Starting point is 00:00:00 The Locked-on NFL Top 100 came out, and four Denver Broncos made it, but we felt like our colleagues got it wrong. Starting point is 00:00:41 And there were four different Broncos that made it. Which Broncos player that's on that list will climb the highest next season? We'll go through and talk about why Bo Nix, not even on the list, the biggest snub of all, we'll break that down and talk about our gripe with all the quarterbacks that were placed ahead of him on the voting list. But we're going to kick things off by talking about the four Broncos that were on the locked on NFL top 100. Sarah, I tell you what, when I was going through and voting on this process, because there was like a, there was like 300 different players that we had to go through and we had to numerically rank them.

Starting point is 00:01:15 I took my sweet time with this and I just focused on the top 100. I looked at all 300 players and I was like, okay, who are the top 100 of this group? And how I voted, and I'm curious for your thoughts when you voted as well, how I voted was assembling this list based on what those players around the NFL did in 2025. past season. Kind of what the players that are currently, like when the NFL top around comes out this year, it's all based on what they saw from that player last year. It seems like there were some people who voted that way. It seemed like there were other people who voted on the collective body of work of that player's career. I don't like that. How did you vote? Well, I think it's a combination

Starting point is 00:01:55 of everything, right? It's a combination of the entire body of work and respecting what a player's done. but there has to be a certain bit of recency bias when you're ranking the top 100 players currently, right? So there has to be some sort of, hey, this is what you've done for me lately. And then I think you can also sprinkle in a little bit of this is what I think this player is going to be. That doesn't mean that you put a rookie on the top 100, but it means that you could say, hey, I see Zach Allen has led the NFL and quarterback hits, right, last year. I mean, certainly he could be considered the number one defensive. tackle in the NFL, but that is certainly not the case.

Starting point is 00:02:35 Another little spoiler that we'll talk about here in a little bit. But Cody, I think that you have to rank as unbiased as you possibly can while also advocating for your guys because you know others will not do that unless you're a true national football league ball knower and you actually pay attention to who's good and you actually respect who's good and you don't just do things based off name recognition. So I'm not calling anybody out because I don't know how anybody. else voted or things like that. I don't know how people assemble their lists,

Starting point is 00:03:05 but when I put together rankings and stuff for NFL spin zone, I certainly take all things into consideration. And Zach Allen, number 84, is the first Broncos player here on the NFL Top 100 from our friends at Locked On. And Cody, I think number 84 is, boy, like, it's almost like,

Starting point is 00:03:25 you know, people are like, well, you should just be happy to be here. Or it's a privilege to be on the list. It's like, no, no, no, no. Zach Allen led the NFL and quarterback. More quarterback hits than Miles Garrett, who set the NFL sack record in a single season. So I don't understand, like, where, I don't understand why.

Starting point is 00:03:45 Like, can, I need, I need your help to understand, like, why people don't respect Zach Allen, a first team all pro. I love our colleagues here at the lockdown network, but once again, I even said it in our team's chat that we had. I said, Zach Allen deserved better from the voters. And Allie, who is in charge of our content programming, you know, for national stuff. She said, I want to hear about that in the show. So yes, my colleagues, you guys got it wrong.

Starting point is 00:04:12 Zach Allen coming in at number 84 after leading the NFL in quarterback hits. And I think he's the only player to have, I think, two seasons in a row, 40 plus QB hits since JJ Watt, which pretty dang good company to be in. What drives me mad about this is that there is Cam Hayward, who comes in at number 42 of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cam Hayward, while he is a good player, very good player, he did not have a season anywhere close to what Zach Allen had last year. So for him to be up almost essentially 40 plus spots ahead of Zach Allen, that's where I have the issue. Like for me, I always believe that these lists, and as we vote on these guys, I think it should all be predicated on, okay what did this player do last season you know because really that's the latest body of work that we have to go off of and it's going to make broncos country a little frustrated to hear some of the other things based on like guys who are ahead of certain broncos players let's go to nick benito who comes in at number 53 sir i feel like 53 is a pretty fair spot considering i think this is benito's first time on the locked on NFL top 100 players list 53 isn't bad but you know where i have the issue with this

Starting point is 00:05:24 is who is at number 41. Nick Bosa. Nick Bosa played three freaking games last year, Sarah. Like, in my opinion, based on my logic of, hey, this is based on who played last year. Nick Bosa shouldn't even be on this list. And it's simple. When healthy, yes, Nick Bosa is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, but he does not deserve to be on this list, as are a few other guys.

Starting point is 00:05:48 And as, you know, another thing, too, within striking distance, Garrett Boll is coming in at number 44. Sarah, I don't have a problem. I think that's actually a pretty good spot for Garrett to be, but here's where I have the issue with that. Garibald's allowed zero sacks last season, played in all 17 games, was the first team all pro. He had better production than Jordan Milata, who comes in at number 37 on this list, Trent Williams, who comes in at number 23, Tristan Worf's who came in at number 16, Sarah, and he only played in 12 games last season. The only guy I'd say you might have a better argument for being ahead of Garrett Bulls is the guy, who came in at number 10, and that's Pene Soule.

Starting point is 00:06:25 Even though Pene allowed two sacks, Pene was part of one of the best offensive lines in football in terms of run game production with what we saw with Jemir Gibbs, who just got paid. And he also got used versatility-wise, where he caught a touchdown. I inspired Frank Crum to catch a touchdown pass in the playoffs. So Penae Soule, valid argument.

Starting point is 00:06:43 That's where my gripe is with this is that I don't think Tristan Worves should be at 16, especially considering when we played in 12 games. No, I don't think, I think, man, there's a lot. there starting at the nick bosa thing is hard for me to get over because i think the last time nick bosa was playing at the same level that we've seen from from nick benito over the last handful of years was maybe like 2022 or i can't even remember the last fully healthy season that he had with like double digit sacks i'm sure it was pretty recently but man yeah it's really a tough pill to swallow

Starting point is 00:07:16 even when you see a guy like josh hines allen at number 52 right ahead of nick benito at number 53 it's just, Cody, I don't, I don't know what Broncos players really have to do in order to gain recognition. Like they've been a top five defense two years in a row. Garrett Bulls has been playing at a truly elite level for probably like four or five years at this point. I mean, he got his extension in what, 2020? And I think ever since then, he's just been kind of on an elite level tear.

Starting point is 00:07:45 He got another extension actually, 2024 or 2023. So I, look, I don't. I know that we oftentimes feel like, okay, well, do we talk too much about the Broncos getting snubbed or like they're disrespected by the media and who really cares? And it's like, well, it kind of does matter a little bit. I mean, these guys, the perception of them is apparently that they're just kind of like throw ins to the discussion, right? And that the Broncos are kind of just borderline irrelevant when it comes to these other teams, these other players, like the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas. Cowboys, like Tyler Smith being one spot behind Garrett Bulls is crazy. I don't know. I just based on what we've seen, not that Tyler Smith isn't a good player because he is,

Starting point is 00:08:33 but then you have to ask the question, well, where's Quinn Miners? If Tyler Smith is on this list, not even on the list. So Quinn Miners isn't on the list and Tyler Smith is one spot behind Garrett Bowles, who's the first team all pro offensive tacklers or all pro offensive tackle. again, I'm not saying Tyler Smith is not good. We know that he's not Quinn Miners. He's not Quinn Miners. So I don't know. I just look, this is the type of thing where it's like,

Starting point is 00:09:01 and then Pat Sertan coming in at number four. I like that. But again, do we have a problem with Jamar Chase being the number three player in the NFL? Joe Burrow being the number eight player in the NFL. And like Joe Burrow hasn't played in a playoff game since the 2022 season. I know he's a great player. Broncos played against it, and he was awesome. But is he number eight in the NFL?

Starting point is 00:09:25 Is he above Will Anderson Jr.? Truly? Will Anderson Jr. is number nine on this list. Joe Burrow number eight. Will Anderson Jr. was arguably the defensive player of the year last year. And Joe Burrow barely played, to your point, Cody. Lamar Jackson number seven. He barely played.

Starting point is 00:09:40 Lamar had a terrible year last year. And it was bad. Yeah, he wasn't good. Grated on his curve especially. So, man, I just, I don't like a lot of these rankings lists. I think are fun to react. to in this way because you can be like, what the heck are you bring out the torch and pitch for pitchforks like this. You disrespect my player.

Starting point is 00:09:58 And I think it's fun to kind of do that. But like at some point, you got to just like sit back and roll your eyes and be like, what the heck is going on? Yeah. Well, here's the thing too. I'm sliding PS2 up to number three because every time PS2 is played, Jamar Chase, he's put the clamps on him so far in those matchups. And Jamar Chase is even going, you know, these wide receiver gatherings. and shadowed soon as like, oh, yeah, you know, this is what you do to be Pat. And Jamar's like, no, you can't do this.

Starting point is 00:10:25 You can't beat him like this. He is the boogey man. He deserves to be number three here. But there was another big snub here, Broncos country, Bow Nix left off the list entirely, even though that for back-to-back seasons, his peers have put him on their NFL top 100. Starting point is 00:12:51 Stop me if you've ever heard this before, but Bo Nix was snubbed on some kind of list that was put out. And it was our own. It was our own guys and our own gals here at the Lockdown Podcast Network. Bo Nix being left off the top 100. We're going to rant about it a little bit. We're going to vent about the Bo Nix disrespect because, you know, why not Broncos country?

Starting point is 00:13:11 We get plenty of opportunities to do that. Never a bad time to defend number 10. And so we're going to talk about that and much more coming up on today's episode of the show. But I want to say thank you to all of you that make lockdown Broncos your first listen of the day. Every single day, we appreciate all you every day. There's so much. Cody, let's talk about Bo Nix being the biggest. I mean, there's some serious debate here to be had.

Starting point is 00:13:33 I mean, Quinn Miners, we talked about was also left off the list. But Bo Nix was number 64, I think, on last year's list for the NFL top 100. And he was number 59 this year. Yeah. So his peers around the league think he can play. And I think 59 is a pretty decent spot for him to land. But on the locked on NFL top 100, he wasn't anywhere. Maybe let's say he was number 101.

Starting point is 00:14:00 We'll give everybody the benefit of the doubt there. Bo Nix is number one. I'm going to declare it. I don't know if that's fact. I'm going to declare that he was number 101 and he just missed the list. But why do you think Bo Nix is perceived as a way that he's, is like nobody we do crossover shows all throughout the season. Nobody that I talk to thinks Bo Nix is good.

Starting point is 00:14:22 And I say that with all due respect. Yeah. They're like they feel like their defense is going to be the one to stop him. They feel like Bo Nix does this on first downs and this in the first and second quarter. And so like I had that conversation, I don't know, eight times last season. And then Bo Nix comes out and, you know, he does what he does. So I just think there's a true level of disrespect for his game based on the analytics crowd is where I think it is. But you tell me, why do you think he's so underrated?

Starting point is 00:14:54 I do think a lot of people live with the analytics. And analytics don't always tell a full story. And if you look at a lot of the numbers that Bonix actually puts up, he's on a very, very historic pace early on in his young career. I mean, for example, you take a look at the 64 total career touchdowns in two seasons, 7,700 passing yards, better than anybody else in his draft class, which I have so many gripes about this list, Sarah. But I also find it interesting. Sam Donald helped the Seattle Seahawks win a Super Bowl.

Starting point is 00:15:21 He comes in at number 99 on this list. AFC West Division rival Justin Herbert comes in at 88. Jordan Love comes in at 80, even though that Bo Nix head-to-head out-duled him. Trevor Lawrence comes in at 78. Jared Goff at 70. Jalen Hertz, who also Bo Nix out-duled on the road head-to-head against the defending Super Bowl champions,

Starting point is 00:15:39 comes in at 65. Brock Purdy, who missed a large portion last season, comes in at 66. Brock Purdy on this list, like, what are we doing? What are we doing? What are we watching? That's not the one that's making me mad. The one that makes me mad is Jaden Daniels at 56. Sarah, Jaden Daniels has like an all-time PR around him because, oh, in his rookie season,

Starting point is 00:16:03 he helped lead the commanders to the NFC championship game. Jayden Daniels is a good young quarterback. Don't get me wrong. The dude can't stay healthy. Last year was an abject disaster for the Washington commanders and all of that hype from the NFC championship game fizzled out. What did Bo Nix do in his second year? Led the Broncos with arguably less offensive talent around him

Starting point is 00:16:23 to the AFC championship game where he outduled Josh Allen, who's the number two player on this list, by the way, in primetime, outdualed him in the clutch. And everyone's saying, oh, if Bo Nix plays in an AFC championship game, the Broncos, they go to the Super Bowl. Okay. So where's the recognition here? for what Bo Nix was able to do. No disrespect to our colleagues.

Starting point is 00:16:44 I think they got a lot of this wrong as it pertains to Denver, some Broncos being left out, Quinn Miners, Bo Nicks specifically being left off of this list as we have voted this. I had both of these guys in my top 100 with Zach Allen, with Nick Benito, with Garrett Bulls. So for me, I'm looking at this, Jaden Daniels, 56. Jaden Daniels hasn't accomplished anything yet.

Starting point is 00:17:04 Yes, okay, offensive player. You don't want to know what's crazy, the rookie offensive player of the year. Bo Nix wasn't that far behind him from a number standpoint. going back to the rookie season comparatively. It's because Jaden made it to the NFC championship game, his rookie year while he's got this all-time PR. Jay and Daniels, in my opinion, good young quarterback

Starting point is 00:17:21 could not be a 56 on this list, and Bo Nick should be on this list. I'm not saying Bo should be 56, but my goodness. And that's not even it, Sarah. And I'm curious for your thoughts. Then you go to Dak Prescott at 49. Drake May has played this, you know, same two years, right? First two years.

Starting point is 00:17:39 He's at 31. and Bo Nix has better numbers than Drake May by far in terms of overall production and win quality as well. 14 wins. They tied for that last season. But Bo led the Broncos to more wins in his rookie season than Drake May did, the Patriots. So what are we doing? That's where these lists make me mad. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:17:58 And I want to say, like I think Drake May is a great player. I think Jaden Daniels is a great player when they're healthy. Right. And obviously Drake May last season had to finish second in the MVP vote. voting, I believe. So he's 31 on this list. I mean, I'm sure the Patriots, those folks are probably saying, hey, Drake May, he was snubbed. He's only 31 on this list after finishing second and MVP voting. I want to know what Bo Nix hasn't done that Drake May has, right? Because remember in Bo Nix's rookie season, what was everybody saying, oh, well, he's beating up on all these bad teams?

Starting point is 00:18:34 Wait, what did Drake May just do last year? I mean, the literal easiest schedule in the NFL. I think over the last decade plus or two decades or something like that in terms of opponent win percentage. And then he gets absolutely rolled over in the postseason carried, dragged by just a string of good luck in terms of the quarterbacks that they faced and the defense that they played. So, I mean, I don't understand why people perceive Jaden Daniels, Caleb Williams, Drake May, in such a different light than Bo Nix.

Starting point is 00:19:08 It really does, in my opinion, it comes back to pre-draft bias. It comes back to this is who I declared Bo Nix was going to be coming into the NFL. So that's who he's going to be to me. That's who I see. When I see Bo Nix, I see, oh, yep, just like I thought, low yards per completion, low yards per attempt, not taking into account the fact that the Broncos couldn't run the ball at all. So they have to throw it quickly to try and get some semblance of a quote unquote running. game going. It's like the short passing game is supposed to be this extension, but nobody's

Starting point is 00:19:43 viewing it like that. They're viewing it as that must be because Bo Nix can't push the ball deep, even though he tied for the NFL lead last season, an explosive pass attempt or explosive passing place, right? 25 plus yards down the field. And then people will say, well, you know, the reason that happened is because the Broncos threw it 600 plus times. But in the same breath, they'll say, Bo Nix couldn't even get 4,000 passing yards with all. these past attempts. And so round and round we go, Cody. The goalposts move all the time. I don't think we live in a world in which Bo Nix is not one of the top 100 players in the NFL. I think we do. I think we live in that world in which Bo Nix is one of the top 100 players

Starting point is 00:20:23 in the NFL. And his peers think so. Yeah, his peers think so. It's just a matter of whether or not people are willing to accept it. And people just aren't. That's the case. That's it right there. They're just not willing to accept it. It's crazy to me. I still think once again, on this entire list, if we're going to, I think Zach Allen was entirely disrespected with where he was put, considering the production we saw, I think it was disrespectful that Bo and Quinn Miner certainly weren't on this list, but you know what? We keep fighting the good fight and hopefully our colleagues get it right in next year's

But as we take a look at this list, which Broncos players out of the four that made it will climb the highest next year and can Bo Nix and maybe a new shiny weapon make it onto next year's locked on NFL top 100. The Lockdown NFL top 100 list has come out and four Broncos made the list based on how things have played out. Which Broncos player on this

I don't feel like he can make the largest jump because he's been a top 10, top five player, I think, in the last couple of years that we did.

Starting point is 00:22:39 I think he was actually number two last year in the voting process. So as long as PS2 is playing, he should probably stay in the top five as long as he's playing at a high level. And there's no other cornerback right now that's even on his level. So it can't be Pat that makes the highest climb next year. You can make an argument for maybe Garrett Bowles. he can go up a few spots here. Nick Benito coming in at 53.

Starting point is 00:23:01 Can he make the largest climb up? I think if he has a defensive player of the year type year, we can see him jump spots. But here's where it makes the most sense. Because of where he was placed, Zach Allen probably is going to be the player that has the chance to climb the highest because he's coming in at number 84 in this voting.

Starting point is 00:23:20 I very much think he could be anywhere between 35 to 25 to 25 on this list next season. So that would be a massively compared to all the others. Right. I think I agree because at some point, Zach Allen's going to start getting the recognition that he does deserve, right? I mean, ultimately, he's getting the all pro recognition. He's putting together the fantastic consistency.

Starting point is 00:23:44 The numbers are there. Like, everything is there for Zach Allen. It's really just a matter of whether or not the general NFL community is going to start to recognize that. And I just, I don't know what more he has to do, Cody. I mean, it's going to be maybe sacks. Maybe he has to get up to 12 plus in order to get people to really say,

Starting point is 00:24:05 wow, Zach Allen had 12 plus sacks last season. And shoot, oh, that reminds me. I didn't need to look at his past production because he led the NFL and quarterback hits the year before that. So we always talk about, isn't it funny with past rushers, the discussion is always, hey, it's not just sacks. You've got to measure it by more than just sacks. it's going to be pressures and pressure rate and quarterback hits and then, you know, a player does that and it doesn't matter.

Starting point is 00:24:29 So, but at any rate, I think I agree. Zach Allen can make the biggest jump. I'm wondering if you think there's anybody that's not on this list at all, other than maybe Bo or Quinn Miners, do you think somebody could pop? I think Telanoa Hufanga could pop onto this list. I think he could have probably been, I mean, one of the top four or five safeties in the NFL. If he pick off a few more passes, you know. If you didn't have to drop picks, man.

Starting point is 00:24:53 have the job picks. I think he could be on there. But he's one guy that I thought of. I also wonder, could Riley Moss make that jump? Like, he's already under the microscope. So I think that's part of the equation is like, if you're under the microscope, you're going to get recognized. So whatever he does this season, it's going to be loud, whether he plays well or whether

Starting point is 00:25:13 he plays poorly. Yeah. So I think Riley could be a name to watch as well. Ooh, Riley could. He definitely could. Like, if he could turn those 19 pass defense into five. six interceptions. I think that would have to be the number,

Starting point is 00:25:26 five or six picks to put him on this list. I could see that. The one guy I think will probably have the easiest, like projection right now is Jalen Waddle. Obviously, the new addition here for Bo Nix. I think that in this offense, I think Jalen Waddle is going to have a massive impact. I think he's going to explode.

Starting point is 00:25:42 Now, obviously, he's dealing with a little strain right now. We should see him back at practice the next four or five days according to Sean Payton. But if he could stay healthy and he can be the guy that we've seen so far, that's great. Is there an under the radar name that we feel like, okay, you have, I mean, even Corwin's son can make an argument depending on what type of year he has. But could we somehow see, based on what we've seen in a camp, could Pat Bryant be like this surprise player that maybe lands on this list next year? Like, not necessarily saying it's a high probability, but the biggest surprise could be Pat Bryant.

Starting point is 00:26:16 Yeah. I mean, shoot, Cody, you said it. He could be the star of camp. I mean, he has been just proving himself day after day. I really love what he brings to the table. And I think that he's kind of got that sort of ability that you see all these other receivers around the league. And yes, I think these other players have better speed, you know, literally, like in terms of 40-ar dash than Pat Bryant. But I think he can do a lot of the same things that we see from some of the top receivers in the NFL today.

Starting point is 00:26:43 Like he's not necessarily Pooka Nekua, but I think he has the ability to make those types of strong like hands catches in traffic, right? what Sean Payton calls like congested catches. I think he has similar ability in that way. And I'm not saying that he's, you know, JSN, but I think when you get him the ball in space, he's very crafty to get up field

Starting point is 00:27:05 and find ways to create yardage after the catch. And so, look, once again, for anybody that's listening to this, I'm not saying that Pat Bryant is this great combination of Pooka and Nakua and Jackson Smith and Jigba, the two of the five best receivers in the NFL. But I think he can do a lot

Starting point is 00:27:22 of those things that they do, maybe not to the degree that they do them. But when he gets the ball in space, when he gets the ball down field, he makes those catches in traffic. I think a higher volume for Pat Bryant could result in just a massive year breakthrough for him overall. Also, I just remembered looking at the top 100. Malik neighbors also missed a handful of games due to an ACL entry. He comes in a number 55.

Starting point is 00:27:45 I just, you know, once again, more gripes to be happier on the show in terms of the other wide receivers. There's Garrett Wilson. I mean, Garrett's a stud. You know, he was kind of the, you know, the Lamborghini in the trailer park. Time of analogy with the Jets last year. I think the Jets will be better this year, which bodes well for Garrett. Nico Collins came in at number 82 when you talk about other wider series.

Starting point is 00:28:06 A.J. Brown at number 87. All right. But then when you look, you know, from 91 to 100, Chris Olave. Chris Olave coming in at 94 is very interesting considering the dude. I know he just got an extension. But the concussions, the injuries, the time missed, like, what are we doing? Anyways, with that said, Broncos country, please let us know your thoughts on the locked on NFL top 100. Like Sarah and I said, we respectfully disagree with a lot of our colleagues.

Starting point is 00:28:33 We felt like they got a lot of it wrong, especially with the omissions of Quinn Miners, Bo Nix, where Zach Allen was specifically placed.
