Hello, everyone.
My name is Zach Hickshaw, Resident Film, Nod of Horseshoe Huddled.com,
and the person who brought you that voice crack in the opener to start off this show.
I'm joined, as always, by Jake Arthur, our boots on the ground over at Roundtable Sports.
And because it is a Monday, we're going to give you guys some mock draft Monday mania here.
on the show. And unlike last week where we just kind of went, or I guess a couple weeks ago,
where we went only rounds two and three and then just listed off some day three guys.
We're getting a little bit deeper into draft season. We're starting to know names a little bit more.
So today we're going to do a full seven round mock draft for you guys.
Each of us are going to go through a couple players that we took.
We're going to do in the first segment, rounds two and three, second segment, rounds four and five,
and then close it out with round six and seven.
just at FYI for you Colts fans right now. The Colts currently, currently are projected to have
seven draft picks in this class, one in each of the first, you know, or two, three, four, five, and
six, and then two seventh round picks with comp picks coming in. We'll see if some trades happen
this off season to give them some more draft picks, but that is where we're at. But Jake,
so I don't take up any more time. Let me kick it to you for your picks here in round two and three.
who did you ultimately go with in today's mock draft Monday?
Yeah, I kind of hate myself for this first one, but it's like, I can see the Colts doing it.
So I'm going with a wide receiver with their first pick.
Again, I hate it, but I love this.
I love this player.
So it's Malachi Fields out of Notre Dame with their second round pick.
Now, this obviously all hinges on Michael Pittman, Jr., not being with the team anymore.
I'm not adding him on top of Pittman and Pierce.
That's insane.
I wouldn't do that.
So, yeah, imagine Michael Pittman, Jr. going out the door.
We've talked about this a little bit recently.
Are you comfortable with Alec Pierce and Josh Downs and Ashton Doolin being your main
group of guys?
Like I just, and Tyler Warren, of course, you have to throw him in as well.
But I just feel like they would be missing something big.
And Malachi Fields is a great prospect.
He's a height, weight, speed guy for like six, four, about 220.
That's awesome size.
and I would say he's faster than Michael Pittman Jr. is.
He gives you, you can either say he's like a faster Michael Pittman Jr.
Or, you know, I think his route tree is a little, you know, more expanded than Alke Pierce's was coming in.
But he's maybe not the catch point type of specialist that Alec Pierce was coming out.
But regardless, he is a height, weight speed guy who I think would fit in really well for the Colts and replace Michael Pitman Jr.
pretty seamlessly, eventually.
Receivers take a minute to get acclimated.
But then my next one, this really is for you here.
Darrell Jackson Jr. from Florida State.
Now we're talking a behemoth in the middle,
a nose tackle if there ever was one.
About 6.5, 328 or so would go and slot in behind Grover Stewart.
They've got to get some more insurance behind DeForest Buckerman, Grover Stewart.
You know, I think they need another backup nose and another backup three tech.
You could trust Atomia out of Bore, or you could add Neville Gallimore back into the mix.
That's fine.
But they need some youth there.
And you could have made an argument for them doing it last year or the year before.
As soon as these two studs up front, Buckner and Stewart started turning 30 plus, it was time.
And now, of course, with Buckner's neck injury, can't get caught with your pants down here.
Like, you have to be prepared.
So my first two picks, Malachi Fields replacing Michael Putman Jr.
And Darrell Jackson, Jr. from Florida State, the nose tackle.
Coming in is the next great defensive tackle for the Colts behind Grover Stewart.
Yeah, I like that third round pick.
Darrell Jackson, Jr., I think he was a Shrine Bowl standout, I believe.
I think he was very good.
He came to the senior ball on like the last day of practice, too.
So, yeah, he was a shrine bowl guy first.
Yeah, yeah.
I remember he was like getting a lot of praise for one of the best players there.
I haven't done a lot of work on this wide receiver class yet.
So Malachi Fields, I'm sure a lot of Colts fans in the comments can tell me all about him because he played at Notre Dame.
And obviously, I know there's a lot of overlap with you guys in Notre Dame.
So I'm intrigued by a wide receiver in the top 50.
It would just have to be the right guy for what's the right guy.
Okay, cool.
Yeah.
So Colts fans, leave your comments below about what you think there.
My two picks, though, I stuck with defense.
I didn't go to wide receiver.
I'm looking so hard at defense this offseason.
First up, I took a safety in the second round, Dylan Thineman out of Oregon.
Now, you guys probably know him from his days at Purdue.
We spent two years at Purdue, only 21 years old.
I think former four-star recruit had an outstanding season with Oregon this past season.
And if the Colts were to lose Nick Cross, speaking of potentially replacing players,
I think he would seamlessly just transition to being one of those, like that exact type of role
player for the Colts.
He can play in the box.
He actually logged almost 200 slot snaps last year.
as well. Logged over 200 free safety snaps, over 100 special teams snap. This guy was an iron man
across that Oregon defense played all over the place, not as athletic as Nick Cross because
very few players are that athletic, but very good ball skills makes, I think just has better
feel and instincts and coverage than Cross. It reminds me a lot of like a Cam Curl type of
player, and I think that would be a really interesting add to the Colts and kind of can keep that
that versatility that Nick Cross brought last year while getting cheaper at that position
in a secondary that's so expensive adding another young like cheaper option in there can make a lot
of sense. So Dylan Thineman, if he's there at 47, I'm running that pick in. I think he's a very good
player. It would be a great fit with what Lou Anerimo wants to do. And then I took a linebacker in
round three. And this one, I've seen this linebacker as high as top 50 and as low as like late
late day two. So you could kill me if I took this guy too late here.
But linebacker Deontay Lawson from Alabama. Again, I think Pro Football Focus had him like
90th rated player, but I've seen Bleach Report have him as like a top 40 player.
He's a fun player to watch on film. He's got the hair on fire aspect to his game,
a really good run and chase player, good coverage instincts because you can't play linebacker
at Alabama and not know how to cover on that side of the field. So I think he's got a good
eyes and good feel, but unlike our guy Josiah Trotter that we talked about earlier today on
our prospect spotlights that we released on YouTube and audio, he's not this like elite level run
defender. He's not going to just deconstruct blocks and kill offensive linemen that pull in front
of him. He's more of that run and chase type of mold, but I think he gives you a little bit more
coverage upside than a Franklin or Jermaine Pratt did for the Colts last year. So it can get a little bit
younger, get a little bit faster, get some coverage instincts in a run-and-chasebacker, I think
Deonté Lawson would add that to the Colts. I'm still back and forth on what kind of linebacker
Lou Anirma would want because he did like the bigger linebackers a little bit when he was with
the Bengals. But I think it is kind of like a new age NFL where you've got to have speed, speed,
speed at all times. And I think a player like Lawson with his speed and his instincts is a guy
who could make a team happy. I've seen some comparisons to like, was it Shaq Thompson, I
believe is the linebacker from the Panthers back in the day, back in the day like five years ago.
But, you know, Shaq Thompson, I think that's a good comp for him.
Again, the hair on fire type player that can run down a lot of plays and just attacks downhill
with some good coverage instincts.
So Deontay Lawson, I think, would be a good pick there if he's there in round three.
I like that.
Yeah, Lawson or Thompson was someone I really, really liked coming out his year, I don't know,
10 years ago, just to show my age a little bit.
But, you know, I went for some guys who could contribute a bit early and then become
eventual starters.
And you just, you went for the crowd pleasing home runs.
You went for instant impact, probably starters.
Yeah, I was saying, I need starters.
We're an all in win now season right now, Jake.
And I needed those starters to play tomorrow for the Colts.
Yeah.
I guess my excuse will be, well, what do the Colts do historically?
Do they always land starters right away?
No, they don't.
But no, I love all four of these players here that we pick.
For yours specifically, really like Phenomen.
And yeah, again, that's honestly, even if you bring Nick Cross back, you still have plenty of use for Phean.
I think that would be a bit of a luxury still, but you could plug him in right away and he's a thousand snap player for you, I think.
He's got the instincts and the IQ.
Like, when I watch him, I don't worry about where he's at at all.
Like he seems to understand everything that's in front of him.
And then Lawson, yeah, he's, if you're looking for the huge linebackers,
there's only a couple in this draft.
Like everybody's about 6-2 or under under 235.
Like, if you want a linebacker this year, you're going to have to get a smaller guy.
But Lawson, again, like we discussed on our prospect spotlight so far this week,
the run and chase guys, the running right into the fire and not afraid of anything
and initiating contact rather than being passive.
I love it.
So I'm a fan of those books.
Yeah, no for sure.
And coming up, guys, we're going to dive into day three, round four and five.
Do we stick on defense or do we finally break a little bit on offense?
That'll be up here in just a second.

You could have gifted them a locked on.
day or subscriber thing. That would have been great over there for Valentine's Day. I know Jake did that
with Alex and I did that with my wife. It was exactly what they needed. But Jake, getting back to
mock draft Monday, you went wide receiver with your first pick. You came back around to defense after
that. Are you sticking with defense here on early day three or do we need more wide receivers? Do we need
more tight ends? Do more running back? So where are you going here with day three? No, it's time to
shift focus back to defense full throttle. And I would have probably like in my
my ideal world, you lock up an edge and a linebacker with your first couple picks.
I do go ahead and get my linebacker here.
Harold Perkins out of LSU with my fourth round pick.
So again, you mentioned Josiah Trotter, our prospect spotlight.
Imagine Josiah Trotter just less powerful.
And like, that shows up in every aspect of his game.
Like Perkins does get hung up on blocks and he's slipperier.
Like he's slippery through the trenches when he can find a.
decreased, but like he gets caught up in traffic a little much. And if you get locked on to him,
you could probably take him out a little bit. But that's why he's here in the fourth round.
But like you mentioned with Lawson, too, I've seen him anywhere from top 50 to like available in
round four. So it's, you know, maybe he goes a lot higher. But he, I expect would work out pretty well.
He looks pretty athletic out there on tape. You could do a bit with him. Like he's been productive
blitzing, you know, on the line.
in coverage when things are, you know, sideline to sideline and in front of him, I think he does
well, but he can get into Lala Land a bit when things get behind him. That comes with experience.
So again, this is a guy who can help you with some snaps pretty quickly. But if you're relying on
him to be like a full-time three-down player, I think you probably didn't do enough work in the
offseason at the position in general. But I do.
like him eventually to develop into a really nice player. Again, the athleticism and the mobility.
And I think he does have enough coverage skills to where I think he'll be fine down the road.
And then another guy I liked coming into round five here is Duke, edge defender, Vincent Anthony, Jr.
So this is a big boy. So he gives you some pass rush juice, but I think he's also big enough to really seal off the edge and hold up pretty well here.
So yeah, 6-6-2-60.
So he's bigger and a little heavier than Quitty Pay.
Now, he's not going to be your starter, but like he would be a nice, I think,
rotational piece with JT2M a low-ow.
And he's not someone I'm like plugging in to be like one of the first guys in off the bench
because I think we all are in the camp that the Colts are going to add one, maybe two guys
in free agency to the edge group.
But I love Anthony as a rotational piece.
in the mix with everybody else.
Because if you're trying to keep a constant motor of guys who aren't a liability in any one area,
let's say it's hard to make substitutions during a drive, the offense is really, you know,
kicking it into high gear.
Well, I'm confident in Anthony's ability to defend the run and the pass.
He's not super bendy, but like I think he's got, he's got enough flexibility to leverage the,
I noticed this at the senior bowl.
He leverages the tackles outside shoulder against him quite a bit.
I don't know how to describe this little move that he does,
but he knows what he's doing without being ultimately flexible in the hips.
So adding Perkins and Anthony here to a defensive front seven that definitely needs help.
Yeah, no, Harold Perkins, I think is super interesting because I believe he played some edge early in his career.
Like a bendy edge rusher, got moved to offball linebacker because he's a little bit underweight and undersized.
and having a player like that in this kind of scheme that wants to blitz and be aggressive,
I think would be really, really fun.
Then Vince and Anthony Jr., you know, just keep beefing up the trenches.
I love that there.
After going defense on day two for me, though, I went offense to start day three with my first two picks, actually.
You know, because I feel like, you know, in my scenario here, I couldn't find an edge rusher.
I wanted here on day three, so I just didn't take an edge rusher in this draft.
So I'm like hoping that we just sign like four edge rushers in my mock scenario here.
And it allows the Colts to go offense on day three.
So in my round four pick, I went with wide receiver, Skyler Bell out of Yukon,
just had a massive season over 100 receptions, 1,300 yards and I think 10 touchdowns for
Yukon this past year, a little bit undersized.
But one thing that I think I've noticed a lot with the transition from Frank Reich to Shane Steichen
is Reich like those big, massive, like ball winner receivers.
Stuyken likes the route runners, likes the separators.
Who are the receivers of the Colts have taken,
since Shin Stuyken has taken over?
Josh Downs, A.D. Mitchell, Anthony Gould.
Those are route runners and separators more so than like the big body guys
who win the jump balls.
And that's where Skylar Bell certainly wins.
So he's not the perfect replacement for Michael Pittman Jr.
He's not going to do all the things that Pittman Jr. does well.
But I think it adds another separator to the mix.
that has, you know, 4, maybe high 4-3s if he runs well type of speed.
So I think he'd be a really fun player there.
And then in round 5, offensive tackle, Demetri, Crownover from Texas A&M.
I want to put this out there real quick.
Texan A&M, stop rotating your offensive linemen in and out of the lineup.
It annoys me so much watching film, seeing like the whole lines shift on every single drive.
But Crownover, what's the one thing we know about Chris Ballard when it comes to offensive tackles?
he likes the massive, massive tackles.
I think Berenhardt Ryman's the shortest tackle he's taken in his time with the Colts and
that's 6'4.6 foot 6.
Most tackles are in the 6-7 to 6'8 range, with Jalen Travis being that behemoth he was last
year.
And Crownover kind of reminds me a lot of Travis.
6 foot 8, like 330 pounds, has some pretty good explosiveness to him, super long arms,
36 plus inch arm with his reach just like Travis last season.
And one thing we know about Tony Sprano Jr.
is he knows how to develop these type of players.
Crownover has a lot of work to do to become like a legit,
like rotational guy or a guy who can be a swing tackle.
But with Sprano Jr.
success with Jalen Travis last year,
getting him ready for that final month and how they've had success with other
massive tackles in the past,
I feel good giving this project to Tony Sparado Jr.
So Crownover is not going to be for everyone,
but I think he's the type of tackle that Chris Ballard's going to love
because he just loves these massive offensive
tackles. So just looking at him on paper, you're like, yeah, that's a Colt offensive tackle for sure.
As long as his, like, as long as his character stuff comes out fine, which I'm not saying I know
anything about that, but like as long as though like everything about him off the field fits the
Colts, the player in the background is so Colts. It's crazy because he's also, he came to Texas
A&M as a former tied-in prospect. So he's enormous in every aspect. He didn't used to play offensive
tackle. He's newish to the position. That's got Chris Ballard written all over it.
You know, they've been trying to get these massive late round offensive tackle projects going.
They haven't been able to hit on a ton of them or like be able to acquire as many as they
wanted. But I know especially like last year, that was something they really were trying to get
going. So I really like crown over. He was a senior bowl standout as well. So I like him as
someone who can compete with Blake Freeland right away. And if you want to bring in a veteran to that
mix to compete with those guys as well. That is perfectly fine. But then Skyler Bell, yeah,
it's, I mean, if you lose Pittman, you have to do this by round four. I don't think anyone is
like in love with the idea of adding a receiver when you need so much on defense, but you just
have to. Like Skylar Bell, that's a good, a good example of someone who, productivity in college
is one of the number one things you need to look for to translate to the NFL. I don't
know why that is necessarily. You don't see as many college projects go on to be successful.
But if you have the production at Yukon that Bell did, that usually works out pretty well for
them in the NFL. So I don't know a ton about Bell yet. I mean, you talking about him is
the most extensive stuff. I've heard about him so far. But, you know, the smart wide receiver
people I know, like Brad Kelly, who is one person I asked back in the day. And he said, I want my
receivers to be productive in college, and that usually bodes well for them at the next level.
Yeah, one thing that Ballard would have to get over, though, is I think he transferred away from
Wisconsin to Yukon. Will Ballard ever take a guy who left his beloved Wisconsin? That's going to be
the real question. But coming up, we're going to round out this mock draft Monday with each of our
final three picks in round six and seven, who are the late round gems that are going to be the next

All right, welcome back, everybody.
We are rocking through our mock draft Monday here.
Just to quickly recap for you in rounds two and three,
I went with wide receiver Malachi Fields from Notre Dame.
Zach went with Safety Dillon Theanman from Oregon.
Third round, I went with Florida State defensive tackle, Daryl Jackson, Jr.
And Zach went with linebacker Deontay Lawson.
Round four, I went with LSU linebacker, Harold Perkins,
Zach, Yukon-wide receiver, Skyler Bell.
In round five, I went with Duke Edge, Vincent Anthony, Jr.,
and Zach went with Texas A&M offensive tackle, Demetrius Crownover.
So now we're going to wrap this thing up with round six and seven.
The Colts are projected to get two picks in round seven because one of them is a compensatory selection.
Their sixth round pick is actually supposed to be a compensatory selection as well because they did trade their preexisting one away for Mackay Blackman to the Vikings last year.
So Zach, with all that being said and all those words, go ahead and tell us who you've got with your sixth and your two sevens.
Yeah, so I actually stuck with the SEC here for the entirety of my six, seven rounds.
SEC bias.
I know, my SEC bias here.
I think most of my draft picks for SEC at this point.
But in round six, I went with defensive linemen Zavian Harris out of Ole Miss.
And Jake, what do we know about me when it comes to defensive tackles?
I like them big.
I like the big boys.
Six foot nine, three hundred forty-pound Xavier and Harris.
That's probably too big.
Like that's kind of crazy.
It is a little bit too big and you see it on film and that's why we're talking about him in round six at this point.
But I thought he had a pretty good season as a run defender.
I mean, the flashes are really good on film.
It's just when it comes down to conditioning and it comes down to can he consistently win with leverage in the NFL.
But I want a big boy.
I want the big guys here coming to Indy.
Someone's going to clip that right there.
But I love the defensive tackle.
six foot nine, three hundred thirty pounds. I think he'd be great in Indy. Again, sticking with
SEC, interior offensive lineman Fernando, Fernando, Carmona out of Arkansas, and round seven.
I think some of the physical traits are below average when it comes to him. And I think
when it comes to like one-on-one play, he would really struggle. But I think he's a good
connective offensive line player. And I think he can certainly compete for a depth spot.
Give that competition to a Dalton Tucker in training camp and see who can win as that
rotational interior guy. Or that swing into your guy for the team.
team. And then linebacker Owen Heineke out of Oklahoma. Yes, Oklahoma is SEC. I still have to keep
checking myself on that. Heineke, I believe, was at the senior ball and was very up and down for me.
There was some issues with his, like, ability to feel out run plays and stuff like that. But
what really sells him for me, especially in round seven, is he has a couple hundred special
team snaps in college. I believe he had like 15 special teams tackles over the last three seasons.
And then you also saw some pretty good play, I think, on defense this past year for Oklahoma as well.
So you get a guy who's played, you know, started a whole season at an SEC defense.
A lot of special teams reps that Brian Mason's going to like.
I think that's well worth a shot in round seven.
So my three picks again, Zavian Harris, the behemoth defensive tackle out of Ole Miss.
Fernando Carmona swing into your offensive lineman from Arkansas and linebacker Owen Hineke from Oklahoma.
All right. So, yeah, I like that quite a bit, especially on day three in the final couple rounds. You got to stoke the flames there and just keep adding beef to the middle. However you do it. You just, you have to and hope at least one of those guys pans out. And to your credit, if a guy that is the size of a power forward works out for you at defensive tackle, like sweet, like that that works. And then Carmona, I like that if you're.
it's hard to ever know who's legitimately in competition because they'll say guys are in competition
and then the lead guy never seeds and he snaps to the other.
But I do like the fact, like Carmona, for example, could come in and be like the replacement
for Josh Sills, who's just kind of always survived and been around the roster for the last
couple of years.
So they need someone like that.
And then, Heineke, yeah, if you have trouble diagnosing run versus pass and you're a special
team's guy, well, it's only special teams on that play.
So great.
Love that.
So, all right, I'll kick us off here in round six with mine.
This is all projection.
USC has just the most slenderman linebacker out here.
Eric Gentry is 6-6-21.
Yes, this guy.
Okay, okay, the praying mantis guy.
Yeah, I know exactly who you're talking about.
Very interesting.
I wouldn't really do this before, like, round five, probably.
but he's someone who I think if he tests,
I don't even know if he's going to be at the combine,
but like throughout the pre-draft process at Pro Day
and like workouts and stuff,
if he performs well, with that size and reach,
he's probably going to boost his stock a bit.
But he's just, he's a tweener that you don't know what to do with.
At 6-6, you would think maybe edge,
but 221, you're like, okay, so linebacker.
But it's, he's such a project.
Like, no, you have to, you have to determine where he's
going to play first. Like, is it going to be an edge for you? Then you have to like beef him up a little
bit and you have to like get that good baseline of like edge technique and all that good stuff.
But he's mostly like an off ball linebacker. But that's real big. You know, like that's huge.
But he's got good mobility for that size. Like guys with that size don't usually turn and they're
not very fluid. But I think he moves pretty well. But this is all projection. Like if this guy
works out for you and he can become like a tight end eraser like i don't care if he plays any more than
if his peak is 20 snaps a game that's fine like put him in really tough weird matchups where against
teams where the tight end can stretch it outside or like i don't know like there's just there's scenarios
for this niche type of player if that makes sense uh and then moving on to round seven for me i'm
going back to notre dame uh jeline stroman is my direct replacement for roddy
Thomas the second. You get your third safety. You get your deep guy. He could play special teams as
well. But I was really impressed with him down at the senior bowl with his his coverage abilities,
like man on man one to one in short spaces. Like going out deep on the nine routes and everything,
like it is what it is. Like everyone has their wins and their losses. But when it came time to like
just manning up and guys trying to.
do all those goofy silly senior bowl routes and releases that they run.
He was given none of it.
Stroman was a complete lockdown coverage guy at safety, whether it was tight ends or
running backs.
He did so well.
Even when guys did get a step on him, he was able to kind of stick in their hit pocket
and not give an inch of daylight, harasses the pass as well.
He's got at least one pick six to his resume at Notre Dame.
So the guy gets the ball, he knows what to do with it.
So I liked him quite a bit.
And then I got my own project offensive linemen here.
I got to verify this guy's measurables real quick, because this is another one for you.
So we've got Ohio State's Ethan on Yanwa, 6-7331.
Yeah, baby.
He came to Columbus to start at left tackle and did not win the job, actually.
So that kind of went complete.
And then, but Brandon Thorne has got him listed at the next level as a guard.
So whatever Brandon says, I'm usually pretty on board with because he's forgotten more about O-line play than I'll ever know.
So you've got this basically, who was Mackay, Mackay Beckton, a guy essentially that size playing guard for you.
This kind of goes along the Fernando Carmona thing.
You know, I like Dalton Tucker, but you need someone to push that.
you know, Matt Gonzalez, Quentin Nelson doesn't really miss any time, but Gonzalez, you know, if he misses some time, you want someone who can go in there and probably do a little more than just survive.
And I think a guy with this size and strength, if you're, if the backbone of your offense this year is your run game and like Gonzalez has to miss any time or anything, you plug a guy like this in, you hopefully don't skip much of a beat.
you can keep that power run game going.
And, you know, his development at the collegiate level was a little behind schedule.
But, you know, Tony Sparano Jr., if you're going to trust someone to develop,
we've seen now, like, he could get the most out of these guys.
So if I feel a lot better about handing Spirano Jr., a developmental offensive lineman,
then I do a lot of the other past Colts offensive line coaches.
So that makes me a little more willing to throw him these guys that, you know, these kind of balls of clay to work with.
Yeah.
My only big takeaway with your day three picks here, Jake, is Eric Gentry and Harold Perkins together would be the most intriguing linebacker to what I have ever seen.
I don't know if it would work.
Yeah, I had no clue if it would work, but you probably have two good special teamers regardless.
So I'll take it.
I'll take those shots.
That would be really fun on day three.
