Starting point is 00:00:00 The Cincinnati Bengals finally got a convincing home win. Let's break down everything that went down at Paycor on Sunday. You are Locked-on Bengals, your daily Cincinnati Bengals podcast. Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. What up Bengals fans and welcome to another episode of the Locked-on Bengals podcast. The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 41 to 24 in a game that was honestly, more separate than the score suggests. I'm Jake. Let's go from the Lockdown Bengals podcast,
Starting point is 00:00:41 along with James Rapine from the Lockdown Bengals podcast. We are part of the Lockdown Podcast Network covering your team every day. We'll be ready to talk about the trade deadline here on Lockdown Bengals soon enough. But first, we've got to talk about the Bengals getting to four and five in their first home victory of the year. And James, what did they do? They went and did the thing we've asked them to do a few times this year. and well, they just scored 40.
Starting point is 00:01:06 Shout out to the everydayers, by the way. Shout out to those of you who make us your first listen and welcome in to those who are new to the locked-on Bengals podcast and haven't heard us say just score 40 before this season because this is your first show. Trust me, it's something that we've said before. The Bengals accomplished that goal today against the Las Vegas Raiders. And James, to me, this is a game that showed you how great Joe Burrow can be
Starting point is 00:01:28 because he was absolutely phenomenal in this game. There were more standout performers, of course, but as always, or as is typical, I guess we could say, it starts with number nine. It does. I mean, he set the tone because the Raiders came out and they drove 11 plays, 70 yards, scored a touchdown, and it's like, oh, crap, oh, crap, what is going to happen? And yet, 60,000 fans, rather, that were nervous. And Joe Burrell calmly led the Bengals downfield, moved in the pocket very well with seeing the field well.
Starting point is 00:02:03 and the run game got going a bit. And there were two plays on that opening touchdown drive outside of the touchdown that stood out the most to me. The first one is a second and one. Chase Brown runs for nine yards and it's second and short. And Max Crosby beats Amarius Mims on the inside and should have sacked Joe Burrow, but Joe Burrow makes a heck of a move and flips it to Chase Brown for a first down, which was huge.
Starting point is 00:02:29 And then the Bengals face a fourth and three at the 20. and they decide to go for it, which is a bit risky considering everything that goes into that. And guess what? They get it because Joe Burrell is able to step up and in Fintner Hudson for an 11-yard gain. So those two plays to me were just foreshadowing what we saw from Joe Burrow, where he started this game 15 of 15 for 104 yards in a touchdown. At one point, he was 22 of 27 for 175 yards and three touchdowns. That's when the Bengals took a 31 to 10 lead taking command of the game in the third quarter.
Starting point is 00:03:07 He was lights out. He was insane. And yet, I think a lot of people have seen by now Joe Burrow was also pissed off after the game. He was not happy, which is not what I thought I would see, especially considering at one point he was 22 of 27 and he did end up tying a career high of five touchdown passes. I think there is, I guess, that's emblematic of his professional. and his strive to be perfect, something that he's talked about this year. There were mistakes. It wasn't a perfect day on offense.
Starting point is 00:03:39 The third quarter, the beginning of the fourth quarter, where I should say the late third quarter of the beginning of the fourth quarter weren't inspired. They started the third quarter with a touchdown. But then they have four drives in the middle there that were, I think, a total of 16 plays for 33 yards. They had the pick six mixed in there. They had a drop from Jamar Chase or two mixed in there, one of which was on Joe Burroughs best vertical pass of the game, a go ball to Jamar Chase, it dropped in the breadbasket.
Starting point is 00:04:04 And Jamar, I guess, Joe Goodberry tweeted too late hands. You've heard of late hands. And that was a two late hands play for Jamar Chase trying to cradle it. Mostly with one hand, realize I think a little bit too late that he could have gotten his second hand to the ball. And around that time was when Burrow looked visibly annoyed on the field. He also took the extra hit for Max Crosby in this game. But he played at a really high level. And that's, I think a bigger takeaway. It's important to understand that Joe Burrow is going to hold himself to a high standard. And as he said after the game, it would be folly to only focus on the good and to totally ignore the bad.
Starting point is 00:04:42 And so he's going to make sure that he's aware of the things that went wrong so they can improve on those in the future. One repeated mistake, for example, is going to a play too many times. The pick six is going to that play too many times. Another one is just getting the play calls and substitutions too late in critical moments. and that leads to a delay of game down on the one or two yard line. And so, like, there's things like that Joe Burroughs thinking, like, we need to iron these bits out. We can't have these mistakes.
Starting point is 00:05:09 We especially can't have these mistakes in crucial moments or in crucial parts of the field. And in this game, there was enough of a cushion that they didn't end up mattering all that much. And it's overshadowed to me by how well Burrow commanded this game. When you're listing those stats, yeah, there's a great completion percentage there, but the yardage shuttle isn't that high. There's a lot of underneath stuff in this game,
Starting point is 00:05:28 a lot of matriculating the ball. down the field in this game. But Burroughs' pocket movement was awesome in this game. You alluded to that earlier. That's when Joe Burrow is at his best, is when he is evading rushers and making plays happen outside of structure. His first four touchdowns come when he's flushed from his spot one way or another and making plays under pressure for touchdowns in big moments.
Starting point is 00:05:50 He was really good in that capacity in this game. And when his pocket movement, pocket awareness reaches this level, that's when you see the really, really great top-level performances from Joe Burrow that we've seen from him with the Cincinnati Bengals, and you saw from him when he became that first round, first overall pick prospect at LSU. For sure. And by the way, that's how they had to play today. They had no one that could go vertical outside of Jamar.
Starting point is 00:06:15 And guess what? Teams want to take that away. So we knew that coming in, right? It would be the, at least the moment inactives came out, Jake, even though we kind of knew that before. And we'll get the germane Burton coming up, but that's how they had to play. And that's why when people say, oh, well, they're three and five, they're done. Sell, trade everybody, do this, do that.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Nine exists. And in number nine, there's maybe one guy on the planet like number nine, and he's not playing like Joe right now. So when that's the case, it's really tough to say, all right, sell. and he's got to do that again, 96, 98-ish hours from now as we record this. He's got to play at a really, really high level again. And I think that's part of why he had the attitude he had. It's like, man, we got to be buttoned up here. We can't have these stupid issues against the Raiders at home when we're about to go into a madhouse four days from now with our season on the line.
Starting point is 00:07:21 And I like that attitude. I like that mindset. I like that he's like, all right, well, we're. We dropped 40 on the Raiders, but that's not going to help against the Ravens, who also dropped 40, by the way, and just kick the crap out of Denver. So I do like that, and I think that that attitude, that mindset that he had was felt by, at least some of the veterans. I didn't talk to every single veteran in there, but multiple veteran guys, key pieces,
Starting point is 00:07:46 starting level players that are going to play a factor four days from now. But yeah, Joe Burrow playing at an extremely high level right now, really impressed by him, that opening drive, set the tone for this game. And I say it a lot, but at least after wins, when you win and then there's some mistakes to clean up, it's almost the best of both worlds because you get the win. But then you can also be really critical of yourself and annoyed and have that extra to get better. Now, it sucks because it's a short week, so that extra umph better kick in right away at the same
Starting point is 00:08:21 time, I do think the main takeaway. And we hadn't even planned the show around Burrow. But I do think that the main takeaway is Joe Burrow is awesome. And anytime you have an awesome quarterback, regardless of the drama or the injuries or the guys that you don't have, it can hide a lot. And it hit a lot today against a flawed Raiders team. Yeah, it overcame instances where the initial play call or the intent of the play wasn't there. And the Bengals scored touchdowns on those plays instead of taking negatives or mediocre. plays because Joe Burrow was playing at such a high level in this game from the touchdown to Mike
Starting point is 00:08:58 Keseki, which was, I think, his best pocket movement of the game where Max Krosby comes free on a stunt through the A gap and Joe Burrow is able to maneuver around and stay in the pocket and locks eyes with Keseki in the scramble drill before finding him open in the corner of the end zone. That's an extremely high level of play, not to mention the throw to Drew Sample, the Chase Brown throw. And so a couple of other guys that did stand out on offense in this game. Maybe that's where we go next. Mike Keseki, awesome game.
Starting point is 00:09:26 And a really high-level game, I thought, for Chase Brown, who had a monster workload in the wake of the Zach Moss injury, which really highlights, again, a depth issue that we're going to be talking about, I think, in less than 24 hours here on the show, James, where they are dealing with some injuries right now that might force them into some moves. Maybe not. Maybe they'll deal with Kendall Milton and, you know, whoever the next man up a tight end is,
Starting point is 00:09:50 depending on what happens with Eric Hall, but some of the injuries in this game might have some, or this week and this game, might have some lasting repercussions as well. We will stay on the topic of the offense to wrap up there before getting to the defense. Honestly, played a pretty dang good game today as well against a battered and low talent, frankly, Raiders offense.
Starting point is 00:10:11 We will discuss those topics here as we keep the show going coming up next. This episode of Lockdown Bengals is sponsored by Robin Hood. You pick two to five stat projections and whether the player is going to go for more than or less than those stat projections. Maybe you think Jamar Chase is going to have over his prize picks projection for receiving yards against the Ravens, or Joe Burroughs is going to throw for over his passing yards projection. You can put those together and win up to 50 times your money. It is that simple.
Starting point is 00:11:49 And all you have to do is download the prize picks app today. And use code locked on NFL to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup. Again, download the price picks app and use code locked on NFL to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup. Price Picks, run your game. James, I alluded to big days for Chase Brown, Mike Keseki. Could have been an even bigger day for Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase had a couple of passes that you could call drops been completed. Jamar Chase was awesome, however, early in this game, dragging guys for additional yardage and first downs at times.
Starting point is 00:12:23 And so while there is clearly a problem there when you don't have Germain Burton, and that's a topic that we will discuss, and T. Higgins is still dealing with an injury. And now you have Eric Hall who now is dealing with an injury. There's something that needs to be addressed there, I think. there were other guys that stepped up in this game, and it's worth shouting those guys out as well. For sure. Mike Kiske, he was awesome. He was. Almost even better with that sideline catch.
Starting point is 00:12:50 Yeah, I think you're right. I mean, that catch, I mean, had that gets both beat in on that touchdown, it's a touchdown of the year candidate. I mean, and he still finished five catches, 100 yards on six targets, had the 47-yard touchdown that really put a bow on this game. You're right. Jemar Chase wasn't great. But to me, in Joe Burrow completed passes to eight different guys. Gisicki was the big play guy making a few splash plays in important moments. He had a 24-yard catch that really jump-started one of their touchdown drives
Starting point is 00:13:24 where they were taking command of the game. Chase Brown obviously had the touchdown through the air, five catches, five targets, which is huge with Zach Moss out because Zach Moss is the guy that you really trusted his hands to run routes and all of those things. So for Chase Brown, they not only do that, but also run for a career high, 120 yards, average 4.4 yards of carry. And that average was a bit higher
Starting point is 00:13:46 when it wasn't obvious that they were going to run the ball late. I had a couple explosive runs, including a 21-yarder. Like I thought that that combo, bro to Brown early, bro to Gassiki late, those two guys, Brown and Gassiki,
Starting point is 00:14:02 it's what you needed. Because the Raiders came into this saying, all right, we're not going to let Jemar Chase beat us. Fine. Who else is going to do it? Well, it was Mike Gisicki and Chase Brown. I do think they will need more than this next week. I think that is obvious to anybody watching. Next week.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Four days, baby. Next NFL week. Yeah, I mean, technically it's later this week. You're right. But the Ravens and the Raiders, despite the Raiders beating the Ravens, are galaxies different as quality of football team. And so while I appreciate the office, offensive output in this game.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Taking advantage of a few short fields too, by the way, to get to 41 points and just score 40. It will need to be better next week. And I think they can take advantage of the Baltimore passing defense, which has certainly been faulty this year. I worry about the injury to Eric Al. If that is, as Zach Taylor was worried about it, didn't have full information, was seen after the game in the locker room by you and others, James limping without a brace. but if that, as it was a non-contact injury, is an injury to something around that knee and he's going to miss time,
Starting point is 00:15:11 that really hampers this offense that has come to have a lot of two tight-end stuff in the works. They're getting the ball downfield to Erico last week and this week as well. His role was expanding. Clearly, there was a lot of trust in him from the coaching staff and from the players on offense.
Starting point is 00:15:28 I do worry about the impact of that injury. But if you get Orlando Brown back next week can you get T. Higgins back next week? Big ifs at this point on Sunday. Those would help a lot, obviously, but they tried Tanner Hudson in the Eric Hall motion on the run play they like where Eric Hall motion is behind the formation and is making a block essentially as soon as a ball is snapped
Starting point is 00:15:51 coming off that motion. Didn't go very well for Tanner Hudson. Those are different kinds of players in terms of what you can ask them to do. And the versatility, I worry they will miss with Eric All that they've come to really grow with. and customize the offense around a little bit this year. It would be huge if they didn't have them. A huge, huge, huge.
Starting point is 00:16:09 I mean, that's the kind of tight end they want. It's someone who, and he had two catches for 24 yards, looked like he was going to have a big day through the air, like be pretty involved in the passing game as well, not just Mike Kisicki. So when you have a guy that you're confident in, and they are, and him as a blocker loves the block, but also can make catches like that and run good routes
Starting point is 00:16:29 and be pretty dynamic from a tight end position, and it's huge. And so hopefully it's okay. Hopefully it's not as serious as it appeared. But we'll see. That's the same right knee that he had surgically repaired, had a torn ACL last October in that knee. So hopefully it's not that serious.
Starting point is 00:16:47 We'll see. I'm sure we'll have an update in the next day or two. But it seems unlikely that he's going to play Thursday. Maybe, right? Maybe there's some magic that they can work and get him on the field Thursday. But that means you're going to have to pivot on the fly. and that's the challenge with these short weeks. The other thing that I look at with this offense,
Starting point is 00:17:10 and I did think that they overcame it enough, but I do wonder, it is, all right, well, Chase Brown, he's getting a ton of snaps, but are you just banking on him as a pass block? Are you going to rely on Trayvion Williams there? Like, Zach Moss is going to miss time. We haven't covered this. I don't know why I'm acting.
Starting point is 00:17:27 I'm like, Zach Moss is probably out for the season, and he's probably going to go on injured reserve this week. and so I don't have all the details of how he suffered the neck injury on Friday or anything like that. But it's a very serious injury. He's going to miss significant time. What happens there? I don't know. That'll tie him to tomorrow's show as well when we talk about the deadline.
Starting point is 00:17:46 But that's huge blocking pieces when you're talking about Eric Al and Zach Moss. They overcame it today against Max Crosby. It's different on the road in Baltimore, everything that comes with that. So certainly something that will keep an eye on. just in the long term in general. I mean, losing both of those guys as blocking pieces that you'd come to rely on will matter. And it's something where probably they will have to again rely on Drew Sample a little bit in that role. We only saw it a little bit in this game, but we did see Drew Sample lined up in the backfield.
Starting point is 00:18:15 I think he motioned out on the play that I'm thinking of on, I believe it was a third down. I can't remember though, but wouldn't be surprised to see Drew Sample reprising his role as a third down back at times this year. Because Chase Brown didn't need to leave the first half early. He went to that locker room early to go get an IV, I assume. I guess that wasn't confirmed, but that had all the looks and appearances of him just taking the 20 second head start with 20 seconds or 30 seconds left in the first half to go get that IV because he played more than he has, I think, in his NFL career, 59 snaps for Chase Brown, according to PFF charting out of 74 snaps. And the official snap count was a little bit lower. This includes a couple of plays with penalties, I think. But you get the idea he played a lot.
Starting point is 00:18:56 the other thing I want to credit the Bengals offense here for James before we transition to Trey Hendrickson leading that Bengals defense with some others also standing out on that defensive side of the ball, I want to credit them for overcoming the late week game plan change that was reported around Germain Burton. Paul Daner Jr. had some reporting on this. We'll talk about it toward the end of the show as well. The shift in the gameplay there, I think Zach Taylor even acknowledged it after the game.
Starting point is 00:19:24 and then you lose Eric all in the middle of the game, you have to make another big adjustment from a game plan that was going to be heavy 12 personnel, two tight ends, heavy three tight ends. And so they managed to put up 41 without all the players they were missing and hold up against Max Crosby, I think pretty well for the most part, considering the quality of player he is. And they did that while missing players and having to make major offensive game plan
Starting point is 00:19:48 adjustments. And a lot of that credit, to me, going back to the beginning of the show, goes to Joe Burrow and his ability. to make place. Yep, I agree, and I think that that's the segue. Sorry, Trey Hendrickson, we're going to push you a few more minutes. We'll talk about Jermaine Burton, and then we'll get to the defense. I promise, but I think people want to hear about the Jermaine Burton stuff
Starting point is 00:20:09 and why they had to scramble. So we can discuss that a little bit coming up next. Time is our most precious commodity. Starting point is 00:22:04 That's fandul.com where you never have to waste a hunch and you can make every moment more with Fandul, the official sportsbook partner of the NFL. All right, Jake. Let's get to Jermaine Burton. People upset, probably angry when they saw that Jermaine Burton was inactive on Sunday. And I get it. He's a big part of the game plan. I would have fired him up in fantasy leagues this week if you had him in these deep leagues or daily leagues or I would have planned to. And it's pretty simple. He was a big part of the game plan. Joe Burrough, Zach Taylor,
Starting point is 00:22:36 praising him all week, the team rallying around him a bit, knowing that this was a must win, knowing that he has talent. And, well, he stubbed himself in the toes, so to speak. No call, no show on Saturday. Multiple sources told me. And I talked to his agent. I could pull up the text. Talk to his agent about it. And he basically said I'm paraphrasing, but he said that Jermaine's got to grow and mature. And obviously, he was inactive for a reason. And so who knows if there's more there to it than that? But a Saturday walkthrough is super easy. Like any of our listeners, you, me, anyone can make it through a Saturday walkthrough and like, But it's not like you have to run 60 routes or something like that.
Starting point is 00:23:24 And so that's what I know. Maybe there's more there. Maybe there's not. But that's at least part of the reason why he was inactive on Sunday. It's easy to speculate based on the fact that this is a second healthy scratch that this isn't his first disciplinary issue. That it's come to a repeated issue at this point. it's impossible to know exactly what the details are. And Zach Taylor is saying after the game that he has to take care of his business,
Starting point is 00:23:55 multiple Bengals talking about doing the little things or needing to get him the support he needs to find stability and his platform to succeed in the NFL. Whatever they're doing right now is not working well enough. And it's disappointing for so many reasons. One, it's disappointing that a player would just no-call no-show to a Saturday walk through when that's a very basic and important part of your job as an NFL players to show up for practices and walkthroughs, et cetera.
Starting point is 00:24:24 You don't do that. That's like mind-blowing stuff to me, right? Like that's crazy levels of insubordination that go beyond what I imagined was going on with Jermain Burton that I thought was all quite little. And it was interesting to hear it described as like you need to do the little things right when you have all the potential that Jermain Burton has because to me that's a big thing, like showing up for work. That's a big thing.
Starting point is 00:24:46 But when people say that, like, it's because it's easy. Yeah. It's the easiest thing. But it's so big. It's not, it's not play. Oh, for sure. Well, obviously, right, it's so big that he's inactive after the game plan for six days. You know, not six days, but all week thinking that 81 is going to get 15 targets.
Starting point is 00:25:03 Like, not that many, but Jermaine might get double-digit targets if he had played the day. Like, very realistically, you could have seen Jermaine get a ton of targets, downfield stuff, off-script stuff, maybe like who knows and so that's just what's so frustrating about it right is no doubt they'd put all this in and we talked all week about it because they were talking all week about it you can see the writing on the wall from the film last week and the way that he bounced back from being a healthy scratch and was putting the the momentum was there and he knew the opportunity was there it's not like he just like was going to find out Saturday like hey by the way jermaine we're going to get you 10 targets tomorrow if you show up to work today they weren't keeping it
Starting point is 00:25:40 for a surprise he knew and with that knowledge that something happened that he didn't show up on Saturday, or he made a decision, or he made a series of decisions. And on the one hand, like, I don't think, by the way, I've seen this speculated, so I'll just say that. I don't think, and I guess I can't speak for it, but this wasn't him being like,
Starting point is 00:26:03 oh, I should have been used more earlier, and so I'm not going to show up, just to be clear. This is him being irresponsible. It's definitely the way to describe it. And so, yeah, I'm confident in saying that point. So whether it's, you know, you're upset with the player himself, you're upset with whatever they've, whatever choices they've made from trying to get him the support structures he needs that aren't clearly doing enough.
Starting point is 00:26:28 There's plenty of blame to go around here, but it's disappointing no matter which way you look at and no matter what your perspective is that we did not get to see what they had planned for Jermaine Burton in this game. I think there was every intention, obviously, telegraphed, admitted for Jermaine Burton to be big part of this week's game. And it's frustrating that we didn't get to see it. Luckily, they still won in fairly convincing fashion. So we're not, you know, starting fires or anything about it.
Starting point is 00:26:52 But it's disappointing no matter what your perspective is. And it's, again, I think when we were talking about this before we started recording in the lead up to the show, part of my frustration was like, this is just crazier than I could have thought, just not showing up on a Saturday before an NFL game when the week went the way it went for you. Yeah. I hope it gets straightened out. I hope he gets straightened out because of the future could still be bright.
Starting point is 00:27:20 It's not like he was 10 minutes late. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? That would be a little thing to me, right? Like it's so big, but more understandable. That's what was in my head when I was like, yeah, they're disciplinary issues. Okay, he's like five, ten minutes late here and there.
Starting point is 00:27:33 And by the way, we're talking about Zach Taylor here. If there was a reasonable reason, this doesn't become a thing. right he'd be like all right well clearly it was it was something dumb it just was otherwise he could be like all right fine we're still going to be active i mean they caught up kentrick prior yeah who caught his first NFL catch did it good job congrats by the way you run the right route you get nine yard catch no i mean heck yeah um all right let's get to tray hendrickson trey hendricksson domination just domination against some of these backups the ravens get
Starting point is 00:28:10 dealt with some injuries. And so Trey Hendrickson took advantage of it with a career day. Four tackles. Seven quarterback hits. Four tackles for loss. And four sacks, a forced fumble past defense. Trey Hendrickson, just a monster, especially in the second half. I think all of those tackles for loss were sacks.
Starting point is 00:28:32 If you're looking at the ESPN box score, I think those are counted. The same? The stats on the look at have. Oh, where did you get that? looking at the official NFL box. Interesting. I think they also double count them because in total I see Hendrickson with four sacks and no other tackles, but perhaps I am missing something there. Regardless, a monster day for Trey Hendrickson as a pass rush or taking advantage of
Starting point is 00:28:57 an offensive line for the Raiders that we thought was suspect. And not just Trey, but definitely led by Trey who had that monster game. We had some complimentary flashes from Miles Murphy, from Joseph O'Sai, from Chris Jenkins from even McKinley Jackson on one play that led to a Trey Hendrickson sack. And also a promising day with some really good success for Jermaine Pratt as a blitzer. The pass rush in general was working in this game against a really depleted and not very good. Raiders offense, especially when Gardner Minchu left the game. Desmond Ritter was not equipped to deal with the kind of pressure the Bengals were bringing to bear.
Starting point is 00:29:35 And you can see what a difference that makes for defense, right? not to say that the Raiders are great or anything, but even poor offenses are going to look way worse when your pass rush is working. And it was nice to see the pass rush working in a game where we thought it had chances to work. I mean, and especially when Colton Miller left, and especially then when Andrews Pete left
Starting point is 00:29:54 and they were down to their third left tackle, Trey Hendrickson should have gone off, and he did. He took ample advantage of that matchup. Yep, he did. He deserves a lot of credit. I mean, putting up some huge numbers as of now leading the NFL in Sacks.
Starting point is 00:30:08 just insane. But you're right. It was a collective effort. And by the way, that's how it should look against bad teams. That's what good teams do to bad teams with backup offensive linemen and backup quarterbacks. They do that. And they get pressure and they make plays and they force turnovers and they take advantage of the fumble in the backfield. And so that part has to continue where you're being disruptive and you're forcing those things because it's it's going to get harder but it's a heck of a day today jake our first time my first time recording if you're watching on youtube with paycourt stadium in the backfield this year including preseason but they actually won there you know we go shout out to mike hilton as well on defense who is generally awesome in this game awesome in run
Starting point is 00:30:58 support awesome in the screen game and uh jordan battle for a really nice pass break up early in the game to get the defense's first stop, essentially manned up on the point of a bunch against Brock Bowers, playing the ball through the catch point and raking it out from Brock Bowers, who early was a concern, man. Like, they tried three different guys, three different approaches. They tried DJ Ivy. They tried Jordan Battle. They tried Zone.
Starting point is 00:31:23 And it looked like Brock Bowers was just going to do Brock Bowers things. And he's still really good. And he had a really good game. And he finished with a touchdown against the Bengals backups late in the game. But shout out to Jordan Battlefell. for helping to get the Bengals off the field for that first stop before the Raiders kind of fell apart thereafter. And a nice effort from the defense doing what they should have done
Starting point is 00:31:42 for the most part against a Raiders offense that just isn't good enough. And like you said, it gets much tougher. So while we were concerned about the start, that first drive for the Raiders, that's what Q told me might happen. The Raiders have been good on their scripted drives and have fallen apart after that. That is exactly how this game went. the turnovers remain an issue for the Raiders. And now we got a short week.
Starting point is 00:32:06 We got a short week to cover the trade deadline and get ready for Baltimore and hopefully get some new acquired players up to speed in time to play in that game. Hey, Duke, Bengals Brun Office, time to make a deal. And don't wait until Tuesday, 4. I want to be back with Jake on Sunday night doing a trade deadline special because it's a short week, which means that I want to do some kind of, oh, my God, they traded for this guy. he's going to be in the building Monday, passing his physical, and getting ready for Thursday night against the Baltimore raid.
Starting point is 00:32:36 So we'll see if that happens. If it does, well, obviously have you covered. I'm trying to speak it into existence, Jake. Otherwise, we can talk about the trade debvine on Monday afternoon. We're going to post our show a bit earlier on Monday, our trade debvine special. So stay tuned for that. If nothing happens between now and then. And hopefully this is a year they make a move.
Starting point is 00:32:54 Reports, Diana Rossini, Jeremy Sauer, indicate that they are earnestly exploring moves. Rusini going so far as to quote a GM who had talked to the Bengals about a trade, the GM informing her that they were seriously actually looking to get some help. That help apparently targeted so far on the defensive side of the ball. Curious to see if Sunday changes that at all. Running back? Injuries they have it running back and a tight end now potentially. Receiver?
Starting point is 00:33:22 You could talk about a lot of different positions for the team. We will on the show. And we will get to that in our next episode is, James is alluding to when we talk about the trade deadline in fuller depth. Until then, thanks for listening to this episode of the Lockdown Bengals podcast, Hoodey and have a good one.
