Starting point is 00:00:06 You are Locked-on Broncos, your daily Denver Broncos podcast. Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. Yes, it is your Locked-on Broncos postcast right here on the Locked-on Broncos YouTube channel. I am your host, Anilo Piro. Hope everybody is doing well out there on this still 20 minutes left of Saturday, August the 16th. with the Denver Broncos get themselves their second preseason win on this Saturday evening, taking down the Arizona Cardinals, your final score here this evening, 27-27. Of course, this is your Lockdown Broncos Postcast, Cody Rork and Sarah Beninger.
Starting point is 00:00:49 They're coming to you live as well with their shows. This is just a new addition to the Lockdown Network here with myself and Ylo Piro. We'll give you guys some additional post-game instant reaction type of content here on the channel. So hope everyone is doing well out there today. and I hope everyone had a good time watching this Denver Broncos 27 to 7 bludgeoning of the Arizona Cardinals. Not a lot to get into. I almost said not a lot to get into, but there is a lot to get into in tonight's 27 to 7 win over the Arizona Cardinals. A lot of good stuff, you know, pretty limited opportunities from a lot of the starters.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Obviously, no Bo Nicks out there tonight would love to hear your guys's opinion on what you saw out there in the game tonight. What did you like? What didn't you like? I know Sean Payton, I was able to sit in on this press conference, was a little miffed, a little frustrated with the overall penalties that we saw tonight from the Denver Broncos. But for the most part, you cannot complain about a big time victory. I'll be at a preseason game.
Starting point is 00:01:45 But you're really seeing, I think the theme of the show, the theme of the Denver Broncos throughout the course of training camp. I've been at every single practice, along with our guy, Cody Warwick, with the exception of one. That was for Dion Sanders press conference when he announced that he had beat bladder cancer. Congratulations to Coach Prime. But I think, you know, Sean Payton, and has gone on and on and on about the depth that this Denver Broncos team has.
Starting point is 00:02:08 And you don't win 27 to 7 tonight. You don't take down the San Francisco 49ers 30 to 9. And I understand that it's the preseason. But I think you don't win those games in the manner in which you won them without the depth that we've seen from this Denver Broncos team. And tonight, man, we got to start with Jared Stead up. I mean, I think for the first time and a long time, right, it seems like the Broncos prior to Bo Nix coming here. You know, it seemed, you know, Russell Wilson was a bit of an anomaly, right?
Starting point is 00:02:37 But it was like backup type of journeyman quarterbacks playing starting QB for the Denver Broncos. And now everyone for the most part is a Bo Lever, at least here in Broncos country, right? Bo Nix is quarterback one. But I think Jared Stidham in his two preseason games, in particular this game here today, you feel comfortable that, God forbid, if Bo Nix gets hurt or something happens, you should feel confident in a guy like Jared Stenum, not to play at the same level as Bo Nix, but to weather the storm. And, you know, I'm sitting here on, you know, watching this game and whatnot.
Starting point is 00:03:07 And remember in that championship season, which was 10 years ago now, which is hard to believe, right? Peyton Manning wasn't exactly the Pfm that everybody's come to know in love over the course of his career. You know, you have Brock Osweiler at the time who steps in and, you know, really holds down the fort. So again, this is absolute doomsday scenario for the Denver Broncos. But Jared Stidham tonight, man, was absolutely on point, 16 to 20. 23, 240 passing yards, an average of 10.4 yards per reception, two touchdowns, no interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 132.5. And if there was anything that I think you were looking for in this game, it was one, quality play at the backup quarterback position from Jared Stidham, and the overall depth. And I think you hit on both of those marks here tonight for the Denver Broncos.
Starting point is 00:03:52 So you've got to feel pretty good about that, man. And, you know, we got a comment here. This wasn't even as close as the score may indicate. this was a flat out tail whipping. Absolutely. I mean, the Denver Broncos were in control throughout the course of this game, pretty much from the start to the finish, right? And, you know, Sean has talked about, you know, the preseason and kind of having these opportunities to, you know,
Starting point is 00:04:12 give some guys some different looks. And Sean was adamant about this in his postgame press conference, you know, talking about how he's confident that when they get down a roster cutdowns, which starts sooner rather than later, the Broncos are going to have to part waves with some really talented players that not only are going to be picked up by other teams. but are going to have the opportunity to be significant contributors to other teams. And, you know, he had a little remark there at the end of his press conference on the depth note
Starting point is 00:04:37 talking about I'd rather be in the position that we're in now than the position that he found himself in two years ago when he took over as head coach with the Denver Broncos. Of course, that's the Russell Wilson season. Everybody knows how that went. And now we're on a bow next year two. So Sean Peyton, you know, he's talked about it time and time again, loves the depth of this team, loves the overall makeup of this team, loves the competitive nature. And tonight, you know, in a game where obviously neither team really played a lot of their starters,
Starting point is 00:05:03 you know, the Broncos really brought some fire and passion of this game. And I love that. I think it set the tone with Jared Stiddle. And, you know, another interesting anecdote that we saw on this game tonight is Davis Mills at one point, the quarterback coach, calling a lot of the plays for the Broncos on offense there. And Sean said, you know, Joe Lombardi, who's the offensive coordinator, some other guys on his staff, have experience calling plays and whatnot. He wanted to give Davis Mills that opportunity. And we had an opportunity as well. to catch up with Jared Stidham after the game. And he talked about the overall camaraderie and the chemistry that he has in the belief in a guy like Davis Mills. So you like to see that as well across the board from the Denver Broncos is the cohesion.
Starting point is 00:05:38 Like the offense did not look disjointed this evening. And I think that's a massive win. Because if there's anything that you can rest your head on at night when you go home is, God forbid, Bo Nix gets hurt. God forbid Bo Nix has to miss some time. You should feel confident in a guy like Jared Stidham to step up and, you know, be able to kind of shoulder the load and man the ship for lack of a better friend. race. So love to see that. We got to talk about Sam Ellinger as well. He had himself a nice game in a relief of Jared Stittum. 14 to 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16 of 10.1 yards as well. No touchdowns, no interceptions, but a quarterback rating of 108.9. And I understand the Cardinals only, you know, they didn't really play anybody.
Starting point is 00:06:17 It was a Kobe Brissette took eight snaps today, and then it was really the backups from there on out. But, you know, the fact that the Broncos only allowed one sack without their, you know, majority of their really 97% of their starters out there, that's also something to be happy about. You know, when it comes to the running back room and we'll touch on this after the break, there's a lot to talk about tonight, man. I mean, the receivers as well, Troy Franklin, have a day.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Pat Bryant have a day. Evan Ingram leading the way with that nice play there in the first quarter. We'll talk about all that stuff as we go along throughout the course of the show. But the running back room, you know, which is obviously a major point of emphasis in regards to what you can learn from this preseason. Jaliel McLaughlin, three characters for 48 yards, nothing crazy. Blake Watson gets 10 for 34. Audrick estimated 9 for 20. We'll see what happens with Audrey.
Starting point is 00:07:02 But R.J. Harvey scoring his first touchdown of his NFL career, I'll be in the preseason, but still manages to find his way into the end zone. You absolutely love to see that. So all offensively for the Denver Broncos, they did a great job, all things considered with the circumstances. and now moving forward, you know, you look forward now to this week three preseason game or the third preseason game, rather I should say against New Orleans, kind of put some finishing touches, maybe give some guys some looks that you want to get extended looks at, and shore up this 53-man roster and away we go for the regular season. But so far, so good for the Denver Broncos in this NFL preseason. Led by Jared Stinton tonight had a great, great game more on him in just a little bit.
Starting point is 00:07:40 But why don't we hit a break? and when we come back, we can continue along with the conversation. Let's talk about Pat Bryant. Let's talk about Evan Ingram. Let's talk about Troy Franklin, who had himself an evening here tonight as the Denver Broncos take down the Arizona Cardinals. Your final score 27 to 7. All right. We're going to hit a quick break.
Starting point is 00:07:59 We'll do that and come right back. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section, folks. How are you feeling after this game? Are you feeling relieved? Talk to me about Jared Stidham. What stood out to you in this game tonight as the Denver Broncos improved to 2-0 in the preseason, and taking down the Arizona card. We'll head a quick break, come back and do just that right here on your

Starting point is 00:10:48 But don't worry, Cody and Sarah are not going anywhere, folks. Cody and Sarah are not going anywhere. They're the mothership that make, you know, the glue that makes this channel and this show what it is. So this is just an addition to the channel, an addition to the lockdown Broncos podcast, some instant reaction throughout the course of the season. Got a comment here. Stidim isn't the starter, though.
Starting point is 00:11:07 The Broncos are Bo Nix's team 100%. And that's the thing is I'm not. not going. I'm not taking what we saw from Jared Stidham today and saying, oh, quarterback competition in Denver. That is the last thing on my mind. I think the big takeaway for me is, like I've said a couple of times now, if Bo Nix were to miss a game here or miss a couple of games, you should feel confident in a guy like Jared Stidham. Now, year three in Sean Payton's system, something that he talked about a ton throughout the course of his post game press conference, you should be able to feel confident in what Jared Stitton brings to the table as a backup quarterback
Starting point is 00:11:39 for the Denver Broncos. So that's that on Jared Stidham. Let's talk about the wide receivers, though, here real quick as we wind it down. Troy Franklin, man, you know, obviously a mixed bag in his rookie season for Troy Franklin, but there's a lot of people. We've heard a lot of hype about Troy Franklin and what he's looking like in year two. And tonight, he delivered, man, four receptions, 67 yards, two touchdowns, a long reception of 27 on five targets. I mean, Troy Franklin, I mean, if there was a player of the game, I'd have to give it Troy Franklin. I mean, that second touchdown that he caught, and what is this? The south facing end zone by the south stands.
Starting point is 00:12:15 I mean, it wasn't like a, I mean, it was a one-on-one situation. It wasn't necessarily a high point, I wouldn't call it, but a very athletic, you know, contorting of the body type of play from Troy Franklin to secure his second touchdown of the afternoon, or the evening, rather, I should say, really, really impressive. Drew here says Troy was a beast tonight, absolutely. And that's the thing. You know, I was listening to the pregame show on the radio as I was driving into the stadium. And, you know, there's this conversation of all the Broncos is going to carry six wide receivers. They might just have to. I mean, Pat Ryan's not going anywhere with what Troy Franklin's done in training camp. He's not going anywhere. We know what Cortland Sutton is, right? We know what Marvin Mims is. There's a lot high expectations for him.
Starting point is 00:12:54 And Devon Bailey is loved and admired by a guy like Sean Payton. So, you know, they're going to have a lot of different weapons, a lot of different opportunities, a lot of different, you know, schemes that they can run with the overall depth that they have at the wide receiver position. And tonight it was highlighted. by Troy Franklin, who had himself a night with those two touchdown grabs. Rookie Pat Bryant as well, actually leading the team in reception or receiving yards tonight with four for 70, an average of 17 and a half yards per reception for a long of 29. He is an absolute menace in the middle of the field.
Starting point is 00:13:26 He loves that dig route. And Pat Bryant is a guy that I've been high on since the Broncos drafted him, have had the opportunity to see him throughout the course of training camp. He's made some great eye-catching type of plays as well. Good guy to talk to. We've had some one-on-one interviews with him. He has it up here and he has it physically as well. So, you know, Pat Bryant, you know, obviously a rookie wide receiver, but coming into his own.
Starting point is 00:13:47 And I think tonight, you know, being the leading receiver, I'll be it in a preseason game. You got to love what you saw from Pat Bryant. But I think everybody outside of Troy Franklin, right, that was the star of the show, as was Jared Stead, and we had a nice game. But I think everybody in Broncos country, you know, that Michael Jackson thriller meme with the popcorn, he's eating the popcorn in the theater. When Evan Ingram and his one reception for 58 yards broke a couple of tests, tackles and, you know, running down the sideline and he talked about it in his postgame scrum
Starting point is 00:14:14 about how he wished he would have kept going to score a touchdown. But when you watch Evan Ingram out here, don't you just get excited? I mean, aren't you just hyped up for what Evan Ingram is going to be in this Denver Broncos offense? Look, I know he's got a TE next to his name on the depth chart. He's a tight end. Evan Ingram is really wide receiver too. That's the reality situation. It's Cortland and then Evan Ingram and then we'll see what happens by committee with Marvin, Troy, Devon, and Pat Ryan. But I watched that one play, man. with Evan Ingram, and I'm sitting back and saying, oh, yeah, we knew that Sean Payton has his joker,
Starting point is 00:14:45 but now we've cemented that thought. Evan Ingram is going to be an absolute stud, a stud, assuming you can stay healthy, for this Denver Broncos team. I mean, what I saw from Evan Ingram tonight on that one reception is something I haven't seen from this Denver Broncos team at tight end since Julius Thomas. I mean, that's where we're at.
Starting point is 00:15:04 It's about a decade plus of laxadaisical subpar tight end play. And in that one moment, it took about 20 seconds. You look back and you say, you know what? The Broncos got a good one there. The Broncos got that tight end situation figured out. So you love to see that. And then defensively, man, I mean, there's really not much you could say. I mean, they held the Arizona Cardinals to seven points.
Starting point is 00:15:23 I mean, you got to love that as a whole. I mean, taking a look at the stats here tonight for Arizona. I mean, it was not pretty across the board, 135 total yards of offense. Only eight first downs to Denver's 27. Denver won the time of possession battle 3504 to 2456. So, you know, the Broncos defense without the starters or a majority of the starters, I should say rather, got the job done tonight.
Starting point is 00:15:46 And a lot of young guys that are looking for something to prove on offense also got the job done tonight. So that's where we kind of wrap it up here as the Denver Broncos take down the Arizona Cardinals, 27 to 7. One preseason game remaining, folks. That is, of course, next week against Sean Peyton's former football team, the St. Louis Rams. What am I talking about? The New Orleans Saints, I was close. St. Louis Rams. It's late. It's almost midnight. But that should be fun. Kind of put a bow on the preseason and really get ready now for this regular season.
Starting point is 00:16:18 But you got to love what you saw tonight from the Denver Broncos in their 27 to 7 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Yeah, 97-yard drive was impressive. Absolutely. You know, a lot of good stuff as well. One more comment here. Stidim is as best a backup as you could hope. for our depth is off the charts. Franklin Jackson and our D just rocked it. I can't wait to see more from the tight ends and the running backs. Couldn't agree with you more, Eric. You got to love what you've seen so far from the Denver Broncos. Outside of that little spurt in the first half there against San Francisco and the starters didn't really do anything, which is more of an anomaly to me than something
Starting point is 00:16:50 to read into. But all in all, it has been a successful off season. It has been a successful training camp. And so far, two successful preseason games. All right, folks, that is going to do it for me on tonight's Lockdown Broncos postcast. Hope you guys enjoyed it. You could follow me as the lights turn off in here. Oh, we got a guest appearance or what? We got a guest appearance? Broncos Country. What's up, baby?
Starting point is 00:17:12 I was just telling him how I'm going to be joining the channel throughout the course of the season. Very, very excited for AP. He's doing the postcast. I'm headed home. Sarah Beninger and we're going to record the post game. It's going to be ready for your morning cup of coffee. Broncos Country.
Starting point is 00:17:24 More content, ladies and gentlemen. All right, for Cody Wark, I'm Anilo Piro. This is your locked-on Broncos Postcast. Hope you guys enjoyed the win. We'll do it again next week. Have a good one, folks.
