12 as well when I can.
And even we'll branch out to some national stuff if in Winnick is able to.
But mostly this is a West Virginia channel.
We cover all sports, but mostly the major ones, basketball and football on both sides, women's as well.
So those are the major ones that we cover there.
love to talk West Virginia sports, and that's what we do.
I love it.
And of course, for those watching on Lockdown West Virginia,
if you ever want to hear Kenton and I make questionable predictions on games,
