Now, Kenton may try to dispute this, but I think it's clear.
As far as the ACC is concerned, the Miami Hurricanes have won the transfer portal.

On this loaded episode, we'll talk about something that ACC administrators are more than likely going to approve
in the upcoming ACC spring meetings in Florida,
and that is shortening the basketball schedule,
at least the conference schedule,
and why that might not be such a good idea.
There is an update.
Kenton, you know, we hate to do this,
but there is an update on Bill Belichick and the girlfriend.
But I wouldn't say this one is so much of a TMZ update.
This is more of a professional update.
Would you be okay if we revisit the Belichick topic today?
I mean, it seems like we got to,
So let's get into it.
Let's talk about the news development because apparently Belichick is a listener at his show.
He's a fan of the show.
He's a friend of the show apparently.
So, you know, proceed.
Well, before we get into that, would you disagree, Kenton?
And I know they haven't landed all of their targets, right?
Like Miami was after safety, A.J. Halsey out of Houston, he ends up choosing LSU over the weekend.
There have been some misses.
But at the end of the day, Miami Hurricanes, according to 24-7,
Sports have not only the top transfer portal class in the ACC, that includes the winter and spring additions.
But if you go by the amount of four-star plus transfers, and this is according to the 24-7 rankings,
four-star plus transfers in versus four-stars out, Miami has a net of plus six four-star players.
They brought in eight, they lost two.
and then the next on that list behind Miami is North Carolina with a four star net of plus three,
Florida State with a plus two and so on.
So you could argue, Kenton, quantity versus quality.
Miami had the best transfer portal class in the ACC.
Do you agree or do you want to shoot me down?
I mean, if we're talking strictly portal class,
I don't think that there's a world in which you can disagree with Miami winning the portal.
Now, if you're saying, do you believe Miami has the best roster going in the next season?
that's a different conversation.
I think that's a very, very different conversation to have.
But in terms of who got better by the most, because of the portal, I don't see a world
where you can seriously argue for anybody else unless the three guys that went to Clemson
all become all conference next year and all American guys next year.
You're not going to see that.
You know what I mean?
Unless Joe Aditerer and company who transferred in the NC State, again, all of those guys
become superstars and everybody turns without flops,
I don't think there's a world where you can seriously say,
oh, this team did better than Miami in the portal.
And even with,
even if you were making the argument for Florida State by saying,
well, you know, Florida State got rid of a lot of bad,
you know, bad juju in the locker room with a lot of the players that left,
sure, but a lot of that bad juju came with some of your statistical leaders.
So it's not easy to say,
say, oh, yeah, that player and their, that player and their production won't be missed in any way, shape, form, or fashion.
I think that that be, you know, being dishonest to say the least.
So, again, I think if you're being serious about this and if you're being objective about it,
there's not a way that you can say Miami didn't win the portal unless, again, you believe that all of the players they got out of the portal,
complete another trash, and the two that they lost are going to be superstars elsewhere.
Well, I'll take a look quickly at who Miami brought in.
They've got a transfer portal class of 17 between the January windows and the April windows to this point.
So they added Tennessee safety Jacobi Thomas, who I think is going to be a starter.
Kamal Bonner, linebacker from NC State.
I think he's going to compete, not necessarily a starter, a player you know very well.
I think it's going to be an important part of the rotation, but maybe he won't start.
Keelan Marion, wide receiver from BYU, not sure if he's a starter.
Same thing with Tony Johnson, wide receiver from Cincinnati,
but I think that they'll both be contributors.
Kicker, Bert Auburn, or from Texas, I think he will be the starting kicker.
Chimar Brown running back from North Dakota State.
I don't think will be a starter, but Miami's got a really good running back room between Brown,
who won the Jerry Rice Award at North Dakota State last year,
and Jordan Lyle and Mark Fletcher,
I think that's going to be a really good three-man rotation.
Carson Beck, obviously, will be Miami's starting quarterback.
We'll see how he does, but no question.
He's a starter.
I'm looking for other starters here.
James Brockermeyer Center out of TCU.
He will be Miami's starting center.
Xavier Lucas, I believe will be Miami starting quarterback,
starting cornerback, I should say, with Miami Charles Brantley.
Might be Miami's starting nickel, Zechariah Poyser, safety out of Jackson.
in Will be a starting safety. David Blay might be a starting defensive tackle.
CJ Daniels will probably be a starting receiver. So I do see, you know, kind of going through
that list, probably, you know, eight, nine players who could very well be starters for Miami this
year. So I think overall they did a really good job. And their notable loss, the most notable loss,
was Isaiah Horton wide receiver who would have been a starter who went to Alabama. So that was
the most notable loss. I think they had a lot of notable gains. Oh, absolutely. Although,
I do want to acknowledge.
On this show, there was a lot of berating of that Georgia Bulldog
Offensive Line and Run game.
And yet, in the NFL draft,
three of the top 100 picks belong to the very same offensive line.
I'm just saying, I'm just saying, but no, seriously.
That might be an indictment of their offensive line coach, Stacey Cyrils.
That may be an indictment on him because he couldn't seem to get that unit working together.
very well. Good players, not a good unit. And I'll give you that. I'm just saying I'm not used to
seeing players from bad units drafted because I've seen some bad units in my day. And I haven't seen
NFL team salivating the way's top hundred pick type of draft capital owner. That's all I'm saying.
It's an unfamiliar condition if you win. A lot of busts coming out of Georgia's offensive line in
that 2025 draft.
He said write him off already.
If you drafted one, write him off.
He goes to stay.
Write him up.
He's going to be terrible.
You know who,
so I'm looking at the ACC transfer portal rankings.
After Miami at number one,
you got Florida State at number two with 23 commits,
eight four star guys came in.
North Carolina at number three,
huge transfer class of 34 commits,
seven, four stars.
You know, so a team that like,
SMU comes in at number eight kind of right in the middle.
You know, they lost some good players from last year's team.
I'm actually a little surprised SMU didn't do better.
And also their net rating of incoming four stars versus outgoing is even at zero net.
So they brought in as many four stars as they lost.
Are you a little bit surprised that SMU coming off their first season in the ACC,
ACC, ACC championship that they weren't a little more aggressive and successful?
in the transfer portal, because I thought they would end up being in the top three or four,
and they weren't.
Absolutely.
You got, you know, when you got boosters who are former presidents and you make it to the
conference championship in your first year, you would think all in is the planning.
You would think, hey, we are going to become the premier football school in North Texas, period.
We are going to make it so that TCU looks obsolete compared to us.
Texas Tech what?
What are they even doing over there?
Don't matter how many billionaires they got.
We're rolling different.
And to see that they did not do that in the portal is a little shocking to me.
The main reason is shocking.
You talk about Clemson not using the portal, right?
Even if Clemson didn't use the portal because they felt like they didn't need to,
well, Todd McShay has, I believe, four Clemson Tigers inside his top 10 of the NFL draft
next year.
It makes sense to say, hey, we don't need a.
a ton of guys to come in here. SMU on the other hand, even without the guys that they lost
in the transfer portal, just from graduation and whatnot, they lost a ton of talent. And so you need
to find a way to meaningfully replenish that or else you're going to find yourself in a bad way.
Everybody talks about what did Lashley do to kind of get himself here in year one. Stockpile
on big bodies was what they did better than many people would have imagined they were going to
going to do coming in. And it seems like they haven't revamped that defensive line room that's losing
multiple players in terms of graduation or the NFL draft right away. You needed to get that done.
The pass catchers, the wide receivers and tight end girls, they lost talent from there.
You've got to replace them. I don't think they did an adequate job, but surrounding Kevin
Jennings with talent. They have gotten a couple good backs, but I haven't seen the wide receiver
and tight end talent that I would think they would need.
You know, coming up next, I want to dive into transfer portal strategy because we've talked before here on Lockdown, ACC, about the strategy of players, right?
When is it time to leave?
Is the grass necessarily greener somewhere else?
But what about the strategy, coaches, GMs, NIL collectives?
Is it better to attack it early or is it better to wait for bargains?
I want Kenton to weigh in on this when we come back.

Kent and Gibbs and Grace and Boone host Lockedon Wolfpack.
I'm sure you guys had a few tears after that tough baseball series you all had over the weekend.
Meanwhile, on Locked on Cains, I'm pretty happy because Miami took a two-game
sweep in the series against NC State with the third game mercifully for Kenton's Wolfpack
getting rained out in lightning storm. So you didn't have to suffer a complete annihilation of a three
game sweep. And, you know, Miami baseball 10 straight ACC conference wins, three straight conference
sweeps, hottest team in the ACC. NC State used to be pretty hot, Kenton, but, you know,
if you want to bow down to me in all my Miami glory, I will accept it.
Hey, man, baseball barely even revenue generating, all right?
I don't even want to talk about baseball.
You come over to Lockstone Wolfpack.
We're going to talk about Will Way.
We're going to talk about Palm a beat, okay?
Or NBia, rather.
We're going to talk about, you know, some Mr. Jane from, or Mr. Dane, rather, from Florida State.
That's what we're going to talk about, you know, PJ Haggrey, the State.
That's what we talk about, oh, Lockstone, this.
We didn't worry about one little bad, you know, series.
We rebound for one eventually.
We all right with that.
But what's more important is, you know, again, get ready to learn some reckoning ACCC basketball.
Get ready.
Okay, okay.
All right.
All right.
All right.
All right.
So let's talk with Transfer Portal strategies, Kenton.
Yeah.
The portal has gotten so crazy with the amount of money that's getting thrown around.
I mean, players, especially if you're a quarterback, you're getting seven-figure offers, you know,
allegedly four plus million for Carson back at Miami.
I have to say allegedly, because Miami is a.
private institution. They don't have to release that stuff. So I don't exactly know how much Carson Beck
is making, but the word on the street is about four million. In your mind, is it better for coaches
to attack the portal early? You identify your targets immediately, or is it better to sit back,
wait for a few players to kind of figure out maybe their market is not what they thought they would.
and maybe you can shop for some bargains
a little bit later on in the portal.
Do you attack your needs immediately
or do you sit back, assess,
and maybe get some clearance items later on?
I say the answer is a definitive, yes.
You see, what the strategy,
hear me out here, hear me out.
If you have a player that you know,
this is my guy, right?
Like if Cristobald believe, hey,
Carson Beck is the best port back
that's going to be in this portal.
There's nobody better coming out.
if you got the money to spend it, go ahead and spend it.
However, I'm not a big believer in, let's just be honest.
I'm not going to name any names, but there have been schools that have just seen names
jump in the portal and immediately are throwing life-sized bags.
I'm just like, that guy is not that.
He's never been worth that.
He'll not be worth that.
You paying him will not make him jump up to that level.
You'll just have paid him at a level that he's not at.
So I think the key is it's more of an art than a science and understanding, right?
Work this the same way a professional team would in terms of, you know, professional teams don't
just go out and say, hey, we need to throw money away at whoever we can because we're seeing
quarterbacks that, you know, you and I talk about Nico's time.
Think about this.
How many quarterbacks would you say are worse than Nico that are making comparable or better
money than him?
And I get it.
Part of that is because he went when he did, I get that.
I get that.
But how many quarterbacks do you say are comparable or worse that are making better money
because some coach said, oh, we need a guy right now.
We're going to throw the money out of him right now.
And then you ultimately end up with a guy that again,
you've paid him like he's a top-knives guy.
Is he that?
Sure.
I mean, like, do we like, how much better if at all is Darry and Mensa than Nico?
Because that was, you know, Mensa who, and,
I give credit, like Duke went out, they got their guy and reportedly paid a lot for that.
That was another one reportedly in the $4 million range.
You know, what is it reported that Nico's getting at UCLA?
Like under two mill?
Like I don't.
Yeah, about two mill slightly under.
That's the number.
1.5 to 2 is what's being speculated.
So, I mean, would you rather have Nico at 1.5 mil than Mensa at like 3.8 mil?
I mean, probably, right?
That's a bargain.
And that's my thing.
If you absolutely love Minson,
if you watched him play and you're like,
there's not another him,
this is our guy,
I don't give a damn how you cut it,
how you slice it,
we need them, pay what you pay.
But how many times have we seen teams
go in the portal and go pay a young man
and I'll even admit,
my teams have done it.
Pay the young man,
very fine cashola in the portal,
and then he gets to NC State,
and he is who he is.
And we imagine,
What did you expect from him?
Why would you expect some new greatness that was never who he was?
So again, I would say if you are 100% sold out on a guy, take your big swing.
But every swing KB for the fences.
Sometimes you got to pick your spots, have a little plate discipline,
unlike NC State this weekend, Coach Avent and company,
but you got to pick your spots and say, you know what?
I don't think that this guy is worth this home.
I don't think he's worked that homerous way.
I think I've let him sit.
I think I've let him go on clearance maybe.
Because again, if we're talking about who paid what for who
and who's going where,
how many guys did we see in this spring quarter
that we would have never imagined we're jumping in?
How many guys did we know like, oh, he's going to be a starter now,
that, you know, how many teams are sitting up there doing a face palm
because they're like, we paid some unharrowded nobody receiver
from southeastern Delta Valley Concordia,
state and now Trevor Pena is out? What? What? You know, so again, it's, it's all about,
it's all about, again, being aggressive when you know, but if you're unsure, if you're like,
he'd be nice, he's a nice to have, but he's not a must have. Take your time. There may be
something better out there. I mean, I also, I think there's a big correlation in the context of how
far away your team is from competing for a championship and how glaring your needs are.
Because like, okay, the number one team in the transfer portal this cycle and number one by
pretty large margin in terms of like how many players and the quality players are brought in is
LSU. And so, and I think the context matters there because LSU, tremendous offense, a lot of
holes on defense. You know, they're in the most competitive conference. You know, at least so that at least that's
what they tell you in the SEC, right?
And also, but LSU has an opportunity, like, they have an opportunity to be a team that can
compete for a conference championship and a college football playoffs.
So I think they looked out and said, we have to be really, really aggressive and we need to go
out and bring in as many difference makers as possible.
So they, they had to go out and win the portal for that reason.
I know that there was some of that attitude in Miami as well.
That's why they were very aggressive for Carson Beck, because they didn't have Carson Beck.
I mean, there's a huge drop off in the quarterback room after.
that. So they needed somebody of that experience level and of that caliber versus, and maybe this is a
terrible example, because this team doesn't use the portal like that anyway. But, you know, Clemson,
who did pick up three transfers, but they've got the highest returning talent ratio in the entire
country, well, it's the entire ACC anyway. I'm not sure about the rest of the country,
but they have, you know, they're bringing back more of their contributors and starters from last year than
anyone else in the ACC.
And, you know, they already have a really good roster.
They didn't have a whole lot of holes to fill.
So it kind of makes sense for multiple reasons why dabbo wouldn't be as aggressive there.
So I think the context also matters.
I mean, if your team already stinks and you're nowhere close to competing, maybe you put
more of your NIL money into recruiting, you know, players out of high school.
Whereas if you feel like you're, hey, I'm, I'm a safety and a cornerback and a wide receiver
away from being a championship level team, we better go get some.
free agents in the portal.
So I think that context also matters.
Well, I see where you're coming from.
I don't fully agree because if you're a bad team,
how many years do you have as a coach to be bad?
How many years as a coach do you have to stink it up before?
You know what I mean?
You know, you look at both of our coaches.
Let's just say, hypothetically,
both teams are on the even playing field middle of the road, right?
NC State's middle of the road, man is middle of the road.
this is year what for Mario Cristoboff, five, six.
Going into four, going into four.
Okay, going into four.
Do you think that Miami would be okay with them being middle of the row year four?
No.
So you can, even if you thought our best shot, best shot here, if everything shakes right for us,
we could end up on outside looking in at the playoffs, okay?
Everything goes perfect.
You still can't sit on your hands and say, ah, we will.
We'll punt this year of recruit high school and hopefully those guys develop into something because by the time those guys are senior, your tail is going to be somebody off the offensive line coach again, brother.
You're not going to.
That's a good point.
You know, you're not going to be around.
Even if your team is the worst team in the nation, you better find a way to make them better or else that leash is going to get yanked right up off you.
And, hey, don't worry about it.
Just look at the trees.
Don't pay attention to anything else.
Just come out here and look at the tree line with me and you'll walk away with a nice little buyout.
but, you know, for lack of a better term, you're going to get whack.
Yeah.
Yeah, no, that's a great point.
All right, a couple things we have to talk about coming up next.
This is a move that might get the media off of the Jordan Hudson Bill Belichick beat.
Is this going to happen?
And then we also have to talk about because the ACC spring meetings are coming up.
And we believe they are going to shorten the conference basketball schedule.
Good idea, great idea, terrible idea.
You want to keep it locked right here.
We're not done yet on this brand new episode of LockdowneACC.

All right. So pro football talk.com has reported that Bill Belichick has been exploring hiring an experienced PR specialist, i.e. someone to replace
his 24-year-old girlfriend who's currently handling his PR and reportedly not doing the best job at it
if you read about that disastrous CBS interview. So Belichick, according to pro football talk,
has been having conversation with former Bears VP of Communications, Brandon Faber. The discussions
have been occurring for a couple of months. Maybe Belichick is known for a while. Jordan Hudson
is not the answer here. I mean, maybe the relationship, fine. The working relationship, not so much.
They say for now, however, not.
thing has been completed or formalized.
The potential assignment encompasses working directly for North Carolina and or assisting
Belichick with non-UNC matters like his book.
It would be wise, they write for Belichick to get someone to provide him with Frank,
candid advice on how to navigate the media.
As it relates to his book tour, Belichick has badly blown it by assuming the needy and needs
him more than he needs the media, they say.
And so, yeah, I mean, it's for whatever.
you want to say and we don't feel completely comfortable with talking so much about Belichick's
relationship and stuff. But I think it's very inbound to talk about the professional thing. And,
you know, having your PR guru being someone with decades of experience and not being someone
you're in a relationship with who's 50 years younger than you seems like a pretty good idea from
where I sit. Oh, absolutely. I mean, I don't, I don't know why one would want to have that set up
in situation anyway to have your your partner that involved in your professional life,
your romantic partner that involved in your professional life if you don't absolutely have to
have that be the case. So, you know, I look at that and I say to myself, ew, this is, this was
long overdue. And, you know, it's, it's a shame that it took that CBS morning interview to kind of,
you know, make this thing reach a boiling point where it's like, all right, you cannot proceed like this.
You have to make it clear, hey, I'm making changes here because, again, Donald and his old lady, they've never been, hey, I got to go to every meet she got. I got to know. I got to know every podcast I'm doing. I need to be in the background and prove it. Hey, that's about it. I've never been that way with any of my romantic partners, anything like that. And so, you know, it's as weird and awkward as it is to talk about, you invite people to talk about it. You invite people to deep.
when you give folks more visibility.
And giving somebody visibility into your work,
giving visibility in terms of you being on a field,
recording a couple of TikToks or whatever,
sure, go for it.
Giving visibility by way of you got to CC her to talk to me.
Oh, no, no, that's a fool's air in to say the least.
So I'm glad that at 72, at the tender young age of 72,
Bill Belichick has wizened up to how this may not be the play he wants to put down.
elsewhere um ac c basketball the schedule may look a lot different uh next year moving forward
so when the administrators of 17 acc schools they're going to come together here i think this week at
the acc uh spring meetings down in florida uh they are expected to approve shortening the conference
basketball schedule from 20 acc games down to 18 now uh the plus side of this
They seem to think that this would give ACC teams a better opportunity to make the NCAA tournament.
They probably saw, hey, the SEC got almost all their teams into the field of 68 last year,
and they play an 18-game conference schedule.
So they look at that as an opportunity.
The thing that people may not like about this, Kenton, is when you open up two more non-conference games,
don't expect to see like extra ACC versus SEC challenge and like big time non-con opponents.
They're going to schedule cupcakes.
Like teams will use these extra two non-conference dates to schedule directional schools that are so geographically specific.
You had no idea they even existed where you're going to win by 40, 50 points.
But that's what they want.
They want to add these blowout wins to their resume.
So are you for that idea if it maybe helps the ACC get an extra?
team or two in the tournament. Yes, I'm for the idea, but not just because it will get an extra
team or two in the tournament. It gives teams more control of their own destiny. There will always
be teams that game the system. There will be teams whose coaches are their seat as perennially
warm at minimum. And they're like, oh, okay, well, I've got this, you know, stuff to stat sheet
get as many wins as possible. Get ready to learn some Houston Central or Houston Christian
University Huskies. Yeah. Get ready to learn it. Right.
there's going to be those teams that are like, hey, come on in.
We've got to do this.
But then there are going to be those teams that say, you know what?
If we're good, if we're bad, damn the torpedoes, we're going to find out.
We're going to find out.
We're not going to wait around.
We're not going to sit around and play around.
I want the best as soon as I can get them and as often as I can get them.
And at the end of the day, when you give people the choice, that's all I never ask for.
Give people the opportunity to schedule.
better. Like you said, Donald, there will always be those coaches who are like, hey, man,
I can't afford to miss the tournament this year. And yeah, scheduling Detroit Mercy won't help
out our net ranking much. But, but beating the mighty Titans, you know, beating those
mighty Titans may, it'll do more for us than getting our heads beat in by Kansas by 40.
You know, there will always be those schools. If that's your choice, that's your choice.
but just no, you know, you're going to look funny in the light
compared to the ACC schools that do use that opportunity.
Like a Duke per se.
I believe they're playing St. Jobs or somebody like that
in Madison Square Garden coming up here.
Like there are teams that are going to use their opportunity like that.
And so you've got to give credit to a Duke for doing that.
NC State is in the midst of a home and home with Kansas.
You've got to give them credit for doing that.
Teams that go out of seat competition, they'll get credit,
they'll get adulation, and they'll get the net boost because of that.
teams that run from competition, we all see you.
We will all see you, okay?
You cannot run by scheduling Ohio Valley opponents like we won't notice.
Why do you have a rivalry with Austin P?
Stop playing them every year.
What's going on here?
Oh, man.
Oh, well said.
