Locked On Broncos - Daily Podcast On The Denver Broncos - Denver Broncos REUNION With Von Miller Is UNLIKELY

Episode Date: May 18, 2026

The Denver Broncos and a potential reunion with former Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller appears unlikely despite his desire to return. Cody Roark and Sayre Bedinger debate the logistics of what signing Vo...n Miller would mean for the roster, the depth at outside linebacker, and why Denver's also unlikely to reunite veteran Cameron Jordan with Sean Payton.   Cody Roark is a credentialed beat reporter for Mile High Sports and covers the Broncos daily in person. Sayre Bedinger is the site expert for Predominantly Orange. Both bring Broncos Country the most in-depth and objective coverage of the Denver Broncos.   WANT MORE DAILY DENVER BRONCOS CONTENT? Starting point is 00:00:00 The Denver Broncos roster is strong enough right now that it's hard to justify reuniting with Von Miller or bringing Cameron Jordan back to the mix for Sean Payton. You are locked on Broncos. Your daily Denver Broncos podcast. Part of the Locked On podcast network, your team every day. What's happening in Brockow's country? Cody Roach joined as always by Sarah Bedger. Today's episode of the show is brought to you by our friends over there at Fandu.
Starting point is 00:00:31 Right now, new customers can bet just $5 to get $150 in bonus benefits. head to Fanduil.com to get started. And on today's bonus episode of the show, this is a very popular topic right now amongst Broncos country and even a former Super Bowl 50 MVP himself is clamoring to come back to the Mile High City. But we'll talk about why Denver's roster right now where it's at, makes it hard to justify making a move for guys like Cameron, Jordan,
Starting point is 00:00:55 or even Von Miller. But we're going to debate whether or not a Von Miller reunion appears likely or unlikely for this team. You're on today's episode of the show. So, Vaughn Miller the last couple of weeks has been posting Broncos pictures saying soon, posting different emojis, trying to create some hype around a potential return to the Mile High City. Now, I went to Peyton Manning's night of champions event, and Vaughn said, never say never. He wants to come home. The fans were chanting in the state inside the Paramount Theater there.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Come back home. We want Vaughn. I know Broncos country does, Sarah, but I personally do not believe it's going to happen. And I feel like on my end, it's very unlikely just knowing what this roster is like right now, where things are at. It would be nice for nostalgia purposes. But I don't think it's going to happen no matter how much public clamoring Vaughn does. How do you feel about what Vaughn has been doing? And do you think it could be likely or unlikely?
Starting point is 00:01:48 Don't kill my dreams, Cody. Don't be out here pouring cold water on this idea. I need Von Miller back on the Denver Broncos. Look, I, okay, yes, I'm telling myself exactly what you're saying because I cannot get. my hopes too high for this because I want it to happen. Like, yes, there's the emotional attachment, Von Miller, Super Bowl 50 MVP. He was part of the very first draft class that I ever covered doing like what I do now as far as like getting paid to write about football and stuff. Like he was part of the very first draft class that I ever covered. Von Miller is like he's my people, man. He's like,
Starting point is 00:02:24 I'm pretty sure we're born in 1989 together. I love Von Miller. I love Von Miller. I can't not love von Miller. He's my guy. So like I want him to come back so badly. And I know that there's like the emotional attachment to that that can kind of make it seem like, okay, well, does it really make sense? Here's how I would make it make sense, right? And I know there's some video out there of Jonah Ellis, Cody, that he's kind of doing a lot more pass rush drills than he is doing off ball linebacker drills.
Starting point is 00:02:54 But operating under the assumption that Jonah is going to be playing more inside linebacker going forward. To me, it kind of opens up a fifth spot on your edge group, you know, where Drew Sanders could slide in or somebody, maybe an undrafted guy from last year's group, but Vaughn could slide in there. He played 37% of the snaps, I believe last year in Washington, had nine sacks, racking up the pressures, rocking up the QB hits like he does. And I think he's even said in the past that he doesn't feel like he needs to go into a situation in Denver specifically where, hey, I'm operating under the assumption that I'm going to start. And I know, like, Nick Benito had said that the players would love to have Vaughn.
Starting point is 00:03:36 He's obviously, here's my biggest, this is what my pitch, okay, my elevator pitch for Von Miller. Not only can he help you as a veteran pass rusher, but the loss of BT Jordan, this offseason, Cody, was pretty substantial from the Broncos. Like, you talked about him as kind of that silent or quiet, you know, superstar in the pass rush development of these players. B.T. Jordan is now with the Dallas Cowboys. I mean, couldn't Von Miller teach a thing or two to all these pass rushers in Denver about, hey, this is, this is maybe why you guys had 68 sacks last year and forced two strip sacks. And one of them was against Trey Lance because you're not doing this right.
Starting point is 00:04:18 Or here's how you can get more strip sacks. I would love to see Vaughn back in Denver for football reasons, not just vibes, although the vibes would be incredibly high. Yeah, and look, I think that's a good pitch that you make. My counter to that just in terms of like maybe how the Broncos are thinking roster-wise. Because don't get me wrong, I would love to see Von Miller return for another year and his career in the mile high city, which if he did, it would likely be his last year that he plays in the NFL, and a little better way to do it with Denver.
Starting point is 00:04:46 But you mentioned him maybe being that fifth guy and that rotation at outside linebacker. Who's going to be inactive out of that group of five? You got Benito, you got Cooper who are healthy. You got Dondre Tillman who shined in his role and you want to see more Q Robinson. It wouldn't make sense because one of those guys would have to be essentially inactive. Bond's not going to play special teams, not at this rate of his career. So that's where it's like logistically you look at it. It's like, man, it would be so nice.
Starting point is 00:05:13 Could you imagine that room there with Vaughn being their fifth option? But it's like he's not going to play. Like if that were the case, like unless the Broncos were to trade one of their guys or move on, that's the only way. I feel like a Vaughn reunion could happen here in Denver. And he was also posting images of him and like the number of 24 jersey. Vaughn, keep 58. If you're going to be in Denver, you're going to keep 58.
Starting point is 00:05:34 24 is Chan Bailey's number. They haven't touched it ever since the Pac-Man Jones debacle. Nobody's touched 58. The Broncos have viewed that as like, hey, that's like Vons. We're not going to touch that. There's a lot of respect there. So in my opinion, I don't see it happening as much as Broncos country would like it to happen. And even selfishly, I think why you and I would like it.
Starting point is 00:05:53 to happen for this team as well. Nick Benito. If they're up to Nick, Von would be a Bronco already. That's his guy. That's what that's his idol. And he said that obviously when he caught up with him this past week at a shopping spree for kids who are graduating here in the Denver area. But when you look at all this as well, the Broncos have made some moves in terms of the past rush department. And they mainly came in the NFL draft after losing John Franklin Myers in NFL free agency. This kind of also puts cold water on Cameron Jordan. But the Broncos approach here might be in the right spot with who they have. Today's episode, the show is brought to you by friends over there at Fandu.

The state of the Denver Broncos roster making it hard to justify Von Miller or Cameron
Starting point is 00:08:08 Jordan, even at this point of the off season, it's good news. Broncos country, as tough of a pill as that may be to swallow, it's great for the Broncos to be in the position where they are roster-wise. We're going to talk about that on today's show. But Broncos country, we appreciate you. Every single one of you, every day is out there for making us your first listen of the day, every single day.
Starting point is 00:08:27 And if you want an ad-free version of this show, check out the Everydayer Club at Lockedonbroncos. Dot supercast.com. The Broncos roster is good. It might be the best in the NFL, Cody. I mean, people are talking. The streets are talking. Hey, what the heck is going on with off-season power rankings
Starting point is 00:08:44 from this outlet and the other putting the Broncos at number one? I mean, who's talking about the Broncos having a top five roster? We want people to shut up and stop talking about us. But you can't because this is one of the best and most balanced rosters in the NFL. I know a lot of folks think that you and I are homers. And you know what? Just that's fine. I think that's okay.
Starting point is 00:09:05 But at the same time, we can call a spade a spade when the Broncos are bad. We call it out when they drop, you know, they get 70 points scored against them in a game. We'll call stuff out. But when the Broncos are good, like there's nothing wrong. was saying the Broncos are good and the roster is what makes it tough to justify even these superstar players that man I know John Oweigh would assign these guys Mike Shanahan would assign these guys but it might even be tough for those guys to do if they were still in charge of the Broncos yeah and right now I think everyone's looking at
Starting point is 00:09:37 the Broncos roster and Seneca where's the whole I still think the biggest thing that keeps getting brought up is well how are the Broncos going to replace JFM and I think it's a great question you know we put out a mailbag for Broncos country to send in their thoughts. And NC's truest player on YouTube, love that name, by the way, sent in a question saying, do you think that we have an adequate replacement
Starting point is 00:09:57 on the roster for JFM's production, or do you think we will have to address that free agency? I mean, the Broncos have had opportunities to address that in the first stage of free agency. At this stage, Sarah, I think it's harder, unless you were to go out there and add a Cameron, Jordan, or Yvonne Miller, as you and I had talked about here. But basically, the Broncos have strictly told us,
Starting point is 00:10:17 that they really do believe in Savian Jones as he enters his second year in the NFL and he's going to get more playing time this year than he had last year. And he could end up being a huge surprise for a lot of people. You draft Tyler Oneeddon with your first pick in this year's NFL draft in round number three. And so all of this to say,
Starting point is 00:10:34 the Broncos have already made that move. Now, is it going to replace the seven and a half sacks? Is one of these guys going to do that? That's hard to know right now. I think who can debate it. Maybe between the two of them, what would you say would be successful? If you're looking at Savion Jones, Tyler own yet,
Starting point is 00:10:49 I'm okay, JFM had what, seven and a half sacks last season. Could you get three and a half from each of these guys potentially? I think you could, but that's not one player. That's supplementing that production with two. Where I also think that maybe the Broncos, maybe you don't supplement that loss of seven to half sacks with that position. Maybe another position or another player adds on more to their plate. I mean, this could be a balanced breakfast for somebody else.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Absolutely. I mean, last year we saw Jonathan, I think his numbers took a slight bit of a dip. There off the edge, there were stretches where, man, you felt like Nick Benito had maybe more meat left on the bone. And he still had, what, 14 sacks or whatever it was last year. So there's a lot to go around. Like the Broncos are going to get to the quarterback.
Starting point is 00:11:34 And it's nice to have those defensive linemen who can win those one-on-one opportunities and go clean up whatever. Hey, if Nick Benito and Jonathan Cooper cause a quarterback to have to step up in the pocket prematurely, and you've got somebody like Savianne Jones or now Tyler Owned yet him in the mix that can knock that guy down and make him pay for stepping up in the pocket. That's exactly what you want. It's not just, well, can you be the first one to the quarterback? It's can you help your other guys, your teammates? Can you help your guys, you know, get the assist?
Starting point is 00:12:05 And so that's what I would be excited for is to see which one of those guys is doing that on a more consistent level right away. And I think that competition is going to bring out a lot in those guys because I don't know, that the Broncos want to replace, let's call it 50%, right? John Franklin Myers playing roughly 50% of the snaps for the defense last year. Do they want to just go out and say, hey, we're going to give Savion Jones 25% and we're going to give Tyler O'Neum 25% and rotate those guys in that way? Like, logistically, I don't know exactly how that would work during the course of a game because you want to build some momentum as well.
Starting point is 00:12:41 Yeah, no, and that's tough. Like, that is the challenge in terms of the rotation. I just know that Denver likes to keep that unit as fresh as possible. That's why Malcolm Roach is on the field and comes off. DJ Jones comes back on, right? They swap these guys. There's obviously some archetypes defensively that they like on the interior. But a defensive end, it's very much,
Starting point is 00:13:01 hey, Zach Allen's our main guy here, but we want to keep Zach fresh. So when Zach's out the field, whoever's in needs to have that same level of motor. And also the scheme, it attacks certain teams and offenses specifically, but you need to have the guys that can work in tandem to execute that. And I think that's where the experience comes in of Malcolm Roach and other guys into this mix.
Starting point is 00:13:21 But that's where I think maybe can we see more nickel and safety blitzes where guys are getting home off the edge at the defensive back position. There were times last year when Pat Sertan was doing cornerback blitzes on the boundary side of the field there. So I just think it just depends on who they're going against, what type of offense they're going against. You mentioned we talked about some games early on in our episode earlier today about like Matthew Stafford and the Rams.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Well, the challenge with that team is that Matthew Stafford likes to get the ball of his hands so dang quick. How do you sack a quarterback like that? Well, you disguise one way. You send pressure from the other side and then he doesn't see it. He gets hit. That's what plays into the Broncos strength here. And I think that they're going to do that collectively with a group of guys.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Yeah, I think they are too. And you want to see those young guys stepping up. That's not to say that you don't want somebody like Vaughn or Cameron, Jordan. Like, obviously, the more the merrier. That's what I say. If you say, hey, you can never have too many good pass rushers, then prove it. Go out and grab one of these guys and show us that you believe that you can't have too many good ones. But all kidding aside, you know, you do want to see the young guys stepping up so that you don't want to have to sign somebody like Vaughn or Cam Jordan as a reactive measure because you're not doing what you want.
Starting point is 00:14:35 That's not what you want. So that's where I would say, hey, go be proactive. You know, if you're going to sign somebody, because remember Sean Payton earlier, this off-season Cody said something about, call it, let, you know, the end of June when the roster fully takes shape because he was addressing some of the frustration over slow-free agency, only making one move before the draft. And he's like, just wait till the end of June, basically.
Starting point is 00:14:57 I don't know that the Broncos are done doing stuff in terms of answering the question about the roster and the construction right now and who could still be added yet. We just hope that it has nothing to do with any sort of injuries or, you know, it's all supplementary. That's what we want. We want supplemental additions to this team, add depth, add guys who can make what's already great, even more exciting, and to have the embarrassment of riches.
Starting point is 00:15:22 That's what you want, especially this time of year. So that's what I'm all in favor of. I don't think the Broncos necessarily need to do anything like that. But if they want to, they can. And we know that over $6 million is going to free up on June 2nd when Dre Greenlaw's cap hit comes off the books. So we'll see what happens. But like Sean Payton said, wait until the end.
Starting point is 00:15:42 of June for things to sort of formulate. I'm very interested to see what happens. And there could even be these guys that emerge as undrafted rookie free agents that surprise a lot of people. I mean, that happens every year. Denver seems to be the one team where they're very good at discovering these undrafted gems. So we will see here. Broncos country, make sure you share your thoughts with us here on today's episode of
Starting point is 00:16:03 the show on a potential reunion with Cameron Jordan with Sean Payton or Von Miller to the Denver Broncos. Do you think it's likely?
