My name is Zach Hicks, your resident film nerd of HorseshoeHuddle.com.
My partner, Jake Arthur, is our credential Phil nerd of horseshoehuddle.com. My partner,
Jake Arthur, is our credentialed boots on the ground for the site. He's been out there for the
Colts mandatory mini camp this week, writing down all his notes, getting all the observations that
you guys are looking for. So today we're going to recap this mandatory mini camp. It's our last bit
of practice to talk about until August or sorry, late July and mostly August. So we're talking about the defense, the offense. But first and foremost,
we have to talk about quarterback. That's what you guys are craving. That's what you
guys want. So we got to talk about quarterback and really only one quarterback to talk about
because the other one has missed a majority of these practices. So Daniel Jones, Jake,
what have been your overall thoughts
on Jones throughout these mini camp practices? Do you think, you know, I don't want to compare
him to Anthony, I guess, because it's it's still a kind of a weird comparison. I know
that that's who he's competing with, but Anthony just hasn't been out there. So I guess like
from what you saw the last couple years out of like Gardner in these practices or Joe
Flacco in these practices, like how is he looking on that scale of player of player like do you look like an upgrade over like those two guys at least.
I think so far I've been pleasantly surprised now I want to say this with the caveat of.
This is not a real game simulation obviously like we've seen them in 11 on 11 which is great but like.
Obviously, like we've seen them in 11 on 11, which is great, but like.
They can't be touched, so they know that there's not as much duress there. Like the Colts linebackers have been out, like there's been some injuries
that have affected some things.
So like I've seen a lot of people come up and reply to those of us
reporting on the success the offense has had and been like, well,
this is terrible for the defense.
Not just not so fast.
But as far as Jones in particular, I think some of the really good things that
I've liked about him, I'll lump OTAs into this as well because he took the vast
majority of those reps that we saw from the media perspective.
I think he's got a good grasp of the offense already.
You've got to normally worry about a quarterback coming in and
having to learn the offense.
One thing about him for all of his physical flaws and
like flaws as a player, he is a smart guy.
So he could pick up the offense pretty quick.
Shane Steichen mentioned that today that he's really pleased with where Jones is
at as far as where to deliver the ball and everything.
He gets it out quick.
He's obviously kind of a dink and dunk guy, like at his best it seems.
He will test things downfield occasionally, but
he's very much a we'll take what the defense gives you kind of guy.
He is, for my money, kind of cut from that Gardner men's shoe cloth, but
bigger and more athletic and a little more juice there.
So you kind of see that comes out a little bit.
He was productive in the red zone.
We mentioned on Tuesday's practice
was primarily red zone work and six touchdowns.
So he was very productive there.
He spread the ball around throughout 11 on 11s.
He had 13 completions and that went to seven different receivers. The guys who caught multiple passes were Pitman Downs, Warren and Taylor. And that's camp and he led the offense to touchdowns in both of those.
He is careful and that I don't think he's gonna fumble the ball occasionally,
but I don't think he's gonna throw a lot of really dumb interceptions.
He does take care of the ball as a passer from that perspective.
And then one thing I think is great,
and hopefully if he plays in the regular season,
we see it, is the willingness to go downfield
because that, as soon as the Colts signed him,
and you knew he was competing to be the starter,
you thought, well, if he's gonna start,
there goes Alec Pierce's value right out the door.
He has targeted Pierce downfield multiple times
throughout the spring.
So we'll see how it goes.
Those are the things that I really liked about him.
The downsides that you see with him, there is obviously limited arm strength.
When he does go downfield, he's not always giving those receivers who are running vertical room to get under it.
They're often having to slow down a little bit.
So luckily for the Colts, they have some contested catch guys that can get
vertical a little bit. Uh, so it may not be the biggest issue in the world, but
the limited arm strength does show up. I think he may be too careful at times,
uh, because I mentioned he's gonna take care of the ball as a passer, but that
also makes him a little risk averse. We saw that in the red zone for all the touchdowns he scored the other day.
He also was very willing to just throw the ball out of the back of the end zone
in a practice situation as well.
So that was not really testing guys very much.
And then the other con, limited aura.
He's got the classic pocket passer look, you know,
there's, you're not getting a whole lot of the swag like you get with Anthony Richardson.
So I'm gonna have to put limited aura on the cons column as well.
Yes, we need a couple 30 year old men on a podcast talking about aura Jake is what we
really need on this show. But yeah, that's really my fear with Daniel Jones really is
what you mentioned about just the the willingness to attack down the field. His yards per attempt and then
his air yards per attempt have always been extremely low in the NFL compared to Richardson
where Richardson's has been abnormally high. Like we're talking 12 yards down the field
is air yards per attempt. Obviously you want the middle ground you want to be in like that
that seven eight eight, nine.
I mean, seven's a little low, but eight, nine range or whatever.
Jones typically sits in like that four to six range, which is really, really low.
And I think a fear I have with that is just the fact that the Colts have not
created well after the catch under Shane Steichen.
Even when you go back to Gardner Minchu's time as a starter,
where Minchu was more of an underneath guy,
they didn't really create a ton of yards after the catch and that was with, you know, an uptick in screens,
RPOs, like getting the ball in guys hands quick. They still don't really create much after the catch.
So what does this type of offense look with Daniel Jones?
I'm intrigued by him throwing the ball down the field a little bit more because
what we saw with Joe Flacco in the times he were out there, like it doesn't really matter
with Alec Pierce if you're throwing the ball in front of him. Like just throw the ball up to him.
We even saw with Matt Ryan, like when Matt Ryan was here, Matt Ryan was a shell of himself. He
was not the Matt Ryan that we all know and love from his Atlanta days. But he still tried to throw
the ball to Alec Pierce down the field and Pierce made some plays. So I'm a little worried about
Daniel Jones with the deep ball and just with his tendency to
take the underneath thing a little too quickly.
But it does seem like at least the Colts can maybe keep this offense on schedule a little bit more
than what they did with Richardson, where the Colts got a lot of three and outs and a lot of,
you know, three straight incompletions and then putting the ball back to the other team last year.
Yeah, that's and that's part of the biggest thing for me is you're going to lose some excitement and
you're going to lose some of that big playability if it is Jones out there. But I think you're going
to be able to maintain maintain time of possession a little bit more too, because think of how much
that offense was feast or famine. It was like big, huge touchdown or like a touchdown drive
that was aided by like a 40 yard play or something.
And then a three and out, four play drives, five play drives.
I think you're going to at least be able to sustain drives
a little longer, which can get you into field goal range.
You've got these two new kickers now
who you like being able to kick from 50 plus as opposed to Matt Gay.
So, you know, production of the offense, I think it would be a little more productive from a point standpoint, not, you know, just marginally better.
But I think if it's Daniel, we're going to have to get we're going to have to get used to a little more boring brand of offense because it's also going to be more run oriented as well now it was with Anthony
but obviously the big play through the air was always a threat yeah but you're
probably gonna get a little more rhythmic often some more sustainable
offense it's just not gonna be as exciting and but it might lead to more
wins because a coach can game plan for that better
Yeah, my again my only two push backs my fears and we can't really understand this with OTAs and mini camps because we need
The full reps the live reps
That's what the preseason is gonna be this could all go to Helen training camp and he looks or not training camp
But the preseason he looks terrible when there's a defensive across
Yeah, but my only two fears with that is one Daniel Jones has never been a quarterback that really controlled like
takes care of the football. His fumble rate is like worse than Richardson. Richardson's is really bad too. But Jones is pretty bad. And
then his interception rate, it's not been bad, but it's not been very good. And then when you combine that with the fumble rate, and my
fear when you have a quarterback like Jones, where he's take so many short passes is he's gonna be on the field
More and on the field more is more opportunities where you know if you need 15 plays to score touchdown
Can he keep control of the ball for 15 plays with Richardson?
We knew he couldn't keep control the ball for 15 plays, but some of his drives would be three play touchdowns
So there's less of a chance of the turnover now and then when it comes to the running game
You know Richardson is such a big part of the running game, you know, Richardson is such a big
part of the running game.
I know Jones is a good athlete.
I know that he can run a little bit.
Come on.
It's not the same.
That's whoever.
So I think we'll get a lot of answers to that when we get to, um, you know, the
preseason, the regular season, probably cause I think Jones is going to be the
starter for this team.
We will see.
I do think the Colts can be a more efficient on offense.
I hope he can control the I hope Dale Jones can control the ball a little bit
more this year and hopefully a higher success rate and just more
methodical offense could be a good thing for the Colts.
At least keep their defense off the field a little bit more
to get a little bit of break.
But coming up, guys, we're going to be a little bit broader in our topics.
We're going to talk about the offense as a whole and how a young rookie in there is definitely looking the part
Despite all the hype this offseason. He is really living up to it
Zack you need to say goodbye to sticky notes scribbled plans on the fridge and overlapping calendar invites
And that's because the skylight calendar is here to bring clarity to the chaos and
help families stay organized without all the stress.
This sleek digital display syncs with your existing calendars, Google, Apple, Outlook
and more, making it simple to track appointments, practices, dinners and reminders all in one
easy to see place.
You know, Skylight calendar is a lifesaver for my household personally. My wife and I
don't get to, you know, kind of download information to each other in person as much as we like.
So being able to have both of us have access to a calendar like that definitely helps to
see what is going on in our house with us individually with our daughter. Everything
is a total lifesaver. And right now, Skylight is offering our listeners
30 bucks off on their 15 inch calendars
by going to your skylightcal.com slash NFL.
Again, go to skylightcal.com slash NFL
for $30 off of your 15 inch calendar.
That is S-K-Y-L-I-G-H-T-C-A-L.com slash NFL.
All right, Zach, it is the annual time for a pass catcher or multiple pass catchers in the Colts offense to really get us ignited, but hopefully not let us down when the regular
season comes.
So I'll start with this one guy first because it's it's almost a little more of a footnote
80 Mitchell, you know had a lot of coming out of last spring because he had all the highlight plays that
The cult social media was put now. He was putting guys on posters. He's making a lot of big plays
It's kind of been the same thing this spring and like the media has been there to see a lot more of it this time
Around than we were last year. So I will say for Mitchell, it's been a lot more of the routine stuff that he is doing better
rather than just these big highlight plays. He's made a couple of those, but it's really just been the nitty-gritty
of catching a five to ten yard ball from Riley Leonard and seven on sevens or eleven on elevens
getting out of bounds things like that. I do wonder if things for him are is it if it's like
a mental difference between this setting where he knows it's not going to be as physical versus
like a game where he's facing the Texans and Jalen Petrie is trying to remove his head from
his body or something you know what I mean? Right So I wonder if now that might just be, that could be something where some guys in
the Elf help plagues in their whole time.
It could just be more catches on the field, like more playing time, more catches.
His, his mind and body finally settles in and it's like, you know what?
I think this is going to be all right.
I can be comfortable.
Um, so, so far, 80 Mitchell off to a really good start to the spring. We'll see if that carries
over to training camp. Yeah, I was on the Jonathan Smith show the other day, the radio show I go on
every now and then out there in India, if you guys have ever heard it. And he asked me about AD Mitchell.
And it's so hard to be out on him completely. You know know Maybe I do think to a degree is kind of like the Anthony Richardson debacle where it's like or not debacle
I guess like situation I guess with Richardson where it's like it's a young player who's mastered the hardest aspect of playing the position
So it's so hard to quit that because it's like can you just get the easier aspects down?
like that's all we're asking like just
Play physical play stronger at the point of attack and
catch the easy ones when you do all the work to create an opening for yourself.
So I'm still fully there with AD Mitchell. I still think he can be a really good player in the NFL
and luckily he's in a situation where he doesn't have to start right away. He doesn't have to go
out there and be this dominant number one wide receiver or else for the Colts.
So I do think, you know, as long as Pierce, Pittman and Downs are relatively healthy this
year, the Colts can methodically get him out there 30 ish percent of the snaps, work him
in and his situations, get him those three by one isolation routes and let him do his
thing and hopefully he can build confidence and structure from that.
But I'm still in on AD Mitchell.
Nothing he's going to do here in the spring can do anything because we saw this last year,
like you mentioned there, Jake, but I still think this can be a very good player in the
NFL.
It's far too early to be out on him.
I know he's probably the second most divisive player on the roster to Colts fans, but he's
so young. He's one of the youngest players
on the team. I think he's younger than Tyler Warren. Like let's give him some time. I think he can
figure this thing out. Yeah. I think if drops for his problem, I honestly would feel a little more
comfortable because it wasn't a big problem at Texas. And we've seen really, really good receivers,
how drops as rookies before. I just hope whatever is not translating to the actual game field.
I just hope that's something that he settles into and it works itself out.
One guy had zero worries about what's it.
Whatever certified dude, Tyler Warren, every setting we had seen him in so far
since the Colts drafted him.
He has been awesome.
He dominated rookie mini camp and then he got into OTAs.
Uh, we saw him with Anthony Richardson and, um, and Daniel Jones and Riley Leonard,
all three quarterbacks found him early and often.
I think Anthony found him for like two chunk plays right off the bat during OTAs.
Like he is opening up the middle of the field, which is
something they were dying to get very much so. Josh Downs does his thing from the slot, but they
really wanted a tight end who could affect the middle of the field play after play. And I think
they've got that guy because he's had a lot of big chunk plays over the middle with room to run.
He's been able to go up the seam and make big plays.
He just like we've all seen talented rookies either, you know, on the
game field on the practice field, whatever.
And you know, when the ball is in the air going to them, you almost
have it in your head where it's like, you know, if this they're a rookie,
like it's not a big deal.
I don't feel like that with him already.
I'm like, okay, this is this a big time playmaker.
The ball is going to he's going to be fine.
And a great example of it was today, the quarterback through the ball.
I think it was probably Daniel or Daniel or Riley through the ball
down kind of outside the right hashes.
And the ball got to Warren and two defenders kind of crossed his eyeline
right as the ball was getting there enough to where like that should that should break
your concentration and it would be a drop for most guys or at least a bobble went right
into it right over his shoulder into his hand seamlessly he keeps on going.
I was like this dude's just on a different level like Like he's legit. There is no concerns with him.
Like he's ready to go.
Yeah. And, you know, going back to my point I made about Daniel Jones
at the top of the show is, you know, if you're going to have this quarterback
who's going to get the ball out very quick, you're relying on guys
to create after the catch.
And yes, I know I've been hating on Daniel Jones, like our commenter
Super Pony is saying here, I'm 100% a hater.
But when you have a player like Tyler Warren, who is a fantastic after the catch guy.
And again, we're not really seeing that in mini camp right now.
We'll see that more in the preseason and more in the regular season.
But that makes stomaching a Daniel Jones quarterback season a lot easier
because that ball will be out quick.
You can get it to a Tyler Warren who is just a bulldozer after the catch.
So while you're seeing all these great things
from Tyler Warren right now, Jake,
we haven't even seen his best trait yet,
which is his ability after the catch,
his physicality after the catch,
and to basically be like, you know,
like his number is like a John Riggins after the catch,
you know, just running over dudes and making plays.
So yeah, I'm very excited for Tyler Warren.
Yeah, no, he's, I think he's to be such a breath of fresh air this offense.
Let's get some quick hits before we end this segment.
So the starting five offensive line, not quite settled yet.
Like I still think Tanner Borderline is the odds on favor to be the center.
He has rotated each day.
It's been him at center and then the next day it's Danny Penner and the next day
it's Tanner Borderline and they just rotate first and second team reps.
Tony Sparano Jr.
Did say that Matt Gonzalez was going to kind of have a competition also, but
from what I've seen, Gonzalez has not conceded a single snap from right guard.
So it's all this has gotten like all the work at right guard.
I don't really think that's much of a question.
So I'm pretty confident Bordellini is going to be the guy at center,, I don't really think that's much of a question. So I'm pretty confident
Bordellini is gonna be the guy at center,
but it's not settled just quite yet.
They do like Danny Pinner and wanna do right by him
and give him a chance.
So I talked to running backs coach Deandre Smith today.
He said Jonathan Taylor is really trying to work into
and take some pride in his past protection.
Asked about DJ Giddens wrist as well, because that obviously hampered.
He had like a serious wrist issue early last year with Kansas State,
and it kind of limited the tape he could put out on Passpro and everything.
Smith said, I the the mental hurdle of that, I think is now clear.
That's completely in the past for him.
And Smith, as his position coach, watching him, wouldn't have even realized he had the issue last year.
So as far as pass pro goes, he said he hasn't dropped a ball yet either.
So DJ Giddens doing really well also.
And then Riley Leonard, all I'll say is let's end the calls for Leonard to be QB1 for now guys.
I've seen enough to be confident that he is a developmental player
for now. So we'll see if that changes in training camp. But I think we could tamper Riley Leonard
expectations for the moment.
Look, Jake is always being so generous to the players and being so nice and what he
says there, mincing his words. Yep, we love it, Jake. But coming up, guys, we're going
to talk about the Colts defense. And while, yes, you guys have some concerns, obviously
off minicamp,
it's not the end of the world.
They gave some catches in minicamp.
There are some things still to write home about, and some players
stepped up that maybe we didn't really expect.
All right, guys, the NBA championship is in full swing,
and every game has delivered delivered highlight worthy performances,
major momentum shifts and can't miss moments. You guys had game bridge rock and you
know exactly what I am talking about. So Fandel is making it easier for
everybody to stay in the game before tip off live with player props,
performance trends and same game parlays. Fans have got more ways than
ever to play smart and win big. All right, so your Indiana Pacers are now
up 2 to one.
Again, you guys had a big part of that.
Gamebridge from, I wasn't there,
but I've talked to a bunch of people in media
and as fans who were there,
they said they've never heard it as loud as it was.
So great job there.
So they're up two one against Oklahoma City.
Next game, game four is back at Gamebridge on Friday, 830.
And guess what?
Because the Pacers get no respect.
They are still six point dogs.
Do with that what you will, but go to Fandool and let them
know what you think about it with your cash.
Just for some advice guys, the Pacers have not lost back to
back games since like February and they have to they the
Thunder have to beat them three times in the next four games
if they want to overcome them in this series.
So let's let's go Pacers, baby. Let's go Pacers. Yeah, you got to spend some money to win some money.
So bet on your Pacers and let them know what you think. If you're new to Fandl,
it's the perfect time to sign up at the Fandl.com and place your first $5 bet and if it wins,
you'll get 200 bucks in bonus bets. So make every moment more with Fandl, the official sports betting partner of the NBA.
All right, Zach. So we are now talking defense and I honestly, I don't have
very many notes about the defensive front yet. I don't think they've been
giving it all gas, no breaks quite yet. I don't and I think it's by the design.
They're not really unleashing that quite yet.
Some guys have gotten pressure.
I've seen a lot to get some pressures like they've had some
some group stuffs on run plays and things like that.
But I don't really think the line's been totally unleashed yet.
So I immediately start to look at the linebackers because that's really been
the biggest opportunity for lower level guys to show what they've got because
Zyra Franklin and Jalen Carlis have not taken a single rep in the spring as they kind of regroup from their their ailments.
And, you know, initially, I think we all assumed I know I did that Shegu Aloubi was going to be the de facto next top linebacker with those guys out.
That's really not been the case.
We've seen a lot of Joe Bochy and Cameron McGrone.
It's been, I believe mostly Bochy at Mike and McGrone
at Will, if I remember correctly.
We've seen some other guys in there as well.
Hunter Roller, when he's come down,
he's playing mostly strong safety now,
but he's also done some dime stuff.
We've seen Liam Anderson occasionally, like some other guys are getting some work as well.
Now I don't want to say Luby is not in competition for that third linebacker spot.
I'm just saying he's been mostly running with the twos.
He's looked good doing it, but those other guys are getting a lot more run than I would
have initially anticipated.
Yeah.
And before we get back to the other guys, you do have in the notes here that
Shagu Aloubi has found his harassment target this off season. If you guys don't know,
the last couple off seasons locked on Colts has been a huge fan of Shagu Aloubi.
We love this dude, even if he just is a special teamer for the team, we just love him in the
off season because who was it last year that was the running back? Was it Evan Hull last year?
Two years ago, it was Evan Hull. was the running back? Was it Evan Hole last year? Two years ago it was Evan Hole.
OK, OK, yes.
Yeah, Evan Hole.
And then last year, I swear he had somebody as well.
It might have been Goodson or someone last year as well.
Like he's just that.
That's what it is.
Continued to be so on Wednesday's practice.
I think it was two plays within the same series.
So they're not live right now, like they're not really hitting. But Goodson caught a screen pass and I think it was just kind of inadvertent,
but Aloubi kind of trapped him.
So he hit him hard, which we expect from Aloubi because the guy is, again,
all gas, no breaks.
That fits him well.
But then again, just a couple plays uh, Goodson comes out, catches a
ball and then a Louie punches it out.
And it's again, kind of a physical play.
And I don't think Goodson really appreciated it much.
And so we didn't have any scuffles that we saw during this whole period, but
they did have to be separated because I think Goodson was tired of being the
target of shake awuy's harassment.
So you will be will fight the whole world is what he's going to do.
I love special teamers like that man.
One of my favorite players on the roster.
But talk about this linebacker depth.
I do like it from a depth perspective.
I just don't.
I'm just nervous with the starters, I guess.
And that's kind of where we've been.
And like in terms of depth, like I think a player like Bocci who's been there, done that, is a really fine backup mic to have. I think a Luby, like we said, is a really fun player, flies around, good addition to have as well. And then Cam McGrone, super athlete, young player that's been marinating in the NFL for a couple years. Like, I think those are good depth guys to have. It's just, I don't love them being the next man up to two guys who are going to miss a lot of the off season.
That's kind of where my fear is. I think you're in the same boat. Obviously, we talked about that quite a bit on this show this off season, but I do like them for what they are.
Like I like McGrone as a developmental guy like Bocce is a high floor, low ceiling guy and a Luby.
We just love forever like will forever love Segu a Luby But it like it's hard to really be like faulting them for the situation at linebacker. Yeah, you know
Yeah, maybe it won't be a situation come the regular season like as long as Carlis and Franklin are healthy
I think it can be fine, but as of right now, it's kind of a situation
But I'm glad that these guys were able to step up a little bit
Yeah, I mean it's pretty evident to me at this point. They're probably not going to make a move at linebacker given that Jermaine Pratt was released and he signed somewhere else for just over $4 million.
I don't think the Colts are super into adding another guy.
So if this is the group they're rolling with, at least they got a ton of reps. Because, again, Franklin and Carlisle didn't take any during the spring.
So, again, I don't love the fact they didn't bring somebody else in there
that might have a more competitive appeal to them.
But, I mean, McGrone, for what I've seen, again,
these guys are getting a lot of reps and they've taken advantage of it.
I don't know what it looks like in the run run game because the run game isn't live right now,
but against the past, it's been pretty good. McGrone has had a couple of big plays.
I mentioned the other day, he stayed with Tyler Warren, tracked the ball well,
caught the interception that was actually on one of the highlights that the Colts just posted
tonight on their social media was McGrone getting an interception. He had another pass breakup.
tonight on their social media was McGrone getting an interception. He had another pass breakup.
Joe Batchy had a pass breakup.
Liam Anderson picked off Anthony Richardson during OTA.
So like these guys are doing pretty well in the in the pass game section of it.
You know, Solomon Deshields, I think, is his name, the rookie UDFA.
I saw him today more get more run with, you know,
the second and third team than I feel like I had previously as well. And he's wearing the
Shaquille 153. So that's always a positive development. But he's another guy to probably
keep an eye out for us this summer in training camp, because it's more physical, the pads will
be on and you'll be able to see how a guy like that can maybe step up. He at least is kind of
a clean slate because he's brand new to the NFL
and he could maybe as a diamond in the rough kind of player.
I mean, some of these guys I think will be okay,
at least special teams players,
but you kind of hope someone really rises up
and like is a consistent playmaker in training camp.
Yeah, for sure.
Now we have one more player to talk about
and then I have one more thing I wanna ask you
before we get out of here, Jake,
but let's talk about Wally's world here.
Justin Wally, the Colts top 100 pick from this past draft.
The big surprise of this past draft by everything you've said on this show,
the last couple of days,
this Colts defensive staff just loves this dude outside inside corner,
whatever it's going to be.
He's going to have a role this year and probably in the future as well.
Yeah, no, that's for sure.
He he's probably been the player who, you know, without prompting
team personnel has mentioned the most.
They just find ways to bring him up.
They love his toughness, competitiveness.
His football IQ is really good because he's played a ton of reps in college as
well as like a what four or five year starter or something like that.
So they really love everything about him.
I've talked to him a couple of times now.
Really smart guy, like really good head on his shoulders.
And he just seems to pretty much get it.
So there's really not a lot to not like there.
But it was kind of refreshing for them to mention he finally had a blemish.
Lou Anarumo yesterday, we were talking to him
and he said there was a really coachable moment
for Wally out there on the field.
And Anarumo stopped things and made an example
of him in front of everybody.
And Anarumo admitted that.
So number one, you love the accountability from
Anarumo, even if it is a rookie. But I think they're so willing to mention that talk about
that and joke about it because it's like they like him so much to where it's like, you know,
this is our really bright son who sometimes we have to make an example out of him.
It very much gave me that vibe.
But no, they're head over heels about Justin Wally.
Again, if there wasn't a guy like Jalen Jones in front of him,
that has been a starter for two years already,
I would say that he would probably start right out of the gate.
But I think Jalen Jones obviously obviously still going to be the leader
in the clubhouse there for now.
And for what it's worth, I do think they want to give Juju Brentz maybe one
last shot at competing for this.
I think him being handed a starting job is gone.
Like, you know, how, how he would get back in the lineup previously from injuries and would reassume his starting duties. I think that's gone. But if they
can find a way to get Justin Wally more snaps, I think they're going to do it. Awesome. Awesome.
And then before we get out of here, I'm going to put this ball on the tee for you, Jake, and you're
just gonna just make some contact is all I'm asking here, Jake. We're setting up a future show is what we're doing Would you say our biggest I guess camp battles going into training camp again in late July early August
Are gonna be the quarterback position battle obviously for the starter the center and then I guess that outside corner spot between Jalen
Jones and Justin Wally are those the big position bowels for starters that you see or you see any other ones in there?
Because I'm not really counting Matt Consolves as a position battle at this
point.
Yeah, probably not.
And as much as I know, you love kickers.
I think that legitimately is an open competition.
I forgot all about that one.
That's a real position Jake.
So yeah.
And so La Tu has been the starting weekside end every day, which I would expect to continue.
But I want to wait and see what it looks like when Samson, have you come comes
back, like how do they work him in?
Okay.
So I, I think they need to keep law too, as that starter right there, like just
give the dude reps and see what you got there.
Um, so I'm waiting to see what that looks like because EBCOM hasn't participated yet.
And then I guess third linebacker.
I mean, they're not going to use more than two linebackers.
But I don't love the fact that their starters aren't there.
Yeah. So what's the linebacker pecking order look like?
Gotcha. Gotcha. Our future show idea, guys.
Biggest camp battles heading in a into training camp mini camp here.
