The Indianapolis Colts had their first week of OTAs this past week and Anthony Richard
and Daniel Jones got their first look of the summer.
Let's get to it. podcast. Part of the Locked On Podcast Network. Your team, every day.
Thank you all for tuning in and making us your first listen of the day. This is your
daily podcast covering your Indianapolis Colts. Part of the Locked On Podcast Network. Your
team, every day. My name is Zach Hicks, your resident film nerd at HorseshoeHuddle.com.
And my partner Jake Arthur is our credentialed crocs on the ground for the site. And we're
going to be leaning into those Crocs on the grounds
here for today's episode.
Jake was at the Colts first OTA practice of the summer,
which I believe happened yesterday, right, Jake? Wednesday. Wednesday. Wednesday.
So Jake was out there on Wednesday getting all the videos, watching the practice
unfold. It wasn't the longest practice, only like what an hour, hour and a half.
Nothing too crazy. But we got a little bit on the quarterback competition.
We got some updates on some injuries and everything
going on with the Colts.
So we're going to dive into all that here today.
First off, Jake, if you want to lead us off,
you know that there were a couple injuries
and a couple guys missing.
Is there anything too concerning here or this kind
of everything that we've already heard of?
Yeah, no, I there's nothing really new and concerning to discuss here. The guys we already
kind of figured would be out, Zaire Franklin had that ankle cleanup. He was out as well as Jalen
Carlis. He's still not recovered from the shoulder. Some ones that we didn't maybe expect though,
Jonathan Taylor is still training in Florida. And again, this is a voluntary portion of the off season, so he's not
getting fined or anything like that. Josh Downs and Drew Ogletree were both
considered to have soft tissue stuff. So this is kind of a part of the year
where if you're feeling anything, just don't go ahead and do it. Uh, and then
Travarious Ward just did positional stuff. Basically, Shane
Steichen described it as, you know, he's just, he's been spending a lot of time with his
family here ramping up to now, and they're just kind of getting him started slowly. They're
not throwing him in for a full workload or anything. So just positional work for him,
which kind of gave us an opportunity to get an eye on
some other guys lower down on the depth chart, which we'll get to later.
Uh, but obviously what everyone wants to discuss, it was our first opportunity
to get our eyes on Anthony Richardson versus Daniel Jones on the field in
live seven on sevens and 11 on 11s.
And, uh, it went about as I expected on day one.
So you kind of if you guys read my notes over on horseshoe huddle,
you kind of ran the gamut of the Anthony Richardson experience in this one.
You really saw just about everything you would expect to see from him.
He had some scrambles early in practice.
He was you could tell he was being really intentional about his
like footwork and mechanics and everything and things were looking good.
He was ripping the ball down field and there were several chunk plays right off
the bat, you know, Will Mallory, Tyler Warren, things were looking good.
And then, you know, and about the back half of practice, you saw things start to
dwindle a little bit.
We'll discuss here in a moment the way they're divvying up the snaps between him
and Jones.
But basically in the back half of the practice, Jones took over the first team
reps to give both guys an opportunity to get some of those.
And Anthony just kind of started to probably stray from his mechanics a little
bit and get more into like the backyard football ad lib stuff that we see. He did throw an interception to Liam Anderson, just kind of a corner route
near the sideline and Anderson was underneath the route. I think it was to Will Mallory.
Anderson was just underneath on the route and Anthony just didn't get it up enough to
Mallory and Anderson was there to get it. And then I think his next throw, he was rolling out to his left
and threw across his body.
And the ball was just way too short to get to the receiver.
So a couple of ugly things, some really, really big plays.
You know, Tyler Warren was the first play of the day, a big chump play there.
So some really encouraging stuff and some things that he's got to work on.
Yeah, I think the biggest thing for Anthony this summer, really, the few things I'm really looking at are obviously the mechanics when kept clean or honestly the mechanics went under duress.
I know it's hard to simulate under duress in these practices because he's not at risk of getting hit like nobody's going to hit the quarterback.
But, you know, when the pocket does close on him, how does he keep his mechanics? As you mentioned, like early on in practice,
it does seem like his mechanics were looking good. But also a big thing with him and this kind of
goes with what you were saying with the second part of practice is we really saw last year that
when it rains, it pours with Anthony, like it'll be one or two bad snaps and it'll turn into a flurry of just really bad plays for him.
So really how does he bounce back from the occasional miss?
Like if he has a miss and then the next five throws are good,
that's a good sign for him.
As you mentioned in this first practice,
it looks like as the, you know,
the misses start to pile up a little bit
in that second half of practice,
you really want to see him be able to bounce back and recover. And then another thing too, is that rolling to the left.
That was a big issue for him last year was rolling to the left and keeping the mechanics.
He's a very explosive yet stiff passer. So when he's on the move, it is tough for him to keep
those mechanics because he is pretty tight-hipped. So can he keep those mechanics while on the move, unlike he has shown the first two seasons in the NFL? That will be a big
thing for him. But you know, we've always kind of known this with Anthony. He's not,
he's not the type of player that performs super well in practice because you're
taking away one of the biggest elements of his game, which is that pure
physicality of breakthrough sacks and scramble and use the running threat.
You don't really have that in practice.
So it's all arm, it's all mind there.
And that's where he's gonna fall a little bit shorter
of maybe an experienced quarterback like Daniel Jones.
Yeah, I will say though,
he's not historically been a good player in seven on sevens
because he's a guy who has to have that internal clock
hurried up a bit. Like he does his best when the pressure is on.
And we see that just generally like late in games when there's a lot of pressure,
like he it's like he has to have something on the line in order to get going.
But he looked a lot more comfortable.
I think Tyler Warren was a big part of that.
And then a nice receiving option, like well, Mallory being out there
was a big part of that. And then a nice receiving option, like Will Mallory being out there was a big part of that.
But we saw both, again, we saw both Anthony
and Daniel Jones getting first team reps.
And that's gonna be by design.
And I think that's gonna be something we see throughout camp
is both guys getting the opportunity each day.
So how the cult structure there,
it's, you know, they basically do it in weeks.
Like you'll see them go three practices in a row and then be off for a day or two.
So each day has like a theme that the offense is trying to work on short yardage goal line
first and second now third down, like high red zone, low red zone.
Like there's stuff they're trying to accomplish each day.
And so they want to give both guys the opportunity to work on the same thing. And by doing that, you're
also seeing, you know, how they do while they're working on the
exact same things. So if I recall, it's not exactly how they
did it with Gardner. I feel like each guy got like a week in a
row or like a couple days in a row. So they're structuring it a
little bit different now. But I would imagine we're going to see both guys getting first team reps each day.
Yeah, it's not going to be like where a guy gets a whole workload,
you know, for a few days at a time.
Yeah. And Owen's asking us a couple of questions here in the comments.
So he has to go to one here that I wanted to ask you to is I know it's just the one practice,
obviously, Jake, so it's hard to really really say like oh, this is a different Anthony Richardson
But did you notice anything?
Different about him and just in terms of mechanics or again it's so early to say it's only one hour of practice that you really saw
Today or on Wednesday well with Anthony like you could tell you could definitely tell he's working on mechanics like in practice
He has always been a guy where you can tell
Like in practice, he has always been a guy where you can tell he is always trying to be very intentional about his footwork and his mechanics. Like even in between reps, he's like practicing his steps and do like he there's not much wasted momentum for him throughout a practice.
But just to make sure we cover what Daniel Jones did.
So overall, I was surprised by how the ball came out of his hands. I thought he had a lot of zip on some tight window stuff, like a lot of like
interior plays, you know, some slants and some crossers.
He did a lot more like short to intermediate stuff, whereas Anthony is
always going to be more like intermediate to downfield, which is what you would
expect. But I like the way the ball came off Jones hand.
Again, he's just kind of a
game manager. And we didn't really see him out there running like you would with Anthony as much.
Now, if Daniel were to win the competition, we're going to see him run. But a guy like Anthony,
it's an absolute weapon for him. So Jones did have a near interception. Just basically threw it to the outside in tight coverage.
And it wasn't like an egregious start.
It was a bad decision, but it wasn't like an egregious throw.
The corner was right there, had hands on it, probably should have intercepted it.
But yeah, both guys had a couple of things they would like to take back.
But being the first day of OTAs and live drills and everything,
I think it was a pretty good start for both of them overall.
Perfect. There we go. So Jake is saying there's no concerns with this quarterback battle, both
guys off to a great start.
May the best man win. It's a true tongue.
Wow. We're getting the best of both worlds of both these players, but yeah, we'll see
how it plays out throughout the rest of the summer. Obviously this will be an ongoing
story every single day of OTA's, you know, which quarterback's doing what, which how they're We'll see how it plays out throughout the rest of the summer. Obviously, this will be an ongoing story
Every single day of OTAs, you know, which quarterbacks doing what which how they're performing and ultimately leading up to the main decision by Shane Steichen to pick the starter by the end of training camp
So we'll certainly keep you guys in tune with that throughout all of camp
But coming up we have some players to talk about that also performed well, including a bunch of tight ends, apparently.
Like who would have thought the Colts
could have tight ends actually performing?
We're gonna talk about that here in just a second.
The NBA playoffs are in full swing.
We are in conference championship mode
and every night delivers highlight worthy performance,
major momentum shifts and can't miss moments
Whether it's a game-winning shot or breakout player
There's never been a better time to get in on the action and fendal
You know, they make it easy to stay in the game whether it's before tip off live
Whatever with player props performance trends and same game parlays fans have more ways than ever to play smart and win big
Guys, this is it.
Pacers get rid of these guys, just close it out, move on,
get a little rest and get ready for the thunder Saturday night,
8 p.m. Back at game bridge.
The Pacers are three and a half point favorites.
I don't believe they've lost back to back games in the playoffs.
I might be wrong, but I don't think they have.
They've only lost four back games in the playoffs. I might be wrong, but I don't think they have. They've only lost four games total in the playoffs.
Right. So as I said, I don't think they've won any.
It lost me back to back.
So off the heels of a loss, the trends say they got this thing.
I like that three and a half total point over under a two hundred
and nineteen, according to Fandl.
So get it done.
We got Pacers fans going crazy.
We have a war between Pat McAfee and John Cougar Mellon Camp.
Who could have ever thought that would happen?
Close it out, get it done, boys.

All right, Zach if you build it they will come and what they built was a tight end room the Colts really they just did
It kind of by adding one major key component to it
But yeah, the the tight end involvement was very very evident throughout the day
Whether it was seven on sevens, 11 on 11s, what have you.
Like I mentioned, Tyler Warren, Anthony Richardson to Tyler Warren was the first
play of the day. His big chunk play over the middle. Uh,
it was a big yak opportunity for Warren, which I think that's going to be,
that's going to be something they try and feature heavily in the offense. Uh,
and just whoever the quarterback is,
get the ball in front of him with enough room to run and let him do the rest.
Will Mallory as well.
So Drew Ogletree was out again with the soft tissue thing, uh, which, you know,
gave more of an opportunity to Will Mallory.
Blessing you have a guy like Tyler Warren who can block and catch.
You don't have to have such specialized roles and it can kind of open things up
a little bit for a guy like Will Mallory to have more of an opportunity.
But Mallory was a guy who I just thought like obviously you're giving something up when
you want a guy out there who can block.
But among their tight ends, I mean not including Tyler Warren, he just moves different.
Like he moves so much faster and more fluid than the other guys. And Warren and Mallory made several big impressive plays on the day.
Like John plays,
Matt Anthony hit Mallory on one along the sidelines.
That was kind of a long developing cross route that ended on the on the sideline.
And it was he got both feet in good yardage on the play.
And it was just like man this tight
in room has talent it's just i what what has happened to it over the years like because it's
a lot of the same guys the talent is there but like i don't know how it's not working i think
you're having to rely too much on guys blocking maybe but there's talent there i mean tyler warren
obviously that's that guy's going to be playing constantly. But like there are some other guys out there that can do some things.
Yeah. Will Mallory in and I'm trying to use the right comparison here,
especially because you guys in Indiana only have like your two sports,
basically football, basketball.
So if you watch any other sport from from baseball to hockey,
the ones that have like legit minor league systems,
Will Mallory to me is the type of guy where he's so like he's like stuck in between the two leagues right now,
where it's like he's too good to be like a minor league type player or like a practice squad player, I guess in the NFL.
But he just hasn't done enough to earn a role yet in the NFL.
So something's going to break eventually with him either it's gonna be with another team or another roster eventually or
He's able to finally break through and become a guy who can be a roster like an everyday type of player that can play on
Sundays the talents always been there for him and
You know if the Colts want to be more versatile with the passing game at tight end
Yeah, I got like Mallory it always made sense to get him more involved in the passing game.
But yeah, the blocking certainly needs to come around and then you get the mile. The the big ol wild card of Jelani Woods.
We just never know what we're actually getting with Woods and how you were there. That's the most important thing is he was there.
Right, right. So Jelani Woods is there. He's making plays and how long does it last? And then how does he factor into this because I think if you're looking at him last summer it looked like his best blocking summer of his life probably like even going back to his college days.
The athleticism was obviously still there and it looked like he could have been a pretty good player and then he and then the injury derailed everything yet again so.
So yeah, with Mallory, Jelani Woods, I mean, Ogletree will factor in in some regard. And then they brought back Moelle Cox to be just that stable veteran.
I mean, at tight end, they're going to have tough decisions to make like they had last year.
But at least this year, they have Tyler Warren at the top of that to where it's like what you're picking between two and five.
I'm fine with you picking these guys between two and five on the depth chart because because we have number one And that's Tyler Warren, you know Tyler Warren
By all accounts from everything you said obviously in that first practice look like the guy they drafted him to be
It's only first day of OTA. So there's obviously so much more to go
But this is why they drafted him as high as they did like they're expecting big things and and I fully expect big things as well
No, I mean it could be the signs of a guy that kind of transforms the passing
offense because the Colts passing offense got off to a strong start in a
practice in their first live practice of the summer, which doesn't really happen.
And Anthony Richardson looked awesome even in seven on sevens,
which doesn't normally happen.
He's got that guy now that can help him.
Yeah, now I don't want to have other guys but like he's taking opportunity to use that guy basically.
Now to play devil's advocate though, and I know this is gonna get you very passionate about it.
Okay. I know I'm hyping you up here.
How much of the tight end success though in this first OTAs came down to no Zaire Franklin,
no Jalen Carlis, and no other starting caliber linebacker being on the field.
That's, you know, that's a good point. I won't tolerate Shagu Luby Slender. Right. No, you
won't either. Liam Anderson was great. Liam Anderson. That's your boy right there. No,
that's that's a guy who's way better in coverage than he is against the road for sure. Right.
But no, I do think I want to get to the offensive line real quick,
but I do think if Jelani Woods can stay healthy,
he is such a forgotten X factor. Like, right. Because you,
you love the talent he has as a pass catcher and a total mismatch.
That's still there. Um, but if he can improve as a blocker,
do you go into the summer and the final stages of
your roster cut downs and say, do we just decide between Drew Ogletree and Mo Ali Cox?
Because you know, obviously Tyler Warren's going to make it.
Will Mallory could be a guy they still want to keep around.
Jelani Woods that he has such high potential.
Do you really need both Mo Ali Cox and Drew Wobel tree or do you just
pick between the two?
Every time we say this, they pick both.
So I don't even know.
Yeah, yeah, I will say but it becomes interesting.
And then the offensive line, no really big surprises here.
The first team offensive line was Bernhardt Ryman, Quentin Nelson, Tanner Bordellini,
Matt Gonzalez and Braden Smith.
Really good to see Braden Smith out there because obviously he had
the personal issues last year with the OCD and everything.
But he wasn't around last off season because of a knee that's plagued him for
a couple years.
So he didn't really get this opportunity to be out there with his team last summer
this time because that knee caused him so many issues.
So he's already on the field.
He's already doing his thing. So that's good to have him out there.
Uh, look at the second team line, which there's some guys among the third group
who maybe could crack this area at some point, but this to me is exactly the
group I would have thought it to be.
Uh, Blake Freeland at left tackle, Josh sales at left guard, Danny Pinter at
center, Dalton Tucker, right guard, and Jalen Travis at right tackle, Josh Sills at left guard, Danny Pinter at center, Dalton Tucker at right guard,
and Jalen Travis at right tackle. So some some depth issues, maybe a little bit. You might want
to see an extra player in there or so. But that's about the second team line I would have expected
to see. I will say having it listed out in front of me like that of that that five as the that's
going to be a that's going to be a preseason line dog.
That's going to be out there in the second quarter.
It makes me so much more nervous.
Like Dalton Tucker is my is probably the third best backup offensive lineman
on this team when you look at it like that.
And to me, you want to have like nine guys you can really trust
or not really trust because that's asking too much, but like nine guys
that you feel adequate about at least and
If I'm being generous they have eight because I'm still optimistic on Tucker
But realistically they probably have seven guys that they trust
Like do you think they need to get somebody else because we've talked about it
And I mean they've got some good players out there and the chances they need a bunch of these backups at once is unlikely. But seeing it live and seeing it listed like
this, it does make you say, because this group is going to line up next to each other in
the preseason if they're all still around. And you're going to see if it works or not.
I mean, a lot a lot's riding on Blake Freeland getting better. Jalen Travis kind of looking the part of expectations.
Dalton Tucker should, I would hope,
mall guys as a second team offensive lineman
and the experience he has.
Danny Pinter's been there, done that.
Pinter and Tucker next to each other.
I don't worry about that at all
against second team defenses.
But those are the ones, I mean,
there's some proving to do.
Yeah, for sure.
I would like another name there,
but hey, you know what this
the summer of Marshall Foner, whatever.
However you say his last name,
he was he was like the fourth left half.
I'm going to be perfect.
It's perfect.
Perfect player for me to be excited about.
It's your wagon to Marshall Foner.
But coming up, guys,
we're going to do what we always do.
We're going to get excited about bottom of the roster, guys.
Talk about some guys that have been missing in recent years
and everything about this first day of OTAs.
All right, Jake, we are back talking about the first day of OTAs,
and you mentioned Jelani Woods, who were some other guys
that were maybe missing some time last year that you got to see again in OTAs for maybe the first time in a year, maybe the first time in two years.
Like it's been a while for some of these injured players.
Yeah. So Woods being one of those guys that's been out for a couple of years, he gives you the, oh, wow, I remember that kind of thing.
He made a tough catch in traffic over the middle, had a play where he stretched the field and dropped the target deep along the sideline. But you know, he was a nice little reminder, Juju Brents, who played in two games
last year, I think, and then missed like half of his rookie season. So he's someone we obviously
talk about enough. He's not totally forgotten. But for him to be out there healthy now, obviously a good sign.
And then, you know, with Travarious Ward out, he was back in a starting role alongside Jalen
Jones and Kenny Moore.
We've seen those three together quite a bit when when Brents is out there.
So I mean, the talent's still there.
It's just he's got to stay healthy.
And you forget just how crazy long he is.
Like, yeah, Juju Brentince is like a daddy long leg.
Like he has just crazy length.
So we gotta hope that that guy can stay healthy
because if he can put it together, stay healthy,
show most of a full year,
like you could have a pretty good player there.
But the news that you came here to talk to me about
Is the fact that Daniel Scott was there on the heels of two Miss seasons with an Achilles in an ACL?
wearing number 32
so
Aura is off the charts with the new number. He's back. He's got flowing locks. He's handsome
He's got everything in his corner right now. So
He's got everything in his corner right now. So Daniel Scott, I mean, I really wasn't paying enough attention to whether he was playing
free or strong.
But you know, they really like him if he goes out there and hasn't lost all that juice from
the back to back injuries.
They need safety depth.
I mean, if he has a good summer, I think he's got
a pretty good chance of making it as a special teams guy and hopefully not. But like if someone
gets injured, he gets in there and has to play that.
Yeah, their free safety competition behind Cameron Bynum right now is Rodney Thomas,
Daniel Scott and Trey Washington. So that's really anybody's game right there. I mean, as long as Daniel Scott can stay on the practice field from what Chris Baller talks about with him every single time that he speaks like
The talents there obviously so let's get a whole summer of work in and go from there
But yeah, I do like the number 32 getting him in that, you know, the new Edger and James like that's that's what we're going here
So yeah, I'll get it. We love it. Not even just Julian Blackman.
We're just going right to it.
Oh yeah, I completely forgot about Julian Blackman.
And then I'm already moved on in my head.
But talk about Juju Brentz though, Jake.
You know, it's crazy.
Did you see that stat I put on social media the other day
about Juju and Jalen Jones?
No, I don't pay attention to what you post.
Well, that's fair.
That's what you gotta put.
I have notifications on for you, but
I didn't I didn't see it though. I try and
That is X. Well, we'll fly past that but
So those two were drafted in the same draft class, right? So two years ago in the same exact draft class Brent's obviously a second round pick Jaylen Jones
Obviously a seventh round pick in their time since entering college.
I believe and I don't have the numbers exactly in front of you guys can go check it out on
my ex profile there.
Jones has nearly double the defensive snaps played across college and the NFL.
You wrote that though, didn't you?
Despite I read that.
Yeah, something.
Yeah, it was the one my articles do.
But despite Jones being two and a half years younger, two and a half years younger than Juju Brents and has almost double the defense
of snaps played across their college and NFL careers and experience matters, man.
Like Jaylen Jones is a young like he just turned 23
and he's had two full years of almost two full years of NFL experience under his belt.
And we're seeing him grow as a result.
He's gone from, you know, in his first year,
he gave up six touchdowns in coverage.
Last year he gave up one.
Like he's grown so much.
A lot of pass breakups last year,
a couple of interceptions with Brents.
Like he's just not getting the time on the field to grow.
And again, it's one thing if he were Jones' age,
if he were a young 23, he would be like, you know what?
There's still time.
He's 25.
He's going to be turning 26 during the season.
Like it is time to go for Juju Brands.
So I think when we're talking about play, I mean, we said this so many times on the
show already.
I know I'm just reiterating, but like when it comes to players that just need to have
a strong off season and be on the field at all times, Juju Brands is up there with Jelani
Woods and, and, and Brayden Smith, obviously,
is like the time is now.
Get on the field, you know, and we need to see what he can do.
I like that they're still giving him chances as a starter
because the talent really is there, but he's got to earn it, man,
because Samuel Womack, I thought, was perfectly fine last year.
They got Justin Wally.
Where was Wally playing, by the way?
Was he after backup?
OK, back up nickel.
OK, interesting.
So the second team corners.
So you had why can't I think of his name?
Valentine, Wally and then long out there.
I think we're the top three back of corners.
And award being out kind of shifts things a little bit.
Boosts Brent's up. So right.
And while he was back at Nickel.
Interesting. OK, I'm curious to see what they're going to do with Wally this year.
If it's going to be a lot of backup nickel, if you get some safety snaps
and outside corner snaps, like I'm curious to see what they're going to do.
And that's going to be one player that I'm going to keep messaging you about all off season to to to really watch and practice.
If you have my notifications on for message, I don't know if that's if that's a thing.
Jake, do you have you? I get notified. OK, that's good.
But I think we'll see him and dime a lot. OK.
Yeah, so I mean, well, it's not technically nickel, it'll be it'll be an
inside slot still. Yeah. And then one guy who like, I you don't it doesn't really matter what
running backs do in practice, because they're not being tackled or anything. Right. But I mentioned
that Mallory was kind of moving at a different pace than other guys. DJ Giddens looked really
good as well. And for what I could tell with Jonathan Taylor. DJ Giddens looked really good as well.
And for what I could tell with Jonathan Taylor out,
Giddens was kind of like the top guy out there,
even above Herbert.
There was a couple of times where I was like,
where the hell is Herbert?
So it was really Giddens was getting a lot of work.
Goodson and Salvan Ahmed as well.
They were all out there, even Ulysses Bentley,
with the exception of JT.
But Giddens was getting a lot of run,
and he, again, moves very smooth, very fast.
So he definitely looks the part.
Two guys who, I mean, Mallory made some plays on the ball,
but there are guys who catch your eye
without even necessarily touching the ball.
And Giddens and Mallory were two guys like that for me,
whether it was just like in positional drills or whatever.
I really like what I saw from getting so far.
Yeah, I wonder, is it hard to I guess it's kind of hard to like
put them together because it's such a it's been such a amount of years
between these two players.
But like when I watched film, it's very Marlon Mack watching DJ Giddens move. And I wonder for you as someone who saw Mac in person, now you're seeing
Giddens in person, like how do the similarities kind of look between like those two, for instance,
as a comp? I think it's legit because you don't see a lot of guys who can run up the middle
with a blend of like patience and vision and like devastating agility
Right like in between the tackles like you see those guys can do it that kind of agility
You usually see like out on the perimeter or like guys who can follow blocks
Neither of them are like burners. They're not gonna win a foot race 80 yards, but they have the unique skill to create their own yards in
between the tackles. And Giddens is just like that. We'll see how it is like when the bullets
are flying, it's live and he actually can be tackled. But just film for film and like
watching Mac in person, it is pretty similar. Like Mac had crazy agility and like ankle breaking ability in the box and like on the
second level and everything not even on the outside. And I think part of that was like
he played it that insane USF system in college that like helped space things out so much
and kind of he could compress it all in the NFL. But yeah, I think that comparison is legit.
Like it's not one I would have just like come up with randomly before the draft,
but seeing both guys, I think that's pretty fair.
Yeah, it's just that ability to keep full speed throughout your cuts.
I think is so vital.
Like again, they're full speed.
Both those players are full speed is not a hundred miles per hour,
but the ability to just keep that top end speed
through your cuts, and then you get the devastating
jump cuts in there as well.
That was always the most, like the biggest thing
that stood out about Marlon Mack and his time
with the Colts was just the jump cuts were so just unique
and like just beautiful.
Like as someone who grew up watching Matt Forte
and Arien Foster, when you're watching like Marlon Mack
and now DJ Giddens, like just those jump cuts
and the ability to keep that speed throughout the cuts, like just like with with forte and foster and mac like you don't have to be.
A43 type guy to you know when in the NFL is a running back you can be and i'm not saying getting this is slow or anything like that but you can be like not as.
like not as like you don't have to be Jonathan Taylor in the open field to still be a really good running back because of that ability to maintain your
speed throughout your cuts so I'm excited for GJ Ginnens especially when
the Bullets are really flying this all season because his film is fun and I
think he's gonna be a really good backup running back to Jonathan Taylor and and
you know what who knows with Jonathan Taylor out in Florida and you know
whenever you know whenever he gets back we'll see if it's a contract thing, Jake.
That'd be hilarious if it's another contract thing there.
Let's really push that.
Not again, please.
No, he's down there still training in Florida
with these being voluntary, but yeah,
we'll see until JT gets back,
we'll have a DJ Giddens getting those top snaps
and getting some run with the first team.
But I think that's all we have for today, guys.
Like look, on this show, we might be the only show that can still do 32 minutes
