What is up everybody? This is Jake Arthur and Zach Hicks hicks from horseshoehuddle.com and today we are chatting
about the combine the drills got started in earnest as i like to say uh and we got the
defensive linemen edge guys the linebackers some of those guys have already begun to put on a show
and that means zach has already put on his laboratory goggles and started plugging away at Bill DeBallard, guys.
And we've already got some really nice matches, guys, that seem to fit the Colts pretty, pretty well.
So we're going to talk about the edge guys, because it seems like probably one of the more likely groups that we could see the Colts add throughout the draft.
And then we'll talk about those linebackers and defensive tackles.
And then on Friday morning, I think today's Friday. I don't know anymore. I talked to some of the wide receivers. We'll get kind of the scoop on what some of those guys said.
And we're going to use our, some of our context clues and our investigation skills just to kind
of sniff out some of these guys. So let's start with the edge group first. Some of these guys
put on a show Zach, who really stood out to you? Yeah, I mean, I think for a lot of people
listening here, if you want the Colts to go in the edge route in round one, you want them to go
with either Jared verse out of Florida State or Dallas Turner out of Alabama. And last night was
certainly a great showing for anybody who wants the Colts to go with an edge rusher that early in the draft.
Jared verse from Florida state, a 9.31 RAS score, six, three, 254 pounds, four, five, eight, 40,
35 inches in the vertical jump, 10, seven in the broad hits every single metric that Chris Ballard wants in his edge rushers, long arms too. So yeah, I think Jared verse is very realistic
as a Colts player. He's
a little bit older. I think he's going to be 24 when the season starts this year, but really,
really effective, strong bull rusher, not the most bendy or, you know, cornering guy around the edge,
but he's got that explosion. He's got that strength. He's got that power and the athleticism
too, especially again in an explosion. So I think this is a very, very Chris Ballard-type guy here in Jared Burse.
Again, even with him being a little bit older,
very much a Chris Ballard edge in Jared Burse.
Yeah, absolutely.
Athletic, bendy edge rusher early on.
That's a guy who there's probably only a few of them
that Colts fans should really pay attention to in the first round.
Certainly Jared Burse, Dallas Turner.
Liatu Latu to a very lesser degree, I think. Colts fans should really pay attention to in the first round. Certainly Jared verse Dallas Turner, uh,
lie out to lot to,
to a very lesser degree.
I think he's got some things in his way that I think prevents him from being a
slam dunk type of Colts pick very talented player who I think will have some
success in the NFL.
Uh,
but certainly verse and Dallas Turner are the guys you really want to pay
attention to.
Turner has probably played himself out of contention for the Colts.
I think that guy is probably not leaving the top 10. One moment I'm absolutely in love with from
the combine already was Dallas Turner texting friend of the show, Coach Eddie McGilbra,
watch this right before the running a blazing 4-4-6-40. I want to frame that moment in time.
I love that so much. But turner was already most people's
edge one going into this one stood on business as they say 9.49 raz 62247 that's okay size for an
edge but the 44640 40 and a half inch vertical and a 1007 broad outstanding you know he's got
the good wing the great wingspan as well uh there's no reason why
Turner shouldn't hear his name within the first 10 or so picks yeah and you know a big thing to
to remember with Dallas Turner is I know some people got a little doubt on him this past year
being like okay he wasn't as dominant without Will Anderson but we got to remember this was a guy who
was seeing the field as a freshman in Alabama and he was flashing alongside someone with the caliber
of play as Will Anderson.
Like when Will Anderson was out there breaking records and looking like a superstar,
on the other side, people were looking at the film and saying, hey, look,
this Dallas Turner kid can play too. Be on the lookout for Dallas Turner in the next couple
years. And while he didn't hit the levels that Will Anderson ever hit in college, I think you
could see that ability on film and what he can do. And then when you look at the athletic ability, again, 4'4", 6'40", like you said, 40.5 inch
vertical, 10'7 broad, along with these gangly arms that touch the floor.
I mean, Chris Ballard's got to be drooling over the potential of a guy like Dallas Turner.
Unfortunately, I don't think there's a chance he's going to get there at a 15.
Maybe you move up for him because you think he's that great of a pass rusher but um i think he's a fantastic player dallas turner is my edge
one in this class as well uh did some great things at alabama did some even better things here at the
combine and some teams gonna be really really happy with dallas turner so dallas turner jared
verse i think you can't go wrong with either of those guys early if you want to go with an edge
rusher and uh both those players really stood out here on the combine yeah no doubt and then so we think unless one of those guys falls in the
into their lap edge is probably not likely in the first round uh for the colts but you know you look
at some of these other guys who make a lot of sense on day two getting them in the middle rounds
uh there were a few guys that kind of stamped themselves as well. Yeah, yeah, there's multiple other guys.
Some of them who, you know, even me as a draft guy here in Colts land where I'm looking at
being like, okay, cool.
I hadn't watched that guy yet.
Let me go back to his film out to here.
One of those guys was Cedric Johnson from Ole Miss, 9.67 RAS, 6'3", 260, really good
size, 4.63, 40-yard dash, inch vertical and a 10, two broad, very, very good
numbers there, uh, for a bigger edge rusher there at two 60. So that's definitely a guy I want to
go back and watch on the film and say, Hey, you know, does the film line up with these numbers?
Because if they do, this is a project player you want to take on, you know, late day to early day
three or wherever, wherever the film suggests that he should go. Uh, though, that really stood out, Jalek's Hunt from Houston Christian.
We talked about him on yesterday's show or two days ago's show.
As a player, that makes a lot of sense for Chris Ballard.
Again, smaller school, FCS-type guy, HBCU guy, who just has all the upside in the world.
6'3", 252, 4'6", 4 in the 40, 37 and a half inch vertical,
10'8", broad, 9.73 RAS, super long arms as well.
The production wasn't always there in college,
but again, Chris Ballard doesn't really care about production.
He cares about that upside, baby, that upside.
And we're talking upside.
We got to talk about this last guy too.
We talked about him again earlier this week.
Freaky, freaky athleticism.
We kind of
knew it was coming but just to see it all in front of us is even crazier uh miles cole from texas
tech 9.96 res i think it's the top five uh relative athletic scores among defensive ends
in that database that that math bomb is put together my kenley plat is put together. Kent Lee Platt has put together. 6'6", 278 with a 4'6", 340, 35-inch vertical,
10-foot even broad jump. I mean, that is some freaky, freaky numbers. That's what we probably
would have seen out of like Dio Adangbo a couple of years ago if he actually tested. Now you're
seeing that in a player like Myles Cole. And like Jalix Hunt, Myles Cole, not super productive in
college, but a useful player on college football, great run defender.
And you're seeing the athletic potential to maybe be more in the NFL.
So I think those two guys especially, and then maybe Cedric Johnson
when I go back and watch his film, those are guys where you're looking
on day two, you're looking maybe day three as guys that you're going
to develop and turn into something.
The balls of clay, if I can say.
I think those guys
fit a lot of what the Colts could look for later in the draft with depth at the edge rusher position.
Yeah. So when Chris Ballard spoke during the combine the other day, I asked him about,
you know, Jim Nagy had mentioned rounds five, six, seven of the draft are basically going to
be depleted of what the usual talent would be. And then Chris basically
said, you know, it's, it's not that it's depleted of talent. There's actually more players. They're
older players. And you and I, I think we mentioned it on here. We took that to mean, all right,
Chris is going into his bag. We're getting our, our small school guys. We're getting our Tarleton
state guys, this and that. And especially a guy like Jalix Hunt from Houston Christian.
It seems like that.
I almost want to say it feels likely.
If you're looking at teams that make a lot of sense for a guy like Hunt,
that makes sense.
Myles Cole feels like a perfect type of fourth-round destination,
fourth, fifth-round destination for the Colts.
I would not be surprised in the least.
I think these guys are screaming Chrisris ballard picks yeah yeah definitely now coming up guys
we're going to transition over to defensive tackles and linebackers especially talking
defense tackles though where a local kid became the superstar of the nfl combine

The Pacers put on a nice little show for a couple games
while people have been in here in town for the scouting combine.
Had a nice showing against the Pelicans.
Tyrese Halliburton was doing his thing.

All right, so let's get chatting about defensive tackles and linebackers.
Positions that the Colts, they value greatly,
but maybe ones who, you know,
would be scraping the barrel a little bit to get a huge amount of fits here.
But one guy we have got to talk about number one,
cause he's local and because everyone else is talking about him and I'm going
to plant my flag here.
Cause I've been talking about him for a little bit before he blew up the
combine. Uh, that's Braden Fisk again,
kind of local guy from Michigan city, Indiana at six, four, 292 pounds.
You wouldn't expect a huge burst of athleticism.
But what I saw from him at the senior bowl, I was like, this guy does have some sneaky athleticism to him.
And here we go.
9.97 rads.
Runs a 4.7840.
33.5 inch vertical with a 9.09 broad.
The guy is turning some heads probably doesn't
check a couple of the the length boxes necessary for the colts there's a couple things that make
him not like a gloved fit um but shoot his athleticism makes him a fit dang it right
yeah yeah no braden fisk became the the darling of the combine here. And I did put a short shuttle here in our notes.
I believe it was 4-3 was a short shuttle, which was faster than Aaron Donald back in Aaron Donald's legendary combine as well.
So, yeah, Braden Fisk, man, look, this is an older player, 24 years old, I believe.
A lot of production because of how long he played in college at multiple schools, Florida State and Western Michigan, I believe is where he started his college career. But this is a guy who's played a lot of football,
got a lot of upside in his game, a lot more football to be played in his career.
And I think it's a guy where, look, teams are going to talk themselves into top 50,
top 60 or so in this draft. Now, I don't think that's going to be the Indianapolis Colts because
we know they need a defensive tackle to back up a guy like Grover Stewart or DeForest Buckner. I don't think it's going to be that early in the
draft, but I think Braden Fisk has really moved himself up some draft boards here. And while
we're talking senior bowl standouts, Jake, we have to talk about Darius Robinson of Missouri.
I mean, Darius Robinson was one of the biggest winners of the entire senior bowl. Now he came
in here a little bit bigger. He was, he was supposed to be coming in here as like a defensive end type. Um, he kind of tested more
like a defensive tackle, which is fine. Like there's nothing wrong with that whatsoever.
Uh, six, five, two 85, just hyper, hyper long arms as well. Four, nine, five, 40, 35 inch vertical
and a nine Oh three broad. Very, very good numbers. They're fantastic as defensive tackle.
I believe it was, I want to say Danieleremiah or someone put it out there uh that his testing numbers are very similar similar to
deforest buckner's when deforest buckner came out i think darius robinson is a little bit more
explosive and buckner is a little bit longer and taller obviously uh but very very similar numbers
there so look at the colts want to go for like another denico autry type darius robinson seems
like a very juiced up version of that.
And look, you saw it in person down at the Senior Bowl.
Darius Robinson was unblockable down there.
So again, very similar to like a Danico Autry.
If you want to have just a very juiced up defensive line
full of those Danico Autry, like Daiwa Dangbo,
DeForest Buckner type guys, like Adetomi Adebore as well.
You can just have a whole defensive line of guys that look like that.
You could go with a guy like Darius Robinson,
but I do think he goes late round one,
and I don't believe the Colts are going to be in a position to take him,
but man, that's a fun player right there on film.
Yeah, absolutely.
My only question about him was where do teams really want him
because they've been leaning more towards edge um but you know some of these scores they really lend themselves to being more of an interior
player rather than like a dio a dangbo where he's primarily outside kicks inside more of a
like i said primarily inside can go outside um you know that like three four defensive end type
of guy right um but no i i really was impressed with him when I watched his field workout.
You know, the drills they have, all the defensive linemen run and everything, you know, run the hoop and things like that.
I thought he looked pretty good for someone who could play inside and out.
And again, if he can get that huge punch in his hands like a guy like Autry had, which again, he did really well in those one-on-one drills in Mobile.
I'm pretty impressed.
I don't think he did anything to hurt his stock.
I think that probably just answered more questions, really.
Now teams will be like, okay, we're probably a little more comfortable moving him or keeping him inside, kicking outside on certain downs.
So I still think his stock is just fine.
It's probably sitting there right at the bottom of the first round.
Yeah, yeah, no, I completely agree.
Now there were a couple other defensive tackles here, Jake, that I put down.
Now I have something in my throat here, Jake.
Can you list these last two for me?
We'll just go over them pretty quick.
Yeah, Mason Smith, you know, great guy.
You know, no, Cezac is trying to get me to bite on this one.
So this guy does fit
the colts really well and their defensive line is chock full of guys with names that are difficult
to pronounce i usually do pretty well with those this this guy out of clemson he's a disruptor he
is an absolute menace especially against their own it's rook a row row bro scooby-doo yeah. Scooby-Doo. Yeah, Scooby-Doo. That's exactly right. No, this dude's legit.
9.9 brass, 6'4", 294, 489-40 with 32-inch arms and a 908 broad.
The Colts need interior defensive line depth.
We saw that.
That was glaringly obvious last year.
I'm okay with the guy like, oh, row, row, row.
I like it.
Yes.
Yes.
Fantastic film.
Fantastic film.
I know we're joking here about the name and stuff only because,
uh,
Jake has been struggling to say it this whole week,
but a fantastic player.
And look,
I'm really hoping he ends up in Indy because one,
I love the fit and two,
I love the vibes.
I just love the vibes here on the podcast with it.
He fits right into the Colts.
The Colts have an, an all name team on the defensive line and he fits right into that. Yep. And Hey, look,
we're going to transition to the linebackers that tested as well. And look, we're talking
all name teams here. This one is a really fun name to say, Jay, can you please say this one
right here from Washington for me? I dig this one. It's Ediphan Ulafosio from Washington.
I nailed that. You're welcome. Yes. Ediphan Ulafosio, lafoshio from washington i nailed that you're welcome yes edifon ulafoshio
ulafoshio from washington was the big star of the linebacker testing uh six foot two thirty six four
five six forty thirty nine and a half inch vertical with a 1008 broad reach for this guy
yeah fantastic fantastic tester now that's a guy you want to go back and watch the film he was
at the senior bowl didn't hear much hype about him when he was down at the senior bowl but
definitely a guy you want to see there a couple of the top tier guys edge cooper and cedric gray
also tested really well like as well good length uh good 40 times good verticals but uh edifon man
i think that's the guy i'm looking at and look he's only six foot right like that's
that's a lot shorter than typical but i'm pretty sure our boy saguna luby is also a little bit
shorter too right yeah a little bit shorter real athletic guy but you and i actually you know it
was actually to see how to pronounce his name but we cut on a little bit of the tape of him and
you know the colts need that coverage linebacker It looked like he was kind of excelling against screen passes
and, you know, within five to ten yards downfield outside the hashes.
So that could be a nice little guy on day three for them to look up
and maybe add to the mix to help cure those coverage woes
in the middle of the field.
Yep, and we also got Jordan McGee from Temple.
Had a really good day.
Trevin Wallace from Kentucky.
If you guys want to see the full scores for all of these linebackers,
defense tackles, and defensive ends,
you can obviously go to NFL Network's page and look up all their testing numbers.
You can go to Kent Lee Platt on social media with the RAS scores.
That's where we're getting those nine-point whatevers and stuff.
That's where he does his relative athletic score.
Really fantastic stuff there that Kent does at Math Bomb on Twitter.
But a really, really fun day of testing.
Look, we got 14 guys right here in the groups
that we don't even think the Colts necessarily need
in the draft.
We got 14 guys that kind of fit the build of Ballard
or just the Ballard mold of what he typically likes.
So I think that's a pretty good day.
As we're recording this right now,
the cornerbacks are testing and the safeties are testing.
So tomorrow or not tomorrow, next week's episode, we'll talk more about those.
So next Monday.
But really, really fun stuff here from the NFL Combine.
Coming up, though, we're going to talk about our final day of media session.
Yeah, our final day of media session availability.
We talked to a couple burners on the outside at wide receiver.
And look, man, I think both these guys fit the Colts pretty well.
We're going to talk about that here in just a second.
But first, this show is sponsored by BetterHelp.
What's the first thing you do if you had an extra hour in your day?
Go for a run, take a nap, read a book, show up for a friend.
Probably take a nap out of all those ones.
A lot of us spend our lives wishing we had more time.
The question is, time for what? If time
was unlimited, how would you use it? The best way to squeeze that special thing into your schedule
is to know what's important to you and make it a priority. Therapy can help you find what matters
to you so you can do more of it. Again, I've told you guys multiple times on this show, I love my
wife, but I especially love my little dog. That's my favorite little guy right there.
And look, doing things like therapy has helped me find out that, look, this dog is the most important thing in the entire world.
So I just got to spend more time with him.
I got to leave Jake's house and get right back to him.

All right, Jake, we're tithing into our final media scrum of the week.
I know you had a blast with these media scrums.
And honestly, I'm not sure why you're not going tomorrow.
I mean, you just loved every single second of these media scrums.
But look, you got a chance to talk to two wide receivers
or at least get in the scrums with two wide receivers
that the Colts could be interested in, two burners at wide receiver.
And look, before we even go into who these guys are,
I have a good feeling the Colts are looking at some speed
at the wide receiver position.
I don't know why.
I'm just feeling it in this draft class.
But you looked at Xavier Worthy and Brian Thomas Jr.,
and you listened to them.
What did you hear from those two guys?
Yeah, so Xavier Worthy is a real interesting guy because we've seen here in
Colts land receivers that are maybe a little hamstrung and don't always get to show their full,
you know, all their attributes based on what their quarterback play is like. And that's kind
of the same with Xavier Worthy. you and I have been kind of maybe not
throwing comps around but like who do these guys remind you of at all skill set wise
and you know I think you said Deshaun Jackson Tavon Austin type now that's not career projections
because those are two guys who a whole generation of speedy receivers modeled their games after but
when you're talking about types of things that
guys can do, Xavier Worthy can take the top off downfield or he can make you or he can create his
own yardage on these on these short passes. So that's certainly something that the Colts could
use, you know, kind of kind of a souped up Josh Downs. You know what I mean? Like we've seen Josh
Downs can do things all over the field, but he can also create his own yards after the catch.
So certainly that would be a welcome addition,
putting him on the outside of the formation
alongside someone like a Michael Pittman and Josh Downs.
And then Thomas.
Thomas was the harder one for us to come up with a comp.
There's a lot you can do.
He's a taller, leaner receiver.
He's able to win those jump balls but again big play
machine and he led the nation with 17 receiving touchdowns so the guy is familiar with making big
plays and being in the end zone yeah yeah no I think Brian Thomas the close I can come up to is
like either a juiced up Marvin Jones or if you want to go like a slightly toned down AJ Green
or something you know I don't want to go as high as an AJ Green comp or as lowiced up Marvin Jones or if you want to go like a slightly toned down AJ Green or
something you know I don't want to go as high as an AJ Green comp or as low as a Marvin Jones comp
but I think Brian Thomas is a fantastic player he's going to go early in this draft does a lot
of good things down the field and I think he's got the potential to grow underneath as well but
I want to get to Xavier Worthy a little bit more because look you guys know me I haven't talked
enough about Xavier Worthy on this podcast this draft season,
but I personally just love Xavier Worthy so much.
I love what he can bring to the field.
I see a lot of Deshaun Jackson in his game
where it's just that easy, easy speed,
that easy speed down the field,
the easy speed after the catch.
And think about what Shane Syken was doing
with a guy like Kez Watkins
in a very limited role in Philadelphia.
Now imagine that with a guy like Kez Watkins in a very limited role in Philadelphia. Now imagine that with, you know, a much faster, explosive, easier speed guy down the field
and Xavier Worthy.
I think that fit is just very, very comfortable for the Colts.
And I know a lot of you guys are not big fans of Worthy because the concentration drops,
but I think you said he talked about that in his press conference today, right?
Yeah, that's one thing he was talking about.
Someone asked him about the drops, and he said,
really, it's a concentration thing.
I just kind of get ahead of myself and ready to move down the field
or make my next move with the ball in my hands before securing it.
Because you made a good point.
He doesn't have a problem with tracking the ball
and bringing it in downfield,
because that's all you're focusing on is bringing in that ball.
But it's when he's already thinking ahead to what he's going to do after the
catch.
That's,
you know,
that's fixable.
So that's,
that's not a big deal.
It's something he knows he needs to fix.
And I'm sure it's something every team he's met with has talked about.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So either of these guys,
I love them.
I mean,
Brian Thomas,
you probably have to take a 15 worthy.
You might get away with in round two,
but I think personally you'd have to move up from the 47 to get him. Maybe if you move back from 15 into the mid to late 20s, Worthy is a good fit
there, but there's a lot of interesting options with those two guys. But again, from something
that we heard today or maybe didn't hear, and I'm not going to confirm or deny anything, I do think
the Colts want a lot of speed at that wide receiver position. They want more explosion.
And yes, Chris Ballard mentioned that Anthony Richardson naturally creates a lot of explosion just because of who he is.
But you also need the guys who can get down there and make those plays happen.
And I think that, you know, both again, both of these players can really take a top off
the defense and create those explosive plays for you.
Yeah, especially Thomas.
One thing I didn't really get to ask him because everyone wanted to know what team he worked out with and what he thought of the personnel of
every team in the NFL. Right, right. You know, he played with a guy in Jaden Daniels, LSU Heisman
winner that can move around in Korea on his own. That's obviously something Anthony Richardson can
do. A lot of receivers, you know, they just want that pocket passer. That's going to get rid of the ball quick and get it to him. But, you know, some guys kind of relish that
keeping the play alive and maybe your route is finished how it was designed to be run.
But now there's a new challenge that, you know, your quarterback has created five more seconds,
you know, let's get out and try and find an open spot downfield. So a lot of guys really embrace that and excel in that.
And I'm interested to see if Brian Thomas, you know,
I think he's got the skill set to really flourish in a situation like that.
And I'm really interested to see how he could fit in with the Colts.
Because I mean, I haven't been necessarily looking for immediate upgrades
over Alec Pierce, but I think that would, he would immediately come in and compliment
Josh Downs and Michael Pittman very well. Yeah. Yeah, no, I very much agree there. So both those
guys keep an eye on them this draft season. And you can also learn about these guys quite a bit
