You are Locked-on Broncos Postcast, powered by Mile High Sports, part of Locked-on Sports, Denver, on the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
Oh, Broncos country, that is one way to lose a football game.
It looks like the Bow Nix interception wasn't going to hurt him.
It looked like for a minute there, the Will Lutz missed field goal wasn't going to hurt him.
but a leverage penalty on what should have been the potential game-winning field goal attempt for the Indianapolis Colts gets called.
Aniyoma Orozareke moves the ball up 15 yards after the missed kick initially,
and the Indianapolis Colts with a second chance, a second opportunity to write their wrongs after the miss field goal attempt,
drive that ball square through the uprights, and steal absolutely.
absolutely positively steal a win from the Denver Broncos,
who are now one and one on the season.
Your final score here this evening, 29 to 28.
Ayah, yeah, that is, that's as brutal of a way to lose a football game
as I've seen a long time, folks.
And it was a wacky day in the NFL today.
It looked like Russell Wilson was almost going to lead a comeback for the giants,
right? Steelers were bad.
Well, just weird, weird games across the board for the NFL today.
But for the most part, it looked like the Broncos were in the driver.
seat. This was a good football game for the most part from the Broncos up until the end, right? The Colts,
at least in my opinion, I got to give credit where credit is due. The Colts, I think, are a better
football team than I personally thought they would. I mean, they showed up and showed out,
in particular Jonathan Taylor against this Denver Broncos defense. But all that being said,
the Broncos were in the driver's seat, in the driver's seat to win this game. And the
untimely interception from Bo Nix at the end of the game, obviously that's going to feed into
the narrative of this loss as a whole, but it looked like the Broncos were going to be able to
overcome that. Hold Indianapolis to the field goal on the other side, up two points,
a little bit of time left in the fourth quarter, right? You're on another dry bow nix after the
interception. Willlets misses the field goal. That's devastating. But this is supposed to be one
if not the best defenses in the NFL. So you feel pretty good about the Broncos defense and
their ability to at least make it a long field goal attempt if they were to get one off, of course,
for the Indianapolis Colts. And to their credit, the Broncos defense actually did a decent job.
I believe it was what initially a 60-yard field goal attempt.
for the Indianapolis Colts to end this game.
And that obviously was no good,
but that leveraging penalty that got called on in Wazerike,
just you can't do that.
You can't expect a professional kicker,
you know,
when you're getting an additional 15 yards as well
to miss the kick two times in a row, right?
You know, you miss the 60 yard,
okay, it is what it is.
Or you make the 60 yard or even,
it is what it is, right?
You tip your cap.
But to have that boneheaded of a penalty,
and I get that maybe it's a little controversial,
but the rules are the rules, folks,
is just one heck of a way to lose a football game, man.
So this is a game that's going to come back to bite the Broncos in the rear end,
most likely.
I mean, you hope that's not the case.
We'd love to see the Broncos go out there and win every single game from here on out.
But, you know, the Colts, obviously they're going to try to contend for a division title out there in the AFC South.
But, you know, if the Broncos are going to potentially be a wildcard team,
if the Colts are potentially going to be a wildcard team, this is a loss that might come back to haunt the Denver Broncos a little bit.
Now, it is still very early in the season.
But wow.
What a deflating way to lose a football game.
I see the comment section is getting lit up here.
Hope everyone is hanging in there.
I'm an I'm Elo Piro.
I just kind of got right into it.
I'm your host at Media by AP.
You can follow me on social media as well.
Don't worry.
Cody and Sarah have not gone anywhere.
This is your Lockedon Broncos postcast,
which is a special post game show after each and every Denver Broncos game this season,
in addition to the Lockedon Broncos podcast,
which of course is hosted by our guys, Cody and Sarah.
All right, this is a safe space, folks.
Let's try to keep it PG.
you know, let's not like go at each other in the comments and whatnot, but this could be event-sest show as well.
Go ahead and drop your thoughts.
Let the emotion out in a respectful manner, of course, in the comment section.
I want to give you guys an opportunity to do that here on tonight's Locked-on Broncos postcast.
But what hurts you the most?
Is it the leveraging penalty on a Wazerike there at the end?
Is it the Will Wutz doink missed field goal that could have put the Broncos up again, or they were already up,
but put them up more?
Is it the Bow-Nix interception, which unfortunately kind of felt like the beginning of the end.
for the Denver Broncos. I mean, Bo is playing pretty darn good football today for the most part.
And it's a shame that his one mistake really comes back to bite the Broncos in the rear end.
I mean, Bo Nix today was dynamite in the first half, three touchdowns.
He finishes the game 22 for 30, 206 passing yards, an average of 6.9 yards per attempt,
three touchdowns in interception and a quarterback rating of 112 or 11.2.
So, you know, Bo, if we can take a step back from the emotion of this loss,
looked a lot better this week than he did against the Tennessee Titans last week.
So that's obviously something to be encouraged about with the Denver Broncos moving forward.
But it's still a loss.
And it's one that's just going to sting, man.
You know, there's also that J.K. Dobbins delay of game penalty that was called after he broke away for a big first down run.
You know, and this was just a sloppy, sloppy game from the Denver Broncos.
And let me know in the comments as well.
Who do you put this loss on the most?
Maybe not one player in particular.
but are you fed up with the offense in today's performance or are you more so fed up with the defense?
Because I thought Daniel Jones looked exceptional today, folks.
I mean, I did not have it on my bingo card.
I like Denver to win this game.
I thought it was interested that the Broncos were favorites coming into this one,
but we saw that line come closer down to pick them,
which is where I thought it should be personally.
But I didn't think Daniel Jones was going to have as good of a game as he did today,
especially against this Broncos defense.
And we'll talk about Pat Sertan, the defense, Riley Moss,
as a whole, but later on the program.
But look, Daniel Jones had himself a game today, folks.
And maybe that's a little bit of a gut check moment for this Broncos defense.
Look, I'm high on this Broncos defense.
I'm sure you, the listener, is also pumped up and high on this Broncos defense.
But today was a little bit of a comeback down to Earth type of game for that defensive unit.
Danny Dimes, that's who he was today.
23 for 34, 316 passing yards.
Think about that.
Daniel Jones threw for over 100 yards more passing than Bo Nix did in this game.
23 for 34, 316, a touchdown, no interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 107.
On top of that, Jonathan Taylor, you know, making up for him dropping the football
and last year's matchup between the Colts and the Broncos there at the goal line.
He had himself a game of workhorse today with JT, 25 carries for 165 yards,
did not find the end zone, but made a major impact throughout the course of this game.
today for the Denver Broncos, essentially, not even essentially, more than doubled up the Broncos
leading rusher did Jonathan Taylor with those 25 carries for 165.
So, despite the interception from Boe, you know, despite everything we saw kind of go wrong for
the Broncos there late, they put themselves in a position to win the game.
They were going to force the Colts to take a 60-yard field goal attempt to win this game.
It was initially not even close, and that leveraging penalty really haunts the Denver Broncos in
this game. But make no mistake. It wasn't like, you know, the Colts were just flying up and
down the field. The Broncos made their mistakes. That Bonix interception. And of course, the one to me that
I think, the leveraging penalty to me is obviously going to stand out the most, right? Just naturally.
The Bonnix interception, not a great pass. You can live with that to a certain extent. But Will Lutz
missing that field goal changes that entire, changes the entire dynamic of that football game,
folks. 100%. I mean, the Colts, you got to think about the mental aspect of it as well. They
would have to score a touchdown instead of kick a field goal.
You know, everything changes for Daniel Jones, really put him in the pressure cooker and whatnot.
And for Will Lutz to miss that field goal, man, is just one heck of a way to lose a football game.
So, all right, let me, well, again, there was more reasons to that, but that's one of many reasons, tough reasons, tough pills to swallow for the Denver Broncos today.
But it is early, hopefully some lessons learned in this loss.
And we'll see if they could move forward here as well.
Oh, hold on one second.
Why did that not upload?
Let me make sure this is good here, folks.
Sorry about that.
We're going to hit a quick commercial break here in just a moment.
My computer would like to stop giving me the spinning circle of death here.

I see you guys lighten up the comment section.
Feel free to keep those comments going here as well.
So you got one here from David.
Haters, please leave.
It was just one game.
Yes, things could have been better.
Officiating and play calling was iffy.
100% David. I think you're on the right page with that, but still is a tough way to lose a football game nonetheless.
All right, let's have a quick break. When we come back, we'll continue along with the conversation.
Some positives to take away from this game here today, although I know the overall tone around the Denver Broncos right now is rather negative considering the tough loss this afternoon to the Indianapolis Colts.
All right, we'll hit a quick break, come back and continue along with the conversation.

Don't worry, Cody and Sare have not gotten anywhere.
This is just your Lockdown Broncos postcast, which is a postgame reaction show,
in addition to the standard Lockdown Broncos podcast hosted by our friends, Cody and
Sarah.
Reacting to a tough pill to swallow today for Broncos country should be to
but you are one and one at the end of the day following a 29 to 28
grueling loss to the Indianapolis Colts who now find themselves at 2 and O
following their week one bludgeoning of Miami.
And let's get in some big, well, before I get in some big picture themes,
when it comes to the defense, a little banged up today.
Obviously, Zach Allen hurt on what was that, like the first play of the game.
I know it was the first drive of the game for the Colts on offense.
So that's obviously somebody to monitor.
He came back and did play in the game.
So hopefully nothing too crazy was Zach Allen.
But then the big one that I think had all of Broncos country kind of holding their breath was you saw Patrick Stratan at one point go down on this game.
You know, it appeared to be some foot or ankle type of injury, but he did return to the game as well.
So that's obviously a good thing.
But you saw Pat Sertan and you can't say this many times.
You saw a passer Tent getting picked on today by Daniel Jones.
I mean, there was a couple of big plays that the Colts were able to make in the passing game that, you know, were intended for guys that Patrick Chartan was defending.
and whatnot. You saw Riley Moss, you know, who, you know, kind of 50-50 today got got and also got his a little bit in this one. But this Devin Rocco secondary, you know, not exactly pristine as we're accustomed to today against. And it's one thing to have, you know, Joe Burrow or Pat Mahomes or Justin Herbert kind of torture defense. It's another thing for Daniel Jones to come out today and play as well as he did. Again, 23 for 34, 316 yards and a touchdown. So I know everybody wants to look to the Will Lutz-field goal, the Bow-Nix interception. And obviously,
the leveraging call on what should have been the game winning field goal miss for the Denver
Broncos as to why they lost this game. But the Colts, to their credit, put up a fight and never
said, it never rolled over in this matchup. I mean, they were able to, you know, get what they needed
and get some momentum going on offense, which I think is something that you kind of look at
Vince Joseph in question here a little bit because I expected the Broncos defense to come out
here and dominate this game. I really did. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. You know,
they did good last week against Cam Ward, right? Number one overall pick first start in the
NFL kind of expected that.
But I also more often than not expect the Broncos defense to be the better unit than
their offense on a game in and game outbath basis.
I don't think it's a bad thing if the offense outplays the defense.
But today, the defense just was not good enough across the board, man.
Just not good enough.
And hopefully this is the only time we've got to talk about a loss like this where the defense
was the problem because I forecast and I expect there to be some hiccups along the
road with this offense.
I was encouraged with how much better the offense.
offense look today compared to week one against Tennessee.
But it's like now you're kind of flip flopping back and forth.
I see we got a comment here.
Defense this week, offense last week, 100%.
100%.
And again, you want to lump in the will-lets-miss field goal and the Bonix interception.
Obviously, the Bonix interception has to do with the offense.
But you want to lump in that will-lots-miss-field go with offense-slash-special
teams go ahead.
But point being, Danny Dimes played great.
Daniels didn't turn the ball over.
And Jonathan Taylor ran wild today.
those are three things.
If the Broncos were going to win this game,
you'd likely have a Daniel Jones turnover,
you likely have Daniel Jones sloppy a quarterback,
and you're likely able to confine Jonathan Taylor.
You need two of those three things to likely go right to get the win.
Now, the Broncos almost got the win in spite of going 0 for three in those categories.
But point being, you allowed the Colts to settle into a groove offensively
relative to the expectations.
Like, I expected the Broncos defense to come out and impose their will
and show Daniel Jones that, hey, you were just playing the Miami Dolphins last week.
Now you're playing one of the best defenses in the league.
And it was anything but that today.
Daniel Jones looked comfortable.
Jonathan Taylor ran wild.
And the Colts were always in this game because their offense was never down and out.
And their defense was relatively stable, all things considered in the second half in particular.
They settled down on the second half.
So that's an ugly one.
This one's going to hurt, folks.
This one is going to hurt.
But, you know, some big picture things.
You know, Sean, obviously you'd love to have Drey,
Greenlaw out there. He's been hurt through the first two games of the season for the Broncos.
We'll see if he plays next week. You know, Drag Greenlaw is out there, maybe a different outcome in this
game. But also, I think kind of big picture here. And one thing that I'm sure I'll talk about on the
radio this week at Denver Sports 1043, the fan is Sean Payton has put by his own doing.
Sean Payton has put a lot of pressure on this Denver Broncos team folks. You know, I was at literally
every single training camp practice with the exception of one. And that was for the
Dion Sanders cancer press conference that we got in the middle of the summer.
Sean Payton from like the moment we started training camp and then was kind of, you know,
getting asked about this theme throughout the course of training camp and now in the regular season
talked about how we can't be afraid to talk about Super Bowl.
We can't be afraid to talk about high expectations.
I know a lot of people in Broncos country that had this Broncos team at 12, even 13 wins.
I was not one of them.
I was optimistic about the Broncos, but I had them at 10 and 7,
especially after what I saw in the preseason from the offense.
That being said, this is a game I expected the Broncos to win.
I expected the Broncos on offense, which they did to their credit,
to look themselves in the mirror after that Tennessee game and come out fire against Indianapolis.
They did do that.
And I expected the Broncos defense to stand up again.
They did not do that.
So coin flip type of game for the Broncos.
It was essentially a pick-um against the spread for those of you that are interested in that.
But I always like to use the Vegas line just kind of an indicator of where games are and where they end up.
So obviously, Vegas got this one right on the money.
Any team could have won.
But this is a game where, you know, if the Broncos want to have those championship expectations
and hopefully the Broncos are better off from a loss like this moving forward.
Bo can't throw that interception.
Will Lutz can't miss that field goal.
And you can't make a boneheaded penalty with the game on the line in that field goal attempt for the Colts.
Case in point.
Ooh, man, I got some thoughts today.
I got some thoughts.
At least this came early in the season.
I think that's the nice part as well.
If you want to go optimistic about it,
and look, I think this is a terrible loss,
whichever way you slice it.
You should not be excited or, you know,
have any positive takeaways for the most part.
I guess Troy Franklin had himself a nice game.
You like what you saw from Bow Nicks in the first half,
but a loss is a loss.
And this was an ugly one at that.
But you hope you kind of get this out of your system, right?
You had that clunky, sloppy offensive game in week one.
Now you kind of have the defensive version of that.
You hope that moving forward now you can all get on the same page,
get healthy on defense,
that's down on Pats or Tann and whatnot.
not get Drey Greenlaw in the lineup.
And hopefully you're better off moving forward from a loss like this.
Yeah, I see we got a comment here from Anthony.
Court got shut down.
Yeah, he did.
I mean, I don't even think I mentioned his name yet.
I mean, is there even a reason to mention his name?
I don't think he had a reception today.
I mean, one reception for six yards did Cortland's son.
Now, I'm not going to necessarily blame Cortland's son on that.
I think the play calling was a bit interesting.
Sean Payton admitted as much after the loss of Tennessee that he has to be better as a
play caller. But you were able to get, I mean, it's not like the offense was dormant, right?
I mean, you had Troy Franklin had a nice game today, eight receptions for 89 yards.
Marvin Mims starting out the scoring for the Broncos today, but only two receptions for
Marvin. You know, but the run game was there, you know, all right for the Broncos today.
14 carries for 76 yards from J.K. Dobbins and a tutty. That should be the expectation from
J.K. Dobbins. Not a lot of R.J. Harvey, five carries for eight yards.
And Tyler Biday had one carry for three yards. Bo Nicks, your second leading rush for
the Broncos with three for 20. So yeah, court was definitely a ghost today. How about Evan Ingram?
You want to talk about ghosts? Where was Evan Ingram? I mean, it wasn't until like late in that
fourth quarter that we saw Evan Ingram hauling on a catch. And he did indeed only have one catch today.
One for 12 was Evan Ingram on two targets. I mean, that's the other thing. The only player that
was targeted more than three times. There was two players that were targeted more than three
times in this game for the Denver Broncos on offense at receiver. Troy Franklin was targeted
nine times and hauled in those eight receptions for 89 yards.
And Coilin Sutton was targeted four times for one reception for six yards.
I mean, outside of that, Marvin Vames targeted twice,
Tyler Badegh targeted twice, Pat Bryant targeted three times, R.J. Harvey twice,
Evan Ingram twice, Adam Troutman three times.
He had a touchdown as well.
But, you know, I mean, not exactly a ton of diversity from the Broncos in regards to targets
in the wide receiver room as well.
Tough, man.
Tough.
winding on down here if you guys have any final thoughts comments questions vent session keep it respectful
let me know your thoughts in the comment section as we wind on down here but i mean oof man it that
that that is just one that you're going to wake up tomorrow like i know you know i go to work and i work
in the business so i'm talking about this stuff anyway but i'm sure your water cooler
conversations are going to be interesting tomorrow that is a tough pill to swallow for the
nebroncos yeah i think if will let's makes the field goal we win the game obviously that's the case here
That's a big, it changes the entire dynamic of the game if Will Lutz was able to make that feel of it.
That's what happens.
That one hurt, self-inflicted, those sting.
Oh, man.
Rules or rules.
That penalty was the worst.
That one at the end of the game.
So everyone's kind of on the same page here in Denver Broncos country.
At least we're not the Chiefs.
Why don't we end on that?
At least the Broncos are not the Chiefs.
Can you believe it?
The Kansas City Chiefs are 0-2, oh and two folks.
So that ended of itself, you know, as long as it,
Even if the Broncos didn't win, at least the Kansas City Chiefs didn't win either.
So, oh, yeah, yeah.
All right, tough one, fun show nonetheless.
Appreciate y'all rocking with me.
Again, you can follow me on social media at media by AP.
Cody and Sierra got you covered with additional content from this game on the lockdown Broncos podcast.
Really, really appreciate y'all guys tapping in or tapping in with me.
I thought Bo Nicks looked better today.
I thought the offense looked better as a whole.
Hopefully the defense gets healthy and plays better moving forward.
And one other closing thought, Joe Burrow.
today leaves the game with a toe injury.
And it seems like his status for the Monday night football game,
the 29th of September is now in question.
So the Broncos go at the Chargers next week.
It's a 205 kickoff local time here in Colorado.
And they have Monday night football in week four against the Cincinnati Bengals.
And again, Joe Burrow banged up in that game.
So there's a chance that he might not play.
But the next three games for the Broncos are going to be interesting, folks.
At the Chargers, home versus the Bengals, at the Eagles.
Three really tough games for the Denver Broncos coming up,
which I think makes this loss hurt just a little bit more, just a little bit more.
But it is what it is.
You are what your record says you are.
And for the Denver Broncos, that is a record of one and one.
All right, folks, enjoy the rest of your Sunday evening.
Tap in with me on social media at media by AP.
Tough loss.
Don't let it affect your week.
Take a deep breath, move on.
The Broncos will be fine moving forward this season.
Have a good evening, folks.
