Starting point is 00:00:01 The pick is in. But the 66th pick in the 2026 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos select Tyler O'Neadem, the defensive lineman from Texas A&M. Starting point is 00:00:23 Cal She trade on anything. I'm Kevin Ostracker, joined now by Cody Rourke from Locked on Broncos. And Cody, the Broncos on the board with the defensive linemen here. was this where you expected Denver to go at this pit? Yeah, well, I'll be honest with you, Kevin, a couple of the weeks ago. I did a bonus episode of the show, and I planted my flag that Denver would probably take a defensive lineman. Now, that goes against the consensus, right? The consensus suggested that Denver would go with a running back, a tight end, or a linebacker.
Starting point is 00:00:53 And there were some options, specifically Max Clare, who went one pick before Denver was initially set the pick at 62. He was off the board. And then after that, Denver traded back to 66 with the Buffalo. bills. So it seems like they're looking at beefing up the defensive line. And obviously, they lost John Franklin Myers this offseason to the Tennessee Titans and replacing him with a player who's six foot four, two hundred and ninety pounds. And I tell you what, Tyler, he can create backfield penetration. He can play everywhere on the defensive line. And that is something that Vance Joseph specifically values inside of his defense. And it seems like Denver has now got
Starting point is 00:01:26 their JFM replacement. What would make you feel confident, Cody, in this Broncos team, after the draft concludes on Saturday. Got a defensive line on the board, but what else do you think Debra needs to do? Well, I think a lot of it has to be just shoring up your depth at certain positions. It wouldn't hurt to add a safety. Denver's got four guys next year who were set to become free agents. So maybe adding some safety depth here.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Certainly linebacker depth wouldn't be a problem right now if they were to add that right now. I think that's going to be an area of focus for them probably going into tomorrow. Look, the night's still young. They might even be able to trade up toward the back end of round three. They have two fourth round picks at 108, 111 that could allow them to move up and make another selection here. But some of the top names that maybe they were interested in Anthony Hill Jr., Jacob Rodriguez, those guys went in places where Denver obviously was not going to be able to trade up to get. So I would expect them to address linebacker and safety with some of their other picks here that are remaining, obviously, in this draft. And they have the first pick now in the sixth round because of the tradeback with the Buffalo Bill.
Starting point is 00:02:24 So the ammunition could give them some opportunities to go out and shore up their depth because they, They have a roster that they are running it back with. Sean Payton hates that term, but that is true. 71 of their current 73 players were on the team last year in some capacity, whether it be the active roster or the practice squad. So Denver believes in the team that they have and they're looking to bolster their depth. And I think that's exactly what this type of draft is for them. As you've watched your AFC West counterpart selections before this pick, Cody,
Starting point is 00:02:53 has it done anything in terms of where those teams are in their quest to catch Denver in the AFC West? So you're still pretty confident in Denver's ability here? I'm really confident in Denver's ability. And look, I think Kansas City, they made some moves out there and obviously get a cornerback, as did the Raiders, because the Broncos, they added, obviously, Jalen Waddle in a blockbuster trade this off season.
Starting point is 00:03:12 So they believe Denver has a very good receiving core that they really like. They believe Bo Nix, going into his third year is going to play even better. They like their offensive line. They love their defense that led the NFL in Sacks last year. And a lot of those guys are back. So very much, Denver doesn't seem too. concerned with what Kansas City, the Las Vegas Raiders, or what the Los Angeles Chargers doing right now. And it seems like those teams are trying to play catch-up.
