You are Locked On Colts, your daily Indianapolis Colts podcast.
Part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day.
Hello everybody, welcome back to your latest episode of Locked On Quotes, part of the Locked On Podcast Network.
Today's always your host, Evan Cedary, joined by Stephen Reed of Stampede Blue, to do our final live mock drafts.
We were just talking about this off the air before we started, but this is a live mock draft 7.0.
Seven straight weeks for you guys of live mock drafts.
And it's finally draft week, Stephen. We're about 72 hours away here from the draft officially starting,
and probably around the close to be on the clock at. We're about 72 hours away here from the draft officially starting and probably around the Colt to be on the clock at this point,
about 72 hours away.
What's your thoughts?
I mean,
Thursday,
we're three days away from the NFL draft.
We have a lot of good stuff to cover on today's show.
Before we get into the live mock draft,
talk to us,
the latest Colt rumors we're hearing from guys like Peter King,
Daniel Jeremiah,
et cetera.
But how are you feeling,
man?
I'm doing well,
Evan.
How are you doing today?
I'm doing good.
I, I just can't believe that we're already at draft week.
It just feels like it's flown by.
It simultaneously has felt like it's flown by and crawled.
That's the funniest thing about an event like this where you've got such an anticipation.
It's one of those things where when you're in the moment, it just feels like it's
taking forever. But then you get there and you're like, wow, where did all the time go?
And that's how I feel about the NFL draft is you're like, come on, let's get here. Let's get
here. Let's get here. And then you get here and you're like, wow, that was fast. What happened?
And then in reality, we've done like seven live mock drafts now after tonight. And then
we've been talking about the draft for so long.
It's really exciting.
I'm really pumped for it.
Yeah, absolutely.
Let's go ahead and dive into the first part of our show.
Like I just mentioned, the first part of our show, the first 10 minutes or so,
we'll be covering the latest intel we're hearing from national guys around the Colts,
whether it be staying at 21, trading back.
Let's hit on the first report I saw late on Sunday evening, early Monday morning.
Peter King always puts out a football morning in America column on NBC Sports. And in his mock
draft, he actually put out the Colts trading back with the Cleveland Browns, picking up their third
round pick. And they stayed put at 26 to take Samuel Cosme. In that story, Peter King mentioned
in that Cosme blurb that he thinks the Colts are a team, from what he heard so far they think they get an immediate starter left tackle early in the second round so he thinks
they could trade back not only once but twice from 21 and accumulate and maybe another extra third or
fourth round pick in the process so to me Stephen I mean the first trade for Peter King was 21 for
26 and 91 which I think is a pretty fair trade on the value chart if they want to move back again to
the early second round,
that's probably getting another third round pick in the process.
So, I mean, in total,
the Colts could have two third round picks and really recoup that course
once trade value,
if they really wanted to go about it and move back to the 35 of 40 range.
Yeah. I mean, that's, it makes a lot of sense for the Colts to move back.
It's just such a deep draft with the positions that they really like,
especially at left tackle.
If that's their goal is to get a left tackle that they feel like
they can start early, you can get them in the late 20s, early 30s.
I mean, you might even be able to get one at 54.
And that's kind of the craziest part about this.
I think Peter King's spot on at this.
The Colts want to trade back.
You know, Chris Ballard's press conference last week talks about, you know,
getting more draft picks because you get more throws at the dark board
and more opportunities to get lucky.
And that's what we've talked about is our biggest thought is the Colts
will not be drafting at 21 when it comes on the clock.
They're going to trade back unless if for whatever reason, like a Devontae Smith falls to them at 21 or something like that.
Some crazy unforeseen scenario happens and the Colts just decide to stay put.
But beyond something crazy like that,
I think the Colts are trading back.
And I don't think that that's a,
should be a surprise to any Colts fan or any, any fan of the NFL that's been paying attention to Chris Ballard.
Yeah.
I think it's fair to say if they were to move back from 21 in that early
second round range,
they could really maybe get a second-round pick out of that,
maybe a third and a fourth, maybe a future pick in 2022.
Ian Rappaport reported today that teams are really viewing the 2022 picks
as gold mines this year because, obviously,
with the truncated process for the 2021 season with the coronavirus pandemic,
maybe teams with a full year next year could be able to really lock in on those.
So maybe not future picks, but maybe second and third round picks
could be the Colts' goal there.
And before we dive into our next report
from Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network,
I just want to get your overall thoughts, Stephen.
Let's say the Colts' hypothetical
moved back into the early second round range.
Who are some guys that make sense to you there,
especially at offense tackle,
like Peter King mentioned?
That seems like it's right in the range of guys
we've been talking about on this podcast for months now,
like Alex Leatherwood, Dylan Radunes, Liam Eikenberg, Sam
Cosme. I feel like one of those four guys is going to be a cold year by Thursday. I agree, Evan. And
I think that's probably the goal is to move back, get a couple more day two picks or get a future
pick. I think Chris Ballard's dream scenario is to drop back to early second round and then pick up an extra second round pick, an extra third round pick, and then a future second.
He's basically getting back to where he's got seven picks in the draft because he really likes to have at least that many.
In terms of the tackles that I think will be available there at the early second round range, um Sam Cosme like you said Tevin Jenkins
might might slip a little bit Dylan Radins is another guy that I think would be a perfect fit
you know and guys at 54 that I think could be available Brady Christensen is one and Walker
Little is a sleeper pick I I keep going back to the fact that he was a starter at Stanford his freshman year at left tackle.
It's not like he came in and they didn't have anybody on the roster that they felt comfortable playing at Stanford.
It's a Division I Pac-12 Power 5 conference.
They're loaded with talent.
He came in and started right away.
I think Walker Little is a sleeper guy for the Colts.
If the injury injury stuff checks out,
but the medical stuff is exactly why teams want to get those future picks
rather than necessarily load up on picks this year is because you're going to
have an opportunity to have the combine and
have all those medical checks there. You're going to have an opportunity to go to schools and have
guys in your building and you're going to have your doctors be able to evaluate players. And
this year they just didn't have that. And that's a big part of what the Colts do. So I wouldn't be
surprised to see Chris Ballard try to acquire, if not one to two extra picks for next year.
Going to our next report here from Daniel Jeremiah.
He runs the Move the Sticks podcast with Bucky Brooks over on NFL Network.
I was listening to them today, and a little interesting nugget a DJ dropped into his podcast.
He mentioned about seven teams, but the Colts were one of those teams that he mentioned,
saying that they're internally debating whether they want to use their early pick on an offense tackle
or to add another weapon to their offense. And that really got my attention because we know the Colts are very
closely in T.Y. Hilton walk to Baltimore. It's only a one-year deal for T.Y. too. So if he has
a great year with Carson Wentz, it seems like the Colts are comfortable enough to the point where
they got so closely and walk to Baltimore that they might have a couple of guys here on their
board that they really like early on the draft a wide receiver same goes for offense tackle today we just mentioned those four guys maybe
tevin jenkins at 21 if they if they feel comfortable enough i know chris actually mentioned
his pre-draft press conference last week that jedrick wills who played for alabama went from
right tackle to left tackle is a good example of a guy who could do that maybe he's after like
maybe foreshadowing tevin jenkins there a little bit who knows but I think for honestly
Daniel Jeremiah from what he mentioned with the Colts internally debating a weapon for
Wentz for protection for Wentz that caught my attention because another interesting point I
want to bring up to you Steven I don't know if you've read this or not but a lot of the scouts
out there including Daniel Jeremiah have really seen Rashad Bateman drop in a lot of mock drafts
in big board so far on DJ's new update on his big board today he has Rashad Bateman in the 40s I've seen a lot of people like Bob McGinn who have the athletic
who has him like 47th overall too like maybe the Colts view like hey we can move back in the early
30s and get an extra second round pick and maybe you end up with three second round picks or a two
two twos and a three and you get let's say Rashad Bateman a Liam Eikenberg and then like an Ellerson
Smith in round three like I could see that happening if they truly view like hey we can
trade back and still get a lot of day one impact guys at multiple positions it makes a lot of sense
especially long term if you do not view T.Y. Holden as a guy who's going to be in this Colts offense
past 2021. Absolutely what the Colts do in the front office is they sit there and they plan basically
three years out. So what they are doing this year has, you know, you've obviously going to have some
sway in their current roster, but they're looking to the future. And so they're looking past
T.Y. Hilton right now. And Rashad Bateman, for whatever reason, I just haven't had a great feeling about
him throughout the process. And so I'm not surprised to see them, see him drop a little bit.
If the Colts are really looking for a weapon for Carson Wentz, then I think the most obvious ones
is Terrace Marshall Jr. If they go early, the wider receiver out of LSU, I think he might have
been the first
pick that we ever took in our live mock drafts.
Where I talked
about how much I liked him, I just thought that he was
in that Justin Jefferson
kind of mold where he was overshadowed
by Jamar Chase.
And then now this past year when he finally got
an opportunity to be the number one, he still was the number one.
And despite not having the number one pick as his quarterback.
And so Terrace Marshall Jr., I think, is a perfect option for the Colts and meets a lot of the criteria that they look for.
You may be a guy like Rashad Bateman, mid, early second round, or somebody like Darius, Tony, the speedster out of Florida.
He could be another guy that, that they look for.
They've got a bunch of options because once you get past those top three,
and like I said, if for whatever reason,
Devonta Smith falls because he weighed in at 166 pounds, then, you know,
obviously I think that's a no brainer,
but once you get past those top three,
you've got like a couple that are like immediate starters day one that you
feel really confident about, like Terrace Marshall Jr.
and Kadarius Tony.
And then you've got a bunch of other guys that could develop.
And you got to just have faith in your coaching staff,
which Colts obviously do.
But I think if they're going to go for a weapon early,
you're looking at probably Terrace Marshall Jr., Kadarius Toney,
or then they could go with like a Pat Furtman at a tight end position
out of Penn State.
That's another guy that they could go with early if they don't want to wait
for like a Tommy Trimble later or they're not comfortable.
He's that f tight
end he's a move tight end he's very athletic he's he's got some great he's got some good hands um
able to make plays down the field but if they're looking for a weapon it makes me think that they're
looking more towards the wider super position and again i just keep going back to terrence
marshall jr being a perfect fit yeah marshall makes a lot of sense rashad baby makes a lot
of sense if you start to slip a little bit in the draft of day
two. But last report here from
the National guys. We're diving into our live mock draft
7.0, the final live mock draft of this cycle
for the NFL draft begins here in about 72
hours on Thursday night.
But according to Benjamin Albright, who's really
plugged in for PFN, Pro Football Network,
he's heard a rumor.
One of the Colts fans out there, Victor, asked
him on Twitter if he's heard any Colts rumors.
And this is a connection that me and you brought multiple times in the podcast before, because this guy is a blue star prospect, checks everything on and off the field for the Colts.
The only thing that maybe doesn't check a box is his arm length.
He's just under 33 inches for his arm length, 32 and 7 eighth inches.
But everything else, he's so productive on tape, very explosive, twitchy athlete for his size and his weight.
According to Benjamin Albright, he's heard a rumor that the Colts
are really enamored with Carlos Basham, Carlos Boogie Basham out of Wake Forest.
He can play inside, outside.
He can play rundowns, pass downs.
Very versatile guy where I feel like he can move all across the defensive line.
I mean, the Colts love versatility out of defensive linemen.
He's one of those guys, like Boogie Basham and Peyton Turner out of Houston.
I've been with two guys I've been thinking this whole time, Stephen.
Like, if they wait until day two to address edge at 54 or earlier than that,
those are the two guys that make a lot of sense to me.
And Boogie Basham, according to Ben Albright,
is definitely on the list of guys they're looking at.
Yeah, Cross Basham is a guy that I think he fits what the Colts do.
Peyton Turner, I think, is probably kind of
tailor-made for what Chris Ballard really likes. But again, Albright is very well, Ben Albright is
very well connected. So I would have faith in what he puts out because he doesn't just report
random rumors that he hears from somebody. He actually either vets the information or gets it
from somebody that he trusts that has given him good information in the past.
And so when Albright goes and gives you something publicly, that's something that you can kind of bet that's probably true.
So if the Colts are high on Carlos Passion, he makes a lot of sense there at 54 or in a possible tradeback scenario.
His shuttle's good.
He's got some good explosive metrics.
The relative athletic store is something that Evan, you and I have talked about quite a
bit on the podcast.
He's an elite range with that.
And so he makes a lot of sense for the Colts, especially to address that pass rush situation
early.
And he would really kind of fit what the Colts do.
One thing I wanted to bring up,
because I know we've been talking about national media,
is Tom McShay also put out something earlier,
a little tidbit on the Buffalo Bills that I wanted to mention to everybody.
He mentioned that the Bills were trying to get up in the draft eight or nine
spots to get Travis Etienne out of Clemson, the running back of Clemson.
And they want to get ahead of the Steelers, Jaguars, and Jets.
In order to do that, the Steelers, Jaguars, and Jets are 23, 24, 25 in the draft order.
So that means the Bills are looking to get up to 22 or 21, potentially.
We know that the Colts obviously want to trade down.
So I think the Buffalo Bills really make a lot of sense as a possible trade
down option. And, you know,
McShay even put in there that it would be pretty costly for them to move up.
So the Colts could possibly get pick number 30.
And then I think there's 61 or 60 in the second round,
something like that from the Bills as a possible tradeback scenario for them there.
So I wouldn't rule that out either in terms of options for the Colts to move back.
Yeah, it's a really intriguing storyline there because, like you mentioned,
I think Tennessee probably stays put where they're at.
I've heard a lot of things about Tennessee wanting a weapon
or they want like a Zabin Collins or a guy off the edge there to help their defense. It seems like they're probably going to go BPA at. I've heard a lot of things about Tennessee wanting a weapon or they want like a Zayvon Collins or a guy off the edge there
to help their defense.
It seems like they're probably going to go BPA at that point, 22.
We obviously know the Colts want to trade back.
That's in Chris Bauer's forte.
So moving back, and I think the Bills, if they are a little desperate,
you know Chris Bauer does not lose in the trade value chart.
I could easily see 30 plus 61 to end it for 21.
The Colts then would have picks 30 54 and 61 where if they want to if
they want to go get a guy to boogie bash them or someone that's slipping down the boards a little
bit they could take a guy at 30 and then move back up later in day two from 54 and 61 package those
together maybe get a high second round pick in the process or if they want to package a fourth
round pick with that maybe move up a little bit in the second round like that seems like it's a very flexible idea for the Colts and one that's
right in Chris Ballard's wheelhouse yeah absolutely it just it just makes a lot of sense and if
Bethel is the one that's trying to get up then you know you take advantage of that if you can
um you know the Colts are looking at you know 21 moving back nine spots that i mean that's a pretty big drop back um they
might be able to pick up typically chris ballard ends up being in like the plus 15 plus 25 range
in the trade value chart so you know he could legitimately pick up something along the lines of
like like the second third or that the first round, second round,
and maybe a fourth round pick from the Bills.
And they might not even bat an eye, especially since Bean has been
very aggressive in what he does.
He always tends to be aggressive when you go get the guy he wants.
They did that with Josh Allen and, you know, they were very aggressive.
So I just feel like that makes a lot of sense for both teams here,
especially if the Bills are targeting Travis Etienne
and he seems to be the running back that is rising up boards
rather than Najee Harris.
So, yeah, it's just something to consider, you know,
these fun rumors that come out three days before the draft.

Yeah, absolutely.
Let's go ahead and dive into the second part of our show.
Obviously, the Colts live mock draft, 7-point.
I already be using PFF's big board once again
because it gives us more flexibility to make our own trades, so to say,
with teams that are interested.
We're going to dive in now into our live mock draft, Stephen.
Let's go ahead.
The Colts are on the board here at 21.
We have six teams that are calling us about trades,
but let's first go over the options here on the board for us.
I'm going to pull up here wide receiver, edge rusher, and offense tackle,
and we'll see what stands out most to us.
Also cornerback on the board, Greg Newsom is there for us
if you wanted to throw in corner into the mix.
I know it's kind of been an underrated one we talked about in the past there,
but looking here at wide receiver, offense tackle, and pass rusher,
we have a lot of intriguing names here.
Let's start off with wide wider series to mix things up.
Rashad Bateman out of Minnesota, Elijah Moore out of Ole Miss, top of the board there,
and then Rondell Moore and Kadarius Toney out of Purdue and Florida, respectively.
And then going over the offensive tackle, let's go over there for a second.
We have Tevin Jenkins, Dylan Radins, Samuel Cosme, Alex Leatherwood, Liam Eikenberger.
All the guys that are linked to the Colts so far are on the board for them here at 21.
And then going over to edge rusher, obviously a very intriguing name on the list here of guys
is Jalen Phillips out of Miami.
Quitty Pays off the board now.
We have Jason Owe out of Penn State, Aziz Ojolari, and Boogie Basham out of Wake Forest
right off the list for edge rushers there.
It seems like to me, Stephen, with all the guys mentioned there,
there's about seven, eight, nine guys
who could be a contention for the Colts there.
I think this is right in the Colts' wheelhouse
to really start dialing up those phone lines
to try to move back here.
Yeah, I think so too.
Especially if you've got six trade offers,
the one trade offer I'd be really interested in seeing
is if Buffalo is there in that group for you.
Unfortunately, Buffalo is not on the list here.
We do have Jacksonville at 25, Cleveland at 26, Tampa Bay at 32,
and then we have a couple teams late in the second round.
So I don't know if we're going to be interested here
unless they get really aggressive.
The Chiefs at 58, the Rams at 57, and the Cardinals at 49.
So to mix things up here, we did trade the Jaguars last time.
So I'll just take them off the list here
just because we used them last time.
So let's look at Cleveland at 26
and Tampa Bay at 32.
I'm kind of intrigued to see
like Peter King's mock this morning.
Obviously, he's very plugged in around the NFL.
He had actually the Colts moving back
five spots in Cleveland for 26 and 91.
Do you just want to propose that trade
and see what happens there? Do you kind of want to maybe try to get up a little bit? They have also 26 and 91. Do you just want to propose that trade and see what happens there?
Or do you kind of want to maybe try to get up a little bit?
They have also 89 and 59.
I would try to get 26, 89, and 91 for 21.
Okay.
Let's see if they do that here.
We'll offer that trade up.
They did not accept that.
So maybe we can try just 89 instead of 91. Yeah, let's try that. Let's try 89 here. They did accept that. So maybe we can try just 89 instead of 91.
Yeah, let's try that.
Let's try 89 here.
They did accept that.
So 21 for 26 and 89.
The Colts moved back five spots,
get a third round pick in the process.
That's just right in the Colts wheelhouse, in my opinion.
We are back on the board here again at 26 for the Colts.
We do have one team looking to trade up here.
It might be the Leaf Frog, the Ravens,
who are in the need for a wide out. Rashad Bateman's on the board here at 26.
Maybe we try to move back here still and go back three spots and
maybe get another third round pick in the process or fourth round pick.
I mean, yeah. And you said Terrace Marshall
Jr. is gone? Let me check here. Terrace Marshall is still there.
All the wideouts are still on the board.
Let me just check to see if anyone went in the meantime between 21.
Jalen Phillips, that's who the Browns moved up for at 21.
Christian Barmore, the Titans at 22.
Ojalary to the Jets at 23.
Zayven Collins at 24.
And Trayvon Moore at 25.
So all the offensive linemen are there.
And all the edge rushers outside of Ojalary and Phillips are still there.
And also all the wideouts.
Yeah, I would drop back again. Yeah yeah let's go ahead and try that we can try 29 uh we can trade 26 for 29 and 92 we can try maybe get another third round pick in the process
here let's see what happens yeah they did not accept that did you want to move back and maybe
try a fourth that'd be 135 that'd give the Col, 89, 127, and 135 in the first four rounds.
Try a future third.
Future third.
Let's try that.
They did accept that.
So that would give us 26 for 29 in a round three.
So that'd be maybe a late round three next year.
But that still gives the Colts some flexibility to make up some of the curse.
And once trade value, they're going to lose next year in 2022, which is more like not going
to be a first round pick if all goes well for the Colts. That gives them two third round picks next
year and a second to make up for the loss of a possible first round pick for the Carson Wentz
trade. We drop back and gain a future third in the process. We're back on the board here at 29.
We have more teams trying to move the trade up a little bit. Steven, we have Denver at 40.
We have the Raiders at 48 and Washington at 51.
Let's go ahead and look at the guys on the board here still.
We have Greg Newsome out of Northwestern topping the board for PFF.
He's our 20th-ranked prospect, a cornerback out of Northwestern.
We have Jason Owe out of Penn State.
Tevin Jenkins out of Oklahoma State.
Dylan Radins out of North Dakota State.
And we also still have Sam Cosme and Alex Leatherwood there.
The edge rushers are pretty much wiped out except Boogie Bash
who tops their board as edge rusher right now.
So I'm kind of leaning more towards maybe if we take a Newsom there,
but it seems like there's not a lot of smoke around corner right now
from the Colts' point of view.
Maybe we look at Tevin Jenkins, Radins, or Cosme.
It seems like at this point the Colts, all indicates for Peter King,
they're targeting a left tackle early.
Daniel Jeremiah mentioned that they're debating between left tackle
and a weapon for Wentz.
So it seems like here we might lean towards left tackle.
And kind of our pick of the litter here between Cosme, Leatherwood,
Eichenberg, Radins, and Jenkins, where do you lean there?
I tend to lean cause me and this i just feel like he
kind of although jenkins is uh jenkins is really intriguing now now you it just clicked in my head
that you said jenkins in there too um yeah i i'm either cause me or Jenkins. The reason why I like Cosme is because he's got the experience on both sides.
And so that's kind of why I lean that way.
But, yeah, which one – where are you at on it?
I'm very intrigued by Tevin Jenkins,
especially after Chris Barrett's comments in his press conference about Jedrick
Wills with Cleveland moving over from the right tackle
to left tackle. But I mean,
I'm just sticking to the brand here for Locked On Cold
Steven. I think Cosby has been their guy for a
very long time. And we've been on this from
the very beginning, especially since they
consistently blurred out that picture more
and more and more before the draft
of Frank Reich on
his monitor looking at Sam Cosby tape. And then they eventually blurred it out every single time more and more before the draft of Frank Reich on his monitor
looking at Sam Cosme tape, and then they eventually blurted out
every single time more and more once they saw pictures of it.
I mean, maybe I'm wrong here, Steve, but I think Cosme's their guy.
Yeah, I tend to agree with you.
That's why I just immediately said Cosme.
I feel like he probably fits more so what they're wanting to do
and what they look for.
He's got probably the most experience in this class at the left tackle position
or at the tackle position kind of period.
So I kind of feel like he's going to be their guy.
The only other option I would i would even consider
right here at at 29 is if terrence marshall jr were there um just because i feel like he's
that one weapon that if the colts are gonna go and go get um that's the only thing that's the
only that's the only other option I'd probably
really consider here at 29.
Yeah, so looking at the board here, looking at the trade made with the Packers,
getting a future third-round pick, moving back three spots,
they did take Bateman, so no surprise there to leave Frog Baltimore
to get Bateman.
Terrace Marshall, it's probably their plan B for Baltimore.
He went ahead and went to the Ravens at 27, and then Kadarius Toney at 28 to the Saints, so a little wide out run.
Then it's Cosme for me. I think without having
the other option of Marshall there, I feel like
it's going to be Sam Cosme. Totally agree with you there. Let's lock in Sam Cosme,
offense tackle out of Texas with pick number 29, move back
twice in this simulation.
Get number 89 from the Browns and also a future third-round pick in 2022
from the Green Bay Packers.
And still get a guy we heavily consider at 21 in Sam Cosney.
So he's our guy here at 29.
We were back on the board here at 54, though, Steve.
And we do have a pick here at 89 as well in round three.
Let's look at wide out and edge rusher here.
I think that's probably the consensus here. Maybe throwing corner 89 as well in round three. Let's look at wide out and edge rusher here. I think that's probably the consensus here.
Maybe throwing cornerback as well to the mix.
But I'm looking at guys here at wide out.
Like Elijah Moore is still there at Mississippi.
Maybe Paris Campbell is a little bit redundant there.
I think they're still very hot.
Paris Campbell in the slot.
But you have Diami Brown out of North Carolina.
That tops the list as guys who can maybe be two wide out replacements.
And then we have Peyton Turner out of Houston,
Kelvin Joseph out of Kentucky, and Ifeadu Melafonu out of Syracuse
topping the list here at corner.
And we also have Joe Tryon, an edge rusher out of Washington,
on the list here as well.
Boogie Bash from Diggo in the meantime.
So I'm kind of leaning here towards – this is a guy I feel like I want to put
an ink more often, not just with the way he fits this Colts defense and the way he just fits everything Chris Bauer
looks for. I think if he's still here at 54, Steven, if they haven't addressed
before 54, I really think Peyton Turner's going to be a Colt.
Yeah, honestly,
to me, we started talking about it, and I'm like, it's either going to be
Peyton Turner or Joe Tryon.
That's just kind of where my thought is on it.
It's just, you know, they both need a little work.
I think Joe Tryon might be a little bit more of a refined player,
but I think Peyton Turner's kind of built for what Chris Ballard wants in a defense event. Honestly,
I think we're on the same page here.
It shouldn't be surprising to too many people that I'd probably lean Peyton
Turner. Yeah, and just real quick, going over his measurable, because maybe
some out there listening or new are wondering why we're so narrow with Peyton Turner and his fit with the
Colts, but he's a Chris-eyed defensive end to a tee.
35-3-8 inch arm length, which is 95th percentile for edge rushers.
Almost an 84-inch wingspan above the 90th percentile.
Large hands as well, 10-1⁄2 inch hand size, 91st percentile.
And even with a turf toe in his pro day, 35- a half inch vertical jump, 77th percentile, and an official 7.013 cone,
83rd percentile for a guy that weighs 270 pounds.
He's just a guy to me, like put him in a Danico Autry role,
have him split reps with Tyquan Lewis, and you could have him maybe on third down.
You can kick Tyquan inside either one to next to DeForest Buckner,
have Turner on the outside, Ture on the other side.
And you can really get after guys on third down with all that length too,
especially like Chris Byard loves speed and length.
And Turner has both in spades,
especially that bend for a guy his size too.
Yeah.
His three,
it's crazy that he is,
you know,
six,
five and a half at 270 pounds and ran almost a sub seven,
second three count job. Like like that's that's pretty crazy
um you don't see many of these guys around um so like if you go to mockdraftable.com and you
look at the spider webs his is massive it's it's just huge so i like that i i really like
peyton turner in in terms of what he does for the Colts and what he
can do for this defense he just makes a ton of sense from the explosiveness numbers and from his
length that he's he's got all the measurables that Chris Ballard likes plus the intangibles
and just real quick to where Devin or third round pick for the Colts at 89
something from Daniel Jeremiah mentioned on his podcast earlier today is
something that caught my eye too is that
Bucky Brooks asked him about maybe
a late riser who could sneak into
late round one. And it was
Peyton Turner from DJ. So that
really threw me for a loop there. Maybe
Peyton Turner is a lot higher on boards
than we think. He could be a guy who maybe sneaks into that
30-ish range. The Colts can move back in the early
second round. He could be the guy to watch out for there instead of 54.
Yeah, absolutely.
He just makes so much sense.
And, like, guys like him just don't come along very often,
guys that are a bit like him.
And so I wouldn't be surprised to see him start to creep up.
If anybody wants a comparable,
a couple of the guys that are similar to him
in terms of the mock draftable,
the web that we talk about every once in a while,
Chandler Jones is one.
Preston Smith is another
where they're both very, very close
to what Peyton Turner offers
in terms of his explosiveness and length and everything.
And if anybody remembers when Preston Smith was in free agency a couple years before he
signed with Green Bay, his finalists were the Colts and Green Bay.
So it's the type that Chris Ballard likes to spend money on, which should tell you that's
the type of player that he would be very happy drafting.
We're going to lock in now, Steven.
Peyton Turner, edge rusher out of Houston at pick 54.
So our first two picks, Sam Cosme, Peyton Turner.
It feels like a really prototypical Colts draft of what we've learned so far
over the last couple months.
But we're back on the board here at 89, and almost similar to Peyton Turner here.
Looking at the boards here for offensive weapons, wide receiver or tight end,
plus cornerback, defensive backs, you can throw them in there as well.
But man, this guy just keeps down to me every single week, Stephen.
This is kind of our guy on the show as well,
almost like Peyton Turner and Sam Cosme.
It feels like these guys are a prototypical Colts process.
From what we know, the last four to five years of Chris Ballard,
he targets these guys, and Frank Reich especially loves these type of guys too.
I just feel like Tommy Trimble, the tight end of Notre Dame,
if the Colts do move back and get an extra third-round pick, I think this is who they're going to be targeting is Tommy Trimble, the tight end of Notre Dame, if the Colts do move back and get an extra third-round pick,
I think this is who they're going to be targeting is Tommy Trimble.
Yeah, and this is a guy that I think is going to go higher than –
like if we've played this before with PFF,
and right now this mock draft that we're doing is we're trying to be as realistic
in what we actually think will happen as possible to what we think will happen with the Colts. In the PFF mock draft simulator,
a lot of times you can get Tommy Trimble there in the fourth round, sometimes even the fifth round
at 165. I don't think there's any way he lasts that long in the actual draft. And so I think
he's going to be a third round pick. And if the Colts drop back and pick up an extra late second-round pick,
for example, if they make that trade back for Buffalo,
or they drop back and pick up an extra third-round pick,
I feel really confident that Tommy Trimble is going to end up being
on the Indianapolis Colts.
I totally agree with you there.
I think he could just be a weapon like Eric Ebron with offense.
He definitely has some refinement to do with his hands, just like Ebron did.
But, man, his blocking ability is something I think that Frank Reich is going to fall in love with on tape.
And I would not be shocked if he already has because, like you mentioned so many times in the show,
already doing our live mock draft, Stephen, I feel like this is probably our fifth, sixth week in a row
we've had Tommy Trimble in our drafts just because he makes so much sense from all angles for the Colts.
He's a blue star prospect, too.
Just makes so much sense for this team to add a weapon like him.
And I don't know if you saw the reports from Stephen Holder.
It wasn't really a report, so to say,
but he mentioned it on his podcast with Zach Kiefer last week
that he's heard some rumblings this could be Jack Doyle's last year.
Like he could retire after this year.
He has two years left on his deal,
and Doyle's 31 going to be 32 at the end of this season.
I mean, if that's true and if he is hearing rumblings that this could be Jack Doyle's swan going to be 32 at the end of this season. I mean, if that's true, and if he is hearing rumblings,
this could be Jack Doyle, Swansong, and Indy.
Tight end is a huge, huge need at that point.
Yeah, and, you know, it's funny because this is somebody that I've talked about,
maybe on this podcast, definitely talked about it on Afternoon Pancakes with Jared,
is Jack Doyle is probably the worst contract that they have on
the books and it's not a bad contract at all he's you know not been great the past year year and a
half two years and so I wouldn't be surprised to see Jack Doyle either retire or get cut after
this season and that's kind of what I was talking about there
at the beginning of this episode is you Chris Ballard and then the front office, they look
three years in advance. So they're looking to try to replace a guy before he's ever off the roster.
So they'd be looking for Tommy Trimble, which makes a whole lot of sense. As a guy who can make some catches, loves blocking,
I want to say I saw a Tommy Trimble little excerpt where the tight end,
he tries to model himself after is George Kittle.
If you're a team that really likes a blocking tight end
that can still do things in the pass game, that's the tight end you want to mimic um george kittle is is the guy the dual threat kind of tight end uh where he's he loves to put
people in the ground in the blocking game and in the running game and he's a weapon in the receiving
game and so i just i feel like that makes a lot of sense for them to go ahead and address this tight end position, especially early, because I don't see Jack Doyle being on the roster for more than a year or two.
I don't think he's going to get another contract after this one.

That's A-U-D-A-C-Y.
Totally agree.
Let's go ahead and lock in.
Then Tommy Tremble, tight end out in Notre Dame here at pick 89.
That means the Colts first three picks. Tremble, tight end out of Notre Dame here at pick 89. That means the Colts' first three picks.
Sam Cosme, offensive tackle out of Texas.
Peyton Turner, edge rusher out of Houston.
And Tommy Tremble, tight end out of Notre Dame.
Go off the board for the Colts in the first three rounds.
Colts are back up on the board here at 127 with their fourth-round pick, Stephen.
I feel like this is a point where we should probably go defensive back,
unless we see a guy at wide receiver we really like here.
Because we've heard so much smoke around cornerback surprisingly
enough because Jim Irsay keeps mentioning it whenever we talk to Jim Irsay in the local media
where it really does seem like if the Colts don't go tight in an offensive weapon early
I think that cornerback could be in play at 54 or in round three what's your opinion Stephen of
what the Colts should target here at 127 if they were
to go left tackle, edge rusher, and an offensive weapon at tight end for the Colts here at 127?
I think they're probably looking at corner here. You're probably looking at corner, safety.
You might try to sneak in a linebacker like a Tony Fields out of West Virginia um who's an athletic linebacker a
sideline to sideline guy then I honestly it's hard to to pin down what Chris Fowler's going to do
to be honest it's we have a pretty good idea up top but in these once it gets to day three of
this draft he really does generally go best player available and try to fill in positions that are of me on the roster, but he doesn't reach for players.
And so any position wouldn't surprise me.
I tend to lean somebody in the defensive secondary, and that's just kind of my gut feeling on this, there or possibly wide receiver.
And that's kind of where I'm
leaning yeah I'm right there with you Steven just because I think at this point getting a weapon for
once we just did when Tommy Truby would not be surprised to take a day three pick for a wide
receiver as well topping the board here at wide out on PFF sport Josh Palmer out of Tennessee
Kay Johnson out of South Dakota State and Jalen Darden out of North Texas. Could be more of a slot guy.
At cornerback, there's a couple intriguing names here
that really check a lot of Colts boxes atop their board.
Benjamin St. Juiced out of Minnesota, very long, lanky corner.
He is 6'3 1⁄4 with almost an 80-inch wingspan,
almost 33-inch arms as well.
Not a great athlete, 4'4, 5'40,5-40 but a great three cone a 6.63 three cone
93 percent top for a guy that's almost six foot three and a half another guy that makes a lot
of sense from a blue star standpoint on the cornerback board is Robert Rochelle out of
Central Arkansas had a great week at the senior bowl as well comparing the same juice for a second
Steven he's a guy that's a little smaller, around 5'11", 3 quarters,
200 pounds. Good wingspan, though. Checks the arm length box for the Colts, 32 and 3 inch,
3 eighths inch arms. But he's a lot more of an athlete than Benjamin St. Juice is. He has a 96
percentile broad jump, 98 percentile vertical jump, 80 percentile 40 yard dash, and a 71st
percentile three cone. Has the wingspan and arm length that we just mentioned.
I feel like if they're going to cornerback here,
I'd probably lean towards St. Juiced or Robert Rochelle here,
two senior bowl guys who were team captains.
So here's a question for the cornerback position.
Two guys that I want to know if they're available here.
A lot of times they're going to go earlier.
They might be available in round four as Paulson Adebo,
the cornerback out of Stanford.
And this might sound surprising, but Sean Wade,
the corner out of Ohio State.
Let me go ahead and check that real quick.
It looks like here that –
They're between the two in terms of the listing.
Okay, yeah, let me go ahead and double-check real quick on that
because I know sometimes Sean Wade's list has a safety on some sites.
Let me just check over on safeties. Yeah, it looks like here both those guys are off the board
okay I think I'd probably tend to lean with St. Joost as well in this scenario the reason why I
wanted to bring up those two guys is both of them had down years this past year, but put up elite tape when they were healthy.
And they both came back to school for their senior years or came back to school for another year rather than entering the draft last year.
Sean Wade was borderline a first round pick when he came back to Ohio State this past year.
He played out of he came back, wanted to be a captain, went to a different position in the secondary and struggled a little bit.
And I think he got hurt. And so that's really kind of where his stock goes.
So it really just depends on where you want to play Sean Wade.
Because if you remember back in 2019 and the national champion or the national playoffs he was just all over Trevor Lawrence and the
Clemson Tigers until he had that unfortunate targeting penalty that got him ejected from the
game and then after that Clemson was able to go on a run but prior to that the the Ohio State
corners were locking down all the Clemson receivers and that was with T Higgins and obviously Trevor
Lawrence you had a couple of just really quality guys there, Clemson.
So Sean Wade's a guy that I think might be an option for the Colts.
Obviously he's not an option here in this draft because he's, he's gone.
It's just a name to keep an eye on and people might be down on him based on
this past year, but give him some credit because I think that he could be a guy that, you know, could
come in and be able to make plays right away for this Colts defense.
If we're looking at cornerback, I'd probably lean, like I said, towards St. Joost.
I think that he's probably going to be the better option for the Colts in this scenario.
Just out of curiosity, what is available at the edge position?
Let me go ahead and check that real quick for you.
Yeah, just real quick on St. Juicers to add more on to him
because his athletic profile obviously does fit the Colts.
Great three-cone time, great arm length.
I'd be intrigued to see what he would do with a training camp
out with Marvell, Tell, and Rakia Sin.
Because he could be a guy, as a fourth-round pick,
if you were to take him here,
he could be a guy that actually competes for a starting spot
if all doesn't go well with Rakia Sin.
Because St. Juice, with his size and his click-and-close ability
for a very short distance with his three-cone drill,
he could be a great fit with his size.
And ironically enough, one of his top athletic comparables
is Quincy Wilson out of Florida.
A failed prospect for the Colts in 2017ables is Quincy Wilson out of Florida.
Failed prospect for the Colts in 2017, but definitely fits that kind of mold.
Let me go ahead and check the edge rushers here for you, Stephen, here in the 127 range.
So we do have a guy in Ellerson Smith, who's one of our guys here on the board, still available.
Looks like here, Victor Demujike out of Duke as well.
Adeda Kombo-Ogadenji out of Notre Dame.
Those are the guys that top the list there at 127 who could be in play.
It's hard for me to pass up because we're at 127. It's hard for me to pass up Ellerson Smith,
even though I know we went and Peyton Turner early just because I I
just there's this you know the after this year the Colts right now will have based on our draft
the Colts right now will have Peyton Turner at potentially one end. You've got Al-Kadim Mohamed on a one-year deal there.
You've got Ben Banigou, who is on his third year,
hoping that he pushes through.
Kamoko Ture is on his final year of his contract.
And then Taekwon Lewis, who's also in the final year of his contract.
So you've got three guys that potentially could be gone. So I wouldn't be
surprised to see Chris Bowd bring in another edge rusher and especially a guy like Ellerson Smith,
who really fits a lot of what they look for in terms of the speed, just the explosiveness, the abilities they have. That's a guy that
I might consider. Another long guy,
6'6", 252 with an 82 and 7 8 inch wingspan,
85th percentile. He's got pretty good
three cone, not as good as Peyton Turner, but still
it's just
an interesting prospect. And I've always been a fan of Ellerson Smith. Um, but I feel like probably
they're going to take a cornerback early, especially like you said, with, with Jim
or say comments literally in every press conference he's had in every speaking opportunity
that he's had, he's mentioned cornerback. So I wouldn't be surprised to see them take one here.
So I'd probably just go ahead and lock in St. Juice in this situation.
Okay. Yeah, I agree with you.
Let's go ahead and lock in Benjamin St. Juice, corner out of Minnesota.
Could be an intriguing guy, developmental guy.
Could get some role on special teams early on,
or maybe even compete with guys like Marvell, Tom,
Rakia Sen for an actual legit starting spot as a boundary corner in 2021.
But real quickly on edge rusher, Stephen,
because I know we've had a lot of discussions before.
A lot of listeners ask as well.
At this point, just based off Chris Bout's pre-draft press conference last week,
he seems like at this point, especially with contract years for guys like
Kimoko Ture and Taekwon Lewis, and a really privy year for Ben Bannigal
like we saw for Taekwon Lewis last year,
I really think that those three guys are going to be seeing a lot of time on the field this
year because we still don't even know yet what those guys are for this team.
And this is a big year, especially for guys like Ture and Taekwon who are going to be
needing some new contracts after this year.
If they do pop off, that could be – if Ture is in a smaller role, just Houston coming
back, for example, I don't think Houston could be back at this point because I just
feel like Bauer wants to see if Banigou and Touré are actually going to hit for them or not.
Yeah, I feel like you're right on that.
I feel like Houston might be done with the Colts.
I always thought he was a great player for us and a really good team leader,
but based on Chris Ballard's press conference
on Friday, the pre-draft conference that he had, it just seems like he's going to push to have these guys play and give these young guys a chance.
He talked so much about Taekwon and Kamoko Ture and how he was kind of kicking himself with Ture and trying to get him back a little bit sooner and how he expects him to be ready to
be full go in June. But maybe he kind of pushed himself, Ture pushed himself a little bit too far
to get back a little too early. And Banigou, this is a huge year for Ben Banigou, who should be
like, after this is his third year, this is the year that Chris Ballard really expects those
pass rushes to make that jump and so I think this is a huge year for Ben Banigou and I think that
he's going to kind of focus on them um and try to you know give them the keys because when you've
got guys like DeForest Buckner a first team all pro there on the inside you these guys should be
able to get after the quarterback and they
should be able to make a lot of plays. So hopefully that's what they do this year.
And I think Chris Ballard is going to give them every opportunity to.
Let's go ahead and move on here to our pick at 165 in the fifth round for the Colts. And
at this point, we've gone ahead and added in a corner. I have 127, a tight end, and Tommy Tremble, edge rusher,
and Peyton Turner, and a left tackle, and Sam Cosme.
I feel like here in the fifth round, Stephen, it's kind of anything goes.
It's kind of in the BPA range for Chris Ballard.
I'm thinking maybe like a wideout, a safety,
maybe even a linebacker here would make a lot of sense.
Yeah, those are literally the three positions I was going to recommend. So,
yeah. All right, let's go ahead and look at it then. Just topping PFFs, we have Kay Johnson,
wide receiver out of South Dakota State. Jalen Darden, wide receiver out of North Texas. Dax
Milne, wide receiver out of BYU. Simi Fahoku, wide receiver out of Stanford. So there's a lot
of wide outs topping their board here. Getting into safety, we have Tyree Gillespie out of Missouri. We have Damar Hamlin out of Pittsburgh
and Sean Davis out of Florida, as well as Jamie and Sherwood out of Auburn.
And then it looks like linebacker, we have Derek Barnes out of Purdue
and Justin Hilliard out of Ohio State topping the list there.
I'm a big fan of Simi Fahoku at the
wide out position there from Stanford.
I think that he's going to probably go a little bit higher than this position here at 165.
I think that he's going to – he's got such a great just – he's 6'4", 227,
so he fits into what Chris Ballard really looks for in a wide receiver.
He's got a great size-speed combination.
He's able to make plays on the ball when you give him an opportunity.
He needs to develop a little bit, but with the Colts,
and you give him a chance, like he doesn't have to come in right away,
but he's physical.
He likes to block.
He's got great straight-line speed.
He's willing to play on special teams.
He's a guy that I think really just kind of fits what the Colts look for
in a wide receiver.
I think it's a fair assessment.
Fahoku's a guy we drafted before in our simulations.
One guy I want to throw out there, maybe we can wait until the next round
and do something, want to go to a different position here outside the fifth round.
Maybe we can even take him here at 165 if we want to.
But a guy who's been getting a lot of buzz here as a guy who can maybe move
over to tight end or even be an X wide receiver is Jacob Harris out of UCF.
He really blew up his pro day.
He's a guy at 6'5", 220 pounds, almost 34-inch arms.
He fits a tight end mold. You end multi when moving over there as well.
40-inch vertical jump, 133-inch broad jump.
Like, he's a really explosive athlete for his size.
Can play either tight end or in a move role as a wide receiver.
He can just throw deep shots out of his way.
I think, honestly, Stephen, if we're thinking, like, long-term here,
like, if Jack Doyle hypothetically does retire,
the Colts are going to need maybe another tight end here.
Another guy could play that role a little bit.
Maybe Tommy Trimble takes that Jack Doyle role.
You can have Maudie Cox stay in his role.
Maybe Jacob Harris could be a guy who could be that third tight end
or even that move guy outside as well.
If you see Trimble more in that Doyle role, it could be more explosive.
If Doyle does retire, I think maybe double-dipping here at tight end or wide receiver, like a Jacob Harris could play
both roles, could be intriguing. That is really
intriguing. I'm not sure about making that
transition. This is interesting, though, because back last year when
they drafted Desmond Patman, that was one of my thoughts
is if you looked at Desmond Patman and
his size speed and how he likes to just get in there and mix it up every once in a while,
he was a guy that I threw out. I was like, maybe they brought him in to beef him up a little bit
and put him at the tight end position. So I really the idea of of moving guys around and and giving them an
opportunity uh to to make the roster um it's definitely an intriguing intriguing option
um there I wouldn't be surprised to see them double dip at the tight end if what Holder's
reporting is true and they do want to kind of look to move on because after this year you've got
you know jack
doyle would be gone at this point we would have tommy tremble on the roster um on his rookie deal
but mo ali cox also is would be a free agent after this year so you've got a couple different
guys that you're going to need to look to replace so it's definitely an interesting proposition
um with jacob paris he fits um it's not not something i
haven't i have i've really considered though too too much at this point yeah honestly i mean you
can see even see desmond patman in that role like he's 225 33 inch arms if he looks like he's bulked
up this all too like he could be a guy maybe down the road who after a year or two could be in a
tight end type of role but i lean towards simi fahoku here he checks the character boxes he's a deep threat he can play as your wide receiver for a long term if they don't re-sign Zach Paschal and
T.Y. Hilton after this year so what do you think about locking in Fahoku? Yeah I'm totally down
with it. Let's go ahead and lock in then Stanford wide receiver Simi Fahoku with our fifth round
pick the Colts are back up on the board here at 206 and we're gonna be back on the board for our
final pick here at 248. I'm looking here Steven either at linebacker because obviously Anthony Walker love but we
know Chris Bauer loves drafting linebackers especially with guys like Matthew Adams out
here Franklin on contract years and then we can even look at maybe safety here as well
and maybe interior offensive line any guys stay on here too I mean looking at the board here
Derek Barnes out of Purdue tops their list
for the guys we just mentioned at these positions.
Jamie and Sherwood out of Auburn is a hard-hitting safety
who I know the Colts have spoken to
according to Justin Mello of the Draft Network.
He could be a guy to watch out for here as well.
Isaiah McDuffie, linebacker out of Boston College.
Derek Forrest, safety out of Cincinnati,
is a really athletic, twitched-up athlete.
So I feel like those four guys really make a lot of sense if they were to go
linebacker or safety because there's a lot of interior offensive linemen.
Our guy Tommy Kramer probably still could be there in the seventh round.
Yeah, I tend to lean towards either Barnes in this situation.
I feel like he's – I think he's going to get a tough break in the draft
because I feel like he's not going to get quite the publicity that he should
because he's still got some really, really explosive numbers there
in terms of broad jump, vertical jump, 40 and 20-yard split on it.
He's got long arms long wingspan um he kind of fits what the colts look for if you look at um his uh mock
draftables web it's kind of a little bit all over the place the the 10 yards splits a little short But his wingspan is 98th percentile for linebackers.
For 93rd percentile for all linebackers, 98th percentile for inside linebackers.
His arm length is 83rd for all linebackers and 88th for inside linebackers.
And he's strong.
Like, he's got a good bench press.
I think that he would have gone a lot higher had he not gotten hurt.
The interesting thing with the Colts is they've not had an issue taking guys that have been hurt and just scooping up guys that probably should have gone
in round three, if not for being injured,
and then grabbing them here in round six.
Yeah, and I think Barnes is a good pick here.
I know linebacker Colton's probably wondering why in the world he's taking a linebacker here
with all the guys they have on the roster.
But it could be down a couple guys next year.
I don't think they're going to re-sign guys like Matthew Adams and Zaire Franklin after this year.
I think they're going to try to replenish that youth.
And we know they like Jordan Glasgow in special teams.
EJ Speed's a guy I think could be seeing a bigger role this year.
And if they were to draft a linebacker on day three,
I think those could be your new replenished talents to replace guys like Anthony Walker and then Adams and Franklin as well and
like you mentioned Barnes with his wingspan that just fits the Colts he's a team captain for Purdue
as well blue star guy so I'm definitely cool blocking Derek Barnes here at Purdue maybe
doesn't play a big role in 2021 but I think in 2022 and beyond he's gonna be a guy could maybe
be your starting Sam linebacker against Tennessee with Derrick Henry.
Yeah, I'm definitely on board with this. I feel like
he's a perfect pick at this spot.
Let's go ahead and lock in Derrick
Barnes, inside-outside linebacker out of
Purdue. Really could be a special teams weapon for them
as well. So let's go ahead. We're on
pick 248 here for
the Colts, and there's a couple
needs here for them, and we could go in the seventh. And there's a couple needs here for them.
And we could go in the seventh round, really shoot a dartboard here.
We can go safety.
We have not taken a safety so far in this draft.
We could draft some offensive line depth.
Or we can go and double dip with an edge rusher here if you want to.
What stands out to you most?
I'm probably looking at either edge rusher or safety here.
I feel like this is going to be, it's interesting.
Cause like originally I thought we were probably going to go pretty heavy
defense in the draft, but we've now gone even three and three offense defense.
Not this doesn't make, and just so everybody knows,
the team probably doesn't look at that at all when they're making these
selections before anybody jumps on this.
So, yeah, I just want to put that out there.
I tend to lean safety in this situation or edge rusher.
Yeah, let's go ahead and look at those positions here.
Safety looks like the top safeties on the board.
Marcus Murphy out of Mississippi State, Tariq Thompson out of San Diego State.
Pretty much cleaned out here for safety.
So I would not be surprised if they passed on one here.
Edge rusher, though, I'm looking at some guys.
And one that stands out to me most, he tops their list, actually, for PFF right now,
Janarius Robinson, the edge rusher out of Florida State.
Really a toolsy guy, one who could really be a shot in the dark for the Colts on late day three.
Senior bowl player as well.
Massive, massive intangibles for this guy.
Almost a 36-inch arm length for Janarius Robinson.
Almost 11-inch hand size, 95th percentile for each.
86-inch wingspan, which is near 99th percentile.
4'6", 940, so he has a pretty adequate 40-yard dash speed.
Pretty slow three-cone out, 7'3", 1".
He's a guy to me almost like a Jerry Green from the 2018-2019 draft where you just take a shot in one he's a guy to me like almost like a jerry green
from the 2018-2019 draft where you just take a shot in the dark on a guy with some tools and
see what happens green obviously flamed out pretty quickly for the colts to not really find a spot
here on their roster long term he's bounced around the practice squads a couple times but
generius robinson's one to me senior bowl checks that box very lengthy and athletic he fits that
box as well maybe he's one
he could watch off or he may be stashed on the practice squad for a year and if guys like
Ture and Lewis don't work out you can maybe try him out in 2022 after being stashed for a year
yeah I'm I'm sold I it's you look at these guys and what we have to consider here late is
you know do these guys fit the athletic profile
that you're looking for and they're like chris ballard said their dart throws at this point you
hope you get lucky uh janarius robinson fits a lot of the checks a lot of the boxes he's got long
arms he's you know we go back to that relative athletic store that we've talked about quite a bit throughout the past 10 weeks.
He's an elite grade there with the relative athletic score.
And so he's got great explosive numbers.
There's a couple numbers on there that are a little concerning,
but you look at him more as a base defensive end
and kind of try to let him grow from there.
And I think that he could really pay dividends,
especially if you're able to develop him with Brian Baker,
the defensive line coach there in Indianapolis.
And he's able to just, you know, take a year, you know,
hopefully you could stash him on the practice squad.
I don't know if you'd be able to do that,
but if you are able to do it, it'd be obviously best case scenario.
But yeah, he makes a lot of sense for what the Colts want to do
and what he offers.
Let's go ahead and lock in Janarius Robinson.
Just to mix things up here, Stephen.
Just a toolsy athletic guy.
He can maybe kick inside, outside.
Very long wingspan.
Senior bowl checks a lot of those boxers.
So let's lock in Janarius Robinson, edge rusher out of Florida State.
You're at pick 248.
Colts last pick here.
Our final pick, Stephen, before the actual NFL draft.
Live mock draft 7.0 has finished up here.
And let's just recap real quick for the audience what we did here.
We moved back from 21 with the Cleveland Browns and got 26 and 89.
We're on the clock at 26.
The Green Bay Packers wanted to leapfrog the Saints
and the Ravens were Rashad Bateman.
So we moved back three spots and got a future third-round pick in the process.
So in the end, the Colts got a third-round pick this year
as well as a third-round pick next year for moving back around eight spots.
Picking at 29, still got their guy in Samuel Cosme, left tackle out of Texas.
Peyton Turner, edge rusher out of Houston at 54.
Tommy Tremble, tight end on Notre Dame at 89 via the Browns.
127, their fourth-round pick starting off day three.
Benjamin St. Juice, cornerback out of Minnesota.
Pick 165, Simi Fahoku, wide receiver out of Stanford.
Pick 206 in the sixth round, Derek Barnes, linebacker out of Purdue.
And Ingenious Robinson, a developmental edge rusher
who can maybe be a later round shot in the dark for the Colts
at 248 out of Florida State.
The Colts and the PFF mock draft simulator stand, once again,
we got back-to-back weeks now, an A-grade from PFF on their board.
What's your overall thoughts on the way that that's played out here?
The Colts move back, get a third-round pick this year,
a third-round pick next year, and still have a pretty amazing haul
on day one and two of the draft, getting Cosme, Turner, and Trimble.
Yeah, man, I feel really confident in it.
I really like this draft that we've done here from top to bottom. I know in the past couple drafts, I've been like a little wishy-washy on the
back end. This one I really like. I think that we obviously dropping back eight spots, picking up a
third round pick and then a future third. You know, Maybe if we drop back those eight spots right away, we're able to pick up a second round
pick instead of the third round pick.
And I don't know how Chris Ballard feels about that.
But when you look at what we got, they're still able to get a guy that we were likely
to get at 21.
That was Sam Cosme.
Being able to get a defensive end, Peyton Turner that you feel really confident that it's
going to be able to play immediately in your system, and then getting a weapon for Carson
Wentz at Tommy Trimble makes a ton of sense for what I think the Colts will actually do.
I wouldn't be surprised if these are the Colts' first three picks in the draft in some order,
probably this exact order now that I say that.
But I wouldn't be surprised if it's Sam Cosme, Peyton Turner, Tommy Trimble,
and I'd be really, really excited.
Benjamin St. Juice there, the cornerback, he's got the length that you look for
in the Colts' defense.
Samit Pahoku, it's a big play threat from a really big wide receiver
that just needs to be developed a little
bit and then Derek Barnes I think is really underrated I feel really confident about him
being able to be a sideline to sideline linebacker he really was he was a great linebacker in the
Big Ten and Purdue doesn't play in a super easy schedule the fact that he was able to make plays
as much as he did, I feel like he's
going to go a lot higher than the sixth round, to be honest. But if the Colts could grab him in the
sixth round like we did, I would be really, really excited about it. And then shot in the dark,
you know, you go for that defensive end, hope you can develop. I feel great about that as well. And
then to pick up a green, the Green Bay's thirdround pick next year, it helps offset a little bit the loss of the first-round pick.
Chris Ballard doesn't like day-one picks anyway.
So, you know, I feel like he'd be even happier to have a second
and two-thirds than he would to have – I'm just joking.
He obviously wants the first-round pick if he can get it.
But he'd probably feel really, really great about this haul,
and I think Colts fans would too.
Yeah, this is awesome stuff here, Steve.
We've been going the last two months now,
just each week going through a live mock draft for the listeners,
and this is our final one, and possibly the most realistic one.
I mean, I feel like the three guys we targeted in our first three picks
are the ones that we've been honing in on this whole time
because they just check every single Colts box.
Like you mentioned, I would not be shocked that Cosme Turner and Trimble are their first three
picks. They were due a trade back scenario,
which seems very likely at this point from all the smoke we're hearing from
national insiders about what the Colts are going to do at 21.
But in the meantime, Steven, I appreciate having you on, man.
We're going to be most likely having you back on here Thursday and Friday to
get some reaction after the Colts pick,
if they even do pick on Thursday to talk through what the Colts ended up doing
on day one and day two.
But Colts fans, go ahead and follow Steve if you're not already on Twitter
at NiceReach.
Steve, go listen to his podcast as well over on Stampede Blue.
Steve, I appreciate the time tonight.
All right.
Thanks, Evan.
Have a great one.
