We'll focus on Jonah Coleman and tell you while he'll have five plus touchdowns as a rookie this upcoming season. And why that is a little bit of a bold take. Plus, Devers defense, they struggled forcing takeaways last year. We're going to tell you why they're going to be a top five unit in takeaways in 2026, but more importantly, you're going to kick things off by focusing.

Starting point is 00:01:05 on Bo Nix. He is the tide that moves, I would say everything here for this Denver Broncos football team. Franchise quarterback already established, but you know what, Sarah, I think a bold prediction, which I don't even feel like is going to be bold. I think Bo will be an MVP candidate here in 26. I think so too. I think a lot of people underestimate what he's capable of. And there's a lot of discourse about Bo Nicks because people had their preconceived notions about him coming out of Oregon and assumed that he would be a certain player in the NFL. And of course, we know what's happened since he got to the NFL, right? Is whenever anything good happens for Bo Nix, it can be explained away by the circumstances around him being great. And then when things go poorly for Bo Nix, it can be

Starting point is 00:01:49 explained by, oh, yep, see, we told you so. This is what we said he was going to be when he got to the NFL. But the reality is, is that he's one of only three quarterbacks in history with 3,500 passing yards and 25 or more touchdowns in his first two NFL seasons, tied Russell Wilson's record in the NFL history for 24 wins over the course of his first two years in the NFL, brought the Broncos back to the playoffs for the first time since Super Bowl 50, brought them back to the AFC championship game for the first time since Peyton Manning was the quarterback of this team. And Cody, I feel like ultimately there's this dissonance in the football media and fandom world where there's a lot of people who realize

Starting point is 00:02:32 what Bo Nix is great at, which is making clutch plays in big moments and being a valuable player to his team versus a guy who impresses in the analytics department in the every down department. I think you and I would acknowledge Bo has a long ways to go in his development and becoming a consistent player at the NFL level. But if there was a equivalent of baseball, ball's war stat for NFL players. Bo Nix would be probably near the top of the NFL, certainly at the quarterback position when it comes to wins above replacement. And we saw just how valuable he is to his team in the AFC championship game,

Starting point is 00:03:11 where certainly, I mean, if he was on the field, even with maybe a fractured ankle, the Broncos probably have a better chance of winning that game. Well, even Sean Peyton in that Seth Wicker, Champese that we saw on ESPN, just a little bit over three weeks ago, even said, man, I wish we had Bo. we would have won if Bo was there. That was the overall vibe. Like, you could just tell how much, like, Sean was looking at, like, how close he was to achieving, getting to the Super Bowl,

Starting point is 00:03:34 the belief that he had that his team could win the Super Bowl. And in fact, it's like, after the news came out that Bo was gone, like, it sucked the wind out of Sean. Like, and he's like, steady. Like, not, and of course, you want to have confidence in your guy, but no, there's a reason that Bo is Boe is Boat. You know, and Bo is a starting quarterback. Jared is not for an NFL team right now.

Starting point is 00:03:54 But I think we've seen the values. value here of Bo Nix. And look, obviously he came in at number 59 on the NFL's top 100 players as voted on by NFL players when the NFL sent people to various teams in the month of November. Denver was on their 11-game win streak. And, you know, you had a lot of people that had a lot of great things to say about Bo Nix, including Max Crosby, AFC West Division rival there. But just how his peers view him weighs more than any of the nerds that pay for the blue check mark on Twitter have to say in today's world. Like that's the thing with. That's the thing with social media now is that it has amplified a lot of the wrong voices. It is given, you know,

Starting point is 00:04:31 a lot of people this, this sense of authority that they really have no establishment of, you know, for something reputable. So to me, that's frustrating about social media. It's why I try to stay off social media as much as I can these days. But I think what we've seen from Bo Nix, how his teammates look at him in these key moments. Like, I'll tell you this, I had a conversation with J.L. Skinner last year. This was probably like when Denver was winning their, they won five in a row. I was talking to J.L. And he says, man, we know as long as we got number 10, we're good. That's what he told me.

Starting point is 00:05:01 And I just like, you know what, how his peers, how his teammates feel about him. And the fact that Bo is just continuing to grow. I think the pieces around Bo are going to be even better this year. I think that'll put him in the MVP conversation here in 2026. And that's actually going to play into a lot of like, how is that possible? How is Bo going to do that? The Broncos, they have such a tough schedule. Sarah, my world prediction here for 2026 is that.

Starting point is 00:05:25 to the Broncos first seven games of the season, they will be five and two. They will start off the toughest stretch of their schedule, five and two, which folks, if I have to remind you what those games are, you're starting off Monday night football against the Kansas City Chiefs in week one. Week two, you got the Jacksonville Jaguars who are no slosh. They're going to be a tough test. Oh, and then week three Sunday night football matchup against Aaron Donald,

Starting point is 00:05:48 Matthew Stafford, Pooking the Cua, Devante Adams. That's going to be a tough one. On the road at San Francisco at the Chargers and back-to-back road games. Oh, and then a Thursday night football short week turnaround after playing your AFC, U.S. Division rival, now you've got to play the Seattle Seahawks, the defending Super Bowl champions, and then the Arizona Cardinals. So through the first seven weeks, I've got them sitting there probably at five and two. I wanted to start off with that number versus going through and say, what's the first half of the schedule looking like? I mean, I could have done that, but I think those

Starting point is 00:06:17 first six games are the toughest part of this schedule. Five and two, man, that would be incredible. Yeah, it would be. And I think the first. Broncos can do it, Cody. I think that they're proven that they're one of the best overall teams in in the NFL. And so they can go toe to toe with the best teams in the NFL. That doesn't always mean that the scales are going to tip in your favor when we know that so many NFL games come down to one score or less. We saw that with the Broncos last year. They were very good, obviously, in one score games. And they were very good against really good teams, which is a huge shift from where they were at the year prior when it felt like, hey, they kind of beat up on the lesser opponent.

Starting point is 00:06:55 and they really faltered when they had opportunities against the better teams. That shifted dramatically last season, including in the playoffs against Buffalo, where the Broncos came through in overtime. So we've seen this team improve situationally, which gives me hope that, hey, if you can improve offensively,

Starting point is 00:07:13 you raise the floor on that side of the ball, it gives you a really great chance against that gauntlet of teams, which we know this as well. Every NFL team's schedule is going to be tough. Not every team is facing the most difficult stretch of the first seven weeks of the season. However, I will say those NFC West teams also play each other, right? And they also play other AFC West teams. And they have to go up against, you know, some of the best teams in the NFL as well.

Starting point is 00:07:42 So when they're looking at Denver on their schedule, they're probably saying the same thing that we are. And like, hey, this is going to be a really tough game. The Broncos coming in or we're going to Denver and week three, you know, for the Sam's case. So I think the Broncos have shown that they have the mental fortitude to be able to really withstand and weather that storm and come away from that looking like one of the best teams in the league. Well, and I like the fact now, like the perception of Denver, too, is people don't look at Denver anymore. Like, yeah, we're going to beat them. It's more like, ah, you know, it's going to be a tough one. Like how far we have come, I'd say, in the last, what, four or five years here with this Broncos football team here. But those are two of our key predictions here for the Broncos to start season, Bo Nicks being in the,

Starting point is 00:08:24 MVP conversation and also the Broncos going five and two in their first seven games of the schedule here. Starting point is 00:11:11 One way the Denver Broncos top three defense, maybe top two, maybe top one, could get better in 2026, take the ball away more. We've got some bold predictions for this defense on today's episode, locked on Broncos, as well as a little bit of a Jonah special here on today's show. We're going to get into that and much more of a Broncos country. Thanks so much for making us your first listen of the day every single day. Cody and I appreciate every single one of you so, so much for tuning in, rocking with us throughout the offseason.

Starting point is 00:11:39 Training camp is nearly here, which means optimism is at its highest, and bold predictions are at their boldest. And certainly, Cody, we feel like the Broncos defense, although great last season in many, many aspects, could be much better this coming season because of one category, really. I mean, where they sort of struggled badly last year. If you really look at the numbers and break it down,

Starting point is 00:12:03 the takeaway department was not very good for the Broncos. Obviously, they didn't force a lot of fumbles, even though getting to the quarterback 68 times, not a lot of strip sacks, not a lot of interceptions. They were opportunistic, though, in the playoffs. And I feel like that's something they can build on here as we make our bold prediction for more takeaways in 2020. Yeah, and a lot of the conversations, too, that we've had so far this off season, a lot of fans have been getting mad at us for pointing out, like, hey, the Broncos need to force more takeaways.

Starting point is 00:12:30 They're like, well, they had 68 sacks. We're not saying that, like, that's a bad thing. But even Sean Payton, even players, Vance Joseph acknowledged, taking the football away has to be a bigger emphasis for us this year because it helps. It translates into wins in other areas, right? When we're talking about Denver being in these one score games, you can go back to so many of them where Denver didn't force a takeaway, that in Sarah. And I think you could have looked and say, hey, like, if Denver would have forced one or two takeaways, it would have probably changed the outcome of the game to where it wouldn't have been a one score game. And maybe the Broncos were a little bit more comfortable.

Starting point is 00:13:00 Maybe Broncos country didn't have to go see a cardiologist on a week-to-week basis here. But bold prediction here because we said it as well. It was a weakness last year. It's going to be a strength for them this year. I think the Broncos defense, there will be a top five unit in takeaways here in 2026, which is absolutely needed. We're talking about more strips acts. I think the number one thing that they need more of outside of just strip sacks has to be interceptions. Interceptions were almost kind of like the, I don't know, it's like the antonym of a magnet, right?

Starting point is 00:13:30 Like the magnet brings everything together. It was almost like when you flip one side to the negative side, one to the positive, and all of a sudden, now they won't stick to you. That was what the Broncos defense was last year. And it was almost like it all happened inside of Talanoa, Hufanga's gloves last season. Obviously, Hoff had said that he, you know, he's hitting the jugs machine. and he took full accountability last year because he had what four or five dropped interceptions last season a couple of picked six opportunities and you know that hey when guys aren't going to be thrown towards Pat Sertan if you're going to get an opportunity it has to come from your

Starting point is 00:14:02 safeties has to come from another guy too in Riley Moss like Jayquan macmillan had the overall I'd say lead for interceptions he was tied with Dandre Tillman which you have a rotational pass rusher tied for the most interceptions on your team there's a problem here folks when that is the case. So, you know, your thoughts on Denver becoming a top five defense and takeaways last season in comparison to some of the other teams that we saw in 2025. Well, we saw how much it benefited other teams around the league to be able to do this, right? I mean, Seattle was one of the worst teams in the NFL in terms of giveaways offensively, which not a lot of people know about because they were one of the best teams in the NFL in terms of

Starting point is 00:14:40 creating takeaways. So it kind of just nullified what they did offensively and gave that offense room for error, right? The Broncos offense, as critical as we can be in a truthful way without being, you know, harsh or, you know, overcritical to the point of cynical or pessimistic, the offense didn't get a lot of extra opportunities last year. I mean, certainly the defense forced its share of three and outs. Certainly they, they held their own when it came to, hey, if a team does get past the 50, we're going to hold them to three. But the Broncos' defense not forcing turnovers was arguably the biggest reason why this team was in so many one score games last year compared to the year previous where they, I feel like, blew out teams a little

Starting point is 00:15:23 bit more. So I think forcing turnovers will help this Broncos team go from winning tight games and having to come back in the fourth to maybe creating a little bit more distance. And so I think there's ample ways that they can do that. One of the ways is what my bold prediction is, Cody, is Riley Moss getting five interceptions or more, which I think. think this is bold because Riley's only had two interceptions in his career, right? Is that is that accurate? He had one in his first year as a starter, one last year. I think that's right.

Starting point is 00:15:53 One against, yeah, one against Trey Tucker. It was when the Broncos donned the throwbacks. I think for the first time, I think it was in that comeback where PS2 had the pick six. Riley had the pick against Trey Tucker. And then last year, I think it was against Jordan Love and the Packers. Yes, yes, absolutely. So that's the only ones that he has. And that's on 220 plus targets into his coverage.

Starting point is 00:16:17 He led the NFL tied for the NFL lead with 19 passes defensed. So assuming Riley is the starter opposite Pat Sertan, and we have no reason to believe he won't be at this point, I think, you know, with that high volume of targets again, we're going to see him rise to the occasion. We're going to see him in a contract year, set a career high in interceptions. And the narrative is going to shift from is Riley's starting job in danger to how can the Broncos afford to keep him around?

Starting point is 00:16:44 I think that's going to be sort of the fallout of his production this season is fans having that discussion of like, man, we're going to have to re-sign Riley Moss now. You can't let him go after he's creating this many takeaways. So I think in terms of contributing to that, it's going to be not only Hufanga catching the passes that hit his hands, but Riley as well, taking advantage of all those opportunities that come his way. I do remember Riley also.

Starting point is 00:17:10 I think it was early on the season against the Chargers. He tipped the pass that Brandon Jones intercepted of Justin Herbert. So that was nice. Like, you know, here's the thing too. Like even with Riley, even if Riley's not the one getting interceptions, but if he can tip a pass up and it leads to an interception, you look at that as almost kind of like a shared stat. Like, hey, like this was made possible because of Riley Moss.

Starting point is 00:17:31 You want to see that. And when you have the volume of targets that Riley ultimately has seen and that we know going into this upcoming season, we'll see here once again, you just have to know, hey, teams are going to come at you. you. And I would say the one thing that benefits Riley in this situation, Sarah, is the fact that he knows he's going to get these targets. He doesn't shy away from that challenge, right? There's things in his game that he can clean up, obviously, but I get so tired of trying to dispel the Nairus. People are like, Riley's too slow. Riley's not too slow. Riley's one of the fastest guys on the team. Come in mind when he was going out and he's testing for the combine, he actually had a hernia injury that, what was his 40? Was it like 4.4 or something like that? Yeah. So he retested his 40 after he had that core muscle surgery. He ran a 4-3-9. So like I don't ever want to hear that Riley's slow. Like Riley is not slow. People are like, well, you know, he's always trailing. You don't really, do people not realize that in this Broncos scheme, there are times where they'll be in their too high safety. Look, Riley's technique, what he is responsible for and based on the call is to play underneath, right? You want to play underneath trail. Usually it's an indicator of zone. The Broncos will play.

Starting point is 00:18:38 a lot of cover two. They'll play variations of cover four, cover six, where Riley will be playing underneath as the flat defender. Now, if a guy goes vertical, he has to play underneath and then he's got help over the top of people are like, oh, he's always out of position. I would say the number one thing that Riley has to do, just get his head around. Like there's times he's getting in phase, but then he's not getting his head around. Like, if you get in phase and get your head around, the refs aren't going to throw a flag because you have equal right to the football. Now, where teams have kind of been subjective to like the the tickey tack PI calls. Riley's in phase hand on the hip, but he's staring at the receiver, right?

Starting point is 00:19:12 His head doesn't get around. And so officials, they'll always throw that flag, which I still think is unfortunate. Like as long as he's not impeding the receiver from getting the ball, it's not PI. Being in phases is an equal right that Riley has there. But with the amount of targets that he saw the 19 past defense, Sarah, let's say he's going to have that type of volume here once again. Okay, if you're going to have 19 passes defense, come. with at least four or five interceptions. So I like that bold prediction here, but I do think

Starting point is 00:19:39 if Riley has five interceptions for the Broncos this season, it might price him out of Denver for being the option that Broncos will have significant competition on the open market for him. So very, very interesting here. Now, we're going to talk about two Jonas, one on offense, one on defense here, as we continue our bold prediction series here ahead of the 2026 NFL season. I feel like we've got to start off with the rookie running back. Jonah Coleman, a lot of hype, a lot of buzz surrounding him coming into this upcoming season. Of course, training camp is where we have to see the paths translate. We've seen the flash, we've seen the explosiveness, we've heard about the past protection,

Starting point is 00:22:04 but it's going to have to translate here once we get to camp. But in 2026, operating under the hypothetical that all of that does take place and that he is kind of this RB3 or that third back that is used in key third down situations, two minute drills. A bold prediction of five plus touchdowns, in my opinion for Jonah, and this is factoring, rushing, receiving. It's not crazy, but for five, if he's perceived to be potentially that, RB3, I don't think that's too crazy. I think that's a fine, bold prediction to make.

Starting point is 00:22:34 Is it too little? Is it too less? You tell me. I don't think it's too low, Cody. I mean, a year ago at this time, we would have, if we would have made the same prediction for RJ Harvey saying, hey, bold prediction, RJ Harvey, RJ Harvey has five or more touchdowns as a rookie this season. I think people would have said, yeah, that's a pretty bold prediction for a rookie who's

Starting point is 00:22:54 playing behind, you know, J.K. Dobbins. and then he goes out and has 12 total touchdown. So I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to think that the guy who was number one in this year's draft class with 35% of his runs going for a first down or a touchdown, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to think that he could get the job done for the Denver Broncos, especially if he takes over that Tyler Badee role in the two-minute drill.

Starting point is 00:23:19 Now, does that mean that he's going to get every target during the two-minute drill? No, does it mean that he's going to get every red zone touch during the two-minute drill. Not necessarily. But I think that, you know, if the Broncos have as many end-of-half situations as they created for themselves last year

Starting point is 00:23:36 where they can steal points before the half, if they're running a hurry-up offense and Jonah Coleman is the guy that's on the field and they're getting down into that tight red zone, they might hand the ball off to him a number of times throughout the course of the season and give him those opportunities alongside R.J. Harvey. We don't know what his role is going to look like

Starting point is 00:23:56 in terms of taking over some of those two-minute situations or those got-a-have-it situations. But I think Jonah Coleman absolutely could go for five-plus touchdowns total. I mean, if you think about it, Cody, like a couple rushing, couple receiving, even if he has two each. I mean, he's already getting close to that number. So I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility by any stretch. Okay, that's good then. I mean, I feel like that's like a safe, bold prediction here, right? Some of them are like we've gone through some really bold ones, right?

Starting point is 00:24:24 Bo Nix MVP, I think there's a realistic possibility of that. The Broncos going five and two, that might actually be the toughest. I think just when you look at the schedule, the perception of it, Denver's defense emerging as a top five unit and takeaways, not that hard to imagine knowing the personnel that they have there. But this one might be the easiest one here in terms of Jonah Coleman getting five plus touchdowns. Maybe he'll have a throwing a passing touchdown as well. Maybe he'll throw one. Maybe he'll throw one to RJ Harvey, right? And they would have a two-back set and they just, you know, they do some sort of weird play.

Starting point is 00:24:56 And then Jonah rolls out to his right and then he throws it all the way across the other side to RJ. Hopefully that's not the case. Anytime you get trickery like that, it's great if it works. It's a heart attack if it doesn't. Like, remember when RJ threw that past the Bow next last year against the cheese and it was almost picked? It was like, wait a minute. All right, let's never do that again. But they're going to find a way to bring that back out at some point here.

Starting point is 00:25:18 Maybe Jonah's the benefactor. Maybe he's the one who's throwing it to a bow. going forward here. We'll see. Let's go to another Jonah because I think this one actually is, this one in my opinion, would classify as a bold prediction here. You have it as Jonah Ellis will have 10 plus sacks here in 2026. And I think you and I have both operated on the assumption here. We're going into training camp. We're going into this season. Just in mind thinking, you know what, it's going to be Nick Benito and it's going to be Jonah Ellis as your two starters. A full-time workload as a starter for Jonah. I could see this happening. But this one,

Starting point is 00:25:53 does definitely seem like a bold prediction just with the uncertainty and not knowing what this rotation is going to look like just yet. That is the one aspect that kind of complicates what, you know, this bold prediction ultimately for Jonah Ellis is not knowing exactly what the future holds for Jonathan Cooper. But even so, I know, I mean, with the position switch early in the off season and the Broncos deciding to kind of nix that idea, you know, there's a concerted effort from this coaching staff to want to get Jonah Ellis on the field more and understandably so. Anytime he's out there, it feels like he's around the football.

Starting point is 00:26:26 It feels like he's penetrating the offensive line, getting into the backfield, making plays. It feels like he's impactful on special teams as well. So anytime we see to out there at full strength, he is a lot to handle for offensive linemen. And with all the attention that Nick Benito and Zach Allen receive, somebody's going to benefit from that. And we've seen different guys in the past, whether it's John Franklin Myers, whether it's Jonathan Cooper or whoever it may be. So Jonah Ellis getting opportunities to go one on one against what typically, if he's playing up against the right tackle, that's typically the team's lesser of the two tackles.

Starting point is 00:27:05 Not always, not in every case, but it's typically the lesser of the two. I mean, just thinking on Monday night football to open up the season, the Kansas City Chiefs right tackle Jalen Moore is a major question mark. Maybe their biggest one this entire offseason. So if you're Jonah Ellis, you get an opportunity week one, on under, the lights to go out there and have a huge game. And he not only seems like a guy who's capable of stacking together weeks where he's, hey, there was a time.

Starting point is 00:27:32 I mean, Cody, wasn't it during his rookie season where he had three, four games in a row with a sack or something like that? I can't remember what it was, but he's been productive. I mean, he was all rookie in 2024 coming off the edge in a rotational role. He's been that guy before. I think with a more consistent workload, he can be a double-digit sack performer. Well, I also think his past rush repertoire, like his moves have improved a lot too. Like once again, like the one thing that got me so excited about Jonah this offseason,

Starting point is 00:28:01 and granted it was without pads, folks. I always have to preface it by saying that. But just the execution of it, in my opinion, Jeff's kiss. It was beautiful. He set up on he had an upfield rush where it was almost kind of like a straight vertical stab upfield. And then, you know, past rushers, they kind of have like their hands up. They almost kind of do like, am I going to try? cop the arms or whatnot. He turned it into a clean spin move where he got inside of the tackle

Starting point is 00:28:27 and had the clearest path to the quarterback that if this were in pads, if this weren't a real game, it would have been a sports center top 10 moment in terms of that. Like from the execution to the potential finish, if that would have all accumulated, it would have been a sports center top 10 moment there. I like what I see Jonah. Jonah is very strong. But I think we're going to see a little bit more of that athleticism on par of this upcoming season. And if he's got that full workload. I'm excited to see what he can do with that. Now, the biggest thing with Jonah, staying healthy. And I think the Broncos, they're ideal in terms of the rotation behind, you know, potentially he and Nick Benito. I mean, you've got those guys there. Dandre Tillman,

Starting point is 00:29:04 you're very excited about already. And then Q Robinson, who we're excited to see a lot more of here. The Broncos pass rush should be better this upcoming season, which is crazy to think, like how can they keep getting better? It's almost like the Breaking Badmeet. He can't keep getting away with this. Vance Joseph's in there cooking up every kind of stunt and blitz you can think of and now it's going to hopefully either than breaking the sack record. But hopefully more takeaways come along with that from Denver's pastures. And maybe, maybe Jonah could force four or five potential fumbles this upcoming season. That would be fun here.
