Denver Broncos tied in. Evan Ingram is in a position to be used a lot more than he did last year.
And OTAs in the offseason program were a great indication.

com slash locked on. That's ODO.O.com slash locked on as we break down three players who stock rose
during the offseason program, OTAs and minicamp. Red Murdoch, the Bronco seventh round rookie draft pick.
He has shined. He's got the instincts there. Can he translate that over when the pads come on?
We'll discuss that. Plus, Jonah Ellis looks like he will probably be the guy opposite of Nick Benito,
or he'll have a larger role this upcoming season defensively at the outside lineback position.
We're going to kick things off by talking about why Evan Ingram's usage in the offseason program this year is different than what we saw in last year's offseason program and how that could benefit him going into the last year of his deal.
I think this is obviously a very important conversation.
I think for a lot of people in Broncos country, because when we were out at OTAs and mandatory minicamp, everybody was saying, okay, well, Evan Ingram's getting a lot of usage.
Well, I heard all this talk about Evan Ingram last year.
They didn't use him.
I would say that he's been used more in the offseason program this year than what we see.
saw in totality last year.
And I think that's a promising sign.
That's a promising development.
It's certainly better than the alternative, right?
Which would be like, oh, man, we're still not seeing Evan involved as much or he didn't
really look great out there.
I think Evan is one of those players that, man, we built up the hype so much and felt like
he could be that missing piece for the offense, right?
Which I think in some ways, he really could have been.
And we saw that on occasions for the Broncos last year.
when they actually got him involved as a vertical threat after the catch.
I mean, he was dynamic.
And he did finish third on the team in targets,
but you and I have talked about the fact that it didn't really feel like that.
That might be a fact,
but that didn't really seem how the offense was structured last season,
was to have Evan as the third most targeted player.
I think that over the course of the season,
you kind of discover a number of different ways how to use him,
how not to use him.
And now with Davis Webb calling the plays,
It feels like the Broncos can truly execute that vision for him because we know Davis, you know, was a big part of the reason why Evan signed in Denver in the first place.
And now that you've seen, hey, this doesn't work, let's do what might work again, you know, and try to figure out why there was not, not really much chemistry between he and Bowenix.
Find out why he had the highest drop rate of his NFL career despite playing the lowest percentage of snaps of his NFL career.
So to know that he's on the rise, stock up, getting involved.
all of that OTAs.
You know, I remember I read a report from Troy Rank that said he's out there basically
torching the linebackers and coverage.
I mean, that has a double-edged sword when you're competing against your own team, right?
But for Evan, it's any sort of good news is what we wanted and what we needed from this
off-season program.
Well, and I think a lot of it, too, is when we look at last year and certainly the data
suggests this when you talk about the numbers in terms of the routes that Evan ran.
It got these numbers from our friends over there at TrueMeet.
media. Overall, okay, let's go through first down, second down, third down. Total routes ran for
Evan Ingram last year. On first down, he ran a total of 124 routes throughout the season, second down,
113 total routes. Third down, 121 total routes. His top two routes that he ran last year were crossing
routes and out routes, first down. And here's where I think we can dive into, okay, maybe defense is
telegraphed a little bit as to what Evan Ingram was doing, or at least in certain down-to-down situations,
what routes they knew to expect.
On first down last season,
Evan ran 23 crossing routes.
He ran 35 out routes.
And early on,
that was kind of telegraphed
in that Tennessee Titans game
that we saw in week one.
Second down, he ran 20 crossing routes,
29 total out routes.
And then the third down,
he ran 20 crossing routes,
34 out routes.
And it almost just seemed like
those were the two routes
that the Broncos used Evan on most.
Now, they also ran him on some goes,
but I think for him,
he only had, I think, 11 go routes down the field.
So not a lot when you talk about the overall volume of reps that he had, I believe,
360 something total offensive routes last season.
The route tree for him in terms of how he was used,
he ran other things like kitschers, but the higher volume of percentages
lean towards crossing routes and out routes.
So there was never really this true sense of a vertical threat based on how the Broncos
were using him.
And I feel like now with Davis calling place,
it feels like early on that's going to change.
I think so, and I think it's got to because having him as a vertical threat opens everything else up in this offense.
And you talk about guys who can win underneath like Jalen Waddle, Pat Bryant, even Troy Franklin.
I have a feeling that Evan can help with that.
And the short passing game wasn't overly successful for the Broncos last season in terms of they have a high volume of passes that were within 10 yards.
to want, you know, they, they were attacking the short area of the field more than pretty much
any other team last year. But man, it just didn't work out. And I think that you have to have
players who can, like Evan, you know, win vertically down the field, give him opportunities to
go win those contested catch situations. Don't just kind of throw in the white flag when teams
are playing that too high look. But also the chemistry with Bo Nix, Cody. I think that that is
really an area of emphasis this coming season. We know last season, his quarterback rating Bo Nix, when
targeting Evan Ingram wasn't very good.
86.6.6.
I mean, that's pretty average, right?
And so you could tell it was a work in progress.
50 catches on 76 targets.
As I mentioned, his eight drops last season contributed to the highest drop pass
percentage of his entire NFL career.
461 yards on 50 catches is not terrible,
but we really need to see the efficiency when the Broncos target Bo Nix,
or excuse me, when Bo Nix targets Evan Ingram improved substantially.
And I think it will.
I think that's like we talk about usage.
You get up to the line of scrimmage.
You can identify things.
You don't necessarily have to say, hey, in order to get Evan involved,
we have to have him be the first read on this play.
It doesn't have to be that.
But I think more of that, like we saw in the first half against the Jets last season.
Everybody points to that commander's game last year and says,
well, that's how Evan should be involved.
And that's a fair point.
But I look back at that Jets game in the first half in London, right?
Was that the Jets game?
Yeah.
It feels like more than a year ago at this point.
But Evan, you know, he was involved in that first half as a vertical threat, as an after the catch threat, as somebody who the Broncos were like, hey, we're going to pick on you with Evan Ingram because he's bigger and faster than your guy.
That's what I want to see more of this coming season.
One, I think even in that Jets game, too, there was a fourth and four scenario and they got him matched up against Jamie and Sherwood, who's a very good linebacker in today's game.
they ran him on the out route for a first down on that specific play there.
But, I mean, I think there is an ideal scenario here where it's like you get Evan matched up
against a slower linebacker.
I'm going to take Evan on that.
I mean, we saw them set it up with Bobby Wagner and that commander's game in overtime
where they kind of ran that snag concept and he sat a few times, got Bobby to buy it.
So now it's like, hey, now we're going to run the snag.
We're going to sell the sit.
We're going to shimmy.
And then we're going to extend it out because we got man coverage here.
That's exactly what the Broncos needed to do.
I think Davis Webb, there will be a concerted effort from him to get Ingram more involved.
We've seen it so far in OTAs and in practice.
Can we see that in training camp, the preseason?
And can we see that carry over to the regular season?
The Bow Nix, Evan Ingram connection is going to be something that I think needs to take a step forward here in 2026.
The Broncos want to have success, especially at the tight end position, which has kind of been block, block, get involved somewhat in the passing game.
The volume of snaps that Evan's going to play, the Broncos need to be.
put him in a position to where he can have a bigger impact here going for it.
And I do think that his usage will certainly be different than what we saw last season.
Brock Coast Country, let's know how you feel about Evan Ingerman, what we have seen coming out of OTAs
and mandatory minicamp in terms of his usage here on today's episode of the show.
But coming up next, another player who stood out during the off season, Jonah Ellis looks like
he's going to be the guy opposite of Nick Benito and he's going to be in line for a bigger role.
We'll tell you how here on today's episode of the show.
Today's episode, Lockdown Broncos, is brought to you by our friends over there at Odu.
Running a business shouldn't feel like you're trying to connect a bunch of systems that were never designed to work together.
You got one app for accounting, another one for inventory, another one for sales, and somehow none of them talk to each other.
Avoid that chaos here today with Odu.
That's where Odu comes in.
Odo is an all-in-one business management software that brings every part of your business together in one powerful platform from sales and accounting to inventory and marketing.
Everything works together in one place, helping your team move forward.
faster, stay organized, and more importantly, focus on growing the business instead of managing
software. The best organizations know that success isn't just about talent. It's about having everyone
working toward the same goal. And that's true in sports, just like it is in business. I think
George Payton, Sean Payton, that power dynamic between these two guys is certainly important. We
see how they've operated, put the Broncos on stage to compete for a Super Bowl this year and going
forward. They're tied together for the next five seasons at least, which is a good sign. And great
organizations win because operations matter.
And that's why you should get O-D-D-D-D-O-O-D-com slash locked-on.
That's O-D-O-O-O-O-com slash locked on.
Jonah Ellis was on the all-ro rookie team in 2024,
and he might be on the all-breakout player team in 2026.
Jonah Ellis, going to take that step forward this season,
Broncos country, get ready for it,
get ready to maybe open up your wallet.
Jonah Ellis might become a jersey guy before too long.
And we're going to tell you exactly what he brings to the
what Cody saw out there at OTAs and mini camp from Jonah Ellis, who's looking explosive.
But want to say thank you to every single one of you that makes Lockdown Broncos,

Cody, let's talk about Jonah.
Ellis and what you saw from him specifically out there.
I know that Jonah is an athletic dude.
He came into the NFL with some shoulder issues.
He's very explosive.
He's very much a, you know, twitchy pressure player who can, you know, win from a variety of
alignments.
We've seen that.
The Broncos have lined him up.
We know they toyed with the idea of putting him at linebacker this year.
That's no longer happening.
But the reason why that was even considered is because this guy is super athletic.
And he's very explosive, very fast, very fast.
physical. He's on special teams for a reason. He's one of the team's best
tacklers, I would say. I think Jonah, like we're talking about here today, is ready for
a breakout, notwithstanding the Jonathan Cooper stuff that's going on. I think Jonah has been ready.
This has been bubbling beneath the surface for quite some time. Yeah, and I would say with
Cooper on the field or with Cooper off the field, I think Jonah, as you mentioned, is going to be in
line for a large role. I mean, to the point where they initially considered getting him
snaps at off ball linebacker to the point when they've been on the field,
Sean Payton said, hey, he's just too good for us to move from that spot to
another position. But they also have the ability now, especially in Vance his defense,
to drop him back into coverage from the outside lineback position. He did that last season.
But the one thing I'd say I've noticed about Jonah, he looks fully healthy, which is a good sign.
You know, there's times where obviously he's been banged up. He's dealt with a shoulder
injury at college, his rookie year. You know, in that playoff game, he suffered another shoulder injury.
last year he dealt with a shoulder, a rib, a groin, a hamstring injury.
It just seems like his body's in a really good spot right now.
He looks bigger.
He looks more physical and he looks a lot faster.
Granted, the pads aren't on.
I think the pads will slow you down a little bit, but I'm so excited to see what that
looks like.
Can he dominate the way that we've seen him sort of dominate this offseason program
when the pads come on?
I think historically when we've seen Jonah on the field, Sarah, I mean, there's been no
greater indication that like he's not going to.
succeed. He is going to succeed because so far in his young career, he has. And I think one of the
things you look at it, he's played in 30 games in two seasons as a rotational edge rusher.
He's been a high pressure player, 23 pressures, seven and a half sacks. He missed some games last
year due to injury, but he's able to get after the quarterback on those 23 pressures, 11
quarterback hits. And he's also very good at setting the edge and getting tackles for a loss
behind the line of scrimmage. I mean, Sarah, I think everything here. Now you maybe anticipate and project
a larger role for him, especially if he ends up becoming a starter, which is a very real possibility
with the ongoing Jonathan Cooper situation that Broncos continue to monitor here.
I would say Jonah Ellis, his numbers could explode significantly.
There might be a scenario here where maybe he has this type of production that we just talked about
with the 23 pressure, 7.5 sacks, 11 quarterback hits, 12 TFLs.
He might be able to get all of that in just one season if he is a starter.
I think so, and I think he could even, I think he could blow that sack number out of the water, right?
I mean, it's seven and a half sacks in 30 games.
That's, it's hard to build momentum when you're a rotational guy or when you are, you know,
playing through injuries and things like that.
He only had two and a half sacks last season, but at the age of 21, I mean, he's one of the youngest players in NFL history back in 2020,
to have five or more sacks in a season.
So there's a reason why he made the all rookie team beyond the fact that he was just one of the only edge guys.
to be playing. He really outplayed most of the guys in his draft class coming in. So I feel like
Jonah has the opportunity to not only think about this, okay, because we got to put ourselves in
these hypothetical scenarios. Jonah on the field with Nick Benito, we don't see that a ton right now.
I mean, up to this point, we haven't seen that a ton. So when Nick Benito is attracting and
commanding so much attention and rushing the quarterback at the level that he does, and Zach Allen,
who was second only behind Miles Garrett in quarterback hits last season,
you have those two guys on the field.
What's going to happen to Jonah Ellis?
He's going to get favorable matchups, one-on-one matchups.
He's going to get the opportunity to do what he does best,
which is win with a combination of speed, effort, power, hustle.
I mean, he can combine all those skills.
We heard about a play at OTAZA.
You were telling us about Cody,
where he had a spin move that was just sickly off the edge
and really putting an offensive tackle into a blender.
That's the type of stuff that he brings to the table when he's fully healthy,
is that football IQ and DNA that is so ingrained in him as a,
you know, part of a huge football family that there's just certain things that he can do
on the football field that you can't teach guys because it's natural to him.
So I've been high on Jonah Ellis for a long time.
I know you have as well.
We've been kind of waiting for him to be able to stay healthy and stay on the field.
I think one stat that's going to go up, Cody, here's my opinion.
Here's my bold prediction for Jonah Ellis.
One stat that is going to increase significantly if Jonah plays, you know, let's say 500 or more snaps,
forced fumbles for the Denver Broncos are going to skyrocket because of Jonah Ellis.
I think he's going to have at least three or four of those this coming season.
Okay.
I like that.
And look, I'll say this.
If he is, if he becomes a full-time starter, which I think there's a very real chance that
happens this year with or without the Cooper season.
situation going on right now. I do think that he would probably get double digit sacks.
I would say 10. Like 10 would be a safe place to start, hopefully a little bit more, right,
especially with that scenario you presented with Nick Benito, Zach Allen, and who knows how
the other guys in that defensive rush rotation are going to impact things for them, specifically
DJ Jones, Malcolm Roach. Like those guys are eating up double teams and you're getting these one-on-ones.
I like from what I've seen from Jonah Ellis with the athleticism and I would say the speed that you see
from him, he is going to get out to the QB.
And I think that those force fumbles, they need that to go up.
I know that's been an emphasis for Vance Joseph.
Sean Payton is highlighted how that is something that they absolutely need to do.
So I know while people were getting mad at you for saying like, hey, the Broncos are
the NFL in Sacks last year, but they didn't force a lot of takeaways.
People were getting mad at you.
It's like you were taking a shot at the defense.
That wasn't the case.
You're pointing out a very real thing that Sean Payton and Vance Joseph felt very strongly
about.
I was like, hey, look, we love the sacks, but takeaways are going to be the difference
maker that ultimately wins you games.
separates you from being able to do things,
especially in the postseason,
you have to be able to get those takeaways.
And luckily Denver did that against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
But Jonah Ellis is a player,
sir.
I agree with you.
It's in prime for a big time breakout this upcoming season.
If things continue to progress,
the way that we have seen from him so far,
going through the offseason program in OTAs,
Denver's in a good position,
I'd say with their pass rushers behind Nick Benito.
They have a ton of talent and they got guys that are ready to contribute.
And I think that'll also help us see a little bit more of Q Robinson, Dandre Tillman a little bit more.
But if it's Nick Benito and Jonah Ellis, Sarah, I like it.
I like that duo.
And I think it can have an opportunity to go out there and wreck a little bit of havoc this upcoming season against opposing quarterback.
So Broncos, country, let's know your thoughts here on Jonah Ellis, what you see from him, what you want to see from him.
If he does take on a little bit of a larger role, which we anticipate will take place here this upcoming season.
But coming up next, the Broncos, they drafted a linebacker in the seventh round as,
Mr. Irrelevant, but nothing about Red Murdoch has been irrelevant as we've observed him during
OTAs and could he be in position to be LB3 behind Alex Singleton and Justin Sternad.

Red Murdoch has been standing out during the Broncos
rookie minicamp.
OTA's mandatory mini camp.
And now there's a lot of momentum for him as the Broncos get ready for training camp at the end of July.
And could he be in a position to be the LB3 behind Justin Sternad and Alex Singleton?
We'll tell you why we think that's possible here on today's show.
I just want to say thanks.
Once again, all the everydayers out there in Broncos country tuning in here on the lockdown podcast network,
your team every day.
Plus it's the number one sports podcast network in the country.
Thanks to all of you.
We appreciate you so much.
You want boots on the ground coverage of your Denver Broncos.
This is the best place to get just that.
Sarah, Red Murdoch has been one of those guys that I've been paying attention to every time he's on the field.
I'm always observing how quick is he to react to run pass?
If it's run, how quick is he to fill?
If it's passed, how quick does he get to a spot?
What does he look like in coverage?
Everything I've seen right now from Red Murdoch, it showcases that Vance Joseph has already put a lot of trust in him.
And there's no pressure really for Red to be something he's not right away.
But to the point, I think he's playing so freely right now with the Bronch.
Bronco's inside linebacker room being what it is with Jonah Ellis staying outside linebacker,
there is a prime opportunity for Red to be that third linebacker behind Justin and behind Alex.
And there might even be a chance for him to play a little bit this upcoming season.
Things are looking good right now early on for Red Murdoch.
There's a chance for him to become the steal of this year's draft, Cody.
I mean, I think when you're Mr. Irrelevant, you're already going to be drawing a lot of the spotlight.
But here's the big difference, right?
you take a linebacker in the first or second round,
there's immense pressure on that player to perform immediately,
especially on a top five defense,
but you take a guy at a position of need like this
with the last pick in the draft,
all of a sudden,
that pressure has completely disappeared,
not that there's no pressure on Red Murdoch,
but in terms of his draft status,
everything is all now about how much can he overachieve,
not simply will he overachieve,
but to what degree will he overachieve?
the Broncos have a couple of guys out there.
Alex Singleton, undrafted player, played in Canada for a bit,
got his shot in NFL on special teams,
got his shot in Denver,
quite frankly, on special teams,
and became a starter.
Justin Sternad was supposed to come in as a third down coverage linebacker out of
Wake Forest, fifth or sixth round pick,
and was ready to contribute,
gets hurt,
becomes an afterthought,
becomes somebody that nobody really considered,
he's going to start for the first time this year.
So there's no immediate timeline for these guys to become what I think the expectation is if you're a first round pick or a second round pick at the linebacker position.
And I can't wait for Red Murdoch to get some reps at training camp.
As we know, Singleton's probably going to get some days off.
Sternad probably going to get some days off.
And even if they don't take days off, the Broncos will say, hey, we want to rotate this guy in.
We've seen that many times through the years.
And I think he's going to have to earn his way up with Jordan Turner, other guys that have seniority.
but I think Red Murdoch is going to be linebacker three for the Broncos this year.
And I love that he has the opportunity as Mr. Irrelevant to really just everything from this point on,
you're the last pick in the draft.
Everything that you do is exceeding expectations.
I think right now if I had to give an early stock report on the Broncos inside linebacker room and the depth there
and how I think it will play out based on what I've seen right now.
Ultimately, once again, these are just from rookie minicamp, OTAs mandatory minicamp,
no pads. Training camp will be where we really heavily weigh this and see like we test it.
Like this is the hypothesis right now. Now we got to go through and test it in training
camp and preseason to really see is this the order in which it truly is.
Right now I would say you've got Singleton Sternab. The unquestioned starters, they're going to be
the bulk share snap guys this upcoming season. Red Mardock has that third guy.
Jordan Turner is that fourth. And Tori in York, the undrafted rookie free agent who's a little
undersized, he's going to be that fifth guy.
If I had to go through based on the stock report right now,
and that's nothing against Corrine.
Reed or Lavel Bailey,
I'm saying that these guys are flashing a lot more right now than those other guys.
But that could all change when you put the pads on at Trinity Camp.
We could see Lavel Bailey all of a sudden just look more comfortable, right?
And do more things, make more plays.
But it's just hard to ignore the hype around Red Murdoch.
It's hard to ignore the hype around Jordan Turner,
who seemingly looks like one of the favorite guys of Darren Rizzy.
especially as they look to upgrade their special teams unit
and try to keep it as one of the best units in the league.
And these guys, Red, Tori and York,
these guys will have to play special teams,
and they seem ready for it.
And once again,
Karené Reed can.
He made the 53 last year.
Lavel Bailey made the 53 two years ago,
but these guys haven't necessarily gotten the snaps that you want to see.
I think these other guys can overtake them.
And it's going to be a very fun competition to watch play out in July.
Well, here's the thing.
As prospects, like Red Murdoch and Tori and York are way above where any of those other guys were at coming out of college.
That's just the reality.
And that, I mean, obviously those guys have experience in the defense.
They've already proven they can make an NFL roster.
But here's the thing also.
The Broncos have needed help at linebacker over the last three years.
They have had to bring in guys like, remember when they brought in Joe Schobert?
I mean, they brought in Zach Cunningham.
They brought in Kwan Alexander.
They've brought in so many different players to try and help this linebacker group with these guys on the team.
Lavelle Bailey and you mentioned Karen A. Reed.
I mean, Jordan Turner last year was a rookie.
So he's, I mean, obviously his stock is up like you mentioned.
And he hasn't really gotten that same chance.
But those other guys to me have.
Those other guys have had the opportunity as relatively high priced UDFA pickups to come in and say,
hey, there's an opportunity.
Go take it.
and they haven't been able to do that.
So to me, it's like, okay, yeah, they still have a chance when the pads come on.
But also, to me, their time has kind of passed.
And it's like, all right, there's, you've now had your window of opportunity.
Now we're moving towards the guy that we drafted and the guy that we gave one of the highest
guarantee, the highest guarantee of an ungrrafted free agent ever for Tori and York.
So the Bronx, and that's for the Broncos, not for NFL history, just for the Broncos history.
But I just think that's where we're headed right now,
as you've invested in guys that you say,
hey, these guys can play special teams,
but they're much better prospects at linebacker than the other players were
and much more refined in their skill set coming out.
I do know that Tori and York had a draftable grade on him by the Broncos.
He was one of those players.
They felt like they could use a draft pick on.
They were able and fortunate to get him in UDFA.
I know we're a good friend, even Trevor Sycamma.
I even had him as his LB1 at one point going into it,
because he played on that Texas A&M defense, even though he's underside.
This dude does not play undersized.
He's smart, instinctual.
Now, ultimately, at the NFL level, how does that impact you?
It's different at the college level.
The NFL, there's a lot more size and it's a lot faster, a little bit more physical.
But Torian also seems like the type of guy who thrives to be the underdog.
And that's one thing that he said as well coming out of rookie minicamp is,
I beat the odds so many times.
I'm going to do it again.
I'm going to make the, I'm going to be an undrafted guy that makes the roster.
And Denver's historic tradition of being able to do that,
Torian's the type of guy where I'm watching he and Red Murdoch play together during practice.
And I know when we get to training camp, we're going to see that duo together.
I know in the preseason, maybe in the late second quarter, early third quarter,
you're going to see Tori and York, Red Murdoch playing linebacker alongside one another.
And that will tell us, I think, everything that we need to know,
especially if they perform well to say, hey, there's no chance the Broncos aren't bringing these guys forward.
That's an early prediction right now based on what I've seen, certainly, in Broncos country.
You know, Sarah and I, we're going to have you covered every step of the way here on Locked on Broncos.
