Happy New Year to all of you.
I am Jake Arthur. He's Zach Hicks.
And that dead horse
over there on the floor is your 4-11-1 Indianapolis Colts. You know Zach and I from horseshoehuddle.com
of course. Today we're going to go over what the heck happened to this Colts team in their latest
lopsided loss, and why it's incredibly necessary to pull the ripcord after this and just start from the ground up next offseason.
We're also going to take a quick look ahead to the Texans and what we'd like to see with just one game left, mercifully.
All right, Zach.
So, a couple of the bigger points, of course.
It was Nick Foles' second start.
And it didn't last super long. He just got absolutely smoked by Kayvon Thibodeau
and left with a rib injury and did not return. So this again, with the Colts not being a very
competitive team for the second week in a row, one of the bigger story points is an opponent
with an unsportsmanlike act against him. So Th so Thibodeau of course sacked Nick Foles while he was laying on the ground,
just absolutely messed up and did like a 10 minute snow angel,
like just otherworldly.
And at first I didn't think it was a big deal.
Cause I was like,
okay,
he probably doesn't know that Foles is just laying there,
but then he looked over at him and kept doing it.
Um,
and then I didn't see it,
but you had mentioned he did like a, a sleep gesture on the sideline after that, which is pretty bad.
What did you think about that?
But also, what did you think of the fact that no one came to Foles' defense?
Like, I personally hate that.
Like, I don't like to see guys not react.
Yeah, no, I think that is more of the storyline from our end here obviously
gave on tibideau um you know it's weird you know i don't i'm not one of those people it's like oh
always show class and stuff like that it's an emotional game it's gonna you know there's a lot
of things going on and and you know honestly some of the best moments in all sports history
are trash talking or taunting and stuff like that. I'm not saying that I support, you know,
looking at some guy writhing in pain with potentially like busted rib and continue
celebrating or they go to the sideline and do the sleep thing. But that's, you know, that's
something else. But yeah, I know, I think more of the concerning thing, especially for fans or people
who enjoy the Colts, you know, the offensive line is just so checked out right now
where the rest of the offensive line,
the entire offense is so checked out right now
that there's a dude celebrating right next to their quarterback
writhing in pain on the ground and just nothing.
There's just no reaction.
There's no anything.
So, yeah, I don't really know what to say about that. It's just like the team is just
dead in the water. And there's no sign of hope for the rest of this season, at least maybe in
the future after they get their quarterback and hopefully new head coach. But yeah, you can just
tell right there, this team was completely checked out. And they've been checked out,
you know, since that Vikings loss, this team has been team was completely checked out. And they've been checked out since that Vikings loss.
This team has been very, very checked out.
And today in that play in particular was great,
just kind of showing for how checked out this team is.
Yeah, there's really no coming back from a comeback like the Vikings had, really.
In the last two weeks, they already were a bad team,
but they just completely no-show, just 13 points in the last two games. You're right. They are totally checked out. And
there was some more, you know, ugly moments. Dexter Lawrence is just a mammoth person. He is
as strong as it's going to get a defensive tackle, but he bull rushed Quentin Nelson back into
another sack against, I think it was Ellinger. But yeah,
just some low lights again. And that's another guy who you hope to see performing at a high level
if no one else is. And of course, he had one of the opposite highlights of the day, if you will.
So Sam Ellinger comes in, does a little better than F than foals overall the two combined for 124 net passing yards
i think that's that's the third their third lowest of the season uh just so happens the other two are
nick foals last start against the chargers and elgar's last start against the patriots
um so did you see anything uh better i guess from elling, because I've got to imagine he starts next week. Why not?
I mean, the second he came in, it was more enjoyable to the eyes.
Nick Foles had yet another play in this game where a defender was about to wrap him up in
the backfield for a sack, and they let go of him because, I guess, he's so fragile that teams don't
want to hit him. And then he scampers around like a baby deer and throws the ball over his
receiver's head. I mean, it's just, it's hard watching Nick Foles.
I mean, the pick six was just atrocious, atrocious throw,
just way too far inside and late.
And it turned into that, that touchdown for the giants.
And so just having Sam Ellinger out there where he wasn't turning the ball
over, he did add a little bit with his legs. He did throw a touchdown pass was a little bit more enjoyable but at the end of the day i mean sam ellinger
he's probably a backup at best like his absolute peak in the nfl is a backup caliber player
so it's not like you know him coming out there it's like oh gosh here comes our savior it's like
okay here's here's somebody that we're throwing out there here's a preseason type quarterback
that we're throwing out there so uh yeah the offense moved a little bit better with him but there are so
many issues from top to bottom with this offense right now from quarterback play to play calling
which i think is easily the worst thing right now um to offensive line play you know not being
great been better but not great uh and then then obviously the pass catchers have just not really made many plays of
late. This Colts offense is absolutely broken.
And even if you are somebody who's not on board with,
oh tear down this entire roster and rebuild,
you at least have to agree that you have to tear down almost everything about
this offense and rebuild.
Like maybe the guys on rookie contracts you keep in there.
And then obviously guys like Quentin Nelson and Braden Smith that you can't
get out of, but everything else,
you just tear it all down and you start from scratch because it is,
it is so, so bad right now in offense.
Yeah. Yeah, it truly is. And you,
you had mentioned coaching wise it wasn't a good one either.
Jeff Saturday had kind of another, another questionable decision,
you know, fourth and one from the five yard line from the Giants five yard line, you kick the field decision, you know, fourth and one from the five-yard line,
from the Giants' five-yard line, you kick the field goal.
You know, it's funny because Jim Ursa said he's not going to play scared,
but that's a scared move.
You're already a bad team.
Like, just try and go for the bigger points.
And then, of course, the offensive play calling,
more predictable early down runs and just bland stuff,
not much pushing down the field.
And one last thought on Nick Foles, you know,
we said if he was going to go in there,
obviously there would be more shots downfield,
but the unfortunate nature of that is he's just not as accurate.
So, you know, when those shots are going downfield,
it's almost a moot point because they're not necessarily on target,
but I don't
know really else what else we could say about the offense one guy to give a shout out these last
couple weeks Zach Moss man I I kind of like Zach Moss he runs hard he looks elusive between the
tackles I mean honestly and I say this with I think Jonathan Taylor is a phenomenal running
back but he just got the gifts early this season with how bad this offensive line was playing. I think Zach Moss these last two weeks
has been the Colts best in between the tackle rusher that we've seen all season, even more
than Jonathan Taylor. Cause again, Jonathan Taylor was just so uncomfortable behind this
offensive line early in the season that he just kind of got the yips. And then obviously he dealt
with injuries and fumbles. Zach Moss has run the ball really hard between the tackles.
He's run the ball well.
He's finding those little creases and creating things.
So that's the only thing positive I could say about the Colts offense.
Zach Moss, good on you.
Good job out there.
That's all I can say.
Yeah, it hasn't mattered because the run game has not been something they've been able to dictate the game with at all.
But it has been effective with him not much they haven't had much use for Dion Jackson because Moss has been toting
the ball pretty well so like you said good on him before we move on to discuss the defense let me
tell you about our new partner that I'm actually pretty geeked about and that's the mobile game

Ultimate Football GM, start your dynasty today.
Okay, I'm Zach.
So as far as the defense goes,
there wasn't going to be much goodness happening anyways.
I wrote after the game, they kind of came into this one hamstrung to begin with.
No Isaiah Rogers and no Kenny Moore, of course. Brandon Faison got
knocked out of the game early on as well. Yannick Ngakwe was put on IR over the weekend. So
they're just, you know, it's already an impossible situation with a terrible offense. And now you're
down some of your better players. Yeah, it didn't go well. It, you know, kind of predictably,
of course. Were there any bright spots that you saw in this one at all? I mean, the Colts defense is pretty much packed
it in at this point. I can't really blame them. It's, you know, it is what it is, but I thought
we saw a couple of decent rushes from Quiddie Paye at times, but I wouldn't really say that he was a
bright spot. DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart made some things happen,
but again, hard to say bright spot.
Zyra Franklin and Bobby Okereke.
You know, Bobby Okereke, I think he forced that fumble
at the beginning of the second half.
And then Zyra Franklin had a couple more tackles.
I want to see, I think Zyra Franklin's like really close
to the all-time single season tackle record
set by Shaquille Leonard back in 2018.
I think he has to be like one or two tackles off going into this last game.
But if that's the only thing that, you know,
I think that's the only thing we can really look at as a positive on this
defense is, hey, cool, we might be making history in this loss season.
But, yeah, outside of that, there's nothing really to write home about.
Dallas had kind of a time out there stepping in as a starter.
And, yeah, just very little pass rush.
Corners were playing off coverage and not really sticking to their guys.
And Daniel Jones was just absolutely killing them with their legs,
which I think we all kind of knew that was – I mean,
if we actually were covering this game in the lead-up to this week
and actually talking about it and, like, if this game actually mattered,
we would talk about, hey, you know, the Colts defense, I think,
is, like, 31st in the NFL and EPA per play when
Colts or when the quarterbacks are like rolling out of the pocket or on the
run.
And you can also look at the scrambling numbers and how the Colts are
allowing a really high number of scrambling yards to opposing quarterbacks.
It's just, it was a recipe for the Colts to have a good game.
And I came out there and showed him the Giants offense really
did not have any struggles at all moving up and down the field scoring in this one.
No, Jones looked like a star in this one. I mean, he looked like, you know, with the Giants being a
playoff team now, he looked like one of the better quarterbacks in the league, which the Colts have a
knack for letting that happen over the last couple years.
But no, I think he ran for just over 90 yards, had four total touchdowns.
Like, he was an absolute stud.
Saquon Barkley looked good, of course.
They didn't let him kill them, but I thought he still was pretty effective.
Richie James from the Giants had a really good day.
Yeah, I mean, I have way more compliments for the Giants on this one. As for the Colts, Bobby Okereke, I thought he had
some nice moments. Had that rough, unnecessary roughness penalty when Daniel Jones with the
late slide. So I don't really fault him too much for that one. Like, you kind of got to do what you got to do. But, yeah, not a great day overall.
So, looking forward to this one.
I don't really know what else we can say about this game.
It was just another ugly affair.
So, Texans, one more game left.
It's at home, luckily.
Shoot, is there anything that you saw today that you'd like to see them build on next week or what?
No.
Next question.
Next question, Jake.
No.
No, there's nothing.
I don't want to see anything from today into next week.
But honestly, before we talk Texans or before we even get out of here, because we just wanted to give you guys a quick game recap here.
There's really not much to talk about.
Again, a 38-10 loss where the Colts were not even somewhat competitive in this game.
It's hard to talk about it in a lost season like this.
But you've got to realize that no matter how bad teams are,
it is extremely hard in the NFL to lose by more than two scores consistently.
It's extremely hard.
It never happens.
Most football games in the
NFL come to one score games you know that's for the Giants today the last like what like last
10 games they ran or something like that last 11 games are all one score games all eight of
their victories before today was a one score game victory uh but now you're looking at this Colts
team under Jeff Saturday since they made all these changes and stuff like that three of their last
four games three of the last four losses have been by more than two scores like and they have not even
been somewhat close in the last two and then that Cowboys game was just just downright awful the only
game that wasn't a two-score loss in that stretch was the biggest blown lead in the history of the
sport so if you want to talk about just how bad this team is right now
like i don't think we can just say they're a normal bad team or like oh this is just a down
year no this is like historically like embarrassing like this is bizarre it's bizarre yeah it's the
most embarrassing stretch of football that i've not only covered but probably that i've ever seen
and again i come from the washington market i saw saw the Monday night massacre when I was a kid with the Eagles in Washington,
when Washington was starting a quarterback that they had just acquired from the Eagles. So like
it gets, it's embarrassing, but this stretch of football, this last four or five game stretch
is the most embarrassing stretch I've ever seen from a team. And honestly, we're seeing it all,
like almost all on prime time. Like it almost all on prime time. It's consistently on
prime time. And I think what adds to that embarrassment is the Colts had expectations
coming to this season. This isn't the 2011 Colts where we kind of knew that they were not going to
win anything. This isn't like the Texans this season, for instance, who are going to have a
higher pick than the Colts. They kind of knew that they were going to be there. The Colts had playoff aspirations and they were getting boat raced every single
week, you know, for the last four weeks. Like again, outside of just the one, the one comeback
meltdown, you know, where that was technically a close game in the end, they were, they're just
getting boat raced. Like they're not even competitive with these teams. So I don't really
know what we can say positive about this team going forward.
Because yes, you could say Packaday, that's a lost season.
It helps the draft pick anyway.
But this just doesn't happen in the NFL.
Teams don't, you know, with bad teams, they're at least kind of competitive.
Yes, we do see lopsided losses.
And if you're a bad team, typically your point differential is going to be pretty bad.
But the Colts surpassed the Texans, you know, in point differential.
I think they're at like a negative 100-something, like 130 now or something,
something crazy.
They're negative 79 point differential under Jeff Saturday,
which is like over 10 points a game with them.
Like this is just a terrible, terrible football team,
and it's as bad as it gets.
It's as bad and as embarrassing as it gets.
So honestly, the only thing I'm looking forward to next week against the end of the game,
because this season will be over and we can get some more fun stuff.
But yeah, right now, I don't really know what to say about this team.
Like it because like, again, in the NFL, at least you're competitive a lot.
This is not even a competitive football team.
Yeah, and it's not like there's any one thing you could point your finger at. Like all
you can look at are the stats. Cause those numbers don't lie. Like this was there. You had mentioned
the multi-score losses. This was their sixth to score to score more loss of the year. And like
that alone is just, Oh, there's, there's just so many damning stats you can look at, and it's just not good at all.
But I think you're right.
We're about to hit full off-season mode on this,
and it cannot come soon enough.
Yeah.
I will say to Basil Fawiti241,
I don't think I was alive when the obstacles were happening,
so this is why I'm saying that this is the most embarrassing I've seen.
But, yeah, no, it's the most embarrassing I've seen.
I'm not saying it's the most embarrassing
in the history of the sport,
but yeah, there's just no words to this.
Like, and the last thing I'll say is,
you know, there's a very common moniker
that is said around football
is your team takes the identity of your head coach.
I'm not saying Jeff Saturday
had any chances of succeeding here,
but your team is taking as embarrassing and as identity as your head coaches.
You know,
it was embarrassing that Jeff Saturday became the head coach of this team.
And as a result,
this team is extremely embarrassing right now.
They're taking that identity of an embarrassing coach that has no clue what
they're doing.
And now they're an embarrassing team.
It looks like they have no clue what they're doing out there.
So yeah,
that's,
that's my little rant.
That's all I can really say in this post game here. But before we take off, guys,
I want to tell you all about our sponsor, Built Bars. Looking for a delicious treat? Don't want
all the fat calories? Well, then you've got to try out Built Bar. We just got through the holidays.

All right, Jay. So closing remarks. I know I kind of,
I kind of dominated that last little segment there about talking about,
you know, just the state of the team, but do you have anything that you want to kind of close this out here, Jake?
I don't, I think I said everything that needs to be said for me, at least.
Yeah, honestly, no, I don't really know what,
what anything better can be said about this team. It's, you know, a lot of,
a lot of people have seen a lot of bad football. You know, if,
if you've watched or recover this team for a decade
or more or anything you've seen some bad stuff 2011 was really bad 2017. this is compared to the
fact that there were expectations like you mentioned earlier this is the most disappointing
colt squad i can ever remember like they're and it's it started way back in week 17 last year you know they just totally died and
looked lifeless and it's carried on throughout the entire year so I'm ready for the football
part of the season to be over because I'm very ready for the offseason for those of you who
who's not ready for a new quarterback this was a great weekend for it you got to see CJ Stroud out
there Bryce Young.
Those guys were awesome. So this team is going to be pretty much locked into a top five pick, and hopefully they are able to land one of those guys. So let's get to the offseason, man.
Definitely, definitely. Before we close this out, guys, in the comments section,
put your prediction for Texans and Colts next weekend. Be as honest and as serious as you want.
How bad do the Texans beat the Colts next week?
Because look, the Colts or the Texans are bad, but the Colts are so much worse right now.
So please put some fun predictions there in the comment section.
