You are Locked-on Broncos Postcast, powered by Mile High Sports, part of Locked-on Sports Denver,
on the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
Ouch, out, out.
Two weeks in a row, ladies and gentlemen, the Denver Broncos are unable to close out a game
in which they very well could have won.
Two weeks in a row, the Denver Broncos lose in a walk-off fashion via the field goal.
Two weeks in a row, a lack of killer instinct plagues the Denver Broncos.
Two weeks in a row, an overall lack of discipline and boneheaded penalties cost the Denver Broncos.
yet another NFL regular season football game
as they fall to the Los Angeles Chargers
in absolutely brutal fashion again for the second week in a row
your final score here this evening,
23 to 20. Wow, wow, wow.
First half was not exactly ideal,
at least for the Broncos offense.
The defense did their job.
And then it's like, you know,
we get to the second half.
And it's like it's the Chargers.
What are the Chargers?
Rogers do. Bow Nicks, you know, Sean Payton, 17 on answer points on offense, only for them to, you know, down their leg.
I'm not going to say that other word, but just unable to hang on and secure a victory in what is just yet another.
I mean, we're three games in, folks, and two already brutal losses for the Denver Broncos.
And this is a game. I'm curious to get your guys's opinion.
Of course, this is your lockdown Broncos postcast.
I'm your host, Anilo Piro.
Hope everyone is hanging in there out there in Broncos country.
you can follow me on social media at media by AP.
Hit that like button, smash that subscribe button.
That way you guys never, ever miss an episode.
But point being, I'm curious to get your thoughts.
Does you think going into this game,
this was a must win game for the Denver Broncos?
Los Angeles Chargers now at 3 in firm command of the AFC West
with three division wins.
We'll get into that throughout the course of the program.
But this is a safe space for Broncos country.
Let's keep it respectful, no profanity, anything like that.
But we can use this as event session here on your locked on Broncos post.
cast. So drop those comments. I see the comments section is getting lit up right now.
And that is rightfully so, is the Denver Broncos once again, you know, fumble in a game,
not literally fumble, but they fumble a game in which they should have won point being.
So 23 to 20 your final score real quick.
Tonight's episode is brought to you by our friends over at Mazda.
Like our players, we sweat every detail.
I don't know if the Broncos are sweating every detail right now.
Because when you make every move count, pulling off the unexpected is only the beginning.
Stay tuned for later in the show for highlights.
and this week's moving the game forward. Mazda, move and be moved.
Where do we want to start? Do we want to start with the Bow Nix conversation?
Do we want to start with the Sean Payton conversation? I think we should start with the penalties.
Because look, the overthrows from Bo Nix, we'll get into that in a minute.
I've got some big picture philosophy thoughts for this Denver Broncos team as a whole.
But you just can't have these penalties, folks. You just cannot have these self-inflicted wounds, right?
Okay, a penalty here throughout the course of the game, right? You can live with it.
but late in the game in the fourth quarter,
I mean, it's just absolutely unacceptable.
And this is the second game in a row
where late in the game,
the Broncos seemingly, you know,
look to be in control.
And the penalties ultimately cost them in this game.
100%.
You know, Denver up 20 to 13 in the middle of fourth quarter.
It just feels like the penalties absolutely derailed
everything that was going on.
The Broncos looked to be on a good drive.
You had RJ Harvey,
which looked like for an 11, 12-yard gain.
Adam Troutman, kind of a phantom offside call,
so we'll give him a little bit of a break on that.
But you got Garrett Bulls with a face mass penalty.
That was another 15 yards back.
And then, you know, where we go.
Tala no who Funga with the bad penalty as well.
A little reminiscent.
I know he's on defense with Dobbins last week against Indianapolis.
I mean, how many times are the day?
It's early, right?
So let's mention that.
It's been a rough September, right?
I mean, the Broncos are lucky to be one and two right now.
They could have very well lost that game against Tennessee.
But already now there's a theme setting in.
And that is a team that lacks discipline across the board.
Special teams not great today either.
And so, you know, it looked like the Broncos coming out of halftime there had managed to flip the script a little bit, right?
That Brandon Jones tip tap interception.
You like to see that.
Putting up those 17 on answer points.
But man, just the Broncos, the biggest thing for me with the Denver Broncos right now, they lack a killer instinct.
They don't know how to put teams away.
And that's scary because I don't think it's a question about talent, right?
Like I think the defense is solid.
I know they lost the game today, but, you know, five total sacks on Justin Herbert today.
The defense, you know, did solid.
But when you give up 10 penalties for 90 yards, it's hard to win those football games, folks.
That's just the reality of the situation.
That's just the fact of the matter.
As I accidentally open up my email, let's not do that.
I got all my notes pulled up.
But, you know, it's one of those things where the penalties and also just the inability to convert on third down today, Denver, two of 13 on third down.
to a 13.
I mean, how are you, how, how do you expect to win these games?
And the Chargers, I know that Broncos country doesn't want to hear this right now.
Put some respect on the Chargers.
They're a good team.
Justin Herbert is cut loose as you.
I mean, again, cover your ears if you want for a moment.
That touchdown pass from Justin Herbert around the arm of Nick Benito.
It's a great pass.
You got to tip your cap to that.
You know, but the Broncos won the turnover battle.
I see we got the comment there as well.
And I tweeted this out.
Let me see if I could find.
did. I believe Justin Herbert's record in games in which he throws an interception is absolutely
abysmal. Hold on me pick this up here because, you know, history was not on the Broncos side
today because odds are when Justin Herbert throws an interception or turns the ball over at least
once in a game, that tends to mean good things for the opposition and whatnot. Hold on one second.
Yeah, the charges are 19 and 30. Well, now they're 20 and 36. They were previously 19 and 36 in games
in which Justin Herbert has at least one turnover.
So that was not working for the Denver Broncos today.
I see we got a comment here as well.
John Harbaugh, you know, greater than Sean Payton.
Well, guess what, folks?
Sean Payton is now one in six lifetime for his career against Jim Harbaugh straight up head to head.
That's not great because this is a division rival.
Obviously two brutal losses last year,
but I think the Thursday night loss was the most painful of all of them last year.
And this was an opportunity.
I was in the Broncos locker room on when,
Wednesday and Thursday of this previous week, you know, chatting with the different players.
We talked to Adam Trout. We talked to Alex Singleton. We talked to a handful of different guys.
And, you know, the question was, you know, is this kind of a must-win game?
And I think that there was a sense of urgency amongst this Broncos team, but maybe not quite as much as you would have liked to see.
And again, for them to collapse now for the second consecutive week in the fourth quarter,
it is absolutely positively alarming. I mean, Denver, you know, they scored the same amount of points of the Broncos in the charge in the second half.
13 for Denver, 10 of which came in the third,
and the field goal there in the fourth.
And then the Chargers scored three in the third quarter with the field goal.
And then 10 points there in the fourth quarter,
of course, capped off by the field goal there from Dicker the kicker.
So, you know, it's a tough loss.
It's a tough pill to swallow.
But the reality situation is right now the Denver Broncos are 1 and 2.
And this was a game that got away.
This was a very, very winnable game.
Now, look, you want to go with the coach speaker,
you know, the optimistic point of view, division game.
These are tough games.
Chargers are good, right?
I can feed into that a little bit.
But the point being, the Broncos were in control of this.
The Broncos were in command of this game,
and they were unable to get the job done.
Self-inflicted wounds via the penalty.
Bo Nicks missing deep balls.
And just an overall lack of discipline across the board
ultimately cost the Broncos, not just in this game,
but last week's game against the Indianapolis Colts.
And it's all, you know, it's not mutually exclusive at this point
because now this is two consecutive weeks in a row
where you're seeing these trends kind of boil over.
So let me know your thoughts in the comment section, folks.
We're going to hit a quick commercial break.
When we come back, let's dive into Bo Nix.
Let's dive into Sean Payton, talked about the penalties, you know, and whatnot and the heartbreak,
you know, they're at the end of the game with the field goal and whatnot.
But let's dive into Bo Nix.
Is there a concern with Bo Nix moving forward?
He was not sharp today.
And if he hits a couple of those deep balls, three deep balls today,
Cortland Sutton, Marvin Mims and Company.
If Bo Nix is able to hit those deep balls, folks, this is a completely different game.
The Broncos very may well have blown out the Los Angeles Chargers if Bo Nix was able to connect on those defaults.
So we'll break that down when we come back here after the commercial break.
Let me know your thoughts in the comment section.
Also hit that like button, smash that subscribe button helps us out here on the channel.

For those who believe it's not just about playing the game,
it's about redefining it.
There are moments that do more to put points on the board.
They move crowds, move culture, and keep the game moving forward.
I think Nick Benito had himself a nice game today.
The defense as a whole, you know, they did their job, right?
Five sacks.
Justin Herbert's are really good quarterback.
The charges are a talented team, you know,
but they were just unable to get the job done offensively.
A bit of a disappointment there from the Broncos,
but I do think the defense showed up to a certain extent,
although the yardage is not great.
get into that here in just a moment as well.
But be sure to check out our friends over at Mazda when you follow up moves you.

Real quick, say a prayer for anybody who had the Los Angeles Rams plus three and a half today.
You want to talk about a disgusting.
Not a bad be a disgusting beat.
That's exactly what that was.
But of course, this is your Lockedon Broncos Postcast.
I am your host, Anilo Piro.
Don't worry, Cody and Sayre, they haven't gone anywhere.
This is just a new addition to the Lockdown Broncos podcast.
And of course, the YouTube channel, Cody and Sarah will have you covered with all of their
standard Lockdown Broncos podcast.
And I'll be along the way with you throughout the course of the season, breaking down
the game on the lockdown Broncos postcast.
So a 23 to 20 loss today for the Denver Broncos as they fall to the Los Angeles
chargers who are now in complete command of the AFC West.
And let's have the conversation, folks.
Bo Nix, what is going on?
I see we got a comment here already from Mom Spaghetti.
Stidham makes those throws.
Bo don't know from bad news, sour grapes.
Let's see what else we got here.
Bo Nix can't even string a first down together when it matters most.
Get a grip.
So these are the type of comments that we're seeing right now.
about Bo Nix. And the fact of the matter is,
Bo was not good today, folks. 14 to 253 passing yards.
A touchdown, no interceptions. You like the lack of a turnover there.
Sacked a couple of times and a quarterback rating of 87.6.
He actually played better quarterback rating wise than Justin Herbert,
who had a rating of 76.6.
But I think what stings about this loss from the offense's perspective is the fact that
Bo Nix had Marvin Mims and Cortland Sutton twice virtually.
And he hit Cortland on one of them, right?
But there was some long ball opportunities that mere inches, right?
You know, what did Vic Fangio say?
What was his famous line?
Death by inches.
I believe it was Vic Fangio.
That's kind of what happened today for the Denver Broncos.
It was death by inches because even just if one of those deep balls is caught,
one of them, it changes the entire dynamic of the game,
the entire dynamic of the game.
It's unacceptable.
And look, I mean, I understand he's a young quarterback in his second year in the league.
But Sean Payton, this is Sean Peyton's doing.
Sean Peyton was the guy all training camp long.
I'm sitting there standing there next to Cody Roark and our fellow media members.
And Sean Payton's talking on and on and on about we can't be afraid to talk about championships.
We can't be afraid about reaching the highest level of success.
There's levels to this stuff, though.
I had him at 10 and 7, and this is not a victory lap whatsoever.
I just, there's more that I need to see before I put the Broncos on the level of the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills.
And, you know, insert NFC team here.
The Philadelphia Eagles, right? Take them.
Even Los Angeles Chargers.
And Bo Nick's inability to find those, you know, find the wide receiver
and connect with the wide receiver on those deep balls is just a critical error.
It's an absolutely positively critical error.
I mean, the Chargers today had 29 first downs compared to Denver's nine.
Think about that.
29 first downs today for the charges compared to nine for the Moncos.
You're not going to win many football games.
On top of the 10 penalties for 90 yards.
I mean, man, it is just too many missed opportunities for this Denver Broncos team.
Again, three big overthrows from Bo Nix.
And a couple of those would have likely gone for touchdowns.
Missing Cortland Sutton there on that third and 10 that ended up leading to a punt that allowed the charges to come back and win this game.
That hurts, man.
It really, really does.
And, you know, we haven't even talked about like the injury dynamic of it.
I mean, Najee Harris went out of this game as well.
Omarion Hampton ran wild today.
But Denver was unable to take advantage of that.
I mean, where is Evan Ingram?
Obviously, we know he was inactive today, but it shows you that the tight end position is still something you got to keep an eye on.
Right.
I mean, there's just a lack of playmakers across the board right now.
It appears with this Denver Broncos team.
I mean, you know, J.K. Dobbins, sweet little toe tap there on the sideline, he got his revenge.
11 carries for 83 yards in a tuttee.
You know, and Cortland Sutton had himself a nice day.
Six receptions for 118 yards in a tutte with a long of 52, which of course was that touchdown pass as well.
But outside of that, I mean, like these receiving numbers for the Broncos are putrid.
Absolutely putrid.
R. J. Harvey, the rookie running back, was the second leading wide receiver,
a receiver, I should say, for the Denver Broncos today.
Guess his stat line?
Three receptions for 14 yards.
Lucas Crowell, one reception for nine yards.
That's your third leading receiver for the Denver Broncos.
Troy Franklin, two for eight.
And a bad drop, a terrible drop from Troy Franklin there in the end zone late.
I mean, again, he's a young player too.
But if Sean Payton wants to live up to the expectations,
not the expectations that Broncos countries put on the team,
but the expectations that Sean Payton is put on himself,
you can't fall short in these moments.
And this is now two games in a row,
boneheaded mistake after boneheaded mistake after boneheaded mistake.
The Denver Broncos could very well be 3 and 0 right now.
They're not.
The Chargers are 3 and 0 with three division games up.
We'll fire it up today, folks.
It's just, it's crazy to me.
It's just I sit here and I'm like,
I'm not trying to say I told you so I'm not.
Like I said, I had him at 10 and 7.
I had them losing this game myself.
But point that being, you know, put that aside for a moment.
I didn't think the Broncos were going to be in control.
I didn't think the Broncos were going to have 17 unanswered points in the middle of this game.
And they did.
And they still lost.
They had their foot on the gas and they let up.
So, ugh, ugh.
It's a terrible way to lose a game.
And it only is worse because of how you lost last week.
Right.
If you sneak out the win,
we're 2 and O going into this game and you lose a tough match
against the Chargers,
maybe a little bit of an easier pill to swallow.
But now that's two crushing,
heartbreaking losses in a row in two games
in which you can make a legitimate argument
that the Denver Broncos should have and could have won.
And you didn't?
What does that say about big picture with this team?
Again, Sean Payton out one in six lifetime head to head.
This is going back to his New Orleans days as well against Jim Harbaugh.
Harbaugh aren't going anywhere, folks.
Hardball ain't going anywhere.
Yeah, we got a comment here.
Undiscipline, so that's coaching 100%.
Ayah, yeah.
Like I said, this is a safe space, folks.
Keep those comments coming.
Let me know your thoughts.
Appreciate all the engagement here.
Hit that like button, smash that subscribe button as well.
Man, you know, I guess here's the silver lining.
Here's the optimistic point of view.
You have the Bengals next week on Wednesday night football.
And I'm forgetting what, Jake Browning, right, is the backup quarterback for the Bengals.
We'll see if he even starts.
He was an absolute atrocity today.
But if the Broncos can't come out and stomp the Bengals next week,
who look lifeless without Joe Burrow, you got a problem.
But I think the expectation should be this Broncos team is able to go out there next week
and get back on track.
Two and two, away we go, right?
Some tough games coming up as well, Philly, among some others.
Hit the reset button a little bit.
It is still early in the year, right?
You'd rather have these losses early in the year than, you know,
on the verge of a playoff spot and you lose bad games late in December or late November,
whatever it might be.
So Broncos need to get this out of their system now.
And I believe Sean Payton, I'm paraphrasing here,
but I caught the quote while I was getting ready for the show.
You said something along the lines of,
we got to get this thing figured out fast.
We got to get this thing figured out fast.
And amen to that because Broncos country,
y'all are some real passionate fans.
And Sean Payton, I think is a good head coach in this league.
I do.
But the returns this year, again,
with the expectations that he set for himself,
less than optimal.
Less than optimal.
What else have I missed?
I think we've kind of hit it all, right? Herbert had a good game.
Chargers are a good team.
Bronco 17 unanswered boneheaded penalties from Bowles, Huffanga,
not having Drake Greenlaw, I think hurts today.
Obviously not having Evan Ingram, you know, this Joker role we were all sold on in the offseason
or, you know, supposed to be sold on rather, you know, not exist.
And I mean, the charges today, 370.
Look, this Broncos defense is good, folks.
They gave up 376 yards of offense today.
I get it only resulted in 23 points.
But I mean, look at the discrepancy and just total plays run.
The Chargers nearly doubled.
The Broncos like didn't have the ball in this game.
The Chargers nearly doubled up the Broncos in total plays 80 to 48.
18 for 17, the Chargers were on third down.
Where's that defense?
That's nearly a 50% conversion percentage.
The Broncos are two for 13.
I guess you don't have Drey Greenlaw out there.
Drey Greenlaw hasn't been there all season.
Man, man.
That's a tough way to lose, man.
And the penalties, you know, I just, I keep coming back to that as well.
You know, the Chargers won the time of possession battle this evening, 36 to 36 minutes and 20 seconds of 2340 for the Broncos.
Again, when you look at these stats, really, you think about it.
The Broncos probably had no, you know, no reason to win this game.
And the fact that they were in this game with the 17-0 inches points, you know, in hindsight right now is a bit surprising.
So, yeah, let's see we got the comment here.
And we played that bad, but still could have won.
Yeah.
Should it coulda woulda.
Should it could have would have two weeks in a row.
What else?
What else?
What else?
what else. This is a vent session. This is for you guys.
You know, I'm out, I enjoy talking about it,
or I shouldn't say enjoy talking about a loss, but I'm happy to be
here. I'm blessed to do this show. You know, happy to be
a part of the lockdown network, but this is
it's a service for you guys.
Let's keep it respectful, have some fun in the comment section,
vent, whatever you want to do. But man,
what a tough way to lose a football game.
What a tough way to lose a football game.
Looking at the upcoming schedule now for the Denver Broncos.
So obviously you mentioned they got the Monday night football game against the Bengals.
And then you go at Philadelphia, 11 a.m.m.
kickoff on the 5th of October.
So one more game remaining in September.
Let me ask you this.
If before the year we said the Broncos would be two and two coming out of September,
would you, what would your reaction be?
I think you'd obviously hope for three and one.
Obviously dream scenario is four and oh.
But if I'm taking it at face value, if I'm taking a step back and taking the emotion out
of it, two and two is really not that bad, right?
You got the Eagles game at the beginning of October.
If you figure out a way to win that game, you go to London to take on the Jets.
He should be able to win that.
Then you got the Giants and the Cowboys.
Right. So after the Eagles, you know, one, two, three, four, you're looking at four of the next five games for the Broncos that are pretty winnable, all things considered.
So do the math. You know, the Broncos should have a winning record, you know, as we start to make that turn towards November.
But, you know, there's a very good chance you can make a legitimate argument that Denver Broncos should be 3 in 0 right now.
So frustrating.
All right, folks, that is going to do it for me.
Try to get some rest. Try to take a step back. Go touch some grass, folks.
tough loss, tough loss.
The Broncos are now one and two on the season.
Again, I'm your host, Neil O'Hiro.
You guys can follow me on social media at media by AP.
Hit that like button, smash that subscribe button on your way out the door.
And Cody and Sare will have you covered with some additional content on the lockdown Broncos podcast.
Tough loss, one and two on a Cincinnati.
Have a good one, folks.
