Starting point is 00:00:00 It's another week of ACC football, and there definitely won't be any chaos, right? You are Locked on ACC, your daily podcast on the Atlantic Coast Conference. Part of the Locked on Podcast Network, your team every day. Hello, everyone, and welcome into Locked on ACC. I'm Jackson Hulzer, the host of Locked on Syracuse. Thank you for making us your first listen of every single day here on the Locked On Podcast Network. Now the number one sports podcasting network. It's your team every day.
Starting point is 00:00:39 And of course, we are always free and available wherever you get your podcast. And on today's show, we are previewing week 12 of ACC football. We got seven matchups this weekend, including tonight, a pretty big one for Louisville, hosting Clemson. And can anyone in this conference step up? Can anyone class? Anyone? Anyone want to step up and be good this year? Maybe compete for a championship? Who knows? But we got to preview this week's games. A lot of good ones on the slate.
Starting point is 00:01:14 I mean, Pat and Arduzzi, he doesn't seem to care about Pitt against Notre Dame this week. That should be fun. Duke and Virginia are two of the more chaotic teams in the ACC, and they got an elimination game this week. Plus, we'll begin with this. The Miami Hurricanes are alive? All that and more here on today's edition. of Locked-on ACC. Let's get right to it. Number 15 Miami hosting NC State this Saturday at 3.30 p.m. Eastern. Is this the CJ Bailey audition game to be the Miami quarterback in 2026?
Starting point is 00:01:54 Too soon? Sorry, NC State fans, but Miami fans, I mean, maybe you should get a little bit familiar with CJ Bailey, of course. I'm not a believer in the Miami Hurricanes. I'm not. I watched them very closely last week as the host of Locked on Syracuse. And if they were playing a competent football team, a football team that actually had a pulse, a football team that actually had a quarterback, they would have lost last week.
Starting point is 00:02:22 I know that they eventually turned it on at the end of the second quarter and they had a good second half, cool, good for them. They were sleepwalking through the, most of the first of the first quarter. first half of that game against Syracuse. And too often times this season, they seem to be sleepwalking. I mean, another example was against Stanford. And of course, they already have a couple of losses this season to teams that, quite frankly, they should have beaten.
Starting point is 00:02:47 So the Miami Hurricanes, I'm not a big believer in them, but guess what? They're 15th in the country. They still have a good defense. They could still mathematically find themselves at Charlotte in the end of the year. and go to the college football playoff. Now, NC State is not a pushover for Miami. We saw NC State defeat Georgia Tech. And the reason why NC State was able to do that,
Starting point is 00:03:19 it was one of the keys from Grayson Boone and Kenton Gibbs, if you go and listen to Lockdown Wolfpack, they do a great job. You got to store a lot of points. And I know that kind of sounds like a Captain Obvious type statement there. but if you can get a team into a shootout, some teams are more equipped to be able to handle that style of game where you have both teams just going up and down the field trading points for points than others.
Starting point is 00:03:43 And so I think it's very clear what NC State has to do against Miami. If they can crack this Miami defense and put up 35 points against this team, Miami might lose. even though they're at home and they're two touchdown favorites in this game, Miami can absolutely lose this game. But Miami does have a good defense. NC State can be a little bit inconsistent at times. I don't know if they're going to be able to put up 30, 40 points against this Miami defense.
Starting point is 00:04:14 And so as a result, I am going to pick Miami to win 30 to 24, which based on how my picks are going and based on how the ACC is going this year, congratulations. NC State fans on getting a nice victory on the road against the Miami Hurricanes. Next up, we got Boston College hosting number 16 Georgia Tech at 3.30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday. If Boston College beats Georgia Tech, it would be the most ACC 20-25 thing to ever happen. Georgia Tech has everything to play for. They're 8 in 1. They're sitting atop the ACC.
Starting point is 00:04:56 their whole season is still right in front of them. I mean, look at their schedule. They have Georgia at the end of the year, obviously. You beat Georgia. Not only, I mean, it doesn't matter for the ACC standings, but if they beat Georgia, they're secure in a college football playoff spot as an at-large team. Georgia Tech is maybe the key to potentially getting multiple ACC
Starting point is 00:05:20 teams in the college football playoff, which I know sounds incredibly unlikely. But here's the scenario for you, ladies and gentlemen. Georgia Tech wins out the regular season. So that includes a win against Georgia. They're in at large. But if they lose the conference championship, that team who wins the conference championship is likely going to be in the college football
Starting point is 00:05:41 playoff because automatic bids and being a top five conference and all in the land, even though the ACC has not had a good year, you still get in. That's the ACC's path to getting two teams in. Comes down to Georgia Tech. But as far as this game, yeah. So they got everything to play for. Meanwhile, Boston College, what are they? One in nine?
Starting point is 00:06:04 They are one of the worst teams in all the power conferences. I don't actually think they're the worst team in the ACC. I think it's actually the Steve Van Jelley less Syracuse Orange. Sorry, Syracuse, just how it is. But they're right up there too. BC is definitely bad. And honestly, with the way things are going with Boston College and screwing things up, whether it's in football or it's in basketball.
Starting point is 00:06:29 I mean, they lost to Connecticut. No, not Yukon, Connecticut, central Connecticut in basketball. Lost in college, can you do us all favor and just take your beat down by Georgia Tech and get out of there? Please, can you just do it? We can't have Georgia Tech going down to you guys. So, you know, have that Pat and or Dozy mindset of it doesn't matter if we lose this game 100 to 10.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Who cares? your team's already bad anyway. I'm sorry if you want more expert analysis, but the reality is that this is one team in Georgia Tech who's at the top of the ACC, and you got another team in Boston College at home, but one of the worst teams in the ACC, if not the worst team in the ACC.
Starting point is 00:07:14 Georgia Tech should dominate this name. 3510, Georgia Tech is my store prediction. What do you think? Comment your thoughts in the comment section below. Georgia Tech? They're going to beat Boston College or is the ACC going to do ACC things? Is NC State going to go on the road and actually beat Miami? Maybe I wouldn't be surprised by it.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Comment in the comment section below. And don't worry, we still got plenty of more picks coming your way here on Locked-on ACC, including Duke against Virginia. Does anyone know who's actually going to win this game? No. but it should be a fun one. Stick with me here on locked on ACC. It's almost the weekend. Time to look back and crown this week's MVP on who delivered, powered by DoorDash, just like you can win every Saturday with DoorDash streaks, saving more every time you order these players delivered when it mattered most,
Starting point is 00:08:15 and let's break it down. In the ACC, let's go to SMU and T.J. Hardin delivered in a big way for SMU, excuse me, in their victory over Boston College. 16 carries for all. 130 yards over eight yards per carry. And guess what? His running mate and Derek McFall, not too shabby either. He had five carries for 64 yards and three touchdowns. That means 60% of Derek McFall's tarries went for a touchdown in this game. That is crazy. So how about let's give it to both T.J. Hardin and Derek McFall for their outstanding performance for SMU and their win over Boston College. And just like they delivered for SMU, DoorDash, is your Saturdays with DoorDash streaks.
Starting point is 00:09:00 You save every Saturday you order, stack it up all season, and you could save up to $250, including $100 in DoorDash credits. Or this Saturday, keep the streak alive. Viewer your game day only with DoorDash terms apply promo period through November 18. Locked on ACC. I'm Jackson Holes or the host of Locked on Syracuse. Let's get back to Week 12 ACC football game picks. And this one we're about to talk about is between two teams
Starting point is 00:09:30 that let's just be honest. I don't think they're very good, but they have incredible stakes for this one. Of course, I'm talking about Duke hosting number 19 Virginia at 3.30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday. I just don't have much stock in either of these teams. In fact, I would sell all of the stock you have in these teams. First of all, with Virginia,
Starting point is 00:09:54 who is going to be the quarterback on Saturday? Now, at the time of this recording, it seems like they're optimistic that starter Chandler Morris is going to be able to go. So TBD on that, that could be good news for Virginia. But Duke, remember last week on the show I said that technically for Duke this game against Yukon doesn't matter. When I was saying that, I didn't think they would actually lose to Yukon. And I want to be clear here. Yukon is actually not a pushover. They're not the same Yukon hustis from a few years ago
Starting point is 00:10:32 that would just win like one game a year. They're actually not bad, led by Jim Nora. Heard of him. He's a pretty good coach. They know what they're doing there. Joe Pignano just never turns the ball over either, their quarterback. That's still no excuse.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Losing to Yukon, but it doesn't really matter. And yet both of these teams have, one loss in the ACC. But wait, actually Virginia has two. It's just that their loss to NC State doesn't count. Is that not, again, the most ACC thing of ACC things this season, that Virginia has two ACC losses, but one of them doesn't count because it counted as an at-large? It actually makes me kind of upset.
Starting point is 00:11:14 I wish teams wouldn't do that. That should count against you if you play a conference game, even if you want to count it out of conference. But whatever. I mean, could you imagine sending one of the? these teams in there to the college football playoff? I mean, are we trying to create the Super League on our own if Duke or Virginia goes to the college football playoff?
Starting point is 00:11:36 If you want actual analysis for this game, here it is. It's going to come down to Duke and if they can take care of the football or not. If Duke can take care of the football, they actually got a pretty high ceiling. They got one of the top offenses in the ACC. Dary and Metsa is a heck of a quarterback when he's not turning the ball over or when the team is not turning the ball over in general. But turnovers have been their big problem. And Virginia oftentimes this season is a type of team that they won't really beat themselves.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Check the numbers, time of possession, amount of turnovers they forced, amount of turnovers they commit it. That's why Virginia is where they're at. They don't make a lot of self-inflicted wounds. Duke, that's what they've done all year. So that's what's going to come down to in this game. If Duke can win the turnover margin, they should win and they should win by more than you'd probably think.
Starting point is 00:12:34 If not, we've seen Virginia this year just keep on winning at times. Can't really explain it. They just do. But I'll go 3124 Duke. That is my prediction. Comment your thoughts in the comments section below. Let's move on to the game. tonight.
Starting point is 00:12:53 He got number 20 Louisville hosting the Clemson Tigers at 7.30 p.m. Eastern. Louisville. What the actual, excuse me, that's probably a little bit mean to Louisville. Miller Moss, what the actual, this game is so unpredictable. I mean, we were talking about it on ACC squad. Would any outcome really surprise you between Louisville and Clemson? if Clemson walked in there tonight and won this game 317, would you really be that surprised? Maybe a little, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. Would you be surprised if Louisville won this game 317?
Starting point is 00:13:39 Is it going to be close? Louisville is very Jekyll and Hyde. This is Louisville, okay? They're seven and two, but in the last three weeks, you ready for this? Last three games, I should say. within a score against Boston College in the fourth quarter, within a score against Virginia Tech in the fourth quarter, and then last game, they lose to Cal at home.
Starting point is 00:14:08 That's Louisville. And Clemson, what are they? We're now in mid-November, and they're still just this, I don't know. they beat Florida State who's not very good they probably should have beaten Duke but they didn't Duke isn't very good I don't think they just lost the UK I don't know
Starting point is 00:14:36 I straight up don't know I wish I could refuse to make a pick but my job is to make picks my job well you know what I'm making picks 27 24 Clemson agree with me disagree with me comment your thoughts in the comments section below. I don't know how you can actually predict it, but you know what?
Starting point is 00:14:58 I'll take one for the team. Watch it now actually be 27, 24, Clemson. Wouldn't that be something? All right. Number 22, Pitt, verse number nine, Notre Dame and noon Eastern on Saturday. I mean, Pat and Narduzzi, the head coach of Pitt,
Starting point is 00:15:17 doesn't seem to care about this game, so why should we care about this game? Why should you do it? Why should I even talk about this game? If Pat Narduzzi doesn't really care, who cares about this game, right? It doesn't matter. I mean, it's not a conference game. I don't know what Pat and Arduzzi is actually accomplishing by saying that.
Starting point is 00:15:37 I don't know if this is some sort of Jedi mind trick. Maybe it is. He's wrong. This game absolutely matters for Pitt. And here's the explanation why. I know it's unlikely. given where Pitt is at right now and given their resume right now, that they would be an at-large team for the college football playoff.
Starting point is 00:16:00 I understand that. Their best path to the playoff is getting to the conference championship game, winning the conference championship game, and there you go. You're in. But theoretically, they could also clinch a spot at large. It's possible. Right now they're ranked 22. It's not like they're too far off.
Starting point is 00:16:19 And you still got three games left. If you can get a win against Notre Dame, Dame, that would be pretty impressive. That's a resume building win. And then your next two games to close the regular season, if you are pit, are against Georgia Tech and Miami. Does Pat Nardousie think by saying this that Notre Dame is all of a sudden going to take their foot off the gas?
Starting point is 00:16:47 Notre Dame has everything to play for right now, because if Notre Dame loses, they're done. They're not in a conference. They can't win a conference championship and get an automatic big. bid. So Notre Dame is everything to play for. They have to try. They have to care because if they don't, their season is over if they lose again. That's what happened in week two. When they lost that game to Texas A&M, I didn't bury Notre Dame because I know that they're a really good team. But I also knew that if they lose again this season, that they're done. They're not going to get in that nine and three. You're not getting that benefit when you don't play in a conference.
Starting point is 00:17:31 I highly suggest that Pitt tries that they don't follow the lead of their head coach in this game, saying that this game doesn't really matter, that they can lose it 100 to 10 and who cares? Because while you're right, Pat and Arduzzi, it doesn't count to the ACC standings. It does count for your players. Not a good comment to make, but what do I know? Pick could go out there and actually win this game and we all look like idiots, particularly me. Am I going to pick, pick to win? Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:18:00 2714 Notre Dame is my score prediction. Agree with me. Think I'm an idiot. Disagree with me. Whatever the case may be. Comment your thoughts in the comment section below. And hey, guess what? We still got two more games to talk about here on Locked on ACC for week 12.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Nobody won the award this week of somebody has to win because I think both the games that we're going to talk about coming up do have actual stakes in it. So stick with me here on Locked on ACC. The NBA is back and there's no better place to get in on the action than Fandul, the official sports betting partner of the NBA. Even if you miss the start of the game or want to ride the hot hand, Fandua has live bets on everything from who will store next to fourth quarter comebacks.

So head to fanduil.com to sign up and play your game with Fandul, the official sports betting partner of the NBA. Two more games to talk about here on locked on ACC for week 12 of ACC football. Let's go to Wake Forest hosting North Carolina this Saturday at 4.30 p.m. Eastern. Wake Forest, congratulations.
Starting point is 00:19:27 They are bowl eligible. They have six wins. So now what are they playing for? A better bowl. They already have three losses in the conference, so they're not making a conference title game. Although with the way the ACC is going this year, everyone's going to lose, I guess. Everyone loses. I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Obviously, they're not going to get into a conference title game. But hey, they got six wins. Now it's just about how many you can finish with at the end of the year. Get yourself a nice bowl. Set yourself up potentially for an even better 2026 season. So congratulations to Wake Forest. North Carolina, four and five. Okay, not completely awful.
Starting point is 00:20:08 They've gotten better. They've won the last two games. Granted, they were against Syracuse, who doesn't have a quarterback and in that game started a walk-on lacrosse player. No, I'm not joking. You can check out Locked-on Syracuse post-game because I covered that extensively.
Starting point is 00:20:28 It wasn't pretty. But North Carolina won that game. And then they beat Stanford. So they're not the worst team in the power conference. That's good. And hey, if North Carolina wins two of its final three games, Bill Belichick has himself a bowl eligible team in his first season. Wouldn't that be a pretty nice story for North Carolina?
Starting point is 00:20:52 I mean, I would tip my cap to them if they actually make a bowl, considering where we thought they were at the beginning of the year and how it was looking and all the stories coming out. and whatever the case may be, they find a way to scratch a bowl appearance out of this. It's Bill Belichick for you. I guess he's a really good coach. But we'll see.
Starting point is 00:21:14 North Carolina, in its last four games, three of them have been decided by one possession. North Carolina is only one and two in those games. But in the one game that was not decided by one possession, it was the win over Syracuse, where they won by 17. Both teams are bottom five in the ACC in storing offense. So conventional wisdom would say that both these teams are probably not going to
Starting point is 00:21:44 store a lot of points on each other this Saturday. But ACC wisdom would tell you that this is going to be the game of the year and that one of these teams is going to win 41, 38 or how about 50 to 48? Something like that. I don't know. Anything when an 8. Because I keep saying 8. but I am going to go with conventional wisdom because I'm a sucker.
Starting point is 00:22:06 So let's go with Wake Forest. They're at home 20 to 16. Comment your thoughts in the comment section below. Actually, one of the more interesting games of the week in the conference. And finally, it did not win somebody has to win bowl because both these teams do have something to play for this season. But it's still not a great matchup. You got Florida State at home.
Starting point is 00:22:30 they are hosting Virginia Tech Saturday at 7.30 p.m. Eastern. How many times do we have to say if Florida State loses this game, Mike Norville might get fired? How many more times? Is it this week if they lose to Virginia Tech, a team that is going to need a new coach in the offseason, i.e. maybe James Franklin. Maybe we, that still is not penned to paper.
Starting point is 00:23:02 know what is going on with that, but they need a new coach. FSU gave us so much hope at the beginning of the year as a conference and conference pride. When they beat Alabama in week one, I mean, I thought, okay, I know Bama's going to be really good and they are really good, but the way Florida State played and just beat them up, maybe Florida State had something. Maybe that was wrong. They're going to go to the college football playoff.
Starting point is 00:23:31 They're going to be one of the premier teams in the ACC this season. and the Florida State team is back. Man, does that game feel like a decade ago? That was only week one. That was in late August. It's November, but it might as well be November of 2035. Not November of 2025. I mean, FSC right now, they're just a program without an identity.
Starting point is 00:23:58 What are they exactly? You know that they have some sort of talent. anyone can go on any major recruiting website and find the talent that they have. I don't know what's wrong with them. It's probably the head coach and the staff in general. The coach just has an absurd contract. So they're not getting rid of them yet. We don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:29 Florida State fans, here's a question for you. If you're still watching and listening to this show, do you actually care about getting to six wins? Like, do you care about being bowl eligible this season? Does it matter to you at all? I mean, I'm the Syracuse host, so I'll just speak as a Syracuse fan. Like, I want to see my team make a bowl. But I'm also with Syracuse.
Starting point is 00:24:52 I mean, they're not exactly a team in quite a while that is competed for a national championship. That's just the reality. Florida State, not too long ago, was literally undefeated. They've won a national championship in recent memory with James Winston. Remember that? That was actually over a decade ago. I don't know. I can't pick Virginia Tech because that would seem silly.
Starting point is 00:25:22 And I hate picking Florida State because they always let me down. And I'm saying that as a Florida Gators fan growing up. So the kid in me is actually very happy with Florida State in their demise. But not as someone who's now doing a show here on Locked on ACC. see, that's for sure. Florida State no longer relevant. Maybe get a new coach. Then we can talk. But for now, you'll get a win here, maybe. 3120 Florida State, I guess. Comment your thoughts in the comments section below. Who do you have winning in this one? Florida State or Virginia Tech. Wouldn't it be really funny if Virginia Tech actually won? I wouldn't be surprised at all.
Starting point is 00:26:08 Now, as far as what's coming up on Locked-on ACC, the next ACC podcast will be with your normal host, Alex Dono and Kenton Gibbs. And you will see or, yeah, you will see my beautiful face or hear my beautiful voice next Friday. When we talk about week 13 of ACC football and hopefully by then we can figure out who's actually good in the conference and who may have a chance in the championship. in the conference this season. Folks, thank you all so much for watching. Thank you all so much for listening. If you like this podcast, be sure to hit that like button. If you really enjoy the podcast, be sure to hit subscribe.
