You are Locked On Colts, your daily Indianapolis Colts podcast.
Part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day.
Hello everyone, welcome to the latest episode of Locked On Colts, part of the Locked On Podcast Network.
Today's live is your host Evan Sidery, flying solo today here.
As we're going to talk through the Colts' massive win with huge playoff implications over the Las Vegas Raiders, 44-27.
A lot of great moments in this one, and if you all remember from the last episode I did by myself, I really did a shorter condensed episode,
more so focusing on the key moments of the game,
my personal stars of the game as well.
I think a lot of Colts fans know who those guys are.
We're going to hit on those as well.
And then close the show talking through the current playoff odds
and predictions where the Colts could land.
And there's even a scenario where the Colts could even finish
as the number two seed in the AFC.
But let's start off with the game on Sunday in Vegas.
The Colts had a huge game in this one, 44-27 over Las Vegas Raiders.
They improved to 9-4 on the season, and Vegas drops to 7-6.
And pretty much out of the playoff picture the rest of the way with how the AFC is stacking
up, you have the Ravens with five losses, you have the Dolphins with five losses.
A lot of key games coming up here in the AFC and the Colts winning this
one pretty much locks in a playoff spot for Indy in the 2021
playoffs. But you have to say, I mean, it was a shootout in the
first half of this game. We saw it be a tie game, 17-17 at
halftime. Really a crucial, crucial game for the
Colts and the offense showed up right away. The
defense, though, very much struggled early on. They couldn't get pressure at all on Derek Carr,
and that stood throughout the game, getting zero sacks on Carr. There was really no pass rush at
all. The secondary got torn apart at points. Nelson Aguilar, the former Eagle, had 100 yards
and a touchdown. Darren Waller, who's one of the best Titans in the NFL, had a great game,
seven catches, 75 yards on 10 targets, and even have Foster Moreau, the LSU second
year pro tight end, where he really beat Kenny Moore on a mismatch and was able to outrun
him. And Julian Blackman took a bad angle. Just a really sloppy first half for the defense,
but the offense luckily was firing all cylinders throughout most of that game. You had Jonathan
Taylor, who was a man amongst boys in this one.
20 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns.
An elite 7.5 yards per carry.
As you all remember, that 62-yard touchdown run.
We're going to have Taylor here in a little bit as well.
Phillip Rivers is continuing to be a very efficient quarterback
and really looking like a top 10, top 12 quarterback in the NFL.
Consistently week in and week out after a year where many thought he'd
be washed up and really rinsed away in Indianapolis but that's definitely not been the case so far
19 of 28 for 244 yards two touchdowns wasn't even touched in this game he had 85.9 QB rating as well
Rivers is just continuing to look like a great signing I mean we talked all last year
about Jacoby Bursette just the inefficiencyfficiency with him, the lack of taking risks, the lack of
really commanding the offense. And Rivers, his one-year deal is
looking just like everything is coalescing into exactly what they've wanted so far.
He's catching his groove after a shortened offseason due to COVID-19, no preseason
as well. The lack of rhythm we saw early on in the season, but with the way Rivers
is playing, it's apparent that he's really finding a groove right now at the exact
perfect time they want to see. November-December football leading into January. If Rivers
keeps playing like this, the Colts are going to be, I think, one of the best teams in the AFC
and have a legitimate shot, I think, to be the second best team in the AFC behind
Kansas City as well, the way that everything's stacking up right now. He's going to also be
one of my second stars of the game, too.
We'll hit on Rivers later on in the show.
T.Y. Hilton, five catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
T.Y. has been on fire the last couple weeks.
I think it's safe to say he will be back in a Colts uniform next year.
After I admit, I might have been unleading that train, honestly,
as far as not wanting to keep T.Y. around the way he was looking
in earlier parts of the season.
But T.Y. is definitely looking the part right now.
He looks like a number one wide receiver.
He's a very good combo with Michael Pittman Jr. and P.J. had a good game as well.
But T.Y. is really waking up out of nowhere with this one.
I think it might just be the chemistry of Phillip Rivers is starting to really show
through now more consistently.
We see every week now T.Y. is getting more and more targets.
Rivers feels more comfortable getting the ball.
After early on this season, we saw so much tight end usage
with Trey Burton, Jack Doyle, Naeem Hines getting the ball as well.
But now, it's more so T.Y.'s the number one. He's the alpha receiver.
You get him the ball almost two or three touches every single quarter and let him
do his thing. That's exactly what we saw on Sunday. He had that huge breakaway touchdown.
Busted coverage. He was able to get by the defense. He had Trayvon Mullen really on his
heels the whole game as well. Mullen couldn't stand a chance against T.Y. on some routes that
he ran. And Jonathan Abram, I mean, we saw some dirty hits from the Raiders' safety in this one.
It just wasn't a good look for Abram. And T.Y., whenever he was matched up on Abram, he just
straight up torched him. We saw in that deep ball, like I mentioned. But even so, we saw guys like Zach Paschal have their way against Abram.
So it's kind of fun just to see the way the Colts attack the weak Raiders secondary
and their lack of pass rush.
They were able to really just beat them on all phases of the game.
The Raiders defense, they were just terrible in this one.
I think it's safe to say in this one.
They actually fired their defensive coordinator, Paul Gunther, after this game ended.
The Colts had 456 total yards of offense in this one.
They also had over 200-plus yards of rushing the first time this year.
They've had that happen thanks to Jonathan Taylor's big game
and Rivers, like we mentioned, just very efficient,
almost eight yards per play for the Colts' offense in this game
on nine total drives, which really just goes to show you
just how magnificent this Colts' offense was
as they were in a full rhythm throughout this game.
And I think it's really telling to me with the way the Colts are playing right now
over the last couple months.
They were 6-2 in their last eight games,
only stumbling against the Ravens, who look like a really good team, obviously.
The Titans are one of the best teams in the AFC as well.
And both those games, I mean, the Ravens, I think, was more so,
I think it was flukish with the way they were playing in that game.
You see how just out of rhythm the offense was in the first drive.
But the Ravens look like a legit playoff team.
But also against the Titans, we saw COVID-19 really just ramp up against the Colts in that game.
You have no Bobby Okereke due to injury.
You have no Kari Willis.
You have no Anthony Costanzo.
You really have a lot of guys missing that game.
Note to Forrest Buckner, too.
I mean, that was one of those games where you just had to
hope the Colts could stay in that game. Of course, it got blown out in their own field.
Outside of those two moments, I can really only think back with the way Cleveland's
played as well this year. They are now 9-4 in the 5 seed. They're right
there with the Colts in the playoff standings right ahead of them thanks to their tiebreaker with the win in Cleveland
they had this year. I think it's fair to say that the Colts in the playoff standings right ahead of them, thanks to their tiebreaker with a win in Cleveland they had this year. I think it's fair to say that the Colts only have one bad loss this year,
and that's week one in Jacksonville.
That bugaboo continues to show for them.
Just the house of whores down in Jacksonville.
Who knows why that happened, but if the Colts would have won that game,
I think it's fair to say they might be in the 3C right now
with Buffalo right behind them.
And they could be really in the driver's seat for that second seed
with the way Pittsburgh's playing. And also Buffalo Buffalo I think Buffalo is really hit or miss but they're really finding a groove
right now but looking at this Colts game on Sunday against the Vegas Raiders just I think it's fair
to say is the most entertaining and the most dominant showing the Colts have seen this year
like maybe Detroit might have been the other game but I think it was a lot more sloppy as far as
that game went it really took a lot more sloppy as far as that game went.
It really took them a lot more time to get going offensively, too, in that game.
Defense struggled early on, too, before they really cranked it up against Matt Stafford.
In this game, though, outside of the first half for the defense where they couldn't get pressure,
that was a whole game, like I mentioned.
The running game for the Raiders, though, was just absolutely shut down.
They couldn't do anything.
Josh Jacobs was not 100% in this game for Vegas,
but they were not able to do anything against this Colts defense.
Josh Jacobs only finished with 49 yards on 13 carries,
less than four yards per carry.
It just goes to show you that the Colts' rushing defense,
it's crazy to say compared to years past,
they really are one of the better rushing teams against the run in the NFL.
This episode is brought to you by 1010.

and you can preview exclusively at BlueNile.com.
Again, that is BlueNile.com.
You have DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart up front there as well,
really clogging things up in the middle.
You have Darius Leonard roaming free.
You have Kenny Moore, Kari Willis coming out of the box as well.
This Colts defense really looks like a part of a team that could really do some damage
in January and really in Vegas on Sunday.
You saw the recipe for what could happen.
If the offense finds a rhythm, if the defense plays more consistently, like we saw in the
second half, the Raiders only scored 13 points, and they had a garbage-time touchdown late
from Derek Carr in the red zone, just running it in.
So the Colts didn't allow a touchdown in the second half until right near the very end of that one,
less than a minute to go.
And we saw the Colts obviously walk out of there with a 17-point win.
But let's hit on real quick, speaking on the defense, Kenny Moore's interception.
I mean, he's going to be my first star of this game,
and you can't not start with Kenny Moore with the way he played on Sunday.
A really rough first, I'd say, one-and-a-half course for Kenny Moore.
Darren Waller got him a few times.
But the way Waller is, though, just a mismatched nightmare.
I think a lot of guys would have trouble against Darren Waller.
But that Foster Moreau touchdown was all on Kenny Moore and Julian Blackman.
Just a really rough one where he was kind of getting targeted by Derek Carr a lot
in that first 15 minutes of that game.
But afterwards, though, I mean, that interception,
Odell Beckham-esque, like Michael Jordan logo jump man-esque,
like the way he was able to sky high
and really in the middle of his jump
do a one-handed grab while really acting like a center fielder,
easily creates this interception this season.
I'm re-watching it right now, actually.
Just looking at the way that Moore is able to read and react to this.
He backtracks and goes one-handed with his right hand.
Snatches it out of the air.
You see Kenny Moore's full wingspan on display there.
Being only 5'9", his wingspan really shows through on that one.
The best play for the Colts defense all year.
I think the best interception we've seen in a very long time in the NFL.
It's really the defensive version of Odell Beckham,
which is crazy to say.
I mean, with Kenny Moore's size, that really is
exactly what happened. The way you're able to
see him just glide up like that
and make that play,
just truly special stuff. I mean, we all know
in Indianapolis that Kenny Moore should be an all-pro
Pro Bowl-type player, but with the lack
of respect for nickel cornerbacks in this league,
Kenny Moore does not get the national love he deserves.
I think maybe finally after this viral play, he'll start to get that
because I think it's fairly consistent week in and week out
that Kenny Moore is the best nickel corner in the NFL.
Chris Bauer paid him a year early like he is that.
We've seen it the last couple years.
And Kenny Moore so far is proving it this year with the way he's played.
Just absolutely magnificent so far for Kenny Moore this year.
59 tackles, 4 interceptions, which is a career high for Kenny Moore.
He also has a forced fumble, which you saw on Sunday.
Really a huge play that Kenny Moore made.
Getting Hunter Renfro, that forced fumble on him.
The Raiders are starting to drive a little bit.
We're closing in on making that a two-score game.
With that play by Kenny Moore, it really just locked the door shut pretty much
on them being able to do much at all in that game. You see just the way that Moore
consistently, week in and week out, he's right there. He's a pillar of the Colts defense
with Darius Leonard, DeForest Buckner. I think Kenny Moore is right there.
Add in Julian Blackman, who had a very strong first half of the season. He's still doing
great football.
But I think it's fair to say Kenny Moore is the third best player on this Colts team.
That's really no debate about it right now.
Buckner, Leonard, and Moore, three playmakers on each level of your defense.
That's really a way to build a sustainable, long-term, elite defense.
That's exactly what the Colts have right now.
And Kenny Moore had his really, truly national breakout game, I feel like.
Hopefully he gets those Pro Bowl votes this year.
Hopefully he gets some All-Pro love as well.
We'll have to see on that.
But with the way that Kenny Moore is playing right now,
I think it's fair to say that he's really finding a groove.
And that contract, I know he signed last year,
it's looking like a bargain even in year one of that, which goes to show you, excuse me, in year two of that,
which goes to show you exactly how good of a player Kenny Moore truly is.
He is our first star of the game in this one.
Let's hit on Phillip Rivers, who, again, just doing exactly what the Colts are asking him
to do.
68% completion percentage, 244 yards and two touchdowns, almost a 120 quarterback rating.
That's back-to-back weeks now.
Rivers is nearly 120 QBR.
He had a Texans game.
He had almost 78% of his passes, had two touchdowns, no picks.
But in Phillip Rivers' last eight games, his play has been incredible.
I mean, compared to the first half of the year, first quarter of the year, excuse me,
he had four touchdowns and five interceptions in the Colts' first five games.
In this one, though, his last eight games, after the really ugly loss in Cleveland,
he's turned on to another level.
He's 67 completion percentage, 16 touchdowns and 4 interceptions,
6-2 record for the Colts over that span. Rivers has been exactly what the Colts need
at the quarterback position, like I mentioned at the top of the show. Just accuracy,
command of the offense, poise, leadership. He brings it all to the table.
I think it's fair to say that Phillip Rivers will be back as the Colts quarterback next year.
I'd be honestly stunned at this point if Rivers is not back because with the way he's able
to command this offense, just the way he's able to find a rhythm with Frank Reich, it
shows week in and week out just how comfortable Rivers is in Frank Reich's system.
And I'd be shocked, like I mentioned, if he does not come back in 2021.
He's playing like a guy who's a top 10 quarterback right now.
He's at the exact same point of time too. I mean, you think about it with the way that Rivers is
playing. I think it's fair to say that the Colts really, if Rivers catches fire like he is right
now and that maintains into January, this Colts team is not anyone's going to want to play. They
have the quarterback player right now with Rivers. They have the running game of Jonathan
Taylor coming on in just a moment. And they also have the ability to just go out there and just honestly kick your ass on
defense, which is really fair to say, and even on offense too. They're averaging 30 points per game
over the last eight games over that stretch where Rivers is only, he's carrying a four to one
touchdown interception ratio, which really shows you exactly how efficient Rivers is playing.
I think it's just fair to say as well that Rivers has really won over Colts fans.
After that really rough quarter of the season, he's really gone out of his way to show that,
yeah, I just need time in this offense to adjust a little bit, and he's doing very well
for himself.
And this continues down the stretch in December the next three weeks.
I think it's fair to say Philip Rivers could be a player who really could catch fire in January
and dare I say maybe make his first run
at a Super Bowl with the way this Colts team is playing right now
let's move on now to Jonathan Taylor
looking the part
of a legit bell cow running back
one who took a while to find his footing in the NFL
in his rookie year but after seeing
the bench for really almost three weeks
got benched against the Lions
averaging only two yards per carry on 11.
11 carries, 22 yards in that game.
Saw Jordan Wilkins get the majority of that snaps against the Baltimore Ravens.
That fumble cost them the game, in my opinion.
He saw the bench in that one.
Against the Titans, he didn't do much at all,
which really was disappointing with the way Taylor played in that game,
less than two yards per carry.
But after he missed, he came back against Green Bay, and of course he missed the next week due
to COVID-19 protocols. Over his last three games, Jonathan Taylor is 414 yards from scrimmage.
And let's read his last three games. 22 carries for 90 yards, 13 carries for 91 yards, and a lead
seven yards per carry. On Sunday against the Raiders, 20 carries for 150 yards, and a lead 7 yards per carry on Sunday against the Raiders,
20 carries for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns, 7.5 yards per carry.
Over his last two games, Taylor's averaging over 7 yards per carry.
That is just an insane number.
That is like Derrick Henry-esque numbers that Jonathan Taylor's putting up right now.
At end, he hasn't dropped a pass all year.
He's got 29 of his 30 targets, which really goes to show you that those concerns coming
out of Wisconsin are not there at all anymore. I think he's really worked on that part of his 30 targets, which really goes to show you that those concerns coming out of Wisconsin are not there at all anymore.
I think he's really worked on that part of his game.
He's a legit three-down running back.
And I think at this time of the year, too, I mean, Taylor took a couple months to get adjusted to the NFL,
but it's really fair to say that Taylor looks the part of an every-down running back,
the part of a future top-ten running back, in my opinion.
PFF actually has Jonathan Taylor graded as number one running back
over the last four weeks of the season,
which really goes to show you just how far Taylor's came.
He was 44th on PFF's run grades in the first 10 weeks of the season,
and over the last three, really last four if you want to include everyone else
in the NFL for running backs, he's been number one overall.
It just goes to show you he's gotten comfortable.
He's been able to do really anything the Colts have asked him to do.
I think the rest of the way, I think we saw maybe on Sunday against the Raiders,
I think Frank Rick maybe is finally confident enough to make Jonathan Taylor
his bell cow running back.
And I'd be shocked if we don't see 18 to 20 carries for Jonathan Taylor
the rest of the season.
I mean, he's a focal point of this offense now.
He's someone that you really should.
If you're in fantasy, I know you saw maybe some Jonathan Taylor miscues a little bit,
really being misused in the early part of the year.
A guy who really didn't produce much for you.
I mean, man, he's really turning into a legit, legit running back for the Colts.
And he actually has 1,045 yards from skirmish so far this year.
Taylor, an undrafted rookie, James Robinson for Jacksonville,
are the only rookie running backs with 1,000 total plus yards so far this year. Taylor, an undrafted rookie, James Robinson for Jacksonville. They're the only rookie
running backs with 1,000 total plus yards so far this season, and it would not shock me at all if
Jonathan Taylor actually leapfrogs James Robinson here soon with the way Jacksonville is really
going in the tank a little bit. It's so impressive that Jonathan Taylor already has 1,000 plus yards
and he was misused, I think, for two months of the season. He had to adjust a little bit, of course.
We saw a lot of Jordan Wilkins usage, a lot of Naeem Hines usage. Speaking of Naeem Hines, I think, for two months of the season. He had to adjust a little bit, of course. We saw a lot of Jordan Wilkins usage, a lot of Naeem Hines usage.
Speaking of Naeem Hines, I mean, he had a great game on Sunday as well,
but ride Jon Taylor the rest of the way.
This is like Marlon Mack in 2018 in the second half of the season
where he really started to get going.
We saw that great game in the playoffs against the Texans in 2018.
We had 150 yards.
Would not shock me at all if Jon Taylor has a 2018 finish
like we saw from Marlon Mack.
And for a rookie running back, the sky is the limit, I think, for John Taylor the rest
of the way.

And really quickly on T.Y. Hilton, let's close on him
because the ghost is finally back.
We've seen his last three games, four touchdowns.
He abused the Raiders on Sunday, like I mentioned earlier in the show, for five catches and 86 yards
and two touchdowns, that deep ball. We've also seen the Colts open up a little bit more,
almost 17 yards per reception for T.Y. Hilton over the last three weeks. Against the Titans,
he had four catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. Houston, eight catches for 110 yards and a
touchdown. I mean, against Houston, it's almost a guarantee at this point, especially at Houston that T.Y. is going to own them. I expect a big game for T.Y.
again next week when the Texans come to town as well. So you really just see it took a while for
T.Y. to get adjusted to Phillip Rivers. I think the same thing goes for Rivers with T.Y. But man,
it's so nice to see T.Y. getting back into his form. I hope the Colts sign him to a one to three
year deal. I'd probably be stunned if a one- to three-year deal.
I'd probably be stunned if it's not a multi-year deal.
Probably a two- to three-year deal with a third-year don guaranteed, honestly.
I think T.Y. deserves to finish his career at the Colts after a rough start.
Like I mentioned at the top of the show, with the way it looked early in the year,
I mean, I had my serious doubts about T.Y.,
but, man, he's proven me and the rest of the doubters wrong so far over the last month plus.
And I think he's a player.
I think he's rounding the form heading into late December, early January.
Man, this Colts offense looks completely different.
I mean, you add in a revamped T.Y. Hilton, a revamped Jonathan Taylor,
Michael Pittman Jr., as well as looking the part of a number two receiver,
future number one in my opinion.
I can't imagine what this Colts offense would look like if they had Paris Campbell out there as well.
He would be such a great fit.
I can't wait for him to get back healthy.
They have not ruled him out yet for the season,
even though it looks very unlikely at this point.
But, I mean, if you get Paris Campbell back for the playoffs,
I mean, this team is going to be very, very, very dangerous.
Add in the offensive line.
Add in the defense.
Add in the playmakers with T.Y., Taylor, Pittman.
Man, I think this team has the capabilities to go into the Super Bowl.
I mean, Kansas City, there's serious doubts about beating them at this point,
Arrowhead Stadium.
But we saw it in 2019 when Jacoby Brissett, a quarterback,
I mean, if Phillip Rivers catches fire like he is right now
and that maintains over the next month plus,
this Colts team is going to make a legit deep playoff run.
I am very, very confident in that.
I think right now I'd rate them as the second best team in the AFC.
Pittsburgh sliding. Buffalo
is there. I don't trust Josh Allen just yet.
He's having a very awesome
year three of his career so far.
I just think the Colts right now,
they are a team you don't want to face.
Everything's rounding in the form right now.
If we see more consistency from the defense, especially
in the first half, this team is exactly
what you want to see from them going into late December, early January.
Speaking of the playoffs, though, let's hit really quickly on the playoff picture.
I mean, Kansas City is pretty much locked in, in my opinion, to the number one seed.
I think the Steelers drop into their game.
Hand 10, I think it's to the Colts.
I mean, let's think about this for a second.
If the Colts run the table and go 12-4, if the Steelers lose two more games,
they play against the Browns and the Colts. If the Bills drop a couple games to the AFC East
teams like the Patriots who aren't going to be rolling over anytime soon, the Dolphins are
fighting for a playoff spot as well. And if the Titans lose to the Packers, the Colts have a
chance of being the number two seed here in the AFC, which is crazy to say about a month or so
ago. I think it really goes to show you that this Colts team, anything is possible.
I mean, you see the playoff picture right now.
I'll read it real quickly for you.
Chiefs are number one.
Steelers number two, even though they're sliding in my opinion.
That offense for Pittsburgh just looks really redundant right now.
The defense, I don't really trust either.
I think that team is going to be one and done in the playoffs in my opinion.
Buffalo is a team that you should really watch out for as far as making a run like the Colts are. They are in the 3C right now. Titans at 4 at 9 and
4. The Cleveland Browns are right above the Colts at 9 and 4 due to the tiebreaker and the Colts as
well. They're 6C at 9 and 4. And in the 7th spot is the Miami Dolphins with the Baltimore Reds
around their heels 8 and 5 as well. So it's really an 8 team race for 7 spots even though a couple
are locked up near the top as well right now.
I would go with the Colts.
Outside of Kansas City, like I mentioned, I really have a lot of confidence in the Colts really going anywhere on the road and winning outside of Arrowhead Stadium right now.
I really like the way the Colts are playing.
Right now, if the season ended today, they would be going to Buffalo to play the Bills.
I think outside of Kansas City, that's the toughest matchup for the Colts, so that's a really tough game in my opinion. But if they were to go to Buffalo and win, I mean, man, I think they could
really make a suitable run. Maybe that's crazy to say right now, but with the way the Colts are
playing, I would not bet against them, and I don't think any team in the AFC wants to see the Colts
this season in the playoffs. So that's going to do it for our episode today of Locked on Colts,
going over the Colts' win on Sunday in Vegas, 44-27. Just an outstanding game on both sides of the football
for the defense in the second half, the offense the whole game.
Phillip Rivers, Jonathan Taylor, T.Y. Hilton doing their thing,
and even Kenny Moore.
I mean, that viral interception he had, it's going to be around for a while.
You're going to be hearing and seeing a lot of that Kenny Moore clip
for a very long time, Colts fans.
But that's going to do it.
I appreciate everyone listening on today's episode.
We'll be back tomorrow with a guest, of course, to talk more Colts football, recap the game
on Sunday, as well as preview the game on Sunday in Indianapolis against the Houston
Texans who have a get beat to Sean Watson.
So who knows what's going to happen there on Sunday.
Appreciate everyone listening in.
Back with you guys tomorrow for the next episode.
