Starting point is 00:00:01 I can't believe it, but the North Carolina Tar Heels just won their first ACC game under Bill Belichick, their first power for victory under Chapel Bill, and Fran Brown has not showered since September 20th. You are Locked on ACC, your daily podcast on the Atlantic Coast Conference. Part of the Locked on podcast network, your team every day. Shout out to the everydayers and thank you so much for making this live episode of Locked on A.C. your first listen. We're available free wherever you get your podcast. We're free on YouTube. We're part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. He is Kenton Gibbs, former NC State defensive linemen and co-host of Lockdown Wolfpack. It's y'all's homecoming game today, right, KG?
Starting point is 00:00:53 Yes, sir. I'm waiting. Actually, I'm not waiting. As soon as we leave this episode, I'm going to drink Donald. I'm joking. I'm not joking, everybody. I do so responsibly. Of course. Because even during homecoming, you know, be responsible, ladies and gentlemen. But if you see me at the Kappa Zayt, of Kappa Alpha Tide, Day, you didn't see me. That wasn't me. I got a twin. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:01:15 I love it. And a tough matchup, homecoming today for Ensi State, that's for sure, taking on Georgia Tech, number eight in the country. Hopefully you guys get it done. By the way, I'm Alex Dono from Locked on Cains, and today's episode is brought to you by Mazda. Like our players, we sweat every detail. because when you make every move count, pulling off the unexpected is only the beginning. Stay tuned later for highlights in this week's moving the game forward, Mazda, move and be moved. On this loaded pregame episode, we'll talk about a busy ACC Saturday slate, but Kenton, let's start with Friday night.
Starting point is 00:01:50 So the North Carolina Tar Heels, they were yet to win an ACC game or a Power 4 game with Bill Belichick. But the last couple weeks, they have been closer. Their games have come down to the wire. And they go into Syracuse, New York on Friday night. And you want to talk about a crisis at the quarterback position. So Steve Angelly has been injured Kenton for over a month. And Syracuse has not been able to win or move the football or score consistently with Ricky Collins. So Fran Brown, Fran Brown makes a decision.
Starting point is 00:02:26 And it's based on what he saw in practice, apparently. I'm not sure how closely he was watching practice. but he decides to give the start to freshman walk-on lacrosse player Joe Filarty, and Kenton Fulardi ends up throwing for a whopping 39 passing yards in this game off of four for 18. And I'm not going to say it was everything Syracuse did wrong. But, you know, North Carolina, again, I give them credit. Gio Lopez played an okay game last night. And the North Carolina Tar Heels, they win 27 to 10 at Syracuse.
Starting point is 00:02:59 where would you like to start with how bad Syracuse has been or with how, you know, how decent North Carolina has been in recent weeks and finally get their first win. Well, I want to say this about Syracuse. All in all, they weren't as bad. Watching that film, they were not as bad. Or watching that game rather in real time. I haven't watched the film yet.
Starting point is 00:03:17 But watching that game in real time, it didn't seem like they were as bad as everybody made them out to be. It's just you can't win with that type of quarterback play. No. You cannot win with the story of their quarterback. quarterback was about how good he was at lacrosse. I'm not kidding when I say this. I don't think their quarterback has started cash tech. I don't think he could have started a cash tech anytime in the last 10 years. That young man stink, stank, stunk. So, you know, I think that this is, this has been
Starting point is 00:03:45 a lesson for Fran Brown and the importance of a quality backup, which is so interesting because when you thought about him bringing in Steve Angelly, you said, well, everything was fine before you has Stephen Jelly. So, you know, it's good to have a really good quarterback battle going on. Now, we see why Trevor Panya left now. And the irony that Trevor Panya left one bad team to go to a team that turned out to be worse this year. The grass ain't greener on the other side is greener where y'all water it lays in. But it's just a true shame. It really is a true shame. And I look at this situation. And, you know, Fred Brown, he's got people walking around saying, Tate Diggs line from Best Man Holiday.
Starting point is 00:04:30 What is that smell? Because he has not washed up in quite some time. Winters get washed. He has not. That man ain't showered in so long. I'm pretty sure his armpits are growing fungus. They're growing little mushrooms under there. The last time Syracuse won't,
Starting point is 00:04:44 and Fran Brown famously said last year that he only showers after wins. Winners get washed, right? The last time Syracuse won a game, September 20th against Clemson. They're now five strikers. losses. September 20th. Now, listen, for the sake of Franz family, for his players, for his friends, for anyone he shares close quarters with in his office and in the Syracuse indoor facilities,
Starting point is 00:05:09 I hope he broke his own rule and took a shower at some point because that is just not fair to anyone who has to be near this man. The fact that your family and your executive assistant got to wear hazmat suits, your assistant coaches are sitting up here talking about, hey, coach, can we, can we have the meeting outside, please? If we have the coaches meetings, we could do fail outside on the projector. We can do it in the carrier dome. Lots of room in there.
Starting point is 00:05:36 They got to fumigate that man's house because he ain't won a football guy. That's tough. But on the flip side, credit to Bill Belichick, the offense, defense, everything, special teams, they played together. They played as a team. And they wore down Syracuse.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Over time, they just kept coming. They just kept coming. They just kept being the, they went up front on both sides of the ball, and you combine that with the fact that they couldn't complete a pass. Four for 18, and that was their entire. And he never brought Ricky Collins back into the game.
Starting point is 00:06:06 He said something about how it's like it wouldn't be fair to the rest of the guy. I mean, maybe completing more than four passes would have been fair to the rest of your team if you had brought Ricky Collins in. Yeah, this is one of those moments where, like, yeah, I don't understand it. I don't get it because I know that Ricky, Collins has not been good, but to put in a freshman lacrosse player, what are we doing here? I don't know what he saw in practice, but I've got faith in Fran Brown that he'll turn around next year.
Starting point is 00:06:37 And again, Syracuse fans should be happy. But Syracuse fans should be happy. This is the down year because Fran Brown might be there long, long, long term now. And for good reason, for a good reason, not meaning he's going to be bad for a while, but just meaning there may not be another cycle with this many attractive jobs that all pop open at once again for a decade or so. And I guarantee you you won't see that, Donnell, because look what's happening
Starting point is 00:07:01 to all of these coaches that are supposedly in consideration for all these jobs. All of them keep getting these massive extensions to where they're like, oh, you thought we weren't going to ice you out, buddy. We not let you go to Arkansas. You know, there's nothing to do
Starting point is 00:07:16 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. You like the Dallas-Fort Worth area, don't you rat? So, you know, it's a situation where I don't think that this down season will hurt Syracuse as much of people are pretending it will. Yeah, by the way, you speak of coaches getting contracts. Rhett Lashley just signed a big extension with SMU that's going to make him one of the top
Starting point is 00:07:38 10 highest paid coaches in college football. And listen, Jimmy Sexton is doing his thing out there because Coach Lashley is going to be coaching his SMU Mustangs against Miami at 12 noon today. He's doing a hell of a job at SMU. He's also an Arkansas alum, and that job is. open. And, you know, sure other jobs people have tried to link him to, but the Arkansas one was the big one that you would have maybe tried to link him to. But SMU is holding on to their coach. And also, you know, not directly ACC-related, but within the last couple of days, I think it was
Starting point is 00:08:09 on Friday, Matt Rule signed a big extension to stay at Nebraska, which, listen, I mean, that's, Matt Rule is such a mid-coach. This is just, this is great all around. Like, it's great for Penn State that they don't have to go out and get Matt Rule, even though he's an alum, but he might have been their top candidate. It's great for Matt Rule. He gets his money. I don't know if it's great for Nebraska, but hey, you got Matt Rule for as long as you want him for. And now, Kenton, I'm looking at for the Penn State opening. There's been some buzz just on the sports books in terms of betting odds on Jeff Brom to maybe take the Penn State job. Again, he's very happy at his alma mater, but maybe he does have that succession plan like you talked about
Starting point is 00:08:52 with his brother Brian Brom being on staff, and maybe if he does take another job, he can hand off the head coaching job to his brother. But Jeff Brom, like I saw yesterday, he's now the betting favorite for the Penn State job. And then I also saw a rumor, and I'm not sure if this has been completely substantiated, but a rumor that Penn State is planning to interview Brent Key in Georgia Tech's buy week, which I think is coming up next week. But again, like, I see your eyes get very wide. I'm not sure if it's true, because I see it being shared.
Starting point is 00:09:22 on Penn State message boards and from X accounts, but I've never seen it come from somebody who I'm like, yeah, that's a rock solid source. Brent, Braham, him leaving would surprise me, but it wouldn't be like earth-shattering. Key, key leaving Georgia Tech would be earth-shattering for me simply because of how that came about.
Starting point is 00:09:44 Brom was a proven product when he got to Louisville. He was such a proven product. There was no question. That was a slam dunk hire for Louisville. Hell, if he was on the market this year, and somebody was telling me, again, who would you want to be the next coach at NC State? It would have been, if you take Brown for back then,
Starting point is 00:10:03 he would have been my guy. He would have been my guy for the job. Yeah. Key, on the other hand, you came into that job as an interim and you have succeeded by a mile, and that's your alma mater, and you would abandon him. It's a cold world.
Starting point is 00:10:18 I can't see it. I don't think he would. I don't think it would. I think that he's a Georgia Tech lifer, and I think that he's going to give the ACC life with his teams for as long as he can. Because, again, he's a fantastic guy, great personality. I mean, he's the type of coach.
Starting point is 00:10:34 I liken him to the college version of Dan Campbell. He's a little bit wonky. He's very intense, but you want to run through a wall for that guy, man. I remember the first ACC media days he was at, I said, you won as many games in the back half of the season. as Georgia Tech had won in any season in the last four coming up. And the first thing he did was he looked at me and said, do you think that's good enough?
Starting point is 00:10:57 I said that. No, coach, I don't think it was good enough, coach. I think we need to be better, coach. I think we need to be better. So that's my time. He had you. If you had any eligibility left, you would have signed up. Hey, listen, I'm sorry, well, Pac Nation,
Starting point is 00:11:11 but I would have thought, the thought would have been there. It would have been there. So, you know, I think that he's a fantastic coach, and I think he's best suited for Georgia Tech. And I think the way that opportunity came about, he should be there. But again, that's who this. I guarantee you, Dono,
Starting point is 00:11:24 we would never see this many top 10 jobs open up again because some of these schools, they got to do the math. They got to do that. There's only so many great coaches to go around. There's only so many that we know are super winners to go around. And how many of those that could come out
Starting point is 00:11:40 would their schools say, we'll give you a blank check. Tell your agent, tell your agent, here's a blank, write the number. And we'll sign it. Yeah, well, when we come back, let's take a look at a busy Saturday slate that we're just, we're less than an hour, a little over an hour away from a lot of these games starting.
Starting point is 00:11:56 You've got some big noon games in the ACC, 10th ranked Miami at SMU. You know, Rhett Lashley's got a little extra money in the bank now and his team's going to be motivated. He's a former Miami assistant coach. There's a ton of former Miami players on SMU. That's a big one. Duke at Clemson at noon, Louisville at Virginia Tech at three. Notre Dame at Boston College at 330. Pitt at Stanford 330, 3.30, 345, Virginia at Cal. That's a sneaky good game.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Georgia Tech and NC State at 730 and Wake Forest, Florida State at 730. We also recap North Carolina, Syracuse, but we'll have picks and thoughts on the upcoming games when we come back. You want to keep it right here. We're only getting started on this live episode of Lockdown ACCC. Folks, this episode is brought to you by Mazda's moving the game forward. For those who believe it's not just about playing the game, it's about redefining it. There are moments that do more than put points on the board. They move crowds. They move culture and keep moving the game forward. I'll tell you, someone who's been moving the game forward all season long is Haynes King, quarterback Georgia Tech, had a tremendous performance last week. 395 total yards of total offense,
Starting point is 00:13:09 five touchdowns in Georgia Tech's 46 to 16 destruction of Syracuse, became only the fifth NCAA Division I FBS player since 1995 to record 300 passing yards. 90 rushing yards, three touchdown passes, two touchdown runs, and an 80% plus completion percentage in a single game. It's ridiculous. Haynes King is someone who I think is now finally getting into the Heisman conversation, and he absolutely deserves that because when you follow what moves you, the unexpected is only the beginning.
Starting point is 00:13:41 And just like there's more to every highlight, there's more to a Mazda vehicle. Mazda, move and be moved. Thank you so much for making Locked on ACC your first listen. For your next listen, check out our other shows. Kenton, Gibbs, and Grace and Boone host Locked on Wolfpack. Of course, a lot of coverage leading up to Wolfpack hosting Georgia Tech today. I'm rooting for you guys, Kenton. I'm rooting for some of these undefeated ACC teams tonight to take an L on their schedule.
Starting point is 00:14:12 I host Locked on Cains. I'll, of course, be all over Miami versus SMU before and afterwards today. That's going to be interesting. And let's start with that, Kenton, because that's coming up at 12 noon. Number 10, Miami, who had, you know, a bounce. bounceback performance last week and a 42 to 7 win against Stanford after suffering their first loss to Louisville the prior week. Miami's running game got going again to the tune of 199 yards. The defense gave up literally nothing after the first Stanford drive. They only gave up
Starting point is 00:14:42 70 total yards of offense after Stanford's opening touchdown drive. SMU is looking for their bounce back though today, Kenton, because they had their worst offensive performance of the season, actually a really good defensive performance that was wasted because they lose to Wake Forest last week, 13 to 12 on a game winning 50-yard field goal for Wake Forest on the CW. Miami's favored by double digits, about 10 and a half in this one, according to Fandual. How do you see Miami at SMU playing out? Dono, this game's got witch magic all over it. It's got witch magic all over. I want you to think about something right now. We call SMU Miami West. And they've got Miami coming to town.
Starting point is 00:15:26 This is their only hope, their only hope to stay in the ACC championship picture, which people have eliminated them from. Mathematically, they're still in the ball game. But they have to win this game. They have virtually zero room for error going forward. With that being said, a lot of folks can do a lot of things. A lot of magic can matter. But if I see number four and that old arm brace come up,
Starting point is 00:15:53 to the line of scrimmage. You know what I'm saying? Don't know. Oh, I know. I watch Ruben Bain very closely. Me and him may be brothers in bad hair lines, but let me tell you something. That young man is a different breed from me in terms of how he gets after offenses.
Starting point is 00:16:12 He has single-handedly ripped apart offenses, and he should be a Heisman candidate. I'm being very serious when I say that. If more people watch the film and base, who are in our nation, not Hyde McKendez off of that, he would be that guy. And with that in mind, I'm not sure if Red Lashley can scheme up a way to avoid a meaningfully enough to win this football game, especially when they know Miami has a little
Starting point is 00:16:35 bit more room for error, but still not much. Still not much. If they slip up in this one, they're going to need a ton of help as well. So I think I would say playoff is on the line for both games. I agree. Yeah, because, I mean, for SMU, it's a little more obvious because they can only get to the CFP by winning the ACC, that's their only path, right? Whereas Miami could even not play in the ACC championship game and still get in. But if they go 10 and 2, I think Miami has to go 11.
Starting point is 00:17:05 And when you talk about how like the witchcraft or whatever, you know, SMU, as you mentioned, they got a lot of Miami connections. I might even be leaving a few out. But, you know, Ret Lashley, their head coach, former Miami offensive coordinator, Derek King, their quarterbacks coached former Miami quarterback. They actually have Rubin Bain's brother Reggie Bain on their coaching staff. And they've got, and Kenton, how about this? SMU's four team captains tonight, or today, I should say, it's at noon. Their four team captains are four former Miami players, including Tyler Van Dyke,
Starting point is 00:17:38 quarterback, he's not even going to play. Like, he's behind Kevin Jennings holding a clipboard. They made him a captain. Offensive lineman Zion Nelson, who's like 35 years old. This guy's had like more injury red shirts than Miami's former, former tight end, Cam McCormick who played in nine seasons. But then the couple guys who do play Chris Johnson running back and Romello Brinson and receiver.
Starting point is 00:18:00 So all four of their captains are former Miami players, which is a little bit of a troll job. But I like it. Like I respect it. They're trying to, you know, they're trying to get their team motivated by having the four former Miami guys. Now, in terms of, you know, what the teams have to do to win this game, you know, from a Miami point of view, you have to exploit SMU's weak passing defense. defense. SMU has some of the weirdest statistics defensively, Kenton, because they are near the top
Starting point is 00:18:28 of the entire country in takeaways. They have 12 interceptions and eight fumble recoveries on the season. So their defensive backs can catch footballs apparently, but they can't cover. They are 133rd nationally in passing defense. They give up over 304 passing yards per game. So Carson Beck, Malachi, Tony, and company need to exploit that without committing turnovers, but SMU is very good against the run. And you know, Miami likes to establish their power running game, and I don't think that identity is ever going to change, but it will not be easy because the Mustangs are top 10 against the run nationally. They're also, I think, top 10 nationally in sacks. They've produced 25 sacks on the season. So there are tricky challenges for Miami,
Starting point is 00:19:12 but you should be able to throw on this team because everybody else has been able to do that. And then for the Mustangs offensively, of course, like getting something going against Miami's defense is key. And it will be difficult, Kenton, because Kevin Jennings, he still has tremendous arm talent. So that has not been affected. But with a lower body injury, he's been nursing for several weeks. It's limited his mobility. So he's normally one of the top dual threat guys you're going to face. He may be more, you know, one dimensional than he would be if he was completely healthy.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Absolutely. Absolutely. SMU has a lot of injuries offensively outside of Kevin Jennings that are limiting them at the moment. And I look at this thing and I say, okay, you need, beating Miami this year is not easy, period. This is not something that you can sleepwalk your way through.
Starting point is 00:19:58 You're going to need to empty the chamber red lastly. Don't leave any stone unturned, any play that works unturned, because this Miami team, you know, everybody says, oh, Louisville gave you. They gave you the blueprint. Yeah, the blueprint is run a bunch of, plays they've never seen before and hope that Carson Beck has the worst game of his career. Great blueprint, guys.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Great blueprint. The blueprint is hope they commit nine penalties and throw four interceptions and you're going to win. Come on, Dono. It's easy. Can't you do it? It's like Michael Jordan and LeBron Jay is doing the 360 through the legs and says, if you want to be one of the best basketball players in all time, do be able to do this
Starting point is 00:20:37 at age 38. What's the problem, guys? You know, it's just foolishness. So I really do look at this team. and I say, if you're looking at SMU offensively, they need to make do with what they've got. And defensively, they're gamblers. They're gamblers.
Starting point is 00:20:53 That's who they are. They're going to take that risk. They're going to take that risk to say, you know what? We're jumping on everything because our pass rush will get home right away. The problem is if that doesn't happen, Mr. Double Move is waiting on you. And if you're coming like that, downhill, no frills,
Starting point is 00:21:08 who's back there to cover when you bite on that double move? Mr. Andy Air. He's always there, but he's never made a tackle. You know, it'll be waiting right there and said, oh, no, he caught the ball. Look at Tony. Oh, it's so unfortunate. So, yeah, I think that this game will come down to. If I had to pick one matchup to say this game will come down to very seriously, it's not
Starting point is 00:21:28 Miami's defensive line. It's Miami's offensive line and how well they handled SMU in this game. Because outside of that, I think that we all know Miami's wide receivers have a definitive advantage over SMU's defensive backs. I think that we can all agree that. there is not much to be said in most of these other, in most of these other areas, but that matchup right there could change the game. Yeah, by the way, one of Miami's top receivers is a game time decision, C.J. Daniels.
Starting point is 00:21:59 Malachi Tony is completely healthy, and our guy, SP, says Malley is going to go nuts today. He's gone nuts on pretty much everybody he's faced so far. But is C.J. Daniels going to start and play. We're going to find out, I guess, at kickoff. So that's a big question today. The other noon game today on the slate, Kenton, is a good one. I'm definitely going to have a multi-screen experience today. The Duke Blue Devils are three and a half point underdogs at the Clemson Tigers.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Clemson has lost their last two home ACC games. The last home game that they won was against Troy. I think they've only won one home game all season, if I'm not wrong. And listen, Duke has a good football team, Kenton. I think the wrong team is favored here. I think Duke is going to go in to Clemson, South Carolina at noon and come away with a dub. We only have one coach that's coaching for a job here, and he's not even coached for his job. He's coaching for his next job.
Starting point is 00:22:55 Manny Diaz is coaching to put on a show saying, hey, you see all these coaches signing extensions? Guess who ain't getting extended? Me. Guess who ain't committed to this university long term? Me. Guess who I'm sure they said, many, come on. Come on this newspaper. We got a piece of paper for you.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Sign a piece paper. He might be the only option left for Penn State. Like there's nobody else. Nobody else left for them to hire. Let me tell you something. And Mani Diaz, if he goes off and wins this game, you can book it, Dono. I guarantee it. As sure as the Sun Rides on the East and Sesson, the West.
Starting point is 00:23:29 If they win this game, he moves on next year. And guess what? I believe he's moving on next year. So I've got Duke winning a game that I don't think will be close. I think they'll win by 10. I think 34-24 duke in this game because I think Clemson is packed it up. As much as people are saying, oh, they look like they're returning to form. A locked-on ACC all-star team could beat Boston College or UNC, okay?
Starting point is 00:23:57 Yeah. I'm just saying. I think Spencer McLaughlin. We're Syracuse at this point. I think Syracuse is the worst team in the ACC right now. Hello. Without Angelie. Yeah, I think they're the worst.
Starting point is 00:24:05 Listen, I think Mr. Locke himself would go off for about 150 yards of other games. Good buck 50 on Boston College right now. Okay. So, you know, I think that this is a situation where at the end of the day, Clemson has kind of packed it in and folded up because their season expectations from every regard are done. Playoffs, done, ACC championship, done. Everything is done.
Starting point is 00:24:28 Everything is done. That team ain't playing like a team right now. I think it's over. I think Duke goes ahead and wins this one. And they're bleeding recruits too. I mean, Miami took one of their guys, defensive lineman Kishon Stansel took him out of their class, one of their top safety commits, decommitted, 2026 Blake Stewart. That's another one Miami is after. So it's,
Starting point is 00:24:49 it smelled blood in the water. Things are not, again, I don't think Dabo's going to get fired this year or anytime soon, but you know, things are going in the wrong direction for him in a big, big way. All right, we'll do, we'll do game picks for the rest of the Saturday ACC slate when we come back. Kenton Gibbs from Lockdown Wolfpack is here. I am Alex Dono from Lockdown Keynes. We'll put in our official predictions for the two games we just talked about as well with scores. You want to keep it locked right here. We're not done yet on this brand new live episode of Locked on ECC. Saturday is here, and it's my favorite day of the week. And it's time to look back and crown this week's MVP on Who Delivered? Powered by DoorDash.
Starting point is 00:25:28 Just like you can win every Saturday with DoorDash streaks, saving more every time you order, these players delivered when it mattered most. Let's break it down. I never would have thought I'd be giving our Player of the Week award to a North Carolina tar heel based on the way they started their season, but here we are. Gio Lopez, let me give the man some love. He just discovered the forward past last night. North Carolina's starting quarterback, 15 for 19, 216 yards, two touchdown, zero interceptions, far and away his best and probably his only decent performance of the season so far. And UNC gets their first conference win of the season, their first powerful win under Bill Belichick. No hesitation, no delay from Gio Lopez on Friday.
Starting point is 00:26:13 night. And just like Gio delivered for the tar heels, DoorDash delivers your Saturdays. With DoorDash streaks, you can save every time you order, every Saturday you order, stacking it up all season, and you could save up to $250, including $100 in DoorDash credits. Order this Saturday. Keep the streak alive. Fuel your game day only with DoorDash. Terms apply, and the promo period runs through November 18th. Folks, we're also proudly brought to you by FanDuel, and we're going to look at our picks against the spread coming up. The NBA is back. All right, so Kenton, I think we already indicated which teams we think are going to win the two noon games.
Starting point is 00:27:27 So let's give our scores. I'm going 10th rank Miami. I've got Miami beating SMU 28 to 14. So I'm going with a relatively low scoring game, but I think Miami will cover the 10.5 point spread. What's your score for Miami at SMU? So Kevin Jenner, this offense is a little too banged up. Miami, still on that revenge tour, got to get it done type of vibe. But Red Lashley does empty the clip in this one.
Starting point is 00:27:54 I just think Miami hangs on. I think they start off with a big lead and they hang on in this one. I'm going to say 24, 21, Miami. It would be thrilling. You'd make me sweat a little bit more in that scenario, but a win is a win. Miami's made me sweat several times already this year, so I'm used to it. What about Duke? Duke at Clemson.
Starting point is 00:28:13 I'm going to go, I'm going to go Blue Devils. Man, it's hard. What's Clemson's defense going to look like? Is Duke going to stay turnover? I definitely got Duke winning. I'm going to go Duke 27-24. I think it's going to be a close game, but a dub on the road. I think Duke puts this game away early and puts Clemson out their misery.
Starting point is 00:28:33 34-24, Blue Devils. I like it. Conviction. Death Valley sounds like a funeral today. I'm just saying. That's what it's going to sound like. Hey, hey. Hey, the funeral and death valley this afternoon.
Starting point is 00:28:44 Three o'clock, you've got 16th ranked Louisville at Virginia Tech. Louisville, 10.5 point favorites on the road. You know, Virginia Tech surprised me a little bit with a home victory against Cal. This one's an afternoon game, not a night game. I think Louisville's going to roll. I've got the cards, the birds, whatever you want to call them. I'm going to go Louisville 34, Virginia Tech 17. I think they're going to cover that spread.
Starting point is 00:29:09 No, no, remember when I said Louisville plays one game every year where they forget how to play football? Oh, you think that's today? Everybody thought it was against Virginia. Yeah. I think it happens today. But here's the thing. I think they have enough talent to put away Virginia Tech despite that. I think they win, but I think they don't cover.
Starting point is 00:29:30 I think this ends up being much more high scoring than it should be. Give me Louisville 3128. 3.30 p.m. This is only, this is not an ACC game directly, but 12th ranked Notre Dame at Boston College. You know, Notre Dame, you talk about a team that probably needs to win out to be in the college football playoff. They're five and two. I think they need to go 10 and two to be in the CFP. They are so much better than Boston College in every way a matchable.
Starting point is 00:29:56 That's why Notre Dame is favored by 30 and a half points. I'm going to say Boston College covers and loses by just four touchdowns, because I tend to take underdogs in 30 plus, you know, points. situations, although Miami did cover 30 against Stanford last week. But I think Boston College is going to keep this close enough where they cover the spread, but they still lose by four scores. I'm going to go Notre Dame 42 to 14. This Boston College team cannot score and cannot stop teams from scoring.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln? This is going to be a demolishing of this team. But Coach Freeman is a nice guy. I think they win by about 39 points. Give me 49, 10, Notre Dame. Okay, all right. All right, I'll keep it rolling here. 3.30, you've got Pittsburgh at Stanford.
Starting point is 00:30:54 You know, Pitt, they got their defense humming. The freshman quarterback, Mason Heinzel, has been a revelation. For whatever reason, Pitt does really well with young quarterbacks. And then when they get to be sophomores, they replace them with another freshman. We'll enjoy the Mation Heinzscheel experience while we can, Kenton. But who do you got in this one? I'm going. I'm going Pitt winning at Stanford.
Starting point is 00:31:18 Pitts favored by 13 and a half points. I'm going to go, I'm going to go pit 3113. I think they win and cover. I think the only interesting thing about this game is the fact that Frank Reich is now the betting favorite to be Stanford's long-term coach. That's right. That's the only thing that's interesting about this game. With that being said, I think Frank Reich and the boys do not get it done in this one. No.
Starting point is 00:31:43 With all the respect, I think that, you know, like you said, PIC keeps making those blood sacrifices to keep their freshmen being great. They just got to sacrifice the quarterback before that he has to give his title into the orb that goes into the freshman. But Heinzsche, Reed, and company, get it done in this. The sharks are phenomenal. The sharks are phenomenal, and they're going to be able to handle Stanford's running game, which is the, that's the crux of beating Stamper. If you can stop Stamber from running the ball, you'll be fine, which I think they can.
Starting point is 00:32:11 I think they'll be okay in this one. Yeah, that is a cool story about Frank Reich because when he took that job, it was like under the explicit condition of like, I don't want to do this for more than a year. I'm just helping out my buddy Andrew Luck so they can conduct a proper coaching search. But maybe Frank is it, they're going to make a Disney movie about this Kenton someday. It's like, you remember when Gordon Bombay took over the district five, Hockey team. He didn't want to be there. It's a mandatory community service.
Starting point is 00:32:39 The guy had a DUI. He didn't want to be there, but then they won over Gordon Bombay's heart. And I think the Stanford Cardinal, they're winning over Frank Reich's heart week after week, and he may want to do that job permanently. So I think it would be really cool if he ends up wanting
Starting point is 00:32:55 to do that gig for real. And also, like, again, with all the other coaching vacancies open, it's a little harder for Stanford to find somebody else. So maybe you love the one you're with is what you're going to do. I'm going to tell you. I'm going to tell you, I think Kerwin Bell puts on his bet, or I'm sorry, Bill, Kerwin Bell's son, the baby Bell is the, the AC is the offensive coordinator. I think he puts on a show and tries to, you know, let other
Starting point is 00:33:21 teams know, hey, y'all, I know it's only been a year, but I've done good things everywhere I've been. I think they win this to 3420. Okay. All right. So let's go on to 15th rank, Virginia, at Cal, but it's not a late-night game. 3.35 p.m. Eastern Times. It's 12.45 p.m. there locally. Man, I know a lot of people are, and maybe you will. I don't think I'm going to. It's like the trendy upset pick of the week is Cal to win because, you know,
Starting point is 00:33:52 Virginia, all these overtime games, all these close games, some fortunate performances. People are just like waiting for the other shoe to drop out of Cinderella. I don't think it's going to be today. Virginia's favored by five and a half. points. I think they win this game by a touchdown. Maybe they win it in a. You know what, I'm going to pick another overtime game. I'm going to go 21, 14 UVA and OT. You know what? I'm going to tell you, Donno. I've got a very similar thing happening. I think J.K.S. and Chandler Morris go
Starting point is 00:34:20 band for band. And I think that that that secret of special horseshoe that Tony Elliott has had this year saves them once again. It saved one more time. I'm going to say 30 to 27. Virginia. And I'll say it's either going to be a game winner, game winner field goal, or an overtime field goal that gets them over the top. I can see it. All right, two more games. This one is near and dear to your heart. NC State Wolfpack homecoming tonight 7.30 p.m. hosting number eight Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech undefeated, 8-0 overall, 5-0 in conference. I need that NC State defense to do a little something. Just make a couple stops tonight, Kent.
Starting point is 00:35:03 Just make a couple of stops, maybe force some fumbles. You know, maybe our guy Haynes King is riding pretty high after a historic weekend against Syracuse last week. I've got Georgia Tech winning. I'm going to go, just based on UNC State's defense, I'm going to go like 41, 31. I'm going to go high scoring game. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:35:25 Dono, there's a reason. And when I say there's a reason, I very seriously mean there's a reason why I started off this episode saying it's homecoming and I'm fin a drink. I got to cover this game. You understand? So I got to be there and sober at 7.30. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. But there is not a snowball's chance in the devil's home that we.
Starting point is 00:35:48 are going or that NC State is going to win this football game. And let me tell you why, Georgia Tech has three of the top 13 rushers in the conference. Now, while NC State has been very good at stopping a run this year, we also haven't played a ton of very good teams in terms of running the ball this year. And when we have, it has been ugly. It has been a nightmare. We made Duke's running game look like they had a post. And we started the streak of Duke not turning over the ball for three straight games.
Starting point is 00:36:18 We are offenses get right game, and I hate that for us. So with that being said, Georgia Tech gets this one done handily. I believe the pick that I made on Locked on ACC was 2717 or 3717, one of those two. I just don't know if you guys are holding them under 40 is what? Hey, listen, I'm not mad at it, Dono. I'm not mad at it. I promise you, this has been the defensive backplay is some of the most strange. I've never seen a quarterback hit a post against cover three
Starting point is 00:36:52 with its soft cover three when your DBs are playing seven yards off. How the hell do you let a young man beat you to a spot that is 35 yards downfield when you have a seven yard advantage, Dono. I'll tell you how you play for the Wolfpack this year. That's how you do it. That's how you do it. So as much as SP1, I want to believe you right. I want to believe you're right.
Starting point is 00:37:15 Well, they get, it's like SP1, he's a Miami guy like me. So he wants, he just wants Georgia Tech to lose. Okay. Okay. That's why. All right. Hey, listen, Chops, I want you to be right too, said there won't be any more undefeated teams of the ACCC after that.
Starting point is 00:37:28 I want you to be right, brother. I want you to be right. And he's a Louisville fan who wants a clearer path into the ACC championship game, is why he's saying that. If this game is close, I will tweet the Hawkeye meme, but don't do that. Don't give me hope in the third quarter, but I don't think it will be. All right. Last game of the weekend.
Starting point is 00:37:45 Florida State Seminoles coming off of four straight defeats are 10.5 point favorites against Wake Forest, who just pulled off nice upset against SMU last week. Florida State favored by 10.5. Wrong team favored. Now, this is not a question of talent. This is not a question of one team's jimmies and Joe's lining up against the other teams jimmy's and joes.
Starting point is 00:38:12 This, to me, is a question of buy-in. This to me is a question of culture. This to me is a question of which team is spiraling versus which team, even though they have far less talent, they're playing together and coming into this game with some momentum. After all of these losses for the Seminoles, and it doesn't sound to me like Mike Norvell is hitting the right notes with everything he's saying. Now, of course, we don't have access to practices. We don't know what's going on behind closed doors. but sounds to me like a lot of excuse-making
Starting point is 00:38:44 and a lot of accepting a lower standard that should not be the standard of Florida State football. I think Wake Forest is going to go in there and pull it off. I think they're going to win a low-scoring game. I'm going to go 17-13 Demon Deacons. Donnell, I don't know where people are getting this information from that Florida State should be favored in this game. Quick question.
Starting point is 00:39:08 If I tell you one of these teams has not won a conference game, game in a full calendar year and the other is five and two. And the one that is five and two is the underdog. Would you believe me, Dono? No, I would not. Oh, okay. All right. I don't get it.
Starting point is 00:39:25 I'm not joking when I say, like, people can make the argument of, oh, they've beaten horrible teams, you know, Wake has only beaten horrible teams. If the referees knew what encroachment and off sides were in the eight, they would be six and one with a win over 18 that is now in the top 10. Right. I'm telling you right now, we're going to be sitting here saying, Don knows lose. We're going to be hitting that note at the end of this game.
Starting point is 00:39:57 We're going to see a lot of Miami fans. Don't knows lose, ladies and gentlemen. Because this game, I don't see the nose with a path of victory here. That's a team that's, they've gotten their clothes folded with their, with them in it plenty of times this year, and they folded on this season. I think Wake Forest wins a rock fight, just like you said. I think it'll be 16, 14. I think it'll be a really low-scoring game,
Starting point is 00:40:20 and I think Florida State's going to have a chance, quote-unquote, till the end, but I think we see a wide right situation. It's just like Florida State has looked progressively worse after every loss. So the trend is there. So we appreciate everybody on Game Day. Hopefully, if you're a YouTube TV subscriber like myself, You found another option, as I've had to do today, because I can't go without my college football on all those different ESPN and ABC families of network.
