Starting point is 00:00:00 To open up week one of the NFL preseason, the Denver Broncos clip the wings of the Atlanta Falcons. You are Locked on Broncos. Your daily Denver Broncos podcast. Starting point is 00:00:26 Cody Roark, Sarah Beniger here, Broncos country. As Denver opens up 1 and 0 to start the NFL preseason in dominant fashion, we're going to hand out our game ball. Sarah and I have not talked. as to who we are handing game balls out to. So we'll see if we have similar picks, but also we want you to get involved as well. We'll also go through the Broncos defense and their dominant performance, really for the first three and a half quarters of this game.

Starting point is 00:00:48 We're going to kick things off by talking about the Broncos offense coming out in 10 to 15 snaps and cooking the Atlanta Falcons defense. It was a glorious thing to see. Sarah, I mean, where do we even start with this? Because I think when we talk about this offense, we understand the preseason. nothing is going to really define the regular season right now, but what were things that we wanted to see?

Starting point is 00:01:08 You said something specific about running the ball while under center. Yeah, and we saw that. The Broncos had eight plays from under center compared to six shotgun snaps on the first two drives of the game. And I think we've got to give that shout out to the new offensive coordinator, the brand new play caller for the Denver Broncos Davis Webb, who to me, Cody, he was the big story, the big takeaway from this game in terms of just wanting to see.

Starting point is 00:01:34 see certain things. What did we see from Davis? We saw the under center, which we called out for. We saw the emphasis on the running game, which we called for. And we saw the explosives in the passing game spread out to different players. Like, man, Cortland Sutton, we'll talk about his big game later, but he got involved on a couple of big ones downfield. I believe Pat Bryant was the first player that was targeted in this game off a play action, just a perfectly executed play action. Talk about creating separation. Pat Bryant, with the I believe it was a comeback route, Cody, or whatever the route is officially called. That's what, yeah, he was, I mean, there was nobody near him.

Starting point is 00:02:11 So he created a lot of separation, did what he's done. All camp made a big play. Troy Franca, big play. Evan Ingram, big play. Yeah. I mean, Davis Webb was in the bag. So you talked about cooking the Falcons. I mean, Davis Webb was ready to go for his first game this season calling plays for the

Starting point is 00:02:30 Broncos. It was nice, too, because they came out and they had rhythm and balance, right? they were getting up to the line of scrimmage. There were a couple of times late in the game where the clock was kind of winding down. But in the first three quarters, I would say the Broncos, quarterbacks had enough time to read the defense and go through and get the ball snapped with eight or nine seconds left. Like that is efficiency. And to your point, when you're mixing up the looks from under center to the shotgun,

Starting point is 00:02:54 well now all of a sudden you're under center stuff, you're running the ball. Well, guess what that did? It opened up the play action game a little bit. Like these are the things that you look at and you're like, okay, this. can translate. But here's the crazy thing about what we saw here today from the Broncos offense and Davis Webb. For a majority of these practices, there have been sometimes they've brought out the under center stuff. But in the majority of the training camp practices, it's mainly been shotgun work primarily. So they must be in those evening practices that we don't get access to, those

Starting point is 00:03:24 walkthroughs. They must be working on that stuff there. I was pleased with how well that they looked there. You want to talk about an efficient first quarter here for this starting group of offensive players. I mean, the Broncos, they had five first downs, I think, in terms of the passing game, five first downs in the run game. And then there was one first down by penalty. They had 11 first downs in the first quarter alone in this game. And they were two of three on third down. But they had 167 net yards of offense to open up this game in just the first quarter alone.

Starting point is 00:03:53 And obviously, Jared Stidham, six for eight for 122 to open things up. I like the rhythm that we saw with Stidham and the Broncos offense. And I just couldn't imagine. I was like, man, I wish I wish Bowenicks would have. played, right? But obviously, we're going to have to wait till next week. I can't wait to see what Beau looks like with a similar approach to what we saw from this offense here. You couldn't have gotten off to a better start here in the preseason. Even at the preseason, result doesn't matter. You wanted to see a clean operation for the most part. And I like the run game. And once again,

Starting point is 00:04:22 I'd say the early concerted effort to get R.J. Harvey going. He obviously got the start because J.K. Dobbins did not play. I like that. RJ Harvey looked different than some of the things that we saw last year and the run game scheme looked different. Yeah, it did, Cody. I mean, certainly a lot of inside runs for RJ Harvey, specifically on one drive where I think they handed it to him four times in a row. And that's, I mean, that's what you got to do in the preseason. Like if a guy struggled in a certain area last year or if you're trying to get a certain

Starting point is 00:04:51 look or if you're trying to like you, I saw you tweeted and posted about this as well. But remember, it wasn't necessarily personnel related in terms of the Broncos not liking what they were seeing from RJ, Harvey, they identified quickly at the end of last season that it was scheme related. So that was an important emphasis in this. And I thought RJ did a good job running well. I mean, it's an obvious running situation when you're kind of buried deep in your own territory. So what we saw from RJ Harvey, some tough physical running, grinding out some yards,

Starting point is 00:05:21 then Jonah Coleman coming in and really the fans excited. Cody, that 13 yard run that he had, man, it was the, it was the combination of all the things we wanted to see and what we heard about, right? inside running, patience, vision, explosiveness into the gap. And then once he gets met at the second level, he bounces off the first guy and creates yak, which he did better than anybody. I say yak, maybe it's rack for running backs.

Starting point is 00:05:45 Run after contact, yards after contact. You know what I'm saying. Yes. Jack is yards after the catch. Anyways, I digress. Jonah Coleman did all of that on one play, a 13-yard run. Six yards a carry on the game.

Starting point is 00:05:59 Four carries, 24 yards. I mean, it was, It was impressive. Like, if you could have drawn it up and said before the game, hey, we want to see this from this player. I think if we would go down the list of pretty much every guy in the starting offense, we saw it in this game from what Davis Webb was able to do getting these guys involved. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:06:18 And look, I just, once again, we talked about it in our pregame show, our preview that we had earlier today. You want to see balance from the offense, right? And I like that they were unloading an attack and throwing the ball downfield. There were several guys that made plays, Joseph Madjack. Got a couple of nice downfield catches. No gloves is what they're calling him. You mentioned the run game there with Jonah Coleman.

Starting point is 00:06:37 That spin move that he had where he bounced off a one run on a cutback. That was, but that's the stuff that, you know, I think Sean is like, you don't see a rookie when you see this guy. To the point that I was watching this game, and I said, there's no way. And I understand it's the precinct. I'm not trying to get carried away here, folks. But I'm saying there's no way when you watch Jonah run behind this starting offensive line.

Starting point is 00:06:56 I didn't even have Luke Wattenberg, by the way. You just can't help but get excited. And for Davis Webb, it's like, all right, you know, dang well. You're going to find a way to feed three running backs. And I think if the run game can get going, Sarah, the Broncos will welcome three backs. And you know what that does for Bow Nix? It opens up everything else. I liked what we saw from Evan Ingram. I even saw your tweet as the game went on. Cortland Sutton had a 40-yard catchdown field where he just won a one-on-one jump ball. And those vet days seem to be doing him pretty nicely, by the way. But Evan Ingram drew a lot of

Starting point is 00:07:27 attention from three different defenders, which allowed Cortland vertically to have the one-on-one. So now imagine okay there's Evan what is this going to look like when jalen wattle gets thrown into the mix man oh i mean cody it gets me so excited because ultimately this is the kind of talent at the skill positions that we have been desperately longing for since we've been doing this podcast right i mean and before obviously since you've been doing this podcast certainly the broncos have struggled offensively many many years but this is the precise ask if we were sitting on santa his lap and we said, this is what I want the Broncos offense to look like next season. Please, can you make this happen?

Starting point is 00:08:08 This is what we got. I mean, and Cortland Sutton making that big play, you notice three defenders on Angram right in front of him, right? And so what does that indicate to you? Well, if defenses are going to then try to cover Cortland, that means that Evan is going to be able to get opportunities. And then shoot, you've got Pat Bryant creating separation. Troy Franklin had a really nice play in this game as well.

Starting point is 00:08:31 Yeah. I thought it was interesting. Ryan Harris mentioned this, Cody. It hasn't gotten talked about a ton. But Ryan Harris said from his observations at training camp, man, Franklin has been equally the star that Pat Bryant has, which is a bit of news to me, maybe some hyperbole on his part,

Starting point is 00:08:47 but certainly he said it. And so I was like, dang, that's some high praise for Troy Franklin. But maybe he meant more lately, because I know we've been seeing Troy's name pop up more lately. But, I mean, you can sense the excitement, I think, in just our voices. The Jonah Coleman thing as well that I wanted to point out, Cody,

Starting point is 00:09:06 he got pulled from this game rather early for a guy who is not going to get involved too much. I mean, if we can't involve three backs, it's really hard to involve three backs. Well, Jonah got pulled pretty early from the game. So I think that says everything that we need to know about what the coaching staff believes about his role and involvement this season. And once again, I think just look, this is what we asked for. This is what we wanted.

Starting point is 00:09:30 and we wanted to see dominance. We got it. The offense led the way. I mean, it was great to see, Cody, all around for the offense. Just an outstanding balanced performance. While the offense was balanced and it was efficient, so was the Broncos defense. Stay with us, Broncos country. Coming up next, we're going to break down while the Denver Broncos defense

Starting point is 00:11:03 I don't think Falcons fans are very excited about Tua tautagel by Loa after what they saw in the preseason opener. We're going to break down the Broncos defensive performance, a breakthrough for Jada Baron, Riley Moss getting on the board, and much more coming up on today's episode of the show. Broncos Country. Starting point is 00:11:29 It's always great to celebrate a Broncos victory. And Cody, I was saying, like, watching this game with my family, I was saying, man, it's so nice to just, like, we have so much positive to talk about. Like, my son is now wanting a Baron jersey after watching Jadae Barron come through. I was like, hey, let's just, we can, we'll see what happens, right? But you know how that is. Like, it's cool to see, like, a player like Jaday, especially, who's probably the story of the game in terms of the defensive side of the ball.

Starting point is 00:12:00 It gets a pick six in this game. Really great performance all around, though, beyond that. I think this defense, Cody, looks ready to, I mean, go win a championship. That was my takeaway. They look ready to go win a title and they look better than they even did at their peak last season, in my opinion. Yeah, and if they could stay healthy, that's going to be a big key for them. I think this defensive group is very talented. It almost looked like they kind of picked up right where they left off last year in terms of the pressure looks.

Starting point is 00:12:27 I mean, Nick Benito and Jonathan Cooper, my goodness, Tuatungo Vilo was getting pressured left and right, hit left and right. Malcolm Roach getting in on the action. I found it interesting. It was in Yoma Uazurike, Zach Allen, getting the two starts there at defensive end alongside DJ Jones at the nose tackle position, which is common of, you know, some of the things we've seen in camp. But, I mean, you talk about smothering.

Starting point is 00:12:50 Sarah, I want to point out this one very interesting note from this game on Friday night. The Broncos defense, and this is in combination with, the first group of starters on the Atlanta Falcons first nine drives. They either had to punt or they had a turnover. They had seven punts, two turnovers. Riley Moss coming away with an interception because of a pressure by Jonah Ellis, which was fantastic. And then Jaday Barron having the 97-yard pick six.

Starting point is 00:13:17 And shout out to Corne Reed for deflecting that pass up end of the air. That was complimentary football that we saw from this Broncos defense. But that's crazy. out of the first nine drives for the Falcons, seven punts, two turnovers. The Broncos defense, they were filling it. And they held Atlanta to a hundred and ninety two total yards offense in this game. Yeah, it was really impressive. And you saw Riley Moss on the sideline give a little kiss to the football that he intercepted as well.

Starting point is 00:13:44 I think just kind of a really good feeling for him to get off to this kind of start. It almost feels like an, like a good omen for him for this season in terms of, hey, you had a great training camp. and then in the first preseason game, the ball finds you and you make that play. Like he only has one or two interceptions, Cody. I mean, out of the 220, two interceptions out of 220 plus targets in his coverage over the last two seasons. So he wants that ball. He wants to be doing what he did at Iowa and picking it off all the time. So I think that to get that, okay, now you can start to build a little something.

Starting point is 00:14:21 You've got some momentum. Great to see him make that play. Jaday as well. first drive of the game, the opening drive for the Falcons. Jaday had the tackle on third down in space. He was kind of left on an island out there, a really great play breaking down, doing something that I think is a really underrated skill of his in making those open field tackles.

Starting point is 00:14:40 And so we saw that. We saw obviously great run defense. Jonathan Cooper was very explosive in this game. I mean, it was just a, the defensive front, Uazerike, getting that start at the John Franklin Meyer spot. I mean, there's so many things that, like I said, you can pick any player from the roster and you could say, okay, what did they do in this game? Well, they made some sort of impact or they made some sort of positive play, it feels like, not everybody, but pretty much, right? So I loved what we saw from the, like the defense overall.

Starting point is 00:15:14 And I think they could have had even more, right? Jadae dropped an interception as well, which I'm sure what he was kicking himself about. But they had other tip passes at the line of scrimmage. They had J.L. Skinner dropped an interception. I mean, it could have been what as dominant as it was. It could have been even crazier. Yeah, and it was just nice to see the energy. I mean, the defense was flying to wherever the football was, Jide, included.

Starting point is 00:15:36 I'm so happy for Jadae because you and I've had to talk about on the show. There are a lot of talking heads here locally in Denver on, you know, radio stations that have been saying nothing but nonsense about Jada. And once again, those guys don't pay attention. They really don't. And it frustrates me because those narratives get put out. and they're the loudest things that are heard. And so the family's like, oh, Jaday's playing terrible.

Starting point is 00:15:56 It's like, no, Jaday's fine. Jaday in practice, he hasn't been making a lot of plays, but he hasn't been giving up a lot of plays either. And so now you see him translate that going in and make it a tackle on Kyle Pitts on third down in the open field. You love to see that. Then the pick six, then the almost other interception. Got out to Jaday.

Starting point is 00:16:13 What was interesting about this defensively, I mean, even though Denver was dominant. Man, they only had one sack. And you know who it was? It was the guy that we talked about in our pregame show as well, a player to watch. Drew Sanders getting home. Coverage sack across the board. I liked what I saw from Denver's pass rush. There was a lot of pressure, a lot

Starting point is 00:16:29 of force throws by Falcons quarterbacks because of that. But man, can we talk about Red Murdoch, Tori and York? Those guys were everywhere where the football was at. Yeah, Red Murdoch had a awesome play that he busted up a screen. You see the instincts and you see a little bit of the range

Starting point is 00:16:45 as well. I mean, he got burnt in coverage a time or two, not burnt necessarily, but beat, you know. But this particular play that he busted up a screen. He had to navigate through, I think, two or three blockers that had already made their way out there. And he just kind of knifed through and made the play. And you saw, man, he brings that hammer hook really physically and violently when he's

Starting point is 00:17:06 trying to punch that ball loose. I mean, we obviously took note of that because he did that so well at the college level. He's trying to make that happen. I was watching a level right away. He was close a couple of times. Did you see there was like a catch across the middle the guy had and he's just he's pulling his arm back and he's just going. Like he's got a hand on the hip of the guy,

Starting point is 00:17:26 but he's going to bring that, that hand for her to try to peanut punch that thing out, man. I love it. I like it. And I felt like Torrean and I felt like Karenne and even Red. I felt like these three guys stood out. And unfortunately, Lavel Bailey went down with an ankle injury,

Starting point is 00:17:41 did not return. But I felt like for that LB3 spot, we got a lot of great insight as to these guys here. I felt like all three of those guys that stepped up up and made plays behind the stars, I felt like they deserve some recognition. J.L. Skinner, I felt like played terrific, especially coming up against the run as well.

Starting point is 00:17:57 You know, I think the other thing you look at here with this defense is just, once again, you saw the depth of this group. It was all over the place. I mean, they had guys coming in waves, guys making plays left and right. It was nice to see. And the fact that even though they were kind of playing a little bit more softer in the fourth quarter, they were allowing stuff and there's rallying and tackling.

Starting point is 00:18:18 I felt they did a good job on those key moments. It's third down specifically of stuffing the Atlanta Falcons. I mean, I believe the Falcons in this game finished four of 15 on third down. That's 27 percent. We all know last year, the Broncos defense was the number one third down defense in the NFL. No surprise. Vance Joseph's system is working. And that's not even the exotic blitz looks that Vance likes to run yet.

Starting point is 00:18:41 They were generating pressure. And they were getting after Cooper Rush, Tuatung of Iloa, and everybody in this game. It was just nice to see now you get two preseason games. at home coming up in front of your home crowd on grass versus the turf. I know the turf was a little problematic at a couple of spots seeing guys slip. But overall, the Broncos defense, they answered the call in this game, not only the starters, but you also got to see the other guys getting in the mix as well. Second team, third team, even the fourth string guys getting a chance to go in.

Let's start on the offensive side of the ball. I will give you the first honors. Who are you handing a game ball to for their performance on Friday night? I want to give a game ball to Cortland Sutton, Cody. I feel like three targets, three catches, 60 yards, made the amazing one arm, one-handed grab on a, you know,

Starting point is 00:21:07 a throw from Jarrett Stidham. That was perfectly placed. We know Cortland Sutton is the king of the back shoulder throw on a third or fourth down. And he gave him one. And he had a little, you know, just Moss moment over C.J. Henderson who, Cody, C.J. Henderson, people need to know. watching that highlight. He's not like a slot corner that is, you know, five foot eight, even though Cortland Sutton makes him look small. He's six one, two hundred five pounds. And

Starting point is 00:21:32 Cortland dwarfs him on that particular play. He also made a great play deep downfield, had a conversion, I think, on a second and six or second and eight, something like that. So really successful stuff from Cortland Sutton, who like you mentioned earlier, I mean, three days of practice, like the load management stuff, you know, him being a good soldier. Ah, shoot. Look, we always talk about this. Like, there's new heights that Cortland can reach, we feel, we believe. And I think he's continuing to prove that. He's done that the last few seasons.

Starting point is 00:22:04 So I'm expecting it once again, especially after what we saw in this game. Got to hand out a game ball to load management then for court because, hey, as he's getting older, he's aging like fine wine in terms of his production. And I've even said it as well on this show that I think Cortland's best football is still to come. And that is an exciting trend to see how that gets started. I like that. On the offensive side of the ball, this is tough because, I mean, I could go with Jared Stedham. Jared, I thought, did a terrific job coming in and operating the offense here, very efficient. I mean, he will ideally get one. I think we handed one out on our lockdown Broncos social pages.

Starting point is 00:22:35 But I'm going to give one to Jonah Coleman just for the fact that I liked what I saw, four total touches for him, 24 yards, six yards per carry. But it's just the things that we saw, the traits, the pass protection, the running and also identifying where the cutback lane was because the defense over pursued. He's pinballing off of guys for a first down. He is going to be a fun player to watch. Even though he had a limited sample size, he was yanked out pretty quickly. And the Brock was like, yeah, we know what we got with this Jonah Coleman guy. I'm going to give Jonah a game ball.

Starting point is 00:23:06 I love that, Cody. I mean, obviously the rookie making his debut had a lot of high expectations to live up to, even being a fourth round draft pick, right? I feel like Jonah's been kind of getting treated like a day two pick by the fan base and justifiably so. This is a thin running back class. I think he was one of the top five or six back selected anyway, even though he was a fourth rounder.

Starting point is 00:23:28 So certainly you feel good for him and you feel good about his inclusion in the rotation after seeing this game defensively. Let's go, I mean, Jaday Barron is the low-hanging fruit here. So do we give, I mean, obviously he's going to get a game ball for sure. Do we go with a deeper cut here, Cody, or are we sticking with Jadae as today's defensive game ball? Where are you going with this one? Yeah, let's stick with.

Starting point is 00:23:51 Let's stick with Jaday, I think collectively. I had a different guy, and it's one of your favorite guys. It's a red. It's Redd Murdoch. And the reason why, Red was all over the place. He finished the game with the team lead and tackles in eight in this game. I just felt like his energy was exactly where it needed to be right. You're seeing a guy who's attacking downhill.

Starting point is 00:24:12 Don't get mad of me for saying that, Sean Payton. Attacking downhill, reading run, and then flying out, as you mentioned, to disrupt a potential screenplay out there in the flat. Like he is, he sees it. He processes it. And then he reacts. Like that's the thing you like to see with these young guys is, okay, sometimes these young guys freeze like a deer in headlights because they're thinking too much.

Starting point is 00:24:31 Red wasn't thinking much at all. He was just going. And I like the physicality that he brought to the table. I'm going to give Mr. Eight Tackles, Red, game ball here for Friday night. I love that pick. Red. We're going to be doing that all season. So just get ready for the Frank Castle impressions to be flowing.

Starting point is 00:24:49 I'll say, you know what, I'll say Jonah Ellis for me because every single time he's on the field, man. And when he's healthy, he just, he flies around. He's so tough to block. He gets a pass rush using speed to power. He gets a great secondary rush. He's such a high effort guy. He's so athletic. I just feel like he has such a good feel for the game.

Starting point is 00:25:12 Like Jonah Ellis is definitely one of those guys that, okay, you talk about wanting to break the sack record. you're going to need a village to do it. Jonah Ellis is going to be that guy that steps up this year. I think Cody, and we're going to just be like, dang, like his pass rush productivity, the amount of pressures that he has on whatever snap count he ends up getting is going to be off the charts. I just feel like Jonah Ellis, he's proving that breakout season is coming.

Starting point is 00:25:40 And he's getting his hands up two in the passing lanes. He finished the game with two passes defensed or deflected in this game. Once again, I felt like the Broncos D line. That was even something. I think you and I talked about, man, remember when they used to just get their hands up and bat passes down at the line of scrimmage? That happened quite a bit in this game here for the Broncos. So I like that pick of Jonah Ellis. Now we get to the fun part, special teams because sometimes people, I think, in the preseason, don't pay attention to special teams.

Starting point is 00:26:05 So, Sarah, who is getting your special teams game ball? This is a tough one for me, Cody, because I want to watch the guys in the coverage units, although I don't necessarily think anybody in the coverage units had like the biggest standout game. I want to go with Cameron Ross. I think overall special teams and offense, I feel like Cameron Ross, who took the opening kickoff, which I do believe is, you know, interesting because he wasn't listed on the kickoff return depth chart.

Starting point is 00:26:35 I think he was listed on the pump return depth chart. Or maybe it was one of, maybe it was backwards there. But either way, Cameron Ross coming out there, getting involved early in the, offense as well as the special teams. I think he showed some nice explosiveness. I think he showed the, you know,

Starting point is 00:26:50 about ability to catch punts and kickoffs and things like that. So I'm the special teams, they might get in a little trouble this week, Cody, at Luke Basso with a bad snap resulting in a miss field goal. I don't know. Matt Parrott. Oh, Matt Parrott with the penalty.

Starting point is 00:27:05 Yeah. I don't know. I just think that it's going to be Cameron Ross almost by default. Are you going any different direction there? No, no. that was the exact guy that I was going to make mention out you know shout out to Jeremy Crosha I think his first punt it wasn't necessarily the best but then he went out there I think he would boomed a 62 yarder that ended up netting 56 if I'm not mistaken so I'll give Jeremy Crosha a little

Starting point is 00:27:29 bit of an honorable mention here but if I'm looking at it yeah Crosha I had oh no his longest was 62 he boomed the 62 he had two inside of the 20 so that's the stuff you love to see here in the preseason of course you don't want to be punting much but you have to stand out for that I also like to what we saw Cameron Ross do in terms of even just getting involved on like end around stuff. I mean, he had a 28-yard rush and he almost tripped over his own feet, but he kept going. Like, he's a nice little player that I'm thinking to myself, Sarah, the Broncos might have to try to get him out of the practice squad. But if you have to have someone behind Marvin Mims, I would say from everything I've seen in training camp to what I've seen, at least in this first preseason game, Cameron Ross should be that next return guy on kick return. And he should be the backup part returner behind Marvin.

Starting point is 00:28:14 Yeah, I think so. And especially what we saw in this game, too. I mean, Sean Fresh did a decent job. I think catch him once. They didn't really give him a ton of opportunities to return them, but I liked the opportunities that they did get, you know, to catch it. And it's deep in your own territory. So if you don't catch it, that's a huge problem.

Starting point is 00:28:31 So it's a pressure-filled situation as opposed to like, hey, go out there and see if you can bust one for, you know, a huge, like you're trying to make sure that you set your offense up and you just have to catch it first or make the right decision. on a fair catch, which I think Cameron Ross, I don't know what's the cutoff, Cody. I don't know what's the cut off like for a fair catch and then catching it like inside the five or where do you, as a punt returner, where do you let it bounce into the end zone? And I don't know where you do that, but he caught one at like the five or the six.

Starting point is 00:29:01 And I was kind of questioning that one. But other than that, I thought those two guys did a good job. Well, sometimes you have to weigh it, right? I think it depends on how high the punt is. If your heels are at the 10-yard line, you have to really pay attention. like, okay, based on how this ball is coming down, like, does it have a spin or is it flat? If it has a spin, well, then that's where it's good. If you let it hit the ground, more than likely it's going to go into the back of the end zone,

Starting point is 00:29:24 unless it's a back spin to where it will bounce and then it'll come outward. That's what you don't want to have happen. So you just have to gauge it, but I think fielding it is better. Even, look, Colby Katz has had a nice little return too. He's fast. He is fast. But unfortunately, I got called back due to a holding penalty. So that was one of the problem areas that came out of the.

Starting point is 00:29:43 Morocco's win on Friday night was the fact that Sean Payton was not happy about the penalties that took place. There was one obviously you mentioned the earlier, the false start on Matt Perrett on fourth and short where they were going to go for it. And then he was even out there on the P.A.T. And Will Lutz had to force it and he missed. So Sean Payton on the broadcast, they even caught the camera of him chatting with Matt Perretton. Didn't seem like he had any nice words to say on that one. But overall, man, the perfect way to open up the preseason here, victorious. That's always what you want. You want to win the preseason. You don't get anything for it, but you always like winning. You want to dominate everything. I think the Broncos have now won eight straight preseason games

Starting point is 00:30:19 since Sean Payton has taken over as the head coach. Can they keep that street going next week? As the Green Bay Packers come to town, well, guess what?
