This is Zach Hicks and Tony Wiggins of Locked on Jaguars.
Welcome back.
Hopefully this is a better time for my side this time, Tony,
because last time was brutal, man.
It was brutal.
Yeah, it was pretty bad, man.
And by the way, we thank y'all for making us your first listen as well.
Good fortune down in Jacksonville.
It seems like that's a given.
That always happens when the Colts come to Jacksonville,
no matter who the quarterback is.
I expect a better game, a closer game this time.
Colts don't have as many injuries.
Wide receiver.
It's a home game.
And I think they got a little bitter taste in their mouth,
and they want to get rid of it.
We hope so.
We hope so.
I mean, they had a bitter taste going into that week two game.
And yeah, it was a bloodbath. It was a bloodbath.
But guys, we got you covered today with our Locked On crossover.
We're going to talk about the biggest storylines for this one.
We're going to talk about the key matchups.
And then we're going to give our score prediction.
But Tony, since you are the road team, since you're my guest today,
I'm going to let you take it away here on this first segment.
So what's the biggest storyline for the Jaguars coming into this game with the Indianapolis Colts?
A tale of two teams.
They didn't look anything like they look in weeks four and five than they did in two and three.
In weeks two and three, they outscored the Colts, as you mentioned, and the Chargers 62 to 10.
The last two weeks, they've had seven turnovers, all by Trevor Lawrence,
four fumbles and three interceptions, and that's what they cannot do
if they want to win.
Their margin of error is still small, considering that they're a very young team,
but they also have a style that they want to play and how they want to play,
and they can't do that by turning the ball over
and then having missed opportunities on offense early in the game.
And that's what happened the last two weeks
as opposed to what happened against the Colts and the Chargers.
They just didn't capitalize on opportunities.
They need to get ahead.
They need to score early.
They need to get ahead early.
And after they get ahead, they can get into their sub-packages on defense
and sort of manipulate the game from that point and not allow the other team to dictate what's going to happen.
And then they can go to the running game. They run the ball very well when they're ahead because Doug Peterson has this formula where you throw to score and you run to win.
But you've got to be ahead in order to run to win,
and they haven't gotten to that yet.
Yeah.
You know, it's funny.
You guys are going against the Colts this week.
The worst first quarter offense, the worst first half offense.
I mean, honestly, the worst offense in football right now.
So maybe you will get ahead early and kind of run to the finish line
like you did last time against the Colts.
But, you know, for the Colts, the biggest storyline,
it's really hard to talk about this team right now
without talking about the offense.
The offense right now, you know, football outsiders, they did their DVOA rankings.
The Colts were the 32nd ranked offense in the NFL.
And their offense being 32nd, you know, weighed down their 11th ranked defense, their 18th ranked special team,
to where the Colts as a team are 32nd still.
So that's just how low that offense is right now.
They are by far and away, by almost
every metric, the worst offense. They cannot get things going in the first half and they kind of
do in a little bit in the second half, but it's always a little too late. This offense really
needs to find its rhythm after a really bad Thursday night game against the Broncos. They
were lucky to pull that one off because their defense on the other side of the ball was keeping
the minute. They just kept getting chance after chance and after chance,
but that's not going to happen every single week,
especially against the Jaguars team where last time they played this Colts
team, they were able to move the ball.
They were able to score points.
The offense needs to come to life a little bit in this one.
So, I mean,
the biggest storyline for the Colts offense right now is just like,
can you get anything going?
And the first half, second half, whatever,
like just have a somewhat consistent game plan
and get the ball in the end zone.
That's the thing that the Colts are struggling right now with.
How did you guys come off such a bad game against us
and then beat Kansas City?
Now, we were caught up in our own stuff having to go out to L.A.,
so I don't think they really paid attention.
But how did you – because the league, it really shows you
that you can't sleep on anybody.
We lost to the Texans last week.
The thing is, how did you guys manage to do that?
And I think that's the interesting part for us here.
So it really was two things.
One, the Chiefs special teams were just abysmal,
just an absolutely atrocious special teams game.
They missed a field goal. They faked a field goal that they didn't convert. They fumbled a punt early in
the game that the Colts scored a touchdown on. The Colts were able to capitalize on a lot of those.
The other thing, though, was Gus Bradley and his defense has really come to life since that week
two game. You know, when the Colts played the Jaguars in week two, the Jaguars kind of did
whatever they wanted in that first half against the Colts on offense against the Colts defense against the Chiefs. Gus Bradley came out with
a couple of new starters, you know, Rodney McLeod starting at strong safety, Isaiah Rogers starting
at outside corner. And they really, you know, took it to Pat Mahomes in that offense and they
limited the best offense in all the football. So, you know, they did get a little lucky with
the Chiefs special teams, just not performing well whatsoever.
But the Colts defense is coming to life.
Their offense is not, but the Colts defense looks a lot better right now
than they did in week two.
Is Jonathan Taylor back?
That's going to be a key for us because we saw last week Naheem Hines went down.
So it's going to be, you know, is he back?
And if he is back, what does he look like?
Yeah, so as of right now, he still missed practice.
We're talking, this is Wednesday night that we're recording this, so
he didn't miss Wednesday's practice.
It's up in the air, we don't know right now.
So we'll see if he's good to go.
I think if it's even close, they'll try to get him out there, but-
What is he dealing with?
What's going on?
It's an ankle sprain.
I don't think they've said what kind of ankle sprain yet.
I think they might have said it was a high ankle sprain,
but I don't want to be wrong here.
But, yeah, it is an ankle sprain.
So, you know, for a running back, cutting off of a bad ankle, you know,
that's going to spell some trouble right there.
All right.
That was information that I definitely needed to know.
In segment two, what we're going to give you is the key matchups,
and I'm going to
let the home team go first and tell us what the key matchups are in this game come this weekend.
But before I do that, I got to let you know about Simply Safe. That's right. Simply Safe. That's
the pronounce, how you pronounce it. Here's a sports analogy for you. When it comes to burglars,
your home is like
the end zone, right? That's where you score and you need the absolute strongest defense you can
muster. This is why I use and trust SimpliSafe home security. At SimpliSafe, your safety is the
only thing that matters. It's cutting edge technology powered by 24-7 professional
monitoring agents who always have your back so you always know your home is safe.
Now, I put my son on this.
He just brought this big sprawling house here down in Jacksonville.
It's in a really good neighborhood.
But guess what?
Burglars don't go to real good neighborhoods.
They go.
Well, that's where they go.
They go to real good.
They don't go to bad neighborhoods.
They go to real good neighborhoods.
And you won't find him lacking because he has SimpliSafe.
Now, with 24-7 professional monitoring, the agents call you the moment there's a threat detected and dispatch police or first responders in an emergency, even if you're not home and can't be reached.

Rolling through key matchups here in segment two on Locked On.
Jaguars Locked On, Colts Thursday crossover.
All right, we're getting to the key matchups of the game.
Give me your offensive and defensive key matchups for the Colts,
and I'll do the same for the Jags, Zach.
Well, you know, for the Colts offense, again,
the only thing I can really talk about is this offensive line. It really is. I mean, right now, the highest paid offensive line football is performing like the worst offensive line in the entire league. And it's so bad that I can't even tell you who the five starters are going to be right now going into this upcoming game. I know Braden Smith will be out there somewhere. I don't know where. Braden Smith will be one of those offensive line positions. I know Quinton Nelson will be left guard.
And Bernard Ryman, the rookie, will be the left tackle.
Outside of that, I don't know who else is going to be on this offensive line.
But the key matchup that we're really looking at is just can this Colts offensive line, whoever is out there, actually hold up for once?
Again, it really goes back to what I was saying in the other segment.
They need to hold up just long enough for Matt Ryan to be effective.
Now, when they have held up this year, we've seen Matt Ryan have success over 300 yards against the Texans,
over 300 yards against the Titans in week four.
He's had some success.
You know, he's completing passes, but he's just taking too many hits.
He leads the NFL in fumbles.
He leads the NFL in interceptions.
This offensive line is letting him down.
And as a result, we're seeing this Colts offense really sputter. So whoever is out there for the Colts offensive line, the biggest
matchup is how they'll handle this Jacksonville front that is very multiple. It's very, you know,
they throw a lot of stunts and twists at you. They come at you in a lot of different ways.
And that's what this Colts offensive line has struggled with in recent weeks. So that's the
biggest matchup on that side. On the other side, it's how the Colts can limit
the quick game of the Jacksonville Jaguars. We saw the first time these two teams played,
Trevor Lawrence was just throwing the ball like he was in a passing clinic. It was the easiest
day for him. He was completing every check down, every play action, every screen for big gains.
The biggest thing for this Colts defense that is playing a lot better going into this matchup than
they were in week two is just limiting that quick game, getting Trevor Lawrence just off balance, off key
and getting some pressure. They weren't able to get any pressure in week two because of that
quick game. If they can get Trevor Lawrence to maybe hold it just a second longer, they can
hopefully get that pressure home. But those are my two biggest keys right there, getting pressure
and getting the Jaguars out of that quick game and then just the colts offensive line that's that's always the biggest uh matchup or key
right there on the offense right now yeah and they've used a lot of resources on that offensive
line too they have they have it just seems like they can't get everybody on the field at the same
time all right for the jaguars defensively what they have to do is understand that this is not
the same team that they played earlier this year.
With Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman, I assume they're both going to play.
What you're going to get is you're going to get two big receivers. They're both, they have a lot of size and it's a lot different from what you saw earlier in the year.
And that will allow Paris Campbell, I guess, to be where he's supposed to be.
And that's in the slot.
So the Jaguars have to really watch out for those big guys on the 50-50 balls.
They haven't had a lot of success stopping guys from catching those passes this year.
And I think Matt Ryan's going to take his chances,
because one thing Matt Ryan's not going to do that a lot of quarterbacks,
Davis Mills didn't do much of it last week.
Matt Ryan's not going to scramble.
He's a little old.
He's old enough that when the first five steps he takes,
he stands in the same spot like one of those guys on cartoons,
you know what I'm saying, before they take off.
So the thing with Matt is they got to be able to knock him off his square.
And they got to know that he knows that that's coming.
So what he's going to try to do is do a little bit of what Davis Mills did
last week.
And Davis Mills didn't rip the Jaguars apart.
I think he
hit like 135 yards. But in certain situations, he was able to get the ball out quick and convert
some third downs. I think Matty's going to try to get the ball out of his hand real quick and
use that catch radius for those receivers. So the Jaguar corners have to really have discipline,
and they have to really understand that that ball's going to come out quick, and they need to
be ready and to make sure that they don't get caught sleeping
and get caught with a double move too.
On the other side of the ball, Trevor has to be patient.
You talked about the check downs and the quick passes.
He has to take all of that.
He has to get all of that and not be greedy, but then again,
recognize when there's time for him to go for a bigger play
and then do that
to and test that secondary a little bit um the main thing is i don't say don't fumble i'm i'm i
just say protect the ball i think when you say don't fumble you put negativity into the equation
but i will say you have to protect the football you cannot in this league turn the ball over from
that position multiple times
and think that the outcome is going to be good.
Now, that being said, seven turnovers in two weeks, all from him,
and they were within one score with the ball late in the game with a chance to tie.
So all hasn't gone poorly.
It's just that him being the quarterback, and you guys know this better than anybody,
him being the quarterback, you have an expectation that he's not going to be the one that costs you
game. So you don't always have to play well. You just can't play poorly at the most important
position. And he's done that the last two weeks. If they do that, I think the Jaguars will have
a pretty good sneaky chance to possibly come up with a victory.
I guess I'll have to let you know exactly if I think they're going to win.
As in segment three, we're going to make our predictions.

Yep, and if you guys are listening to this here on Thursday morning,
that means we've got Thursday night football coming up.
So tonight with prize picks, I'm taking Carson Wentz,
Commander Carson, to throw for more than 218.5 passing yards.
And I also kind of like Justin Fields that had over
eight rushing attempts. I kind of like that one. Now, if you guys listen to my prize picks on
Monday, I did an okay job. So, you know, I'm not saying take me as an expert here, but go to prize
picks and make your bets now. I personally prefer prize pick because I hate the competition when it
comes to gambling. I just like it to be my picks versus what's going to
happen. I just hate that competition. So how does prize picks work? Well, you pick two to five
players and you just pick if they will score more or less than their prize picks projection.
You can win up to 10 times your money on any entry. There's no competing against other people
whatsoever. It's just you versus the projections available. PrizePix offers projections on any sport that you watch.
This includes NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, PGA, college football,
men's college basketball, women's college basketball.
I mean, I could just go on and on and on.
There's even disc golf on there, guys.
You guys could go to disc golf and get some PrizePix projections.
Entries can be made in 60 seconds or less.
It's that easy.

All right, Tony, let's do our score predictions here to close out this show. And last time you
were a little bit closer with your score prediction than I was with mine. So I'll let you kick it off again and see if you can go two for two with your score
predictions on this. I have missed three times. I have not picked the Jaguars to lose a game
this season. And that's not because I've just been optimistic. It's because I kind of really
thought that was the way it was going to go. So I was doing real well there for a second,
but I've fallen off the last couple of weeks. I'm going 20 to 17 Jacksonville. I think they'll win this game. I think they'll do
just enough to win it. I think they'll get out and get ahead at least at some point during the
third quarter, they take the lead and the coach never really get the lead back. I think it'll be
close. I think the coach might have the ball late in the game with a chance to tie and Matt Ryan's
probably going to get strip sacks. So I'll go 20-17 Jacksonville.
You know, I don't even think that's horribly off at all.
I'm actually in kind of agreement with you that that's probably the way it's going to go.
But, you know, it's funny, Tony.
I feel bad that I finally figured out the way to do these predictions
because all the previous five weeks when I've made predictions,
I have been wrong on every single one.
Every single one I've been wrong. So I finally figured out that I have been wrong on every single one, every single one I've
been wrong. So I finally figured out that I just need to pick the other team to win each week.
And then the Colts will go undefeated the rest of the year. So I'm going Jaguars 27,
Colts 16. I just, I think all of you guys listening, even if you think that's a very
pessimistic way for me to approach this game and look at this, I can't have any faith in this
Colts team right
now with the way this offense is playing. And again, this offensive line, we saw what happened
on Thursday where that vaunted Broncos defense was just getting after. I mean, Baron Browning
in his first career start off the edge had a 50% pressure percentage against the Colts right tackle.
This offensive line is just a bunch of traffic cones right now. And I think this Jaguars front
is going to get after it.
So I, you know, until the Colts offense proves that they can score more than 20 points, I'm not going to give them more than 20.
But again, I've been wrong on every prediction this year.
So I'm sure you guys will will love that.
I think the Jaguars 27 to 16 Jaguars and the Colts fall to an even bigger hole in the division race.
All right. So quick recap of what we discussed here today
outside of those score predictions.
The biggest storylines is who's going to play
on the offensive line for the Colts
and do the Jacksonville Jaguars actually have it in them
to get beyond the struggles that they've had
the last couple of weeks and protect the football
and then play their game and get out front and try to make this game
look exactly like the game in week two was it never works out that way,
but it's a matter of which team shows up to play on our key matchups.
I'm looking forward to those Jaguars corners,
being able to guard these tall receivers that they have not seen yet because
they did not play in game one.
Of course, you're talking about the offensive line protecting Matt Ryan again, and that means that the Jaguars pass rush has to be on point. So I think we're set up for a really good matchup
here on Sunday. And I will tell you this, I think the game is going to be a lot more competitive than the game in week two.
We can only hope, Tony. We can only hope. I mean, I just want it.
The Colts can just score some points this time. I feel like I can feel a little bit better after this one.
But no, I mean, I think for an early season tilt like this one, it's as must win as it gets.
I mean, for the Colts, you're trying to avoid 0-3-1 in the division to start the year.
For the Jaguars, you're trying to bounce back after feeling on top of the world those first
couple weeks, now being 0-2 the last two games, especially last week against the Texans in a very
winnable game. I think both these teams are really playing for something here in week six. But I
think that's all we have for today, guys. We'll both be back with you guys tomorrow on our own
shows, our own channels.
We're not going to keep crossing over forever and ever,
but make sure you guys are following Tony on Twitter.
What's your Twitter handle there, Tony?
Is it right there in your thing?
Yeah, it's at shop talking wig.
I have the locked on Jaguars Twitter page also,
but I'm really, really active on that at shop talking wig page.
So make sure you follow that.
I got something else to let them follow.
Okay.
The Peacock and Williamson NFL show. It is
fabulous, man. I'm telling you. It's the
quintessential NFL show.
It has a special place in my
heart because those guys really did a lot for
the NFL channel here on the
Locked on NFL. So you want to
hear a really, really good guy
covering the NFL in Brian Peacock
and a former NFL scout, Matt Williamson.
And you can get a perspective that you don't get everywhere else.
So make sure you like and follow and find that wherever you get your podcasts and on the Odyssey app, the Peacock and Williamson NFL show.
We will catch you guys tomorrow.
