Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Enelopuro and a straight up shocking start to the season for the Denver Broncos. I'm Sarah Bedinger. The Broncos got embarrassed after a long offseason. I don't know. I didn't think anything could be longer. That game was. I'm Nick Ferguson. And I don't even know what to tell you.
Starting point is 00:00:20 Yes, I do. I got a lot to tell you. Let's get into it. Let's go, fellas. From the South stands, it's the Broncos squad. Everything Denver Broncos every week. covering all the big hits and game-changing plays from the Mile High City, the way only the Locked-on podcast network can.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Gear up and squad up. The Broncos Squad Show starts now. It is your Lock-on Broncos Squad Show right here on your Lockdown Broncos YouTube channel and audio feed. I want to thank everyone in Broncos country who is rocking with us after an absolutely positively disgusting, embarrassing performance for the Denver Broncos as they fall to the Kansas City Chiefs 31 to 10 in the opening night matchup, or their week one matchup, rather. And tonight's episode of your lockdown Bronco Squat show is brought to you by our friends over at Cali.
Starting point is 00:01:13 For limited time, download Cali and use code locked on to get $25 when you trade $25. Cali, trade what's next. I mean, you've got to get the butter out, Sarah. I mean, it was Butterfinger Central for this Broncos defense. Like, my goodness, that was, I don't know what was worse. the Broncos offense of the Broncos defense, fellas. I mean, that was in a failure of epic proportions for Denver out of the gate. It was as far as first impressions go about as bad of a first impression for this team as you
Starting point is 00:01:45 could have made. I mean, where do you start? You start at the top. I mean, when you talk about the roster that was assembled, bringing everybody back for this team, embracing continuity, and then adding Jalen Waddle as the missing piece, what we saw from this Denver Broncos team in this. season opener is that the guys that they brought back while it wasn't working and adding jalen wattle did absolutely nothing they didn't get him involved whatsoever in this game so i like you said i don't know
Starting point is 00:02:12 what was worse the offense or the defense in this game i mean the mistackles defensively i would say that was probably the worst thing that i've seen from this denver broncos team since the 70 point debacle but it was just an absolute atrocity from start to finish it was there was nothing to hang your hat on from a game like this. There's nothing that you can go look back and say, well, at least, you know, someone so-and-so played well because it doesn't matter. I mean, was this the penalty for trying to get Evan Ingram more involved in the offense? That's why I texted the group cat. All right, we got Evan Ingram involved, but we're going to lose by 21 points against Kansas City to peg-leg Patrick, you know, and I don't understand that. You can't stop Patrick Mahomes.
Starting point is 00:02:55 He looked like the same guy, and he, you allowed him to look like the same guy. Just every thing. Nick, what did you see here? Because I'm flat out embarrassed. I'm embracing. I got already razzed by my two nephews over a group chat. I'm getting razzed on Twitter. And it's deserved like the Broncos deserve all the memes this week. Yeah, they do. But I mean, in true profession, I got to give shout out to Kansas City because they came out and they dominated. This was not the game that any of us had projected, not neither the performance at all. But and, you know, tonight, you know, Patrick Mahomes playing at home, and we all figured, okay, well, he's coming off ACL and LCL injury.
Starting point is 00:03:38 And I talked about, you know, Vance Joseph getting after him and blitzing, he's trying to see what his leg is like and testing him. But listen, he still looked like vintage Patrick Mahomes. And it goes back to not the scheme itself, gentlemen, it's the guys, right? If you have a rush lane, you maintain your rush lane, right? and you always put an edge on the defense, as my mom would say, the left hand has no what the right hand is doing.
Starting point is 00:04:05 If they don't, you're going to find yourself in trouble. And when you look at one play, if there's one play in the game, it was the fourth and one play, the fourth and one play. And you get Kenneth Walker who bounces on outside. You got Q Robinson right there. You got Riley Moss right there.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Neither guy's playing their assignment. And guess what? Now you got Brandon Jones, one-on-one with Kenneth Walker. You're saying, okay, he's at least going to push him out of bounds. No, he didn't. It's a touchdown. And I said this, listen, man, I haven't played this game in several years.
Starting point is 00:04:41 But I've coached it. And the main thing you have to start with is coaching run fits. Then with the passing game, if you don't know run fits and you can't tackle, then guess what? You don't have to worry about patching my homes actually running the ball. Because when you look at the Broncos, 61 yards rushing, to 220 yards and one guy had 23 carries
Starting point is 00:05:02 for 173 yards by himself. And at what point did either Sean Payton or Davis Webb said, well, you know what? We're going to run the ball. Not until the third quarter
Starting point is 00:05:15 and they ran three straight plays in a row. You're like, when the hell was this before? Oh, I'm sorry. We've seen this movie before. So whether it's Davis Webb or Sean Payton, you don't run the ball until you actually need to run. on the ball, man. I'm, look, I even hit Canoy Kennedy up on social media and I say, dog.
Starting point is 00:05:34 We've been out of the game a long time. We need to come back. We need to come back, man. God, man. Go of these boys how it's done. Look, hey, you know what else? You know what else? Who didn't need Kenneth Walker this offseason? Apparently the Broncos, right? Because they could have gone out and signed him. They could have at least tried and they didn't. So I know, hey, look, I'm going to make sure I got all my teeth after we're done because the new year actions in week one. We must be emotional, everybody. We know it's a long season.
Starting point is 00:06:04 We know that the Broncos have a lot of games left to be played. But man, yeah, you got a you got to vent a little bit after a blowout loss like this. And I think honestly, like I said, it starts at the top. You went through your offseason approach. You didn't feel like it was necessary to go after a big name free agent running back like Kenneth Walker, who, you know, was the Super Bowl MVP. and played really well in the postseason for Seattle. So you don't go make a move like that.
Starting point is 00:06:30 And that's immediately going to burn you in week one. I mean, the guy had 191 yards from scrimmage, two total touchdown. And he forced probably at what, 20 of the 28 missed tackles that the Broncos had out there in this game. It was just, it was pathetic. And so it starts with that. But then it goes back to the guys who are missing the tackles, not just Riley Moss, but namely number 49 out there, Alex Singleton, missing tackles left and right in this game. And you could have gone out and gotten Devin Lloyd. You could have gone out and got
Starting point is 00:06:58 Caden Ellis. You could have drafted anybody at the position. But man, for that to continue looking as bad as it has is really disappointing and disheartening because of the approach to the roster, the dedication to continuity, the dedication to the players who have, you know, while he's been in the defense for this long. I mean, I know we kind of get on his back and it was a lot of different guys missing tackles. It wasn't just Alex Singleton. Obviously, we know that. However, those are the offseason moves that everybody said, you need help at running back.
Starting point is 00:07:31 You need help at linebacker. The Broncos didn't upgrade either position. They brought back the same guys. And they brought one rookie into this game. Nobody on this team that is a new acquisition helped in week one. Nobody helped. So you're telling me a team that went to the AFC championship game last year. You couldn't find one single player.
Starting point is 00:07:52 to help this team get better. I know Jalen Waddle, over the course of the season, we expect he is going to be that guy, the hopeful missing piece. But your plan for the missing piece was three targets, one catch for two yards, and he drops a key third down. I mean,
Starting point is 00:08:09 guys, like the offseason approach for this Broncos team really, really was disappointing in the moment. And you hoped that we were overreacting. You hoped that we were wrong. This game proves like they've got, a lot of making up to do. It's a lot to unpack. I know you're saying a lot of work to do.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Yeah, I didn't have this one on the bingo cart. And as we look at what's in store for the Broncos after tonight's game, you got Jacksonville, you got the Rams, you got San Francisco, you got the Chargers, and then you have Seattle and the Cardinals. I mean, we all circle to, I know I did circle that Cardinals game. Like, that's a dub. right now, I don't even know. And I don't want to say that
Starting point is 00:08:55 I'm in this massive panic, but this was a game going against Kansas City that I felt as though they could win this game because Kansas City had the revamped secondary. They had wide receiver who have speed, but there was not a lot of chemistry with Patrick Mahomes. Yeah, they added Kenneth Walker. I know what a dog
Starting point is 00:09:11 of a guy he was, but I didn't know he would kind of run to the tune of what he did today. So if you can't beat Kansas City on the row, and once again, I don't want to go in full of panic. But at the same time, we're having a reaction. And my reaction, I'm breaking out in hives here, man. I need some calendula cream or something because I'm breaking out in a full, all-fledged rash right now, a rash of freaking frustration. So I want to dive in. Obviously, we got a little bit of time
Starting point is 00:09:40 here tonight to kind of digest a lot of his stuff. So I think we need to kind of separate it a little bit of, you know, the tackling issues. I think we're Paramount Bow Nix and the offense is certainly something to talk about. Of course, with David. And Davis Webb. But I think fellows curious to get your opinion on this one. Like this one is way more to me about Denver's failure to execute than it was Kansas City taking advantage of opportunities. Like give credit what credit is due. As Nick said, like Kansas City made some place when they needed to, but like it just felt like Denver was allowing them to get every single thing that they wanted to going offensively and weren't putting any pressure on them defensively with their
Starting point is 00:10:14 inability to stop the run. Denver against the past was actually pretty solid for majority of the night. It felt like, at least in the first half, right? So to me, fellas, whether it's tackling, play calling, Bo Nixon aptitude. This is much more to me about a lack of focus and a lack of ability to go out there and execute a game plan that it is Kansas City just having some magic wand than having the refs on their side or anything like that. Well, to your point, I mean, Kansas City or Patrick Mahomes was three of 13 passing. I think at one point for 25 yards or something like that. And there was nothing going downfield. The Broncos just couldn't tackle.
Starting point is 00:10:48 I was asking myself and I was asking all the other group chats that I'm in, like, why don't they just keep handing it off to Kenneth Walker? Because the Broncos can't stop that. Anytime they were trying to throw, it was like quick three and out for the Broncos defense here and, you know, quick stop for the defense there. It just felt like Kansas City's running game with Kenneth Walker was the kryptonite in this game. And the Broncos honestly just had no answers offensively all throughout the game. The first drive of the game, interception from Bo Nix.
Starting point is 00:11:17 You could tell the defender got a hand up in the throwing lane there to affect Bo. And that seemed to really dictate the kind of way that he played the rest of the game. How often do we see Bo Nix getting sacked like this? I mean, to say that this offensive game plan was discombobulated and the Broncos weren't able to do anything that resembled competent football on either side of the ball would be an understatement. It just, it felt like to your point, Anilo, like, man, yeah, the chiefs they just handed it off to Kenneth Walker. It's not like a, you know, earth-shattering game plan. Go tackle the guy.
Starting point is 00:11:56 They throw a quick pass out to Rishie Rice. And I'm like sitting there. I'm thinking, not you, anyone else on your roster, not you, not Rishie Rice. You know what I'm saying? Like, please don't let that guy make a play. Two guys have him dead to rights and you can't. I mean, it's just a simple screenplay. And you've got guys in position and they're not making plays.
Starting point is 00:12:15 So it is. And I don't like, I don't like the, just after the game, the answers to the questions. I know Singleton was one new answered. I know others. Like, we'll be fine. Like, we'll be, it's basically, it's no big deal. Like, we'll get it figured out. It's like, get this figured out before week one and go out there and show that you're,
Starting point is 00:12:33 this doesn't look like a contending team. This doesn't look like a Super Bowl team. Like Nick said, doesn't look like a team that can beat the Arizona Cardinals. Like, that's pathetic that we're talking like that after week one. And like I said, first impressions. or Sean Payton teams historically slow in the month of September. Why does it got to be this way? Why does it always got to be this way?
Starting point is 00:12:55 Well, it makes you think about the preseason and how a lot of the starters didn't get a lot of playing time. And I know someone say, okay, well, Nick, that's a justify. It may be viewed as a justify, but it is true. But it's still not a reason for you to come out when you've had a couple of weeks to prepare for this. And this was the last game. right this was the crescendo of week one where we saw a lot of teams put up a massive amount of points like we saw a ben jonson and chicago bears put up like a college football score right so you're thinking okay from my standpoint with all the offensive weapons and davis webb taking over man they're about to unleash the hounds and when i saw you know evan ingram catch the touchdown i was like well that's what we talked about we talked about the relationship between evan ingram and davis webb and how that was going to get him more
Starting point is 00:13:46 involved and I was like yes. So now we got the tight end in the end zone. Something we didn't really get a lot to see last season. Now I was like, okay, here we go. We got Marvin Mims. We got Pat Bryant, Troy Franklin. We got Corlin Sutton, right? And we got Jalen Wado. The guy that we talked a lot about in training camp. And it just seemed as though Jalen Wado was treated a little like Marvin Mims. He wasn't really involved a lot. Now we saw, you know, Jailen Wado like doing those same type of plays that we saw Marvin Mims when he was in, where he was, we were run somewhat of a swing route to draw the attention of the defense, hoping to open things up. But then nothing else came.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Now, yeah, he dropped the, he dropped the pass. Sometimes that happens. But when we look at what happened to Bo Nix and think about that third downplay, right? When everyone's saying, well, we need a better play call. How about this? How about getting your right tackle not to allow penetration in your quarterback's face to speed him up faster than he wanted to because here's what we're seeing last year pro football focus had the broncos offensive line ranked that number one in the lead because they gave up very few
Starting point is 00:14:55 sacks you know why it was because number 10 was running and what didn't we not see number 10 do tonight that we saw 15 do for kansas city chiefs run the ball when the pocket started to break down yeah i mean i i agree with you i think the offensive line the pocket breaking down as part of it or is a significant part of it but i also will think there's no other way to slice it. I was like Bo Nix was like seeing ghosts out there. Like I didn't see like any confidence whatsoever in Bo Nix in this game. I don't know, you know, if the ankle, you know, just kind of getting, you know, back on the flow. Don't start that. But I'm saying, did Bo Nix look comfortable to you guys like at all? Like to me, you've seen
Starting point is 00:15:35 ghost the entire game. The third play of the game, he throws an interception. Anillo, just think about it. If you were behind that office of line tonight, you too would have been seeing ghosts because on the interception that he, you know, the interception that he, through that he was trying to throw the Corland Sutton on the dig route, guess where the pressure came off the left side over Ben Powers? And this arm was hit a little bit, right? But once again, you still have to throw that ball where your receiver can catch it. But this is kind of a problem.
Starting point is 00:16:00 And what we saw week one on the road, the Broncos didn't seem to be ready for the Monday night matchup. Yeah, no, I mean, and here's the thing. Like, it's collectively everyone's got to get better, right? Obviously, the quarterback's going to take a lot of blame just because of the position that he plays. And again, I think it was probably the worst game of Bo Nix's career. Like I'm trying to think back to his rookie season. Baltimore was pretty rough. I'm sure there's a couple of more as well. But I mean, this is one of, if not the worst game of Bo Nix's
Starting point is 00:16:28 NFL career. So it comes in week one. We'll kind of get into some silver linings and optimistic points of view a little bit later on the shovel. We've got to react to the defense when we come back after an absolutely abysmal showing, actually a historically bad showing from the defense and their inability to tackle here tonight. All that more when we come back right here on your Lockedon Broncos squad show. Tonight's episode of your Lockedon Broncos Squat show is brought to you by our friends over at Better Help guys. Starting point is 00:19:50 All right, we'll come on back into our Tom Broncos squad show, eloped hero, Sarah Bedinger, and Nick Ferguson, hanging out with you guys here reacting to a gutless performance, an embarrassing way to start the season for the Denver Broncos as they fall to their division foe, Kansas City Chiefs, 31 to 10, your final score in this one. Not a whole lot of positivity to take away from this game. Let's hone it on the defense, though, here a little bit, in particular, the mistackles. I mean, I felt like outside of the Marvin Mims discussion that we had a handful of times this offseason, the one thing that I personally remember just kind of hammering home, neither one of them got injured. But I was so concerned about the Broncos of the linebacker position. Singleton, Sternad, you know, probably the weak point of the Broncos defense is probably a fair way to put it last year,
Starting point is 00:20:38 despite the unit collectively being pretty good. I mean, it was a disaster tonight, fellows. Like, linebacker, but beyond that, like Riley Moss, Jonah Ellis, J-Quinn. and I know he had a good pass breakup at one point, but like I just did not expect the Broncos to like literally not even attempt to wrap up on a tackle. Like it was almost comedy to see like late in the game, like late in the third quarter, late in the fourth quarter,
Starting point is 00:21:02 because like in the first half I'm like, okay, they're going to figure this out. They're going to, you know, clamp down on defense. And it's just like whether it's Kenneth Walker or, you know, any of these receivers, it's like, like, joop, jump, jump, like butterfingers left and right. I mean, it was unbelievable to watch a lack of execution from this Broncos defense.
Starting point is 00:21:19 tackling wise fellas. It starts with singleton and trickles down to a lot of other players. It was a disgrace. Go figure with the 49ers absolutely just smacking around the Los Angeles Rams in week one. What do we see from them more than really anything else defensively, physicality at the lineback position? And I think that the Broncos lacked that in a big way, whether it was attacking the line of scrimmage in the run game, whether it was making plays in space. I mean, what have you? I mean, wrapping up, it was all. encompassing. It was just, like I said, and like we've been talking about, this was just an embarrassing effort from start to finish. When you have 28 missed tackles in a game and a
Starting point is 00:21:59 mistackle rate nearing 30 percent, that's that's atrocious. That's something that after the game, a captain like Singleton should be saying, like, that was that was one of the worst like that I've ever been part. I don't understand the mindset in going, going to the media and saying, I will figure it out. We like, like, no, let's talk about how bad it was and say like that was embarrassing.
Starting point is 00:22:25 That was unacceptable. I didn't see the full press conference that he did, but the clip that's going around is just kind of saying, yeah, we'll be fine. I just don't like that. I want this team to take every single game so seriously and not, like I understand that there's a big picture approach to everything that happens
Starting point is 00:22:44 within like these one game sample sizes. right there's also got to be a big picture approach however i want this team to have a mentality that this game against kansas city could have division title implications at some point not we'll we'll be fine we'll get it figured out like this wasn't a warm up game this wasn't a preseason game this was hey both of you guys singleton and sternad you guys just got new contracts you guys just got a bunch of guaranteed money you guys just got chosen over the field of other veterans and rookies that are coming into this league. By the way, the rookies all around the league had great games. Rodriguez for the dolphins. Great game. Trotter for the Buccaneers.
Starting point is 00:23:28 Great game. A lot of these young players that are coming in are out playing the veterans who know the defense for the Denver Broncos. And I just, I can't stand it. I can't stand the lack of dazical approach. I can't stand the lack of physicality. I can't stand repeated mistakes. Nick, as a coach and as a former player. How bad does it pain you to see repeated mistakes? Like I get if it happens one time, if something happens one time, all right, we can write it off. If it happens again, I mean, that's, that's ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:24:01 And it's unacceptable. And it can't just be written off as, oh, we'll figure it out. Like, I just, I hate that mentality. See, that's kind of what a player would say that, hey, we have figured out. That's because they know. So the self-inflicted wounds were conducted by themselves. And in your mind as a player, you say, okay, well, we can go out and fix these issues. So if everyone's where they need to be, we wrap up.
Starting point is 00:24:29 And one of the bigger reasons that the Broncos were missing tackles, because you have to know where your help is. You have to know where the other defender is. But the other thing is, there were a lot of guys who were leaving their feet. With a guy like Kenneth Walker and you leave your feet, you have nothing. thing that's giving you a solid base and he can he's going to run through arm tackles and what i saw him doing tonight was similar to what i saw and what i what i played against when i played against ladenian thomason when he was playing for the charges he had a jump cut stiff arm that was mean
Starting point is 00:25:04 and watching kennett walker have a change of direction because i know you know we heard a lot about jaylon wado and his ability start change of direction but kenneth Walker showed you exactly what a premier running back should actually look like. The fact that he can jump in a hole, there's a defender right there in front of him, he can stop and jump to the side and you miss him. That tells you, man. And there's only so many runnerbacks that I've seen that had those capabilities. And once upon a time, I saw John Lynch, when he was playing for the Tampa Big Buccaneers,
Starting point is 00:25:41 actually have, like, Barry Sanders lined up in the A-Gas. We were just mono and mono. Next thing I know, John was on his knees because that's what a jump cup runner who can operate in small spaces can actually do. So I understand why Alex say what he said. They have a lot of things to fix, and these are all fixable things, but as a player, you have to go out and do it. And I'll remind people, remember that embarrassing game that we saw when the Broncos played the Miami Dolphins, dolphins put almost 70 on them? that was another tackling disaster guys out of place guys not tracking the right the near leg and not
Starting point is 00:26:21 tackling so we saw them somewhat overcome that to be one of the better defensive units in the league so i'm going to hold out hope to say that if they get those things correct then they can get back on track but here's the downside of it the way the schedule is set up right or let me let me still a phrase from, you know, Kevin Hart. The way my bank account is set up, the way that things account is set up right now for the Denver Broncos, it's going to be hard for them to kind of get things back on track, but it's going to come down to the players actually getting it done.
Starting point is 00:26:57 Let me put this in perspective. There's a tweet that's going around on Broncos Twitter right now. This comes from at Tampa Bay Trey. I don't know how to say his last name. His name is Trevor, but he covers the NFL for the NFL. He says, however bad you thought the Broncos tackling was against the Chiefs, it was even worse. Denver's 248 missed tackle yards allowed were the most in a single next-gen stats database, the entire database.
Starting point is 00:27:26 There are 29.8% mistackle percentage is the third worst single game score since 2018, fellas. I mean, we're talking about almost 10 years of data here. and the Broncos, you know, are up there towards the top of the list for just an all-time bad performance. I mean, it's, it's, and here's the thing. It's one thing for the Dallas Cowboys to do what they did on Sunday night football against Giants. Like, we know that defense has had problems. But we're talking about a Broncos defense that was one of the best upper echelon units across the board last season. That's the shocking part to me is this is supposed to be the strength of this team, and it was anything but tonight.
Starting point is 00:28:04 Yeah, it was, I mean, just one big play. after another for number nine on Kansas City. I mean, seven and a half yards per carry for a running back in his first game with a team that's got a rookie left tackle and undrafted rookie free agent at left tackle when the center is bowling the ball to the quarterback three times in this game. Like, I don't know, guys. It just the killer instinct frequently, I feel, has been missing from this Denver Broncos team. And I know that they won 14 games last.
Starting point is 00:28:37 year and I'm not going to diminish any sort of come from behind victories or one score victories. And I won't diminish wins because it's difficult to win in the NFL in general. But I think even amidst the winning last season, we all kind of agreed that this team was missing a killer instinct, starting fast, putting the pedal to the metal, keeping your foot on the gas, and really just taking over games with the amount of talent and the discrepancy of talent that you had. I don't think anybody would have disagreed going into this game. The Broncos have a more talented overall roster than Kansas City. I mean, when it comes to just flat out, the chiefs obviously haven't drafted well in recent years. They played way better in this game, but their
Starting point is 00:29:19 roster just flat out has not been as good. They've played way better tonight. But that's part of why this is so frustrating is that the Broncos roster is that good. They have so many talented players, but they just, like we've been talking about, the execution absolutely wasn't there. And it's just, I can't, I can't stand it. When you have that much talent, when you have that much continuity, when you have the experience head coach and coaching staff, and then you come out there and you're missing tackles. You're getting delay of game penalties.
Starting point is 00:29:53 You're dropping passes once again. You're getting a possession that starts at the five yard line and not scoring a touchdown. I mean, that is the lack of killer instinct coming out there and not running the ball up the gut on a number of different opportunities. Third and one, you go empty backfield, five receivers out there and you don't just run it up the gut. What happened to the Adam Prentice play that worked seven times in the preseason? I mean, I just, I was the preseason, I guess that was just for the preseason. Yeah, if it works, we're not going to use it. That's what I, that's what I gleaned from that one.
Starting point is 00:30:29 So it just, I can't stand the lack of killer instinct from this team. And that's something that I think if they want to win a Super Bowl, they've got to figure out a way to have that because you can have all the talent on paper that you want. But if you don't have a killer instinct, you're not going to go far no matter what. It says hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. And that was the case tonight. That's what we saw. I mean, a roster, like you said, Sarah, which,
Starting point is 00:30:59 was supposed to be so much better because you're bringing everyone back. You're running it back, even though that's not the phrase that Sean Payton wanted anyone in the media to use. But that was kind of the strength of the team. And then you go out there in front of the nation after we had a slate of great games on Sunday. And that's what you do. Now, here's a great part about it. The season isn't over, right? They get a chance to play again, you know, next Sunday.
Starting point is 00:31:27 Now, the problem is that they're going to feel. facing an opponent that beat them already when they were undefeated at home. And that's Jacksonville. And I'm sure, you know, Liam Cohn is watching that game. Now, I don't think that Jacksonville will have a running game, sort of like what Kansas City was able to bring out tonight. But they do have two good running backs in Jacksonville who can tote the rock. And, you know, hey, they got some skilled players on that side of the ball, too, with Trevor
Starting point is 00:31:54 Lawrence. So it's not going to be an easy win for the Broncos. The Broncos now have to lick their wounds and bowed back from this. But on that playing ride, man, I'm sure, man, it's going to be really quiet because there's going to be some self-reflecting. And the biggest thing I want to see from this team and the coaches staff is accountability. Yeah, a couple of notes here as well, as we know, 28 missed tackles for the Broncos tonight against the Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:32:22 Eight different players with multiple missed tackles tonight for the day. Denver Broncos. I mean, that is just unacceptable. Patrick Mahomes, this one came across my timeline. The only quarterback in week one to not complete a pass for over 10 yards down the field with the minimum of 10 attempts. That is terrible. And then, you know, one of the big ones here too, third down efficiency. Denver 2 for 12 on third down tonight. Kansas City, 9 of 17. That's over 50% on third down. Two for three on fourth down. Denver 0 for 1. I mean, it was just, it was ugly. I mean, it's just use whatever bad adjective you want. You know, that's fair and reasonable, of course. But like, there's nothing too strong right now about the way that you want
Starting point is 00:33:06 to describe this game, disgusting, pitiful, gross, you know? It's just, it all kind of fits with what we saw tonight from the Denver Broncos. Frankly, they did not show up in this game. Well, Nilo, here's what I would tell you guys. And I don't think people in Broncos country will like what I have to say. And what that means is that when you thought Kansas City was dead and you're ready to bury them and throw dirt on them with Kenneth Walker back there. I mean, it's going to be a problem. And they already beaten the Denver Broncos. So they have a one-game lead on you in the division already.
Starting point is 00:33:39 And if they get things going from a passing standpoint, that's going to make them really difficult to beat. There's a reason why the lastmaker is man the favorite. Yeah, I don't think, guys, like, let's be honest here. you ain't getting 30% miss tackle rate every single week. I mean, if you're the Kansas City Chiefs, like, yeah, you put the belt to the Broncos, you know what in this game. And I'm not going to diminish what they were able to do.
Starting point is 00:34:07 But that, once again, and we said this was a lot more about the Broncos not executing. The Broncos failing themselves. The Broncos absolutely laying an egg in this game than it was Kansas City just going out there and beating the brakes off this team. I mean, if you cut that mistackle rate even in half, you get a tackle on one fourth and one play. This game looks a lot of different. So I just think that obviously Kansas City deserves credit for going out there, executing, you know, breaking tackles, right? But I just, yeah, I mean, I'm not, I'm not trying to anoint them once again.
Starting point is 00:34:44 I don't know. We'll see. I think the AFC is looking pretty, I don't know, pretty loaded like we thought. So I think it's just generally speaking this conference. And I don't know, it's looking a lot better than I think anyone expected. And it's going to be tough. I'm not trying to crown Kansas City. But this was a game that the Broncos needed to win to put more pressure on Kansas City.
Starting point is 00:35:11 They didn't win the game. So now they have the pressure on them. When they face the charges both times, they have to win both of those games. They cannot split because they have the hope. when they host Kansas City, they now return a favor to Kansas City. And this is with the hope that the Broncos are going to take both games against the Raiders.
Starting point is 00:35:31 If the Broncos somehow split with the Raiders and split with Kansas City, they now put themselves in a very difficult spot. That's why this game tonight was so important. And I don't know what Coach Payton said to the team after or what he said on the plane. but I just know he's hotter than fish grease right now. Yeah, look, I mean, we'll kind of get into some big picture implications
Starting point is 00:35:59 throughout the course of the week and just what this means and give ourselves obviously some time to digest this loss here tonight. But let's hit a quick break. When we come back, let's talk about the offense, though. A lot of anticipation for Davis Webb as the play caller, not exactly what we wanted to see from the offense as a whole. Jalen Waddle was a ghost. Corlin Sutton was a ghost.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Troy Franklin pushing off. Pat Brian, I guess, was solid, but then faded late in the game. What do we see from the offense? We'll break that down. We'll come back right here on your lockdown Rocko Squadron. What's going on, everybody? My name is Ross Jackson, host of the Lockdown at Saints podcast. And today's Lockdown episode is brought to by our friends at Basque and Lather.
Starting point is 00:36:41 I've been using Basque and Lather's all natural, 100% organic hair care products for my beard for a couple years now. And it's been a lifesaver because I used to have some bad beard care habits. I'm talking over-the-counter shampoo and the, beard type stuff that created this brittle, scratchy and uncomfortable beard that I just had to wear around all the time. But now the game done changed.
Starting point is 00:37:01 Thanks to bask and lather, I got their beard care starter kit, which gave me shampoo, conditioner, oil balm, and their hair growth stimulator formula as well. And now my beard is full. It's soft but strong. And the confidence is on 10. And it's all thanks to bask and lather.
Starting point is 00:37:18 Explore viral bestsellers and products of healthier hair of all types from. Baskin Lather. Go to Baskin Lathercoe.com and use the promo code locked on for 20% off. That's 20% off at Baskinlather C.O.com code locked on. Code locked on there at the end. Sorry. We'll come on back into your lockdown, Bronco squad. Jone Lo Piro Serbendinger and Nick Ferguson hanging out here with you guys. 31 to 10 year final score here in this one. If you're in the YouTube chat, what troopers you guys are. This is not the show we thought we would be doing. Appreciate everyone that's keeping it
Starting point is 00:37:53 buck and keeping it respectful in the chat. I know there's going to probably be a couple of trolls along the way, but Broncos country holding it down. So, you know, it is what it is. Hit that like button, smash that subscribe button, helps us out here as well. Let's talk about this offense here tonight, fellas. All roads lead back to Davis, one of the play calling. And I think before we kind of talk about Waddle, you know, there's probably not
Starting point is 00:38:14 much to say and just the passing attack, and we know Bo was terrible with the turnovers. Between J.K. Dobbins and R.J. Harvey, 11 carries. I mean, that is almost impossible to process. 11 carries between the two. I mean, Kenneth Walker finished with 23 carries. He had more than double the carries as one running back in Dobbins and Harvey had combined. I mean, I don't know, like, the whole thought with Davis Webb is it was going to be a different look, a different flow, a different system, you know, a wrinkle to the Sean Payton offense. That was like a worst version of the Sean Payton offense, whichever way you slice it, fellas.
Starting point is 00:38:52 I mean, the rushing attack was literally non-existent, literally. And here's the other thing. I mean, J.K. Dobbins had four and a half yards per carry. Orchia Harvey had six yards per carry on his three touches. It's not like they were just running into a brick wall every time. I mean, like, I just don't understand the reluctance to run the ball. And I understand you were down early. That factors into it.
Starting point is 00:39:10 But my gosh, 11 carries combined is a joke. Yeah, it is. I mean, we know this is a throwing team. They led the NFL in past attempts last season. But I think we all assumed that there would be a shift in philosophy this year, given the fact that they brought in, you know, they brought back JK Dobbins. You bring in Jonah Coleman.
Starting point is 00:39:29 You run a lot more from under center during the preseason. We're kind of seeing maybe some hints here and there that this could be a, you know, let's get north and south. Let's run the football. Let's establish our identity in that case. And I think one play that are a couple plays that really indicate to me that this Broncos team is not shifting identity is the third and one where they empty the. backfield, right? So, I mean, essentially you're saying, hey, we're going one dimensional on
Starting point is 00:39:57 this play. There's no threat of running the ball unless Bo Nix takes it on a draw, which he didn't. We know that now. But then that first play after the interception by Brandon Jones, when your drive is set up at the five, it wasn't just a let's go, let's go bully these guys into the end zone. It was a little toss out to RJ Harvey, get to the perimeter, try to kind of make a play on the outside, let Cortland Sutton and Pat Brian do some blocking out there. And then I think Cortland got, or they, Pat got called for holding, even though it was initially called on Cortland. But you can't just go out there and hand the ball off to J.K. Dobbins and say, go freaking
Starting point is 00:40:35 get this five yards for me right now. We're going to, it's going to be a one play drive. It's still early in the quarter. We have plenty of time in this game. Let's go cap off this interception. Like, let's go do this thing. You know, I don't know. Like, maybe you can help explain this to me, Nick,
Starting point is 00:40:52 why a team would go away from that strategy inside of a huddle, inside of a game plan within the game. Because to me, that was the point at which after you pick off Mahomes, the chiefs finally make a bad mistake and you can take advantage of it. Go punch them in the mouth. Like, that's what I would want to do. But then you pitch it to the outside. It's just nothing about that.
Starting point is 00:41:16 Even though it gained yards, you got down to the two. even if there was no holding penalty, I still hate that call. I do. I just, I feel like it's so finesse. And that's kind of where I've been at with this offensive line for the Broncos, the last couple years is they just feel so finesse.
Starting point is 00:41:34 When it comes to running game, it doesn't feel like at any point you can say, hey, we're going to lean on our guys up front who people keep calling the best O line in the game. Like, we can't lean on these guys to go dominate a game when we need to run the ball. And that's, That's what they proved against Kansas City. Well, what I'm going to lean on is something I've been around as a player
Starting point is 00:41:55 and I've been around as a coach. And that's Mike Shanahan's system as a player and also Kyle Shanahan system as a coach. Now, I've said this to fans long before and I'll say it again. And tonight was definitely an example of what I'm about to express. When you look at, you know, Davis Webb and his first time playing calling plays in a live regular season game, similar to that of Sean Payton. They passed the ball to run the ball. See, if you watch any of the games this past week,
Starting point is 00:42:27 and you can reference the game when the Rams played against, you know, the 49ers in Australia is the fact that they were running the ball. That's how they set up everything. And Boe wasn't under center a lot. He had a couple of plays where he was under center. So if you want to take advantage of Spagnola's defense or defense that's a fast flowing defense you put your quarterback under center you run a fake toss or fake outside zone to get those linebackers moving and that D line moving and then you run
Starting point is 00:43:00 a boot play and then you have your tight end slide out i mean we had already seen Evan ingram catch a touchdown and we already figured that davis web was going to feature him because that was his former teammate that's the perfect play down in the red zone one of those bootleg type of plays and you don't run a toss play against Spag's defense as fast as those guys were running to the ball? That's a no-no. Like, for me, that's a sign of disrespect when a team tries to run a toss sweep on a defense. And that's kind of what we saw. And we never seen the Broncos actually made any kind of adjustments.
Starting point is 00:43:40 And that's the disappointing part. I think here's the bigger question. And we were all wondering this and we had lengthy debates about this. What happens when the Broncos first see their sign of trouble? What is it that Sean Payton does? Is he going to try to pull the play calling duties away from Davis Webb? Or will he allow Davis Webb to work through this on his own? So we'll get a chance to see next week against Jacksonville.
Starting point is 00:44:07 Yeah, I mean, we can save that conversation. We're going to do another show tomorrow, and I'm sure Cody will have some thoughts about Davis. I'll poke the bear a little bit with him. Oh, he's going to be mad. He's going to be salty. I can't wait. I can't wait.
Starting point is 00:44:22 But, you know, I mean, what did you guys make of Davis when I was play calling tonight? Because I think, you know, kind of like I said into the lead in there with the rushing attack, like, it's hard for me to differentiate. I can't even say that word. It's hard for me to separate the play calling from just how bad Bo was tonight. Like, again, I mean, we're going from the first drive on. Like, Bo was never comfortable. I guess he had that one touchdown pass to Evan Ingram. And it felt like the parting of the Red Sea was like, oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:44:47 like Davis Webb has unlocked Evan Ingram. Like this Broncos' offense is going to start cooking. And lo and behold, that was like the lone bright spot of the night for them. Love seeing Pat Bryant early. I thought it was interesting how much they were utilizing R.J. Harvey early in this game as well. So there was a couple of wrinkles before the game got out of hand that I was like, okay, like what's going on here with Davis Webb and how they're trying to call his offense? But like that's the hard thing for me, fellas,
Starting point is 00:45:10 is separating just the abysmal performance of Boe for maybe what Davis was trying to do. and Bo took a lot of accountability after the game as well and talked about, I believe the word he used was pitiful and just really didn't put Davis and really didn't put the offense in a position to go out there and do what Davis was trying to get them to do. So that I think will remain to be seen. I think a lot of people are down on Davis right now. Rightfully so it was a bad performance offensively.
Starting point is 00:45:34 But it's hard for Bo Nix to play much worse. Again, as I said earlier, arguably the worst game of his career. Yeah. And it wasn't like Bo was being super inaccurate with the football. or things like that. It was like he didn't, he, he didn't have time to throw. He was out of rhythm. There was nothing, there was nothing in terms of play sequencing or any sort of,
Starting point is 00:45:56 there was, there was no longevity with these drives that the Broncos had to be able to get into any sort of rhythm. So you see a quarterback who's out of rhythm all throughout the course of a game. He's being pressured pretty much every time he drops back to throw. He's got a hand in his face pretty much every time he drops back to throw. And like I said, you'd see Bo Nix take four sacks in a game. I bet you we can count on one hand the amount of times that's happened over the course of his career. And I hated the involvement of Jalen Waddle in this game.
Starting point is 00:46:28 I hated the plan for getting Corton Sutton involved in this game because what did those two guys do, statistically speaking against Kansas City? Probably nothing. You can look it up. Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims, the receivers that are supposed to be all the, like the deepest receiver room that the Broncos have had under Sean Peyton. Nobody's getting involved and there's no rhythm because there's no balance. There's no flow.
Starting point is 00:46:52 I mean, it just, it feels like the Broncos are trying to draw up these. It's like if you're a basketball offense and you're trying to draw up a three point shot that takes 23 of the 24 seconds on the shot clock to make. And then you're trying to hit the three point or right as the shot clock hits zero every single time you have the ball. That's what every play feels like for the Denver Broncos. offense. It's taking them the entire play clock to get to the line of scrimmage at the first place. It's taken the entire play clock for them to get set or to kill it or whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:47:26 And then when they snap the ball, it feels like everything has to go right just to get past the line of scrimmage. And we've seen this uphill battle for the offense far too many times. And it just didn't, there's no flow. And when you have no rhythm, you have no flow, you have no consistency. You can't do anything. Nobody in the offense was operating with any level of confidence except Evan Ingram. You know what? Who is your leading receiver tonight, by the way? Yes, he has. I think Troy, Troy, not excuse me, Pat Bryant had the most targets with six. Let's see. Yes, he had six and Evan had five. Have you guys ever, do you guys dance at all? Have you guys ever danced?
Starting point is 00:48:08 I'm not a good dancer. Not a good day. Okay, well, the Broncos had two left feet. tonight, right? Because like you said, the flow and the rhythm was totally off. And that's the disappointing part because they never really adjusted. And this is whether it was David or whether it was Sean Payton. We've seen this movie before. The Broncos were struggle, you know, moving the ball and then third down. I mean, they went a lot of third and long situations. So if you're Davis Webb, he's probably thinking, okay, well, here's what I want to run. I can't run what I want to run because we're not being getting positive yards on the first and second down. This was the game plan because it seemed as though the roles were reversed like we were
Starting point is 00:48:54 in some kind of freaky Friday movie because what the Broncos wanted to do defensively saying, listen, we want to make sure that we pressure the chiefs and make sure we put them in third and long situation. I think Khali Benson, Kylie Benson, who was the left tackle. Everyone was like, okay, well, that's going to be the aiming point of the Broncos defense. And Nick Benito was on that side. Guess what? I mean, Nick Benito had no sack, right? He was not, he didn't even impact the game in any way.
Starting point is 00:49:24 That's not me trying to disrespect, you know, anything about what Nick Benito is. But that was a great game plan. Get the ball out of your hand as quickly as possible. Your quarterback is coming off a knee injury. So we want to make sure we frustrate the defense so they can't even get to the depth of the quarterback. Like, I mean, tip your cap to Kansas City. Great game plan, well executed. And here's another level that they figured out.
Starting point is 00:49:48 First, they lost Tyreek Hill, and that removes explosiveness, you know, from downfield. Then it was just Patrick Mahomes. He had to learn to play with younger wide receivers. Now you got a patch of Mahomes who doesn't look like Patrick Mahomes, and they now run the ball, right? For me, I look at it and I say, this is somewhat of a problem that the Broncos definitely have the correct. And once again, I mean, you're not going to be able to overlook the Kansas City Chiefs if they have a guy like Kenneth Walker who can tote the pill like he did tonight.
Starting point is 00:50:20 Yeah, no, you're absolutely right. Let's hit our final break. When we come back, we'll get a couple of closing thoughts out here. Starting point is 00:52:14 Lockdown Broncos YouTube channel and audio feed. We appreciate you guys rocking with us, despite it being a tough Monday night, as the Broncos lose 31 to 10 here to the Kansas City Chiefs start the season off on a sour note. I mean, it's just, it's so disappointing, right? Like, I think that's what it is more than anything, is a season loaded with expectation,
Starting point is 00:52:40 regardless of what you think about with Kansas City or not, just like knowing what Denver was last year, and their ability to get to an AFC championship game. And Bo looking as good as he did, and the defense being what it was. There was just nothing. The players that made you great last year were absolutely crickets to sit on the football field.
Starting point is 00:52:56 I mean, you alluded to it like, and one of our commenters put it out there, like Nick Bonito was invisible. Invisible. The only time I saw him was like, you know, in the replay. I mean, Bo Nix was a mess. Jalen Waddle was invisible. Quarleton Sut was like not a part of this game.
Starting point is 00:53:13 I mean, for all the good. good those guys did last year. And granted, it's one game, fellas. I think the Broncos are going to be okay, right? I'm not panicking all that much. There's just some clear things to clean up here. Knowing how last season ended, it's just going back to the point that you made. The fact that there was like no juice with this team, that's the concerning part to me more than anything.
Starting point is 00:53:34 Yeah, it's very concerning. I mean, you definitely wonder, I know some people are talking about it in the chat, but like how are the Broncos two and a half point favorites at home next week against the jack? the Jaguars. Well, they've been two and a half point favorites since before the game against Kansas City was played. So I don't know if that's going to shift or what, but I mean, obviously, it is one game. And there's really nowhere to go but up after a performance like that, right? I mean, unless you repeat that type of performance, which is entirely possible in the NFL. The Broncos, honestly, just they, it can't get worse. I mean, this team has too much talent.
Starting point is 00:54:11 They're just too. We saw too much from them last year in big games. and big spots and clutch moments for me to believe like that. This is just the norm. I know that last year when this team was one and two to start the season, I still remember folks saying like this this Broncos team might be one in seven or one and eight by the time the trade deadline rolls around or they might be two and nine by the time they get to this game. And like I understand that there are reasons to be upset after a game like this.
Starting point is 00:54:39 There are reasons to be critical of the team after a performance like this, critical of the quarterback, critical of Davis Webb as a play caller for his first game out, critical of Sean Payton for the decisions that he made, critical of George Payton for the roster that was out there for this game. However, it was one game. And yes, it could be bad again against Jacksonville. And still, that would just be one game. Right now, we're in the very early stages of the season and we'll see what happens, right? I mean, obviously this is, this leaves a bad taste in everybody's mouth, especially because it was on a national stage. in the football world is watching.
Starting point is 00:55:15 And it was against Kansas City. And I personally don't know how to feel about Tom Cruise rooting against my favorite team, guys. I mean, that was hard to stomach. I'm a huge Tom Cruise fan. But, man, I don't know how much of a fan I am now. Shoot, but I'll still see another top gun sequel if he's willing to put one out. But I think, look, this was ugly. It was brutal.
Starting point is 00:55:40 And it was one game. So it was embarrassing. we're embarrassed for the moment. We'll see what happens against the Jaguar. What if we're singing a different tune less than a week from now, right? That's very well possible. Jackson will look scary. Listen, I know we're going to break that down on tomorrow's show.
Starting point is 00:55:57 Michelle Tudin had 66 yards and Parker, Washington. You guys may remember him from last year. He had a monster game against Cleveland yesterday, but I'll say that conversation for tomorrow. So to the Victor goes, the spoils, and that's Kansas City tonight. So this is a big poop burger that the Broncos, they have to eat. They have to eat this poop burger, and they have to enjoy it. And they have to say, okay, well, how can we get better next week?
Starting point is 00:56:27 And I wanted to say something, and when we were leading up to this, but we never really got around to it. I was at practice as the Broncos were preparing for the chiefs. And I've seen a lot of teams do this when they use the crowd noise, right? They bring the crowd noise because you want the play calling and all the players get acclimated to it. To me, I think it's a failure. And here's why. Because when teams, you know, pipe in the crowd noise, obviously you can't simulate what you're going to see on game day, whether it's Kansas City or whether it's Seattle.
Starting point is 00:57:02 But they pump in a crowd noise while the play is coming in. Once the play comes in, guess what happens with the crowd noise? They turn it off, right? They turn it off. So now you're working in an environment where you can actually hear. And the reason I'm saying is because you need to have stress on yourself in practice. And we always should talk about straining, right? Straining means that you are going to exhaust yourself to make a play that you wouldn't ordinarily make.
Starting point is 00:57:31 And that's kind of what we saw Kenneth Walker doing all night. He was straining. Once one guy hit him, he wasn't stopping. He was moving his feet. He was finishing runs. And the Broncos defense did not finish tackling. And the Broncos offense, they didn't finish pass plays. And they didn't finish run plays.
Starting point is 00:57:51 So when we talk about why was it that the Broncos lost? They were out physical. They were out-coached. And they didn't finish. You know, and I think the other thing that I would add, and they just got like the biggest slice of humble pie that you could possibly receive. That big poop burger. Yeah, you know, I mean, it was just one of those things where coming into the seas,
Starting point is 00:58:17 like the fan base too, like, and I love the Broncos fans. I do, but like there was like this supreme level of confidence. And I think you should always be confident, right? But it's like, and I said it earlier on the show, like, I think this was more about Denver just blowing the game than it was Kansas City doing anything special. But like, you know, they crashed down to Earth tonight. And I guess my silver lining. and all of this is like you'd rather this happen in week one, you know,
Starting point is 00:58:39 than a game for the division and, you know, later in the year and all that kind of stuff, like get this out of your system early and get this bad taste out of your mouth now and be better for it. I mean, we saw Denver lose two of their first three games last year. Let's see if they can go do kind of the flip here one back-to-back games. Rams didn't look good. No Miles Garrett. You know, there's a chance that might be playing against old pal Drew Locke when Seattle comes to
Starting point is 00:58:57 town in week six. Yeah. Are the Rams going to be, are the Rams going to, you know, go winless for their first seven games? I mean, that's the reality of week one in the NFL is that, look, like, crazy stuff does happen, right? I mean, the Chargers beat the Cardinals. The Rams got blown out. I mean, Drew Locke beat the New England Patriots.
Starting point is 00:59:18 Weird stuff happens, right? So it's like, hey, stuff happens. You got to eat the burger, you know, like Nick is talking about it. Eat the burger, man. Eat it. I want to say, too, like, was it not weird to you guys during the game? that ESPN was like started randomly talking about Jonathan Cooper late in the game. I don't know if you noticed that or if you put on the Simmons make a there was a
Starting point is 00:59:45 yeah, I saw Justin's post about it as well. And I was kind of thinking, man, like that was that was odd. Like ESPN has had an odd weekend from college game day segment. If anybody watched that to now Cooper, who wasn't even playing in the game. And I just thought it was very. out of place felt like a, I don't know,
Starting point is 01:00:07 just a weird vibe, weird atmosphere during the game. They were very, they were being very critical of, of the Broncos. And so I don't know. I mean, I'm just saying it feels like if a lot of folks
Starting point is 01:00:20 want the Broncos to fail. And I'm not saying that's Troy Aikman or Joe Buck or what have you, but just the whole vibe of this game, man, was just not, not what anyone wanted, especially after the long off season. Like I talked about at the beginning,
Starting point is 01:00:34 in the show. We waited all. It's the longest off season ever. And then you got to sit through a game like that is just absolutely brutal. Yeah. I thought Troy was fair. I thought Troy was more than fear on the broadcast tonight. Like, Cooper stuff aside, like when it came to analyzing what was going down on the field and Troy's tight with Sean. Like I thought
Starting point is 01:00:52 I thought the Broncos just did themselves no favors tonight, fellas plain and simple. I think what they were trying to do because the game looked like it was so one-sided. And you look at what the Broncos were able to do defensively. Last season and you said, well, what part of the element was missing? And you think about John the Cooper. And you say, okay, well, and they even discussed it. They said, well, I think it was Joe Buck might have said, or maybe Troy, Troy, Eichman said, it wouldn't have mattered if John the Cooper was
Starting point is 01:01:20 in the game. They couldn't get to the quarterback, you know, fast enough because the ball was coming out of his hand so quickly, and they decided to run the ball. So I know it wasn't really what people wanted to hear talking about Johnny Cooper in his situation but I mean some people would factor that in hey listen if Cooper were in the game would the outcome have been any different and I would say no the outcome
Starting point is 01:01:47 wouldn't have been any different. Unless he could tackle I mean you know I mean somebody needed to tackle others no nobody was tackling well Sarah let's be totally honest if Cooper did play in the game I mean Kenneth Walker was going to be passing me Anyway. Now, if you say he's going to be a running chase guy down the field, five, 10, 15, 60 yards down the field, then I would be with you. But I don't think he would have made a massive impact because what Kenneth Walker was doing as far as running the ball inside, man, he was showing the interior of that defense up. And, you know, no, he wouldn't, Cooper wouldn't have made a difference. The only way he would have made a difference if he was a Mike linebacker. That's about it.
Starting point is 01:02:30 the same problem different year Broncos linebackers when are we going to figure it out when are they going to figure it out I mean geez heck of a start for the season fellows oh my gosh 31 to 10 your final score of the Broncos unfortunately start the season off with an embarrassing loss hopefully the worst loss they take all year right I think let's let's fill up that cup here a little bit like hopefully this is the bottom of the barrel this is the loss that gets them going right? Exactly. This is the loss that gets them going. At least that's what we would like to think. The wake up call. Yes. Sarah,
Starting point is 01:03:11 any closing thoughts before we get out of here? No, I can't wait to talk about it again tomorrow. I'm so real. I can't wait. I'll come up with some optimistic spin zone takes. How about that? Well, that's going to be one hell of a span then.
Starting point is 01:03:29 Yeah. No, I mean, that's the thing is it's, it's, you got to isolate into one game, right? Like, I think this Jacksonville game now becomes all that more interesting, right? We'll break that down, manana. But flush it down the toilet, right? Try to be better because of this.
Starting point is 01:03:41 It was also kind of a wacky week one, which I'll kind of hint at and get into a little bit tomorrow too. So we shall see. Nick, anything for you before we get out of here? Hey, man, hey, listen, it's a long season. It's week one. Go lick your wounds. Eat that poop burger.
Starting point is 01:03:57 Brush your teeth. And come out next week against Jacksonville and the home opener and look to change the minds of the people. I'm with you. I'm with you. All right, Broncos country. Hang in there. Get some rest, flushes down the toilet like the players are going to do. And we're on to Jacksonville. For Nick Burgers and Sarah Bedinger, I'm going to hear.
Starting point is 01:04:18 I'm going to you guys so, so, so, so much for tuning in. Hit that like button, subscribe button on your way out the door. Talk to you guys tomorrow. Peace out, y'all.
