The Jaguars have their eyes on the AFC South Crown, while the Colts are playing for the
slimest of playoff chances, but more importantly, pride at this point.
Will Jacksonville be the ones to put the final nail in the Colts coffin?
Let's get to it.

Welcome back, everybody.
It was just a couple weeks ago.
It seems that we were here talking Colts and Jaguars,
and my have things differed for both sides since then.
The Colts still had a little bit of hope.
And the Jaguars, I think, tamped that down a little bit
and let them know how it was really going to be down the stretch.
And the Jaguars, you know, with that feather in their cap,
remain one of the hottest teams in the NFL.
So there's a lot on the line.
for both sides here.
I mean, the Jaguars are already,
their playoff bounds,
so they don't have much to worry about.
But we're going to take you through this matchup,
let you know how we think this might turn out,
what some of the most influential matchups are going to be.
But first, let's attack some of these biggest storylines here, Tony.
Again, things differ a little bit.
So vibes seem high in Duval County.
You know, the quarterback is playing well.
You got, it seems like complimentary football is going.
William Cohen is one of the hottest.
names out there. Just in the entire coaching ranks, certainly looks like they made a wise
decision there. The Jaguars did this offseason. So what are we looking at for the Jacksonville
Jaguars? What's still left for them to accomplish? What is kind of the biggest topic at hand
right now? Home field advantage or winning the division and being having a chance at the number
two seed if Denver stumbles some kind of way and gets beat by the charges who the charges want to win that division right so they end up in the tide record we own the tie breaker against the charges because we smoked them by almost three touchdowns so we would be the number two seed and uh at this point look I don't think Jackson feels afraid to play anybody and I don't I don't think they're afraid to play anybody anywhere they just went to Denver and beat them by two touchdowns in a game where we had all these
excuses now why it didn't mean all of that to them well yes it did but um the thing is is
they still have a lot to play for including just what they're doing is a me versus me attitude and
they're playing to their own standard and not allowing scenarios or stuff outside of the building
or anything they just want to keep improving they've convinced themselves and everyone else
as they should have that they haven't arrived they don't even
think they played their best football yet, that this thing is fluid, right? And the more they can do
better, the better that they'll get back results-wise. So this is a chip on the shoulder week
after week deal here that I believe was helped by the fact that they blew a 19-point lead
against Houston. Now, they'd not done that and won the game. They'd be sitting here instead of
11 and 4. They'd be 12 and 3, and they'd really be breathing down the neck of teams. Now, I don't
think the picture is going to lose because they play the dolphins and the jets so new
england is going to probably end up with the number one seed but it'd be nice to you know play
two home games before you get to the championship game and i know i'm getting ahead of it but
that's just the way it is no man it must be nice you know just like i don't know six seven weeks ago
we're sitting here i as from a colts perspective uh i legitimately was talking to some of my
colleagues about like hey man what like what do you suggest about like booking super bowl
reservations and stuff ahead of time just being smart and i was like you know you know super
ball's not likely but you know they're probably making the playoffs at the very worst and you know
we we know about that seven one a seven and one start everyone does but since then as good as
that start was it's as poor as they've been since then they have lost six of their last seven
games the one game they won was out in germany it was an overtime against the foul
often. So this team has just struggled in the back half of the schedule. And of course, to make matters worse, they lost their quarterback. They've turned to 44-year-old Philip Rivers at this point. He'll be starting once again. And I imagine he'll be starting the rest of the way. You know, it's kind of a formality week to week that Shane Steichen is saying, you know, yes, we're going to go with him. I imagine that'll be the way all, you know, the rest of the way through here. But yeah, the Colts just.
They've got to play for pride at this point because they'd been losing games,
but they had had control of pretty much every game at some point and then wound up losing it for the most part.
But this on Monday, on national TV, there was no hiding.
Everyone saw that was a beat down.
It was an embarrassment.
You know, the offense did enough to win, but the defense never stood a chance.
Whatever, whatever the defensive plan was, whatever the defensive execution was, it was not it.
you know yeah i'm i've been sitting here for weeks here in lou an arummo's name mentioned for head
coaching jobs and all of a sudden all of the people that think that the jobs are going to be open
are like nah i'll pass i'm off that louisanna rumo train i like louisna rumo but yeah
it is a little bit perplexing because you know they lose their quarterback they get philip
rivers and you don't expect him to do anything against seattle but he played well enough the other
night i don't think he's been their problem so i'm trying to put my finger on the problem like
okay what is going on with the rest of that team because they were playing so well early
and then all of a sudden it seems like around the Pittsburgh game when they had all of those
turnovers it's like things got ugly at that point but it was a fabulous year for them and
at first I was saying wow man they lose Mr. Ursay and he doesn't get a chance to see this
you know because this is what he's been trying to do and it was magical and then things
happening, you know, with Daniel Jones and it came crashing down. I know they have a lot of
questions. And I'm wondering, I'm going to ask you this. What is it with Rivers playing? Now that
they don't have it anymore, what's the point in him still playing? Is it to evaluate the rest
of the roster? Because I know the owner, young Ms. Ursa, she's always down over the headset and
her. So what are they doing? Are they looking to see, okay, who do we move forward with and what
do we have? Or is it just, look, we're just going to ride with him because he gives us the best
chance to win. Yeah, I think at the end of the day, everyone is still kind of playing for their
jobs. Like, obviously, they could be eliminated by the time they even take the field Sunday because
Houston plays on Saturday. So everything could be somewhat meaningless, you know, in these
final few games. But, you know, like I said, Shane Steichen is the type of guy where he's going to say,
I owe it to all the guys in the locker room to give them the best chance to win. And,
River certainly gives him the best chance to win.
You know, we're not talking about a guy in Riley Leonard who is as physically gifted
as Anthony Richardson.
Philip Rivers has never been successful because of what he does physically.
It's because he's smarter and more prepared than the defenses he's playing.
And you can still kind of see that for the most part since he's been back.
Now, you know, his physique has changed quite a bit since he's been back, but you can still see
the guy getting rid of the ball quickly, you know, making checks at the line, calling
audibles, just doing all the things that he used to do. But I do expect him to continue playing.
Anthony Richardson, I don't think we'll be ready. He's got still some visual impairment.
And then Riley Leonard has never really been their plan as like their long-term quarterback.
So I don't, I don't truly see how it benefits them to send him out there as the quarterback.
It's like you're not really evaluating him to be your starter next year. I don't think so.
you might as well go with the guy in Rivers
who gives you the best chance to win
and like you said he hasn't been the problem
I thought he played really well
on Monday was probably one of
their five best quarterback performances
of the season
so yeah it's it's
I would imagine it's got to be
Philip the rest of the way I mean
especially if somehow they squeak
their way into the playoffs you got to go with
the guy that brought you there. Yeah I'm
wary though man it's like
they still have enough with their
receivers with
with Rivers, they still have enough to be a problem.
It's like we're the Jaguars and we're speeding towards this thing.
And Philip Rivers is, and I got to be careful here because I'm going to make an analogy
and it sounds like me now.
He's in the fast lane.
He's got his blinker on.
He's going 40 miles.
He's like, oh, man, move.
Get over.
Get out of the way.
So that's with the Jaguars.
They're blowing the horn.
Like, come on, man.
Get out of the way.
And Philip Rivers is like, you can't rush him.
You know how old people are.
You're driving like, we're talking about.
So that's kind of what it is for us.
and I'm looking forward to the game Sunday.
Yeah, without a question.
All right, guys.
So we're going to talk about some of the matchups here
because, again, these teams faced just a couple weeks ago,
but I'm already kind of starting to see some parallels
about what the Colts have faced since that matchup
that have got me kind of even more worried and heading into this one.
This episode is brought to you by prize picks.

subscription. It's a perfect holiday gift right now. All right, Tony, so let's get into the nitty gritty
here. We know, you know, every year is different, but we know on either side who to be worried about
on both these rosters. Now, there were some guys for Jacksonville that did not play just a couple
weeks ago. Could cause some worrisome things to go on for the Colts. But one guy who did play
and did very, very well I'm looking at is Jacoby Myers, man. He is maybe playing the best ball of his
career. And that's a guy who earned a contract to be a wide receiver won elsewhere. But he's
really up his game since that trade to Jacksonville. And, you know, no Trevor Ace Ward for
the Colts. I don't know that Soss Gardner is going to be back quite yet either. They've taken
their lumps with guys like Jalen Jones and Mackay Blackman lately.
So we'll see.
But, you know, Jacoby Myers, whether it's out of the slot or lined up outside, he's
got me worried.
Him and Trevor have just got a really good connection.
Yeah, he's a quarterback-friendly wide receiver.
And that's what has been described by Trevor Lawrence and other people.
I'm not smart enough to be able to explain all of that, but I can kind of explain what
they sort of meant and what they sort of mean with that is he makes it easy to put the ball
where it's supposed to be like the the professional route running professional past catcher thing
you know where he's going he knows where he's going and he does a really good job of kind
of getting there and disguising where he's supposed to be when you look at him play and I'm not
comparing him to these Hall of Famers I'm just saying this is the you know you go grocery shopping
and you say, okay, what aisle is this on?
Where's on the aisle where all or the other stuff that looks like it is?
He kind of reminds me of DeAndre Hopkins,
and he kind of reminds me of Devante Adams with his body type,
his playing style.
His impact has been very Keenna McCardell-like for the Jaguars,
meaning, oh, you can be a number one in any minute,
but I don't get caught up in the one and the two deal.
And I think if you look at the Rams where the Jaguars kind of have taken a lot of things
from because of all of the coaches that they have,
that have kind of come through that tree.
Pooka Nacua and Devante Adams is like one and one A when they're both out there.
That's kind of what this is.
And Jacobi allows everyone else.
He's so good at what he is doing.
And he allows Trevor to throw the ball in spots where Trevor used to not throw it in the middle of the field,
at the hash marks.
He's always there and he's always open.
It kind of opened up things for Brian Thomas Jr., who came back from an injury.
And it has also made people realize just how good.
of a one-on-one wide receiver it is when you get the ball to park of
Washington as you saw last week he's a great thick-legged turns into a running-back
type wide receiver because he built like that he's also a great punt return and a great kick
returner so you get him one-on-one on the open field he's very very hard for you to tackle
that only happens because you have a guy like jacobie mire who affects all of the windows
gets all of the depth he doesn't get knocked off his line he's able to release very well and
stack and he's able to get to where Trevor wants him to be and it's allowed the entire
offense not just him and Trevor but the entire offense to be very very fluid third and six
they get six third and seven they get seven and a half and those are the little small things
that good teams do that bad teams don't and they've been able to do that this year and to keep
those first downs and keep those critical possessions going during the game that allows them
to manage games that they end up winning and I think that's been a big big thing
Yeah. Now, when it comes to the Colts, their record says otherwise, but they're not a bad team. They're just a team that's kind of lost right now. And I mean, even the foes, you guys can acknowledge, you know, there's talent there. It's just whatever's going on is just not great. So when you look at the Colts roster, what has you kind of, you know, given yourself pause a little bit?
I'm always afraid of Jonathan Taylor, always. I have told people, I've been saying it for the last four or five years. When you start talking about Sequin and Bejon,
and now Jemir Gibbs, you can't leave him out, man.
He is just that good of a football player.
And he's a combination of power, speed, size, and what have you.
And if you allow him, he'll whoop you.
The Jaguars did a very, very good job the first time that they played him.
And he is the type of player where you really have to pick your points.
And the other one is Alec Pierce, because I don't know if he's eating up the route tree,
but I tell you what he is doing.
He's getting like 20 yards of catch when he does.
And that allows things.
to be opened up underneath for Josh Downs
and, of course, the rookie tight-in, Warren.
You always need someone that can do certain things like that.
Now, Pierce isn't as much of a threat now
because I don't know if Philip Rivers can throw the ball
that far down the field anymore with any consistency,
but you still have to watch them,
especially when you get in the red zone
because he has that size and he's a dude
that can run a nine route or run a fade route
and get wide open, and the Jaguars don't have real tall corners.
So those things are a threat.
The offensive line obviously has been an issue also,
but I think they're a little banged up.
And then the Mike linebacker, those guys,
they fly after the ball and they really, really do flow to the ball well.
I haven't seen the effects of having both Charverry's Ward
as well as Soss Gardner on the field at the same time to affect the game.
I do like the safety.
I like Nick Cross a whole bunch.
It's just that you're right.
you can't pinpoint exactly what is wrong with the coach outside of the fact that they had to switch up
quarterbacks they've been a little bit of a perplexing team maybe it kind of just came down to earth a little bit
you know what I mean because sometimes that's exactly what happens and you peak too early that's true
it's and it's just you mentioned it's perplexing it is because even in these games that they've lost
no matter whether it's a really really good opponent or one that they should handily beat
they've been in control at some point each game again really other than than monday night was
just a nightmare um but something happened on monday night that had me you know flashing back to
the jaguars game so philip rivers late in the game he throws the pick six over the middle of the
field to the the the mike linebacker who scoped it the whole way just scoop score i'm out of here
and i said oh hi devon lloyd nice to see you again because daniel jones did something so similar
to Lloyd. Lloyd's got, what, five picks
this year? Is that right?
By the way, Pro Bowl snub
Devin Lloyd. Yeah, that's
let all linebacker gets you five
picks, he should be out there. Yeah,
let all linebackers with picks, even
had one on Monday night football against the
Chiefs that that was
that seminal moment that you look for, but
we don't get no respect. So that's fine.
You don't have to give the Jaguars any awards, because
you know what? They're just going to take it out on
everybody else, and they just keep feeding us
all of this stuff. But
Devin Lloyd,
is a very good player. I like, shout out to Luke Heakley, too, for sitting there watching that
live and calling that thing out. And he's, there it is. As soon as the dude jumped,
he went, there it is. And that's kind of what you can do with Rivers, because the lack of
velocity and the fact that he ain't, he's a statue. Like Joe Flacko's a statue, but Joe Flacko
can throw it from Indianapolis all the way to Lafayette. You know what I mean? And Phillip Rivers
can't really do that. So it's a little bit different. You can jump some balls and all of that
stuff. But yeah, man, I'm looking forward to it.
I don't think it's going to be easy.
I guess in segment three, I'm going to get into that, which I don't think it's going to be easy at all.
I think the Colts are going to stand up and fight.
It's going to be a tough game.
Yeah, no, they normally fight, and it is at home.
You know, they play the Jaguars pretty well at home usually, but we'll get to that in just a moment.
All right, welcome back to the show.
Every day, ers, we are talking Colts and Jaguars at Lucas Oil Stadium.
It is the Colts final home game of the year, and really they're, they're, they're,
one of their final chances to really show
that they've got some gumption and some life left in them
because they lose and they're done.
They might be done before the game even begins
because again, we mentioned Houston plays on Saturday
and they need to win out and they need Houston to lose out.
So, you know, even if that is the case
where they enter this game out of the playoffs,
you really hope to see them come in there pissed off
by how this season, like they need to take their frustrations out
on the slide they just experienced and missing out on the playoffs after a 7-1 start,
you want to see them with fight because there's nothing more disappointing.
We've seen this with Colts teams in the past.
Like, they faced the Giants last year with a historically bad offense,
and the Giants put up 45 points on the Colts.
These are the kind of games that we see the Colts kneel to their opponent and just don't show up.
So they cannot do that.
But before I get to like the specifics of what the Colts,
needs to do to actually win.
They can win this game.
I mean, the Jaguars are the better team, but they can win.
But when you look at this one, Whig, what do you see as the Jaguars, like, their most
seamless way to win this game, like the biggest factors in order for them to win?
Just keep being themselves, know who you are when you come out of the locker room and focus
on your strengths as how they match up with the weaknesses of the other team and not so much
just worried about the weaknesses of the other team.
I think they just have to come out and understand
that every little single thing that you do matters.
It goes back to the fourth quarter against Houston.
That is going to be something I believe that sticks in their minds.
You've got to step on people.
And everything that you do is going to determine
whether you're going to lose this game.
And because it's so fluid, because they're still
building up to who they want to be in the newness
of this entire organization, I think the proof of concept
of the hard work that they put
in is making them want to go back.
I likened it yesterday to someone who goes to the gym.
You know, early on, you don't really see those games, right?
And then all of a sudden, at some point,
you go somewhere and somebody goes,
you've been working out, you know this?
I think the Jaguars notice, and that makes them hungry
and wants, they want to go back.
They can't wait to get back on their treadmill
and put the work in because the work they're putting in
is getting tangible results in front of everybody's eyes.
So I think they're putting the work in.
And when you put the work in, it gives you a sense of entitlement that is the right type of entitlement,
which means we're going to go out here and show you exactly what we've been doing and who we are.
And because of that, I think they're going to win the game.
But I do think pride is a part of it.
Just like last week, Houston knew they had to win.
And they go out there and the Raiders give them everything that they want.
And I know you guys are probably cheering hard for the Raiders to win that game.
But this is the NFL.
Teams are still going to play hard.
The Jaguars played the Titans next week.
The Titans, even though they beat the Chiefs this week,
the Titans that have to come in here and play this hot team at home,
they're going to get squashed.
And we know that because all the optics works in the Jaguars' favor.
The Colts, I believe the Jaguars are going to beat them,
but I believe the Colts are talented and good enough to put up enough resistance,
that the Jaguars are going to have to make sure that they're smart
and that they keep their heads right and don't get dumb penalties.
and don't turn the ball over and put themselves in a bad situation.
I look forward.
I'll tell you right now,
I look for the game to go back and forth,
but eventually the best team is going to win,
and that's Jacksonville.
Yeah, I think one of the biggest keys for the Colts,
I'm going to look at the defense specifically.
You know, two weeks ago against Seattle,
they held them to six field goals.
Like, they kept Seattle a really high-powered offense out of the end zone.
And they traded field goals, like, in the final minute,
and that's how the Seahawks beat.
the Colts. It was a close game where the Colts, you know, you look at it going into it.
They probably would have had no business winning, but the Colts almost left Seattle with a win.
And it was the defense that really stood up.
Philip Berger's first game, it was the defense that stood up last week.
It was could not have been further from the truth.
You know what I mean?
The defense didn't even show up.
Right.
They got to the quarterback one time and, of course, lie out too, lot too forced to fumble on that.
The titan scooped out of the air and picked up like a yarder.
to is like it's going to be one of those games you know uh so with the defense it's got to be
the pass rush they have got to show up when they don't terrible things happen uh you know so
de foris buckner is back now uh came back from i r last week on monday night uh so you have
lyotu latu who has been playing really really well in the last several weeks uh you get de force
buckner another week into the system where he's maybe playing a few more snaps uh you know
being more effective.
The problem is they, outside of those two, they just have such, such little help at pass rush.
You know, Samson Evocom and Quitty Pei and Taekwon Lewis, those guys are, they're fine in minimal
roles as pass rushers, but they're just, they're not going to give you much juice there.
Right.
And so you're really looking at two guys to dominate.
And when I look at this specific matchup, I'm like, you're going to have to get to Trevor
and try and rattle him and shake his confidence a little bit in order for this not to work.
Because Trevor's playing, you know, he's playing with Swagger right now.
You know, he's rolling out and making these incredible throws on the move and everything.
You're going to have to try and keep them contained to the pocket and bring him down in that pocket in order to win.
But that's one of the biggest things for me.
You know, how has there a protection been lately?
Jaguars have been fine.
They struggled a little bit early in the game against Denver last week, but then they regrouped.
And Trevor got the ball up.
Yeah, it is Denver.
But, you know, no matter of the opponent, you still have to get it done.
One of the things that they've had to do is get it done against a team that has really good players on defense.
They struggled some against Houston and early in the year against both the Rams and the Seahawks.
They really, really did struggle.
So it was good for them to at least be able to write the ship during the game and not have to wait until they get back to the facility and practice and try to fix those things.
They kind of fixed it on the fly and it worked.
Therefore, that gave them another level of confidence that they know that that adjustment can be made in game.
On the flip side of it, Trayvon Walker's healthy.
You know, he's been backed up.
He had a fake thing on his hand all year because of a hand injury.
He was, you look at the stat sheet last week and you won't see it,
but he dominated the Denver on third down when they moved him inside in the run game.
He's been all over the place, man.
So he is healthy.
Josh Hines Allen is healthy.
They're getting really, really good production out of BJ.
I'm sorry, DJ Green, BJ Green, the rookie defensive lineman who gets.
gives them some speed and Dennis Gardeck.
They're getting it from everybody.
So Philip Rivers being a statue,
he ain't going to have a whole bunch of avenues to get out of there.
And then with the line being kind of mixed a mixed bag right now,
I think he's going to have to get the ball out real quick.
And when he does, that's when you can start jumping routes.
And that's why I think the Jaguars are going to make two turnovers.
I think you're going to get out to a big league, run the ball,
hang on to win the game by 10 points.
Yeah, that pass rush is.
something definitely worth being concerned about, which leads into me saying the run game
has got to get going, man.
You know, Jonathan Taylor had like 200 plus yards against the Falcons, but then since then,
not even a hundred-yard game.
You're number one in the league against the rush.
Exactly.
Yeah, Jack Wark going to play them games.
They're going to, you want to do that, then it's going to be a long day because they
ain't going to let nobody just keep running.
I know.
And that's just the tough thing is you look at like the common denominators of this slide.
is the run game has not been what it was early in the year during the streak.
I mean, Jonathan Taylor got out to an enormous lead in the NFL in rushing yards.
And now he's not even leading the league anymore.
And then, like I mentioned, the pass rush has been so hot and cold.
So I think those are two of the biggest things.
And then obviously taking care of the football, that's the case any game.
But when you're already kind of back, your backs against the wall, you cannot give your much better opponent those bonus possessions.
So, yeah, the Colts, I didn't feel good about this game, you know, before last.
I felt good about San Francisco, but I didn't feel good about this one or Houston.
I still don't, obviously.
So it's really hard for me to say the Colts are going to pull this one out.
They can, but I don't know that they will.
All right, everybody, drop in the comments what you think is going to happen.
