Hello, everybody. Welcome back into your latest episode of Locked on Colts, probably Locked on Podcast Network.
Today's host is Evan Satter and he's my very special guest today's show.
Ant the Oreo, as you guys know him on Twitter, Ant underscore the Oreo.
He is one of the loyalists of Stick the Football. He's also a big Colts fan as well.
And we've always chatted via private messages on Twitter, Anthony, all the time.
Anthony Smith is his name. He also runs Coast to Coast Scouting, a co-founder over there, lead writer.
If you guys want to go check them out, go at CC Scouting on Twitter. They give you some awesome analysis over there. Anthony,
how are you doing today? Doing pretty well. Yeah, I'm excited to be here. We've been having this in
the works for a little while now, so I can't wait to talk some Colts football. Yeah, absolutely.
We're going to go about 25, 30 minutes, say, for our listeners, talking through not only your
thoughts and off-scene here as your first time on the show. You can give that to our audience here,
but also we're going to have some prop bets at the end of the show today. Go about 10 deep and
have your thoughts and get the mind moving a little bit as far as what could happen with some
rookies, Phillip Burrs himself, a lot of names here on this prop bet list that's going to be a
fun one. So let's dive in. Anthony, your first thoughts on this Colts offseason so far. I know
it's a disappointing end of the season last year, five and two, then you finished seven and nine.
What do you think happened, just going back in the time ball a little bit to the 2019 season,
what do you think happened there over the last few months of the season?
Yeah, I mean, obviously it starts with the quarterback.
You know, I don't hate Jacoby Brissett.
Let me just get that out there right away.
I know Colt Twitter can be a little harsh sometimes.
But, you know, it starts and ends with the quarterback.
And, you know, when you have a guy that's, you know, serviceable,
but you can tell he's not a top tier guy. He struggles to throw the ball
downfield. I think that that just kind of started to pile up along with some injury issues, you
know, TY being hurt, you know, throughout the season and stuff. It's just tough when, you know,
you lose your guy and Andrew Luck, you know, a couple of weeks before the season, and then
you throw in somebody and, you know, like you said, we started off well, five and two,
not a bad start, you know, whatsoever, but it's tough to expect, you know, like you said, we started off well, five and two, not a bad start, you know, whatsoever.
But it's tough to expect, you know, a ton when you're throwing your backup into the fire right away.
Yeah, and that was the big thing here.
I think more and more teams, they got Phil and Jacober, so they kind of knew what to do there.
He stacked the box.
He wasn't going to be you deep much.
And the Colts kind of just, the offense is a little lethargic there.
The defense still as well, once Kenny Moore went down, really went down the twos in December as Jameis Winston, Drew Brees, etc.
All really torched the Colts on the way to a 7-9 disappointing finish to the season here.
But going to the opposite here for a second,
I know trying to replace Andrew Luck is a ginormous task,
maybe an impossible task for this Colts team at this point over the next couple of years
with how good he was entering his prime.
But go and get Phillip Rosen for ANC, Anthony.
Go and get a one-year deal, $25 million. It seems like if all goes well this year, it's going to get philip rosen for anc anthony going to get a one
year deal 25 million dollars it seems like it all goes well this year it's gonna be a two-year deal
kind of just another one-year deal on the stock philip rosen's career in india what do you think
about the move as you thought about more and more since march about going from bursette to rivers
yeah so it's definitely an upgrade um for anybody that's listening that that does follow me you've
probably have seen uh i don't think that this makes us, you know,
a bona fide Super Bowl contender or anything like that.
Like I said, definitely an upgrade.
I'm excited to have Phillip Rivers and his knowledge
and his experience in the locker room.
I think it's going to be, you know, it's tough,
especially with, you know, the question marks about the offseason
and what the offseason is going to look like, you know,
bringing in a new QB.
Of course, he has, you know, bringing in a new QB, of course, yes. You know,
familiarity with a Sirianni and Reich. I was excited, you know,
because it is an upgrade. I don't know if he's going to give us, you know,
what we've seen in the past. He is, I believe 38 years old.
We saw that he didn't look great throughout the season.
So as much as I'm excited, I'm having to be honest with myself.
I'm kind of 50, 50, as far as I'm excited, I'm having to be honest with myself. I'm kind of 50-50 as far as what our chances look like for the season.
But I do definitely think that he's an upgrade over Brissette,
and I'm excited to see the ball finally thrown deep.
Yeah, that's the big thing.
I charted it a few days ago.
Rivers attended 57 completions above 20 yards last year.
Jacoby was at 25.
So you're over-doubling that production as far as aggressiveness goes down the field.
And it's going to be curious to see if Rivers' arm strength does hold up in the dome
and if the offensive line keeps him clean, how he might bounce back to that 2018 form.
Or it's more so like a regression we've constantly seen from this past year
where it was a new low for Rivers, 20 interceptions here.
But what do you think, Anthony, about what the Colts have done
and put in place around Rivers here with the offensive line?
Of course, you can start off with that, but also the playmakers, the running game.
Now it's sort of like,
I feel like San Francisco ask or Tennessee ask where if you feel like
Phil Burris could be a Ryan Sandhill,
Jimmy Garoppolo game manager type at an above average level,
it could work out well.
Yeah, absolutely. Like you said, I mean,
I'm not expecting him to throw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns or
anything crazy like that. We, you know,
we want to start with some smash mouth football,
run the ball with Marlon Mack and now Jonathan Taylor.
I got Naheem Hines catching balls out of the backfield.
I do think that the offensive line is going to make a huge difference.
It's not just Phillip Rivers was getting old.
It's that he was always constantly under pressure and, you know,
his arm is not what it used to be.
So I think having him behind our offensive line,
easily a top three offensive line in the league,
it's going to make a huge difference as far as, you know,
his ability to be accurate and throw the ball
and maybe hopefully cut down on some of those interceptions
that we saw throughout the season last year.
As far as the weapons around him, I mean,
he's stepping into a pretty good situation, I feel like.
I mean, we should have definitely a top-running game,
like I said, with Marlon Mack and Jonathan Taylor toting the rock,
and then finally getting him a big target.
We got Michael Pittman Jr. in the house,
who we've heard him compared to Mike Williams,
who currently plays for the Chargers.
Vincent Jackson used to play for the Chargers.
So I think that Rivers will be fine.
I think that as far as looking at his options in free agency,
I feel like he landed here because it's a really good fit.
And, you know, of course, Frank and Chris Ballard have done a very good job
as far as surrounding him with weapons, I feel.
Yeah, and you also look, the move that happened right before this,
this feels like the Rivers move is eventually going to happen
as Nwai is continuing to build up through the combine.
You get closer to free agency.
It seems like it's all but a done deal on day one of free agency.
But the true stunner that the Colts pulled here,
and I feel like Chris Dyer pulled a rabbit out of his hat here,
getting an all-pro defense tackle on this defense.
How shock-wrenching, I think, when you saw across the screen,
Adam Schechter, Ian Rappaport, whoever it was, tweeted,
blockbuster trade the Colts have acquired,
all-pro defense tackle with the Forest Bounder.
Because my jaw literally dropped when that happened. same here I wasn't expecting that whatsoever I mean
we know how how airtight the front office is for for the Colts but this is something you know when
you're trading for a guy that's in his prime one of the top three defensive tackles in the league
uh you would expect to maybe hear some rumblings or at least that there's some interest between the two parties. So I didn't believe it at first. Honestly, when I when I
first saw that notification come across the screen, I was shocked because we know how much
Chris Ballard, you know, likes his draft picks, but going out and getting an impact guy, we've
needed a stud defensive tackle for some time now. So I was absolutely stoked. But definitely,
definitely just as surprised as you were.
Yeah, of course it was a big price tag.
They paid $20 million annually and it seems like from all indications,
the Colts would have kept that pig.
They'd probably go with a Javon Kinlaw or Derek Brown.
It seems like an easy decision now looking back on as we get further away from that trade, right? Anthony,
as far as Kinlaw or Brown versus Forrest Buckner,
where you really have no development curve, you have an all pro,
you step in with Darius Leonard.
The first time the Colts have had two all-pros in the same defense,
it's Farina and Bob Sanders.
Absolutely.
I mean, yeah, you know, it is a big price to pay.
But like I said, you're getting a guy that's 26 years old.
He's an all-pro, completely fits, you know,
the character that we want in the locker room in Indianapolis.
And so it makes a ton of sense from that standpoint.
And like you said, that's going to make, you know,
Darius Leonard, the maniac, it's going to make him, Bobby Okereke,
Anthony Walker look even better because they're not having to fight through so
much traffic, you know, to get to the ball.
DeForest Buckner is going to take a lot of that attention.
Yeah.
Speaking of that attention and really the impact he's going to have,
I mentioned this throughout the show, ever since that trade happened,
he's got a three level impact on this defense where they should take the leap
from average to above average
or average to elite.
It could be a top-five defense this year.
Buckner really is a true monster in the middle for this cold Tampa 2 defense.
But how do you feel like the impact he's going to have?
And you mentioned the linebackers there, Walker, Okereke, and Leonard.
But the defensive backs, too, we mentioned how at the last part of the year
when Kenny Moore went out, how the pressure, the lack of pressure,
really added more onto that secondary
where they kept getting torched and torched and torched.
But it feels like if you add in Buckner,
even if it's more pressure for him inside,
where he helps benefit guys like Kamoko Torre
or just use on the outside,
this should really help everyone involved in this defense.
Oh, definitely.
Like you said, it's definitely a three-tier impact,
not just on the defensive line, not just the linebackers.
It trickles all the way down throughout the entire defense.
I mean, when he's taking up attention and disrupting in the middle of that line,
like I said, that frees up the linebackers, but it also gives our corners
a little more room to work with.
We haven't had, apart from Kenny, borderline elite.
Like I said, he's probably definitely a top two or three slot corner,
but we haven't really had that elite shut down corner since the one or two seasons we got from Vontae Davis a few years ago.
So when you don't have a shutdown,
a Stephon Gilmore, Jalen Ramsey, or anything like that,
it's really going to help when you're getting impacts
from all three levels of your defense.
And one more moving one here as far as the defense side goes in free agency.
I know Sheldon Day, TJ Carrier, one of the rotational pieces who could contribute in a smaller role.
But Xavier Rhodes, you swapped him in for Pierre Desir.
What do you think about that move?
Because that's still one of the moves that I'm questioning maybe.
But also when you hear Matt Eberflus talk about Xavier Rhodes' size,
his speed, and also playing in a zone scheme instead of a man scheme.
Do you think he's an upgrade over Pierre Desir?
I do, if only because, you know,
I think his play is gonna probably come out to be somewhat similar to Desir. Of course, Desir was a
little bit banged up, and that kind of contributed to his down season last year, but when he was on,
you know, he's a very, very serviceable cornerback, and I think, you know, Rhodes can be that as well.
He is getting up there in age a little bit, has had a couple down seasons, but I think that
the change of pace is going to be nice for him. He gets new scenery and gets to work with a really,
really talented defense. Of course, they had that in Minnesota as well, but it seems like that's
going to be something that's going to kind of rejuvenate him a little bit. I'm not expecting,
you know, an all-pro season or anything like that, but I think his knowledge, his experience,
and his veteran presence should trickle down to the rest of the defensive backs.
But I do think that he's going to be at least a little bit of an upgrade
over Pierre Desir was.
Yeah, I definitely agree with you there.
Maybe it's just a few spots in the rung higher on the ladder.
But I do feel like Xavier Rhodes is going to be just a small upgrade
where Desir got beat a little bit deep this past year
and also in years past.
And I feel like Rhodes, if he does play well in the zone scheme,
he's a really good tackler.
It should be a very smooth transition for Xavier Rhodes
to be coached by Matthew Bruce Lewis and his former defense back coach,
Jonathan Gannon.
But let's hit on the draft for a second before we go on our prop bets, Anthony,
because what a draft that was.
I mean, Michael Pippen Jr. was a guy – let's hit on him for a second,
first off, because you live on the West Coast.
You live in California.
You had the chance to watch MPJ probably more than most Colts fans out there.
What did you notice when you were watching him last year?
And did you think to yourself when you're watching USC,
this guy could be a perfect fit in this offense?
Yeah, he makes a ton of sense.
As far as him as a prospect, he was just outside my top five receivers.
I only put out rankings for defensive backs,
but I did look at a ton of receivers,
and he probably fits in pretty well in that second tier. You have, you have the, the Judy's, the lambs, the Henry rugs,
and then it kind of gets into a pick them at that point. But I think he fits beautifully.
Like I said, it's a, he's a, the type of receiver that Phillip Rivers has had,
um, in the past that is going to work really well. So from that sense, uh, I think it, you know,
or from that, uh, perspective, I think it makes a ton of sense, but just his ability, um, you know, he doesn't have, you know, the crazy speed, I believe he ran a 452.
But just his game overall, when you look at who else we have on the team, T.Y. Hilton,
Paris Campbell, some speedsters, Zach Paschal, reliable possession guy to be able to have a big
red zone threat, you know, at 6'4", 223 pounds. It's going to make a huge difference.
I believe that that seems like that's the type of receiver we try to chase
with Devin Funchess. Of course that didn't work out.
Broke his collarbone week one. But you know,
I think that this is going to be a pick that really is going to pay off
pretty much immediately.
Yeah, I totally agree with you there.
I think he's one of the more NFL ready impact wide receivers and he could be
a player almost like you mentioned,
a Mike Williams, a Vincent Jackson, where he should be a very comfortable target for those right off the bat there.
But what a surprise the next pick was, Anthony.
You go and trade up a few spots from 44 to 41,
and you get Jonathan Taylor, the Wisconsin running back,
back-to-back dope walker award winner.
One of the more high-character guys in the draft, like Michael Pittman Jr.,
was how shocked were you by that pick?
Because I honestly wasn't expecting a running back,
but the more we get away from that draft,
it feels like not only for 2020, but 2021 and beyond.
Jonathan Taylor's a perfect fit in this offense,
behind that offensive line.
Absolutely.
And, you know, like I said,
this is something that we've talked about privately as well.
And I wasn't necessarily expecting a running back
in the first two or three rounds.
But, you know, like I said,
the further we get from the draft,
it's been a few weeks.
You look at it, it makes total sense.
I love Marlon Mack.
So I was a little bit sad, you know, just because I'm such a fan of his.
But Jonathan Taylor makes so much sense running behind this offensive line.
You look at it, they weren't a passing team, Wisconsin.
So you knew that when Jonathan Taylor was in,
odds are he was going to get the
ball and they still couldn't stop him. So running behind, you know, Anthony Costanzo, Quentin Nelson,
you know, Ryan Kelly, all of them, it's going to, it's going to be such a dangerous game that
defensive coordinators are going to have to play because if Phillip Rivers, you know, can get back
to where he was, you have that threat, but Jonathan Taylor can take it to the house
any time he touches the ball.
So I actually love the fit.
Yeah, and especially for 2020, let's talk about that for a second here.
I know Nick Sirianni has mentioned it's more of a one-one punch,
not a one-two punch in the back with him and Jonathan Taylor.
But how do you feel like that's going to work out here
in this upcoming season, Anthony?
Because look around the NFL.
I mean, you have J.K. Dobbins working here in Baltimore.
You have a couple other tandems that I think are really good, but
if all goes well, if John Taylor hits the ground running here, the Colts are going to have one of
the more lethal one-two punches in the NFL as far as running backs go. Absolutely, yeah. I think
that, you know, it's going to be, I think that Marlon Mack is still the guy. I want to make that
clear. I do think that he's, you know, he's not as much of a bell cow as Jonathan Taylor projects to be, but I do think that, you know, he's earned the right to start.
So I do see him getting a ton of carries, but, you know, if Jonathan Taylor gets 10 to 12 touches
a game, you know, there's no saying that, you know, he can't have a very, very successful season,
even if it's not in, you know, a bell cow capacity right away.
Yeah, I think it's gonna be a really fun to watch those two, especially on the offensive line. Like I mentioned at the top of the show, Phillip Rue is going to, I think,
have a lot less pressure on him with these types of pieces around him. But I think we also see on
the draft, really quickly, Julian Blackman, because what an interesting pick that was too,
Anthony, because you go out and get him, and now we know about Malik Hooker as well,
declining his fifth-year option. Very intriguing what the Colts are doing here,
declining Hooker's option. They draft Blackman at 85 overall here. They must feel like Julian Blackman. I know Chris Bowers said in the With
Next Pick series, he sees him as a legitimate free safety in the NFL. What's your thoughts
on Blackman the more you've watched him? Yeah, so he reminds me of a guy that we drafted last year
in Marvell Tell, in that he's very versatile, can play, you know, a couple different positions.
I really do like Blackman. I'm a Stanford fan. So I do see a lot of Pac-12 football.
And he's very, very talented guy. And I think that's why, you know, the coaching staff was so
excited to get him was because he is a ball hawk. He can be, you know, that Malik hooker light,
you know, he's not necessarily going to be the top dog right away,
and he did tear his ACL in December.
So I think that it'll be a little while before we see how he really fits
into this defense.
But I do like to pick a lot.
It makes a ton of sense.
He's a high-character guy.
He, you know, has experience at corner.
He's now playing safety.
And I think we like having, you know, those kind of versatile pieces
on the defense.
So he makes a ton of sense as far as the draft pick.
Last one I had for you as far as the draft,
because we're going to prop that to Anthony.
Jacob Eason, I know you mentioned you watch a lot of Pac-12 football.
Do you see, I know it's very early on,
but do you see any sort of Frances Corbett upside with Jacob Eason?
I know there's no risk as far as rolling the dice in 122 overall for the Colts,
but very intriguing if he does develop behind Rivers
and you learn from break, right?
But what's your thoughts on Eason when you watched him?
Yeah, this was a fascinating process for Jacob Eason
because early on in the draft process, a couple months before the draft starts,
you hear rumblings that he could be somebody that Tampa Bay targets
when they were at 14.
There's no way he slips out of the second round is kind of what we were thinking and I was a little bit lower on Jacob
Eason than most I had him at QB six I believe but that was with the thought that we might take him
in the second round I think taking him in the fourth round is an absolute slam dunk 122 overall
there's absolutely no risk there He's coming into a great situation
where we have Philip Rivers. We kept Jacoby. So even if something happens, he doesn't need to be
pressed into action right away. And pairing him with our creative offensive minds and Sirianni
and Reich, I think is going to be an absolute blessing for him. If we can get him to get in,
absorb everything for a year or two, I think that he definitely has potential
to be our franchise quarterback. Like I said, I wouldn't necessarily hang my hat on it or
place a ton of money on that, but I do think that his qualities and his traits project to NFL
starting caliber. It's just a matter of whether or not he can put it all together.
Yeah, a very intriguing draft for sure. And I know they haven't played a game on the field to Anthony,
but how would you give a letter grade?
Just from how you feel like the Colts offseason played out here.
You go and get Buckner and Rivers.
You had Jonathan Taylor-McCormick Jr. into this offense too.
I feel like it was a slam dunk offseason for Chris Ballard here.
Yeah, absolutely.
If I had to give it a grade, I'd say probably an A- overall.
I wish that we maybe would have targeted
cornerback a little sooner. I know we took Isaiah Rogers in round six in this draft,
and we picked up Xavier Rhodes. I would have liked to see maybe a little bit more emphasis there,
but other than that, I mean, we nailed just about every need we had. We got the big QB.
We got the big wide receiver. We got, you know, safety to
help with that rotation since Clayton Gethers is moving on. And of course, we got our quarterback
and getting to Forrest Buckner especially is absolutely massive for this team. So overall,
if I had to grade the entire offseason, I'd say you're probably looking at an A-. And honestly,
I think that this puts us, you know, when you look at the other offseasons in the AFC South,
I feel like this puts us pretty easily in the driver's seat for the AFC South.
Yeah, I definitely agree with you on the driver's seat there.
I think this Colts team, if all goes well, is a double-digit win team.
10-11 wins, I feel pretty comfortable saying if health provides for this Colts team.
And you see how Houston regressed a little bit this offseason.
Also, Tennessee, I feel like maybe plateaued this past year.
They didn't really do much as far as add more into their system,
but let's dive into these profits, Anthony, because I have 10 here.
Also a bonus one at the end here for the win loss prediction,
but first one on the list here,
because Phillip Burris definitely has INT issues last year,
15 and a half intercepts for Phillip Burris.
I think he cuts it down by at least five. Would you go over or under 15 and a
half?
15 and a half. I feel, let's see.
I would say over just barely barely i think if we if we see something like a 35 touchdown 16 interception or 17 interception season i wouldn't be particularly
surprised um we haven't seen him behind a really good offensive line in quite some time so it's
possible that he cuts it down to you you know, maybe 10 or so,
but I think, I think around 16 or 17 wouldn't be super surprising.
Yeah. I'm going to go slightly under there.
I think just with the offensive line we saw in 2018,
he gets going to dip back down at 15 or 14,
but I definitely could be wrong there.
I think that's a really good number as far as 15 and a half goes.
I feel like Rivers, the gunslinger he has,
he's always going to throw at least one or two.
Again, like we saw with Andrew Luck, he's not afraid to take chances,
but next one on the list here Jonathan Taylor 800 and a half
rushing yards might seem a little high here but I'm also very bullish on Taylor for 2020.
800 and a half I actually am pretty easily gonna gonna smash the over on that I think that like I
said he is gonna get limited carries at least to start the season is what you would expect we've
seen that Marlon Mack has been hurt or banged up at least a start the season is what you would expect we've seen that Marlon
Mack has been hurt or banged up at least a couple times feels like every season and so
800 800 yards I think that with this offensive line and you know with the threats that we have
all over the offense both passing and running I think that Jonathan Taylor should be able to
surpass 800 yards yeah I'm right there with you I'm going to go over as well here.
We'll go to the next one on the list here.
This is a very interesting one,
just based off how they can spread the ball around.
Michael Pittman Jr., seven and a half touchdowns.
I love to use the big buys in the red zone.
Frank Reich does.
They added in Trey Burton as well.
But I feel like seven and a half is a solid number here.
So we go over or under that for MPJ.
I'll take over.
I'll take over on that for Pittman Jr.
I think that he probably comes down
with maybe nine or 10 touchdowns this season. I don't expect the yards total to be super big,
but when you're smashing the ball down defensive lines, throats with Mack and Taylor, and you get
to the red zone, the last thing they're going to want to do is go and try and stop a 6'4 wide
receiver on a fade route. So I think that Pittman will be able to surpass that pretty easily. Right there with you as well,
Anthony. I'm going to go slightly over there with eight touchdowns from Michael Pittman Jr. I think
he's going to be a very good year one wide out for this Colts team. This is another intriguing
one on the list here. Naheem Hines, I know they mentioned Nick Sirianni did in his press conference
last week that they could see him playing a Danny Woodhead-esque role that we saw at Rivers Thrive
with in San Diego when Rick and Sirianni were both there. I think he had 76 and 80 receptions last week that they could see him playing a Danny Woodhead-esque role that we saw Rivers thrive with
in San Diego when Rek and Siriano were both there. I think he had 76 and 80 receptions
and two separate seasons for the Chargers. I'm going with, since there's so much,
so much carries or so much touch to go around this offense with not only the running backs,
but the receivers overall, 60 and a half receptions for Naeem Hines.
Yeah, I'll take the under on that. I think we'll see him come around probably 50 receptions
or so, which it feels disappointing. I love Naheem Hines, and I feel like he is underused,
but like you said, adding Jonathan Taylor, these weapons on offense, both passing the ball and
running, it's going to be tough for me, I feel like, to get him over 50 receptions this season.
Yeah, I am also there with you. I'm going to go slightly under there. They're just probably around high 50s, mixed lessons for Hines,
but too many in mouse to feed right now for this running back position
where I feel comfortable going over on that number.
But the tight ends are next on the list here, Anthony.
Jack Doyle, 550.5 receiving yards.
Look at Jack Doyle's numbers before.
He's more of a low yards, low touchdowns guy.
He does a lot of dirty work here.
But when we saw Jacoby Brissett and New Corvette come in,
he relied on Jack Doyle as a safety blanket.
Do you see Rivers maybe being the safety blanket for Jack Doyle,
so to say, where he can go over 550, 600-plus yards?
I think we see Doyle probably come in right around 500 yards,
so I guess for this I would take the under.
I think that if Trey Burton stays healthy,
he's a really underrated piece in this offense,
and then, of course, they really like Mo Alley-Cock. So I do think that Doyle is going to
play a huge, huge part in this offense. Definitely, you know, with his, you know, superior ability
with run blocking. But as far as receiving, I feel like we might see a little bit of a down year for
Jack. Yeah, that would not surprise me. I'm going to go slightly over here, maybe around close to
600 yards. But like you mentioned, Trey Burton, they seem very, very high on him.
And he could be a player who plays that Eric Ebron role this year.
And speaking of Trey Burton, five and a half touchdowns is my over-under.
That might be a little low here, but just depending on if Michael Pimmett Jr.
goes off in the red zone, you have other pieces around him.
Do you feel like five and a half is a little too low for Trey Burton,
or where would you go on that one?
I would just barely hit the overalls, maybe six or seven touchdowns.
Like I said, it's all about health for him.
If he can stay on the field, I do think that he slides in very well
into that Eric Ebron role.
But with so many mouths to feed, with John Taylor, Marlon Mack,
getting some red zone carries as well,
I think that we see him just barely get over that,
assuming that he plays the entire season.
I'll go slightly over as well here.
I'll go six touchdowns like you said, Anthony,
because I feel like Burton, he's a more –
it's crazy to say, but I think he's a more reliable target than Eric Ebron
just with the drop issues in the past.
But the health permitting, I think Burton can really play a role here.
And Frank Reich mentioned before, he sees Trey Burton as an elite route runner
at a tight end position.
So I think there's going to be a lot of good stuff for Burton
this upcoming year for the Colts,
but this is back to the running back position for a second year,
Anthony, because we've mentioned how bullish we are on Jonathan Taylor.
So do you think Marlon Mack starts over under eight and a half games?
I think he starts the full year.
Let's see.
I'll put over on that.
I mean,
the starting title itself is not necessarily super impactful as, as far as, you know, wins and losses, I mean, the starting title itself is not necessarily super impactful
as far as, you know, wins and losses, I guess.
But I think that he'll probably start at least 12 games, I would say.
You know, they do love him.
You know, Frank Reich said as soon as they selected Jonathan Taylor,
he immediately texted, you know, Marlon Mack and, you know,
wanted to reassure him that he's still part of this offense.
So I think that he does start most of the season.
If we see him get banged up and Jonathan Taylor blows up, that could change.
But I think we'll see him start the majority of the season.
I'll go slightly under here.
I'm just so bullish on Jonathan Taylor to the point where I think he's going to have a monster year.
I feel like they're going to see very quickly on training camp or early in the season
that he can just produce big, gaudy numbers behind this offensive line.
So I'll go slightly under for Marlon Mack maybe around seven eight starts and I feel like
Taylor could take over here down the stretch of the season when we mentioned Marlon Mack sort of
gets nicked and bruised down the stretch of the season so it could be a lot more Jonathan Taylor
in the second half of the season goes for this Colts team but let's go to the defense here close
up these prop bets for us and I appreciate the time as always Anthony DeForest Buckner nine and
a half sacks I know he only had around 10 last year but do you
feel like he could be more of a gaudy sack number guy this year do you think it could be under that
and it benefits the other guys around him yeah I'm gonna I'm gonna go under on that as good as
he is as disruptive as he is with all the other pieces around him I think that that's going to
benefit some of the other guys you know we see Darius Leonard his sack totals you know look
pretty nice when he comes in and rushes rushes. Kenny Moore, those slot blitzes are fantastic. So I think that
although he's going to make a huge difference as far as pressures, I think he'll be just under that
total for sacks. I'll go just over. I'm going to go 10 sacks for Buckner here just because I feel
like the three tech presence with how Chris Bowers said three to me drives this thing. It's going to benefit everyone around, but I feel like Buckner, the types of the film I've seen of Buckner here just because I feel like the three-tech presence with how Chris Bowers said three-tech and he drives this thing, it's going to benefit everyone around.
But I feel like Buckner, the film I've seen of Buckner is just at some point
it's incredible what he can do against some offensive guards.
He can really wreak a lot of havoc against teams in the AFC South.
So I'm going to go slightly over here, but I would not be shocked
if it's slightly under here and other guys that can mention Anthony
benefit around him.
But Darius Leonard, this is an interesting one because this is actually
a lower total than his rookier tackles.
But 116.5 tackles for Darius Leonard,
which I assume will be the NFL next year if that did happen.
I will take the under on that.
And that's no reflection on Darius Leonard.
But I am very, very high on Bobby Okereke.
Like I said, I am a Stanford fan.
So when we drafted him, I was absolutely stoked.
And I think he really shined down the latter stretch of the season.
Of course, we still have Anthony Walker.
I think that he's going to – Darius Leonard is going to see a little bit
slightly deflated totals as far as his stats,
but I think his impact will be there all the same.
Yeah, I agree with you on this one.
I'm going to go slightly under here, but I think his sack totals could be
bigger while his tackle numbers itself go a little lower. Because you mentioned DeForest Buckner. He's going to clean up under here, but I think his sack totals could be bigger while his tackle numbers at Selkow go a little lower
because I mentioned DeForest Buckner.
He's going to clean up
a lot of the garbage
in front of winners
so he could really blitz
the A and B gap
and really thrive
in this blitzing system
as their linebacker.
That's really exotic
in a lot of defensive looks
from Aggie Reclusive Defense.
But the last prop that I had for you
before we go into our win-loss totals
for this year,
Malik Hooker,
I know it's the final year
of his contract here,
but his career high
in interceptions for the Colts so far is only a three. So I said the over-under here at three and a
half interceptions for Malik Hooker. Do you think he gets a career high in INTs this year with
Forrest Buckner now on the defense? I do, yeah. I'm looking for a big season from Malik this year,
and like I said, he's dealt the injury bug, unfortunately, a little bit. He's worked his
way back from the ACL injury, but assuming he's healthy, he's still, for my money,
a top five to seven safety for sure,
at least one of the top young safeties, if anything.
So I do think that, you know, this is going to be, you know,
getting that fifth-year option declined is going to send a little bit of a
message.
You know, there's still a chance, of course, that he comes back,
and I hope he does.
But I think this is really going to light a fire under Malik Hooker,
and I think we see him, you know, assuming he's healthy,
I think we see him go over that total for sure.
I'll go slightly over here.
I'll go four interceptions because I could see a good year for Rocky Sin
coming up or Kenny Moore in the interception department.
Maybe Xavier Rhodes does well for himself here.
But I will go four interceptions slightly over here for Malik Hooker.
And for the prop bets here, that does it for most of this one.
And the last one I had for Anthony from Vegas,
the standpoint I found this is still shocking.
They still have this as the over under wind total eight and a half,
even though they were a seven and 19 last year,
all the injuries they had to create for sets during a quarterback.
I feel like people should smash the over on this one, right?
Eight and a half seems like an easy bet.
Absolutely. Yeah. I remember, you know, when, when the,
those totals came out from Vegas,
I think that was one of the first things I did was message you and complain because I don't understand how they could have us at just 8.5 with all these additions, all the talent that's come in, an upgraded quarterback, like we said. nine wins would be a pretty big disappointment. I expect us to go 10-6.
Like I said, a little bit hesitant on the Phillip Rivers signing still
as far as its ability to make us a Super Bowl contender,
but definitely think that we should be in a good position
to run the division with 10 wins or so.
Yeah, I definitely agree with you there.
I think they're going to run the AFC South this year.
I'm sticking with my bold prediction.
I'm going to go 11-5.
They're going to have at least a two-game lead on the AFC South here,
whether it's Houston or Tennessee, who's going to push 9-7 here.
But the last one I have for you, Anthony,
because this has been a really fun show,
but I wanted to hit on just the Colts overall once more.
As far as how you feel like the offensive win,
how much they closed the gap, not only with the division,
I think we agree on that as far as they should be number one in the AFC South
next year, but do you feel more confident now entering into 2020, 2021,
if the Colts have to go on the road to, let's say, a Baltimore or Kansas City?
The roster Chris Ballard's built around Phillip Rivers
and the overall ecosystem in place in Indianapolis
could go in and shock the world in the playoffs.
Yeah, this is going to be a really interesting season.
With all the uncertainty, I'm glad that we have Frank Reich
and Chris Ballard at the helm because I trust them more than most.
As far as our ability in the AFC as a whole, you know,
I feel like we're, you know, clearly probably in that second tier.
Of course, you still have Baltimore and Kansas City,
the cream of the crop.
We've seen some teams, you know, make some nice strides this year.
I think that we probably fit in as the third or the fourth best team.
I'm not sure, you know, what we're going to get from a team like Pittsburgh.
If Big Ben is back and he's healthy, they're always a tough out.
Denver has really improved.
The Bills look pretty good as well with the uncertainty in the AFC East.
So I think that, if anything, we'll probably slot in as the third or the fourth best team in the AFC.
And I definitely think unless Tennessee just is able to completely, you know,
recreate their magic from last season,
I think that we should be able to win the AFC South
and get a third or fourth seed spot.
Anthony, I appreciate the time.
And hopefully this is the first of many appearances before I really enjoy this one.
