Visit FanDuel.com to get started. Hello, everyone. My
name is Zach Hicks, your favorite film nerd over at HorseshoeHuddle.com. My typical co-host,
Jake Arthur, is not here today, but he is our eyes, ears, and boots on the ground there for
Indianapolis Colts media over at Horseshoe Huddle as well. You guys know him. You love him. He's
not, again, he's not here today, but I'm sure you'll see him throughout the week here when it comes to covering this game in Jacksonville
against the Jaguars. Today, we're talking about the Colts CVS receipt list of injuries that they
have on the team. The Colts just released their final injury report of the week. So we have that
super long list to go through in our first segment. Then we're going to do our final preview on the Colts offense and the Colts defense heading into this dreaded matchup with the Jaguars. So
without further ado, let's jump into it. First off, again, this injury list is gnarly right now
for this Colts team. We're looking at Kenny Moore II, Quidipe, and Jonathan Taylor, all already
ruled out for the week.
Those players are not going to play.
Taylor did not get any practices in this week after spraining his ankle in the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Now, the Colts are calling it a mild high ankle sprain, so maybe he has a chance to
come back against the Tennessee Titans in week six.
But again, we don't really know.
Ankles can be a little bit tricky when it comes to running back.
I mean, heck, if you want to see how tricky one can be, look back at Jonathan Taylor's
ankle history in his NFL career.
So hopefully back against the Tennessee Titans, if not, maybe the following week against Miami
Dolphins.
But we're going to play that one by ear.
Quidipe and Kenny Moore II are set to miss their second straight games.
Neither player practiced last week, or I think Quidi Pei
practiced on Friday in a limited capacity last week. Didn't log any practices this week. Kenny
Moore didn't log, hasn't logged any practices the last two weeks. So they're both set to miss time.
Replacing those players, you know, replacing Kenny Moore at slot corner, we have Chris Lamond,
who was up and down a little bit last week, but he did force a fumble on a sack of Justin Fields against the Pittsburgh Steelers that ultimately helped the Colts put that
game away. So, you know, that's positive from one of his backups there. Quiddy Paye, you know,
he's one of many Colts edge rushers that is missing this game. So when we're talking about
who's replacing him, we can mention Dio Dangbo, Isaiah Land, Jernard Avery might get a chance to play in
this one. The Colts are down to their last little legs there when it comes to edge rusher. So
Quidipe joins again that laundry list of players missing at edge and then replacing Jonathan
Taylor. It's the Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson show and we haven't seen this show in a while.
You know I think it goes back to last year's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, not
last week's, last year's game against that team where Goodson and Terry Sermon were essentially
the lead backs for a majority of that game.
I think Zach Moss went down with an injury in the second quarter of that game, and it
was Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson the rest of the way.
And hey, both players were pretty solid in that game, did a good job of leading the Colts
to victory.
So fingers crossed those two can step up.
I fully expect it to be like a 65 to 35 type split in terms of snaps in the backfield.
Sermon getting a majority of the looked, especially on passing downs with his pass blocking ability.
And then Tyler Goodson coming in for kind of that lightning to the thunder that is Trey Sermon.
So we will see
a healthy dose of both players. If you're a fantasy guy jumping on this episode looking for who to
pick up for the Colts, I don't know. Trey Sermon probably has a better chance that the goal line
carries if the Colts get to the red zone. So I would probably say Trey Sermon, but Goodson might
be a sneaky little play because the Colts will probably get him a couple screens, a couple of
quick touches, and he can showcase that explosive ability. Now those are just the players
that are currently ruled out. Now we go to Anthony Richardson and Ryan Kelly, who Shane Steichen,
and I quote here, said, we'll see. So we'll see the status on Anthony Richardson and Ryan Kelly.
It seems a little bit more optimistic for Anthony Richardson than it does for Ryan Kelly.
But Anthony Richardson, after straining his oblique in this past game against the Pittsburgh Steelers
and missed the final three quarters of that game, he practiced in a limited capacity all week.
So he did a lot of individual drills.
He dressed for practice, went through a lot of mental reps,
but he didn't get any team reps in with the first team offense.
So Joe Flacco has got all the first team offense snaps
this week and team drills. But Anthony Richardson has been present at practice. He's been active in
practice. So we could really see that one going either way. I think it's 50-50. It really comes
down to Richardson's soreness and how comfortable he feels pulling through in his throwing motion
with his hips going into that game because the hips are the base of all your power when it comes to throwing as a quarterback like when I'm just talking about the limited mobility
aspect here pretty much all of your accuracy and your power are derived from your hips
as a quarterback so if you're feeling stiffness or you're feeling soreness there it can drastically
like decrease your velocity on your throws and decrease your accuracy on pulling through and
completing your throwing motion so we might see Richardson go this week. I'm not too sure. I think the limited practices
are kind of promising, but also at the same time, he didn't get many reps in with the first team
this week. So I could really see that one going either way. When it comes to Ryan Kelly, he did
not log a practice at all this week after missing the final two last week with his neck injury that I guess flared up last week and caused him to miss this past game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
So while he is listed as questionable and his is probably more of a pain tolerance thing as well, it probably like it doesn't seem very good.
It doesn't seem likely that he's going to go this week.
So it does look like the Colts are going to be down Ryan Kelly in this game as well. And then we also have Braden Smith, who is questionable
this game. You know, he's kind of more of a soft questionable for me because he kind of like he's
done the same pregame motions, I guess, the last two weeks in terms of not practicing on Wednesday,
full practice Thursday, not practice Friday,
and then he's been good to go on game day on that Sunday. Now we saw this past week against
the Steelers. He was good to get out there. He played in every snap and looked really good
against TJ Watts. So I'm expecting him to go in this game despite the, again, two did not
practices this week on Wednesday and Friday. He did full practice on Thursday, like again,
like he did last week. So I fully expect Braden Smith to go in this game, but we'll see. We'll see. But
replacing those guys, if they are out, replacing Anthony Richardson would be Joe Flacco, who came
in and played some good ball and relief last week and helped the Colts get to victory against the
Steelers. Tanner Bortolini would be replacing Ryan Kelly, who Bortolini definitely a step down from
Ryan Kelly, but had a really good definitely a step down from Ryan Kelly, but
had a really good debut game last week. His first game being dressed, his first game starting in the
NFL, did some really good things. And then if Braden Smith is unable to go, then we have another
rookie starting on the offensive line in Matt Gonsalves, who hasn't seen an offensive snap this
season, but it would be his first career start if he got out there for Braden Smith. This also, keep in mind that we are talking about all these injuries for this week.
The Colts also currently have DeForest Buckner, Tyquan Lewis, and Samson Ebukom,
and also Cam McGrone.
I know he's a special teamer, but just another player to mention there.
All those players are currently on injured reserve.
So when you're stacking it all up, what, the Colts have six starters that are currently
ruled out for this game.
Three other starters are questionable with maybe two of those guys unlikely to play.
I mean, that's like nine of your 22 guys right there that you were looking at being starters coming into the season.
So this Colts team is very banged up right now, very, very hampered by injuries.
And it's going to impact the game on Sunday. Like I know at the end of the day,
you have to get the job done against an Owen 14 that is down on their luck.
And you've had a lot of the rumors about this Jaguars team with giving up on
the coaching and quitting on their coaching staff and just being disjointed.
But this is a really banged up Colts team.
And we're not talking about minor starters here for the team.
We're talking Kenny Moore,
pro bowl player, Quitty pay one of their better edge rushers,
Jonathan Taylor, former All-Pro, Anthony Richardson, starting quarterback, Ryan Kelly,
Braden Smith, both fringe Pro Bowlers, if not, you know, guaranteed Pro Bowlers,
DeForest Buckner, former All-Pro, like these are the best players on this Colts team or the most important players on this Colts team that are set to miss this game against the Jaguars.
So it's not insignificant, this injury report for the Colts.
There's a lot of banged up pieces on this team.
Hopefully the coaching can step up and the coaching can kind of will them to victory.
But this is a banged up Colts team.
And hopefully they can go in and win ugly in Jacksonville, a place they haven't won
in what, nearly a decade or over a decade now.
Like, it is getting to a crazy point right now with this curse.
But coming up, we're going to preview the Colts offense.
I know there's a lot of moving pieces with the Colts offense, but we're going to preview what this offense can look like against the Jaguars team that, again, is kind of struggling right now at 0 and 4. But first, with Robinhood Gold, you don't need a

Locked on Colts every day as we're back previewing Indianapolis Colts,
Jacksonville Jaguars, the dreaded curse.
Colts are going down there to Jacksonville,
and it's going to be an ugly game, rainy game, disgusting game.
And the Colts might be out there starting quarterback. They're starting center. They're
starting right tackle. Now the Jaguars are dealing with injuries too, and their defense
has just not been great this season. They've been competitive, but it's been a really banged up unit
on the Jaguars defense. I know Josh Hines-Allen has been dealing with a concussion, I think,
all week. Tyson Campbell, their best outside corner, has been on IR for a good bit of this season.
It's been a banged up Jaguars team.
One thing I will say, though, about this Jaguars defense is their defensive coordinator, Ryan Nielsen,
was one of the few defense coordinators that really got to Shane Steichen last year.
Now, I do think part of that is that Falcons
defense that he was coaching last season, really good Falcons defense, had a really good cornerback
room last year. And what they were doing was a lot of press man coverage against Indianapolis
Colts team that was down Michael Pittman Jr. So it really was effective in taking away the RPO
looks really effective in taking away what the Colts want to do in the passing game. And they
just did not have the receivers to create the separation. Now you're
looking at this game and you know, Alec Pierce is in the middle of a best career season. Michael
Pittman Jr. is healthy. You have Josh Downs is again back in his slot role doing his thing in
this one. And then even an AD Mitchell who hasn't had a great rookie season so far has shown the
ability to beat press consistently and get open at the NFL level.
I do think the Colts have more weapons coming into this matchup than they did last year against
that Falcons team that Ryan Nielsen coordinated very, very well against this Colts team. So
it is kind of a different matchup, but it is something to keep in mind that this is a defense
coordinator that gave Shane Steichen some fits last year. And we'll have to see if the same thing
kind of continues this year. Ultimately, though, when it comes to this Colts offense, it's such a big difference
in which quarterback is starting. If Joe Flacco is starting this game, it becomes a very Gardner
Minshew like game plan. Now, Flacco can push the ball down the field a little bit more than Gardner
Minshew could last year, but it is a similar type of game plan where we're going to lean on the RPO game. We're
going to lean on empty sets to get the ball out quick, some quick screens to get players moving
a little bit. And instead of attacking vertically down the field against this press coverage team,
we're going to try to put those press coverages into binds with trip sets, stack sets, bunches,
and really just throw off how they're going to be communicating in those sets. Maybe do a lot of that orbit motion with Josh Downs and make them communicate a lot
pre-snap and open up run lanes at the middle, open up kind of quick hitters over the middle.
Now, if Anthony Richardson plays in this game, you kind of just say bombs away with the offense.
You know, I know you want to get Richardson going in the quick game, in the layup game,
and I do think there are ways to do that with screen stuff against press man teams.
But when you have a player like A.D. Mitchell who knows how to get open against
pretty much anyone at this point, when you have Michael Pittman Jr.'s physicality
against backup corners, you have Alec Pierce's ability to stretch it vertical
with what he's been doing this season, you kind of just say bombs away
if Richardson can play in this one
because you're going to be getting
a lot of favorable looks in press coverage.
I know the Jaguars have been mixing it up a little bit,
but they do love their press man coverage
under Ryan Nielsen.
So I do think you have a lot of opportunities
for explosives as Richardson plays in this game,
even if you take away his impact in the run game
with a limited hip or whatever
it's going to be in this game.
But I do think if Richardson plays, you know, again, there's a lot of opportunities for pushing it down the field,
a lot of opportunities for those explosives.
If Flacco plays, it becomes more of a, you know, a test of will, sort of.
You attack underneath, you attack with bunches, you try to get their communication off,
and you just try to outlast this Jaguars team
in a really rainy and ugly environment. But yeah, the Colts have struggled to score in this matchup
in the past down in Jacksonville. I know every year is a different game, but it doesn't feel
like a different game every single year. Last year, I know we had quite a few expectations
for the Gardner Minshew-led Colts being like, well, you know, it's not the rookie Minshew at
least knows how to move the ball. He's getting out there. And then Minshew came out and threw
three picks and was a really like weird version of himself. A guy who typically controlled the ball
went down there and just started turning the ball over like it was like it was free candy that he
was giving to kids or something like it was just giving the ball away in that game. Flacco has a
little bit of that tendency. If he does start, he does have some of that reckless tendency to throw the ball away and, and, and force things that are not
there. And we'll see if he gets the full start in this game. If he succumbs to the Jacksonville
curse and starts forcing the ball when it's not there and throwing picks. But ultimately I do
think again, regardless of whatever quarterbacks in there, the main, the main thing is just making sure you're not turning the ball over in this game.
I know we said a lot going into that Pittsburgh game, said a lot going into the Chicago game and the Colts.
Not really in the Chicago game, but they did much better with it in the Pittsburgh game.
They won the turnover battle for once last week against Pittsburgh.
But ultimately, when you're playing a team like Jacksonville, who right now is really down and out, they're 0-4, coaching has not been their strong point this year.
Trevor Lawrence is struggling.
Their defense has been competitive, but they're just really like understaffed right now with
who they have healthy.
The key to this game really is getting first downs, maybe mixing in a couple explosives
like those are always great, but getting first downs, moving the ball and not not giving them short fields. You know, if you're turning the ball over,
which again, this applies to both Richardson and Flacco, whichever guy is starting in this game,
if you're turning the ball over and giving short fields, even an inept offense that's struggling
with a quarterback struggling and a play caller struggling, they can convert points on that. Like
it's easy to convert points if you're starting on the opposition's 30, their opposition's 40. So make their offense work for it by being successful on your offense.
Continually move the ball, get first downs, hit explosives. If you have to get field goals,
that's fine. I know that's the bane of my existence is talking field goals on this show,
but if you have to get field goals, it's fine. Make their offense go the length of the field
and really drive on your defense because if you give them short fields, they're going to be able to score.
That's just the fact of life right there.
If you give even a bad offense short fields, they can score.
So the Colts got to be careful with this one.
I think they got to be strategic on offense,
have a high success rate in this one if you want to win.
But yeah, again, the game plan really comes down to so many different things
depending on who's starting at quarterback. Flacco out again, quick hitters lean on a different style of
run game too, because you can't really do much in terms of like the plus one QB advantage. Like
when Richardson's out there, even if he's not running the ball, every handoff becomes a read
option because that backside defensive end has to has to keep his eyes on him with Flacco. Nobody's
really worried about Flacco keeping that ball. So you have to mix in a little bit more RPOs. So there is some hesitancy in the
defense to some degree. So there's a lot of different ways the Colts can approach this game
on offense. I wish I had more answers for what the Colts are going to do, because
again, it's hard to have all the answers when there's so many guys in limbo right now
with the injuries. But I do think, again, against a press man defense, a team that's been really leaning on that press
man coverage, lean into your advantages with A.D. Mitchell and Alec Pierce, two guys that have
shown the ability to beat press this year and get vertical. I do think there is some opportunity for
those guys to get down the field, especially if Richardson plays. But even if he doesn't,
like Joe Flacco getting out there, I would put my money on, I would put my money on a 180 Mitchell big ball hitting this year,
like a big shot hitting this, this week. I don't know if it's going to happen because again,
these quarterbacks have been so hit or miss when it comes to actually getting him the ball when he
wins vertical, but this is such a good matchup for 80 Mitchell. If he gets out there for even 13,
14, 15 snaps,
all it takes is one double move to be a 60 yard touchdown.
It feels like they're inches away from that happening.
So hopefully this can be the game where, you know, he gets an,
he gets an opportunity backside press man coverage with his ability to win on these double moves and these, in these quick vertical routes.
I think this can be a good week for Eddie Mitchell, but again,
the connection's been so broken all year. Who knows that that actually hits? But just looking at the game plan, it looks like
it can be a good week for A.D. Mitchell. Hopefully that pans out this week. But coming up, guys,
we are going to switch over and transition to the Colts defense, talk about what they can do to keep
this Jacksonville Jaguars offense that has really struggled this year, just keep them down in the dumps and continually struggling.
But first, NFL fans, you can start this season with a big return on FanDuel, America's number
one sportsbook.
So when you get a hunch in the middle of a game, you can check out the latest stats,
you live play by play, and so much more on the same page where you place your bets.
You guys will get started with $200 in bonus bets guaranteed when you place your first $5 bet.
FanDuel is a really cool place, guys.
You can go there.
Like I just said, I think A.D. Mitchell has a big game in terms of at least one long catch that might convert for a touchdown.
If you're feeling like me where this can be the game where A.D. Mitchell finally converts on one of these vertical passes, put some money on A.D. Mitchell.
You know, you can put an anytime touchdown on A.D. Mitchell.
Put over 50 yards receiving or something on A.D. Mitchell.
Go to FanDuel.com and put down whatever you feel confident.
Again, that's FanDuel.com.
All right.
Locked on Colts every day as we're back previewing Indianapolis Colts,
Jacksonville Jaguars.
We are talking the curse.
We're talking Colts defense.
And then we're talking final score projection for this game.
You guys obviously heard Jake talking with Tony yesterday.
He did his big preview on the Thursday show.
So this is kind of my preview for this game.
Ultimately, I think when it comes down to the Colts defense in
this one, it really is the same strategy as the last two weeks where as long as one phase of your
defense is fine, I think you have a good chance of getting your offense a chance to win in this one.
And what I mean by that is I don't care if it's your run defense that comes to play in this one
and holds them to two yards to carry or three yards to carry, whatever it is. That's awesome. I don't care if it's your pass defense that comes to play in this one and holds them to two yards to carry or three yards to carry, whatever it is, that's awesome. I don't care if it's your pass defense that comes
to play in this one. One of those units needs to step up. It can't be like week one against the
Houston Texans. It can't be like the first half against the Green Bay Packers where both units
were just abysmal and it led to this team getting beat down. As long as one of the units show up,
and mostly it's been the run defense the last couple weeks, the last, what, eight quarters now, last 10 quarters now of the season, the Colts run defense
has been really good. You know, they've had Nick Crossmore in the box, and he's been one of the
best run defending safeties in football. Zyra Franklin and EJ Speed have really stepped up.
Grover Stewart looks like Grover Stewart. So as long as those guys step up and do what they've
been doing the last 10 quarters or so of play, then this Colts run defense can be a positive impact and force the Jacksonville Jaguars into longer third down situations where they have struggled this year.
Now, what we have seen with the Colts the last two weeks, though, is they have allowed opposing offenses to throw for over 300 yards a week these last two games, but it's resulted in two wins for the Colts. So again, I don't care if your pass defense is leaky and struggling and not perfect. As long as your run defense is great and
you're forcing them to be one dimensional, you have a good chance at winning this game. Now,
do I want the pass defense to be good as well? Yes, obviously I want that to be good,
but I'm being realistic here. They have two injuries at corner. Juju Brents is out. That's
another injury I missed at the top of the show. Juju Brents is also on IR.
Kenny Moore is going to miss this game.
And then at pass rush, I mean, they're missing three, four of their top five pass rushers.
I mean, Laotu, Latu, and Dayo Dangbo are healthy, but every other top pass rusher is hurt.
I mean, their NASCAR package right now is Laotu, Latu, Dayo, Dangbo,
Adetomiwa, Adabore, ore and what Taven Brian right now,
like that's what we're looking at. Maybe you put their own Isaiah land in there. But like,
that's their NASCAR package right now with rushing the passer. So being realistic,
expecting this deep that this defense to be a shutdown smothering pass defense right now is
just not realistic. But what we can expect is at least them to show up and run defense
force the Jaguars to be one dimensional. And then hopefully you can take advantage of a couple of mistakes like they did
against the Pittsburgh Steelers, forcing two fumbles like they did against the Chicago Bears,
forcing two interceptions. That's how you win football games with a defense that is shorthanded
right now. So again, it's kind of the same strategy as the last two weeks where it's like
stuff the box against the run, play physical run defense, make sure that they can't, you know, break any big, big explosives on the ground game like they
did last week. I mean, that's why they were competitive against Houston Texans because
they were able to run the ball in the Texans in that game. So be be strong, competitive in the
run game. And then when it comes to pass defense, like, again, just just limit the explosives,
keep things in front of him and then take advantage of the opportunities you're going to get.
Trevor Lawrence, I mean, aside from Anthony Richardson,
has been one of the most inaccurate quarterbacks in football this year.
I think his completion percentage is, what, like 53% right now, 54%.
He is missing a lot of targets high.
He's missing them low.
And he's giving defenses a chance to capitalize on turnover.
So for the Colts in this game, again,
it doesn't matter if he comes out and throws for 300. If he throws two picks in this game and you can give your offense, you know,
short field position, that's the strategy for winning this one. So really for this defense,
it comes down to just keep doing what you've been doing. Maybe not get as soft as Gus Bradley did in
that second half last week when they were kind of in put away mode, but like, yeah, just come out
and do what you've been doing. Be strong on first
and second down, force third and long. Don't give up the explosives in the passing game and survive
that way. It doesn't need to be a game where you only allow nine points, 10 points, like whatever.
It can be more of a higher scoring game, but just keep the flow the way it's been. You know,
give your offense a chance to win this game, regardless of who's starting at quarterback.
And I think this Colts will have a good chance in this one. So yeah, again, don't let Trevor
Lawrence bounce back, take away the run game and just limit those explosives. And I think this
Colts defense will have a good chance. Again, the Jaguars have been kicking themselves when they've
been down this year, make that trend continue, make them have to make the mistakes, you know,
make them have to go down the field, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15 play drives
or whatever. Like don't, don't make it easy for them. And they have to continually march down the
field. And you do that bend, don't break style of defense that we all know and love. They're
eventually going to make a mistake. They've been a very disjointed offense this year. So make them
work for it. You know, like don't, don't make it easy by giving up explosives, make them work for
every inch, make them have to convert a bunch of third downs because odds are they're going to make
a mistake like they have all season long.
But before I get out of here, though, I do want to tell you guys my score prediction.
Now, I'm continuing with the trend where this year the Colts are 2-2 and I am 0-4 in my
picks.
I have picked the Colts to win the first two weeks, and then I got very pessimistic and
picked against them the next two weeks.
So obviously picking against the Colts is the strategy here. So I'm going to pick the
Jacksonville Jaguars to continue the curse against Indianapolis Colts. I'll go 24 to 20 in this one.
We'll go Jaguars winning this game. So that is my official prediction. So football gods,
if you're listening, hopefully you can make me 0-5 on the season with my predictions because I would love to be wrong yet again. But in all seriousness,
I think this is a winnable game for the Colts. You got to take advantage of a team that is just
beating themselves up right now. Don't give them that chance to bounce back. It's a good
opportunity for the Colts to really get, you know, a stranglehold on second place in the division
while the Titans and the Jaguars have had their struggles to start the year.
So hopefully, you know, again, regardless of who starts a quarterback or center or right
tackle or anywhere on defense with all these injuries, regardless of who's starting out
there for this Colts team, you know, good teams find a way.
If the Colts want to be a good team that is in contention come December and January, they
need to win a game like this.
So it really comes down to this coaching staff. The good players that are going to be out there
are the star players that are actually going to be on the field. Come up, show up for this game,
play hard, and hopefully they can get a win against, again, the Jaguars team that's really
been reeling. But we'll see. We'll see. We got a cursed environment. We got half the team hurt.
Quarterback's one of those guys that are hurt like it is looking
like a you know a tough matchup but I think this Colts team is again well coached team that's
finding their rhythm hopefully they can carry that rhythm into this game and not stall out like they
have in Jacksonville the last couple years I mean I still vividly remember that 2018 game where the
Colts rattled off like what like nine straight wins 10 straight wins and the only
loss in between all that was a six to nothing loss to the Jack wires in Jacksonville where they went
for it on fourth down like four times they missed a field goal I think in that game too it's just a
disgusting game so we just know how the curse gets down there in Jacksonville hopefully the Colts can
finally break it I don't care if it's Joe Flacco, Anthony Richardson, Jason Bean, Sam
Ellinger, even Shane Steichen going out there and playing quarterback. I don't care who's playing
quarterback or running back or whatever. Please just break this curse for once. Like that is all
I ask. I think all of you guys are in agreement here. Like it doesn't matter what it looks like.
It can be a one to nothing game. I don't care. Break the curse and we are good. But that's all
I have for this week, guys. We'll be back with you
