Starting point is 00:01:16 after that concert you're going to be too tired you're going to need a nap locked on NFL mock draft special was very chalk was sometimes boring right we can all admit that right it was kind of boring But it was very informed. I think the takes were good. The information was solid, as always. The NFL drafts a little bit less boring. I mean, the first trade coming up pretty quick. I think the board really didn't shake up too much from that trade.
Starting point is 00:01:37 But, you know, first trade coming to pick number two. So some exciting things. But, of course, the most exciting thing all weekend long is the amount of times you heard the name, Shador Sanders, and it was not for good reasons. We're going to kick off talking about that. But we got plenty of draft conversations coming. All coming from Ross Jackson and Locked on Saints, Cody Work, Locked on Broncos, James Yarko.
Starting point is 00:01:56 of locked on bucks. Nick Cattels, locked on Patriots. Welcome, sir, to your first NFL squad episode. Thank you, Kevin Ostriker, Locked on Ravens,
Starting point is 00:02:03 Aaron Freeman of Locked on Falcons. Of course, I'm David Harrison, of locked on the best team in the NFL. So, guys, Shudor Sanders, you come back to my show, Dave. You're not talking yet.
Starting point is 00:02:14 I'm going to kick it off with Nick, actually. So we're going to let the newcomer go first. What were your thoughts as Shador Sanders continued to slide? And when did you think the Pats might draft him to replace Drake May? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Can I just, say, T's and P for Mel Kuyper, tease and peas, because I just want to make him. He was able to get through that very challenging time of his life. I don't know what was going on with Mel, my freaking goodness. Like the Shadarra Sanders stuff, what bothered me the most, David, was the fact that I just felt like they were telling one side of the story, which was like, oh, this poor, this poor young man, he keeps falling. And I understand the adversity. All right, falling in the NFL draft is never fun. And I'm sure he was embarrassed.
Starting point is 00:02:51 But he wasn't diagnosed with cancer. He wasn't fighting some real life tragedy. He's going to be drafted in the NFL. His dad is neon Dion. He had his jersey retired at Colorado for no reason whatsoever other than his name is neon. So I just, I didn't feel bad for him as much as apparently some of the people that were doing the TV felt bad for him. But when you read about it, and I'm sure you guys read a bunch of the stuff, he didn't necessarily win a bunch of people over during the process. I don't think the things that were said before the draft helped him at all, either by him or his dad.
Starting point is 00:03:24 And I just thought it was a lack of accountability almost from from like the family and him because they're like, oh my God, we can't believe he's falling. So I think they played a role in it. So the fifth round, yeah, I was surprised he fell to the fifth freaking round. But I wasn't surprised that he fell out of the first after what had been said about. Yeah. Look, that fifth round check hits a little harder or less hard, I should say, a little weaker than that first round check. And yes, I did make the joke because Dionne Sanders did say his son was going to go top five. So, you know, top five rounds of the NFL draft.
Starting point is 00:03:54 is still top five. So he's accurate. And you know what? If that fifth round check isn't enough, he can go sell that roly and make up, you know, some of that cash. Rush Jackson,
Starting point is 00:04:02 locked on Saints. I want to ask you this because there's a very, very specific part of this conversation that Nick just mentioned, Dion Sanders. How much do you think Dion Sanders influenced this whole thing? Because there was a lot of comparisons throughout the weekend of Archie Manning, New Orleans Saints legend, which is why I'm coming to you,
Starting point is 00:04:21 for what he did with his son, Eli Manning and their whole charge. not chargers, sagas. How much do you think that played into it? Yeah, look, I think that's two things. I think that, first of all, it's the difference in time
Starting point is 00:04:31 in terms of when these couple of different things happened and the idea of like, oh, I'm going to pull it, Eli. Doesn't play the way that it does now when you're out there talking about it ahead of time versus when you do it in the moment, like what happened with the Mannings. And I think the other side of all this, too,
Starting point is 00:04:46 that we kind of have to remember is we're in an entirely different landscape in terms of what it is that these players are walking into the NFL, with, the experiences that they have, the lives that they live, the money that they've got, all these other things. And there's going to be people around the NFL for better or for worse that don't like it, that aren't fans of it and that aren't going to sit there and hold your hand, and aren't going to do all these other things. Not saying that Chorra Sanders needed his handheld.
Starting point is 00:05:10 I thought Churor-Sanders was one of the best quarterbacks in this year's draft, but I don't think that he was the quarterback that was good enough to be able to overcome all of the other things that were going on. And I think that where the Sanders situation differs is the fact that if I'm being honest, I don't know how much Dion Sanders helped his son's situation from getting prepared, from getting him ready for what these NFL teams are going to look for, how to play the game, how to interview, how to take everything with gratitude, all these other things. I think those are the things that NFL teams are looking for. And again, like I said, for better or for worse, whether you agree with it or where you disagree with it, it's the environment of the NFL. And so you've shown up
Starting point is 00:05:51 proven something in this scenario when you're already not the quarterback that's expected to go at the top of the board, then you're probably going to run into a situation to where you're going to end up doing yourself more detriment than creating benefit for yourself when you come out and kind of do some of these things. Like when you're, as has been reported, blowing off teams because you don't think you're going to be there and that it's your time and all these other things, that's going to come back to bite you. I think that's exactly what happened in the NFL, which has, I think that we've seen all the way from, you know, certain situations and, you know, different, I'll just say different situations around the league.
Starting point is 00:06:24 There are things that they will absolutely make concessions for that they shouldn't. And there are things that will absolutely penalize players for that they shouldn't. And one of those is, this situation is one side of that spectrum or the other, no matter how you look at it. Ross Jackson dropping a better sermon than Derek Carr did at church this past Sunday. There you go, preach my man. You know, there were a lot of conversation, like a lot of the media members who were, you know, feeling bad for Shador, right?
Starting point is 00:06:49 I heard multiple people, typically former players, saying that you're supposed to be drafted on your talent alone. None of this other stuff is supposed to matter. But Kevin Ostracker locked on Ravens, you cover Lamar Jackson, who runs the ball pretty well, throws the ball pretty well, controls the offense pretty well, but he also represents the Ravens really well.
Starting point is 00:07:08 So is it fair that how you're going to represent the franchise, how you can potentially be the face of the franchise, does matter in these evaluations? No, 100%. I mean, it's a huge part, especially, I mean, I know different positions hold different value throughout the Washington terms of franchise, this, franchise, that. But the quarterback position in the NFL, that is your leader. Like, that is your guy. And, you know, if a guy is going to go in and call out his teammates or, you know, be a big drama person that early in his career, it could cause fractures in the locker room from an early stage.
Starting point is 00:07:43 And you talk about Lamar, this is a guy that is extremely humble. You know, he refers to everybody in the media room is Mr or Mrs. You know, he's very respectful and he doesn't throw his teammates under the butts. You know, he's someone that takes accountability for his actions. And even when it's not his fault, he still takes accountability for those actions and says, you know what? It's on me. I'm the leader. I'm the one that needs to be better.
Starting point is 00:08:05 And so if there's a quarterback who is supposed to be your leader calling out teammates, you know what? Yeah, he ran the wrong route. Or man, he really dropped that ball. Like, man, we could have won, but I did all I could. but hey, you know, sometimes your teammates don't like step up for you. That is the exact opposite of what you need, especially for any team that's looking to compete in win because that stuff, it might not start off with something big, but those cracks start and they do not, they only grow.
Starting point is 00:08:33 They do not get better. Once something cracks, it is very hard to fix. So I think 100%. When you're talking about talent, it's one thing. But there is a lot more to the process, which is why there are pre-draft interviews, which is wide teams try to get to know guys. And look, I don't blame any team. I didn't feel like Shreder was a fit for their culture.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Obviously, he is talented, but there's a lot more that goes into the process. That whole blaming teammates and not taking accountability is exactly what's got Saints fans running Derek Carr out the door right now. Like, that's exactly one of the big reasons why they're not a big fan of what it is that he brought because of that kind of stuff. Yeah, you can't do that. I'll tell you, like, during this whole lead up to the NFL draft weekend, you heard that he didn't interview well.
Starting point is 00:09:14 You heard this. You heard the arrogant entitled. Once I heard that there were interviews, at least some interviews, where he was asked about bad tape and blamed his teammates. I was like, oh, brother, you might be in real trouble right now. I want to ask this last question of this segment to Aaron Freeman, a locked on Falcons. James Jargo, Cody, Rourke, are going to kick off our conversation
Starting point is 00:09:32 of the best draft classes in 2025 this year. But Aaron Freeman, no reason. I'm just kind of picking you a random locked on Falcons. Do you feel bad about Shador getting all those prank calls at all? I prank calls what should I don't even heard of it oh okay I didn't hear any calls over the weekend no no I did not hear no of course yeah no I mean it sucks because like for shador because like he was the story of the weekend and so the prank call for those of you that are been living under a rock like I have for the last couple of days coming from the
Starting point is 00:10:06 son of the Falcons defensive coordinator due to the defensive coordinator deciding you know like, hey, this iPad I got, allegedly, just leave it out for anybody to go and see, you know, my emails and contact information. But, you know, I think the prank call thing became a bigger thing than it probably is because it involves Shador Sanders. And that's seemingly kind of what we're getting at. Like everything around Shradore Sanders seems to be a big deal, even when it's not. You know, whether we're talking about his performance on the football field or, you know, his draft status or whatever, and now this prank call situation. So yeah, man, it sucks, but it is what it is.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Like he's not the first player to get prank called. He won't be the last player to get prank called. It's just, you know, unfortunately for the Albrecht family, Jeff Alberg didn't raise his son smart enough to know that you don't give evidence of your crime. Star 6-9. Your prank call. So, you know, I hope Jeff Albrecht teaches the Falcons defense. of their young core of players much better than he taught his son that's what i'll say
Starting point is 00:11:15 cody roer you just mentioned it right listen i wasn't the perfect kid okay i wasn't a saint myself but you know what and we didn't have cell phones when i was a teenage but you know we did have we did have cameras and we actually had like smaller handheld cameras that people took all over the place and we also had phones to which we would make the occasional prank phone call but like cody just said star six nine used to be able to call back the number that called you but there was also a way to block the number star six seven baby I'm not trying to, like, encourage people out there, but my dad used to tell me there's a smart way to do dumb stuff.
Starting point is 00:11:50 You're in college, bro. Be smarter. Like, if I'm the dean of that university, that's what I'm mad at him. I'm like, dude, are you serious? But you represent this intellectual institution. And this is what you're out here doing. Cody Rourke, James Jarka, Lockdown Broncos,
Starting point is 00:12:03 locked on kick off our best draft class of 2025 conversation. Coming up next on this week's NFL squad, part of the lockdown podcast. Network, your team every day. Starting point is 00:13:17 squad episode post 2025 NFL draft. We were reacting to everything that went down on draft weekend, including arguably the most popular, most talked about fifth round draft pick in history. But now let's get to the overall conversations. And we're going to start with the best draft classes out of the 2025
Starting point is 00:13:32 NFL draft. And in honor of Jamal Murray, the Denver Nuggets, just dropped buckets on the clippers making me a little bit of money. Shout out to Fandul. Cody Rourke, I'm going to let you kick it off, man. Who is your number one? Who's your favorite draft class? of this year. Well, draft class in totality. I mean, like I said, I've only paid attention to
Starting point is 00:13:51 Denver's, but I think when we look at first round picks, I felt like the first round had a lot of value. If you're the Los Angeles Rams, obviously round number two is your most exciting starting point. I like them getting Terrence Ferguson. But let's talk about round one picks. I mean, I was shocked by the Broncos pick with Jaday Barron, but man, that's a great freaking fit to put inside this Broncos defense next to Pat's or Tan. I love James Yarko and the locked on bucks pick there of a mecca, Buka. I wanted him in Denver. I thought that's a great addition there with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Travis Hunter going to Jacksonville was interesting. I was, I wish Spencer was on
Starting point is 00:14:26 this show because I was going to say, what are the Browns doing, trading out of number two, where they could have had a chance. Ideally, you could have had Travis Hunter and Shadur centers when it was all said and done. But so many good picks across the board here. The Eagles as well, I hate to give them credit because everyone always hipes up Howie every year. But them getting Jahad Campbell was really good as well. I felt. like the first round contained a lot of value from top to bottom. And as you mentioned earlier, I felt like it was more entertaining or more twists and turns ultimately than our locked on NFL mock draft that we had. But man, it was it was entertaining. I think a lot of teams came
Starting point is 00:14:59 with some great players in around one of this year's draft. It's hard to just pinpoint who actually wanted. Yeah. You know, it's actually impressive. The closer we got to actual draft weekend, I started to have more and more guys that I liked in like the first round or at least like really early day too. I'm like, you know what? Maybe there's more talent in this class. We really gave credit for most of the draft buildup. I love the Travis Hunter pick by the Jackson's being bold, moving up and going getting him. And if you've heard the answer that he gave to an amazing
Starting point is 00:15:24 question during his introductory press conference where he's asked who wins Travis Hunter, the receiver of Travis Hunter, the DB, that question asked by Tony Wiggins of Locked on Jack. So if you've heard that quip and you've laughed at it, you owe him a sub. So go over there right after this and sub to Lockdown Jags. And also listen, because Tony's that funny,
Starting point is 00:15:41 all or leads into that kind of funny conversation. Also, the afternoon host of Locked on NFL. else. So you can go get them in multiple different places. But enough plugging there. James Jarko locked on the Ohio State Buckeyes wide receivers. I love, love. So behind the curtain here, guys, James Jarko hates Ohio State. Absolutely hates Ohio State. He picked James Pierce Jr., the Tennessee edge rusher in the mock draft special for the network. And I told him, I don't cover the bucks anymore, but I still pay attention. I don't like the pick. And he was like, yeah, well, your opinion doesn't matter anymore. He said, okay, too shush. So the fact that he, the fact that he,
Starting point is 00:16:15 he didn't get the pick that he made and he got an Ohio State receiver. Love it. James Arcoe, your favorite class and why? Beside the Buccaneers, because they had a great draft class. Yes, they did. Oh, H. They got your guy from Ohio State. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, from Notre Dame.
Starting point is 00:16:31 You got to love that. Yeah, after the first round. And highest drafted players in Buccaneers history from Ohio State and from Notre Dame, fun fact. But no, I, Cody and I were talking before the shit. show that, you know, Bucks were expecting defense. And I talked a lot about Jaday Barrett. And then he was talking about how Broncos were expecting offense. He loved Amico Abuka. But no, honestly, I love what the Carolina Panthers did, man. Like, I think they had a really,
Starting point is 00:17:00 really good draft. You can see what Dave Canales is trying to do that. Not enough people are talking about the Panthers potentially being a problem. You know, if not this year, definitely by next year. But they go out and they get their big receiver. Dave Canales gets his Mike Evans. Ted McMillan and then you bolster the edge with Scorton and Prince Lee, Um and Meeleyn, uh, another Ohio state guy that I really liked a lot. You got safety, Lath and Ransom back there and out. Like, and I liked Trevor Etienne more than I think a lot of people did just because I can, you know, he's not going to be your lead back. He's not going to be, you know, that thousand yard guy, but he is going to be that kind of Swiss army and I think
Starting point is 00:17:41 could do a lot of different things for that offense. So I, I think what Carolina, did was pretty special. We might look back on this here in two or three years and talk about how this was the draft class for Carolina that turned them around and made them contenders for the NFC South. I want to make good. I was I was kind of forced to make a bull prediction on a show a couple weeks ago about the NFC South. My bull prediction was the Panthers are going to win the NFC South this year. So I'm all in on it. And I know the NFC South hosts are in here right now and I'm doubling down. The Panthers are going to South. We're doing it. Carolina. You know what? Maybe even the late
Starting point is 00:18:17 the Super Bowl. Who knows? You know, I don't against the Ravens, but I will now. Who did? We're making enemies tonight. You know, there's probably some people watching this right now,
Starting point is 00:18:29 or listening to this right now, thinking, man, locked on bucks hoves, giving the Panthers some love. What an unbiased guy he is. But what he didn't mention is, that Dave Canales, former office coordinator for the Buccaneers. So there's a whole lot of bias.
Starting point is 00:18:39 For a year. For James Jargo. I'm not even praise on Liam Cohen. Yeah, you're good. You worry about it. We're done. I've got on Patriots. I hear the Pats had a pretty good draft weekend as well.
Starting point is 00:18:49 What do you think about their class? Yeah. I mean, look, I'm going to sound like the ultimate Homer, but I do think that they had a really good draft. And Dame Brugler had them ranked as the top draft in this year's, with this year's class. And,
Starting point is 00:19:00 you know, the question is obviously Will Campbell. I think that's the, that's like the most polarizing pick. I can't tell you how much arm length I've talked in the last couple of months. I can't do it anymore. But if Will Campbell ends up being at least an average, if not slightly above average left tackle for the next decade,
Starting point is 00:19:17 then I mean, they just added so many different pieces, the dynamic element to their offense, which has been missing. You bring on Trayvion Henderson and what he can do in the past and one. That was my God. Right? His past protection is just bananas.
Starting point is 00:19:31 But he's just a home run threat and they haven't had a home run threat. And if Kyle Williams works out, I mean, I think here in New England there's a lot of PTSD from their terrible drafting and especially at that position. But if Kyle Williams at 69 ends up being the guy that they think, he can be another dynamic guy that can get down the field, be that ex-receiver they've been dying for. If he can bring that skill to this offense, then they've gotten better. I don't know if I'd
Starting point is 00:19:56 go, you know, 10-11 wins better just yet, but I do think that Vrable has brought in kind of a new attitude. And I think that they focused on guys that has certain traits. They want high football IQ guys. They want guys who have great character. They drafted a bunch of captains from their college teams. They believe in that. So, yeah, I mean, I think even Jared Wilson and Joshua Farmer, and then you go down to the fifth round and you get Braden Swinson, who, you know, had like a pass rush win rate of better than 22 percent last year at LSU. So I think they did a great job. But as we all know, you know, we all, we can give grades the day after, but we'll find out two or three years,
Starting point is 00:20:36 the execution, like the most important thing, David, that stood out to me. And I don't know how much, I'm sure you guys watch this as well as you're watching the draft unfold is like, does the team understand the board? Does the team understand certain runs at positions? Last year, the Patriots didn't do a good job of that, right? They traded out of the spot. Ladd McConkey gets picked and, you know, they lost on the left tackle and tackle run in the second round. They tried to get back up into that. They weren't able to. This year, they were ahead on runs. They traded up to 137 for Joshua Farmer and three out of the next six picks were defensive tackles. So they were a head-on runs this year.
Starting point is 00:21:11 It just felt like they had a really good handle of the board. Yeah. I got a better handle than Bill Belichick does right now on his PR. There are a lot of those names used rattled off were guys that I just, I had all over my commanders, you know, quote-to-goat big board that was coveting for them. Trivion Anderson, like at number 29, I would love Trevion on Henderson, even at number 29 to the Washington commanders. But fortunately, commanders, Patriots, joint practices, so at least I'll get to see them and cover them for, you know, a couple days, two or three days. So that'll be a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:21:37 We'll kicking off next. we're going to talk about the quarterbacks that went in this year's class, where they went, who has the most chance of success? Before we do that real quick, Cody Warc likes to throw me on the spot every once in a while, ask me my thoughts on a specific topic. David, your thoughts. Not here because the Dallas Cowboys had one of the best classes this year. And we're at a time, so I'm not going to be able to dive into that. But best quarterback situations coming up next on this week's NFL spot up.

Starting point is 00:23:07 Wrap it up this week's NFL squad episode post-2020-nepld draft. The most important position on the field, of course, is the quarterback. So that is how we're going to wrap this thing up. We start with the quarterback. We're going to end with a quarterback. And there's only one person here covering a rookie quarterback this year. That is Ross Jackson of Locked on Saints. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:23:26 Did you trade up in our mock to get Jackson Dart or were you just going to? I can't remember anymore. I did trade up to get Jackson DART And I almost traded up to get Tyler Shuck Just to really drive home that I knew where this was going But I didn't do it Well Jackson Dart a team did trade up to get him That was the New York Giants
Starting point is 00:23:45 The New Orleans Saints did get Tyler Shuck That's spelled with a G.H for those of you Who Hate the American English Language 40th pick overall to the New Orleans Saints Is he the next, I don't know Archie Manning? Is he the next Drew Brees? Drew Brees wasn't drafted by the Saints But that's okay
Starting point is 00:24:00 Nope, but he is the next starter for the New Orleans Saints. That's for certain, or at least I'm certain that that's going to be the case. I believe that Derek Carr will be out of New Orleans by the time that this season begins, either because he is literally out of New Orleans or because he undergoes surgery and then isn't able to play in 2025. But in any case, I think Tyler Chuck's going to be the starter for the New Orleans Saints, at least at some point during the 2025 season won't be shocked if it's week one. So what are the Browns going to give up to get Derek Carr? Sixth round pick.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Shoulder Sanchez. See the Saints, you see the Saints traded a six round pick to the New England Patriots this offseason in 20206 to get Devon Godchaw here to New Orleans, get him back to Louisiana. So what the Saints can do is call up the Cleveland Browns and say, hey, if you got a six round pick, you don't have to fight for him on the market with the Indianapolis Colts. just give that six round pick back and then all good. You know what I mean? So I think that's the play here. Yeah. Perfect.
Starting point is 00:25:03 You know, so I thought it was funny. I found this Yahoo Sports. I don't know if we're a lot of shout out of their outlets. I found this, this thing from another outlet. And most of their quarterback takes are listed with a name. There are a couple late rounders, especially that are like written as staff.
Starting point is 00:25:21 But the first one that's written as staff is Dylan Gabriel, Cleveland Brown's third round pick, quarterback out of Oregon. And I mean, it basically just kind of highlights the entire weekend where it just basically slams Gabriel for happening to be the guy that gets drafted by the Browns before they draft Shador Sanders. If there's somebody I feel bad about the Shudor Sanders story, it's actually Dylan Gabriel because he didn't pick who picked him.
Starting point is 00:25:46 He didn't pick other teams to pass over him. And he certainly didn't pick to be the guy taken right before Shitter Sanders got taken. Yet he's getting a lot, a lot of strays here. Kevin Ostrueger, I want to ask you this, when training camp ends, if you have to predict and you have to, because I'm putting you on the spot as an AFC North representative, who is higher on the Brown's depth chart? Dilling Gabriel or Shador Sammers? I thought you were going to go. Who's starting?
Starting point is 00:26:12 I would have said Joe Flacco with the years. I might have to go that far just yet. If I had to pick which one, I'm going to say it's going to be Dylan Gabriel. And I just think that's because I would hope that Cleveland, and again, maybe I'm hoping for a little too much. but I hope that Cleveland will do the right thing and be fair in the process and not just give it to Shadar because of all of the coverage. And I think that it's not that Shadar isn't talented. I'm not trying to say that whatsoever. But I think that Gabriel fits a little more of what they want to do.
Starting point is 00:26:40 And I think that he's a little more ready for them right now. Now, are they going to win a Super Bowl? I don't know about all that. All right, Kevin, you're going to get the rise out of me you were trying to get from me when you said that the Carolina Panthers are going to win the NFC. I wanted that. I'll allow it now. That is the worst take I've ever heard you give. That is the worst take I've ever heard you give.
Starting point is 00:26:59 Well, then it's the worst take you're going to give to because you're both dead wrong. Shador Sanders is clearly the better quarterback than Dylan Gabriel. What the hell are we doing? I don't care where they were drafted, where they weren't drafted, anything like that. Shador Sanders is clearly the better quarterback between those two. Dylan Gabriel's not going to be an NFL quarterback. He's going to be in the U.FL in two years. He's not even six foot.
Starting point is 00:27:19 He's like five, ten. He's not going to be above anybody on a depth chart. aren't. What are we doing? He threw the fastest mile per hour at the senior board. Except no, he didn't. Except no, he definitely did not. Like, what are we doing?
Starting point is 00:27:33 Like, I understand. I get it. I get it like from the Shador Sanders has a bad attitude side and stuff like that. Like, I'll go so far as to do that. But to pretend like the kid is the worst, is like the worst quarterback in his class, just absolutely ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. I don't think he's the worst quarterback in this class.
Starting point is 00:27:50 If you think he's behind Dylan Gabriel, the worst quarterback. in this class, then yes, you think he's the worst quarterback. Here is the thing. The Browns are going to have to make a decision. And I thought Ian Rappaport nailed it. Nobody wants the circus for a backup quarterback. That's why Tebow was out of the league. That's why Mansell was out of the league. And I'm not saying that Shador isn't as or more talented than those guys. But the Browns are already a dumpster fire. They're not inviting in the media that hyped this guy up to be a top five pick when he was very clearly a backup with starter possible potential. But they're not going to want the media asking after every game when they're struggling, when is Shador going to start? They don't want all the cameras during training camp surrounding Shador.
Starting point is 00:28:40 Then why would Dylan Gabriel be ahead of him? You're contradicting yourself. That makes no sense. They're going to. I cannot wait for the squad show after. the Browns cut him because they don't want to deal with the crap that comes with him. Oh, Gabriel?
Starting point is 00:28:54 I, no. Dang. Now we're just, now we're just, they're not going to touch you. Now we're just openly being ridiculous. They're not going to gosh you.
Starting point is 00:29:00 You all should be ashamed of yourself. Absolutely. Yeah. They're not going to touch the worst. I'm not. Joe Flack. I want no more of this conversation. I was talking about the conversation.
Starting point is 00:29:12 How did Bill and Gabriel get drafted? Like, how did Bill and Gabriel get drafted before Will Howard? Like, do you talk about a guy who? interviews well and did well, that was crazy to me. Listen, the Dillon Gabriel pick, that is the moment where everybody in the commander's media room sat there and said, oh, this is personal, personal.
Starting point is 00:29:30 This is personal personal. Cody Rourke, locked on Broncos. You know a thing or two about rookie quarterback showing up and showing out. So I want to ask you this question. Quinn Ewers, last quarterback taken, 231 overall to the Miami Dolphins. Listen, I'm not wishing it on the guy. I have a lot of conversation. I'm not going to win right now.
Starting point is 00:29:48 A lot of conversations about Tua Tunga by low with Marcus Marriota, very close to Tua, genuine conversations about the young man's health and future and everything else. So I'm not wishing it. But we all know and have to acknowledge that the dolphin starting quarterback has a long history sheet and everybody's kind of just braces for the next one, unfortunately. Is there a chance that if the situation comes up where Quinn Ewers has to go in there for the dolphins, that he's the next Brock Purdy?
Starting point is 00:30:14 No, I don't think that's going to be the case. I think they have a guy in that roster that could do that already in Zach Wilson. But though, Grant and Zach Wilson is a former first round pick. I think Zach Wilson would be a better fit. There was a little bit of a running meme that, you know, with Quinn Ewer's that every, pick he didn't get drafted, every round that passed before he got drafted. Another animal died if you looked at his background. They get another.
Starting point is 00:30:36 That's cool. Didn't he have a T-Rex head up there? So, yeah, the dinosaur head. I don't know if that was real or if somebody photoshopped that. But I couldn't help, but I was like, what are we going to see on the next camera here? I don't see that necessarily with Quinn Ewers. It's interesting to see. I mean, I think you're going to see a lot of NFL teams,
Starting point is 00:30:53 particularly like situations where their quarterback has been banged up, carry three on the active roster. It's a risky move because then you have to designate that guy as your emergency guy. Quinn Ewers could end up on the practice squad, essentially, for Miami or maybe another NFL team there. But, you know, I was talking about Will Howard a little bit ago. I like him in Pittsburgh. I thought he interviewed well. you know, we watched Gruden's quarterback class.
Starting point is 00:31:17 This is a guy who competes well. But for me, if I'm looking at any quarterback, I mean, Tyler Shuck's probably going to play right away and have more of an impact right now. We're not even talking about Cam Ward for all things. Cam Ward going number one overall. Yeah. We're talking about quarterback.
Starting point is 00:31:31 Poor Kim Ward. Cam Ward is the guy who went first overall and it's hardly been talked about because of Shudor Sanders and the whole saga there. So I feel bad there. Check out Locked on Titans with Tyler Rowland. He's going to go off on all that. But, yeah, I actually talk about.
Starting point is 00:31:45 about Cam Ward in the process, by the way. Yeah, actually talking about him. He's going to do it. I think Cam's going to have a pretty solid season this year. I'm very curious to Seattle plays out. But like for your New Orleans Saints, I think there's going to be more of a spotlight because of who the Saints are as a franchise and some of the storylines. You got Oliva.
Starting point is 00:32:03 You've got Alvin Camara. Like they want to find a way to salvage. You even said it, Ross. I know you did it on the Saints Squad Show. I mean, they kind of committed to a rebuild essentially without really saying that they did. that was the path there. And you got to let the young guy experience those bullets. I think retooling, right, is like the popular phrase for we don't want to say rebuild.
Starting point is 00:32:21 That's what we're doing. Renovate. Retooling. Yeah. Reloading. Things like that. So Aaron Freeman, locked on Falcons. Let's wrap it up here.
Starting point is 00:32:29 You also covered a rookie quarterback last year. And he had a very interesting situation where, you know, veteran was starting ahead of them. Things weren't going well. So they made the move. They went to the young guy. There's a couple situations like that. Obviously, New Orleans Saints, you know, things aren't going well. with their veteran before the season gets here.
Starting point is 00:32:46 Newark Giants made no mistake about it. If Russell Wilson struggles early on, that staff, they don't have time. So Jackson Dart could get thrown in the fire very quickly. Of course, Cam Ward, by the way, the number one overall pick of NFL draft here in the 33rd minute of this NFL draft squad show. If Cody doesn't cut a lot of stuff out of this, so I'll ask you, if the next offensive rookie of the year is like the last two offensive rookies of the year, and it is a quarterback, which do you think it is most likely going to,
Starting point is 00:33:14 to be and why is it Dylan Gabriel for Cleveland Browns? I was just I was just going to say it. It is just going to say it. All left-handed quarterbacks are elite quarterbacks. That's all I know. So Dylan Gabriel absolutely will be an elite quarterback to a Michael Pinnock Jr. Dylan Gabriel. It's just going to be the holy Trinity of quarterback. No, of course. I do like Dylan Gabriel probably more than the rest of this panel, but he's not going to be the offensive book of a year. If we're talking about a quarterback, obviously it's going to be Cam Ward if anybody from this quarterback class is going to win it. Obviously, I think Ashton Genti is probably the favorite just because of the nature of the position he plays. We know he's going to get the football. Everybody's
Starting point is 00:33:51 sort of wondering, okay, you know, how good is this Tennessee offense going to be with Camor? It has the potential to be very good. They add in Tyler Lockett. They have my guy, Calvin Ridley, there. They really revamped the O-O line and whatnot. And so you could see the pathway for this Titans offense making a significant jump this year that could make Cam Ward the runaway favorite for the offensive rookie of the year. Now, I'm not going to put the Jaden Daniels expectations on him or the Joe Burrow or whoever else you want to put as elite rookie quarterbacks expectations on Cam Ward.
Starting point is 00:34:25 But there is a path. Things click into place. Cam Ward and that Tennessee Titans team could be a much more competitive team in an AFC South than I think a lot of people expect them to be going into the draft. Yeah, absolutely. So that's a good way to wrap up this NFL squad post-2020. NFL draft episode. Thank you all.
