The Denver Broncos clip the wings of the Philadelphia Eagles and a stutter on the road here.
And we 5 will break down the Broncos big time victory here on today's episode, Locked on Broncos.
You are locked on Broncos.
Your daily Denver Broncos podcast, part of the Locked on podcast network, your team every day.
Take these broken wings and learn to fly again.
Not today.
The Denver Broncos said that late in the fourth quarter as they scored 18 straight points to rally
against the Philadelphia Eagles.
And you get all that action on today's brand new episode.
Locked on Broncos, part of the Locked on podcast network, your team every day.
Thank you so much to all the everydayers out there in.
And Broncos country, thanks for tuning in and making us your first listen.
However, you choose to do so, win, loss, draw, or comebacks like we saw on Sunday.
That's exactly why we watch the game here.
I'm Cody Rourke.
Broncos reporter from Mile High Sports.
joined, as always, by Sarah Bedinger, site expert at predominantly orange.com.
And today's episode is brought to you by our friends over there.
at Mazda. Like our players, we sweat every detail because when you make every move count like the
Broncos did on Sunday. Pulling off the unexpected is only the beginning. Stay tuned later for highlights
in this week's moving the game forward. Mazda move and be moved. The Broncos and Bo Nix, we're going to
break down them going on the road and shaking off a rough three quarters of play to stun the Philadelphia
Eagles on the road. upsetting the defending Super Bowl champions. Then we'll go through and talk about
how Nick Benito, Zach Allen, how they left their mark on this game here for the Broncos defensively,
who made some adjustments after getting down 17 to 3
and also hand out some of our game balls,
including an impressive one to one of the Broncos,
young rookies from this year's draft class.
You get all that on today's episode of the show.
Ser, what a game, what a victory,
what a whirlwind of emotions here.
It really felt like when the Broncos were down 17 to 3
and how the offense was playing
and how the defense was playing for a good portion of this game,
I think it was easy for us to just sit back there.
I know I was guilty of it myself to say,
we haven't seen this team clawed their way out of a deficit like this.
We haven't seen them compete like this in this situation.
Wow, did they prove us wrong in the fourth quarter?
Cody, I just got to I just got to applaud.
I mean, this is everything that we have asked for from top to bottom, right?
We're talking about winning a close game against a great team.
We're talking about Bo Nix having a signature moment against a great team.
Sean Payton calling the game of his life.
Evan Agram stepping up in this game.
Cortland Sutton making clutch plays against a guy who has barely given up anything this entire season.
I mean, we run down the list of things that needed to go right in order to win this game.
I bet you if we pull up our keys to victory here in this game, Cody,
every single one of them was pretty much hit in this game because the Broncos,
I think a lot of folks want to say you have 12 penalties in the game.
It's not a pretty win.
Cody, this is the prettiest win I can remember seeing in a long time because the Denver Broncos,
You didn't just go boat race some team.
You went into the Philadelphia Eagles house and you kicked them out and you sat on their couch and you kicked your shoes off wherever you want to, not even at the front door.
You kicked your own shoes off wherever you want and you put your foot up on their, you know, their coffee table or whatever.
And you took the remote away from the owner of the house and you said, screw you.
This is my TV now.
And you did the thing against you did what the Eagles do to everybody else against the Philadelphia Eagles at their own house.
I was like, dude, I'm fired up about this type win right now because I'm with you.
I'm sitting there at 17 to 3 in this game and I'm saying to myself, man, this is the same
bull crap that we've seen.
We saw this against the, we saw this same story against the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs.
We saw this against the Baltimore Ravens last year, right?
We've seen this story before.
And even if the Broncos do make noise, well, we've seen them pee too many of these leads down
their leg or we've seen them ruin it in the fourth quarter with a player to, this is the
signature moment, in my opinion, for Sean Peyton and Bo Nix.
I love the analogy he made about someone just coming to your house, making sandwiches,
kicking their feet up.
It's like, Brumann from the fifth floor.
If you ever saw the TV show, Bartman was always coming.
He's like, what are you doing?
He's like making a sandwich.
That's what the Broncos did in the fourth quarter against his Philadelphia Eagles team.
And look, it was Sarah, like being honest, like we were having some tweets.
I'm probably going to be a candidate for freezing cold takes exposed because at one point
during the game I called the offense Hackett-esque.
It really felt like that.
They couldn't get anything going.
And it was because of negative plays, right?
And it started with, you know, Bo Nix overthrowing Trent Shurfield on one play,
then getting sacked for 13 yards.
And then it just led to a negative snowball to Denver's defense.
But I'll say this, Bo Nix showed Mockshy.
Like to go into halftime throwing 10 of 21 for 79 yards, it was rough.
And then the Broncos, they come out and they allow a score to open up the third quarter.
You're down 17 to 3.
Bo Nicks in the second half was 14 of 18 passing to finish the game over 160-something yards in a touchdown.
But what was impressive in the fourth quarter when it mattered most, he was nine of ten passing.
And seven of the, I mean, four of those passes went to Cortland Sutton, four catches for 76 yards in the fourth for Sutton.
This was big time football.
This was Bo Nicks shaking off that rough start saying it's not about how you start.
It's about how you finished.
I was impressed with his poise and his moxie.
Not only did he do a great job, but my goodness, we saw different catalysts contributing to this, starting with J.K.
Dobbins, who I always liked the death by a thousand paper cuts analogy, right?
And maybe this just because an Oregon Ducks fan.
We just saw Dan Lannning do this against Penn State.
But J.K. Dobbins had some runs throughout that game.
Even with Denver trailing, it's like, all right, that's a cut.
That's a cut.
Now, eventually you're going to cut and it's going to cut deep.
And then everything else opened up here for the Broncos.
Dobbins punches it in.
It cuts to deficit 17 to 10.
Has a couple of runs, has a catch that moves the chains a little bit.
And then I already mentioned Cortland Sutton, big, big second half for him.
But my goodness, Sarah, we finally saw Evan Ingram break out and be used in the way in which we said,
hey, where has this been all year?
This was a great confidence booster.
I feel like for Evan, what a game from Sean Payton here after.
I called them out on Twitter.
And I said, the offense is abysmal.
It's ugly.
Defenses don't respect it.
Wow.
A lot of crow in that fourth quarter through three quarters of play.
It was brutal.
And they found a way to shake it off.
That's, that's impressive.
That's hard to do.
It is.
I'm really glad you made the death by a thousand paper cuts analogy there, Cody, because
that was a Vic Fangio thing.
And it's ironic that the Broncos were able.
to come into Vic Fangio's house,
one of the most dominating defenses in the league,
and you're able to beat these guys at their own game.
I mean, I just absolutely love every aspect of it.
And great call-out as well on Sean Peyton coaching the best game that we've seen from him,
because in order to pull a team out of a hole like that,
you have to have a great head coach.
You have to have somebody who knows what he's doing,
game management, a staff full of people that know what they're doing.
And you can't give up.
Like you, when you're down 17 to 3, it's easy for teams to just be like, all right, you know what, like these, these guys are, these guys are killing us.
Like there's nothing we can do about it at this point.
And then you have that one drive, like you said, where J.K. Dobbins really gets things going.
He caps it off with the touchdown run.
And then you have the point in the game where the defense puts the ball back in Bo Nix's hands.
And how many times this season or last season did we see Bo Nix get the ball in a similar situation and the offense either go three?
and out or, you know, it just wasn't there.
It wasn't there for them.
Or they had a decent drive going and they got pushed back into field goal range and they
had to settle for three.
Like, no, you're down by seven on the road against a Vic Fangio defense against a team
that's won 20 straight games.
And you didn't just get set.
You didn't just put points on the board.
You didn't just put even six points on the board.
You put eight points on the board when you're down by seven in the fourth quarter of a game
like that.
I mean, this is exactly what we've needed to see.
from Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos offense,
they delivered in the clutch moments like you mentioned.
And I can't help but feel amazing about it.
Well, and the time of possession battle two late down the stretch.
That was key here, Sarah.
The Broncos final three possessions that were scoring drives.
10 plays 67, I mean, 64 yards.
It took 427 off the game clock.
A, the one where Evan Ingram caught the touchdown past Troy Franklin
caught the two point conversion.
Six plays, 72 yards, three minutes and 32 seconds taken off.
And then that last one, which obviously ended in Will Lutz,
kicking the field goal to make it 21 to 17.
11 plays, 50 yards, 3.49 taken off the clock.
I thought obviously, you know, the factoring in the timeout situation there from
Philadelphia, that if they didn't have timeouts, that number would have been bigger.
Denver took control in moments where I think you and I, I think everyone in Broncos country
as well, I think has been skeptical.
Like, can they do it?
They showed us that they can do it.
This right here, that close game narrative, it finally comes to a screeching halt here, right?
And obviously shake off to two losses you had early on.
the season. This is the biggest win of Sean Payton and Bo Nix's career so far. Look, Sean
Peyton's win against Buffalo Monday night football. I felt like that was the biggest win so
far. But then now I think we look to where he's at now. This is by far the biggest statement
win because three or two feels a whole lot better than two and three. A hundred percent.
I mean, going into this game against the Jets, I was having conversations with other people, too,
saying like, look, we kind of penciled this game in as a loss. When we're talking about the
schedule release, when we're making our season,
We're going game by game.
You look at this game in Philadelphia, and you're kind of just like okay with it.
You're kind of just okay with saying, hey, pencil that one in as a loss.
You'll figure out a way to 11 or 12 wins some other way.
But then obviously game week comes and the optimism is flowing.
And, you know, the team's two and two.
You lost a couple of games that you probably should have found a way to win.
And now it just feels like it means a little bit more.
I'm so grateful that the Broncos came into this.
and had no sort of give up mentality whatsoever.
Like myself,
you said it.
I said it.
I was texting people.
I didn't put anything on Twitter because Twitter is a scary place to be
during a football game.
But even my text messages,
even my direct messages on Slack are a scary place to be during the game.
And you're just kind of saying like,
you know what?
You lose on the road to an NFC team.
Big deal.
The Broncos are sitting there like,
hey,
we got a little something up our sleeve here.
And it's not like they saved the best for last, Cody.
They just found a way.
way to fight back. That's what I love. This wasn't like a Tebow game. This was a find a way to
fight back game. And the Broncos, this is a turning point for them, big time. What do we say in
our Friday episode? Can the Broncos land a heavyweight punch against the Philadelphia Eagles?
They deliver that below and down goes the defending Super Bowl champions. What a win for the Broncos.
Broncos country, this might be the biggest win in the last 10 years of this Broncos franchise.
Where do you rank this? Well, make sure you let's know here on today's episode of the show.
but Broncos country, Denver couldn't have done it without some of the adjustments made defensively.
And Nick Benito and Zach Allen's big time performances on the defensive side of the ball will highlight the Broncos defense against the Eagles here on today's episode, Lockdown Broncos.
Today's episode, Lockdown Broncos is brought to my friends over there at Square.
Your favorite neighborhood spots, they run on Square and there are certain businesses that make the neighborhood, the neighborhood.
These are the places that become an extension of home.

These businesses are what bring people together.
And when neighborhood businesses thrive, the whole neighborhood thrives.
Shake Shack is that spot here in Denver.

the best fries.
Shake Shack, they always deliver.

But before you do, go support your favorite neighbor.
spot, including a shake-shack burger after a Broncos win.
You'll be happy you did.
Square.
See you in the neighborhood.
This episode is also brought to you by Mazda's moving the game forward.
For those who believe it's not just about playing the game, it's about redefining it.
There are moments that do more than put points on the board.
They move crowds, move culture, and keep moving the game forward.
For the Broncos, they move the game forward in Sunday's game against the Eagles rallying,
scoring 18 straight points unanswered against the defending Super Bowl champions.
And this week's spotlight is going to be on Bow Nix and the Bronx.
Bronco's offense shaking off a rough start in the first half that saw him go 10 of 21 passing.
But he finished the afternoon 14 of 18 in the second half, 9 of 10 in the fourth quarter to help the Broncos deliver a big time strike to the Philadelphia Eagles.
And when you follow up moves you, the unexpected is only the beginning.
And just like there's more to every highlight.
There's more to a Mazda vehicle.
Mazda, move and be moved.
AJ Brown got his targets finally.
But you know what?
Who cares?
Because Nick Benito had two and a half sacks.
and Zach Allen had three quarterback hits.
The Broncos past rushers, they got after Jalen Hertz to the tune of six total sacks in this game.
And you know what?
Eagles fans are going to have to deal with probably an unhappy receiver out there for another week.
But Broncos country, man, how about this defensive player of the year candidate that's coming through Nick Benito through the first five weeks of this season?
Cody, I'm giving him the award right now if I can.
But really quickly want to say thank you to all of the listeners of the show.
It's a victory day here for the Denver Broncos.
And like Cody said, this may be the biggest win of the last 10 years.
Well, a big reason why the Broncos got the dub was obviously their defense in this game,
which was absolutely awesome in the second half.
The Philadelphia Eagles barely got anything going until it was crunch time.
Really, right, Cody?
When you saw them trying to move the ball down the field for what was,
what ultimately amounted to a shorter Hail Mary sort of thing,
I kind of thought it was ironic to see A.J. Brown fighting Devante Smith for the ball there on that Hail Mary.
as it landed harmlessly on the ground ultimately.
But the story for the Denver Broncos defense in this game,
it's got to be Nick Benito and Zach Allen,
those guys bringing the heat all day long
and combining for a total of three sacks.
Yeah, I mean, they came up big here too.
And the first half as we were talking about,
I mean, the Broncos defense outside of really two plays in this game
did a pretty good job, right?
We talk about some of the negative snowball plays that happened early on
in that second quarter after Bo Nix was sacked.
Well, it led to the Broncos.
giving up a 52-yard pass.
Rodley Moss got burnt by Devante Smith
down field for a 52-plus-yard gain
on 3rd and 17. And then there was
a pass interference call that put them down on the 1-yard line.
Then the Eagles, that's what got them up.
10-3 going in a halftime. But really,
in the first half, the Broncos defense held
that Eagles offense to 2 of 7
on 3rd downst. So you eliminate
that explosive play. Maybe the
Broncos are in a better situation in this game
versus half in a rally. But you know what?
We'll take the rally. We'll take the comeback here.
I'll say one thing. Zach Allen stood
out in a big way because I know last week, even on Twitter, I know you put something out there
on Twitter, you got a bunch of flack for it, just asking about Zach Allen.
Zach's presence in this game, I think, was felt because he's fighting double team,
triple team blocks on the interior, as we've seen defense, I mean, opposing offenses,
allocate resources towards chipping him, which allow guys like Nick Benito, Jonathan Cooper,
and these other guys to come home.
But for Zach Allen, I mean, this was, I think, his best overall game, according to our
friends over their NFL next gen stats, Zach Allen had five pressures here.
against the Eagles in today's game.
And this is, I think, the interesting stack.
You mentioned the statistics in terms of the Broncos getting after Hertz.
10 of 14 pressures and 5 with the Broncos,
six total sacks on Hertz today were generated with four or fewer pass rushers.
Once again, carrying over a similar game plan that the Broncos took on Monday night football
against the Cincinnati Bengals.
I absolutely loved it.
I really did.
I was watching it unfold.
And at times you were kind of frustrated because you're saying,
hey, like you're not necessarily getting home with four enough.
And the Eagles are kind of able to do whatever they want,
like that third and 17 play that Jalen Hertz converted to Devante Smith against Riley
Moss, you're sitting there kind of thinking like, hey,
might have been nice to send somebody.
I mean, you know, at least make him think about it for a split second instead of just
letting him rear back and throw it as far as he can.
I was a little frustrated at times, but obviously it culminates over the course of a game.
Like that death by a thousand paper cuts really comes back into play in this regard because you're letting your best players make the biggest plays when it matters the most.
And I think the proof is in the pudding, Cody.
The Eagles were two of 11 on third downs in this game.
And I know that they struggled coming into this game in terms of three outs, in terms of offensive efficiency.
But the Broncos job was to make sure that they weren't the reason they got back on track.
Right.
And so when you're rushing for guys, you have the dogs up front to be able to go make those.
plays. And when the Broncos did choose to blitz, they were effective. Like, Alex Singleton had a really
nice blitz at one point in this game through Jaylon off his spot. Jaylon, excuse me,
Jayquan Macmillan had a sack in this game. I thought, I thought for sure he's getting that ball
out. Somebody's going to get the ball out one of these times, Cody, when they get there because
they're getting really close. I thought Brandon Jones had a great blitz that, man, he almost got
home for what could have been a strip sack as well. He was maybe a half second away. So the blitzing,
while less than we've gotten used to under Vance Joseph,
it seems like it's maybe more effective than ever.
Well, and Hufanga almost had a potential pick six.
And then on the following play, Benito got one of his sacks in this game here.
I think that put him at one and a half overall on the day was that one specifically.
But that was kind of the catalyst, the J. Mack, you know,
the Hufonganir pick six, the Benito sack.
And it was all just culminated by Denver, I think being better and adjusting on those early downs.
And, you know, they tried to go to AJ Brown.
As you mentioned, they targeted him.
They did a lot of the quick game stuff by creating some pick route concepts, some quick slant
routes inside there trying to work against Pat Sertan here.
And I think the Broncos all day, if they could eliminate those big explosives, they're
okay with giving up that short stuff.
As we have seen, they are the number one NFL red zone defense.
And the Eagles got into the red zone early on in this game, too, and Denver held firm,
which is something you want to see and you like to see from this group here.
I think you just take away those explosives that Denver gave up, obviously the one coming
out of the third quarter.
And that's really what felt like to me, Sarah, and I'll be honest.
And I don't know, I don't want to speak for everyone in Broncos country,
but it felt like after Sequan scored on that Will Route touchdown on the double
move against Alex Singleton, to me, I was thinking right there,
I was like, gosh, that's the dagger.
How is this offense with how they were playing?
How are they going to come back?
And, you know, the offense against some drives.
But, I mean, they kept punting the football away too a little bit in that third quarter.
But it was the defense adjusting a little bit, settling down saying, hey, okay, we got this.
And certainly they afforded Knicks and that offense, the opportunity to go down there.
and ultimately score on three straight possessions to end the game.
That was big.
That was complimentary football that was being played.
And I don't even say special teams as well.
I felt like Will Lutz in the kickoff game.
Jeremy,
cross on the field flipping game.
This was,
I think in the second half,
the Bronco's best element of complimentary football that we have seen in a lot of years.
We haven't seen it consistently.
That's why I say,
Cody,
I think this is a pretty win.
I think it's as pretty as it gets.
I think it's beautiful from all vantage points,
right?
obviously special teams did their job in this game.
Jeremy Croshaw was outstanding.
I was afraid that we were going to be only talking about him on the post game show there for a bit
because he had what seven punts for like almost 400 yards or something crazy.
But he played great in this game.
And that gives your team a chance to win.
When you're going up against an offense that struggles to move the ball effectively and efficiently,
like the Eagles have been this season, quite frankly,
that gives your defense a chance to do what it does best and get the ball back to your
offense with a shorter field.
And so that was helpful.
That was huge in this game for the Broncos.
You're playing complimentary football.
You had your quarterback making clutch plays.
Your best pass rushers came through with a combined six quarterback hits and three sacks in this game,
meaning obviously who we're talking about highlighting in the show, Nick Benito and Zach Allen,
your guys came through for you.
Evan Ingram came through for you.
Cortland Sutton came through for you.
All these guys made plays when it mattered most.
Sean Payton managing the game well in terms of that last drive that ultimately
Cody, did anyone else have shades of that Bengals game when you're thinking like, hey,
they're going to go for two here.
This is like a direct callback to that moment against the Bengals where Sean Payton felt like
maybe he regretted that after the fact.
I just feel like this is pretty as it gets.
Gutsy.
This is beautiful football to me.
I don't care about 12 penalties right now.
I don't care about the missed deep shot.
I don't care about the dropped pass.
I don't care about X, Y, Z.
You can put anything in that blank.
You don't care about that stuff.
when your biggest and best players came through in the clutch to win a game on the road on a short week against the reigning Super Bowl champions in their house in front of their fans when nobody expected you to win.
That is the definition of a pretty win if I've ever seen one.
Mike drop right there, Sarah.
I couldn't have said it better myself.
Broncos country, how are you feeling about the Broncos defensive performance?
What are some of your biggest concerns?
Some of those alleviate as the game went on.
And what are your thoughts on the Broncos D coming up big late when it matter?
and holding the Eagles to an inefficient production on third down.
They didn't convert a single third down in the second half against this Broncos team.
That right there is big.
Vance Joseph,
no,
he had a big time game,
I think,
as a play caller as well?
We're going to hand out our game balls.
Is Vance Joseph going to receive one?
We'll go through that more here on today's episode,
locked on Broncos.

Sarah, this is one of my favorite parts about a victory, right?

We should get one to Broncos country.
I think they traveled well to Philadelphia here in this.
situation here. But if we're going to start up from players in this game, who we handing one out to
and why. Well, I got to give one to Evan Ingram, Cody, because finally we saw Evan come through
with not just, not just catches that went for big gains. Like that was, I would have been fine with that
coming out of this game. We get Evan going a little bit. No, he made clutch plays in this game. He had
the really nice play on a throw from Bo Nix that was put where only Evan could get it. And guess what?
Evan got it. And he made the play for his quarterback. And then he had the touchdown. The, the
that ultimately led to the game winning play to Troy Franklin, but that's not possible unless
Evan Ingram does the job, right? So we saw Evan finally kind of break through in his role for
the Denver Broncos. And Sean Payton said after the game, but he got a little upset at Evan at
half time. And Evan got upset at him. And he's like, that was good for us both. So I'm interested
to hear more about that story as well. But look, with Evan Ingram, you got to give him a game ball
because of the clutch plays that he made when they mattered most.
I mean, that was an incredible adjustment he made too, right?
He high pointed it, spun around.
That was a highlight worthy player that kept the Broncos drive alive,
kept their hopes alive in this game.
As we all know, they scored 18 unanswered to stun the Philadelphia Eagles.
I like that you gave Evan a game ball here.
I'm going to give one here.
This is going to be interesting one because we didn't talk about him at all in this game.
I feel like he deserves a game ball because he made a couple of big plays
on that final Eagles offensive drive here.
I'm going to give one to Jaade Baron,
and the Broncos rookie cornerback.
Not only did he have a great run coming up
and hitting Sequin Barkley,
keeping him in bounds on that play,
but then he had a pass break up across the middle against Dallas
Goddard.
It felt like he played that right from a technique standpoint,
despite being undersized.
We haven't seen a large workload for him overall
when you talk about the sample size,
but I feel like the minutes that Jaude has played this year,
including in this game here,
the biggest win of the season,
the biggest win in the last 10 years,
man, it's worth highlighting.
Yeah, I really loved that, Cody.
I was a little salty.
I'm not going to lie to you on.
I think it was Sunday morning or Saturday night.
I posted a little something in our Slack chat.
And I'm like, you know who hasn't done really much of anything so far this season?
Our first round pick.
And you know what?
He did something big against the Philadelphia Eagles.
So love to see that in a game like this clutch play from Jada Barron.
I love that pick.
And I think, look, let's go back to the offensive side of the ball a little bit here because
these guys made some clutch plays when it mattered the most, right?
I think you and I both need to give a game ball to Bo Nix,
quarterback of the Broncos in this game.
Bo Nix started off, like you said,
not a good first half,
rough first half.
Vic Fangio kind of did his thing against this Denver offense,
but when you needed it the most,
your quarterback came through in the clutch.
Yeah, and like I said,
I mean, the numbers,
you go through to what he did in the second half,
14 of 18 passing,
162 yards, a touchdown there,
efficient, protected the football,
didn't put it into harm's way,
nine of ten passing in the fourth quarter that helped you keep your drive alive that ultimately gave you a chance to win this game.
Bo Nix delivered when the Broncos needed him to most regardless how he played in the first and the second quarter.
Nothing was working for the offense.
So yes, I agree.
I think Bo gets one.
This is a big win for him.
And look,
there was a lot of conversations going on on Twitter as the game was happening.
And a lot of people were, you know, talking about Bo.
Look, and I said, you know, Bo has some struggles obviously himself.
We can all acknowledge that.
But I just felt like everything around Bo, not only some things that Bo did,
Pass protection at times was shaky.
The situations weren't necessarily great.
And there were times where Bo had a clean defender on a four-man rush in his face.
So for them to kind of just calm their nerves in the second half and go out there and just ball,
man, that's huge.
Game ball to Bo Nix.
I'm going to hand one here as well.
I mean, J.K. Dobbins, I feel like, has kind of been the energizer here for this team, Sarah,
in unspoken ways, not only as a leader in the locker room, but on the field here,
I just feel like there's these little plays that he makes that just all of a sudden give you life, right?
when you're trying to see like, hey, do they still have a pulse?
Is the heartbeat still going?
J.K. Dobbins says, yep, we're right here.
Pulse is still going and we're not going to flinch.
I feel like J.K. has been such a welcome edition so far here in this Broncos team.
His impact, I think, can't be accounted for enough.
Like when you look at the stat sheet, of course, it's going to finish off here for him,
20 carries for 79 yards.
He had a big 17-yard run, but ultimately, I think it's those little plays to fight for extra yards,
to move the chains for a first down that gave this Broncos offense.
life when they needed it. I'm going to give JK1. I love that pick. And I also think we got to end it
with Cortland Sutton as well. I mean, you're going up against Quinyon Mitchell, one of the
best corners in the game right now and somebody who's kind of dominated all season long and
dating back to last year's playoffs. I mean, Cortland went out there and Cody, he mossed him a couple
of times. So the back shoulder fade stuff. I mean, he went up over the top and he made plays and he
did exactly what you expect a top tier wide receiver to do. Now, you and I, you and I,
I talked about this before the start of the season that with with these other guys coming in giving
Cortland more opportunities in one-on-one situations.
We didn't feel like even though this is, he's already on his third contract with the Broncos now.
We still didn't feel like we've seen the best of what Cortland has to offer.
I think we're starting to see that these last few weeks.
I think we're starting to see the clutch plays.
I think we're starting to see him go up now against a true cornerback one, a potential top
two corner in the NFL because he ain't passing Sartan, but I think Sutton did what he needed to do against
one of the best corners in the game to prove that, hey, I'm not just a wide receiver one when I'm
wide open. I'm not just a wide receiver one when, you know, a couple of big plays over the course of a
season. I'll disappear for a little bit here and there. No, he's been dominating the last
handful of weeks now. And so going up against a corner like this, man, Sutton, 99 yards receiving
on 10 targets, eight catches. That's what you want to see from a guy who's got to
the label of wide receiver one for your roster.
Yeah. Easy button, son. That's the nickname we give him over here at Locked on Broncos here.
And one final game, well, we're going to give it to Nick Benito, two and a half sacks on this
day, you know, week five. You're already at this point now. Like Nick's performance propelled
him into the lead right now. He's the NFL sack leader with seven on the year. Sarah,
Von Miller holds the record back in 2012 at 18 and a half sacks. And for Nick to be at this pace
and where he's at now, it's kind of scary. If he just averages one sack a game down the stretch,
he's going to surpass that.
Now we've seen that he can put together multi-sac games at a consistent level
and that his play, man, it's just amplifying it.
Take goodness, they took care of that contract extension because if they didn't,
you know what his price tag would be right now?
Skyrocketed.
That dude, he's right now, the firm leader I think right now in the NFL for defensive
player of the year.
Yeah, what is he at?
Seven sacks through the first five games now.
I believe he went into this game with four and a half.
He come away with two and a half more.
So, I mean, that's what we're talking about now.
We're talking about the Broncos having back-to-back defensive player of the years.
And look, I think that it's very much a possibility.
Like, who's playing better than Benito right now?
Who's dominating guys?
Like, you don't get two and a half sacks against Jordan Milata and Lane Johnson.
You don't go out and whip up on Joe Alt.
Like, nobody's doing that.
There's, I think the Eagles had allowed six sacks this season going into this game
or something like that.
I don't remember what the number was.
I think it was maybe you and I broke down the Milata had six pressures allowed or something like that.
And for Bonito to go in and have multiple sacks, two and a half.
I mean, that's crazy.
This is the guy that everyone was saying going into last season.
There's no Batman off the edge.
Nick Benito's like, I'm Batman.
He's like, I'll be Robert Pattinson Batman.
I'll be Christian Bail Batman.
I'll be Michael Keaton.
I don't care.
I'm Batman right now.
And he's proven that over the last couple of years.
I'll say this. If you love the show The Boys, Nick Benito is a huge The Boys fan. He's playing like Homelander right now. He is just a one-man wrecking crew here for this Broncos.
And Broncos, let us know your thoughts. A huge win here for this team. Make sure you drop your thoughts here down below. Thanks for making lockdown Broncos. You're first listening.
