Locked On Bengals - Daily Podcast On The Cincinnati Bengals - Tycen Anderson's Departure is the Cherry On Top of the Bengals' Disappointing Free Agency Sundae

Episode Date: March 19, 2026

Tycen Anderson's departure means the Bengals have another need to fill on special teams. And while that's not as prominent as needs that fans and the coaching staff were hoping to see filled, it's yet... another thing they'll have to think about this offseason. Jake Liscow and James Rapien break down Anderson's move to Denver, and why they believe the Bengals' coaching staff is probably disappointed they didn't make at least one more significant free agency addition. Starting point is 00:00:00 have some holes left to fill. And now there's another one. Tyson Anderson heads to Denver. You are Locked on Bengals, your daily Cincinnati Bengals podcast. Part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day. What up Bengals fans and welcome to another episode of the Lockdown Bengals podcast. He's James Rapine. I'm Jake. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Today's episode is brought to you by Fandul. Fandals giving you a way to turn energy into bigger potential wins with college basketball parley profit boost. Head to fandle.com to get started. Today we're going to discuss why the coaching staff is probably disappointed with this free agency period. What we think their expectations were the holes that still remain. And now there's a new one, James, in Tyson Anderson.
Starting point is 00:00:52 That's where we start today, Tyson Anderson. Heading to Denver, there are some details around the reporting that you might want to share with the people and some interesting stuff that happened with you. reporting on this Denver reporter debunking it and then the move of course happening because it wasn't actually debunked it just wasn't quite done yet when you've reported it last night on Wednesday night but Tyson Anderson heading to Denver means the Bengals have a new hole to fill and that is special teams ace and we'll talk about you know who took the most snaps on special teams for this team last year i.e. why Orrin Berks is still on the roster and the Bengals do lose a an A and the end of the end.
Starting point is 00:01:35 ace here. They lose a good player at his role, but they also didn't really see him as a defensive player. And so there wasn't a huge market for him and they choose to not match perhaps
Starting point is 00:01:51 a deal he got from Denver, not beat the deal that he got from Denver, and off he goes to play for the Broncos. Yeah, it's a tough one. It's a tough one because it's just another thing that happens when a lot of us are underwhelmed with free agency.
Starting point is 00:02:07 You mentioned the reporting, and I guess I should start there, because our locked-on Bengals insiders were with me on this roller coaster because I let them know before I had the article written that Tyson Anderson was headed to Denver. And you always cross-reference, have another source. My source was pretty close to Tyson. I'll let you guess who. but I don't want to completely go out there and say exactly who, but a close source to Tyson, someone you can trust.
Starting point is 00:02:41 And then you cross-reference it with someone else that would be in the know. And it's like, all right, let's go. Or confirm it would be the right journalistic term. But you get my point. My goodness, Jake. You know, this happened. And I'm like, all right, it's a Tyson-Anderson thing. Like, very rarely, I don't break news much once or twice a year.
Starting point is 00:02:59 I'll have something. And I'm like, yeah, let's roll with it. I didn't think anything of this. Like, there's no like, oh, I'm nervous to type sources. Tyson Anderson has a new, like, I'm not. Because it's, you know, it's one of those deals where it's like, yeah, that makes sense. He's going to Denver. And so write the article, fire it out.
Starting point is 00:03:16 It's public. Everyone's reacting. And then suddenly I get a text like, actually, it's not done yet. There was a miscommunication. We'll see. I'm like, okay. And I didn't get a ton of clarity on that part of the. that is. I'm not going to go all the way into the weeds. But the point is, is you're right,
Starting point is 00:03:35 it wasn't done. Even though I was told it was done, it wasn't done. And then you have a Denver reporter saying it's not close. And that's when I was like, all right, is this happening or not? And I didn't know, like did the Bengals at the 11th hour? It's not like Mike Brown's going to call me like, hey, we're going to get Tyson back in the 11th hour, because I do think Tyson wanted to stay, swoop in. Well, that wasn't the case. Turns out they were just dotting my's crossing some T's and Tyson was always likely going to be Denver bound. And that's exactly what happened. So I tried to be as accurate as possible with those things. And so I was like, I'll just let everyone know that, hey, it's back up in the air. And so it was, but not really,
Starting point is 00:04:18 because 10 hours later, it got done. And you're right. The Bengals have a hole now. And that's the the focus. But I do think that this point, as I toss it back to you, is important. The Bengals clearly didn't trust Tyson Anderson on defense, even though I would have, I would have bench Gino stones behind eight games into the year. And I set it on the pod. And I would have given Tyson a chance because I thought he would actually be able to tackle some. The Bengals clearly didn't believe in him on defense. And so I think that was a factor in him leaving as well. Yeah, if Denver's given him a chance to play defense, it's the same deal, which maybe it's not. He probably got a better deal from Denver than the Bengals offered. That's usually what it comes
Starting point is 00:04:56 down to in the NFL, and if Denver sees him as a player who can contribute on defense, then they probably were willing to pay more than Cincinnati was, if Cincinnati sees him as a special teamer only. So that's probably what it comes down to. But let's say that it is the same deal. And Denver offered him a sub-package rule or talked to him about the vision they had to get him on the field on defense. Well, that can tip things in one direction or another.
Starting point is 00:05:22 And so the Bengals now, probably are going to look at safety, right? We still think safety is something they will be open to in the draft if it's the right player. I wonder if it's not a blow your doors off kind of value if they would look at safety with a premium pick at this point. Like if it's not, we just talked about this yesterday. If it's not like a Caleb Downs, I don't think that they would necessarily would go that direction at this point given the impact. not downs. If it's not done. Yeah. That's what I said. I know. I'm just, I'm just confirming for the people, not you. I got to confirm everything 52 times after the past 24 hours, my friend. James is a little
Starting point is 00:06:06 shell shock. James did do anything wrong, guys. James, uh, I'm not worried about that. Like, I, I, I know I followed the right thing. It's just, it's just wild. That's all. It's fun to pull back the curtain sometimes, though. That's what that was. I think that's interesting. People, people, people get to hear what, what's going on, how it all went down. But the, the, The reality for the Bengals, then, is that they lose a key special teamer. Tyson Anderson had the second most special team snaps for the Bengals last year. He was out there for essentially every special teams play along with Orrin Burtz, who had three more special team snaps, according to Pro Football Focus charting,
Starting point is 00:06:39 sorry, 385 to 382. Tyson was one of the Bengals' best special teamers, in addition to guys like PJ Jules, Joe Giles Harris, Shaka Hayward, according again to PFF charting, Cedric Johnson, also scoring really one. well for the Bengals in these metrics. So now you have to find a guy that's doing all these roles. And this happens every year. Every year around training camp, James, we're talking about like,
Starting point is 00:07:07 oh, they've got to find somebody to do all these special teams things. Pay attention to who's lining up wearing special teams in these preseason games because if they're fringe roster guys and they're getting work in there and they're doing well, that's a path to the roster, right? It's a contributing factor for PJ Jules in addition to playing well on defense in the preseason and maybe that's it. Maybe PJ Jules is that guy that steps into that Tyson Anderson role on defense, but he also played a ton on special teams last year.
Starting point is 00:07:35 And so they will need another guy there. I'm sure they will find another guy there. Dejaun. Dejan Anthony. It's his chance. I mean, those are the backup safeties right now, too. Right now they are. Safety's a need still.
Starting point is 00:07:48 I'll just say that. Right. That's where I was going earlier with like, would they use a draft pick there with those guys being. the backups and not having Tyson because Tyson didn't really factor in a ton to their backup part of the safety room last year as we discussed, not getting opportunities on defense. So that's where it fits together. I think it's mostly a special teams need. I wonder how they see the safety need at this point. Is it just like if we can get that premier talent like a Caleb Downs or is it like,
Starting point is 00:08:19 yeah, we actually would really like another piece in that room. Yeah. It's one of the the many questions. And like, here's what's tough about this. Like, I really like Tyson. I have a good relationship with him. And it's a bummer for me personally to see guys like that go,
Starting point is 00:08:38 like guys that I like. Full disclosure, Logan Wilson retiring. And we'll hopefully hit on that at some point. But like it sucked because I felt like I started to build a relationship with him his final year. And just like get to know him as a human being and not just seem in the locker and say, hey, what the hell are you doing on that fifth or fourth and five or whatever the case is, right?
Starting point is 00:08:59 And so from that side, it's a bummer. Football-wise, I think it feels worse, but it ties back to the thing that a lot of us are feeling right now. And I think that's how we continue the conversation, which ties into the safety needs so we can do that coming up next. Today's show is brought to you by five-hour energy. I can't lie, Jake. I'm running on less than five hours of sleep. How do I do it when I need to do it? Well, five-hour energy certainly helps.
Starting point is 00:09:34 And with 18 different flavors and new options to choose from, it's the perfect time for the five-hour energy flavor draft. And they have a ton of different kinds from confetti craze, a fruity rainbow, cotton candy, or old reliable. You guys know by now that cherry is my go-to five-hour energy. They also have a ton of other flavors from sour apple to tropical burst, watermelon, strawberry watermelon, strawberry banana, Hawaiian breeze. There's something for everyone with five-hour energy.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Make sure that you check out five-hour energy today and get your five-hour energy shots available online at five-hourenergy.com or on Amazon. We're also brought to you today by Fandal. Marsh Madness is literally happening as we record this episode of Lockdown Bengals. There are big games, tight spreads, momentum swings all weekend. And from early tip-off, so late-night West Coast shootouts, there's always action on the board with college basketball,
Starting point is 00:10:28 and Vandals giving you a way to turn that energy into bigger potential wins with a college basketball parlay profit boost. You can build any college hoop parlay you want. Rivalry games, ranked matchups, whatever fits your read, mixed spreads, totals, player props, Miami of Ohio into the parlay, and do it however you see the slate playing out, and then just apply that profit boost, and instantly bump up the potential payout.
Starting point is 00:10:55 Go safe, go bold, ride with the team you've been following all season. It's your parlay, your style now with more upside behind it than ever. Head to fandul.com to get started. That's fandle.com. Fandle, play your game. Jake, the Tyson Anderson loss in a vacuum, like it stinks, like I said. But it's replaceable. It's not like this, oh my goodness, I can't believe Tyson Anderson left the building
Starting point is 00:11:23 type of loss and that gap, that void at safety, backup safety, a reliable safety that can contribute on special teams and be a core special teamer. Like if you go to Darren Simmons and you're like, hey, you're going to have to find the next Tyson Anderson. Well, fine. That's his job. And I think that that's part of it. But it ties back to all of these other things that you and I wanted them to do that a lot of
Starting point is 00:11:49 our listeners and viewers wanted them to do, that they have it done. and then it's almost like the cherry on top of the underwhelming Sunday. Like, oh, by the way, you need to find the next Tyson Anderson and get this guy in here, probably in the sixth or seventh round because we have four picks in those rounds. Like, that's a tough, a tough, like extra cherry on top of, like I said, I'll call it the Underwhelming Sunday and Free Agency. Yeah. And that is just the theme of it, right?
Starting point is 00:12:20 Yeah. Yeah. people aren't ready for any optimism yet so it's disappointing that they didn't do the extra things it's disappointing that they didn't do the extra things because the reasons for optimism that still exist for this team exists for this team and when that reason exists you need to go that extra mile we'll see how it plays out in the season of course there's plenty of time to talk about how we see the roster eventually after the draft and everything coming together and Joe Burge, Marge, and T. Higgins,
Starting point is 00:12:52 and the offensive lines, growth, giving you a chance in all those things. But that the additions have been Boy, Amafé, Brian Cook, and Jonathan Allen. Again, all players we'd like. And, you know, I talked with Jake Burns from Brown's film room the other day for like an AFC North roundtable
Starting point is 00:13:10 kind of thing that he does. And he's like, yeah, from the outside, I think they've done a pretty nice job. They added some good pieces. You listen to Ari Maheroff. Like, yeah, they added some good pieces. They need to do more. That's what we've said too.
Starting point is 00:13:21 But they've added some good pieces. He compared it to the 2021 approach. They added more guys in 2021, of course. Way more. Yeah. You look at the pro football focus grades. They've got Cincinnati at a B for free agency. And they grade on a curve.
Starting point is 00:13:34 I think the lowest grade I saw from them was a C minus. Maybe there was a D plus. But they graded the moves that happened, not the moves that the Bengals didn't make. And so it goes along with that theme, right? Like the players, they didn't keep, the moves they didn't make the holes that now exist, that they will need to fill. And I say all that. And the Bengals actually do have,
Starting point is 00:13:54 I think, one of the more populated rosters at this point around the NFL, like just in terms of having just players under contract. I guess that's changed now since Free Agency. They have 68 players under contract now. So some other teams who have added more aggressively are up there too.
Starting point is 00:14:14 But the commanders who added a bunch of guys in Free Agency also have 68 guys on their roster. So obviously some spots to fill. And now there's no great way to do it. Because the guys that would be worth paying and worth the big deals that we were waiting for like one more deal, right? The linebacker deal or the additional edge rusher. Those guys aren't available at this point. And so what's left to do is probably more of the, all right, let's see who's there after the draft.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Because now they're thinking about the comp picks, right? Which we've talked about a ton. Yes. But I think that's their approach at this point. They're probably waiting for guys who don't count against a formula and who are probably really cheap deals. The Noah Fants and the Dalton Rizner's of last year. And they stole those guys.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Two huge hits. Two huge hits. Despite Noah fans fumbles, who, you know, Engels fans are not going to remember Noah fan kindly. but I think that the signing was a good signing. Yeah, yeah. You do that every time. I would have brought him back for that number now.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Like, you know, like he got more than he just got more. He got to raise a significant one. So look, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the Bengals going out there and winning a game because Joe Burrow, Jamar, Chase, and T. Higgins exist. because it's the most dominant trio in the league when they're on. And we saw that because they were so bad on defense in 2024. And look how close they got to actually making it. And I think back to the Joe Burrow line and quarterback when I think about free agency. And we were watching these guys go off the board.
Starting point is 00:16:06 And like, Osa, Diggi Zua to meet like just makes all the sense in the world. I think Jadavia and Clowney makes all the sense in the world. We can get into what the thoughts are in the building or what we think the thoughts are, at least are in the building. But like the Joe Burrell line from quarterback, there's nothing I can do about it. All I can do is just sit here and watch. And like that's ultimately what it always comes back to. And it defaults to is like we could talk about this every day. I probably think about the Bengals in an unhealthy way because I want to think about every single angle topic thing that might be interesting.
Starting point is 00:16:44 to our listeners and viewers, etc. Like, I think about them far too often. But ultimately there's nothing I can do. No matter how much I yell it, talk about it. Just sit there and watch and see what they do. And I think this free agency was a reminder. It doesn't mean they're not going to be able to win games. I bet you if you ask Joe Burrow this weekend during this flag football thing,
Starting point is 00:17:05 he's doing with Tom Brady, like, oh, yeah, we're going to be great. It's going to be our year. He said that last year, by the way, at the fanatics thing. He was like, oh, we're going to make you proud. he's talking to a kid. Because that's what you say, and you're going to be optimistic, and you're competitive, and you're working hard and all of those things. But it would have been nice if they would have, you know,
Starting point is 00:17:24 landed a starting level edge rusher after losing two of them, a second starting level edge rusher, to be clear. And Joe's got to be thinking mostly about the restructure, right? Like, he sees everyone restructure around him. That's the thing that's probably what's going to say that to him the most. Sort of thumb. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:41 like that is a thing that personally he knows could have happened that that directly involves him right and it didn't happen so I think that's probably the thing that's most noticeable to him he probably likes the players they've added too right he probably thinks all right we've added some good veterans to our defense but it's just like everybody else right like why didn't that restructure happen what are we doing yeah I was speaking of Jadavion Clowny by the way I just for a second speculate nothing crazy i'm just speculating on his price tag um because he hardly actually played last
Starting point is 00:18:19 like he played pretty well for the cowboys but it's the the smallest percentage of defensive snaps that he's played since 2022 like he played more in 2023 and 24 and after 2022 when he signed his next deal that was a small deal for him and then he went to the panthers played a lot on the 20 million dollar deal after he played with the ravens in 23 but coming off of that year where he played less, he only got two and a half million dollars from the Ravens that year. So like if it's four to five million for Clowny, oh my God. Because then you can still play Shamar and Miles. Like that's the beauty of one of these veterans.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Is it just like it raises the floor where if you don't get Bain or Bailey or, you know, I'm going to say it until, you know, I look like a clowny, you know, but that's, that's it. I just, I have an awful joke, but like, it just makes too much sense. And I'm not alone in that. And you're not alone in that. Well, and it's not just on the outside either. And I think that's where we found.
Starting point is 00:19:21 It's not just us. It's not just fans. It's not just media. I think there is probably a level of frustration in that building right now from the coaching staff that some things didn't happen that they were expecting to happen as well. We'll finish the show there coming up next. Today's show is brought to you by Robin Hood. What if sports were traded like markets?
Starting point is 00:19:46 Well, now you can put your sports IQ to work in real time with Robin Hood prediction markets. It's not you against the house. No, no, no. It's you participating in a live market. You can buy or sell your positions live all game long. You use your sports knowledge in the moments that matter. Robin Hood prediction markets changes the game. It's people moving the action.
Starting point is 00:20:08 So when momentum shifts, you can move with it. You always knew the game. never had a dynamic way to apply that knowledge until now you're no longer just a spectator, play by play, you decide trade every play with Robin Hood. Now available across the U.S., download the Robin Hood app now to begin. Futures and cleared swaps trade involving significant risk and is not appropriate for everyone. Event contracts are offered by Robin Hood derivatives LLC, a registered futures commission merchant in swap firm.
Starting point is 00:20:42 Get to a point, James, where the coaches are going to talk up their guys because that's who their coaching. Yep. We're not at that point yet. We'll get to that point probably the next time we hear from coaches after the draft, you know, rookie mini-camp and the OTAs that'll start up after that. And coaches will be like, yeah, we're excited for the group we have.
Starting point is 00:21:02 We're expecting big growth from Barrett Carter and Demetrius Knight and Jordan Battle really came on and we love our corners and we really like the guys we added, man. Jonathan Allen's going to hit the ground and make a huge difference in that room. but boy Maffa is going to hit his outside and really we think he's an ascending play. These are things that you're going to hear in a month and a half or so when we hear from coaches before they start working with the roster when it's put together.
Starting point is 00:21:32 But right now, right now I think that like you, they're like, man, that's it. That's what we did. And I think that was the case last year, too, on the defensive side of the ball to be clear. I think that there were expectations that they would add more than T.J. Slayden and Oren Burks as external guys. Listen to the way Mike Hodges talked about what happened
Starting point is 00:21:53 in that linebacker room last year. And there's a little bit of honesty there that came through with the media. But like it gets to the point where coaches are going to stand with their guys. We're just not there. Yeah, I think that this free agency is disappointing for those in the building
Starting point is 00:22:09 who are responsible for winning, i.e. the coaches and the players, is just as much as it is for a lot of people watching it from the outside who are disappointed. Yeah, I think expectations are really high. And whether it was on record with Duke Tobin, off record with Duke Tobin, any of the coaches, obviously we haven't talked to the big three, right, Katie, Mike, Troy. But outside of that, I think expectations were really, really high. and they added good pieces.
Starting point is 00:22:44 But when you dive into, like, you don't think coaches are aware of, like, the way they structure deals. And, like, oh, well, we can't fit that now because of, like, of course that happens. You don't think coaches see the restructures across the league. And it's like, well, this would create a lot of room for us to get this or that or that. Of course, much like Burrow. And I don't want to pat ourselves on the back here, but, like, you think coaches don't see the stuff that we're writing and saying about the way they're structuring contracts and managing the salary cap too because they see some of this stuff maybe not all of them but i know at least some of them
Starting point is 00:23:20 sometimes pick up on on the stuff that we're talking about too no doubt and like like Andrew whitworth over the years has said like during 2011 to 2015 like we should have just made one more move and he's talked about that with the bengals and how they were just not willing to do that. You don't think coaches felt that in that time. You think it's just Andrew Whitworth. He was just on this island and no one else felt that way. Of course, Marvin likely felt that way.
Starting point is 00:23:51 It's something where the Bengals have gotten better at spending and pushing and being active in free agency. I remember when I, we talk about how the pod's been out since 2016, people now say the Bengals aren't going to do anything. Go back to 2016. In 2017, in some of the, I remember articles I was writing then, and I had a blog on ESPN 1530. And like, the stuff I was doing then was getting shot down because it was like, hey, they should sign this one guy. And there was like, no way are they going to do that.
Starting point is 00:24:23 You know, so I'm not saying they haven't improved. But given what they didn't do last year, given how the last few seasons have gone where clearly there's a talent issue. and that the resources that they had that Duke talked about, we have resources, resources, resources, resources, I would expect them to add more than one edge, one defensive tackle, and one safety. Even if the safety's awesome, even if the edge has a ton of upside,
Starting point is 00:24:54 even if the defensive tackles a former pro bowler and fills a big need for you, love all three guys. It's not enough. And you better believe if we know that, the Bengals coaching staff knows that. that. And honestly, I think members of the front office know that. That's where it gets really interesting is like, how high does it go up? Who's pissed? Who's not? Who thinks they've done enough?
Starting point is 00:25:17 Who doesn't? We don't have the exact picture there. But no one should be excited about where they're at right now after two weeks, essentially a free agency. Well, and the linebackers, again, that we think they went after, tells you that they thought they had a significant role available and significant money to spend at the position. Now, if they pivoted off of that to safety or one of these other guys that they signed, okay, maybe that's what happened. We don't know exactly. But there was, at one point, it's not like the coaches that they're like,
Starting point is 00:25:51 yeah, no, we're going to rock with these guys. We want to count on them. I think that they're hopeful, right? And we've said this this week, too. They're hopeful for the linebackers in year two. You do generally see jumps for linebackers in year two, but they weren't ready to go into the season with that being their only option and now that looks very much like the path they're going down but like from duke tobin on down to the coaches everyone's talking about needing
Starting point is 00:26:14 leadership in that linebacker room they haven't added that bare minimum right like adding leadership in that room ideally also adding a player that helps and maybe there's a guy that's going to get cut somewhere that they really like and that's going to end up being the plan maybe but there were certainly opportunities and I think that's where it is. Like that's kind of the bottom line on this thing, right? The line will forever be kind of, we like the guys they added.
Starting point is 00:26:44 We like Cook Mafay, Alan. We like that they got ahead of Reisner. We see how those guys make sense. I'm glad that Jalen Davis is back. Sure. But it's the couple more moves, even one more. Because we set the standard at five, right? Five starting level players.
Starting point is 00:27:01 Have they gotten four starting level players? If Clowny's here, you can sell me on, it's a really good linebacker draft and maybe Sunny Stiles is there. And if not, then Rob Regis and Gold Day and all these guys. You could sell me on that. Now, I don't love it, but you could. Or if the other way, you get one of those linebackers. And even though I didn't love him,
Starting point is 00:27:23 Quay Walker is suddenly in the building with what you've done. It's like, yeah, we just need to find an edge. And it's like, okay, well, maybe Clowney will be out there in June or July. You know, like maybe that will be the case. Like, so to your point, if you would have gotten 80% instead of 60% it would have felt far more complete. And I know that underwhelming feeling is felt. It is not just us.
Starting point is 00:27:47 And it doesn't mean that Zach's going to come on the show tomorrow and say it. I don't think he's going to say that. But also at the end of the season, he said he thought they had enough talent. And everybody on the planet knew they did not have enough talent. Yeah, he's going to say things because his employers, Cincinnati Bengals and his players are his players. And they're speaking strategically when they're talking to the media. And I think we just saw this play out.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Going back to Tyson, bringing it all together, right? Microcosm of all of this stuff where what is said in the media matters behind the scenes. And that's why you got the strong refutation from the Denver source that was like, no, it's not even close. well obviously it's close it got done imminently like but but that's the kind of language that you use publicly that's why duke tobin talks the way that he talks when he's on the podium about specific players like well i'm not going to rule anything out or you know we would like to get it done we'll see if we can't because you don't want to say like oh yeah we're desperate for role player xyz and then that that gets used
Starting point is 00:28:52 that gets used behind closed doors i think that that's pretty obvious and so yeah i mean you're always going to get coach speak GM speak all that stuff that's just yeah and I I want to prepare people yeah for that because that's going to happen I believe we did enough yeah we added a lot like I'm hoping to hear from Duke before the the draft because obviously it's a huge draft now and there's a lot of pressure with a lot of needs and that sucks because historically I feel like when they have a lot of needs oh my god what are they going to do if they take Jamar chase what are they going to do what are they're going to do. They take probably the worst case scenario, the worst one. Like, that's, that's it. That's, that makes it tough because usually free agency, they leave some holes in
Starting point is 00:29:37 free agency to address in the draft. And if it was just linebacker or just nickel corner, or just backup safety and nickel corner, fine. Like, it's, you can solve that pretty easily. Linebacker edge, nickel corner backup safety. Good luck. There's a lot of fullest of plug. That doesn't even get to offense. They didn't even get to offense. It doesn't even mention tight end and the depth spots. But what they would say, and this will be a conversation for Sunday as we look ahead
Starting point is 00:30:03 to the draft. Here we go. Look at the snap counts last year, guys. What do you mean we need starting linebackers? Our linebackers that played the most snaps last year are still on the team. What do you mean we need another edge? We got, we got Miles Murphy. He played a ton for us last year.
Starting point is 00:30:17 Joseph Osai played a ton for us last year. We replaced those stats and we're just going to grow from our Stewart's role. Samar only played five less napsed and Trey Henderson last year. We're going to add 200 to that. We're going to add a guy in the draft. Cedric Johnson came on for it. Like that's that's what they could be thinking right now. And then they're going to have two injuries during the season.
Starting point is 00:30:39 Yeah. And suddenly that quarterback is going to be on jeopardy. Do do, do, do, do. Just have all the time in the world to sit back there, pump, pump, pump. Touchdown. Man, that just remember that Aaron Rogers play? yeah like you can't move at all he has like 10 seconds man we'll see what hey gino what are you doing gino adkins uh by the way really quick i mentioned it earlier
Starting point is 00:31:07 but shout out the lincoln wellson congrats on uh a really good career and um yeah i i just don't want to don't want to forget that. I think he got enough, enough congrats from the Bengals fan base, but just in case, yeah, literally the only reason we got to know each other on that personal level is I did this MC thing for the jungle jam,
Starting point is 00:31:30 and Logan got thrown into it last second, literally like an hour before it happened, came in, and I was asking him some questions. And from there, we like started to talk about kids and stuff like that. But like, that's it.
Starting point is 00:31:42 It's cool to get these guys, get to know these guys on that human level. And so from a human standpoint, he's got a little kid at home. It's a good time to retire and soak up all that time. Yep. Did well with the NFL. Obviously, there's one particular flag that I'm sure he's not happy about when he looks back on things. But yeah, he had a great career with an integral part.
Starting point is 00:32:05 What I said about an integral part of some defenses for the Cincinnati Bengals that were good enough for them to win the Super Bowl. They obviously didn't. But that's how football goes. You don't win every game that you could win. And he was part of and a big part of some really good defenses that had some really good playoff runs for this team. So remember Logan Wilson fondly, and I'm sure we'll see him in Cincinnati in some capacity at Paycor in 2026.
Starting point is 00:32:37 But let's wrap up there. Tyson Anderson's deal with the Broncos is one year, $1.5 million. according to R.E.A. Polly, NFL reporter, NFL credentialed reporter. So what? A little over, a little over, man. Yeah, a little bit. That might be a veteran salary benefit deal.
Starting point is 00:32:57 I'd have to look at what exactly that number is this year. Until next time, if the Bengals do something, we'll have you covered right here on the Lockdown Bengals podcast. Thanks for listening to this episode, Who Day? And have a good one.
