Starting point is 00:00:00 So we've got the teams that Nolan Aranado reportedly will accept the trade to. Starting point is 00:01:04 show new customers can place a $5 bet and you'll get started with $150 in bonus bets if you win your first $5 bet. It's fandle.com to get started. Now, the Cardinals continue to shop their future Hall of Fame third baseman Nolan Aronado. And due to the no trade clause that his contract possesses, we knew that this wasn't going to be an easy deal to make. All right. You know, Nato's getting older. He's expensive. Productions. and going down. You can see why the Cardinals are okay with moving on, and you can see why other teams would be hesitant to bring him on. But it's got to be the right fit. Arnado's agent, Joe Wolfe, even said that it's not like no one will go just anywhere. And for weeks,
Starting point is 00:01:52 we've speculated on the places that would make sense for Aronado to go to. And now we've got confirmation from MLB.com's John Denton on the six teams that he has apparently approved trades to. It's like, yeah, I would be interested in going to those places and playing some baseball for that from Denton. Natto chose three spots on the West Coast, three spots on the East Coast. No Midwest, by the way, no Midwest whatsoever. So we're going to start out west, which is where Aranao was from.
Starting point is 00:02:22 So it's really no surprise that he would love to play on the West Coast. Makes a whole lot of sense. Obvious choice here, you got the Dodgers, you know. Then there's the San Diego Padres. And the surprise team, the shot. talking team to me that was included on this list was the angels. Now the Dodgers, we've talked about a ton. Problem is they seem more than happy to have Max Muncie over at third base to start the season. And to be honest, I can see why. You know, Max Muncie has been a very, when he's
Starting point is 00:02:54 healthy, has been a very productive player for them. They like him a lot, left-hand at bat. But there's a lot of reasons why Max Muncie makes sense over there for the Dodgers. And it wouldn't necessitate a trade. They wouldn't have to give up anything to go get Nato. They wouldn't have to spend the money that it would cost to pay Nato. So you can see why the Dodgers are kind of like, we don't really need them, to be honest with you. The Padres have that guy, Mani Machado. You heard of him?
Starting point is 00:03:23 Yeah, he's over there at third base for them. And then Zander Bogart's is at shortstop. Luis Arise and Jake Corenworth kind of tackled the first base and second base positions for them last year. So I'm not exactly sure where the fit is for the Padres unless they move some people around or make a deal and whatnot. We're going to get to the Padres who apparently are willing to listen on some guys. So that that's one way that that deal could get done. Both the Dodgers and Padres, you know, they make sense. They've been very successful over the recent years.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Dodgers just winning the championship. They've got the best roster in baseball. And the Padres, no slouch either. They've got an extremely talented roster led by Fernando Tatez Jr., Machado. Plus, they've got a GM who is not afraid to pull the trigger on major trades. All he wants to do is win and is willing to risk prospect after prospect to get them to the promised land. He's made moods for Juan Soto when Dylan Cese and a rise and Tanner Scott last year. Plus, you've got former Cardinals manager Mike Schilt in San Diego there.
Starting point is 00:04:29 So you can see why that would be a comfortable fit for Nolan Aronado. And then you've got the Angels, a franchise that has continuously made mistake after mistake, after mistake, with their roster construction. They've, in a way, kind of wasted the career of Mike Trout. You know, imagine all the years that Albert Poolhole. was in St. Louis and doing the things that he was doing for that decade run and them not winning anything ever. Imagine if that's how it went in St. Louis. You'd be like, that's a really waste of talent. That's kind of what's happened with the Angels. They haven't won anything. And they had Mike Trout and Joe Hay Otani together and didn't win squat. And then they let Otani just walk away without
Starting point is 00:05:22 getting anything for him. They end up signing Albert Boo holes to that mega deal to get him out of St. Louis won nothing while Albert was there. That didn't work. They made stupid trades for guys like Vernon Wells, bad signings, Justin Upton, the Josh Hamilton deal, just bad stuff. And then you got the to topper, which it's got to be the Anthony Rendon deal, right? Seven years, $245 million contract they gave Rendon back in 2019 in five years since. signing that deal, he is hitting 242 with a grand total of 22 home runs. Not 22 home runs in one year. Over the whole time, 22 home runs has only played in 257 games, has never played more than 58 games in a season since signing with them, and is going to make $38 million this year.
Starting point is 00:06:13 And still has another year to go on the deal after 2025. Just brutal. So if there is a franchise, that you perhaps could take advantage of. The angels come to mind. Is somebody that, yeah, we'll do something. So take advantage of if you can. They've already grabbed a handful of veterans. You say Kikuchi, Kyle Hendrix, Travis Darno,
Starting point is 00:06:40 Horace of Lair. So if the goal is to collect a bunch of veterans to surround what's left of Mike Trout, then Nolan Aronada makes a lot of sense for the angels, doesn't he? But why would he want to go there? Obviously, playing in L.A., that's where he's right? I get that. But is it all that important that's what you would want to do?
Starting point is 00:07:04 That would shock me. It shocked me, but I saw that name on the West. I was like, the Angels? Why would you want to go there? But if he wants to play on the West Coast that bad, take what you can get, right? So if one L.A. team, a.k.k.a. the Dodgers doesn't want you. Hey, we'll go to the other one, I guess.
Starting point is 00:07:22 So any of whom, East Coast teams consist of three teams who most certainly have World Series aspirations next year. But one team that is located on the East Coast is missing from this group. And it was a little surprising to me. So we're going to talk about that next coming up on Lockdown Cardinals. Get ready to tackle the NFL action with Fandall, America's number one sports book.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Right now, new customers can bet $5, just $5. And get 150 in both. bonus bets if you win. Now, the Fandall Sportsbook app is going to give you everything you need to play slide bets on the NFL and it's all in one place. Thursday night football tonight, West Coast game. So Aranaano's going to be watching for sure. Rams, 49ers tonight in San Francisco. Last time I checked Rams were a three-point favorite. They've been kind of lighten up the scoreboard. If you're a fantasy football guy, you've kind of been enjoying what the Rams have done recently with a healthy wide receiver core of Fukunakua, Cooper Cup,
Starting point is 00:08:21 Kyrid Williams has been very good of running back. Matthew Stafford looks healthy and looks rejuvenated. So the Rams kind of sneaky right now in the NFC West. The Niners have been beat up all year. The injury after injury have hardly had Christian McCaffrey this year. Brock Purdy has missed some time. Brandon Ayuk is out. Devo Samuel hasn't been involved recently.
Starting point is 00:08:45 But they're still six and seven, which just shows you how good their coaching is and how good their depth has been for them. year. I would keep an eye on Debo Samuel and his touches for tonight's game. Recently deleted a post about not getting the ball. So usually when something like that happens with one of your start players, they kind of force feed him a little bit, get him more involved. So something I'd keep an eye on tonight. So when you get a hunch in the middle of the game, maybe Debo gets a couple touches early on. You're like, uh-oh, maybe you ought to, you know, follow that hunch a little bit. You can check out the latest stats of you live, play by play and so much more on the same page where you place your bet. It's very convenient. as Fandall.com to join today. Starting point is 00:09:41 Thanks for making a lot on Cardinals, your first list in every day. You can leave your comments on YouTube as well as on Twitter X. Anytime you want your feedback is always welcome and encouraged. We've covered the three West Coast teams that Aranano has reportedly approved deals to, or at least has approved the Cardinals to go explore to us with these teams. Okay, courtesy of John Denton at MLB.com. Now we turn our attention to the East Coast where Arnada reportedly is willing to wave as no trade clause to go to three franchises that are most certainly in the running
Starting point is 00:10:16 for a World Series championship this year, Philadelphia Phillies, the New York Mets, and the Boston Red Sox. Now, we've talked about these teams a lot already. are, you know, they're looking for this roster shakeup. They made their current third baseman, Alec Fombe, available via trade. Nato would be an excellent fit with the Phillies, with all their stars and all their firepower on offense. I mean, Bryce Harper, T. Turner, Kyle Schwabre.
Starting point is 00:10:43 J.T. Real Muto. Nick Casiano's, if he's still there. Nato would just be a piece of the puzzle instead of having to be like that main cog, that three, four guy that, you know, that they're just, you know, riding with the whole time or they're like, dude, you need to do this or we're screwed. It wouldn't be that situation at all. I like that fit a lot for Arnado and Philadelphia. The Red Sox didn't have a good year this past year, but dealt with a lot of injuries and stuff.
Starting point is 00:11:11 And obviously, they're making moves. They've got the baby-faced assassin. Rafael Devers down there at third base, best hitter on the team, terrible on defense, but he could become just a DH or a place in first base where they also have Tristan Kossis there. there's been rumors about maybe Boston would shop him. They just made a deal to shore up their pitching by getting here at Crochet from the White Sox, so they're not screwing around. They did lose former Cardinal Tyler O'Neill to the Baltimore Orioles in free agency.
Starting point is 00:11:39 And as I've said before, I think Nolan Aronado and the Green Monster would get along quite nicely. I just feel like that would be a really nice fit for Aronado and what he does offensively. Clearly, I'm not worried about his defense. It's very, very good there. So if the socks wanted to bring him in, I think they would enjoy him. I think he would do quite well in Boston. Now, the New York Mets, they just signed Juan Soto to that massive 15-year, $765 million deal.
Starting point is 00:12:07 It could go up to $805 or something like that. They have not lost their first basement, Pete Alonzo, yet. As of right now, let me check the phone and see if anything new has popped up. I don't see anything yet. So as far as we know, Pete Alonzo is still a free agent. The market for the first basement hasn't really picked up just yet. It's been mostly starting pitching that has been talked about a lot outside of Soto. Some believe the Mets could still sign them, that they could be, they can talk him back and like, look, we can pay you this.
Starting point is 00:12:39 Will this do enough to team you with Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor? You know, Alonso has always said that he loves it with the Mets. Like he was never complaining about them, but obviously he wants to get his as a free. agent finally. So right now, Mark Vientos is who they have down at third base. I know Brett Beatty is the third base prospect. He's 25 now. So I don't know. It's going to poop or get off the pot when it comes to him. But as far as their depth chart goes, it's Mark Viantos down there at third base who had a very strong season offensively. So if Alonso does not return, they could move Viantos to first and have Nato with third. Obviously, we've heard that our Nato
Starting point is 00:13:23 is willing to move the first base for certain teams. Money is clearly not an issue, so you can see how this would be a fit as far as making a deal. What I was surprised about was that the New York Yankees were not on that list. I found that very interesting, especially considering the Mets are on there. So if it was like a New York problem where he just didn't want to live in New York, you wouldn't have the Mets on there. So I was a little shock to not see the New York Yankees.
Starting point is 00:13:53 on that list as well, considering they've also been a team that has been rumored to be interested in Nolan Aronado. So I'm not really sure the reasoning behind that. I haven't seen anything on it, but if you're cool for playing for one New York team, why not the other one as well, the one that's actually been a lot more successful? Or is it the fact that maybe, you know, people have grown tired of the pinstripes? You know, Soto just chose the Mets over the Yankees. that's maybe, you know, kind of the way the Cardinals have been where, you know, their shine from all of the success over the years has kind of worn off a little bit. Maybe that's something that the Yankees are going through right now,
Starting point is 00:14:32 although it didn't seem to matter when Max Fried signed the deadline. He seemed happy to go there. But the Yankees clearly have a need of third base and first base. Anthony Rizzo no longer there. They lost Soto. So obviously they would like to supplement a little more offense. If Nato doesn't want to play for them, then there's, I mean, what are you going to do? There's no use in worrying about it.
Starting point is 00:14:53 It just surprised me a little bit. The Yankees weren't one of the teams on the list. So here are some quotes from Nato's agent about the whole trade speculation and what's going on. This again, courtesy of John Denton and MLB.com. He doesn't have the ability to write it out and just be okay with losing. It's like his biological clock is ticking. And if the team's not winning, it's driving him crazy every day, every night. and all through the season, and he takes it so personal and acts like it's all on him.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Well, while in St. Louis, when the team isn't performing well offensively, the fingers are constantly pointed at Aronado, as they should be. He's the guy. He's why he's getting paid what he's getting over there. The highest paid player on the team, future Hall of Famer. He's the guy that was supposed to lead along with Paul Goldschmidt, when they both aren't performing and not just below their normal numbers because, you know, they've both been at Hall of Fame and historical rates over their career, but they're performing
Starting point is 00:15:56 below the league average. It's not like it's just, you know, a little bit less than what there. No, like less than like the average MLB player at their position is doing offensively. That's a problem. Obviously, when that happens, you're going to struggle. The fact that they won 83 games with both of them underperforming as much as they did is kind of a positive for the team itself and the organization that they were still able to win 83 games when your two top bats don't show up. It's why it's surprising that the angels are on this list, considering their lack of winning over the years and winning so important, the angels haven't won anything for a long, long time. More quotes here from his agent. The Cardinals are changing directions, which is fine, because all teams do. So if that's the way it is and they say that an Arnauto trade might be beneficial and they have been open and communicative about that, I get it. Now let's try and find a place where they are in a different place and he can jump in and help the team go to the next level.
Starting point is 00:16:56 And when I read that stuff, I think, gosh, I wish I had this kind of pool in my life. Must be nice to say what city and company gets to go to. Hey, I want to go to the best cities with the most money and the easiest chance for me to win. Yay. Like, that's the kind of pull. Aronado's got right now. And he's earned it. He's earned it. I'm not knocking it. It's just, I'm jealous as a, as a human being in the working field. Like, I wish I had that kind of, that kind of pull. Another quote here. It's more of a, would you be okay with this team?
Starting point is 00:17:27 Okay with that team. We don't want to waste Moseilocks time. There are some hard nose of where he preferred not to go. So it's been dynamic in the discussion about how it will work. And I will say one thing that, you know, I do like about this whole entire situation. It's not that I want to get rid of Nolan Aronado because I respect him. Great player. And I, but I understand the business side of it all. I love the fact that this doesn't appear to be a nasty breakup.
Starting point is 00:17:57 You know, nobody is mad at anybody. Both sides get it. You know, they're just trying to move on and do each other a solid, really. in the process. Now, again, no one can say, hey, I don't care what team I go to. You can get me out of here and that's fine. That would make life a lot easier. But he's not going to do that. Obviously, he wants to go somewhere where he has a better chance of when, except for the angels again. I don't get it. But anyway, but we've had plenty of situations you've seen in all kinds of sports where you have these nasty splits. Me as a Packers fan, you know, I've had to deal with it with Brett Favre and Aaron Rogers, you know, where there's just these nasty splits and, you know, everybody's butt hurt about everything. for the Cardinals, the Scott Rowland situation comes to mind when we're talking about third baseman where there was an issue between him and Tony LaRosa. They win a world championship together, but they didn't get along for a couple of different reasons. So a trade was forced.
Starting point is 00:18:54 It's not that like the Cardinals wanted to get rid of Scott Rowland and they had to. And it was an unfortunate situation. So that does not appear to be the case here whatsoever, which is great. I respect that that both sides are doing it this way. And, you know, they're just trying to make everybody happy at the same time, do things that benefit themselves. You know, Nata wants to go to a winner. The Cardinals want to, you know, eliminate some payroll.
Starting point is 00:19:21 They want to give guys like Nolan Gorman a better chance or more runway, as Mo called it, to get more bats and play every day. You know, they feel like they're clogged up a little bit. So they want to see if they could pull a deal. So the one thing that's really still kind of holding stuff up is the Alex Breggman, free agency. You know, he's still the cream of the crop of third basement who are available this year. So everybody's just kind of waiting on him. I've seen the tweets and stuff where it's, you know, Alex Breggman's markets heating up.
Starting point is 00:19:54 So maybe something will come down sooner rather than later. Hold on. Phone's going off. We'll see if anything new. No, no. Nothing new yet. But there has been some other movement around the league, mostly with pitchers. But we're going to jump into everything that's happened, a lot of money being thrown around,
Starting point is 00:20:13 some trades, the big one between the Red Sox. And we'll get you an update on what's going on with some of the teams in the NL Central. That's next on Locked on Cardinals. Thank you for making Locked on Cardinals your first listen today for your second listen. Find Locked on MLB baseball guru solely brings you a daily blend of humor on baseball, keeping you updated on all the teams in this office. see you send find locked on MLB on YouTube or wherever you listen to your podcasts. The Yankees lost Juan Soto, but we're able to bolster their pitching staff by landing
Starting point is 00:20:46 former brave starter Max Freed on an eight year, $218 million contract. Freed's going to be 31 in January. He's a two-time all-star, three-time gold glove winner, and helped him win a World Series in 2021, finished, was second in the Sai Young to Corbyn that year, who was also a free agent is going to make a bag after seeing what Max Freed just got. But free joins a staff in New York, led by the 2023 site young winner and Garrett Cole. They just got the 2024 AOL rookie of the year, Luis Heel in their rotation. Their big free agent signing from back in 2022, Carlos Rodon, they've got Nestor Cortez,
Starting point is 00:21:26 they've got Marcus Stroman, they got Clark Schmidt. They got starting pitchers coming out there, Ying Yang. Not too shabby, but not cheap. not cheap by any means. Next year, Cole's going to make $36 million. Estimate, okay? It's right around that amount. Rodon's going to make around 27.
Starting point is 00:21:46 If you break up Max Fried's contract, I haven't seen the details yet of like what's he going to make yearly. But if you broke it up evenly over eight years, it's around 27 million per. Luis Eel doesn't make anything yet, which is always good. But Stroman is making $18 million. Cortez makes $8. or is going to arbitration.
Starting point is 00:22:06 That's what they got them, you know, estimated at. Clark Schmitz make $5 million, $121 million in starters alone next year for the Yankees. So I would assume they're going to make a deal with somebody on this list. Probably Strowman or Cortez makes the most sense that they will trade one or two or both of them away. That's a possibility. But, you know, the Yankees are not shy. And if you're already willing to spend that much money on Juan Soto and you're willing to go to 50 million a year, I know he's special at all. But that means you are willing to spend that amount of money during the season.
Starting point is 00:22:45 So Yankees fans, I'm sure, took notice of that. And they're like, well, if you were going to spend it, keep spending it. Go get this guy. Go get Alex Bragman. Keep it coming. Get Santander. They just want you to buy everybody. So, which is they right?
Starting point is 00:22:58 If they want to do it that way, that's what they want to do. there are trivals, the Boston Red Sox made a huge splash, Garrett Crochet deal, was their answer to not getting Soto, not getting Max Fried, or Blake's now. Apparently they were trying to get all of them, and Boston so far got shut out. So they were like, nope, we'll go get Garrett Crochet. Then they swap out four prospects to land the starter from the White Sox,
Starting point is 00:23:22 catcher Kyle Teal, who was the number 25 overall prospect, outfielder Brayden Montgomery, who was number 54 overall, infielder at Chase Medroth, who was their number 11 prospect, and Wickleman Gonzalez, Boston's number 14 prospect. So they traded all of that, which is a nice little package, honestly, in exchange for the 25-year-old crochet who had that breakout season in 2024, massive numbers, 209 strikeouts, 33 walks. I mean, that's amazing. Had a 1.07 whip, average 12.
Starting point is 00:23:59 nine strikeouts per nine in his first full season as a starter in the league. I've already had the Tommy John surgery. So, you know, there was a lot of interest in Garrett Crochet. I know the Cincinnati Reds. So, you know, it was a lot of the bigger markets and then the Reds were involved there. So it's nice to see that he was not traded to anybody in the NL Central. The assumption is now that the precedent has been set for what it will take to trade for somebody of that caliber.
Starting point is 00:24:28 you might see other teams get involved in trade talks for their starting pitchers who have deals coming up like Luis Castile from the Mariners, Dylan Sees for the Padres, for Amber Valdez, from the Astros. They're all, well, not all, but those two, the last one, Cis and Valdez are arbitration eligible for the final time this winter and are set to become a free agent next off season. So you can see why their names will be brought up. Jesus Luzardo from the Marlins, got to keep them healthy. And then, of course, much lower on the totem pole, you've got Cardinals pitchers.
Starting point is 00:25:02 Eric Thetty, Miles Michael, Stephen Matt's. Not that I want to trade Sunny Gray, but it's kind of a shame that the Cardinals are going in this direction and are not going to be able to trade up because he doesn't want to be traded. No trade clause for Sunny Gray, which is fine. Glad that Sunny wants to stick around. But, you know, considering what teams are willing to pay for starting pitchers right now, it's kind of a bummer that the Cardinals couldn't test the waters. see what they could get in return to flip Sunny Gray. But it makes you wonder what Eric Feddy's worth is, right? I mean, after the comeback season last year, not expensive,
Starting point is 00:25:40 only $7.5 million in 2025. So it makes you wonder if teams will come calling for Eric Fetty at some point. The Padres, as I mentioned this earlier, reportedly listening on deals for Dylan Seas, Luis Arise, and Zander Bogartz, I have no clue. how San Diego thinks they will ever unload that Bogart's contract, which when it happened, it blew everybody away. Everybody's like, what?
Starting point is 00:26:09 You did what? And now they're like, yeah, we're listening in. You know, is anybody interested in Xander Bogartz? He's going into the third year of an 11-year, $280 million deal. That is nasty. That is nasty. If we think, we think Nolan Arnado's tough to trade, Bogart's, he's already 32 declining and has eight years left on his deal, which is crazy.
Starting point is 00:26:35 You know, Nato, oh, three measly years. And I think most people would take Nolan Aronado over Zander Bogartz at this point in their careers. I mean, good luck trying to trade that contract, San Diego. Another name on the trading block, the Astros Kyle Tucker, big name. Wednesday morning MLB Network insider, Jill Sherman reported to the New York Post that Tucker is seen more and more likely to be traded. Tucker is set to reach free agency after the 2025 season. And Sherman wrote that Juan Soto's record deal with the Mets is seen as likely to raise Tucker's asking price up to $300 million or perhaps even a $400 million payday. Astros, I guess, are listening.
Starting point is 00:27:16 They don't really want to pay that. So they're listening. Per Sherman or closer to home in the NL Central, Yankees, Cubs, Giants, and Phillies have all expressed interest in acquiring Tucker. the Cubs and Astros have discussed a possible trade involving Tucker going to Chicago and outfielders Seya Suzuki and the basement, Esauk Parades heading to Houston, that according to Ken Rosenthal, a league source told the athletic that the Cubs are highly unlikely to trade Suzuki. Instead, they would prefer to move Cody Bellinger in a separate deal, which I'm fine with. I don't want to see Kyle Tucker in Chicago either, but, you know, I've seen my fill of Cody Bellinger with the Cubs. And, you know, he seems to hit the cargo as well.
Starting point is 00:28:02 So I don't like it. The Reds were apparently, as I mentioned, one of the teams involved in talks for Garrett Crochet. They're going to be looking at other options now, according to Joel Sherman. One of them would be Nick Povetta, who is a free agent. And I keep hearing, like, the Reds involved. And, you know, they're trying for this guy. and they're trying for that guy. And I'm just like,
Starting point is 00:28:22 are any of these guys going to sign with Cincinnati if they're not going to pay what these other teams are going to pay? Or are the Reds willing to pay these prices? Like, I don't know. It's kind of shocking to me to hear them involved in some of this stuff. Like Nick Pithetta is kind of their world. Sadly, it's kind of where the Cardo's world is these days. But that's kind of what I'm used to hearing about the Reds.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Also report, this one was a weird. one about the Pirates have made pitchers Jared Jones and Mitch Keller available. Now we know they're trying to find offense. They made that deal to get Spencer Horowitz, who was dealt from the Jays to the Guardians and then to the Pirates, absolutely mash his right-handed hitting, a right-hand pitching, sorry. I guess they're just putting feelers out there just to see what kind of haul they could get for Jared Jones.
Starting point is 00:29:15 I have no idea why you would want to trade it. That would make no sense whatsoever. I mean, wouldn't you want? Keller, Jones, and Skeens is like your top three. And I don't understand that at all. But pirates are going to do what pirates do. So anyway, that's the latest that I've seen. Obviously, if there are any other updates, I'm not seeing anything else, any other updates. We'll keep you posted.
