I'm Derek Shultz.
long time indie sports talker and sports columnist for the indianapolis business journal i'm joined by a
nter dame legend in long time nfl running back alan pinkett along with locked on colts daily host jake arthur
and zach hicks your first listen every day we are celebrating a birthday today folks june 16th
2026 it marks the 10 year anniversary of the launch of the locked on podcast network so that's why we're
all here right now sitting here doing this squad show and we thought it'd be fun to tie that into
today's Colts Squad show. I know
Jake and Zach did that already
with the Daily Show today of Locked on Colts
by looking back on the top 10 moments
on the squad show today
we're going to look back on the Colts top
10 players of the last
10 years. Now if you're thinking it at home, okay, well
this is going to be easy. It's going to be Quinn Nelson,
it's going to be Jonathan Taylor, it's going to be Kenny Moore.
We had some fun with this, okay?
We're talking impactful
Colts players, left and
impacts. That doesn't mean most productive.
That doesn't mean most games. We're not
totally leaning into longevity here,
even though obviously that plays a little bit of a factor.
And all four of us, I can tell you,
I don't know what everybody else lists says.
We only talked about this as a group as far as,
hey, we're doing this,
but we're going to be surprised as well.
So we're going to have a lot of fun with this,
along with you listeners and viewers and the big reveal.
Zach and Jake will go first in the first segment of the show,
and then Alan and I will bring you home in the second segment
talking about our top 10 most impactful cults over the last 10 years.
Segment number three,
we'll look back at the last decade as
and how it will age.
A wilderness period, I think, no doubt
for the Colts with only two playoff appearances
and one win. We'll discuss that.
And then finally in segment number four,
we'll step away from the 10-year conversation
and get into sort of a news and notes,
a supplemental draft
deal for Brendan Sorsby here.
It was huge news in the college football world last week,
and now it looks like he's going to go ahead
and move on to his pro career.
And also officially kind of closing the book
and tying a bow on OTA.
which of course wrapped up last week right here in Indianapolis.
But I want to leave as much time for this as possible, Zach.
I've been excited about it all week.
I know you have been in geeking out of this.
You know, 10 years kind of fits perfectly into your window of Colts,
not only fandom, but now mediadom, if you will.
So hit us with it.
Your top 10 most impactful Colts to kick us off here.
Yeah.
So one more thing I wanted to add to this stipulation list was we are only grading
these players on their impact they provided the Colts within that 10-year
window. So from 2016 to 2025. So there's going to be some guys a little bit lower on this list where
if you look at their whole career, they would be much higher, obviously, than where they are on this
list. But only looking from 2016 to 2025, let's kick it off with number 10, tight end Jack Doyle came
in there for me. Had a really great five-year stretch, part of two playoff teams, Mr. Reliable
there at tight end. Hard to leave him off this list. Number nine, Kenny Moore, the second,
cornerback. I think just his production and playoff games and his production in big time moments.
I think Kenny Moore certainly deserved to make the list. Then I go quarterback back to back with
numbers eight and seven. Number eight, I go Philip Rivers, number seven, Andrew Luck. And then
breaking into the top six, T.Y Hilton. Now again, this was his whole career. T.Y. Hilton would
have been much higher, but he only had 2,000 yard seasons in the 2016 to 2025 range. That's why he only
came in at number six. Breaking into my top five, though, wide receiver.
Michael Pittman Jr. multiple 1,000-yard seasons, very productive player for the Colts.
Unfortunately, with the Steelers now, very productive in his time with the Colts.
Number four, a little bit of a surprise.
Linebacker, Shaquille Leonard, insanely productive on his rookie contract, one of the best
rookie contracts in the history of football, but did provide some negative value after that
rookie contract, which took him down just a little bit for me.
After that, breaking into our top three defensive tackle to Forrest Buckner, all pro,
one of the best players in football, his first two seasons with the Colts and then has regressed a little bit,
but still an above average defensive tackle.
Very good football player.
Number two, running back Jonathan Taylor, one of the best running backs in the history of this franchise.
And this franchise has a long story history at running back.
And number one, the first ballot Hall of Famer, hopefully first ballot Hall of Famer.
Position value be damned, Quentin Nelson, number one.
He is already in the top five in Indianapolis Colts history for,
pro bowls in a career. He's already in the top five as well. I mean, Quentin Nelson is a
Hall of Famer by far and away. And he actually has a good chance of finishing his career with the
most Pro Bowls in Colts history. He only needs three more to be at the top of that list. So Quentin
Nelson's number one for me. But yeah, that's my list right there. Guys. Any thoughts, takeaways?
I think Quentin, I think that's very, very fitting to be at the top of the list. I mean, his entire career
has been fit within that 10-year span so far.
Right.
He has literally made the Pro Bowl every year
and should probably have been an all-pro each year,
but he has been all but too.
So, I mean, the guy is otherworldly productive
for an offensive lineman,
and it's rare if you're going to take a guard that high
at number six that they actually live up to the hype,
and I think you could probably say that he's exceeded it.
Yeah.
And I would say since your basis was
impact on the team. I think you were spot on with all of your picks. Some of those will be in my list
for different reasons at different spots. And I will apologize to begin with because I suffer
from some recency bias because I really haven't watched the Colts the last 10 years. But I've done
a little bit of studying. But I think the ones you pick, Zach, you state the case.
And, you know, I don't know how anyone can come up with a better list. But you will.
Thank you. And I thought, you know, Jack Doyle was one, like, if you asked a Titans fan or a Ravens fan or like, I don't know, an Eagles fan, somebody from outside Indianapolis to name the top 10 most impactful Colts and that you just had him do a list on the flight, I do.
not think Jack Doyle would be on the list.
But he is unanimously, I feel like, on everybody's list here in a D for what he did.
Because I think he was fully appreciated by fans.
Like, you look him up on football reference or whatever, and you're not going to see
a ton, right?
I mean, he made the Pro Bowl twice if you care about that.
But I was glad to see Jack Doyle.
I mean, I'm not surprised to see Jack Doyle on Zax's list.
And I think that he's going to end up on Jake.
He's certainly on mind as well to give you kind of one spoiler there.
Yeah, I will say it came down.
I went back and forth between him and Ryan Kelly.
for the final spot.
Yeah.
It was really tough.
It was a great one.
Yeah, very tough to pick between the two of them.
But I ultimately went with Doyle because I just thought he was a little bit more consistent,
especially in that five-year stretch he had early on there.
Where Kelly, it was a little more ebb and flow.
And I think if we're going overall value, I think just the receiving and the run-blocking
value that you got from Doyle, put him a little bit above there.
But I will say the toughest with my list was certainly the two quarterbacks,
because how do you grade a guy like Rivers who gave you 21 games in the decade?
or even the guy like luck right only what 33 games in the entire decade right like they were great
they led them to the playoffs i mean luck got them their only playoff win in the past decade right so
if you guys have luck is like a top three i could understand it it's just you got two seasons out
of luck from 2016 to 2025 you got one season and then three games this past year out of rivers
in the past decade now those seasons got you to the playoffs so i understand having them higher
but ultimately that's why I came in at like seven and eight for them.
But again, if Jake, we're going to kick it to your list here.
If you have them higher, I completely understand.
Yeah, I do think the quarterbacks were probably the toughest ones to slot in there.
And it is for me, just the two of them.
But I wanted to quickly mention my first couple out because I don't want to not mention them at all.
But I had a really tough time getting Anthony Costanzo, Kenny Moore, and Cyra Franklin into my top 10.
I really would have wanted to, but just the.
These other guys just had a little more pull on me.
So just like you, I had Jack Doyle number 10.
You know, he transcended multiple quarterback regimes.
He helped the Colts passing game somewhat survive through the beginning of Andrew
Lux's chronic injury issues, made a couple Pro Bowls like Derek said.
So Jack Doyle was Mr. Reliable for every quarterback he played with.
A big part of allowing the offense to ever have a heartbeat in the passing game while they
kind of started to go through their quarterback issues in that era. I have Philip Rivers at number
nine, just played a season and a quarter for them. But going back to 2020, the last quarterback
to get them to the playoffs, and then, you know, this last season, the really random three-game
stretch he had, part of that being so impactful for me is they literally still talked about him
in that building last year before he ever came back.
Like a lot of people referenced back to stuff like an impact that Philip Rivers had on
them, whether it was, you know, the work ethic, like something he showed them how to do.
Like so many people harkened back to their experiences with him.
And then lo and behold, he gets dropped back in their lap at the end of the season.
And so Philip Rivers for what he accomplished in that brief one season.
And then, you know, he wasn't the reason they lost all those games at the end of last year either.
So Philip Rivers, you would have liked to see him play longer for them.
But I thought he was really impactful in that small sample size.
Michael Pittman, Jr. coming in at number eight for me was really, really effective as a top receiver for them for a couple of years stretch and was productive.
on the less for a while. That back injury, I feel, really took those last couple years away from
him. But if you look at like his 2021 season with Carson Wentz, for example, was outstanding.
Like Michael Pittman Jr. was a really, really good player. And I thought was a valid, very useful
top receiver target to usher them in from the Ty Wyldin era. Coming in next for me is DeForest Buckner.
he's someone I probably would have wanted to have higher.
And honestly, looking back, it probably should, but, you know, some of the longevity and impact
to some of these other guys.
But he's just obviously been such a dominant force through much of his time with the Colts
was a deserving first round trade swap for them, essentially, always productive, always
played through injuries.
And up until these last couple years, has been able to get through them.
And it sucks that this is the last couple of years that we've seen from him.
And I hope through this neck injury that we see him kind of rebound.
And if this is his last season with the Colts, let it kind of be on his terms rather than just be a shell of himself, a guy that continues to get injured.
But always provided them with an incredible interior pass rush, always harassing the backfield as a run defender, pass rusher just was one of the more invaluable interior guys in the league for a long time.
had T.Y. Hilton coming in next at, what is that, number five, number six.
So this first year on the list, he led the NFL in receiving yards, 2016.
And that was with a lot of other good receivers across the league.
I thought he gave the Colts a few more really good years there.
2016 was great, but I picked back to like 2018 also, that final stretch of the season where he was playing on totally toasted ankles, him and Andrew
luck, just willing the Colts to the playoffs.
His performance down the stretch, again, just absolutely incredible.
The guy couldn't even practice through the home stretch of the season, so that was big.
Ryan Kelly, I think he was the first big piece of changing the offensive line trajectory
for this franchise.
The offensive line was so bad for so long.
And then it's not sexy to spend a first round pick on a center, but I think them getting him
in there really.
really sparked something with Quentin Nelson coming a couple years later.
That was huge for them.
Shaquille Leonard coming up next, like Zach said, unbelievable production for that
first several years of his career.
Four all pros, three pro bowls, you know, defensive rookie of the year, led the NFL
and tackles, broke the Colts franchise tackle record in a season.
So Shaquille Leonard was really, really incredible.
Jonathan Taylor coming in at number three.
might go down as the most productive Colts running back in franchise history.
And that's with a really storied group of guys.
Edgern James, Lenny Moore, Eric Dickerson, Marshall, Falk.
Jonathan Taylor has truly, truly been a special player.
Quentin Nelson coming in number two, again, we just talked about like how much more accomplished could a guy be.
You know what I mean?
He's been in the Pro Bowl every year.
It's been an all-pro all but two years.
is certainly going to be fitted for a gold jacket when all is said and done.
And we're talking about impact guys.
Number one is Andrew Luck.
He only played a couple seasons in this stretch.
But who is the one guy that the excuse has always been?
Well, we're not good anymore because we're still trying to crawl back from Andrew Luck retiring.
So even in his absence, Andrew Luck has had an enormous impact on them.
They spent at least three, four years trying to crawl back out of this,
trying to patchwork things with different quarterbacks that wound up only being one-year
rentals, sometimes one-year failures.
And they still haven't found a quarterback, you know, to stretch this thing along quite yet.
They hope Daniel Jones is the guy.
But Andrew Luck is someone who came back and played the best football of his career in 2018,
getting comeback player of the year, abruptly retires, and then sends this franchise.
into a tailspin. We're talking about impact. That I think is true impact.
My only slight pushback, and I know we're running late here, so we have to get to the next
segment, but my only slight pushback is the 2020 team was better than the 2018 team, like,
much better in my opinion. Yeah, I think so it's hard for me, like, we're only really looking
at the one years of these guys. So it's really hard for me to like put luck that high just because
over the decade, like, yeah, we are still feeling the ramifications of him.
him, but technically shouldn't that lower his impact, right?
His impact on the organization over the last 10 years is leaving them high and dry, right?
And I don't mean this is like a negative thing.
We didn't say it's a positive impact.
Yeah.
It's an impact.
Most impactful then should be Richardson at number one for not working out.
Yeah.
So yeah, maybe.
I don't know.
But taking them through the complete highs and the loads of the impact spectrum is Andrew
love.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, virtually everything that has happened with the cold.
since then you've just felt it, right?
Like, I'm not using that as an excuse.
I think the excuses went out the window a long time ago,
but it's just kind of this cloud that has just hovered over the franchise.
And it'll probably remain until, you know,
they actually get back somewhere and contend and do something again.
So I also kind of like you, Jake,
I took the word impact pretty literally when I compiled my list.
And Alan Pinkin and I are going to get a crack out at next.
We'll continue the conversation over top.

More goals mean more bonus bets.
All you have to do is turn in your token.
Man, you would have loved that for the U.S.
men's national team game against Paraguay, where they end up scoring four goals.
I'm a four spot on the opener.
And while I don't think that that output is going to happen again coming up on Friday against
the Aussies, I think they have a great chance to make another statement.
It's just a one game sample, right?
but one of the best performances in U.S. men's national team history on the biggest stage last week.
And I love them at minus 170 and the over at two and a half goals for the match coming up here on Friday.
Should be a lot of fun.
Tournament soccer is amazing.
It's been a lot of fun to see all the international fans.
How about the Scots going into Fenway Park in Boston?
That was awesome, right?
Enjoying the hospitality and the American hospitality for this giant event.

now. Welcome back, rolling right along here on the Locked On Colts Squad show, 10 years of the
Lockedon Network, and we're celebrating here on this Tuesday edition of the show because we're
hitting on the dot, June 16th, 10 year anniversary locked on network, which you guys all have
come to know and love, notably the Locked on Colts Daily show with Zach Hicks and Jake
Arthur, who joined me alongside former NFLer Alan Pinkett. And Alan, of course, we have to give the caveat.
I mean, you jumped on with us. We're about one year anniversary of Alan Pinkin on Locked
cult, right?
Yes, indeed.
Somewhat of a newcomer as far as following the cults and all of that.
But I know you did your homework here, so I'm looking forward to seeing who you thought
would be on your list for your 10 years of the most impactful cults of the last decade.
Well, let me just start out by saying that, you know, prior to joining Locked-on,
I thought that all the experts were on an ESPN or, you know, shows like that.
But for those guys that listen to Zach and Jake every day, you guys get filled with so much information.
I mean, y'all get – there is no way you can get more knowledge about your team than listening to these two.
So I want to give them their props.
And as much as I think I know football, I didn't know who the hell Jack Doyle was.
And I didn't know who Ryan Kelly was.
And let me state this, that I watched the NFL from afar because I broadcasted college.
So I really put all my energy into college.
So the NFL was more entertainment.
It was great to see these guys I broadcasted in college moved to the next level,
but really didn't study it.
But I was still aware of players.
So my top 10 is going to have some recency bias.
you know, because I've only been here one year, but I think I can justify why each person is at the position that I listed.
And I guess you guys want to go backwards, so I'll go backwards. Number 10, Michael Pittman.
Just the stud, true number one, unfortunate that he built a contract that was backloaded.
And because it was backloaded, they sort of let you know that's when we're going to cut your ass is when we got to pay you the most money.
but struck fear and a lot of defenders, even though in the Shane Steichen system, he was a complimentary piece,
but he was a true stud at the position.
Number nine, and Zach, you won't like this, but I put Clinton Nelson at number nine.
And there are numbers and numbers of reasons why he should be higher.
but I just could not see a list without him on it.
I know nothing gets done without those guys on the offensive line.
But I guess I suffer from some of the skill positions being a skill position player.
Notre Dame, Alan.
And he damn sure was going to get on the list because he's from Notre Dame.
So number eight, I kind of struggle between Zaire Franklin and Shaq Leonard,
and I ended up going with Shaq Leonard.
I wanted to go with Zaire because I guess a year prior to me coming to the Lockdorn Enterprise,
he had made the Pro Bowl, and I really liked his downhill style,
but his style didn't fit
Anarumo's style.
But Shaq Leonard, even though I was watching NFL for entertainment,
Shaq Leonard was entertaining.
I mean, he was just, I would say he was sort of like
how Manteo was with Notre Dame.
It's just, you know, a guy who knew how to tackle, number one.
But, you know, when he came up to make a tackle,
He tackled your ass.
You know, so he's, he's number eight.
Number seven, DeForest Buckner, just a stud to me.
Just one of those body types that I think you walk on the football field and you see him.
It's like, damn, I got to spend the next 60 minutes blocking this dude and his athleticism and his longevity.
And I know he's had the injuries.
but despite those injuries still been very, very impressive.
Number six, and here's your recency bias, Alec Pierce, the Labrador receiver.
I knew you were going to have him on your list.
I knew you were going to be the one who had him on your list.
I think if we do the next 10 years, he hopefully is on that list.
But I, you know, I think he's going to be, he's projecting super well right now.
114 million you better be.
Yes.
Well, I mean, the fact that he averaged what?
over 20 yards of catch.
And how many receivers, how many great receivers in the NFL average more than 20 yards
of catch?
And, you know, to me, he was impactful because there was nothing more important to him
in the world than coming down with that football.
I don't care who was covering him.
I don't care how he had to contort his body.
He was going to make the catch.
So he made the list at number six.
Number five, T.Y. Hilton.
And T.Y. Hilton, to me, was just a continuation of Marvin Harrison.
I think one of the things Peyton Manning established with the Colts was whoever that number one receiver was going to be under Peyton Manning was going to be reliable, was going to be a game breaker.
And to me, T.Y. Hilton was the continuation of Marvin Harrison, if that makes sense.
just, you know, a game breaker. And there was, you know, a couple of the guys before him.
But T.Y. Hilton definitely stood out to me. Number four, I put down Daniel Jones. Again,
recency bias. The way he started off, there was no hotter quarterback in the league.
And unfortunately, the broken leg had an impact, did take away from his over.
overall performance, and then, of course, the Achilles.
But just the way he was able to surgically break down teams and no one had an answer.
He does, since I've only been with the Colts for a year, he definitely made the list.
Number three, Philip Rivers.
And I say Philip Rivers because I looked at the records from the last 10 years, and the best record came in 2020 when they were 11 and 5, who was the quarterback then?
Philip Rivers.
And I mean, you know, his career speaks for itself, the longevity that is.
He had his knowledge of the game.
You know, he was very savvy.
And I kind of like the fact that he didn't cuss.
So that was one thing.
Number two, Jonathan Taylor, you know, I think you had stability in 2016 and 2017 with Frank Gore, although I don't know what team this was for him, but you had stability.
You had, I guess what, Marlon Mack for a couple years, but for the last five years, six years, maybe I should.
should say, stability at running back.
And to me, he's getting better, not worse.
And he may break the bank or he may do a sweetheart deal with the cults coming up.
But in terms of just solid play and, you know, being a bell cow, I don't think there's
anybody i mean we talk about derrick henry and we talk about you know hell and nettie george but to me
they are not as dynamic as a jonathan taylor is and then number one guess who who did i not
mention ashton dulin okay cool let's move on yeah that's he's on my list too alan so that's a good one
good one andrew luck is number one i remember i remember broadcasting
watching this kid play, and he just had an answer for every defense.
He had an answer for every coverage.
He was just a stud.
He was just, he just, that's when I started to realize that, you know, in football,
you either have that guy or you don't have that guy.
And to watch him attack a defense, it was like poetry, you know,
And he was impactful because since him, there's been like eight quarterback changes in the last 10 years.
So it's unfortunate that he got injured because I think he would have had such a glorious, glorious career.
But in the 33 games, he played, he made an impact.
Yeah, no, for sure.
And Derek, do you want to roll through yours?
I think we've covered a lot of just the topics around these guys.
Yeah. We're running a little late on this segment.
You want to go on to you.
I won't keep everybody too long
because there are some repeats in here.
For 10, I'll just admit, I really
struggled between Michael Pittman Jr. and Jack Doyle.
I ended up putting Doyle
on the list. I just, you know,
Pimittman Jr. is very productive, not very dynamic,
not that Jack Doyle was, but Doyle
played on both of the playoff teams, whereas
Pittman Jr. only played on one, and that was the tiebreaker for me.
And a bit of found money. You know, local kid, UDFA,
I, you know, I lean towards those aspects.
the story. I'm just going to throw a Maltov cocktail on the whole thing in number nine.
I promise that my list is better after this. I think Carson Wentz is one of the top 10 most
impactful players. He started a domino effect that created a Colts downward spiral from a
trustworthy, even banner type franchise into a forgettable slash mismanaged one.
There was just something about him that just completely sent the late Jim Ursay off the
deep end. And it caused him to overreact essentially for 18 straight months.
And it nuked two seasons.
I mean, really, it nuked the end of 2021.
And it nuked 2022.
It cost Frank Reich his job.
It kickstarted the process of getting off the veteran Mary go around and taking the leap with Anthony
Richardson, which also didn't work out.
I just think there was a big after effect of Carson Wentz.
Kenny Moore at number eight, three-time Coltsman of the year.
I put him on the list on some of the others that I cut because he had a bunch of
pick sixes.
He was a top slot corner for a long time.
so I think he was a little bit more dynamic.
I took Rivers, Uncle Phil at seven.
Jake, I think you said it beautifully.
This, what happened last year would have never happened unless the respect level for him was just through the roof in there.
And I understand Shane Stike and some of that predates Indianapolis, right?
But still, Rivers 2020 season is also aged like a fine wine compared to what's happened since.
Remember how we were talking about Rivers in the moment compared to now how we talk about that season now?
People were much more critical of him back then than they are now.
DeForest Buckner.
Mr. Reliable in the middle of the Colts defense.
I've got him at number six,
also a vocal and trusted player in that locker room, too.
My man, T.Y.
Number five, best season as a pro, arguably in 2016.
He had a really underrated 2017 with Tolzeen
and a brand new Jacoby Brissette.
And he was the best receiver in a absolutely awful receiver room
in 18, 19, and 20.
And I think he deserves some credit for there,
even though, you know, he was kind of skidding to the finish
a little bit at the end of his career.
Shaq Leonard for impact.
I know it was a short window.
Looked to be on a Hall of Fame path before.
Obviously, it all went to hell.
I've got him in number four.
The only reason I put Nelson three is because of the position that he played,
129 of a possible 133 games.
So he's been there rock.
I actually had luck to because, again, I think the after effects, the ripple effects,
he has to be up there.
I know much to Zach's chagrin.
And to me, you know, Taylor's got to be number one
because he's the most dynamic of the productive Colts players.
He's been a legitimate MVP threat.
never say that about Quentin Nelson or, you know, some of these others that we've talked about
here. And it's a shame we never say that about Quentin Nelson. It's a shame we never say this
about offensive linemen. Also, I still think when you're just talking about moments of the last
10 years, man, that that walk-off run against New England is really like the rose.
Yeah, the rose amongst the thorns, right? And then I think the walk-off in Berlin would crack the top five.
What did you guys say at the top last 10 years?
Of individual player, like player moments, like plays and player moments,
like outside of, I mean, there are a couple really good Kenny Moore plays and
Daris Leonard, Shaquille Leonard plays.
But yeah, Taylor certainly has the most.
In researching the last 10 years, speaking of that last decade, it's just kind of fully
set it on me, how tough the last 10 years of Colts football has been.
How tough?
Well, we're going to talk it out as a group when the Colts Squad show returns next.

I never took guitar lessons, but I kind of like the little jam there that
we've got going for the 10-year anniversary wipes in and out.
Thanks so much for joining us on the old squad show.
We're celebrating 10 years of the Locked-on Network,
June 16th in 2016.
And look what the network has become.
I mean, I know you guys have expanded past just the Colts Network,
but, you know, all these teams, we got NBA squad shows.
We got Major League Baseball.
We got league shows locked on NFL.
It's incredible.
The content that is being churned out here now 10 years later,
we appreciate you being part of our little side of the lockdown world here at
Locked-on Colts and the Locked-on Colts squad show.

So, guys, you know, we're kind of mentioning it when you talk about this particular group of
years in 2016 to 2025, which we just obviously closed the book on at the end of last season.
Just two playoff appearances, Zach, just one win.
And I think when you look at, you know, some of that, like, scarred at the early end by the Andrew Luck injuries.
And then in the middle, right, the bomb goes off and he ends up walking away.
And it looked like the Colts, you know, 2019, I know that the season kind of fizzled out at the end.
But there were some fun moments in there.
And certainly they weren't in bad shape.
2020 rivers comes in and seems to kind of steady the ship among others.
And I still think exiting the 2020 season, people felt good about the Bowerd-Rike,
trajectory. That changed quickly. Frank Reich is fired a year and a half later. Chris
Howard obviously is still here with not a lot of results, but, you know, Colts fans still
kind of waiting. I, you know, I don't think anybody thought the AFC South drought would last
this long, forget Super Bowls and things like that. But, but here we are now, now 10 years later.
Yeah, I mean, I think they have what the third longest playoff drought in the NFL currently
because the Panthers were just ahead of them and they made the playoffs this past year.
So the third longest playoff drought and they've had the same GM throughout the entire
I've won the entirety of that playoff drought.
So, yeah, it's certainly a crazy place to beat right now with the Colts.
I think the best way to summarize the past 10 years of the Indianapolis Colts
is that Jake and I did a top 10 storylines in moments of Colts of the last 10 years for
the Colts, right?
That's what we did on our daily show today.
One of them was a football moment and it was giving up the biggest lead in the history of the sport, right?
It's crazy for your organization to be in a place where the most notable things about your team over the last 10 years are like the Jersey Shore like headlines, right?
And like the Kardashian headlines, right?
Because we're not talking about like, look, Jonathan Taylor's run against the Patriots was awesome, right, a couple years ago.
They didn't make the playoffs that year, whatever, but it was a great run, right?
It felt good.
You know, Taylor having some good moments and Kenny Moore's two pick six game was awesome, right?
but that's not more notable or more like juicy than like you know they had their quarterback retire at 29
years old they had two players get injured before a game started last year they had an interim head coach who
his only experience was coaching high school football and he was a bad high school coach becoming their
interim head coach right like they had parks fraser calling plays a guy who was the assistant
coffee getter for the team calling offensive plays for a
games that season. Like, this team has been just a disaster for the last 10 years.
It, like, maybe they haven't been like Cleveland Browns bad, right? They've been more around
that middle of the road. You can argue if that's better or worse, right? Like, like, middle
the road is the worst place to be in the NFL. But they've had the drama and just the, again,
like the weird headlines and just goofiness of, like, again, like more reality TV show than
a football team. So if I think the one way to really just summarize the last
10 years for the Colts is just reality TV like goofiness, right?
It's not even like, we're not even talking about the football here.
It's always, it's always something, whether it's changing quarterbacks because, you know,
this guy wasn't good enough or this guy retired or this guy retired, like, you know,
or changing all these quarterbacks year after year, whether it's contract negotiations,
requires trade after they get off the bus with the owner and stuff.
Like, it's been the goofiest 10 years that you could really think of.
and really the only notable on-field achievement was giving up the biggest lead in the history of the sport,
33 points against the Minnesota Vikings in that 2022 season.
So, yeah, this 10 years for the Colts, I think we're going to look back really poorly on it historically.
Again, it's not, you're not like at like the Hugh Jackson, Cleveland Browns level, right?
Where you're winning like one game over a two-year stretch.
But it's pretty embarrassing to have this long of a playoff drought.
continually having the same GM throughout all of it,
and having more drama off the field than success on the field.
That's a horrible indictment on the organization.
So, yeah, I don't think these 10 years are going to be viewed favorably for the Colts.
We wanted to be a more positive show earlier today, but like, how we're talking
top 10 significant moments.
Like, nothing significant has been positive over the last 10 years for the Colts.
Yeah, and it's tough.
I mean, I'll be the old guy in the room here real quick before, and Jake, I know you were around
the team or at least follow them.
But I can tell you, and Zach, it probably feels like it's always been this way.
There was a time where it was the complete opposite.
This franchise was right up there with the Steelers and the Patriots and the 49, you know,
the most respected, stable, well-run franchises, you know, we're not that far removed
from that.
And that's what kind of sticks out to me, Jake, about the last 10 years is that, you know,
forget the on-field stuff.
Yeah, it sucks to be 7 and 9, 8, and 8, or whatever else are like hovering around there.
it's just the fact that the cults have drawn headlines of being, you know,
what the hell are they doing?
And you never dealt with that in the early 2000s.
I mean, it harkens back to, if we've got some really old-time listeners,
harkens back to the old days, the old old days, the old old days,
the Bob Ursay days of the Colts in the 80s and 90s where there was that much disjunction.
Yeah, without a doubt.
And I mean, some of that can kind of get swept under the rug if you're winning,
but they're not.
They're just, they're just treading water, you know, they've, Chris Ballard's built a roster good enough to be competitive and just whatever, but it hasn't had that quarterback to get them to the next level.
So they've become a rather irrelevant and it amplifies all the circus stuff.
You know what I mean?
And there's been just like a bizarre amount of that.
Like there's so many things other teams don't have to deal with.
Teams that are laughing stocks don't have to deal with some of this stuff.
you know what I mean like like Zach said you know JT and and jimmer say on the bus and then
Jonathan requesting a trade right after that Mooney Ward and Anthony Richardson both getting
injured seriously before a game has even begun like all of this insane so like every single
thing with the Anthony Richardson saga becoming the quarterback retirement home like this has been
such a the Jeff Saturday thing was I don't know that.
that will ever be topped in terms of just loony tunes projection over to the NFL world.
Absolutely.
But like it's just been so, so crazy.
And I think before when you talk about stability and everything like that, Derek, there was.
So Jim Mersey normally was always, he delegated and he let his smart football people do their thing.
and there was no one who would like led with an iron fist more than like Bill Pollyan did, you know, but they were getting results with Bill Pullian.
And it's just not the same right now.
I don't think it's going to, I don't think they're going to be one of those plagued franchises that's constantly searching for stability and success like some of these other, like the Bears and the Browns and the Panthers and the Cardinals, like all these teams that are always irrelevant.
Like, I do think Carly or say is going to get them back on the right track.
But I think this season is going to be very telling.
I don't think everyone's going to be able to survive without having a productive year this year.
And if they do, then I think that is going to lose so many people in the fan base.
Like, I think a lot of people are going to check out on that.
But, yeah, we're going to have to see everyone kind of.
put their money where their mouth is and show that accountability actually exists in the franchise.
Well, I had to go back and look at the records over the last 10 years, and I think if you were a
cults fan, if you had to come up with one word for your experience, watching the Colts, I would
probably have to say it's heartbreak. You know, yet one playoff win. And how about even
make the playoffs, and then a couple four and 12s in there, you know, you want to talk about
a long season.
I was on a, did we play 16?
Yeah, we play 16.
I was on a four and 12 team.
And trust me, it was no good for the players either, especially not good for the fans,
because you get in the game and, you know, things just start going wrong.
And it's like, here we go again.
and there was no fight in you to try and, you know, make the game turn another way.
But at least, you know, you go four and 12, you bounce back with a 10 and 6.
In 2018, you go 4 and 12 and 22, but you bounce back with a 9 and 8.
You know, so at least there's some hope there for the fans.
And I think after my one year being with the Colts and seeing this offense perform at a level that the rest of the league couldn't understand, makes me think that there are better days ahead for this group.
But if you've been a fan for 10 years, it's been a roller coaster ride.
but you ended up getting stuck on the way up on the hill and they can't bring the roller coaster down.
I mean, yeah, that's certainly one way to look at it with how it feels.
And, you know, I think really the problem lately with the Colts roller coaster is that, you know,
when you get in the roller coaster, you're expecting like the climb and then you kind of go down and you get to
your arms up and everybody's just kind of standing the roller coaster like this and it's just
going in a straight line. You know what I mean? Like when you're going eight and nine, nine and eight
every year, like there's no there's no climb, there's no anticipation, there's no drop, there's no
fun. It's just you're on the ride and it's going straight. And I think there's just a frustration
that comes from that too more than anything else. Like we all know about heartbreak and we know about,
you know, having hope and then getting it ripped away. I think one thing that Colts fans have really
struggled with is just fighting off apathy because you feel like you're just watching the same thing on a loop over and over again.
And that even dates back to 2015 and 2016, like the start of this, this stretch that we're talking about here with those eight and eight seasons where luck wasn't fully healthy and you know, you're kind of stuck in the middle.
And I mean, I remember the wild celebration they had beating Jacksonville, Jake.
I remember that game and they came back in week 17 and you're like, this game doesn't even matter.
What are these guys going crazy about? And you kind of realize, man, of the last 10 years, that's,
sadly as it is, that's probably one of the more memorable Colts wins and just an indication of sadly where the franchise is, where we speak right now.
We'll get into some, I don't know if I'd say happier things, but we're not going to talk about the last 10 years anymore.
We come back. Could the Colts take a quarterback flyer on the most talked about quarterback in the country the last few weeks?
We're going to discuss when the Colts Squad Show returns for a final time.

Sometimes it's about finding the right person who fits exactly what the team needs at the right moment.
I think some of what we talked about at the beginning of the show
when we were going over our top 10 lists
and some of those impact cults like Quentin Nelson or Shaquille Leonard.
Nelson was a guard.
I remember people saying,
you can't take a guard at number six overall.
And Shaquille Leonard at the time was viewed as a reach.
It's like, who's this guy?
Why are the Colts using a second round pick on him?
Yet both played at an all pro level,
made an impact immediately in Indianapolis,
and they were perfect and seamless fits for those Colts teams.

Thanks so much for joining us. We've got a very active comment section today. So we
appreciate Rambo and Brian and the rest of the crew. I know Zach's been jumping in there.
Jake's been jumping in there a little bit to interact with you fans. And don't forget
about that every day or club that we plugged already. Guys, moving on from looking back
on the last 10 years for Lockdown, the Lockdowns 10 year anniversary here on Lockdown Colts.
Brendan Sorsby looks like he's going to be on,
Zach's already shaking, he said.
Going to the pros.
NFL supplemental draft,
which is kind of one of those like weird things that I think people know
exist,
but it so rarely happens.
There hasn't been one in the last,
sorry,
no one's been taken in the last six years.
We haven't even had one since 2023,
yet Sorsby is going to throw his name into the pile there.
But ESPN's been so lack,
mentioned the Colts as a team that could have interest in taking him.
Quote, the Colts might need a plan as Daniel Jones to your contract has a trapdoor after
26 should his rehab from an Achilles injury go poorly.
Zach, I already know how you feel, but, you know, are you at least under the impression
that the Colts should, you know, turn over every rock and stone in looking for their
long-term quarterback or is just stay the hell away from.
Sure.
Sure, you should.
Turn over every rock and stone.
I'm telling you that you turned this one over and didn't find anything with this one.
I mean, look, when we're ultimately talking about positions that need maturity and need, you know,
you can't have anything wrong mentally, I guess, to be successful at, right?
It's the quarterback position, right?
The quarterback position.
How many super, super talented players have we seen come up short because they just weren't mentally there?
I mean, so many bused quarterbacks.
I mean, look, Anthony Richard.
is struggling for the Colts right now.
And I'm not trying to say that his stuff is the same as Swordsby's right because
very different situations here.
But you need to be locked in 24-7, seven days a week.
Like it has to be nonstop locked in for you to even have a chance at being a good
quarterback in this league.
And now we're talking about a quarterback who spent the last month arguing that he is
very weak mentally and that he couldn't.
And I'm not even trying to make light of mental.
health and stuff here.
But when you bring it all into the public in this court setting that he was where
it was like it would be detrimental to his mental health if he can't be around Texas Tech football,
just to leave Texas Tech football the next day after he gets that injunction ordered,
where he bet over $90,000 over the last four seasons, including betting on the under with
his, I mean, look, I know Indiana was not going to hit the over in those games.
So it's probably good, probably the best bets he made.
But betting on your team, you've got to protect the shield here a little bit.
right, the integrity of sports.
You can't have players betting on games they're directly involved in or at least that they have inside knowledge on here.
So, yeah, I think it's absurd.
I just don't think this guy is where you want a quarterback in the NFL to be mentally or maturity-wise.
And also just his film wasn't very good either.
Like, he's big and athletic with a big arm.
Like, I understand the NFL is going to fall in love with that type 24, like 24 times out of 100.
Sorry, late in the show here, but yeah, it just doesn't make any sense for me.
I don't know why I would even remotely consider this quarterback.
I mean, he could, I know that his agents are pushing it out there like, oh, he was in
consideration for the first overall pick in this past draft.
No, he wasn't.
Why do you think he went to Texas Tech?
He would have declared for the draft if he was in any consideration for a top 50 pick in
this past draft.
So no, he was not remotely considered that kind of guy.
You're talking about him highly now because he's the only quarterback, the talk about.
Yeah, there's no chance I would take this shot on this player.
Look, look, turn over everything, go to the CFL, call up anybody to try to find your quarterback.
Roster 30 quarterbacks in the offseason and just see if these guys can work.
But this is something I'm not touching with a 10-foot pole.
And also the Colts, I mean, look, the Colts had a guy get caught with gambling issues a couple years ago.
And he was a very good player for their team, and they didn't waste any time cutting him.
They got him off the team ASAP and it kind of burnt them a little bit, but they took that stand against the player who made it a fraction of the bets of what we're talking about here.
So, no, I think at quarterback is just a position you can't take a risk like this.
And gambling is a very serious thing, especially when it comes to the integrity of the game and stuff like that.
I'm not saying it's the most serious thing because I know a lot of the bad faith arguments have been like the NFL can.
cares more about this in domestic violence, which certainly could be true.
I'm not saying this is worse than that or anything.
It's just I think at the quarterback position, you need a level of maturity and mental
preparedness that's just not shown there with Sorsby.
And he already wasn't a good enough prospect to declare for this past draft.
So you're adding more problems on top of a guy that the NFL already wasn't that
interested in.
So no chance.
I'm not touching this with the 10 foot pole.
Let him go to some other team.
him be out of the NFL in three years, and then he can start his UFC career, you know,
in a couple years after that. No chance I'm touching this, though.
Yeah, same. The Colts will look into him because he is the singular player available,
so all 32 teams will be looking into him. You know, the Colts will have ample resources
inside I use facilities and inside Cincinnati's facilities to find out everything they need
to know about him. And I still don't expect them to come out of this making any bid.
for him whatsoever.
You know, like Zach said, they've already been down this road before with a corner
and they immediately got rid of him.
You think Shane Steichen wants a guy at quarterback who's worried about anything but football,
let alone betting on football.
And I think the optics of having a quarterback with that kind of,
like you're always going to think of any time, every game that Swar'sbee plays,
people are going to be thinking about that.
and he quarterback is the position that touches the ball the most on the football field every play
people are going to be like how does this you know his betting how does this affect you know what he's
doing out there and everything surrounding the NFL anymore is sports betting it's getting bigger
all the time it's not shrinking whatsoever so his exposure to that is even going to be more
prevalent all the time and yeah i mean if he was some elite prospect even i just don't think he would
be worth that. You know what I mean? They've just, the Colts especially specifically, I just
feel like know better. Let this be something the Browns go do or like maybe Miami wants to go
have a nice little project behind Malik Willis or something. But this I don't think is going to be
anything the Colts are willing to look into whatsoever. They know better. Well, I mean,
there's other issues besides Sorsby, you know, one of the things that,
I thought about was does the NCAA have any jurisdiction over college football?
They made a ruling.
And then the school just decided, well, we're going to do what we want to do.
We'll go see a judge.
And then, you know, from there, the conference started screaming.
And then the Texas Attorney General came out and said, well, if you want to, you know, not play Texas Tech, we'll sue you.
and it'll come to the tune of about $200 million.
And at some point, I guess Sorsby came to a census and realized that him playing this year for Texas Tech would not have been a blessing.
It would have been a curse that everywhere they would have gone.
He would have to carry that thing around his neck and it would just be a burden everywhere he went.
that he'd go to an opposing stadium.
And everybody in the stands with have a sign saying, hey, bet on this, bet on that.
You know, so here's sort of my thing.
I don't know if he'll play it down in the NFL because I don't know if you can trust him.
You know, and if he had to go to rehab when he went to Texas Tech,
what the hell happened at Cincinnati?
Did Cincinnati already know about this?
And because he didn't stay for his senior year and opted to take money to go someplace else,
Cincinnati was going to scream on him and say, hey, we know about you Betty.
And I don't know that that is all speculation.
This has been going on for like four years.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's spanned multiple different schools.
Indiana could have ratted on him too if they knew because he was.
doing it at Indiana as well.
Yeah, so I just, I don't know if you can, and that quarterback position, you know,
I agree with you, Zach, you need a grownup and you need somebody who's serious.
You control the organization.
Most squads will build their entire organization down to the janitor around somebody who can
support the quarterback.
I saw it happen at Green Bay.
Everybody got in line.
And when they found Brett Farr, it's like everybody just were going to do it.
But he was committed to being a quarterback.
He was also committed doing some knucklehead things.
But when he was on the field, you know, he was serious about football.
So I don't know if the NFL even wants to mess with this.
And yes, he probably would have been better off.
I hate to say, if there was a domestic violence type of thing.
You know, but the betting, now you're messing with people's money.
You know, that is kind of serious.
And but all you need is one team to love you.
I mean, ask Tim Tebow.
All you need it was one team to love you.
And somebody may take that chance.
But I agree with you also that if he was that good,
he would have declared coming out of Cincinnati.
Yeah, I mean, I just think,
it's one of those things, and this is going to sound crass, because obviously gambling,
as you guys have mentioned, is not as serious as some of these other crimes. I mean, we've seen
the videotape of what Ray Rice did, right? We heard about what Ray Carruth did. You know what I mean?
But really, the one unforgivable sin in all of sports is taking into question the integrity
of the game. And it's just going to follow Soresby wherever he goes. I mean, there was no way he could
play college football this year. But I just don't know, even in the NFL, that's going to
follow him. Every time he throws an interception, people are going to be like, hey, is this,
is this on the level? Is this game? Is this serious? I mean, did he do that intentionally?
Or, you know, and that just throws everything else into question. And so I can see why,
if you're the Colts or you're, if anybody else, even if you were intrigued by him from a talent
standpoint, you'd look and say, no, no way am I touching that? I mean, he's checking himself
into a mental facility for mental health reasons regarding his addiction
to betting. Like, it's a serious enough issue to where he at least had to acknowledge it,
whether it's because people advise him to do it or because of whatever, but it's a serious
enough thing where he's checking itself in to a mental health facility. And even with the
injunction that was ruled, he had to meet with multiple counselors with that injunction and
constantly only be, like, on football and be monitored not to be on his phone for these
betting sites and stuff. So it's a major, major issue with him right now. It's not the biggest
issue in the world. Again, I really want to stipulate this that there are bigger issues right here.
But when it comes to what the NFL cares about, whether it's good or bad here that we're talking
about, what the NFL cares about is protecting that shield. And that's why we see these gambling
suspensions be much, much longer than other suspensions with these teams. But it's a very
important issue with the NFL. I am curious to see where he, I'm like really intrigued to see where
he goes, right? Because again, this is a major issue, $90,000 in bets over the last four seasons
as a college player before he was even making a ton of money. And we have seen the NFL kind of,
you know, I don't know, should I say the C word collude in the past with each other about,
you know, with certain issues. So we could certainly see them skip him all together or I could
see a team like a Cleveland or Miami who's just like, oh, who cares. Let me, let's do what we can.
to get a quarterback and taking him way higher than anybody else should.
So I think it can be really anywhere with where he goes.
But I know I wouldn't even remotely go that route.
It's just like this isn't like he made one bet.
You know, this is hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of bets,
including the teams he was playing on.
It's just, I mean, again, at the quarterback,
this was a different position.
Maybe you could take a shot.
But quarterback, I can't touch that at quarterback.
And he didn't say, I'm just some dumb kid.
he said, I have a real problem.
Yeah.
So, you know, that's a legit problem.
I mean, I'm glad he said that at least because he does have a real problem.
Yeah.
I mean, we'll leave it there, I guess.
