Welcome to yet another mock draft Monday as Jake and I try to navigate the NFL draft without taking an edge rusher in the top 100 picks.
Let's get to it.
You are Locked on Colts, your daily Indianapolis Colts podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome to Locked on Colts.
My name is Zach Hicks.
That's Jake Arthur.
And today's episode is brought to you by Fanduel.
Right now, new customers can bet just $5.
and get $250 in bonus bets if your first bet wins.
Head to Fandle.com to get started.
Today's show, we're diving into yet another mock draft Monday
with, I guess, our final stipulation mock draft of the season, right, Jake?
No rules next week.
Yeah, no rules next week.
The draft is coming up.
But for one last time, we wanted to put a stipulation on our mock draft Monday.
And today, it was no edge rushers in the top 100 picks.
It made it a little bit tougher, for sure.
for Jake and I.
So we're going to go through rounds two through three to start off today's show.
Then we're going to dive into the early parts of day three and then close it out with our final six
picks combined, obviously on day three in round six and seven.
But Jake, let's talk about the money rounds here.
Rounds two and three, no edge rusher allowed.
Where did you go with your second round pick in today's mock draft Monday?
Yeah, this is one I keep having to talk myself out of, but it still just makes a lot of sense for the Colts.
and that's IU Corner DeAngelo Ponds.
So we have talked before about you can't make your roster full of exceptions.
Like Justin Wally last year for the Colts kind of an exception.
He's an undersized guy, what was like, 510, under 200 pounds, but like a scrappy fighter of a corner that like he's just a tryhard and he does everything really well.
And that's an exception.
But then the Colts find themselves right here at 47 for me, staring at another exception.
with DeAngelo Pons, but I just don't think you can ignore the fact that this guy is such
like a supreme player in this draft. If you gave him an extra couple inches or whatever,
I don't think anyone would hesitate whatsoever to take him inside the first round.
There's just everything about him on tape is just lovable, you know, just ferocious,
aggressive against the run in the past, has a short memory.
like he can get beaten one play and just come back and get an interception or a PBU the next.
He is physical despite being 5 foot 9, 180 pounds.
If you want athletic testing, he jumped 43 and a half inches in the vertical and ran 4.3.
He interviews very well.
He's got the confidence that a corner should have.
And there's, God, there's just nothing that you shouldn't like.
Now, should the Colts get a corner this early, blah, blah, blah.
They're trading Kenny Moore or they're going to try to.
He's on the trade block.
And then Justin Wally's going to move into that nickel spot.
Pons does translate best to a nickel by many people's eyes in the next level.
But why?
Why does he have to?
That's never really been his home.
I mean, Justin Wally, that was originally the plan.
But then he was going to be slated to start on the outside.
So I'm just of the persuasion here where you just throw a leap.
players onto your roster and just let the cards fall as they may.
Because I just don't, I don't think there's anything wrong with throwing a player on your
roster here who is probably going to be the best player on the board.
Like size be damned, he's a hell of a football player.
Yeah, no, I completely agree.
I think he's a very good player.
He's a blue chip player.
Maybe not blue chip, but close to a blue chip player in this draft for me.
And I do push back a little bit on the slot corner narrative with him.
I don't think he's a slot corner in the NFL.
I think he's an outside corner.
He's a smaller outside corner,
but we've seen plenty of smaller outside corners in the league,
play some really good football.
And I think he's right up there with those guys.
So, yeah, it's a, you know,
it's not a position of like pure need right there.
But like you said,
with these premium picks take premium players.
And I think DeAngel Pons is a premium player in this draft.
With my pick,
I'm going with a wide receiver,
Jeremy Bernard from Alabama.
And the production profile is not the best when it comes to Bernard, right?
He just had his best career.
season with over 800 yards Alabama where he was like one of the lead targets in that
offense but I think there's just so much to like on film really really good after the catch
wide receiver lined up all over the place from being a Z receiver being in the slot played a
little bit of X but mostly Z in the slot one of the better route runners in this draft one of the
better hands in this draft as well I think only four career drops across five years at the college
level he's not going to win a ton of contested catch situations but for what you want him to
be in indie replacing Michael Pittman Jr.
You know, ideally he doesn't have a lot of contested catches because he's winning with
his route running.
He's winning with free releases off the line with the being the Z wide receiver and being
a guy who's motioning into bunches and getting those free releases.
So I think he fits really well for what the Colts are looking for.
It's what I'm looking for, at least for the Colts.
I don't want this above the rim type of receiver.
I want more of this below the rim separator that can create after the catch.
I think Jeremy Bernard just checks off so many boxes for me.
Tested exceptionally well.
This off season as well,
one of the better three cones that we saw from wide receivers this off season.
So quick, agile, good after the catch, good route runner, reliable hands.
I think pairing that, a guy who can win in the intermediate game on digs and over the middle
with what you have with downs and isolation,
what you have with Pierce on the vertical plane,
I think that's a really good trio to top off your wide receiver room.
So I don't 100% love him at 47, but he is on my short list of guys where I would be fine with taking him at 47 and be pretty good with that.
So Jeremy Bernard, Waterloo from Alabama is my pick here at 47.
Yeah, especially like with receiver specifically at 47.
I'm kind of picky as well.
And he's one of the very few that it seems okay to do.
And, you know, there's been a lot of this course for among the fan base about what receiver do you look for?
someone specifically like a pitman type, someone to replace Alec Pierce, like his role,
since Pierce is going to be taking on a big role.
How about someone who does a little bit of everything in Bernard?
That way, you don't have to be so picky and choosy about it.
I'm going to stick with receiver here.
This is someone like Bernard.
We're mentioning is the first time for as a pick in our mock drafts.
North Dakota State receiver Bryce Lance.
So if you're looking at height, weight, speed, production, experience, he's pretty much
got it all. Six foot three, 200 pounds, ran a four three over a 40 inch vertical over an 11
foot broad. So the dude is very, very explosive. But he's been playing for a very, very long time
to this point, unlike his brother at North Dakota State, has a thousand yards receiving in
consecutive seasons, 25 receiving touchdowns as well. So you get a guy like that who's explosive
vertically, but he's also used to handling a big workload. Like, I don't think he's got the most
broad route tree in the world, but you and I, we've been looking for some big explosive guys
who are capable of turning and, you know, showing good hips versus these guys who are usually
so rigid. And I think Bryce Lance is one of those guys that can certainly show that.
I've talked about Ted Hurst quite a bit. I think he's a little more explosive lances,
but they've got kind of a similar skill set. You know, they could use their big bodies to win
and contested catches or, you know, go up and get it.
And so, yeah, I think Lance is a guy who is kind of newer on my radar,
but certainly he's not, you know, he's securely in that third round range for a reason,
despite being from NDSU.
Like, you got an explosive guy here who's been productive.
So there's not a lot and not to like.
Yeah, he's a projection for sure.
There's still a lot that he's to round out in his game.
But high-weight speed guy, I think he projects fairly well to the NFL,
I'll at least get like a Taekwan Thornton type of impact out of him at the worst.
He was very solid for the Chiefs last year.
So, yeah, I like Bryce Lance.
I think not exactly the type I'm going for, but I could see Chris Ballard falling in love with it.
Yeah, exactly.
With that type, right?
With my third round pick, I went to the defensive line.
I know I couldn't do edge, but I went defensive tackle.
Dominique Orange defensive tackle from Iowa State, big citrus down there at Iowa State.
six foot one,
325 pounds,
extremely explosive,
long arm player,
fantastic run defender,
and make sure that we never have to see
Derek Nadi on the field next season for the Indianapolis Colts.
I think this is a huge win if they took a player like this.
But yeah,
Orange is a player where if you just look at his first two downs on defense,
like he's a top 50 pick all day,
but there's just not really much there when it comes to rushing the pastor overall.
Like he's going to be a two-down run stuffer.
But I would still argue that's extremely valuable
in today's NFL, especially with how many, how much teams are running the ball nowadays.
We always talk on here about the rise of 12 and 13 personnel and six offensive line sets.
I think a player like Orange is a great response to that.
And it helps you get cheaper next season.
I mean, sadly, you would let Grover Stewart walk after the year and have Orange take over
as the starting nose tackle.
So it's a look for the future.
It helps with the rotation in 2026.
And he's just a really fun player to watch on film.
Again, you're not getting much in terms of how.
pass rusher, but getting a high level run defender, I will certainly take that in round three
of this draft in particular. So Dominic Orange is my pick in round three of this mock draft Monday.
But coming up, we're going to transition to the early day three. We're finally allowed to draft
edge rushers. Do we actually take the edge rushers on day three, though?

in rounds two and three, Zach took Alabama receiver Jeremy Bernard and Iowa State
defensive tackle Dominique Orange. I went with IU cornered DeAngelo Pons and North Dakota
state receiver, Bryce Lance.
All right, Zach, so we can finally get edge rushers on the board now,
now that it's round four.
Do you do that?
Where are you going?
No, I'm firmly in the stance of no edge rushers on day three.
So I don't take an edge rusher on day three in this job.
We're going free agent route with edge rusher if we can't take it in the top of
100.
Yeah, at this point.
But there is still another big need on the board, which is linebacker.
And I go to TCU for Caleb alarms or that linebacker had over $130.
tackles last season.
I think he's kind of slept on in this linebacker class.
I know the indie draft guy,
Destin Adams had a top 100 grade on him.
I've seen him projected more in like the round four to round five range in most
draft circles.
Long arm player insanely, insanely explosive, ran a four-four at the combine.
Again, the production was there in terms of the 130 tackles last year,
along with like four sacks and a couple past breakups as well.
The big thing with him is he's a bit stiff.
He's a bit linear.
And you don't get a ton of.
of what you need in coverage from him.
But when we're looking at like a day three linebacker,
he's explosive, he's athletic,
and he just attacks the football relentlessly.
You can use them really well in the blitzing game too.
So I think if you're looking for a role player,
a linebacker that can fill a spot via special teams demon as well,
I think he could be a really good competitive piece to add to this room.
So he's one of the last few linebackers,
like in this class that you can actually get some starting snaps out of.
It's like just a tier of him,
Aidan Fisher, and Kishon,
Elliot, I think, or like the last few, like, starters you can get in this draft.
So I think when you're sitting here in round four, getting one of those players makes the most sense.
And Elam's or I think fits the athletic profile that Chris Ballard likes the most.
Yeah, I think they're going to like him.
And if I remember correctly, there is a level of interest from the Colts in him.
But yeah, the lengthy explosion, again, I do wish he was a little, you know, a little better in coverage.
But again, it's the fourth round.
What are we looking for?
It's a linebacker.
It's hard to find them good in coverage in general.
Yeah, he's productive.
I think at worst here, you get Shagoo Alubi and you get like your top special teamer on kit coverage and stuff like that.
So it's fine.
For me, I'm kind of now, especially if you can't go with one on day two, I really like the idea of doubling up on edge in this draft.
Now, I'm going to, I'll double dip and you'll see what my thinking is on the other one.
But I want, if I'm going to do it, I'm going to get a guy with traits.
and I'm going to get another guy with production.
So my guy with trades is Florida's George Guns Jr.
Not a lot of production to speak of.
He's a transfer from Northern Illinois,
and he was just kind of fine there as well.
There were some injury issues at the end of 2025 with Florida,
but he wasn't like on pace to like pare down their box or anything like that.
So he is quite explosive.
He's honestly, his score,
are closer to like a high-end linebacker, his athletic testing. He's got a pretty good motor.
His arm length is pretty good as well, nearly 34 inches. So you're looking at a guy here who you see
traits, traits, traits, and it's just kind of a ball of clay. And I think a lot of times
defensive line coaches like that because he's not got like a world of experience and bad habits
from before to the point where I can't be corrected at the next level.
And I just think the Colts especially, like Chris Ballard,
will see a guy here who's six for, 245,
kind of that speedball edge rusher, the designated pass rusher that you can get behind
Liatu Latu, I mean, you'd have to work him in with Art and Key here.
But just a long-term third edge rusher here who, you know,
who cares about rundowns, whatever.
But he is finally this explosive guy off the edge.
you're hopeful Kamoko Toure who never gets hurt, essentially.
It's your next chance at it.
So this is my explosive guy.
And later, I'm going to go with production and power.
Jake and I on the opposite ends here.
He says, who cares about run defense?
Me only drafting to run defense so far in this mock draft with Alarms Oar and with
Dominique Orange.
That shows our priorities there.
Going to round five, I go to the interior offensive line and you guys would have
saw him on the prospect spotlight that we posted earlier.
earlier today. Kentucky interior offensive lineman, Jager Burton, one of the better testers of
this entire offseason. Fantastic explosion in 40 time from the interior offensive line spot.
Moved to center this past year, but does have a history of playing guard.
Really good size, 6-4, 300, like 17 pounds, 315 pounds.
So you can either have him as a bigger center or, you know, a typical size guard.
But I love the profile.
I love how he blocks on inside runs like duo and inside zone, get some good.
displacement there.
And I think I just really love that interior offensive line versatility.
You guys notice every time I take an offensive lineman on here, I like that versatility,
that experience playing multiple positions.
So Burton, I think, can come in and compete for a backup spot at either guard role.
I think you can be the backup center.
I think the profile fits exactly what the Colts look for at that position as well.
So Burton is a player that I have circled quite, like, you know, bolded and circled
going on to day three because he just fits.
much of what the Colts like.
Yeah, I don't think replacing Danny Pinter has been talked about quite enough,
but it is, it's a lot more important than what's been mentioned at this point.
So that's a good one.
I like that.
Mine, I'm going to go with linebacker here.
We're going, we're sticking with IU, Aden Fisher, your new Mike linebacker.
So he could probably start for you.
He's not the same player as Caleb alarms or not as explosive, but he's better in coverage.
He's just a heady guy.
He's like an extension of your coordinator.
He's always in the right place.
He's got, you know, you've talked a lot about his instincts and coverage.
He does put himself in the right place, like at all times.
I'm never, like, I'm never blown away by what he's doing.
But, like, he's also just the kind of guy you never have to call out his name because he's just, he's always right there doing the right things.
I think if you're getting him for special teams, I think he could be awesome there.
He's the guy who's going to be a captain for your team, I would definitely say.
not you know i mentioned the explosives he's not really that big either 6-1-232 i saw him in person the other
day and i forgot he was a linebacker uh but you know he's he's like you mentioned the last
group of those mid-round linebackers who could start for you and since ikeem davis gaiter has
you know as his career has developed and he's gotten stronger as a run defender rather than a
coverage guy if the colts are smart they're not going to leave themselves screwed in coverage at line
backer anymore.
If I'll get a guy like Fisher to compliment Akeem Davis Gaither who can perform
in coverage pretty well.
So finally getting your linebacker on the board, there's something that seems not right
with us leaving linebacker and edge just kind of and tatters to the side in this mock.
It's just the way of that has to go, I guess.
But yeah, Fisher is so fascinating.
I did a whole video on my YouTube channel about how much I like him as a player,
but he's going to be a true test of like can you win without good athleticism in the NFL?
Like he's very much an average athlete, probably at best an average athlete.
But mentally it's all there.
I think that he has great eyes and instincts and his own coverage.
I just wish he was a better athlete or at least had longer arms in a bigger frame.
Like it's almost like everything on paper doesn't work with him.
But when you watch the film, it's good film.
Like it's really solid film.
So I think he would be the last.
last of the starting linebackers for me.
Like, he'd probably be like in like that linebacker 13 or 14 range
ish for me. But I can't quit him because of the instincts because of the eyes in zone coverage.
So if you guys want to see me gush about him, go over to my YouTube channel.
I just posted a video very, very high on just the film that it is with him.
But part of the draft process is projection.
And I don't know how well he projects the NFL.
But I think he can be like a mercenary, like low end starter at linebacker in this league.
So I like him.
I like him a good bit.
And round four, round five, I think makes a lot of sense for him.
Coming up, though, Jake and I are going to speed run through the final picks on day three of the draft.
And by speed running, I mean go pretty quick because these are new names and we're still trying to figure out all of our new names for late in the draft.
So we're going to throw some more names at you guys.
Six more names to close out today's show.
The NBA playoffs are finally here where every possession matters, every matchup is magnified, and every game can swing a series.
And right now, Fandul is giving new customers a great way to get in on the action.
Here's what I like about it.
You could bet just five bucks and get 250 back and bonus bets if that wins.
The app makes it super easy to follow the action with player stats, trends, and matchups all in one place.
And during the playoffs, that extra insight really matters when you're looking at stars, role players, and key moments.
It just makes the whole playoff experience more engaging from start to finish.
So head to fandle.com to get started.
Fandle, play your game.
All right, welcome back, everybody.
So the Colts now are gifted to sixth round pick because of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
So with your shiny new six round pick, Zach, what are you going to do with it?
I'm going with safety Cole Wisniewski from Texas Tech, 6-4-220 pounds, one of the better run defenders in the street.
That's a linebacker.
That's not safety side.
Safety, linebacker, it could be whatever, you know, safety at this point.
We need something.
It could be whatever, like whatever you want to put them at.
but 6-4, 220 pounds.
Very, very good run defender and tackler as well.
I think some of the man covered stuff is actually decent
because he's got the length and he's got the size.
But overall, like, he's not going to wow you with his long speed.
He's not going to wow you with his range.
And that's why you're seeing him fall down to round six.
But I think he projects really well as a special teamer at the worst.
Maybe even get him some role on defense as well,
because the tackling is very good.
And I think the run defense is good.
I guess like if you do compare him to one player, like a Sterling,
remember when Sterling Weatherford came through here,
came through Indy a couple years ago.
He does kind of have a similar profile to Sterling Weatherford a little bit.
So maybe that's why I like was New Ski a little bit here.
But yeah, safety lineback,
whatever going to put him at,
a hybrid player or just special teamer.
I think he makes sense here in round six just because of that,
that tackling efficiency,
the physicality and the run defense that he brings.
And what's been the method of my madness in this draft, Jake,
run defense.
guess is the number one thing for me.
So Cole Wyshniewski had a Texas Tech.
And Texas Tech's defense just draft anybody from there.
They were stellar last season.
So I like Wysniewski for what he is.
I think he's worth a day three flyer for sure.
Yeah, this next guy, I'm completing the double up on edge guys.
And you've heard me talk about a little bit about him before.
It is the pride of Greenwood, Indiana, Caden Curry, out of Ohio State.
Now, this is the guy that replaced Jalen to him a lowell at Ohio State in
first on the scene with huge production, 11 sacks and 16 and a half tackles for loss.
He's not the most athletic guy, and there's nothing, like, special that he does on tape.
He's just productive.
I have seen people describe it as, like, I don't know, like, looking at the tape,
I don't know how this production came to be.
Like, it just all fell in place for him.
You look at it, and by the end of the game, he's got, like, two and a half tackles for loss,
three, four pressures, what have you.
So this is your power edge.
This is something they definitely need.
They need more depth here.
He's not going to be starting for you,
but that's why you're going to go out
and you're going to get Chedavian clowning or something.
And then you park Curry here behind him to learn for a year,
rotate a little bit in.
But you need more power ends right now.
Right now you've really only got pass rushers.
Finally, Jake, you're giving me a power end.
Finally, not throwing out run defense with your mock draft tier.
My final two picks, because I'm just going to go back to back
and then I'll throw it over to you, Jake, to close it out.
I'm going with running back, finally a running back in one of these mock drafts.
Chip Trainum, running back from Toledo.
I believe in the comments can correct him from wrong here,
but I believe he transferred up from like Northern Arizona to Ohio State,
had a little bit of run at Ohio State, and then finished his career at Toledo.
So a bit of an older back with a lot of carries, a lot of tread on the tires,
but finished last season with over 1,000 rushing yards,
pretty good blocking grades overall, and he's a good short yard guy.
and you're going to love this, Jake.
5'11, like 230 pounds at running back.
Oh, what a unit.
Hell yeah.
Absolute unit there.
So, you know, we're looking for that power back.
You know, if Taylor is your do-it-all guy,
if Giddens brings a little bit more finesse behind him,
where's that big power back that can pass block a little bit?
I think Traynum can make some sense.
So I don't know if he's going to be drafted or an undrafted free agent,
but I think around this range makes some sense for him.
I'm looking for some bulk at that backup running back.
back spot though and train them. When I saw 5-11, like 225, 230, I got excited. And the film's pretty
solid. He's not going to blow you away with his speed, but some good physicality and some good
running last year at Toledo. And then another new name here at offensive tackle, Riley Malman
from Wisconsin. This is just a bet on the trade. Six foot eight, three hundred five to three
15 pounds, wherever, you know, wherever you're going to see his things there. Almost three thousand
offensive snaps in his college career, all at Wisconsin again. So Chris Ballard,
some way is going to find a way to get this guy on the team the film you know he's the seventh round
he's the seventh round offensive tackle the i'm not going to gas up the film here uh when it comes to
him but you're looking at the traits you're looking at the size you're looking at the athleticism
in the experience in the wisconsin and i think this is a good call that he's probably going to
end up with the colts some way or another so riley maulman just fits the colts archetype at the position
uh there's other guys that have higher but i do
have a draftable grade on him in the Indie Draft Ride. It was like one of the lowest grades in there.
But there was a draftable grade on Riley Mallman. So I figured we'd throw him in here for one of the last ones before the predictive mock.
Okay. I like it. So I kind of thought I would take a safety before this. But alas, here we are.
So at 249, I'm going with Michael Taft from Texas. Now, this guy is just going to be a special team.
team. And this is going to be your personal protector. He's going to get you a dozen special
team stops a year. I don't think I trust him on defense much. He's just a bit undersized and he's
not like the most overwhelming athlete either. He's kind of a Johnny on the spot, though. He's
always been productive. He gets you two, three picks a year, can force him fumbles. So he's a big
time try hard. And those guys who just like, when they lack elite athleticism or size, but they've got
the heart of a tiger and like there's all the effort and motor in the world and they've had
production somewhere in their career I'm good with throwing him out there on special teams as a
he's a big time try hard I love it yeah I mean he is man I mean he's got the heart of a champion
so why you try it so hard man it's just football why you try it so hard unfortunately not everybody
does but that's true no Michael Tav I mean unless we're getting another year of Daniel Scott this is
your new Daniel Scott, I think.
Hopefully healthier than Daniel Scott, but yeah.
Sure, sure, sure, sure, sure.
Yeah.
And then so this next, my last guy here, I've got to go offensive line just for your sake.
Ohio State offensive tackle, Ethan O'Nianwa.
He was a transfer from Rice.
He started on both sides of the line.
So he came to Ohio State to be the new starting left tackle for that kid who went to the
chiefs and did not go well.
So Brandon Thorne projects.
could kick inside as well. And if Brandon Thorne says something about offensive lineman,
I tend to believe it. So this is a huge guy, though, 6-7, 331. So you're looking at,
you're looking at size from the guy who I can't think of anyone's name today.
Akeptych. Chargers from the Kaibectin. Yes, yes. Yeah. So he's got the power, but he's not the
most fleet of foot guy. So if you want to have him as number one, someone you could just
kind of sit and develop with Tony Sparano Jr.
That's great until he's ready.
He kind of screams extra blocker and jumbo packages for me if you're going to find a
role for him right away.
But I mean, I'm just, he's not the greatest prospect, but I'm just here for a different
type of competition for what you've got at swing tackle right now.
Just keep adding offensive linemen every year.
Yeah.
Just have something come out of the wash.
this is different from what they have.
And if it winds up working out pretty well,
because Spirano can spin this under gold, I'm into it.
Yeah, again, I'm firmly in the standpoint.
If you can get eight to nine draft picks in here,
two of them should be on offensive line for sure.
Like, keep stocking the cupboard,
keep getting guys in here and let Tony do his thing.
So even though I'm not huge on Yonba,
I think, you know, the size profile is fine.
He had a good first day at the senior bowl as well.
So I think there's something there.
He played fine at guard.
at the Senior Bowl.
So I think he can be fine.
